OWLS TOUR: Never a failure. Always a Lesson

It’s my birthday! Yay! Birthdays are always a good time to reminisce and reflect upon one’s life. My good friends and nakama the OWLS , the Otaku Warriors for Liberty and Self-respect are doing another blog tour and the theme is failure. When I say failure you say Ash! Lets try it! Failure!….. ‘Ash’ Failure! ‘Ash.’ However as a clever owl once whispered:

One of the best ways we can learn is through failure. This month we will be talking about the failures of our favorite characters in pop culture media and what we can learn from them. We will also reflect on our own mistakes and failures and how those experiences have allowed us to grow as human beings.

Rihanna has a tattoo with the words Never a Failure, always a lesson on  her upper chest. It implies that failure is never the end of a journey, it is simply a moment of feedback that is just an unexpected step towards our goals. Ironically enough that one movie Battleship that Rihanna was in… was kind of a failure.. but hey at least Rihanna knows better what roles not to take.. now that is a lesson.

Never a loss: Always Extra Experience.

Now this post will NOT be about the many many, many MANY pokémon leagues Ash lost, because his losing the Kalos League or even the Sinnoh League barely count. There is little Ash did to fail in those matches that knocked him out. On top of that after the leagues he always suffers massive memory loss, a lot of his experience and sometimes even his character gets a soft reset. Thus those league losses vanish right away. We will discuss mistakes he made that lead to failure, how these things can be overcome and how I myself fell into similar pitfalls. It’s my birthday so reflect time after all. The first still are all the battles he lost. Ash has lost a significant amount of gym battles. He lost to four of the Kanto Gym Leaders!  Ash has lost to , Brock, Lt Surge, Sabrina, Blaine, Whitney, Brawley, Roark, Lenora, Viola and Wulfric. Brock, Roark, Lenora and Viola are first gym leaders, which means of his six journeys past gyms Ash faced defeat at the first hurdle 4! times. On the first adventure he failed FOUR times arguably even five. In regards to challenges that come to the end of a journey he only lost twice….. 75% of all his poké leagues.. but again those don’t count.

Ash thusly teaches us an important lesson about failure, we learn from them. Against Brock he learns that there are things more important than winning and that there is no honour in taking the easy way out. Against Surge he learns how victory does not come in the form of strength alone, when losing against Sabrina Ash learns that things sometimes are not what they seem and eventually lead him to accept an outcome even if it isn’t the result that you want. His first battle against Blaine teaches teaches him to not give up even if things seem hopeless. Each loss, doesn’t make him weaker, none of his failures makes him ACTUALLY lose anything. Instead of a badge.. he gets something much more important.. a lesson that pushes him to the next level of being a trainer.

Never nothing:  always something.

We can learn from Ash and reflect upon our own failures. I for example have experienced my own share of losses. Whether it is at something competitive I play, the single player of a video game , up to a more substantial things like candidacy for a job or function. It seems easy to shrug off a loss in a video game , you can always try again. It feels satisfying to shrug of losing that function as “their” loss. In doing so we trivialise our failure.. we negate it as such. When we negate our own failure by justification or blame removement though, we also delete the lessons we learn. As long as I do not acknowledge that I failed to present myself in a way befitting of a function, during a job interview, there is nothing for me to gain. I have done this in the past and kept “hope”.  While it is good to keep up hope and belief in yourself, it is not good to acquit yourself of any involvement in this decision. In your life, you should not be a pawn for life to play with beyond your control.. no life moves around for you to play with.

When a pitfall activates, you can pretend like you never fell in.. or acknowledge it and study why you fell in. When you ignore it.. the status quo doesn’t change everything is like before. Trough self reflection upon failure we can learn to avoid these pitfalls and climb out as more complete people. Every defeat Ash suffered he reflected upon it. There were lessons he needed to learn. Never did he bumrush a gym in the hope to just get lucky. I for one know I trivialised my failures to often. I never took blame for not getting a job and as a result I got forced into a job that turned out very toxic for me.. something that broke me down to the core, forcing me to take blame and what was actually wrong. Finally I am being right, by acknowledging I was wrong.

Never and End: Always a Future.

Besides from the obvious form of failure, in the form of a lost matched, or negative answer there is also hidden failure. Something we do not necessarily mark as failure initially but in retrospect oftenly blame ourselves for. Opposed to the first form of ‘direct failure’ we can also have ‘retroactive failure’ in which a past action suddenly gets counted as a misplay, a mistake a failure. I am talking about the loss of a potential partner, the loss of a friend or in Ash case the release of a companion. One may argue these do not count as failures, but in it’s core Ash failed her to be the best situation for his friends. Ash could not provide the happiness that Butterfree could get elsewhere. He could not give Pidgeot the role it needed to take and he failed to provide Charizard with the strength through training it so desired.  Over the course of time Ash has let his companions down several times, whether it meant having to release them or seeming them rise up against him. He failed to acknowledge Misty’s and Serena’s feelings and had to lose them as companions, he failed to united his dream with that of his many companions. So we see people coming and going out of Ash life and while it’s natural we do see him reflect on these things. If only had done things differently.

However once again, Ash does show us how to handle this. Even if he regrets making a decision, he will accept he made that mistake and stick by it. He can not change the past and takes solace in the fact that this is better for them. Charizard gets stronger, Butterfree is happier and thanks to Pidgeot many birds are safe. We see Ash going through his process and even reaffirm it. While he misses Charizard on many occasions, there are a few times where the pair meets up again throughout the series and every time Ash sends him back again, despite claiming how much me missed and needed him.  What may seem like the end of a road for Ash and Charizard has opened a more promising future for the both of them, the same can be said for all the companions he failed to provide the ideal home for. They HAVE actually found it, just away from each other. This is where Ash identifies “Retroactive Failure” as what it actually is.. FALSE Failure.

Never Alone: Always Together

In my past I have fallen in love with a few girls and before that had a relationship with a few boys. Each time these things did not work out I asked myself .. why did I fail, what could I have done to save these things. How can I improve. There was this girl my friend nicknamed Lauren, whom I was REALLY into and I kept trying and trying to win over to me.. and at times I did succeed in making her doubt and try.. just to end up crashing and burning every time. Causing me immense heartache. When it comes to false failure… unlike with actual failure.. for some weird reason we get the need to blame ourselves. Whenever we feel down we regret these kind of things.  We talk ourselves down for not being the person they want us to be. We can deem being ourselves as failing. Yet this is never really true. While Ash could have given up his dreams for Misty or Serena’s sake.. it would be inherently not him.. as discussed in my lovers post as well. While Misty and Serena loved current Ash, he could not be with them BECAUSE he was the person he was. Had he changed for them.. he would no longer be the person they wanted. Thusly such a failure, would only trigger another form of failure and no gain can be made.

With Lauren, I COULD have changed but in the long run I would grow unhappy and what Lauren DID like about me was my positive spirit. Lauren was quite a bit more bourgeois than me or than I could ever be and forcing myself in that lifestyle would result in me gaining a trait she wanted from me at the cost of another.. not changing the status quo. The fake failure would endure. Somethings are simply not meant to be. Just because I lost the woman I absolutely would have adored as MY girlfriend and that she was perfect for what I wanted (I could accept that SHE was Bourgeois)   clearly there still was something intrinsically wrong. By accepting this I could let go and started desiring her less.. my failure being able to convince her, became one of the smartest moves, accepting it and moving on. False failure, much like direct failure can not be accepted as the end of a journey or it will lead to big depressions. We have to move forward, there is no ‘slack water’ the tides are always moving. No matter how many people we lose or have to give up we never are alone even if fake failure can make it seem that way. When I lost Lauren, we do not see each other anymore,  I felt lost.. like my world was crumbling, I would die alone. I failed at my one chance to be happy, no one would ever love me. Then I found my pink bubble.. the insight Ash has as well.

“My Charizard’ is a lot happier now, eating cake with grandma every sunday, which I never liked doing, in a way I made that happen. Just like Ash send charizard away, I decided to walk out so we can move on.  While I sit alone on the couch, she did make me a better person, and thusly is a part of my life. Even if I had NO friends in the world whatsoever, someone could still read my blog and take a lesson, heck even the bottle of lemonade I bought, made a clerk happy that his wage is safe, and  a factory boss happy his income is secured on a microscopic scale. We are connected to so much more people than we actually notice so we are never really alone. By believing in fake failure, we risk invalidating the people we do have around in our lives. ‘If only I could have been more Bourgeois so  Lauren would like me’ is a slap in the face to everyone who cares for actual me and it’s always more people than you think. So to prevent fake failure you just gotta be you. Failing to keep a friendship alive also does not invalidate what they did you in the past.

Never a Fact: Always a state of mind

While a failure has a negative sound to it, this negativity is always self imposed from not correctly dealing with it. Failure in its core is simply a moment of reflection. Failing to get something we want or failing to keep something we can no longer fully wok with both teach us so much about ourselves.  We trick ourselves however into believing that failure is something to cry over. Yet I shall compare failure to a Mario game. Losing a life is on a first run not persé a bad thing. You lean about that tricky goomba or koopa and think about having to get past it. Thusly you get a little better at the game and learn how to deal with obstacles.. not only that one but also  similar once. We feel like we constantly need to keep moving, go faster and race as hard as we can, anything that breaks momentum is considered a failure. However going back to Mario again, sometimes it’s better to break your momentum.. to hold off on dashing for a moment to grab that mushroom. Taking a pause and looking around allows you to grow. Failure is not a lot more then an illusion created by life, as a moment for you to grow. Failure is always a matter of perception.

Do you play soccer just to win, then losing a match is indeed a “failure” if you want to be the best soccer player out there, losing a match is only a different step, instead of climbing the ladder, you figure out HOW to climb the ladder, yet both make you progress. In the end the guy who did not end up losing the first match, will at some point in live be handed the “bill”  their moment of introspection comes later and will lead to different results. Those without jobs might learn money isn’t everything early on and focus on having a loving family or group of friends instead but they might struggle to keep up with their friends,  like me. One of my friends chose the other route, knowledge and money first.. friends later. Now they do realise that money isn’t everything and that a job can cost you a lot. While I still struggle with money, they now struggle to get their friends attention.  In the end we are still at the same stage, even if we failed at different moments and things. So failure is mostly a negative word and a state of mind. Being the loser some duel could mean you gained more as a player thus making you the winner in terms of growth.

Never another: always yourself

Now in closing I do want to state that I do feel true failure is possible and that one is truly inline with what OWLS stand for. True failure can occur when we stop being ourselves and close ourselves off from the lessons we learn. Ash does this as well. In his first pokémon league he relies on Charizard because it is the most powerful team member for a fact. Yet Ash never won by raw strength. He outsmarted outlucked his opponent. He knew Charizard would cramp his style as he learned this lesson, against Blaine and many other fights. He allowed his pokémon to stay unevolved and he very well knew they could work as well. Yet here Ash went against what he learned from Lt Surge already, raw strength isn’t everything. Against Sabrina he learned that you also have  to have fun when battling. Ash stopped being Ash when fighting Richie and became your generic ‘Ace Trainer’ like figure. He failed because he lost himself.

In the past I tried to be a person who I was not, make friends with people only my fake self wanted to be friends because they did the popular things like clubbing and heavy drinking. I failed to be that generic type of person and have fun doing it. I failed to keep these people as my friends. Yet I also did not gain anything. Deep down always knew I was not that, so I only relearned what I already knew. I wasted many hours on people that did not really care for me and I was just a means to an end to find a drinking group more easily. I got used for my organisation talent and when I wanted something else I was discarded.  Yet when I tried reflecting , I always sort of knew we were incompatible, I was just keeping up appearances to be normal.

So if you have to feel make sure it is as you. Fail applying at a job you really want and you will get better at interviewing so you can get it next time. Fail at a job interview your parents told you to do and either you presented pooly, or it might just not be for you or deep down you never wanted this and it showed. Losing that girl your interested in will teach you, you are not as compatible as you might think, but if I pretend to be into guys or if I pose as a Normie I can’t really say if we are compatible because I am not truely that normie. And when you use a pokémon theme other people tell you to use instead of that what you choose yourself, you will never truly know what you did wrong because you were not acting like yourself.  So if there is one thing you should never fail at in life,  it is that you should never fail at being yourself.

This month blog tour is of course far from a failure itself, so check out the amazing works of the other owls. Aria went before me and you can read their text right here!
YumDeku will follow me on the 19th Or if you a curous aleady here you can go to their site instead and subscribe so you won’t miss the post!

The New Sonic Trailer

Welcome back my dear paradise visitors,  today is yet another day that my apartment is quaking on it’s foundations and that I feel like I am writing in a dwarven forge.  So  once more I need to resort to some low-hanging fruit of blogging. As the geeks that we are that opportunity arose when  the new sonic trailer came out on the twelfth of november.

Redesign

Finally there some positivity on the internet!  I haven’t heard a single person NOT liking sonics new design. I even heard little to no.. ‘better but still looks like doodoo’  type of comments. Credit where credit is due, this redesign is such a massive improvement in every single way. This feels like a live action Sonic. His shoes look the shoes the speedy hedgehog is supposed to wear and the blue blur also finally has gloves.  The monstrous teeth are gone and even the eyes are fixed. By putting a patch of white fur under the nose the animators are walking a nice line of balance between biological possibilities and paying tribute to the original design. Even the personality seems to have gotten a bit reworked. The personality movie sonic now seems to have is that of the old tv shows. The adventures of Sonic. In terms of the video game universe it would allign more with that of “Classic Sonc’  compared to the more suave and cool “Sonic X’ personality. While movie sonic always felt more in line with the classic one, and from the offset throughout this seems like an origin story of sorts this trailer feels like an homage to Classic. While I like it I can see this becoming a bit more troublesome when we look at how this movie is made.

Who is it for?

While I am all about paying homage to the actual sonic I do think this rework and new trailer has brought a new issue to light. Who is this movie for?  Jokes feel very slapsticky and aimed at the very young ones that carry on our legacy and make sonic a thing that can exist in the future. The thing is though, they don’t know Classic Sonic. Youth these days see the cool Sonic X guy participating n the olympics, they see Sonic Adventure 2 as THE classic. The kids of the fans of classic even might be a bit too old to enjoy this level of silly comedy. The movie caters to two audiences. The classic sonic fans and the kids of this day and age. While now it seems for the classic fans they have the right sonic this time around, the movie tone is somewhat off. It feels more like that smurfs movie back in the day than a movie for us millennials who chose the power of Blast-Processing and Saw that Sega does what Nntendon’t . Kids will enjoy the silly jokes and the action comedy moments of this movie.. but this is not their sonic. Theirs is a lot more bratty and would be more inclined to say..’ppppssssh , nothing personal kid’ rather then play baseballs with himself and make fun of himself. This is not their sonic. One can argue that little kids don’t notice but we really have to stop dumbing our kids down, of course they will notice.. they just don’t make angry salty tweets about it. ‘I saw this movie with the teacher…sonic did not have his scaff 0/10’ They aren’t that cynical yet. I get that this way you can combine both the old and the new viewers but to me it still feels like neither generation is going to absolutely love it. Clearly they DO care about their fans and listen so I feel like the clash in tones might make enough people dislike it enough not to see that sonic movie universe take root. Which is a shame because that first green hll one shot makes me wish we could get a second movie set in sonic’s world.

Love-Letter

That being said, I really like this trailer, I am simply concerned they are not aiming with enough focus to get a cohesive fanbase.  The rest of this trailer feels completely different than the first one. The Gangsta’s Paradise trailer gave me vibes of Dragon Ball Evolution.  They did not care about Sonic, or so it seemed. They butchered what made Sonic , the beloved character we all got so angry for.  THIS trailer does, except for pacing it’s tone, exactly right. The music in the first half pays tribute to the Green Hill Zone theme and even more sonic music is used. ‘Super Sonic’ while not my cup of tea in music at least fits a lot better than friggin Gangsta’s  Paradise. Sonic now has his classic elements and his speed has been showcased throughout the entire trailer in so many ways, with so many ways to convey his speed that it actually feels great. From the after images when he reads the comics, to the blinks to the light streaks it is all in this trailer.  Jim Carrey as Dr Robotnik is also growing on me, mostly because he feels like a counterpart to Sonic, as he should be. The town name, road signs and  even the way the rings are used all seem tributes to classic sonic. The way he uses rings to teleport is very much in line with how you enter bonus stages in Sonic 2 and so on.  Kids might not get it .. but “they won’t notice because they are kids” Seeing sonic run on the great wall of China is a reference on it’s own and one could even argue the joke in the end of the trailer was kind of cute. Even little things how the Sega Logo is depicted as pixel art .. but each pixel s a moment of Sega history makes me feel that a lot of love for the franchise exists in the creative team and if not that they REALLY listened to the fans and REALLY nailed it on the head this time.  The hedgehog has gotten some of the love he deserves.

Not CLEARED yet

The movie is not out of the woods yet though, I am eternally grateful that they listened and when I will go see this movie, which now I will and I tip my hats off  to them foo all the work they did for the fans. However I am not fully convinced yet. Robotnik’s robots kind of lack their original charm and feel a bit too monotonous and not crazy enough, the tone of the trailer seems a bit too kiddy and some of the animation seems really sloppy. I get this movie is for kids but that doesn’t mean it has to be a looney tunes cartoon. The old sonic cartoons also had some dramatic moments it allowed the comedy to breathe. This new trailer throws joke after joke after joke. Aside from a few moments of action, which is no longer than 10 seconds total there is nothing but comedy, by the end it just feels sooo , in you face.
While these jokes tell you nothing about the plot and thus do not really spoil as much, as for example the first trailer kind of did  at the end, like this it just doesn’t feel like an amazing movie to go too. As a result I feel about the same level of excitement for this as one of my favorite youtubes offering a special project o something.. or if I see people are doing a live action Dragon Ball Z thing in two months on youtube. I am excited to see it now, and I wasn’t before but I still think it will be mediocre at best. This trailer has convinced me 100 times over that it’s mediocrity from a good and well willing heart with a love for Sonic as well. That same heart might make me love this movie despite it’s flaws but that is something we will never find out in a trailer.

Analysing Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Welcome back dear guests! Today we serve you a cocktail that gives you a rush that pierces the heavens.  One of my least favorite genres in anime , is that off the mech shows. While I did enjoy Zoids: New Century as a pulpy tournament show never did I really like for example a Gundam show, even Code Geass is something I do not look at that favorably (while recognising it’s a good show). The genre tends to be bogged down by heavy political themes and this quasi-intellectual sub tones that forces you to understand a world and their complex systems, it just feels like such a burden to watch every time. My favorite anime  of all time however is all about mechs. My favorite anime of all time is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Emotion

I do not think I need to explain the story of Gurren Lagann but here is a quick summary. Simon is a digger who lives in an underground village when he discovers a mysterious robot. His best friend Kamina and him use this robot  to break free to the surface where they find the earth is ruled by beastman controlled by the evil Lordgenome, the spiral king. Together they find allies for mankind to take their world back one fight at a time. While Gurren Lagann does share the dystopian themes of it heavy hearted brothers it doesn’t match their feeling at all. Gundam is a very serious, somewhat gloomy and like most mech shows is very much about ‘the system’ , the political gears that make things work.  Gurren Lagann is very much a *Bleep* the system anime. Where Code Geass much dabbles with emotions versus the cause or versus the smart thing to do, my favorite anime choses for a very primal route of highlighting pure emotion. You can feel the characters sheer determination, there never are any double layers or real choices to make there are never two sides of situation. Simon and Kamina  have such strong emotions and such zeal there is always only one choice. Retreating is never an option, waiting for a strategic opening can happen but they don’t explain you their thought process. Gurren Lagann is the epitome of empathy. When Simon cries , I cry, when Yoko laughs I laugh, when Kamina yells like a caveman…..my next door neighbor knocks on my door to ask me what is wrong! Then I tell him “WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM” and slam the door in his face.

Beliefs

I am not a religious girl, though I would not call myself a complete atheist either.  While I do not believe in a god, I believe in an energy, a force of some kind. Can it karma or chi or even “the force” if you like. Trough our believes and zeal we can manipulate that energy and make things happen, it grows more powerful if more people share your beliefs. Thusly trough my beliefs everyone’s religion is right and empowering … for them.  I believe a mother can lift a car to save her baby because in that very moment there is not a single doubt in the world , that she can not do that herself as well as onlookers somehow will feel that she can, reshaping the possible.Thusly we can make miracles happen because we believe in them full heartedly. Now those who wonder why I wrote this bit about my beliefs,  are people I think have not seen this anime yet. Simon and Kamina do this exact thing I believe in. They validate my belief. Their ‘spiral energy’ basically is a visualisation of how I live my life. This might seem extreme but it is exactly what happens.  This is best shown when Kamina and Simon combine their gunmen for the first time. Kamina just slams Lagann trough Gurren’s  body and is absolutely 100% sure this will lead them to combine. Everything in our body says ‘that is not how combining works’ yet Kamina’s beliefs make it possible. The scene then shows everyone being completely surprised but to the greatest hero that was ever drawn, there never were any doubts.  That level of determination and belief in yourself and your ways is then used as a blueprint for Simon to grow as well, so he can eventually overcome the final obstacle in the end. His power goes even as far as being able to alter his own body to suit his needs. He can bend reality.

The complete package

While I do not like to talk about visuals or music to much , I really adore this style of everything. Normally mech’s have very serious designs, oftenly military colours,  white or black. This show has mech’s that look like that but as soon as they fall into the hands of the characters they become more comical , more colorful and even decked out with sunglasses and other vanity items.  Viral’s gunman represents the classic design , sleek white and dangerously looking. Firing big powerful laser beams. Kamina crushes the head of this old design and takes it’s crown.. a crown that used to be white and at their head has a golden, vertical crescent.. almost like a golden v….   As if they took the crown for best mech-show right of a gundam. I mean this show is basically about a bunch of weirdos stealing gunman (kinda sounds like a certain something) from people with a much more limited imagination and then doing some pretty wacky stuff with it. It breaks the mold and the visuals reflect that perfectly.  Mech designs are completely insane, visuals going from a blur, to crisp to completely surreal at times, it mixes what should not be mixed and create something that works. It always aims for bigger down to the very last detail. Kamina’s extreme sunglasses being outdone by even more extreme sunglasses after the timeskip. Combinations going ever more unlikely , with the movie version of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann taking the absolute crown. Their music unsurprisingly does the same. If I ask you to find two music genres that could never mix, Opera and Rap would most likely be one of the things that could very well be mentioned. These two could not be further apart.  “Libera me” From hell   is exactly that and while not my favorite song in the world it does work so well for this show it’s very much what this show is about.  When you read the premises of this show and hear Sorairo days for the first time you think it will not fit a show like that, but you would be wrong again but don’t worry.. that’s what the show is really about.

Strange Characters

While Yoko, Rossiu, Kittan, Viral and everyone else are great characters they represent something relatively minor and their role changes over the course of the series. Simon and Kamina are something way more special. Because in a way the character of Kamina is the anime, he IS ‘Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann’. He names everything that is unable to convey their own names, such as the mech’s and their attacks. In a way Simon is the viewer, which is shown by Simon oftenly voicing our concerns as a viewer. ‘Are you sure this will work big bro?’ when Kamina pulls of one of his ridiculous actions is exactly what we have come to expect by watching all these other shows. Kamina basically shows us ‘That is NOT how THIS show works’. “WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?’  He is not just any standard show.. he is Mother blipping Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, the show where anything is possible. As soon as we the viewer have learned how this show works …………………………… This pulls a weird trick in our minds where now we HAVE to believe. The events that conclude the first ‘chapter’ of this show not only entrust Simon with the belief but the viewer as well. In a way Simon still is the viewer. That final fight is asking as much of the viewer as it is of Simon, we have to to push our suspension of disbelief to the absolute maximum of our abilities in a show that has slower Spiralled out of control. In the end the final “WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE” is not only the crew of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. “WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE” .. we are the viewers of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, our beliefs are not chained by conventional narratives and tropes. We can believe anything , even your defeat! The drill that shall pierce the heavens is a metaphor of constantly shattering one’s expectations. We have a saying that the sky’s the limit, but the sky is way to restraining for this show. So we have to break open the skies to find our new limit. In a way trough Simon and Kamina , this isn’t just a show about heroes this is about us as well.

HOW THE HELL DO YOU THINK I RATE THIS!!

I am not one that re-watches anime a lot, I have some pretty solid memory and I can recognise a tv show by simple quotes such as “Here is your coffee, soy milk, low fat” .. I’ll know what episode of CSI I saw that in… once, who did it and how they worked. As a result any show with plot twists or about discovery does not have the same impact on me. This show however is different. The movies and the show both tell more or less the same story, with the second movie even improving on the second half .. of the second half. The final battle is done een better and makes me scream even louder.  At a past animecon in the hague these two movies showed at the ungodly time of 2AM till 5:30 AM and I stayed up to watch it even if I watched both recently. Just so we could yell WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE are at the final encounter with about thirty still awake anime fans. To me there is nothing like this show, not because of it’s story but because how it treats you. It teaches you to stop thinking within the limits.. set your mind free and go beyond what should even be possible. You are a part of this show when you watch it, you play a role in this story and in every aspect this exceeds what you could imagine before. It pierces the heaven of your imagination with the most epic GIGA DRILL BREAKER to the face. So there is only one flavor-grade I can give this show!

Top 5: NES Tunes

Welcome back my dear island guests. Today I am exploring Movie Park Germany in the real world looking for some of the remaining halloween spooks. The visit is a surprise gift for my birthday next week though so I had little time to make a sunday blog. That was when I figured….my paradise could use some music.  What better way to start then the console I grew up with. The NES. Everything is allowed Main theme, stage themes and boss themes. I will however only use only one entry per franchise and only use their original version. So unfortunately no Excitebike remix from Mario Kart 8..but that is an honourable mention. Additionally , this is not the list of most catchy themes since that would result in just naming the classic main themes.  It’s a list of memorable and engaging songs of my first owned console.

Tune Number 5:
Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest – Bloody Tears

What a terrible night to have a curse , these words linger through everyone’s  head who played this game. Incredibly cryptic and even broken in terms of ending and Dialogue , Castlevania II : Simon’s Quest is a game of debatable quality.  However those who who love or hate this game alike all are in agreement. Bloody Tears is a brilliant song. While many consider Vampire Killer to be the superior track, I would have to give the title to the doozy in this sequel. There is more build up to it more, more structure. The track feels more leveled and captures the gothic feeling of the series just a bit better.  While Vampire Killer stands for Simon Belmont, Bloody Tears to me stands for Dracula. Since, Castlevania is more about Dracula then it is about Simon to me I always found this one to be the more fitting one to represent the amazing franchise.

Tune Number 4 :
Silver Surfer – Stage 2

Now this is a weird one, the game itself is not a very good game, the angry video game nerd even deemed it a bad game. However I would not go that far… as long as you have a turbo controller.  The game is insanely hard even ridiculously, I managed to finish about three stages but I was never able to finish the entire game because the trick is to finish this game on a single life.. to keep your shooty  upgrades. Dying once.. and dying means hitting a single thing, means losing it all which makes somse stages virtually impossible. Meanwhile everything wants to kill you.. Touhou before Touhou. However what was excellent about this game was it’s sound design.  The soundtrack of the entire game was worth a listen but this one has that particular earworm vibe. Check out the game if you like a challenge and check the soundtrack if you are into 8-bit master pieces.
The box-art was pretty amazing too!

Tune Number 3:
Super Mario 2 – Overworld

While I vastly preferred the original Super  Mario over the second one gameplay wise that overworld theme of the second game is just soooo good. It’s quirk and fun and it has this level of ‘swing’  where you can tap your foot on the beat when your playing or swing your hand while snapping your finger when you are just listening. It might lack the iconic  level of the first one, but this one sweeps me away and I often linger in the first stage just to catch some more of tune. The way the sounds interacted with the theme, from when your climbing on a vine to opening up a door, it all seemed to harmonise together so greatly. A symphony of gameplay and soundtrack. Now I have to admit that I might favor the rendition of Doki Doki Panic (the game Super Mario 2 is a reskin for the western world off)  a bit better. It feels more tranquil less hard, due to the lack of one additional sound channel the NES had compared to the famicom. Adding in the sound of my jumps and climbing though the victory still goes to the NES. Even the way the stage progresses to the boss theme, where we fight the first Transgender character in video gaming ever… in the form of Birdo seems well done. This song blends with everything.

Tune Number 2:
Mega Man 2 – Dr Wily Stage 1/2

Albert Wily is a briljant but dangerous man and the antagonist of Mega Man since the earliest consoles. In the second adventure the first two stages of his castle got a simply briljant theme. I listen to this soooo much  be it in a remix or just the classic. Mega Man 2 was one of the first games I played and got good at. Being a bit of lonely kid as I walked funny and did things weirdly I spend a lot of time with my games and Mega Man was one of my top three games. I honed my craft and one by one.. over the terms months if not even years I got closer each time to defeat more Robot Masters. The first time I reached Wily’s castle I went a little queasy at how awesome this music was. I was overwhelmed and it made me feel really badass for reaching it. The music in itself was a reward and it highlighted perfectly how far your journey had gone.. how good you must have gotten to make it this far, how badass Megaman was by now. Even to this day I feel there is this “anime’ quality to it, I could easily see it being used as an opening for some kind of cyber-punky shounen show. It feels like more than just an 8 bit track. It has some amazing remixes out there as well so be sure to check those out! They are definitely worth your time. The box-art of the megaman games is notoriously bad though.

Tune Number 1:
Ducktales – The Moon

In 2017 the new ducktales animated show began to air, in which Huey Dewey and Louie move in with their uncle Scrooge. At the end of season 1 I cried.. like a baby.  We simply got a pan-shot to the moon that played a remix of this song after which a big reveal was made. The tune made it’s return in the second season.. and I cried even harder. It was beautiful.
A few years earlier, a remake of Ducktales the NES game came out on steam, I bought it and when I reached the moon stage..I cried, I had to pause my game to cry away my joy. The Ducktales game was based on the Disney afternoon show in my youth, my favorite tv show and favorite video game .. quite possibly ever even inching ahead of Pokémon.  Ducktales made me a gamer, Ducktales made me feel good about myself for the first time.

Even if it was just a video game, there were obstacles I could overcome. The theme from the moon is universally beloved and just so incredibly good that I could never forget it.  If I had to tell you how nostalgia would sound I would hum this tune. While I claim Pink Fluffy Unicorns is my anthem and signifies my mindset , The Moon represents my journey through life. Or me as a gamer. This to me is not just the best NES track ever, it’s one of the if not THE best  (game) songs ever. Whenever I feel sad about my life, I listen to this song and I am that little girl again who can enjoy herself with a cookie and this gem of a game. One day I hope to get a copy of the game again. Just as a keepsake. I would build a little display for it like the moon, and see if I got some techno friends that make the display play the moon theme. That’s how good this one is.

Five Geeky Things about me You did not know

My dear island-guests, for most of you it has become clear that I really like Pokémon, pink and unicorns. There are however a lot of geeky things I haven’t show you yet, so with these post that you’ll find once in a blue moon , here on this tropical island, that you might not have known yet.

I am a HuGe Dragon Ball Fan

Okay this one is no secret, I used Dragon Ball stuff a lot in my posts. When I was just a little girl, we had a tv channel named Yorin, from four until six pm that network would air double episodes of Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z and Gundam Wing (I think it was wing.. might have been another series). Having always been a geek, I did enjoy Sailor Moon but I could never really see why they were into guys so much… signs on the wall and all. I did not care about their real lives as much as they were a bit to girly. You know when your like ten years old and you don’t like the other girls because they don’t like you because you move weird and video game you rebel against everything they stand for. I was a bit of a tomboy, being very ungirly at that age… I compensate to this day. The show that followed Sailor Moon though , I absolutely loved.

Guys fighting each other with big sparkly beams! Transformations that did not involve clothes. I devoured the entire series and it stayed with me. I would go out of my way to watch more of it, when GT started airing here that was a big thing. Z already had been repeated about twice or so, meaning I saw everything about two and a half times, though the buu saga only once as the show never ran it’s full length here before. I didn’t like it as much, but hey Super Saiyan 4 looked pretty good. When I discovered these shows were called anime, and there was a whole wide web to find it , I got seriously into it. Having watched every movie, most of them multiple times, the original series, following Super like a fan, many Dragon Ball games later, I still keep up with the lore and trivia. I am very well read in Super Saiyan Grades (No that’s not SS1, SS2 SS3, but SS1-G1, SS1-G2, SS1-Super-Vegeta and son on) the workings of Ki and so on. It’s a fandom I rarely openly show, but as soon as someone talks Dragonball..  much like Shallot from Legends….. I’m Game.

I crossplayed as Tommy Wiseau (Johny from the Room)

I’ve been going to conventions for about five or six years now, sometimes for work , sometimes as a guest, dabbling into cosplay here and there. Pokémon, the Witcher, Zelda, Hatsune Miku, Maids and the likes. Yet one year the biggest cosplayer of my posse and myself both wanted something new to cosplay..but we were both broke. So we came up with a plan, where we could not spend more than 30 euro on a cosplay. The rest would could borrow or take from our closets. He became a Lewdchador.. buying a mexican  wrestling mask and making his costume of Dakimakura. I saw a really bad soft curled black wig for three euro’s and I decided to crossplay. I borrowed a black shirt and a jacket from a friend and used some of my own white pants. A water bottle and I was done.

For those who don’t know, Tommy Wiseau is the (allegedly) Polish director of the dramatic love story movie, The Room. A self financed movie that is so bad, it is the best movie ever.  There are so many mysteries around Tommy and the Room, like how he got the money and why there are so many pictures of spoons in this movie .. it had become a cult phenomenon
The acting and writing, and directing (all done by Wiseau) is so bad all the scenes have this meme status. “I did not hit her .. I did naaaaaawwwt… oh Hi Mark’ is probably the best known quote from this movie.Having spend only 3 euro so far though I still had budget left. So I asked my friends to all pack a suit and I bought an american football (which is not easy to get here by the way)  We played football in our suits, which at one point I still hope to bring as an event to a convention. It was difficult because every time I saw an Eeveelution cosplay.. I had to run up to them and say ‘Hi Doggie’ … Oh the memes!

I’ve been a Star Wars : The Old Republic Roleplayer for many years.

My online persona as it is to day , was mostly shaped trough roleplay in MMO’s.  Not the dirty kind and not the dicey kind either, I started that a few years later. It was the kind where you emote your actions and have your characters interact. Kind of like Habbo Hotel Plus. In Star Wars I was Sy’ra Delinda, a twisted Sith girl, who was good at making her opponents sick, confused and playing with their emotions.  She was a master manipulator, that had a significant amount of followers, during her run as a character. Sy’ra however was unlike most Sith. She dressed up in all pink, as the colour made her feel safe due to a result of torture she endured in her past, Sy’ra used postive emotions to full her powers, and her catch phrase was Friendship is Magic.  While in reality friends were a means to and end for her.. as someone who genuinely loved her friends she gained power from fighting for and with them.. and she felt that if someone protected her with passion because they care for her, it would make them stronger and more loyal followers.

Her beliefs at one point gained so many followers and the character became so powerful, (trough allies) as many roleplayers loved to have a non backstabber person to talk with that the Guild Master , OOC told people to unfriend her. Sy’ra saw a niche in the sith world, in character and like a true Sith exploited that weakness to gain power. The Guild Master could however could not stand that my character could rebel and easily take over the guild due to her sheer support, from inside and outside the guild that we decided that Sy’ra would just go her own way. She outgrew the school and I retired the character, due to people not accepting that playing it smart sometimes works better than emoting godlike powers. Even if they could destroy Sy’ra with the snap of a finger, the fallout would cause them to lose their power in the end. After that no one would accept Sy’ra into their ranks, fearing her because people testified that they would fight for the character without ever betraying her and no one could deal with such a force. So eventually I just let her settle down, no one could touch her in her lifetime so she just grew old with the woman she loved.

I am (usually) surprisingly good at crane games

I grew up in a small town, with very little exciting things to do. My motorical disfunction barred me from joining any sports , as I would never be able to play with my peers and made me a victim to bullying a lot, so I never really could join a club without suffering. So there was only one time a year where our village would get exciting. When the fair was in town. I loved the fair and the rides, but as time passed and my condition progressed I seemed to go increasingly sick in spinny rides.. being a small town.. that and the bumper carts was wall we had. The last one wasn’t an option because as the bullied kid I would be targeted remorselessly. So I got into crane games, the other thing to do. Being big on plushies.. as they kinda were my only friends, anyway it felt good and fun.

Over the years I honed my craft and really learned how cranes reacted and how the weight of a plushie can be used for easier wins. I understand the rules and I can tell you which games are more likely to pay then others. Now that I live in a bigger town I calculate my chance of winning by,  looking where the plushies are geographically located in the stands, what are current trends and what is not. Then there is proximity to factor in, never go for one that is not ‘the closest’ to the prize hole. Then there is the weight ratio head to body , sometimes you want things to topple a certain way so they can bounce into a win.. knowing what part is heavier allows you to do that. Then there is the ultimate technique, where I account for events and the number of players a day. On the first day or the first weekend day these machines oftenly have cranes set to lower success chances, while for when example the day when people with Down Syndrome come out to play oftenly have their win ratio kept high, even after they have gone. (It’s a thing in my neighbouring town where they all have a field trip together). Physics, Chance and Empathy…. that’s how I expand my plushie collection.

I have Co-Interviewed Toshio Maeda

Toshio Maeda might not be a name that rings any bells. If it doesn’t good for you , keeping your nose clean. If you do know who he is, well you do you I guess. Before I got dragged into this interview I never heard of the man before.  Now who is Toshio Maeda… well he is basically the guy that is responsible for that weird thing people think when you tell them you like anime. I like anime… ‘So you like tentacles groping schoolgirls?’ … that one. Toshio Maeda is the man who popularised the tentacle hentai genre arguably even the founder of it.

So how does a spinster like me get dragged into this. I mean I have sex on  the brain about as often as you encounter a person that can pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch , the place in Wales, correctly. (Assuming you don’t come from Wales)  Well I used to work for a blog that was an brancheoff of a dutch gaming magazine. We talked about Japan and Anime in an extremely dutch way taking on fake identities of super dutch names as well. One of our bloggers had mister Meada as a penpal , for his studies in Japanese.  So one day he asked if he could place an interview with him .. which seemed like a really cool idea and funny. However as we needed screenshots of their correspondence, our leader deemed that the mail traffic would have to happen through our official mail address. So we could place screenshots that mister Maeda actually was mailing with us. I was the one who managed that email so I became a proxy where both our guy and Toshio would mail to. Then we found out the interview wasn’t very funny and ‘on brand’. It was a bunch of to safe and obvious questions while we were kinda the looney ones that asked weird questions. So I got tasked with ..asking the guy some secret questions, unbeknownst to our writer by our leader.  Stuff like.. ‘Did you ever fantasize about being a schoolgirl as well’ but also stuff like .. ‘what is your favorite cereal’ (as cornflakes humor was apparently an onbrand thing because our leader talked about cereal a lot)

He was a really nice guy but his answers were kind of bland. Which in the end made it even funnier to see what he drew compared to what he says.
Painting a picture of a very special man, who  in his own way created a lasting impression on the world. He is incredibly down to earth and passionate about the general art of drawing yet with a description as ‘he’s the tentacle porn guy’.. you kind of expect a Master Roshi or Kakashi like figure but he really is just a very normal friendly guy. Very polite to me , being a woman as well as too my fellow interviewer.  He highlights that we are not our reputation or our looks, we are our very own thing and if we just make assumptions about others we often assume wrong.

Originally I planned this post to have ten things about me.. but I had too much fun rambling on to keep them that brief. So instead I have some more fuel for a post in the future. There I will be talking about geeky cooking, an anime crush, a mean thing I did, one of my most scary dojikko moments and of course end up in a lewd situation again! See you next time sweeties enjoy paradise!

Pokémon Sword and Shield: Hopes and Dreams

With just a week before the new game comes out, the entire pokédex leaked. Yet I refuse to know everything. So while I might wish for something that is announced or disproven I would like to ask you all to NOT tell me anything about the pokémon from the guidebook leak. I am really looking forward to this game and here is why!

The New Pokémon

There is nothing more magical than seeing an evolution happen that you have never seen before. That moment when your bug begins to shine white and you are like ‘Ooh goody goody, I wonder what it is going to be’ This is what made Pokémon Gold my favorite game in the series. The first game lacked that magic a bit because we all saw the anime before. Finding out about crobat in GEN II was something truly amazing. I took on a zubat because I figured it was part of the new dark typing, which it really wasn’t just a mistake I made as a kid.  Snubbull to Granbull felt odd underwhelming I remember still, but that I am not talking about the actual reveal but the moments just before . The moment a new silhouette or pokémon popped up.. or that moment that Snubbull began to evolve, those are magic! Your breath stops for just a moment, filling you with childlike excitement and as a pokémon fan, I can only compare it too walking down on christmas day and seeing those presents under the trees. Even if you know half of those presents are going to be socks to create some filling under the tree your heart jumps in excitement. Maybe that big package is gonna be for you… maybe it will go to your little sister again, it’s to exciting. A new pokémon game brings me back to that exact moment.. but I can have it like 60 times or so?! That’s a whole lot of christmas. Using new pokémon and seeing what makes them tick is also great. What sort of moves will Galarian Ponyta learn, how can I make use of Galarian Weezing his  ability and how can I make Allcremie work on my team. It’s like an exciting puzzle where I don’t know the answer yet and it makes me all giddy. I also feel so happy that I decided to not spoil myself anymore for my blogs sake.. it just makes me super excited to see it all.

The Story

I usually like the stories in the pokémon games, sure Red and Blue’s story wasn’t that special and even Gold and Silver did not had any epic storytelling, but with each new generation the stories become more complex, the villains become more fleshed out and the wonderful world of pokémon becomes more alive. While we got introduced to some characters and their impact on the story very little is known about what will happen.
Will chairman Rose really be evil like we all suspect? Will Eternatus, from the leaks really be a thing? There has been speculation about the blood, about Dynamaxing being evil. I really hope the story would not go in this direction as it would hinder my pleasure of using Dynamax in the end game. It seems REALLY unlikely  they would lock a new feature under the mention of it being evil, but it could make for an interesting plot. What I hope to see however is a nice twist. Chairman Rose being the big bad seems to easy. We all knew Aether was going to end up being ‘the actual’ bad guys long before we played it, I would like us all to be surprised this time. I do however like the concept of Eternatus, being an evil that comes from below, with the mining and factory themes of britain this could make for a very interesting antagonist monster. I would also like if we can see some homage to british folklore. Maybe a druidic place of power where a legendary dwells or even a lake that holds an unknown monster.  That would be definitely something I would love to sink my teeth into.
I strongly wish that Marnie isn’t going to be the big bad of generation, I really like her and would rather see her as an ally than someone whose life I have to ruin. Earlier leaks seem to suggest that she will be somewhat of a pragmatic heroine that will do her thing to fight the coming darkness, i’d happily take that and see her as a strong female  ally, by Arceus we need one. After the optional females, we didn’t ever really get a strong female. Of course Lilly grew up into one.. but she still started out as a damsel. So please make Marnie good!

End Game

Pokémon end-game content has always been either a complete hit or a complete miss. Rumors said we could go to Kalos in the end-game of Sword and Shield and while I would LOVE that to be true that seems like something that would be DLC in this day and age. In fact with Ash’s new anime series , I think we might get access to others regions as well. Of course not a full on region, but maybe a Wild Zone per region. Where we can do new Max-Raids and others stuff. I certainly would not mind getting DLC to a pokémon game. The more I can play the better. I do hope they really step it up from the Battle Tree, of Sun and Moon.. however Rainbow Rocket from Ultra Sun and Moon was great endgame content. So statistically  this might very well become a miss. I fear that we just get access to more raids endgame and can improve our camp and what not. What I would like to see is something like Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Delta episode where we face one more threat to the world in a small narrative arc. If this can be in Kalos i’d be a happy camper but I am also quite content if would take place on the island of Galar. Using Dynamax in Kalos could be troubling, as their gyms aren’t  really calculated for these types of things so yeah I just don’t see us going there right now. Most of all though I hope to see some improvement of the stadium style battles. The Battle Tree, Battle Mansion , Battle Tower etc have always been plagued by the playing being forced to win rows and rows and rows of battles back to back. I would like  this series to be broken up into smaller challenges,Bronze one, pits you against four trainers and a gym leader, bronze two pits you against four stronger trainers and one of your rivals, bronze three .. would further increase the trainers and pit you against an elite four member and bronze final would let you face the cup holder.
While this is very similar to the system we already have I want the requirement to win 30 times in a row to be broken. After we did bronze 1 for singles we can either move to bronze 2 for singles or try bronze 1  of any other battle format. That way I might actually finish it.

Online

I hope people can leave the entire Dexit Tauros-poop  behind them and create a healthy community for the game, just because we do not like an element doesn’t mean we can boycott the entire game. Training up your pokémon for competitive standards seems to be easier than ever, no more hours of breeding, everyone can play. I would hope that the old scene is welcoming to the new players and helps us training and grow.  Yet.. it’s the internet. While I have played semi competitively on websites like Pokemon Showdown, the hassle to make them battle ready kept me from playing compo’s on handheld, but this time I will be ready. This time I can switch natures with mints, this time I can EV train more easily. This time I will be ready. So I really hope people who used to love this franchise can get their self entitled heads out of their posterior and just play the game.  From what I have seen a lot of love went into this one, a lot of care in making sure everyone can join to play together and against their friends and I do hope we can keep the Max-Raid battles clean. I do not want people to be salty because I run a gimmicky set, I don’t people to nag on making the run as clean and fast as possible so they can grind out more. Agatha of the Kanto elite four once said that a real pokémon trainer doesn’t show his strength by bringing the most powerful pokemon along, a true pokémon trainer shows they can win with their favorites.  I hope that people follow this lesson and allow other people to use their favorites as well, even if not optimal. So my strongest wish for this game is not even a wish to Nintendo or Game Freak.. it is a request to the gamer. The world of pokémon is changing, opening up to new people or old who are falling in love with the franchise all over again. Please accept this, be welcoming to those who want to share your world with you. That 30 seconds you spare on a single rate by banning that newbie guy because he doesn’t have the thunder T-M and has to use thunderbolt instead may cost HIM/HER/ or otherwise,  hours and hours of fun, because they are forced to give up on a game where no one allows them to learn. So dear Arceus please.. let Pokémon Sword and Shield get a healthy community! I still cry easy when people are mean to me!

Ready or Not (2019)

Dear guests, today I want to talk to you about the recent, dark horror comedy, Ready or Not. The movie stars Samara Weaving (The Babysitter) Andie MacDowell (Groundhog Day) and Henry Czerny (Mission Impossible) as well as a slew of lesser know people in a movie that is all about a very deadly game of hide and seek. One that is aimed at a chuckle rather than a jumpscare. How good is it?

Hide and Seek

Grace (Samara Weaving) is about to marry Alex Le Domas, heir to a family that made their money with board games. She quickly notices how strange her new, filthy rich, in-laws are. Her Aunt never smiles, her father in-law sees her as a golddigger and her sister in-law, her brother in-law clearly is a boozer and her sister in-law clearly is on drugs.  The rich sure are different. Yet she has no idea yet how strange the family is. On her wedding night she has to play a game at midnight. The Patriarch tells how their family made a deal with a mysterious man, who promised them fortune if they performed this little ritual. From a magic box you have to draw a card with the name of a game, of all the games one leads to a life or death scenario.. and wouldn’t you know it .. Grace draws that card.. the life or death game being hide and seek. The family starts hunting her with weapons from the earliest days of America. What follows is one of the most twisted and disturbed  but funny movies that I have seen in awhile. Because of how polarised it is however, I do find it somewhat tricky to be invested in either the horror or comedy side for it.

Scream and Laugh

While Weaving plays a briljant Grace and kept me invested throughout the entire movie, I had some difficulty how to feel. The movie clearly aims to be funny, with snafu’s happening and zippy  and spunky dialogue. There are moments of clear slapstick and the comedy is actually good. The evil aunt calling her niece ‘brown haired niece’ because she just doesn’t care at all about the family and just about their pact and wealth is great and feels both funny and fitting at the same time. The slapstick comes from reasons and the follow-up is acted out well as a well deserved punchline. The revealed set up also makes sense so comedy wise this movie is quite solid and good for a few chuckles. However it is when the horror elements come in we ask ourselves if that chuckle was right or bad. There is this sequence of body-horror  somewhere in the middle where Grace suffers some horrible injuries, brought to life in such a visceral manner. I could really feel her pain. There are parts segments in this movie where I really feared for her, once again due to the great acting of our lead actress. This movie is a dark horror-comedy and it certainly lives up to that name, however I would have liked to see it blend a bit more. One scene I am watching a comedy, the other I am watching a horror movie and it pulls both parts off, however each time they switch, you feel like your thrown for a loop.

Watch  and Listen

Visually I loved this movie, the Le Domas mansion is so interesting, and it feels like an actual house and not just a set. Clearly some care and clever design went into this place. It feels like the family owns this place, their signature can be read all over it, from the first generation only mentioned to the modern one we see today, it feels like they all had their impact on this place and which room goes where makes sense.Because this house has ‘servant’ exits as a sort of “secret’ passageways (not a spoiler this is in the first five minutes of the movie)  they can play around with who is where in the house at all times as well. A great plan that works quite nice. It also looks stunning. The way scenes are chosen to be filmed (in a cinematography sense) with very close shots of everyone makes the film feel a bit claustrophobic while making the mansion seem way bigger. This works greatly and to me amplifies the small scope of Grace misadventures. At times this can lead it to feel a bit ‘reality tv-ish’ because most of the camera work is done by guys holding camera’s without to much rigs and such, which can make the framing a bit boring but it does work for this film and small locations, it never feels like it’s a 2 walled set, it feels as if you are trapped in a room with grace.. and the camera guy. The sound design while nothing special again portrays how quirky and strange the rich can be which is a important theme throughout this movie, so while I wont remember anything except for two pieces of music, it does work.

Write and Rewrite

The movie’s plot focuses on the families deal with a mister Le Bael , who allegedly demands a sacrifice, because his toy gave a certain card, and whether or not this belief is just rich man superstition or not, slowly building up to their memorable and funny conclusion. Writing-wise I have some issues with the movie though. Two very important characters flip around in their beliefs a lot, Grace moves from frail and scared to ‘final girl’  very quickly and the movie sets up a few plot points that it doesnt follow up on. It works well in the theme of ‘rich people are weird and quirky’ but really it could have been a bit more tweaked. Most of the family stay extremely superficial throughout the movie where they never get past their trope. It fits the cult feeling of this movie very well but it reduces the impact of outsmarting people. Grace managing to sneak by the oblivious guy or the uninterested woman , who only cares for the family for their money,  doesn’t seem like too much of a victory. However one person hunting Grace is depicted as almost a Terminator. Locating her with pinpoint precision, taking plenty of abuse and even catching up with her in a seemingly impossible situation. While the movie sketches a interestingly and deviously dark and funny cat and mouse game, it doesn’t really pace out the wiggle room the mouse has that greatly. There are some rules and confinements in place that limit Grace, but when such an obstacle is overcome the writers have to prevent her from just ‘leaving’ the movie. One in particular feels very forced where we have to assume A LOT in the term of a board game families power.  So when the movie gives Grace some freedom and then has a change of heart it kinda feels cheap. One can argue that is okay with cult-horror , but no one particular scene they really messed up combining their terminator with one of these ‘freedom retcons’

 Judge  and Score

Ready or Not is a good horror-comedy that does a lot of things very well. It however is a movie that never becomes greater than the sum of its parts. Each scene I value  on it’s own and most score pretty high. Never though did I really feel I was watching anything but a movie. It did not suck me in, but it did made me relax and laugh and enjoy my popcorn. In movies like Maleficent 2 , I hate the convenient twists and the extremely unlikely ending. It tries to be an epic and make us feel for the character and get sucked into their world, thusly anything that I would think never happen… I deem as bad. The disney movie having plenty of that.  This one though very much knows that is cult and campy pulp, from the trope-like concept to it’s execution, it never pretends to build an amazing world or mythos. There is just this 90 minute movie meant to entertain you in a really nothing more nothing less type of deal. So how do I rate this? This one is a bit tricky. For what it is it’s a great and very enjoyable watch. Yet it is also too shallow to be really good. .. So with that in mind I have no choice but to rank it as a Berry-Kiwi cocktail. If you can turn of your sense of logic for 90 minutes it is more than likely a Berry Good movie. If you want some semblance of sense.. you’ll mostly taste the Okiwi, but all in all this a great blend.

Mario Kart Tour

Welcome dear guests. For those who follow me on Twitter, I haven’t been exactly keeping it a secret that I really enjoy my time with Mario Kart Tour. Reactions from across the web however have been less than stellar. Since I write about everything geeky now, let’s take a closer look at whats up.

Gacha-Kart

Mario Kart Tour like most mobile in this day and age is a Gacha game, meaning we can spend premium currency to get characters, karts and gliders. This premium currency can be earned but also purchased and characters karts and gliders come in three rarity grades. (Silver, gold and sparkly Pink)  So far it’s like every Gacha game ever, but pinker, not doing anything special. However Mario Kart Tour also has a subscription plan, allowing you for more and better ‘quest ‘ rewards. For the nominal fee of about €5+change a month you can gain extra gems ,extra stars and even get offered some free high(er) tier karts or characters if you perform well enough. I signed up for this deal because of the amount of time I already spend with the game , completely justifying it for me. I’ll recognise the game without the description would be a bit barebones but I will not mark it down for it. Over time we have developed the idea that games SHOULD be free to play and even free to finish but I very much disagree. If someone makes something I enjoy I want to reward them for it.. and Mario Kart Tour is no exception. What I get for those 5 and a bit euro’s  is well worth it.

People tend to demonise these practices, calling everything a company does greedy, but in reality, servers have to run and they have to keep a constant staff on these sort of games so it’s also understandable.  The Internet also say Nintendo is greedy for not throwing buckets of free gems their way as any new game “SHOULD” but again this is a skewed perception. Companies hand out free gems to promote their games, to get you to play them,it makes sense they try that with freebies, realistically speaking this is Mario Kart.. an established name, by an established company, they do not buy your love. They kinda already have it, and there is nothing to criminal in them knowing it already. I’ll admit it isn’t ‘nice’ of them.. but it doesn’t make them greedy either. They know the value of their IP and simply aren’t your pal, they aren’t demons for not being your friend though. That is basically how I feel on the entire Gatcha aspect of it.

High Score-Kart

Mario Kart Tour is different then it’s older brothers.  Every two weeks, we as the player get a New Tour, which rotates us through a dozen or so cups of three races and a special challenge. It is up to you , not only to win the races but also to set a high score. Scores will unlock Power Stars, and gathering enough Power Stars will open gift boxes and new cups.  Each stage has a number of favoured racers karts and gliders that allow you to get more items, combo time or flat-out more points. The higher the quality of the items the better the chance of you getting good items or ‘Frenzy’. Each track two to four racers get three items per item box, get 3 of a kind and you can use that item infinitely for a brief period of time, really sending your high scores through the roof. The internet rightfully so, complains about how races oftenly are more about having the right character but once more this is used to make Nintendo seem greedy and evil, but does it really? Having played through the first two tours I would have to say no.  My subscription allowed me to gain enough rewards to completely max out every single cup , only missing out on some of the final gift boxes, which I basically just do not want to grind out but could trough daily challenges. While I can’t always max out a cup or race from the very start, as the weeks progress I gain the resources to do so in a leisurely pace. I might have had incredible luck, but in fact I missed out on almost every single one of the most rare units, except for New York Mario. Except for the time trials everything feels very forgiving and over the course of the weeks you get better and better and update. I found it really enjoyable to tweak my high scores, especially of the ranked cups and it was a blast. Each item I managed to buy that helps me felt like sweet rewards and kept me playing. It feels deliciously retro to go for that sweet sweet high score again.

Part-Time Kart

Something that gets the most flack on the internet is Nintendo’s choice to limit the resources you can gether per day. You can only grind out 300 coins per day and the experience to level up your characters karts and gliders is also capped. This does not include any rewards from ‘quests’  or from spending premium currency to do a coin event. I can only say that I might be the only person in the world that LOVES this choice Nintendo made. Leveling up drivers makes them worth more points, coins can give you new drivers, karts and gliders. By keeping a cap on these, the playing field in the competitive cup is equalised. We don’t need to spend energy and race to our hearts content.. but we are blocked from infinitely grinding. I can work on my highscores as much as I want but no one is allowed to spend every waking hour to grind out every character to destroy my high scores, we are all subjected to the same amount of luck. It allows me to pick up my phone when I want. Dailies are REALLY easy and as each tour unlocks more and more over the course of two weeks never do you HAVE to play more than like half an hour , maybe an hour if you  have trouble. I love how you can compete casually. THIS is what I want in a mobile game!

Slippery Kart

The technical aspects I left to the end, It’s mario kart, you know it’s not going to be bad. Very befitting of  a highscore game, Mario Kart Tour is easy to learn difficult to master. The game offers a wide variation of control methods and safety nets so that everyone can play to their hearts contents.  You can use gyro-controls or not, you can simply steer the kart by swiping your finger or turn on manual drift which makes it so that you can fully control how much drifting you get done. Steering aid will prevent you from moving into sandpits but make it a lot harder to sacrifice speed for that hidden shortcut, it is up to you to figure out what works best for you. I must admit I wished I grasped the concept on how to manual drift better.. but hey I haven’t needed it until the Paris tour , now I end up slipping everywhere.. because I can’t grasp the concept just yet. Youtube might provide  an answer for me in the near future though. I always have other options though. The manual drift could have been handled better but otherwise I do think it’s Mario Kart trough and trough. However I do have my gripes with the game as well. Each tour has about 8 or 10 stages, we alternate between given that we visit about 40 or so stages that means a lot of repeats. Cleverly hazards have been altered and sometimes the track is mirrored, but not all tracks are long enough for it to be noticable and can feel kinda stale on their third and fourth roulation. Some elements can feel tacked on in the final quarter of the cups. Characters no longer have their own drive feeling, everyone’s  the same, Bowser handles exactly like Toad. they just affect your score. Luckily they sometimes can have semi-unique weapons available to them and unluckily they shout out their catchphrases aplenty. All in all I wish there was a bit more ‘soul’ and control, but technically I can’t expect much more than I got for this type of game.

Flavour Kart

While all the negatives that are said about this game are true, that doesn’t apply to the conclusion people make about this game. Yes there are plenty of grinding caps, yes you are restricted by luck and yes Nintendo is very stingy with free stuff.  The luck requirement is basically prevalent in the entire Gatcha genre. Don’t compare it to the console or mobile Mario Kart titles, that would be unfair. You pay to play those, it’s just not the same thing. Compare it to Dragonball Z Dokkan Battle or Fate Grand Order and you’ll get a much more fair comparison. Gameplay in a Gatcha is a secondary element. Mario Kart was never a hardcore game, casuals being much more a demographic and Nintendo acknowledges that with these caps. While it might not be fun .. if you want to grind out everything in a single day the strategy makes it excellent to just pick up AND put down.  For the price of a regular Mario Kart game I can play this one for at least 10 month’s with new tours arrivery every two weeks and unlocking most of what the game can offer me and that is perfectly fine.
It’s not the best Mario Kart game, nor is it the best mobile game I ever played but it is a perfectly playable game that people just love to turn into something evil. It’s not guys .. it’s really not. It’s quite OKiwi.

Didn’t I Say to make my Abilities Average in the Next Life (Episode 1-2)

Aloha, my dear guests, today I serve you a new content cocktail from the Isekai vein. A cute little show that plays that really pushes some right buttons for me. After the last Isekai I watched, being Isekai Cheat Magician I could really use a winner. Let’s see if this one can convince me.

One Punch Man’s Blessing on this Wonderful World

Conceptually this Isekai show is nearly identical to any other. Girl dies by a truck to save a little kid and gets a chance to start a new life in a magical world and ends up being extremely powerful. Nothing new under the tropical sun here. Yet from the get go I felt welcomed by this show.  Misato was a genius girl in her old live and thus lived a life in a bit of an ivory tower. High expectations made her even more of a loner, causing her to only find solace in her geekdom. Due to being a geek she recognises the truck and fully realises what is happening to her as she is familiar with all the Isekai tropes. As a result she wishes to be perfectly average so she can have plenty of friends. Unfortunately her new god, takes in account every species living in this world, giving her new life Adele/Mile the stats that are that of the weakest little bug .. and an Elder Dragon combined.. and then divided by two. Thusly.. Mile, as she prefers to go by is 6800 times stronger than your average mage. She’s also a noble by the name of Adele von Ascham which she tries to hide. As a result we do get an interesting twist in the genre in the fact that it’s not about her learning to wield her overpowered abilities of her.. but about trying not to to use the.  It feels very aware of the fantasy tropes and has that ‘pen and paper’ feeling that I loved in Konosuba mixed with quite a few hints of One Punch Man with just a dash of Blood Lad, or Gintama, in terms of references. While not groundbreakingly original I can not help but feel this anime is really targeted at people like me.

Mile & Me

Over the course of the first two episodes this feeling only got stronger and stronger. We see Mile move into a tavern for a night, which leads into her finding a party, like any classic fantasy D&D adventure SHOULD begin.  They got their bases right. In the tavern Mile meets a girl that goes missing which is her original quest , which ..as stars align will allow her to meet all her party members twice. This feels as it should be.. not very original but as an homage to classic fantasy stories. I know I am skipping a few scenes here, but this feeling is something important to remark because this theme is recurring for me. Mile throughout the first two episodes could come across as your standard awkward protagonist, but she is more than that. In many ways she is a D&D player. She is very much is a character I can relate to. We first see her settling in town, enjoying the benefits of a fantasy world, excited to try new meats when she goes to the market, awkward when addressing knights not noticing her gender, she is not above being petty for being flat either.. I kinda can relate.

So the first half of the first episode cleverly sets up her character showing us her abilities and thought process in a charming harmless way. Around the midway point of the first episode however we get the exposure dump by her cute familiar creature. In my eyes .. he is kind of like the Dungeon Masters in a game of D&D, explaining the character and her stats.. but for now the thing is a bit throwaway. I wish it had a bit of a cuter voice, it’s very human like voice , which makes me think of a DM even more. A mediocre exposure dump, that while I can see is necessary , could have been handled better.

The second half  of the episode sees Mile embark on her quest to find the tavern girl and meet with her mysterious of encounter earlier again. Reina the tsundere fire mage, Mavis the androgenic swordswoman and  Pauline the large chested, soft spirited cleric. Together they hunt a group of bandits that are behind a series of child abductions. This is done in a way that is nicely paced. Characters show up when there is need for them allowing us to get a good grasp of them, after which the story  propels Mile back into the stratosphere in terms of ability. She can use any form of magic with ease and without spells and her strength is made significant by putting her amongst lessers. Again the series nails the relatability to Mile by making her realise on character is the tsundere and adapting her behaviour to it.  The fact that she rages when she is called flat and goes beserk might seem like a cheap character trope and in a way it is.. but this is EXACTLY how people build their D&D characters. People add this kind of stuff to their characters for flavor and whimsey so in case of Mile it feels entirely justified, in a way she is playing a D&D game after all , her overpoweredness enforcing that feeling that she CAN actually treat it as such as well. I just can relate so much.

The Heart of the Party

The first episode concludes with a battle between the four girls and a woman named Arledy who wishes for nothing more than an ‘platonic’ young girl harm, where she can put her head on their laps. The party fights Arledy’s generals but are easily overwhelmed, until one of them calls Mile flat.. after which she unleashes her full power beating them. Embarrassed Mile flees the scene, after discovering her friend was safe all along she  heads towards the Hunter Academy.which is basically your standard guild, where they train to be heroes .. or hunters of various ranks. Mile hopes to start a new life here where she can hide her abilities only to be assigned to a dorm that holds those very same three adventurers she encounters the night before. With this somewhat painfully predictable cliffhanger we move into the second episode.

The second episode begins at the exact moment the first ends and continues straight away with all the girls telling more about themselves. All appear to be children with Mavis being 16, Reina 15 Pauline is 14 and Mile is revealed to be 12 years old. Even though she clearly was older when she died. She had to start all over, but those twelve years are left blank. Still leaving some room,  for mystery with the character, which seems a nice choice. Her roommates of course want to know everything about her so she tries to deceive them and chooses to spin very obvious falsehoods. This could seem out of character, after all her intelligence is very high as well, but again this is exactly how D&D characters behave. They are knowing when it comes to monsters, skills etc but no matter how much charisma or intelligence a character has,  the player will somehow end up talking like a fool. This scene is followed by them settling inside the school , with them having a few trials to prove their worth… where Mile obviously fails to be average, nonetheless her roommates are more than happy to party up with her and they get send on their first ‘official’ quest. Kill 10 horned rabbits.

This simple quest nails again what it means to us to be a  beginning adventurer, every D&D or fantasy RPG, mostly MMO’s have you start out with this sort of questline. One might call it uninspirational to follow this trope but every DM and D&D player know the importance of starting out like this. It makes the journey and the leveling more worth it in the end. It will highlight how far you have come when the campaign is over. Yet with a character that is half as strong as a dragon how can you make this worthwhile? The episode cleverly chooses to put Mile into the role of teacher. She concludes her  party would learn nothing from just doing it herself and she uses her skill to teach the others. Once more we see how much this character is like us , making references of games , anime and manga throughout. When being interrogated she imagines being stuck in Phoenix Wright, when she is doing combat training she dresses up like Master Roshi. This is exactly how I would play a character like Mile in a D&D and she has a very similar thought process to me. She sees how training is like Dragon Ball, how things in this world because of their traits fit other geek-culture things and she uses this knowledge to her advantage. The way she  teaches spells is much more visual compared to how many Isekai characters. Shapes and feelings instead of talks of molecules. While there is some science talk it all feels clean and much more catered to their intended targets, making everyone feel a lot more human. By letting Mile be a teacher and crafter she contributes to the world, even if she just makes a Nendoroid.. she isn’t just a walking nuke. She is what makes this party move.

This is exactly what  what makes the conclusion of this episode very pleasant. The lessons Mile teaches to the party make sense and make them grow as adventurers, she doesn’t just shower them with skills either, she makes the other girls reach insights which ends up in them taking on a high level monster by themselves, when Mile gets overwhelmed by excitement. Mavis,  Reina and Pauline demonstrate that not only have they learned their skills, they know how to apply them giving value to this episode. The overpowered protagonist easily takes down two other golems keeping the tone of the show intact and again very much succeeding in making this seem like a game to Mile. They found out all other groups failed their quests and the adorable twelve year old realises that when she is not directly involved  her party is well above average. Simply because the “average” skill of the party is to high again. Perfect for a lingering smile from me as a viewer.

Flavor

While I do get this show is not for everyone and can feel generic because it heavily relies on tropes, I kind of feel that that is the entire point. To me it feels like it’s written by someone who knows D&D and how your standard fantasy adventure works. While Mile may not be original , in honesty neither are most of our D&D characters. These tropes have existed since the 70’s and we still use them to this day. This unlike to most of its previous seasons counterparts to me knows exactly what makes them fun , funny and applies them in a way that shows knowledge of what makes fantasy so great.  Arledy is being set up as an antagonist again, while she may not hold a candle to the perfectly average girl she is an ideal villain who can actually antagonise our main girl , threatening her newly found friends and that average life. I am excited to see what the future holds and found these episode to be berry good!

Welcome to Paradise

Welcome my sweet little geeks! A few days ago I had a bit of a breakdown. Bad luck had gotten me down. Following Pokémon spoilers I did not want to follow to get something to write about felt wrong as well. I want to have my happy place where I can freely ramble about whatever is on my mind, on whatever geeky topic I want. My paradise! Since I like some community feeling at the very least, you are welcome to join me here. Don’t mind the webadress, it will change once I buy a new domain.

Such a lovely place

As you can see my resort is still amazingly pink, a happy little place with a nice pink sunset, lovely beach and those weird Tiki things are a lot less annoying than the ones in Crash Bandicoot. The blog will be a safe space, a haven, a resort.  I want to be able to be me, but I realised it needed to be the complete me. Every geeky little bit of it. So this is why I chose the theme of paradise, in the non intrusive non cloudlike matter.. because that version..well it might not be for everyone. Who doesn’t like a tropical island resort?! So that is what we will stick with. Does this means I have completely changed? No! There will always be the pinkness and even pokémon will still be a big part of this blog. Just not every day, that was just to much Pokémon. The poké-poop got everywhere and trust me it’s nothing like Digimon Poop. I love the franchise very much , more than anything even but I also wanted to get excited about others things. We still have the poképool , but paradise also has a movie theatre, a bar where we can discuss things we have experienced and much more. Paradise also has a lot more rooms for all sorts of geeky people to stay! Fun for everyone and even more fun for me!

The Cocktail Menu

So what do we offer in my tropical resort? Well we have a much wider variety of content cocktails which you can come in a bunch if different flavors as well. Reviews, rambles,  rants and much more. They are all served under the geeky umbrella with a funny straw and some refreshing voice ice cubes. For now I serve five different flavors. Let me talk a bit about them.

The Movieto

I am  quite fond of movies, I love going to the cinema and finding obscure movies to watch. I am mostly a horror-buff but I do enjoy a good animated or superhero movie as well. As long as it doesn’t feature dubbed over real animals or Eddie Murphy, I am good. (Can you guess what my least favorite movie in the world is?) From time to time I will serve you this content which can be recognised by the featured image, that shows a movie reel and a duck! Why a duck? I love ducks! Mostly horror ducks, I even like talking once.. when they are not voiced by Eddie Murphy.. did he ever voice a duck?!  He shouldn’t! The Movieto will mostly contain reviews, but sometimes I might talk about a cinematic trend or universe as well. Expect some rage as well because I can be quite picky when it comes to movies. I do not believe we should forgive .. because ‘It’s a movie’ or ‘It’s the Disney Mindset’ or the worst one ‘Little children don’t know any better’ No I demand my entertainment to be at least somewhat thought out! Most of the time!

The Game-Tonic

Pokémon I mostly love for the games, but wouldn’t you know it that I play other games as wel! ‘NANI’ Yes other games! Nothing fancy or so, but it’s something! So I do like to talk about these kinds of things as well. Mostly reviews again, but also more reflective pieces about what I think is wrong with our current game culture and some news I like can be found inside these cocktails. I am not much of a modern gamer though so I will mostly be viewing the classics, remake or original, I love the classic games right up until the gamecube age. After that, well the Wii wasn’t a very nice console if you have difficulty console to have if your motorically challenged so I went with an X-box 360.. it had the same colour! While I own about 70 games on xbox 360, none of them had THAT magic. So yeah expect a lot of retro-fashioned gaming stuff. Yay! It will be delightful! I got so many plans for this already. You can recognise this cocktail by the controller logo and the Owlbear! Why the Owlbear? Because it’s an owlbear!

The Poké Colada

Not everything has to change, so a large chunk of this blog still will be dedicated to my beloved subject of pokémon. Expect the usual suspects in terms of content as well. Trainer profiles, Top 5’s , pokemon reviews, and even my OWLS post this month will be about Pokémon.. to an extend. Everything you used to get from me will be there but of course for the next good while we will put a big focus on Pokémon Sword and Shield. Discussing my journey through the game, reviewing the anime, discussing some of the awesome new pokémon I find and me fawning over Galarian Ponyta. Like I mentioned earlier I decided not to get into the leaks to let some sense of wonder still exists which fills me with joy and it seems more me. Which made me feel like I made the right choice not to JUST blog about pokémon. As much as I had to tell about them, looking into every little bit of news.. just made me lose the childlike sense of awe when I figured new things out at my own pace. I am very much looking forward to this cocktail myself. Woop woop!  You can recognise this cocktail by the highlighted image with pokéball and chibi Sylveon! It’s still my favorite pokémon..but now has a competitor. Expect a cage match for my love, somewhere in the new game’s release.

The Anime Spritz

By now those who know their liquor must realise that these images of drinks have nothing to do with what’s in the glass, for one .. none of these cocktails are originally pink secondly they are all in the wrong glass with the wrong garnish…hey I do not drink that much! I just like fruity colourful drinks and it’s a paradise theme. Besides a game, a movie buff and poké-freak I am also a bit of a Weeaboo, I like other anime as well. I like a lot of cutesy stuff but mostly into the weird and over the top thingies. I’ve outgrown basic Shounen a bit , even though I still enjoy viewing some good old Dragon Ball or even My Hero Academia. While I love cutesy stuff one of the animes I’ve never been able to stomach is Lucky Star, it is potentially one of my most hated series.. I just can’t get into it no matter how hard I try. I tend to dislike a lot of the more popular things, while recognising their quality, Code Geass for example I also very much dislike even if I liked Euphemia , I never felt these character were ‘human’ or something. So the reviews I will put out might be significantly different from what you see around  I bet I will not just talk be doing reviews though, I will also analyse characters, maybe put them in a pokémon match against each other to see who will win. You can take a girl out of the pokéball but you can’t take the pokéball out of this girl..that would be offensive.I needed a logo to represent anime..which was a lot harder than the other four.. so I chose the icon most anime fans will tie in with anime itself.. the crunchyroll symbol.. then I made it pink because everything is better in pink. There is a unicorn in there as well because they make everything more magical!  Hopefully my content as well.

The Martin-ME

The fifth and final sort of content will be my most personal content, stuff that really is about me.  This can be very broad and is basically a cheap trick to talk about anything I want when I want. My favorite board game .. says something about me.. so I can place it hear. If I want to talk about cards against humanity instead , I will just review it under the guise of a very fun play session I experienced. From my dreams to my past , from my greatest moments to my biggest fails it all will be discussed under the banner of this cocktail. It’s geeky lifestyle mixed with otherwise uncategorizable brainfarts. So when this cocktail shows up you are always in for a surprise. I can not promise you a Martin-Me every week because this cocktail is best written when inspired and I can never tell when that sentiment hits. Feel free to ask me personal questions in the comments if you want this subject to pop up more! Then I will answer those for you in a new post! Yay! Arrangements!.  The logo is a cute twin tailed geeky girl and our little pet companion is a d20, for those who do not know what a d20 is.. it’s a 20 sided dice… and YES that is a pet! Dices have feelings too! If you do not agree go play D&D you’ll know what I am talking about!

Plenty of flavour

So as you can see we will go all in with the new luxurious resort theme. Join the other guests at the resort and get a free imaginary cookie and a lei garland as well. If I get enough of a community we might even open up a pool bar! Pinkie’s Pool Bar does sound kinda need… *swagger-walking-animation* So thematically we should be good. Of course our review system will be themed towards the tropics as well. Pinkie does not grade based on numbers because that makes it to easy for people to attack me about it… ‘She only gave Dr Stone a 6’  instead I will use some very ambiguous flavors for my reviews. I think they speak for themselves.. and wouldn’t you say.. they are super cute!

So with this new direction I would like you to take seat at our imaginary pool, or run around in our arcade or even go take a walk on our beach and just enjoy yourself. You are in a place of like minded spirits, let’s enjoy ourselves together, no matter who you are, where your from or what flaws you have. As long as you are a geek, this can be your haven. Welcome to Paradise.
