700 Hours on Youtube: Pinkie Watches Critical Role

Originally I planned to make a post about the new Star Wars movie in this spot first. Yet I really I went with the direction of love, and I didn’t love the New Star Wars movie . This Sci-Fi fantasy epic has dumbed down, to nothing more Ethan a entertainment thrill ride. Still entertaining as long as you turn of your brain and just enjoy the pew pew and the swoosh swoosh! Luckily the Star Wars show are still pretty good. However since Lord of the Rings is already finished, I needed something to get my fantasy adventure shot. As a D&D DM I have 3 hours fantasy adventures every thursday! But each week I also get provided by a 3 to 4 hour epic fantasy adventure to follow.  The youtube channel or Twitch Channel .. of Critical Role. Happy Happy Joy Joy!

Nerdy voice actors, playing dungeons and dragons

Critical Role in it’s concept is nothing more than a bunch of nerdy ass voice actors playing dungeons and dragons. The games are led by Matthew Mercer, who is probably best known for his voice work in the fire emblem games and that cowboy guy that clearly doesn’t have a correct watch in Overwatch. Kinda weird when you think about it right.. a cowboy always thinking it’s high noon.. in a group called overWATCh..you’d figure he’d know the correct time. Even if Matthew might not be a great time teller, he is a great DM that helms not one but two fantasy epic in the form of the Vox Machina Campaign and the Mighty Nein campaign. Both to be found on youtube and the second one being ongoing. The first one has become so popular that it has inspired a origin comic and soon even an animated series. I myself have only really started following the second campaign, which is produced in a lot higher quality and starts it’s campaign right at the beginning of their adventure. Vox Machina they played as a game of friends before they started streaming so we pick up this tale a fair bit into the adventure.

So who are the players in these wonderful campaigns? Travis Willingham , who is known as the voice of Turalyon in World of Warcraft and Knuckles in  most of the current sonic games. He is accompanied by his partner Laura Bailey is the voice of Jaina Proudmoore from World of Warcraft, Blaze the Cat in Sonic and kid Trunks in Dragon Ball Z. Matthew Mercer’s partner Marisha Ray is also part of the team, she has done work on the Persona franchise but is mostly working on the twitch channel of Geek and Sundry. Taliesin Jaffe plays along as well this man you might know from the english hellsing dub and like most of them has a role in World of Warcraft in the form of Darion Mograine and Admiral Ripsnarl. Liam O’Brien plays Caleb Widogast in the second campaign, my favorite mage character ever. When he speaks you might know him as Illidan Stormrage! .. yes that is from Warcraft as well. Ashley Johnson is the final girl on the table. Her hollywood career prevents her from being ever present at the game table, she currently stars in the tv series blindspot but I think the most people here would best know her as Ellie, from the last of us.  Academy Award Winner Sam Riegel finishes up the table. While he had his fair share of career moments, amongst us I think we best know him as Tristan Taylor and Rex Raptor from Yu-Gi-Oh. He also played Clovis la Britannia in the Code Geass dub. Together this casts puts on a very enjoyable show that is somewhat reminiscent of those old radio plays… but a lot geekier.

That’s a lot of rolling!

Critical role currently has somewhere near and over 200 episodes I think With them being three to four hours long that is a lot of campaign to cover. So where do you begin to watch an 700 hour series? (which is excluding all the bonus one shot and special episodes)  Start at the first episode of the second campaign! High production value, good sound quality, plenty of recap episodes to be found and the story is separated from the first. Vox Machina will soon have a animated series, it has a comic and so much more that it will be easy to familiarise yourself with it anyway. The second campaign is a bit more chaotic but also a bit more lighthearted. Which is a great place to start if you don’t know much about D&D and want to see if it might be something for you. Still this series already has about 90 episodes so there’s still a lot of ground to cover. Keep in mind though that the quality of this game doesn’t really reflect an actual D&D game, a fair part of this is somewhat scripted and Matthew has an entire writing team behind him to aid in his endeavours to prepare for each game. Your average DM would not have that, but as a result this kind of feels like D&D the movie.  Yes there is a Dungeons and Dragons movie but…if you see blue lipstick on a guy.. back off! Don’t watch it. There are a few other D&D movies but those I shall cover another time.

Critical Role Campaign two focuses on the (mis)adventures of the mighty nein, a group of ragtag adventurous who get drawn together after there an incident when the circus is in town. What begins as a series of mercenary like mission soon begins to evolve into a greater adventure involving Eldritch like creatures and a mysterious artifact of tremendous power.
Each episode is an actual session of D&D , which can include social encounters, traveling, random combat or complete dungeons. The series is very nicely paced where even dungeon like encounters are mostly done entirely in our heads. Only when doodoo gets real Matthew takes out a model of the area and we get the classical grid based movement that comes with D&D. These are all stunningly made and increase the atmosphere so much. On occasion we see the group practice their sessions at big conventions in front of a live audience, which is also a treat to see. So many people are so engaged with the hobby and that is so mesmerising and really oozes that atmosphere of we are geeks for geeks this show succeeds atso greatly. There is so much content from both campaigns too the one shots. The even promoted the My Little Pony role playing game by playing it! It was friggin adorable to see them fight hellhound …by playing with them and pacifying them. Famous geeks oftenly make guest appearances, like Wil Wheaton , Wesley Crusher from Star Trek the next generation, the big bang theory and his own youtube endeavours for example. But also Deborah Ann Woll , best known for her role as Jessica Hamby in true blood.  Apparently she is a huuuuge geek, and when she played her character Twiggy on the show .. I had a little celebrity crush moment. She also hosts her own show on the Twitch as a DM but unfortunately due to bad time zones that isn’t really watchable to me….I wish she would get a regular seat in the game… than again.. I would celebrity crush all over again.

Fun fun fantasy

With three hours plus each episode, there is very little going on at the sessions visually. Which makes Critical Role the perfect webshow to put on when cleaning. Compare it too an audio book, but instead of that narrative flow where you know the main character will never really die anyway and you can sort off predict if other characters will die or not everything here is decided by a roll of the dice. Just about everything can happen. There may be a script but all you need is one bad dice roll to completely toss that off track. Part of the fun  greatness that is Critical Role is seeing the players have fun, try something out of the box and stump the DM. This is exactly the fun that D&D should be about and even though this version is streamlined for entertainment purposes, it still captures that sense of chaos of an actual game. A lot of the other online campaigns lack that sensation a bit. Here we see the despair on the face of the dm, the fear of death in the players eyes and that irresistible urge to metagame when someone clearly isn’t thinking straight or overlooks their best options.  This still truly is D&D. Trough the voice acting of mostly Mercer but also great acting from Laura Bailey for example in her role as the mischievous tiefling jester Lavorre, this fantasy world comes to live like no other. With no visuals to speak of except for some fan art and location models it all plays off in your head , but unlike most audio books i, in so many different voices that it’s something truly unique. We can hear the characters AND the players, and we can feel both of them having fun! Which turns these adventures into true delights.

Some of the highlights to me are when the game opens and Sam Riegel talks about their sponsors. Each week he prepares a little sketch to promote their sponsor and they are all so weird , funny and out there. We do not see a professional Academy Award Winner doing this.. even if he is.. we see a guy having some fun with it,  like as if we made these skits up right before our dungeons and dragon games. I wrote Jingles on my bard character like he did, I promoted in game stuff when my character was magicly compelled just like he did. I just didn’t happen to get mine produced into an 80’s cartoon commercial..like he did !It all feels just soooooo … geeky and like one of us… that you almost feel as if you are sitting with them at that gaming table. Their animated introduction is something that is truly amazing making me yearn for the day that their animated show finally gets out. It can get a bit commercial here and there.. but that kind of comes with the territory of twitch and youtube.  These guys have found a great community, where geeks unite, this is what I aspire to find.. well not as big and not on my blog persé but I want to be a part of that crowd, a part of people who love each other for loving that one thing they all love.  This show is carried by that community and in a way made for that community. Rather than trying to aim this on a bigger crowd or playing this safe in terms of story Critical Role is not afraid to take risks. Yet they never forget their core audience. While each day new people become Critters (fans of Critical Role are referred as such)  they will never stop doing what made them so amazing in the first place.

So while we may see an end of epic storytelling in the cinemas where complex stories of moral dilemmas get replaced by battles of absolute good versus absolute evil, we will always have that place where we can turn too for the stories we loved before. While the silver screen rather caters do a few extra dollars than their core audience, somewhere we can still find those epic tales of old being told to us …by people like us. While subtlety and secrecy have less and less of a place in blockbusters in favor of in your face comedy, spectacular boom boom, pow pow that doesn’t need a proper build and where your hand is held in terms of plot.. there is still a place where we can wonder about why that line was spoken so callously, where we can wonder of a guy can be trusted without it being shown to us in the next shot or we jokes can be subtle and require you to see something else to get. To mer personally both The Hobbit and the new Star Wars trilogy have shown that the age of epic storytelling in cinema is over.  We have entered the age of epic visual story telling. While that is entertaining in it’s own way it’s like comparing the joy of a rollercoaster to that of a good book. Luckily youtube has the perfect replacement for geeks like me… we just gotta use a little bit more of our own imagination…but with a community as amazing as the Critters even in that we can be helped. Not by the movie makers, but by one another and to be honest that is an even more epic way to experience these things. Because everything is JUST like we imagine it.

Didn’t I Say to make my Abilities Average in the Next Life (Episode 1-2)

Aloha, my dear guests, today I serve you a new content cocktail from the Isekai vein. A cute little show that plays that really pushes some right buttons for me. After the last Isekai I watched, being Isekai Cheat Magician I could really use a winner. Let’s see if this one can convince me.

One Punch Man’s Blessing on this Wonderful World

Conceptually this Isekai show is nearly identical to any other. Girl dies by a truck to save a little kid and gets a chance to start a new life in a magical world and ends up being extremely powerful. Nothing new under the tropical sun here. Yet from the get go I felt welcomed by this show.  Misato was a genius girl in her old live and thus lived a life in a bit of an ivory tower. High expectations made her even more of a loner, causing her to only find solace in her geekdom. Due to being a geek she recognises the truck and fully realises what is happening to her as she is familiar with all the Isekai tropes. As a result she wishes to be perfectly average so she can have plenty of friends. Unfortunately her new god, takes in account every species living in this world, giving her new life Adele/Mile the stats that are that of the weakest little bug .. and an Elder Dragon combined.. and then divided by two. Thusly.. Mile, as she prefers to go by is 6800 times stronger than your average mage. She’s also a noble by the name of Adele von Ascham which she tries to hide. As a result we do get an interesting twist in the genre in the fact that it’s not about her learning to wield her overpowered abilities of her.. but about trying not to to use the.  It feels very aware of the fantasy tropes and has that ‘pen and paper’ feeling that I loved in Konosuba mixed with quite a few hints of One Punch Man with just a dash of Blood Lad, or Gintama, in terms of references. While not groundbreakingly original I can not help but feel this anime is really targeted at people like me.

Mile & Me

Over the course of the first two episodes this feeling only got stronger and stronger. We see Mile move into a tavern for a night, which leads into her finding a party, like any classic fantasy D&D adventure SHOULD begin.  They got their bases right. In the tavern Mile meets a girl that goes missing which is her original quest , which ..as stars align will allow her to meet all her party members twice. This feels as it should be.. not very original but as an homage to classic fantasy stories. I know I am skipping a few scenes here, but this feeling is something important to remark because this theme is recurring for me. Mile throughout the first two episodes could come across as your standard awkward protagonist, but she is more than that. In many ways she is a D&D player. She is very much is a character I can relate to. We first see her settling in town, enjoying the benefits of a fantasy world, excited to try new meats when she goes to the market, awkward when addressing knights not noticing her gender, she is not above being petty for being flat either.. I kinda can relate.

So the first half of the first episode cleverly sets up her character showing us her abilities and thought process in a charming harmless way. Around the midway point of the first episode however we get the exposure dump by her cute familiar creature. In my eyes .. he is kind of like the Dungeon Masters in a game of D&D, explaining the character and her stats.. but for now the thing is a bit throwaway. I wish it had a bit of a cuter voice, it’s very human like voice , which makes me think of a DM even more. A mediocre exposure dump, that while I can see is necessary , could have been handled better.

The second half  of the episode sees Mile embark on her quest to find the tavern girl and meet with her mysterious of encounter earlier again. Reina the tsundere fire mage, Mavis the androgenic swordswoman and  Pauline the large chested, soft spirited cleric. Together they hunt a group of bandits that are behind a series of child abductions. This is done in a way that is nicely paced. Characters show up when there is need for them allowing us to get a good grasp of them, after which the story  propels Mile back into the stratosphere in terms of ability. She can use any form of magic with ease and without spells and her strength is made significant by putting her amongst lessers. Again the series nails the relatability to Mile by making her realise on character is the tsundere and adapting her behaviour to it.  The fact that she rages when she is called flat and goes beserk might seem like a cheap character trope and in a way it is.. but this is EXACTLY how people build their D&D characters. People add this kind of stuff to their characters for flavor and whimsey so in case of Mile it feels entirely justified, in a way she is playing a D&D game after all , her overpoweredness enforcing that feeling that she CAN actually treat it as such as well. I just can relate so much.

The Heart of the Party

The first episode concludes with a battle between the four girls and a woman named Arledy who wishes for nothing more than an ‘platonic’ young girl harm, where she can put her head on their laps. The party fights Arledy’s generals but are easily overwhelmed, until one of them calls Mile flat.. after which she unleashes her full power beating them. Embarrassed Mile flees the scene, after discovering her friend was safe all along she  heads towards the Hunter Academy.which is basically your standard guild, where they train to be heroes .. or hunters of various ranks. Mile hopes to start a new life here where she can hide her abilities only to be assigned to a dorm that holds those very same three adventurers she encounters the night before. With this somewhat painfully predictable cliffhanger we move into the second episode.

The second episode begins at the exact moment the first ends and continues straight away with all the girls telling more about themselves. All appear to be children with Mavis being 16, Reina 15 Pauline is 14 and Mile is revealed to be 12 years old. Even though she clearly was older when she died. She had to start all over, but those twelve years are left blank. Still leaving some room,  for mystery with the character, which seems a nice choice. Her roommates of course want to know everything about her so she tries to deceive them and chooses to spin very obvious falsehoods. This could seem out of character, after all her intelligence is very high as well, but again this is exactly how D&D characters behave. They are knowing when it comes to monsters, skills etc but no matter how much charisma or intelligence a character has,  the player will somehow end up talking like a fool. This scene is followed by them settling inside the school , with them having a few trials to prove their worth… where Mile obviously fails to be average, nonetheless her roommates are more than happy to party up with her and they get send on their first ‘official’ quest. Kill 10 horned rabbits.

This simple quest nails again what it means to us to be a  beginning adventurer, every D&D or fantasy RPG, mostly MMO’s have you start out with this sort of questline. One might call it uninspirational to follow this trope but every DM and D&D player know the importance of starting out like this. It makes the journey and the leveling more worth it in the end. It will highlight how far you have come when the campaign is over. Yet with a character that is half as strong as a dragon how can you make this worthwhile? The episode cleverly chooses to put Mile into the role of teacher. She concludes her  party would learn nothing from just doing it herself and she uses her skill to teach the others. Once more we see how much this character is like us , making references of games , anime and manga throughout. When being interrogated she imagines being stuck in Phoenix Wright, when she is doing combat training she dresses up like Master Roshi. This is exactly how I would play a character like Mile in a D&D and she has a very similar thought process to me. She sees how training is like Dragon Ball, how things in this world because of their traits fit other geek-culture things and she uses this knowledge to her advantage. The way she  teaches spells is much more visual compared to how many Isekai characters. Shapes and feelings instead of talks of molecules. While there is some science talk it all feels clean and much more catered to their intended targets, making everyone feel a lot more human. By letting Mile be a teacher and crafter she contributes to the world, even if she just makes a Nendoroid.. she isn’t just a walking nuke. She is what makes this party move.

This is exactly what  what makes the conclusion of this episode very pleasant. The lessons Mile teaches to the party make sense and make them grow as adventurers, she doesn’t just shower them with skills either, she makes the other girls reach insights which ends up in them taking on a high level monster by themselves, when Mile gets overwhelmed by excitement. Mavis,  Reina and Pauline demonstrate that not only have they learned their skills, they know how to apply them giving value to this episode. The overpowered protagonist easily takes down two other golems keeping the tone of the show intact and again very much succeeding in making this seem like a game to Mile. They found out all other groups failed their quests and the adorable twelve year old realises that when she is not directly involved  her party is well above average. Simply because the “average” skill of the party is to high again. Perfect for a lingering smile from me as a viewer.

Flavor

While I do get this show is not for everyone and can feel generic because it heavily relies on tropes, I kind of feel that that is the entire point. To me it feels like it’s written by someone who knows D&D and how your standard fantasy adventure works. While Mile may not be original , in honesty neither are most of our D&D characters. These tropes have existed since the 70’s and we still use them to this day. This unlike to most of its previous seasons counterparts to me knows exactly what makes them fun , funny and applies them in a way that shows knowledge of what makes fantasy so great.  Arledy is being set up as an antagonist again, while she may not hold a candle to the perfectly average girl she is an ideal villain who can actually antagonise our main girl , threatening her newly found friends and that average life. I am excited to see what the future holds and found these episode to be berry good!

OWLS Fantasy Special: A CLASS in Chaos

Believe it or not, I do not spend every waking moment thinking about pokémon.  I have some other hobbies as well. One of the includes being a Dungeon Master in three games. Though of course one is a  pokémon, another one is a classical high fantasy D&D 5th game. The type where you face dragons and crazed goblins side by  side with your friends using twenty sided dice to overcome any challenge along the way. Over my years of playing and mostly hosting campaigns I have noticed something however, no matter what campaign you play, who you play with or even how long you play… each campaign has “that guy’. Several of them even.

Classes

My fellow OWLS came up with the topic of Fantasy to be the theme of October.

“The genre of fantasy focuses on telling stories about our external and internal environments. There are many ways we can interpret the word, fantasy. For example, we can talk about how a fantastical place could glorify what reality should be or the dangers of ideal expectations. Fantasy could also be seen as taking a “wild journey” or a “hallucination” and how that can affect our psyche and well-being.  Fantasy can also focus on our personal dreams and expectations and how those expectations do not align with our reality. “

My post will focus on a combination of these aspects through the beautiful medium of Dungeons and Dragons or other tabletop RPGs , answering how and why we play it. How we deal with fantasy and D&D can be divided into ‘Classes’ a trope that is very connected to pen and paper, or even any , role playing games. We can not colour outside the lines to much because in these games we SHARE our fantasies. So not only do we have to live up to our own expectations, we also have make sure the others see that same character we want to be. When we push our fantasy outside of the limits, people will think we are bad at this whole fantasy theme.. so as a result we have developed certain arch-types which always work  for enjoyment. As a DM however I also see how these ‘Classes” can create ‘Broken Parties’.
The anime ‘Konosuba’ portrays this wonderfully well and the main heroes of the story really resemble the types of players one can get in a D&D. So let’s examine this .

The Hero

The first archetype I wish to discuss is the noble hero. The knight in shining armor. Players who follow the path of the hero usually choose character classes in D&D  like Paladin, Fighter or Ranger. That being said, your class doesn’t always have to be one of the three but people are naturally inclined to gravitate towards these roles. Oftenly they prefer to play fairly standard races, like Humans or Elves but basically any race is a possibility to them because everybody can have a good heart.  Oftenly they come from noble backgrounds but got fed up with the injustice in the world. Sons or daughters of people who matter or mattered. They follow the path of Bruce Wayne or oppose their “tyrannical noble father and have been outcast. The characters are often very religious with strong moral fiber. They have denounced love or have created a loved one NPC that  drives them to do what they do. Characters developed by the ‘Hero’ will oftenly abstain from drinking alcohol and will relatively have few vices. Yet most of their story arcs revolve around redemption.

(Ashley Johnson is an
example of the Hero
)

Players in this “class’ will be recognisable by always taking the  ‘good’ option. A friend got kidnapped and they demand ransom? They will at least show up with whatever the bad guy wants in return as well as set up a trap for them.. so that evil will not prevail that day.  They will try try remove the corrupt from their seat of power and try to turn whatever fantasy world they are into a utopia. Their characters are often played as naive OR overly cautious and aware of everything. This is the archetype that is most appealing to new players. They follow the DM’s story very neatly and their own goals are made to align with that of the campaign. They are by far the easiest players to deal with, but the easiest to disappoint when the DM throws a spanner into their plans. They do enjoy their comedic moments from the more chaotic party members and make sure they can aid them at all times. The hero does like the serious moments a lot better though.

Lalatina Dustiness Ford, better known as Darkness,  from Konosuba highlights what creates chaos with these types of players. Your average hero is extremely self sacrificial, putting themselves in harms way to save the rest of the party. They have little to no self preservation and would give their lives to save a party member from a low level imp creature , if it was bluffing it had an instant death curse. They are tension breakers, who like Darkness have some masochistic tendencies. If someone loses their character first, it should be them, if someone has to be punished for the rogue stealing things.. it should be them.  Darkness loves being punished and it arouses her. While I am not implying this goes for every hero player they do share a lot of similarities.

They oftenly reject quest rewards because taking payment for saving people is wrong. During campaigns it means these people can easily get undergeared while still throwing themselves first into danger.  They have tend low self-esteem in real life and value them and their character less over the enjoyment of others. However since they are often very armoured they can be incredibly difficult to hit. Creating stalemates where they are to undergeared to hit anything properly, but are too to take damage. Exactly like Darkness! She can’t hit a thing, but can survive critical hits from bosses like it’s nothing. While players do not flaunt their masochism as much as Darkness does it will always be them who pays toll for their fellows who are either short on cash or unwilling to pay. When someone has to drink a poison to move through a trial it will always be them, and if someone has to take a cursed ring that can eat on one’s sanity it will ALWAYS be them. At times their noble and even corrective behaviour can really put other player out of play. However these people are often the heart of the party, and can bring balance between the more serious and the more wacky players. They enjoy this experience with their friends and alongside the DM they will try to make sure others have a good time as well.

The High Roller

The second type is the High Roller, this type of player doesn’t really care about being noble nor does he aspire to be evil. In fact this one doesn’t even care about the story all that much. The High Roller just wants to outdamage everyone. They want to roll as much dice as possible and maximise their damage output. If someone deals more damage as them, they’ll have a bad session. The High Roller mostly sticks to classes who deal magic damage. Wizard and Sorcerer are very popular with them but they may also dabble with Rogues and are the first person who will ask the DM if they can use third party classes. They play races which benefit their chosen class. So if they play a Wizard, they will choose a race that has an intelligence bonus. Characters they play have less of a fleshed out background , because their story is not that relevant to the numbers they roll. More often than not they play edgy loner characters. The ones who do not make friends easily, who sit alone in a dark corner in the tavern where everyone starts their adventure. For a DM these are the hardest type of characters to get involved into the main story. Be prepared for some creative storytelling. High Roller players have optimal stats for damage , as a result their characters are not very versatile. They can’t use a sword because “strength” is a dump stat,  they can’t talk their way out of things .. because Charisma is a dump stat. Characters of the High Roller almost disappear when they have some time off from slaying goblins and oftenly just pick up a book and read until it is time to kill again.

(Liam O’Brien is a High Roller)

The High Roller player are very driven by the printed game rulings, they do not take kindly to homebrew rules and other interpretations  and are the ones who will argue with the DM the most. High Rollers know which spell they will take for many levels ahead. From the moment of creation their character is already fully build out. They know what spells to take, what feats to select and they know what sort of enemies not to hit. They want to be the one that kills the boss of each session, they want to be praised for that 72 damage they did when the ranger only did 20. It’s the big hits that count. Even if the rogue hit the enemy 5x with 15 damage .. that single 72 roll is still better. The high roller doesn’t like to spare enemies as it means they miss out on the kill. These are people who love to track how much relevant kills each player has made and more often than not they will be on the top of that list.  While most High Rollers do not care as much for a place in the spotlight there are those who do. Because they do so much damage a lot of those tend to get “protagonist” syndrome where they inflate their own importance compared to the rest of the group, oftenly resulting in the character and sometimes the player being less liked. In puzzles they also want to be the one who finally solves it, even if their friends actually solved the riddle, they will take credit for opening the door.

Megumin is the character in Konosuba who fulfills this role. She is an archwizard who has learned the most powerful spell EXPLOSION. Due to it being a spell that is over her limit however she can only cast it once before falling to the ground completely useless. However she is so in love with casting this damage spell she will oftenly put herself in harm’s way to be able to do so. This is a classical high roller player problem. They do not always play that nicely as a team. The High Roller has to do the biggest number each session so sometimes even though he is frail he has to put himself in harm’s way just so he can roll those dice.  This can create chaotic situations where everyone has to save the glass cannon all of the sudden, forcing them to turn their backs on enemies and they can find themselves up a creek without a paddle. Plot Twists that the final boss, was not actually the final boss can be extremely dangerous for your party if the High Roller is baited into using all his good spells early. Megumin embodies this so well, even the fact that she almost “steals” screen time. Her odd ‘non immersive’ name is another indicator where she doesnt care if she even fits in the world. It’s all about that damage.

Players who follow this path oftenly feel unrecognised and invisible in the real world, a trope that oftenly is liked by the ‘number’ guys of gal of the group. The “smart” ones as it were. People who like this role tend to flaunt their intelligence in real life a bit, oftenly choosing more serious table conversations than the other three categories. Not exactly the life of the party but these people are very grateful towards the DM because they are granted something by them that they lack. Their loyalty to the game is oftenly unsurpassed and with some health cheating from a DM (and we all do that)  they are among the easiest of crowds to please, which will give them actually great joy. In most groups the High Roller feels like the odd one out, yet we all need them to keep the game into motion because….

The Survivor

D&D is a game where characters can  and in case of long campaigns, most likely WILL die. However there is one type of player who above anything else is very afraid to lose their imaginative character. I call these people the survivors. They tend to play versatile classes, which have access to self heals, ranged attacks and even some melee possibilities .. just in case they ever got forced into such a situation. They like to play healers as well as those tend to be targeted less (unlike in my campaigns where enemies ACTUALLY have eyes and will take countermeasures) . They tend to play some of the more relatable races like humans and elves again. Oftenly very beautiful and sweet. They aren’t adverse to picking another good looking race though, if it gives them better stats. The survivor tends to choose a background story that makes their character beloved and popular or at the very least desired by their beauty. They are oftenly the rightful noble ruler of a land who had to flee or got taken off the throne by some mysterious force. These characters fall in line the fairytale tropes a lot. Even when played by non-females they prefer choose to make a female character. I have seen male survivor characters but they occur significantly less. These characters tend to be very fleshed out, with players even being able to describe what scent their character have or how they move their eyes, in an instant . They tend to be obsessed with even the smallest details of their looks and will describe every single outfit within fine detail.  Characters like these blossom in downtime/ free time , making themselves very popular in towns and being kind to most npc’s, as long as they are not evil.

(Laura Bailey is a Survivor)

The Survivor themselves however is not nearly as strong or confident as they make their character. Ruled by a constant fear of losing their character they would wish their character was a god. In terms of building their character they are the exact opposite of the High Roller. When A survivor gets in trouble because of poison, the player will tend to choose a spell or gain new equipment to counter that in the future.  They “patch’ out their weaknesses as it were but tend to lose oversight of the bigger picture trough their fears . When I as a DM send you through a poisonous bog, it will most likely mean you will not encounter a similar challenge for a good while after. However the survivor is paranoid by nature, they saw they were weak to this.. they know I saw, what if I use it to finish them off now better patch it out. The Survivor tends to demonise the DM , sees them as a heinous monster just out to kill them in the most brutal way possible.A survivor oftenly refers to their character as themselves . They also tend to suffer from protagonist-syndrome even more so than the High Roller. They are unmissable to the story in their eyes and will make an effort and play to actually be that.. They will carry the macguffin,  as long as it does not harm their character. They will offer to be be the leader of the group, as long as that doesn’t put them into additional danger. They will do anything to inflate their character’s importance as that equals survivability in their eyes. To kill the character would be to kill the story. They keep looking backward instead of forward, taking abilities to overcome trials like the one they just overcame and banking on importance of NPCs they befriended when they already moved past.

Aqua, the former goddess from Konosuba is a bit of a spoof of the classical survivor trope. While we do not see her take useless skills in the form of “after event skills” she spends all her skill points in their magical world on party tricks. Which she uses to make herself more popular and beloved. Claiming to be an actual goddess (which in her case is true)  and very much disliking the current god Erris (Which is basically is sort of the DM of that world) she even goes as far as to blackmail that god into bringing back a dead character for her own sake. Her over reliance on ‘useless’ skills can make her extremely situational and sometimes even completely offside her, which we see happen when she tries to punch some toads. During her dealings with the poisoned lake we also see the typical panic that goes through a Survivor type player. She is portrayed whining a lot, and crying , overvaluing  herself and her items.

When rolling a dice you average about half of it rounding up, effectively.  This means if you can roll a d6 for damage you average 4..This is not the case in the eyes of a survivor. They will always assume the worst. A survivor will ‘never’ risk their character even if there is only a 1% chance of death. I once saw a Survivor player flee a dungeon, leaving the party behind causing one player death because there was a 0.16% chance that she would be finished off before she could end the fight. In the eyes of a survivor they will always get the worst outcome possible and they will act accordingly. This can drag on encounters a lot longer than they need to be and the survivor will always take the longest to finish their turns. Players who follow the path of the survivor are oftenly uncertain in real life and their fear can cripple themselves as well as your game. However this type tends to heal and find more confidence in themselves trough games over time. The survivor is the easiest to spot as he or she will be the player who will have the other players reaching for their phones.  They can not plan ahead because they need all information before they can decide on any play. Survivors are among the  greatest of roleplayers though, they make sure you care about their character and really make it a part of this world. They are the easiest of characters for everyone party member to hang out with and where the hero united players out of character, the survivor does so in character.

The Disruptor

The Hero can break your tension arcs or force you into using overpowered monsters, the High Roller can risk party-strategies and is not very well equipped for sudden twists and the survivor can make your game very panicky and long winded. The ‘worst’ one however and the true “that guy” of them all is the disruptor. They  will always be there in any fantasy game and their goal is to break your story. Where the other 3 classes try to follow the game’s story the disruptor actively tries to make your adventures NOT about what the DM planned. Rogues and Bards are by far their preferred classes, but they also Barbarian. Disruptors rarely play humans, they like to play races like Orcs, Goblins and alcoholic Dwarfs. Their backstories are loaded with vices, be it ale, women or recreational herbs, gambling or a knew crazy thing they invent themselves.  Regardless if their character is a rogue or not .. they always have skill points invested in Sleight of Hand (which is pickpocketing) and the law means about as much to their character as the DM’s will to the players. They are extremely quirky and quite cartoonesk. I DMed for a goblin named Scruffy ones, who lost all sense of reality after he fell in some sort of hallucinogenic potion as a result he had a pet he named Ugly Batstard.. a bat that didn’t exist. Within the first two minutes of the campaign he walked over to a table with the bulkiest dude and said “Hey Ugly Batstard” get your fat ass off, Chaos was born. In another campaign there is a guy who plays a chicken, he robbed a store quite early in the game.

(Sam Riegel is THE Disruptor)

The disruptor type player is the one who enjoys the game the most though, come high or come low rolls, the disruptor is the player who is always entertained. The disruptor lives for the RP using it to act out like they can not in real life. They don’t play to win, they play to break some rules and have fun doing it. If you as a DM describe “a tavern and a man sitting , he is reading a treasure map of sorts scratching his stubbles with a dagger while he has a cloak that seems to fancy for him,” the disruptor will ask ‘who else is there?. If you say ‘some random goblin by the name of  Skurft the disruptor will go talk to Skurft. If you say no one, they will walk outside to talk to random people there. They do not want to play by the rules and they WILL find way to skip encounters or even complete dungeons. They will cost the DM hours of work by simply, not going to the route you had planned before them and someday they will succeed. Each DM learns about the ‘Illusion’ of choice  trough disruptor type players. Sometimes you only have to make players think they are making a game changing choice. While the rest of the archetypes described play against the game, the disruptor plays against the DM, they want to stump their creativity want to dumbstruck them. A DM drawing a blank is their victory.

Kazuma is 100% a disruptor, so much even that the guy who played that Goblin (and the chicken too)  made him his avatar for about a year. From the moment we get introduced to the man he is a clear and plain disruptor. Sometimes by his own design, like when he choose Aqua to be his weapon in this new world and drags her away from her god status, too random moments where his high luck stat causes things to move in a very unexpected path. ‘I’ll cripple the enemy by stealing their weapon!’ He ends up crippling them by stealing their panties instead. ‘A magical powerful weapon comes onto your path?’ Sell if for money so I can booze a lot. Kazuma feels very detrimental to the story progression of Konosuba, where they plan to stop the Evil Demon king, but Kazuma’s action basically constantly creating ‘side arcs’ and side quest that have to be resolved first.  Because of their massive impact and alterations on the story disruptors often end up becoming a sort of main character of the campaigns they are in. Kazuma again fills this role quite well. They are always deeply flawed characters and I do not think that I need to convince anyone who saw the anime that this boy is a flawed character.

Disruptors unlike most of the other archetypes are relatively more socially outgoing, they like to mess with their friends , they aren’t that insecure about themselves  and they are the most socially capable of all the Player Archetypes, in general. They aren’t necessarily socially strong either though. Disruptors tend to be people who tend to be “bored” in reality , who feel suffocated by having to be normal and that usually does mean they can’t really let themselves go in a bar either. They tend to be a bit more random in real life though too , perhaps being a bit shunned because how strange they can be. The real disruptors can not 100% hide that they are a bit goofy. As a player I myself am a disruptor, you notice I am socially “odd” in real life but when I rp I can let that side out and be myself. I played an heavily Autistic Draenei clumsy in World of Warcraft and I played a pink wearing , singing cheery Sith who claims Friendship is Magic in Star Wars the Old Republic. I like to break the mold. While by their very nature they cause chaos the Disruptor also makes your game so much more vibrant and alive. They make all other classes better at their roles and stronger roleplayers, because they always have to expect the unexpected and they can boost your creativity. They pay close attention to every word the DM says (to use it against them) and really can bring a game-table alive.

Order and Chaos

So even in the limitless world of fantasy we are somewhat bound, by who we are, no matter who we play or where we pretend to be, there is always that part of who we are that we can not truly shake. No matter if I am an kawaii evil space wizard or a dojikko demon girl , I am a disruptor. No matter where my best friend her boyfriend plays his campaigns he will always be a hero. There is a thoughtprocess we can not shake even if we shed ourselves of our limits. There order even in imaginatio and fantasy. No matter who you pretend to be, deep down you do it because of who you are. You can never truly betray yourself and this is why tabletop roleplay will always feel so therapeutic.

While I do think your typical hero does have little self esteem, trough rp he can see that he in fact IS needed. We can rationalise it and say.. he is just needed in this fictional game.. but for the survivor this is much more than a game, it’s an escape they truly need. So a hero can ACTUALLY be a hero in reality, even if it is acted out trough fantasy. A disruptor can shed their shackles , even if it is just for a three hour gaming session. The high roller can proof their intelligence can gets them far, because the numbers he crunches in real life might seem insignificant in the big pile of real life, in the small contained world of D&D his numbers visibly matter. In real life he might , if lucky ,  get a compliment from his boss.. once.. and that’s it, in fantasy he can use that same skill to see numbers explode. He can be himself in a rewarding way. The survivor can get validation, a sense of winning by surviving a game and see their character grow up to be a noble king or queen, their good intentions recognised by npc’s. While arguably an npc is ‘not real’ they still react to the words of the players, they offer them feedback and when Dm’ed correctly they have their own feelings and emotions. The social interaction thusly in a way.. being still real.

We can learn, grow and truly discover who we are through the power of fantasy. Not in the chaos we create by doing our thing but in looking at the order that is left when we take the chaos of both the fantasy world and our own world away. We aren’t defined by our flaws or our quirks, we have those flaws and quirks because of who we are. To deny them is to deny a piece of yourself. So through fantasy  and D&D we can find who we are, not though what we create but trough what we bring to each world no matter the world. While our goals may never really align with one another, even if they seem to directly contradict there is a symbiosis between the four archetypes as well. We all have our roles to play, even our flaws allow our party to shine. No matter who are what you are, you will always contribute to the fantasy of D&D , be it to yourself or to the party! You can discover who you are in your very core and be that person you want to be! That way in fantasy and outside it you can build a stronger character.

Question to my Readers:

Which Player-Class would you be in?

Let me know what class you would be in in the comments. If you still want more OWLS check out Matt in the Hat’s post about Kingdom Hearts right here! His profile picture doesn’t show him wearing a hat though? So is he actually in a hat?! That must be a big hat then!
Tomorrow it’s time for Flow. The subject will be some fantasy Light Novels and some angry melodic music called death metal. While that music is not pink enough for me I will take a careful peak, or even better you guys take a peak for me and tell me how angry the music was! I’m scared! Then come back and tell me if the music is too angry for me! Flow’s blog is here! Be sure to check the Youtube channel as well.
Let’s do that! I am counting on you my little monsters!

A Sunny Sunday: The Sunshine Blogger Award

It’s finally time! About a week ago we we nominated for the Sunshine Blogger award. With lots of social stuff I had to attend as some really sore muscles throughout the entire week it took me seven whole days to get to this.  Once more I would like to thank A Girl and her Anime for the nomination. I have handed the questions to reporter Pinkie Cherryblossom who will hold a short interview.

Thank you Pinkie! Amelia  from A Girl And Her Anime came up with these questions so mad props to her! Would you kindly visit her blog? Since I said “Would you Kindly?”  it means you all are going to have to do it! She writes some pretty insightful stuff as well as some fun reviews. She seems like an amazing person that deserves more followers. Then again she might be an alien mastermind coming to earth trying to charm way to an otaku army, you never know. Yet what are the chances that two of those happen to have the exact same idea and even follow each others blog. So nevermind that I am sure she is awesome! Moving on!

The Sunshine Blogger award has some rules which I will post near the end. I’d say most of you by now have seen these post before now anyway so I am sure you know. Let’s get down to these questions Pinkie if you please take a seat I will ask us the questions Amelia came up with. Even though she tagged 11 bloggers the first question she came up with seems to be made JUST for us! So thank you for that one!
Question number one is…..!

If you were a Pokémon, what sort of Pokémon would you be?

I wish I could say I was a Sylveon..It’s all about love and that is really big for me, and with a lot of pink and cute ribbons it is totally my style. It’s a bit of my spirit animal. However my friends always call me Pancham, because it’s a Panda. It has become a meme on how pure my mind is, I never understand sex jokes, I never get inuendo and I am honestly not all that interested in the physical stuff to a point of not at all. To my friends amusement I always seem to miss any lewd moments as well. If we are watching an anime, the moment I get up there will be a risque scene, when I get back the scene is over.  When two friends are making out.. I get distracted by a butterfly passing outside and completely miss it. One night a friend was joking and asking ‘What if Pinkie does see something lewd? Will the universe explode?’ He wanted to put something on his tv but at that exact moment the batteries of his remote control were drained. That’s when I became the ultimate Panda. So my Pokémon would have to reflect that as well. I really do feel like I would be a fairy-type though so lets say I am a regional form Pancham that is a Fairy-Psychic type (A nice counter part to the dark-fightingy type, pangoro grows into)  also to reflect I really like Kawaii stuff but also to play mind games with people.I would have pixilate as an ability.. because I’d love to make normal stuff cute and I could still show my love throughout the move Return that way!
That is a move that deals more damage if the Pokémon loves it’s trainer a lot. If I like you well enough I will fight super hard for you, so it seems like a great fit.

Do  you play video games? If so what have you been playing recently?

Well will not cheese this one and say I have been playing Pokémon Let’s Go, Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Ultra Sun… I do but those are all like stuff I normally talk in this blog about. What I have been playing most recently is Ducktales Remastered. Ducks are some of my favorite animals. When I was just a little girl, I asked my mother what will I be? She sighed and just put on Disney. Ducktales was one of the first TV shows I ever loved. To this day I have fuzzy memories and I ADORE the 2017 remake. Because I was a total dojikko (a clumsy girl)   when I was young, because it would turn out there was something wrong with, I never really liked playing outside. It would always end up with me falling from or into something. If that didn’t happen I would get stuck somewhere. It was stressful. So my parents decided to buy me a NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) with Super Mario Bros 3 and Ducktales as starting games. Mario 3 was nice, but I was in love with Ducktales. It was Shovel Knight, 25 years before Shovel Knight and it was the game that turned me into a gamer. Like a lot of games it has gotten a remake that I played with a friend once (at their place) but now it is being pulled of the market and going away for ever. So shout out to Kurtis for gifting me this one!

What is your favorite colour: Any particular reason why it’s your favorite?

Pinkie’s favorite colour is pink! I bet you didn’t see that one coming if you have ever been to my blog. Pink has a deeper meaning to me though then just being cute. I never grew up very girly, due to my faulty build the other girls and I grew apart, as my lack of grace resulted in me not really liking the stuff they liked and feeling happier with a controller in my hand. I could exert an amount of control over my actions in games I lacked in real life.  So I became a bit of a tomboy/loner/geek with teenage mutant ninja turtle shirts and the likes in an attempt to at least belong somewhere.. like being that girl that is one of the guys but who was never accepted as one either and a lot of bullying ensued .. mostly because I moved so weirdly . Itt took me many years to find that out and just around the time I was finally becoming me around when I was 22. I started to experiment with pink clothes. Around that same time I got very sick, my muscle issues seemed to tax my heart now as well. We didn’t exactly know what was wrong so I had to visit a lot of hospitals At the time I had a pink pyjama and pink bathrobes . In the hospital it’s not that hard for you to feel like just a number or patient X. I wasn’t at one ward each time I was at different places so it even felt more like that. It very much looked like there wasn’t going to be a future for me at all at that time which resulted in a bit of an existential crisis that I would die and no one would remember, that I would be a person that is truly gone straight away. Yet I got a bit better, a medicine was found that helped me greatly.  Doctors a lot more positive began to refer to me by my super pink look, calling me Pinkie. I developed a persona alongside it as a coping mechanism which turned out to be much closer to my actual core self.. but not as afraid and held back by the bullying i received in the past. It represented my repressed self, my true self and ever since that time I connect pink to the strength to be me the freedom to be me.

What is your favorite thing to do during summer?

Sorry about the long answers before this one! Amelia sure picked her questions neatly! There was a lot of stuff to tell.  My favorite thing to do during summer is stroll around on a boulevard on the late evening, the sun warming my muscles, the feeling of a vaction you can have while strolling through a place where everything seems to move just a tiny bit slower than it normally would, seeing that bit of heat distortion way ahead towards your destination. Just by the look of the sky being able to tell that tomorrow is going to be another great day The freedom and the level of comfort are great. Shall I go out with some friends for a drink? Shall I buy that cute purse in the window tomorrow. I love all those things , but that toasty summer stroll where everything is still possible is my favorite moment.

Ghibli is obviously very popular , but what movie do you think is the most overrated?

Honestly? I think all of them are at least a bit overrated. I do like them quite a lot but I do find some of them a bit overly artsy as well. They might impress me more than your average film, they might have the stronger messages behind them but I for one prefer to be entertained .
The Wind rises i saw in a premiere for example. With messages what we should not let technology pass us by and creative choices like having all engines be made by voice effects to make them sound more warm and personal is great. I sit there and nod my head going! Good Show that is impressive. When I watch the second Gurren Laggan movie I am not thinking , wow that’s impressive or  that is such a clever allegory. No when I watch that movie I am shouting at my screen. “WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE” , extending my hand to help Giga drill break and in their first movie, when Simon and Kamina Gatai for the first time I am like kicking the floor in a giddy excitement. Ghibli can make me laugh, and it can make me cry but it can never take me on a real roller coaster of emotions. They feel like the Louvre museum of anime. Mad respect to the Louvre.. but when I am in Paris I much rather go to Disneyland

If you could travel back in time, when you travel and why?

Tokyo 1991. The Gameboy has just come out and Satoshi Tajiri will soon talk to Miyamoto about developing the link cable, during which they would talk about transferring insects. A concept that would  lead to development of Pokémon. I plan to go there and steal their pitch! So I can own the Pokémon IP, of course I would still entrust Game Freak with the idea after, but think of all the money I would have and I would be the princess or queen even of Pokémon. Sure I could help the world by altering a historic event but that’s boring!  I am going to be honest, I’d rather be rich than a hero, I deserve some good times as well.

As a the new leader of a country, what is the first law you introduce?

This is a hard one, I could spout some idealistic nonsense that is never going to happen anyway like ‘everyone’ is forced to love each other but this is not enforceable and it would  kill individuality if it works. No I would instead create the ‘my opinion’ law . It’s a harsh one as it would forbid any form of social influencing media from phrasing their opinions as facts.
‘People who can’t play Tracer should be shot … would be an illegal titel for your post. ‘I think people who can’t play Tracer should be shot’  would be fine. A lot of negativity in this world comes from big youtubers saying something is bad, convincing people their is only one correct opinion, if creates conflict and division. When we forbid people to claim their opinions as factual and make them say that this is only their opinion, it is much harsher to cause harm to anyone.  Don’t believe in a non-binary gender system? Saying “there is only males and females is hurtful’ hearing ‘In my opinion gender IS binary’ might be disappointing but is never hurtful. Both offender and offensee can realise there are two sides to this coin. We can learn to respect each others opinions because they are forced to be spoken out as such. A single opinion never has the power to change you, you can however choose to heed the opinion. So gone with the Count Dankula’s in this world and goodbye to “you are stupid and should die”  In my nation you’ll read “I think you are stupid and should die instead’ It already stings less, and over time maybe we can fix this weird ass Political Correct purgatory we are creating for ourselves.  and actually start being ourselves rather than our newly invented emblem or classical stereotype. If we know our enemies are just giving their opinon, we can hug them better.

Have you been reading anything lately?

I’ve been reading the Pokémon Adventures Manga as well as a bit of Is This A Zombie? It’s been a while since I read an actual good book. I’ve been trying to read Dan Brown’s origin but I don’t have a lot of positive things to say about that one. I’ve also been reading the D&D 5th GM manual and player handbook a lot! Those are technically books.  Finally I have been reading all of your blogs, they are all amazing, yours is even a little better than that of my others readers but that is a secret between us two okay?

Tell us about your favourite film

I actually have two. My regular answer to what my favorite movie is would be.  Catch me if you can.   I love the story of the young con-artist pretending to be a pilot, lawyer and doctor. Dicaprio portrays Frank Abagnale perfectly.  Tom Hanks playing the FBI agent who is after him is done exceptionally well, I root for both sides I watch the movie. It’s such a compelling story with a great soundtrack, stellar acting and basically anything a girl can wish for in a good movie. It’s definitely my favorite good movie and if you haven’t seen it yet you should definitely check it out.

My REAL favourite movie however would have to be Tommy Wisseau’s the room. The BEST worst movie ever. It is such a cringeworthy watch each time, yet it has become so much more than just a film to me.  I crossplayed Wiseau, I met people because of the movie, I went to special theaters, I carry plastic spoons when I see it. Whenever I see a small dog I go “hi doggie” even if I actually speak dutch. It gave us jokes inside our group of friends. We are even considering organising “tommy con’ It will not be an actual convention, it will just be fans of the movie gathering in a park.. dressed in a suit, tossing american footballs around. For those who don’t know what the Room is? The Room tells the story about Johny, and all American man (with a bit of an accent) who gets cheated on by his wife when his promotion falls trough. There are some other plothooks like a mother in law with cancer, which is never addressed, a  young boys issues with drugs, which isn’t really addressed or rounded out, characters appearing and vanishing from thin air… and random people who don’t live there having sex on the couch. There is a lot of spoons hidden in the movie as well as well as tossing the football. it is atrociously bad and almost unwatchable and I love every minute of my own.. and the friends I watch it with suffering.  James Franco made a movie about how bad this movie is called the disaster artist and that one was just as great.  All the stories surrounding The Room, make it something greater.

Put your music on shuffle. What are the first three songs to play?

My father was a musician and he always tried to force his music onto me, I never rebelled much as a teen, but I kinda rebelled to music in general,. Now I mostly listen weeaboo music or geek music. I never play any pop music or anything.  So I will just share the last tracks I listened trough videos.

And one bonus song! Because it started playing right after and I felt bad in leaving this one off!

If you were to suggest an anime I had to watch, what would you recommend?

Way too known to be a proper suggestion would be Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, it’s my favorite anime ever by a landslide. A giga drill breaker caused landslide, that one is just so friggin amazing I have to actively try not to soil myself in excitement. However because it’s that amazing I think everyone in the world already knows about it and follow the Gospel of Kamina and Simon so the thing I am gonna recommend is…..
Selector Infected Wixoss.

A slightly more obscure 2014 anime about cute girls battling with cards to get their wish granted.  If you win 3 card battles you get your wish granted, if you lose 3 you’ll lose your wish forever as well as the little buddy that dwells inside your main card.Yet no one knows the true and dark secrets about this card battle game. The anime starts out incredibly slow but once the story starts rolling you have an extremely dark story that brings Madoka and Yu-gi-oh together  in a grim tale. Do not expect a happily ever after when you start this one because this goes in the shadows, this isn’t cute girls playing a children’s card game… this is some serious doodoo. The characters are nice and though nothing to special they work and you pelted with a million of them . If you like Madoka, and if you like to a slower moving story filled with intrigue and mystery, with the pay off mostly in the later half of the series, then this is a series  you should watch.

The Nominees!

Now I have to nominated 11 others bloggers to answer my questions and hand them this award. Honestly tracking down he wants a nomination or who has been nominated has become way to much work so I just picked those who I really want to ask these questions  too and those who deserve a little sunshine. And the Nominees are!

I know this is 12 but I am pretty sure Mallow or someone on this list went on a hiatus. so it should be fine! Congrats guys! You have been nice for me, provided me some neat content, impressed me or all! of the above!

The Rules

Now there are 5 rules , with me completely ignoring one because I do promoting my stuff on others blogs.
Rule number 1 Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their site so people can visit their website.
(Feel free however to ignore my entire nomination if you don’t want to to the award thing. I mainly picked some blogs I liked and which I felt would answers my questions in a funny way, could use some love or I have really seen working hard on their blog in the past few weeks, you wont have seven years of bad luck or something for not doing it)
Rule Number 2:  Answer the 11 questions your nominator, that would be me, asked in your post.
Rule Number 3 : Nominate 11 others bloggers and write up 11 new questions for them to answer.
Rule Number 4: Notify the nominee by commenting about the nomination on one of their posts.  (I linked recent posts of everyone so you get a notification rather than me going of topic in your comment box)
Rule Number 5: Display the Sunshine Blogger logo and list the rules!
Now for my questions, I made them a bit harder than your regular “what is your favorite” anime.  Just to see what kind of folks you actually are . Have fun!

The Questions

1. Is your blogging personality true to yourself or have you made some changes in the way you present yourself?
2. If you HAD to choose between the following which option would you pick? -Grant everyone in the world one year of perfect happiness.  -Grant your best friend in the whole wide world a lifetime full of happiness? Motivate your answer.
3. Do you still have a childhood toy you kept? If not which one do you regret giving up?
4.What do you like LEAST about our lovely blogging community?
5. You have to swap two main characters from (anime) series around.. for example Naruto and Goku… who would you choose and which of the series would you want to watch more.
6. If I gave you 50 dollars , (US)  what would you buy from it? You HAVE to spend it.
7. You have to direct a tv commercial for yourself, how would it go?
8. You had some time and money to spare to make a commercial for ME, how would that go?
9. Ranger, Bard, Paladin, Fighter, Rogue  Wizard, Druid or Cleric! What would be your class, (not your favored D&D class) define yourself as one of these classes.
10. If you are a trading game card, which trading card game would you be in and what would be your effect?.
11. If you could run any other blog site for a week? Which blog would you choose and why?

This finishes my biggest post so far!  Remember participation is by choice , no need to actually do this if you do not want!  Don’t want to participate in the sunshiny goodness, or did you not make my list? Let me get to know you and answer up to two of these in the comments .

Order and Chaos 3: The Terrible Rykk

Welcome back my little monsters, to my fanstory named Pokémon Order and Chaos. Based on the Pokémon D&D game I organise.
In the last installment I introduced we met the full on team. Scarlett the silent woman, Nils and Luther the Doomsday priests, Sue and William the priests of C’ra, the god of this world and Colvill, the always hungry blacksmith.  Having selected their starter Pokémon , people were gearing up for a battle with their rivals, though Luther passed, after he saw a historical figure from his world, Lorekeeper Zinnia!
Have you forgotten what happened in the last part?  You can click here!
If you want to read this story from the very beginning, use this link!

The birth of Quilin.
Sue readied her Aipom for her first battle, she nicknamed it Mr A. Zinnia being awfully formal readied herself for battle by sending in her Whismur named Aster. As soon as the battle begins Sue immediately tells Aipom to go for a sand attack. Aster lets out a whimper as the sand reaches its eyes. Blinded it tries to use it’s echoed voice ability, which aipom shields itself from by flipping over the starter table they were just both upon. The final pokéball ralling on the floor and rolling away distracts Aster long enough for Aipom to get in close as it began to tickle the little pink crying bunny with its tail. Aster’s defences began to weaken as it began to giggle from laughter. “Aster it’s close hit it with a pound’ Zinnia yelled towards her Pokémon, the little creature still all teary eyed from the sand could however not land a clean hit, not giving the aipom much more than a shoulder pad. “Mr A straight ahead let’s cripple it even further! Sue and Aipom went on to systematically cripple the creature so hard, that it was just continuously laughing by the tickles, occasionally tossing some sand around.
Eventually Zinnia just gave up as Aster could not even land an impact. The creature hugging Zinnia’s leg as she recalled it. “Why did you not attack it? ‘ Zinnia asked to the priestess of C’ra. “Well I didn’t really want to hurt it … like I mean.. the sand kinda hurts..but at least it’s not injured right?.  Both Luther and Zinnia realised at that time that Sue just took her down, and won a Pokémon battle without causing any injury. Who was this girl? People of Wu-Qu should not know this much about pokémon. This statement was made awfully clear by William’s battle, the poor priest calling out for the opponents sandygast to be attacked, but without naming any attack as he simply did not know what it could do. He never bothered to read any guides to pokemon battling as he felt it would only contribute to using pokémon as a weapon and with the right communication they could still rise to the top.In this case he could not. Williams opponent, at least had the sense to learn some basic ghost type moves and in finding out Sandygast could use astonish, William was defeated by a super effective attack.  His opponent was a pale young man with black clothes and some dark makeup on, with a patch of a beedrill on his leather coat. “Nothing personal kid” would the boy , much younger than William, say upon his victory. Unsurprisingly Nils took the victory in his battle, using his houndour to bite down on Poliwags lips, the poor tadpole was in too much pain to use it’s watergun effectively causing his opponent to surrender. Colvill won his battle as well, not because he used his Growlithe that well in the battle against the nerdy girl in swimming attire. But because he scared her krabby into surrender by constantly making remarks on how delicious it was,. Stating his recipes he knew for Krabby legs the pokemon eventually just fled back inside it’s trainers pokéball.  Marina, straightened her striped swimsuit covered by a jacket  and crossed her feet, causing her tall boots to curl up a bit, she looked vulnerable and embarrassed at the loss.
Like Luther, Scarlett never battled, her tactical analysis made her notice she did not have a lot of chances at victory with a type disadvantage. Her opponent an elegant man with stylish red hair and a curled moustache by the name of Hellsandre did not want to fight her either, claiming that a fight with type advantage would not have been honorful either, but this chosen pokemon fueled his soul. After their fight, the team got back together to choose a leader. Without too much objection Sue was elected as a leader, having shown the most skill and knowledge about Pokémon. Only Luther objected stating he would rather take the spot as the father of the group. However Colvill could not grasp the concept of a metaphorical father figure, so eventually the group settled on Sue, who had the benefit of knowing the region somewhat better.  Sue dubbed the team with the name Quilin, a mythical creature of this region that protects the wise kings, saying it would be their patron to become a pokémon master. It was also quite associated with C’ra. ‘Now as my first mission as a leader, I order Luther to take lead of the party while I go catch some Pokémon, we will meet up at the gym? Okay? Right Bye’. Without waiting for much of a response Sue took the gear Azalea offered her and wandered out on her own, leaving her group a bit baffled. However since Luther planned in looking into this new drug, he decided that a chipper looking priestess might not be well suited for gaining information as well…. wait..could she possibly know?

The winning trainers of Quilin

Onto the streets
Azalea had arranged for everyone to get a hand full of pokéballs, and some starting cash  he also gave both ghost trainers a floppy disk. When played on a computer it would display a tutorial on how to learn the move “Hidden Power Bug”  The leader of this town, Hobart, used normal or dark types, depending on what roulation you fought in was all that was told. This way they would at least have a way to hit him, if they ended up on the normal roulation.
After bidding their rivals goodbye for now the group ventured out onto the streets.  Luther had whispered to Zinnia before, who said she was here.. because she had to return someone to her world, in a whisper conversation so silent no one even had a clue it took place. Once more exposed to the dystopian feeling of the city Luther felt a shiver from his spine.  Colvill having been born in Rathole town sniffed his nose and was super cheery! “Woah the upper level! I don’t go here a lot! Let’s go to my hovel on level lower and we’ll eat.. then I we can do that thing that the blue man wants us to do. “Father” Luther stated. “Where? “ Colvill pulled his giant hammer looking for his zombified father. “I hope you got some food for the brain in your apartment Colvill.  Luther said with a tone of disdain in his voice “My mouth eats not my brain” would be the reply the man got. As Colvill guided them to the elevator that would take them to the lower part of town, a converted subway system, guards blocked their way. “Halt citizens, this area of the city is currently quarantined, investigation has shown  the creator of Rykk is on this city level. Pending his arrest and execution the upper city is closed of to prevent traveling. We expect the investigation to wrap up within seven days. Until then you can rent a room at the pokemon center. If you do not have money you will be forced to sleep on the streets. Attempting to use the elevators will lead to immediate execution.’ With his lines said, the guard immediately tuned out of attention towards the group as if he did not care. “Can trainers help with the resolve of this investigation” Nils asked the man. “Only if it doesn’t interfere with Neo Aether investigations, obstruction of justice will be met with…. “ the man was interrupted by Nils. “Execution.. yeah yeah we know’ The guard gave a nod and then tuned out again. William spoke ‘I do not think we should interfere with the law, after all it was C’ra’s wish that we respect her laws,  I have faith in our law enforcement. ‘ Luther sighed annoyedly as his tentacool tentacles bellowed around his arms. “I do not plan to spend my money on a forced overnight stay, nor do I wish to waste 7 days of my life waiting, I don’t have as much years as you left William. Also this law enforcement you trust are the same guys who just made Colvill murder some prisoners for a simple analyses.’ Luther looked around at the group ‘Colvill and scarlett, you like a bunch of ruffians which would be into drugs, go find some shady guys sitting in a corner and ask if you can buy some Rykk, me and Nils will do the same. William you go wait by the pokemon center. ‘ The 72 year old man sounded rather cold and commanding, his statement clearly making sense based on their appearance, yet William took an issue with this. Luther explained it to him. “Well clearly Scarlett is to calculating to risk going alone, some may call that cowardice but she would always justify it by telling she is surviving. Covill doesn’t have the ….  cranial capacities to do a task that is as complex as this. I have been a substance abuser in my world, I know how to procure things, and Nils is great at shadowing. You as a priest are only a bother to this task. After a whole lot of nagging, William eventually caved as the group began to execute the plan.

With the upper level locked off, the gym is inaccisble and Quilin is a prisoner in this city.

An unusual drug
While William wandered through the streets of Rathole time by himself, he was fascinated by the city, he found a boy that was trying to kick it’s lillipup for not peeing fast enough. “Stupid dog, I want to watch Mikki on the billboard pee or I will kick you so hard until pee comes out!. William tried to use his gastly to stop the boy, by using a ghost type move named lick.. a move he was told about after his disastrous match. The lick phased right trough the boy… but it was enough to scare him off , as he ran of yelling some sick priest wanted to kill him. The noble man decided to hightail it out of there and so he ran like his life depended on it.
Meanwhile Scarlett and Covill were looking for a shady salesperson, which they found… A LOT of them.  One guy in particular interested them, he was in a crevice, where according to the signs, in the old world a ATM would have been. On cardboard he would have written a name “Swords and Co”. ‘That looks pretty shady to me’ Scarlett said.  ‘There are a lot of shadows indeed’ Colvill.. somewhat agreed. ‘Hey sir..psstt.. do you have some Rykk’ Scarlett said rather bluntly. ‘I do not , and that question would have gotten you killed if you had asked it to anyone else… people will sell you to Aether for just a single chip! ‘ The shady man grinned revealing teeth painted one red one white, like the edges of a poker chip. After the governments began to collapse, money become worthless, rather than creating a new currency Aether had chosen to replace it by a preexisting one what was fairly practical to carry around  and shared more or less the same worth in the entire world. Poker chips.
‘We are just trying to help Aether’ Scarlett said once more. ‘That will even get you killed faster Madre’  the man winked at her. ‘I can sell you some info to a green trainer like you, but it wont come cheap. ‘Then we will look elsewhere.. and if you try to kill is.. I will show you Hannah is a slut who will kiss your mouth’  Colvill spoke, making it very obvious that Hannah was his hammer. ‘At least your guy speaks the language of the city miss’ the stranger said bidding them goodbye. Scarlett, remembered how her town used to be , when her father was in control. Such a happy place, but everything changed when Neo Aether took over forcefully.

The Swords and Co salesman did not want to kiss Hannah

Nils saw as Luther was skipping just about every single shady salesman. ‘Are your eyes getting this old or is there something you are not telling me’.  The faceless man looked at the tentacruel cowled man who began to laugh ominously. “Nils my dear brother, Scarlett and Colvill are only the pawns to create a distraction, you know my past, the best way to find a dealer is not by finding them directly, you find their customers. Luther looked for people behaving oddly under the influence of something, as he suddenly saw a man dancing spastically.  “I believe we have found our victim.’ the Abyss prophet spoke as he approached the man menacingly, but in his last few steps it seemed like he let his age catch up walking like a super frail old man.’Hey can you help me.. I need a fix…but my old dealer… Neo.. they clipped him…..you know a guy right? ….If you tell him where to find him… i’ll even get you a shot.. as a thanks..I really need it man.’  Luther played the part briljant how could he not, the man before him was the man he had been all those years ago when his modeling career had ended, when he saw age in the mirror, he took drugs to forget. He became a shell of a man, until Kyogre appeared to him in a vision and told him he should send his twisted sick world to the abyss, the gave him the strength to find a new cause. To end the world and wash it’s sins away, and this world had a lot of sins.  The druggy told him if he really needed a fix, he should head over to the alleyway behind the place that sells smoked Rattata. “If you don’t come back with my Rykk I’ll … I’l.. ne…ne…..ne…..never… gonna… give…. never….gonna give…’ The guy suddenly began dancing even more frantically as his eyes and nose began to bleed, brain matter leaking from his nostrils confirmed this man was dead. ‘That drug sure blew his mind’ Nils said jokingly. ‘That kind of humor is even older than us Nils’ Luther said while searching the body, for some needles or powders or empty variants but he had nothing. All he had on him was a busted cassette deck. ‘I know where go go Nils.. follow me from a distance’ the oldest of the two said, while heading to the alleyway behind the Smoked Rat butchershop. There Luther found a man in a yellow jumpsuit. “I need it.. I need some Rykk’ Luther began playing his role again, the man looking at him observingly. ‘Sure thing Bro… but here’s the deal…”  the man in yellow said as he tapped his Pokéball and a Poochyena came out. ‘First time new customers use in front of me! Just so I know you are no phoney’ . ‘Sure thing I need it’ Luther continued playing, he would have to commit for now, hopefully he would not die like the other..but otherwise it would prevent Nils with answers, the man also held an uzi so he was at a disadvantage here.  ‘Ten chips then homey’ the man in yellow said as he handed Luther a cassette deck. Luther handed over the coins, put the plugs in his ears and pressed play, hoping the cassettes were not just a smuggling mechanism, the dancing made this the most plausible thing for now. A female computer generated voice began to sing, a dreadful eighties style song, a real ear worm. “He will know I am not a Rykk user, I used it wrong’  the priest thought to himself, but then he noticed there was a bird’s song in the background as well. and suddenly his mind was freed , feeling he could have a million thoughts at the same time, Luther felt extremely euphoric, suddenly he saw this world end in a thousand ways. He would fulfill his promise to kyogre, he would never let his god down. He fell on the floor with a massive smile.

Luther’s sight began to blur as he heard that sweet bird’s song.

Next week, we will find out what happens to Luther. Will Quilin be able to find out who is responsible for Rykk?  Will William even make it to the Pokémon Center safely, and what’s with this mysterious bird song?! These questions will be answered in fourth installment of Pokémon Order and Chaos. Until then stay pink!

Order and Chaos 2: Four priests and a blacksmith

Hello there my little monsters, welcome back to another installment of my fanfiction work “Pokemon Order and Chaos” , the second part of this series, Welcome to Wuqu, you can find by clicking on the name or by opening the fanfiction tab on the homepage. In the last episode we saw two priests of Alola, leading Team Oblivion travel to the “world of chaos’ where another criminal team.. or the very world they live in have to be stopped, in order to protect the regular Pokémon world.
But this new world was very different then their own, humans and pokemons are enemies rather than friends, with the ones people own being nothing more than tools. Professor Azalea took Luther and Nils into a waiting room, saying their new team members would be there shortly.

A rough wake-up call
William woke up from drooling on his own hand, his head hurt, what happened? Where was he even? The blond man in an ornate black robe looked through the room, it looked like a simple bedroom, in the middle there was an old tv sitting on a carpet a weird device was sitting in front of it, to his direct north there was a desk with a computer to his east there was a plant and some pokemon-dolls for some reason, and to the north east there was a door, with a keypad. Was he a prisoner? Who would capture a priest of Kōngjiān? He was a noble servant of the goddess C’ra, the lady of rainbows, though other fates in this world honoured the same god they all worshipped a different aspect of her, his one focussing on her kindness and goodness. He was a noble man, that never got in any trouble. Suddenly William began to remember, he received an envelope that he had been selected to be a Pokémon trainer,  tributes from every city would be selected and pitted against each other in teams, and the winning team would be welcomed into the safe zone. He did not want to join in, but with Neo Aether.. he guessed there was little choice. Deducing the envelope must have been laced with a knockout agent this feeling was now more enforced then ever. That was the exact moment William found out he had been handcuffed to the bed. ‘What in C’ra’s name is going on?’ William shouted out in frustration, at that time the tv began playing a message.
‘Welcome to the wonderful world of Pokémon, you can call me professor Azalea and this is a Pokémon’ The professor being displayed on the screen took out a white headed  creature with a greenish body, holding a big flower over it’s head. The professor then continued his message. ‘Soon you will receive your very own Pokémon well most of you will, I have 6 tables with 3 Pokémon each, each team.. you will find your teammates as you continue.. can send one member to one table to pick a pokemon from. Currently there are 24 participants, so one team will have no pokemon, so it is with great sadness that i have to announce, the last team to arrive will be………executed.’  With that the message cut out, William sprang up from his bed, he had to escape this room and he had to do it now!

The easy way out
In a room next to William’s Colvill looked at the same message with a wide array of feelings. Most of them a hunger for food. His passion for edibles was reflected by his posture. He was a large greasy man , with disheveled hair and a poorly groomed beard. He smelled of sweat and cinders, the scents of his forge, a place that had been recently burned down by some circus freak fucks, who apparently were pissed at him for making weapons for Neo Aether. He lost his wife when he lost everything else… but that was when he got the invite to become a trainer and earn a better life.  Right after that he woke up here, perhaps he should not have licked the letter. Covill tried to put things together in his head, executed was a bad thing right? So that means he has to get out of the room fast? Well Colvill was pretty sure he could, and without much thinking he stepped out of the bed, noticing he was cuffed to it he lifted up the bed and slammed it on the floor until it broke. ‘There we go, I hope there is a cafeteria in the next room’ Colvill said to himself, walking to the door he noticed it was locked. Without even looking at the keypad Colvill walked to the plant, he picked it up and rammed open the door. Unfortunately for him it was something of a walk in closet, filled with weapons and armors. He found a nice hammer, but armorwise it was all leathers and kevlar and the likes.. he did not like that. So instead he used his weapon to tear up some of the weapon lockers, strapping some of the shrapnel to his body as very improvised plate armor. ‘Now this is an armor hohoho, Colvill said when bashing open the next door, not even realising it was never locked. In the next room, two guards were patrolling, by the looks of the explosives strapped to them, they were some of the many neo Aether forced labourers,  the room had been set up so there were many routes to sneak past, Colvill just smiled and readied his hammer.

Four, five…. where’s the last one ?
Luther was  playing with his skrelp knife, while waiting for someone to pop out of the vaults, he saw Azalea’s message on the tv a bit earlier, if he would get killed for the failure of others, he would drag them all along to the abyss. Loud screams came from the vault labeled number five, the others were remarkable silent. Suddenly the sound of metal hitting metal became deafening as door five began to twist its shape. But it was not Colvill who met Luther and Nils first, Vault number three opened. A young woman, wearing a black bodysuit and a bandana as crimson as her hair walked out of the vault, wielding two pistols clearly a set as their looks where mirror images of each other. Without saying anything, she sat on a chair furthest away from the priests as soon as she saw the six finger print system of the final door. ‘And who might you be my daughter’ Luther began to her. ‘Not your daughter’  was his only reply after which the woman went silent again, covering her ears at the annoying sound of Colvill destroying his vault door. Finally he was successful, the blacksmith stepped into the room looking at Luther and Nils. ‘Hey you guys look weird, do you know where we can get any food?’ was Colvill’s first line to the ‘former’ Team Oblivion members.
‘No my son, but I bet if we get out of here, there will be food aplenty’  Luther spread his arms as he said this in a welcoming motion, to which Colvill just looked confused. ‘Dad? Didn’t you die like a long time ago?’  Luther’s eight eyed masked stared back coldly. ‘Ah i see , you have not been blessed with intelligence but with great strengths, No i am not your father my son, I am Abyss Prophet Luther, but you can call me dad if you like the same goes for you lady with the rag.’  Without looking the woman replied ‘Scarlett and I won’t call you dad’.
Colvill joined in ‘I am Colvil and no  my dad is my dad , you are not my dad, he’s dead…so I think calling you dad would be very confusing’ ‘Suit yourself my son, I am just happy to see these beautiful children I will share this journey with. At that moment William escaped his vault, seeing Colvill’s bloodied hammer, two ominous looking priests, and a very annoyed looking woman, he prayed to C’ra their sixth member would be something the goddess would smile upon.  Yet the sixth vault did not open and no sound could be heard. ‘Perhaps we should retrieve our sixth member, it may not be conform the rules but I am very allergic to being executed, I think none of you take it well either huh’ Luther once more took the lead in the conversation, which immediately went dead when Colvill began hitting the unopened vault with his hammer.

he mysterious Sue
Sue was just laying in her bed enjoying her music, she noticed an old guy pop up on the tv earlier which showed her a floette, which was nice but she was listening to her music and it was just at the good part. She was chained to the bed, but selected to be a trainer. They would come get her when it was time, this bed was more comfortable as the beds she had in her Fǎnwùzhí order of C’ra.  They were called the tech priests. They revered C’ra for her wisdom and her ability to promote evolution in mankind in the form of advancing technologies and new lessons to learn each day. Her walkman was one of her most precious possessions , the lyrics people made and the sounds people made really gave her an insight in humanity as a whole. And it kept her ears warm as well.
Suddenly Sue noticed 5 strange figures popping over her head… well four, the fifth was clearly a Kōngjiān.’Can I help you’ Sue asked casually. Colvill just grabbed her while telling, we need to get out of here fast.  William was kind enough to give the white haired lady with emerald eyes a weapon, but it was to late for her to get an armor, so she was stuck in her black and white priestess robes with gold painted walkman still half on her head. The group held her hand against the scanner as they did their own, exchanging names in the process. Unlike everyone else Sue did take up the offer to call Luther dad.
In the next room professor Azalea was waiting, with 3 Pokéballs on each table, even though Sue coasted it, it appeared they were the first. William however decided this was a good moment to speech. ‘You can not just execute the final team , that would be monstrous, like Colvill here killed your guards, was that worth it?  How can you be this evil , I do not want to have anything to do with your organisation’. Professor Azalea signed ‘those guards were criminals on death row, however their guild could not be entirely confirmed so they got offered this task, if they survive, they are pardoned, if you execute them, nothing had changed. They mostly are thieves who steal from the organisation for their own survival, though I can not say I condone the law, I must follow it as must you, the individual is not powerful enough to stop this organisation, and the organisation is much needed to protect us from the pokemon’
Luther interrupted  scientist and said ‘You have made pokemon your enemy in my world we are friends, you have brought this faith upon yourself’.  Azalea scoffed, it was not the people out here, that shot at Ho-oh when it attacked the capital of freedom, it was not Wiliam over here that riled up the beedrill of twisted tree forest to attack everything on sight. When your ancient king of Kalos activated that weapon all those years ago, and nearly wiped Pokémon out of existence, do you still think it’s the fault of the people living in Lumiose today?’ Luther was silenced by the man’s knowledge of his world began to wonder what he got his old self into.

A whole new world to live in.
looked as Sue walking to a table and picking a Pokéball , without even looking she opened it while excitedly shouting ‘I choose you Aipom’ having picked an actual Aipom. He walked over to a table to see if they had any names labeled, perhaps his old eyes where failing him but he could not see. As Sue let her new aipom climb her shoulders, Luther noticed his table had a Joltik, an Inkay and Litwick. As Luther grinned he picked Inkay to be his new starter. Scarlett settled for a Bulbasaur, which shared a table with a Fennekin and a Popplio. Colvill chose a Growlithe which he named Sunny Boy, he would never pick some stupid crab, or some girly plant thingy..though they looked tasty. William picked a Gastley , something he was clearly not very familiar with and Nils settled on a Houndour sharing a table with a Poliwag and an Drowzee.
With his Pokémon selected William confronted Azala again about the executions, whom assured William that in fact there was only three teams and Neo-Aether just wanted to profile how they would help themselves in a crisis, they always did that in case that the trainers would rise up against the state, Aether would already know how they think and deploy countermeasures, a mere safety protocol against rebellion, and something detailed to go with their trainer passport.
William not agreeing with this Modus operandi  noticed a second door opening, revealing another group of six. They all picked their pokémon, William especially noticed the boy named Weiss, wearing a restraining jacket, and all sorts of bugs in his hair , he picked the Joltik as his partner and challenged luther for a battle. Nils rival was a young  boy, about 15 years old, dressed in a “sentai’ cosplay, claiming he thought Nils looked like a villain and it was his way of the hero to defeat him.
Luther however declined his challenge by Weiss, his eye was caught by one of the others, the one the other team had chosen as their leader.
She walked over to the table Sue had picked her Aipom from, nicknaming it Aster.
Luther.. looked at the remarkable similarities. Her eyes shown crimson her hairs as black as ebony kept in a tomboyish model, wearing a burlap cape, that had been outfitted with some dark scales. Wearing short grey shorts held up by a simple red string, and high socks which seemed to hold up a “mega ankle bracelet’  and grey sandals. Weiss kept begging Luther for a battle, but his gaze and ears where fixed on the interaction of the two mysterious women. When the ebony haired lady went to Sue Luther’s suspicions were confirmed. She bowed for the white haired woman while saying “Hi my name is Zinnia would you do the honour of battling me?’

Thus ends the second chapter of this story, in the next episodes our heroes will face their first battle, or well at least some of them, and they will venture out in the streets to find Hobart , the headstrong Hobo, the gym leader of Rathole town. How will they deal with the issues of this new world, and what is up with people of the past showing up? Find out in the next episode!
Remember to stay hydrated, stay healthy but most of all stay pink!
Until we read again!

Order and Chaos 1: Welcome to Wuqu

Welcome to my very own world little Monsters, the world of my Pokémon D&D game. The world of Wuqu. Each week I will talk a bit about the more mature stories of this world of my RP campaign. It is set in a world, that never knew Pokémon, much like our own, but around the  eighties of that world, Pokémon suddenly began appearing. People saw them as monsters and began fighting them resulting in a war between humans and pokémon with many victims on both sides. Eventually mankind was driven to live underground mostly, the Pokémon destroying the world’s climate making it a barren place. The sun shone in forests at times and spots where it’s not supposed to shine, causing the trees to twist , poison types polluted the waters, and fire types created new deserts. When all seemed lost, through the Ultra Space holes that started all troubles a capsule arrived, within it, answers how to build Pokéballs, how these monsters and make them do your will. With resources running very thin, only the major corporations had enough money and means to get these technologies created. These companies banded together and formed Neo-Aether, a now totalitarian world governing institute, trading safety for servitude. No citizens of Aether are allowed to leave their own city, ever, only those selected for the Trials may prove their worth. These trials entail defeating the mayor of 8 cities in Pokémon battles, or more. Those who do so, prove they can live together with Pokémon and will be granted acces to “the safe zone” a remote island where humans and Pokemons live together in peace. Or at least that is what people are made to believe……..

Team Oblivion
However our story does not begin in the region of Wuqu in this brand new world. This adventure starts in the Alola region, one hundred years after the first champion of Alola defeated the Mother Beast. We find ourselves in a sterile white office of the Aether Foundation in Alola, time-storms have been happening recently and Pokémon have started to vanish from the world little by little. Four ominous looking people  stare at a darkened femine shape in the back off an office, sitting in a wheelchair. Their body postures reveal they are all a bit older. One dressed in mostly blue, wearing a tentacool beak as a cowl, with an eight eyed face mask speaks to the shadow. ‘Why have you summoned Team Oblivion, do you not know what we stand for?’ he speaks, his voice revealing he is clearly of high age, yet there is still a deep determination and menacing tone in his voice. He straightens his robes marked with Kyogre-patterns, then straightens his shoulders made of dead tentacools with their tentacles draping over his widely sleeved arms. The woman speaks, her voice sounding quite elegant, though the cracking in said voice also reveal she might be in poor health. ‘I know very well what your organisation stands for Abyss Prophet Luther’ she says while she moves a bit in the shadows. ‘It is why i have specifically  called you’. A second man draped in a black cloak with dark purple elements, and a white faceless mask speaks, barely visible whle in this poorly lit room, he plays with his Darkrai themed pendant and then calmy speaks. ‘How can ending the world help you then, mysterious lady’. The two other priest like figures chuckle. One is donning a bone mask with a very dark brown cloak, he is very broad and muscled, his sleeves inspired by Giratina, the eyes of his skull mask fitted with some tinted glasses in a ghostly shade of purple. Lighter than the one who just spoke.
The other is a much slimmer man, in red scaled robes,  with earthen shoulder spikes, as if inspired by Groudon, his mask also being an earthen slab with some markings similar to that on the red stone. The lady’s heads shift to the Darkrai inspired man and tells him. ‘Well glad you ask Void Prohet Nils, I need you to destroy a world, just not this one’ Even though non can see the woman’s face, all four man know there is a smile on her face,

Team Freak
The woman brushes trough her hair, letting her message sink in with the four. The large man and the slender groudon donned one seem very excitable. “Does this mean we can bring Death?’ says the large man while making a D pose. “And EXTINCTION” yells the red clad, stone masked man. ‘Yes Death Prophet  Griogri and Extinction Prophet Asmodeus, yes you can’
The woman puts on a breath mask for a short moment taking a gasp from it before continuing. ‘I need you to travel to a world on the other side of Ultra Space, we have been aware of an group of people there named Team Freak, by whatever means in that world.. they have found a possibility to breach back into our world with Ultra Space travel, but somehow they end up, back in significant places in history. They are trying to alter our timeline, so that their pathetic world is safe, in order to do so they seem to have wiped Pokémon from our timeline..so I need you to go there and destroy this world or at least that blasted organisation before it kills our world, and given your expertise you will be the right people for the job.’ The shaded figure heads them a folder giving some information, revealing a clownesque magician by the name of Sion Illu to be their leader as well as their logo. A cruel looking clowns face with swirly eyes it’s nose being a diamond of a card game as well as it’s teeth forming the word Freak.
The abyss prophet nods, speaking in a very bellowing voice. ‘You have selected the right tools for the job Aether president, we will be the scalpel that will cut away that is the cancer that you call Team Freak , if lord Kyogre favours me and my brothers, we may even be able to amputated that entire world of existence from the multiverse.’ The man forms a pyramid shape above his head.. as if spelling the letter A. ‘For the Abyss!’  Nils the Darkrai looking one, follows suit but shapes a V. ‘We will send these people to the Void’. The woman chuckles. ‘Good to see you are eager, I have a contact in that world…the world we for now shall label Chaos, A pokémon profesor unaware of my true intentions, he offered to help me in trade for some much needed supplies, I can send two of you on the trainer journey giving you easy access to the world. The two others will have to find another way out. ‘Me and Nils shall take the more cunning route and infiltrate the trainer teams, our brothers here are the less tactical ones and their talents are more suited for the more hands on approach’ says the group eldest. ‘Very well then so it shall be’ replies the woman.  ‘Follow my assistant at the end of the room, they will send you to your location.’
Following their new employee’s orders they follow a man clad in white to a sterile looking room, some strange sounds can be heard from the ceiling. ‘Wait here and follow my instructions’ tells the employee who proceeds to move in an adjacent room behind some safety glass, taking along Grigori and Asmodeus. ‘I will drop them in at another location’ he says. ‘In order for you not to puke your guts out and collapse in an insult I need you to close your eyes right now then count back from 20.’  The man sounds sincere enough while working on some buttons. Luther and Nils don’t feel like throwing up with their masks on, so they decide to follow orders, about the time when their count reaches 3 seconds left, they can hear the sounds of the oceans and they feel their feet sinking deeper into the floor.

Welcome to Wuqu
After the count of twenty both prophets open their eyes and they find themselves on a grimey looking beach, with a derelict mall in the distance. However the beach is not normal, it’s coloured brightly neon yellow with some other colours mixed in. As they wonder about it a voice is providing an answer. ‘We painted that beach like that.. that way the Sandygasts and Pallosands can be spotted right away, they also hate the colour so they tend to stay away.’ The man walks closer, very hunched over, the man still seems of remarkable size, his hair white and long, donning a lab coat over something akin to more traditional Johto outfits, with a twist. He is using a cane to walk with on the top of it a Pokeball, Around his upper arm there is a band with a logo akin to the Aether logo of old world, but this time it has “legs” in the shape of the letter N. ‘Welcome to our wonderful world of Pokémon, welcome to Wuqu, you can call me profesor Azalea. It is nice to see such promising trainers coming to our aid to stop the blasted terrorists, they are terrorising the streets of Rathole town, quite possibly even behind that new drug that has been popping up’ Luther and Nils look at each other, intrigued by how different this world is already and follow the man as he guides them to the derelict mall. In front of the doors there are two man dressed in white, with heavy military equipment on their body guarding the door.Profesor Azalea talks with him showing him some idea and telling him that these are two guest trainers to be.  ‘Oh once you are inside this city you can not leave until you acquire the city’s gym badge. Hobbart , the headstrong Hobo is a kind soul, donating all his income to keep the Pokémon center and hospitals of this city running freely. He lives at the lowest level of this underground mall, with all the other homeless. But first you need a team.’ The priests simply nod accepting their faith and cover with some dignity , this will be interesting and this world is truly sick so it needs to be put out of its misery, is what both priests think. Once inside it’s an entirely different world.
An old woman is on a levitating wheelchair… but rather then wheels it’s operated on dead magnetise.. being made to levitate by passing a magnetic current through them with an old car battery attached to the chair sloppily. One of the poorly welded magnemite corpses falls off as the chair loses balance. Houses are no more then sizes of pop up stores, housing families in spaces not much larger than a single room. Neon lights, advertisements in a old language and new ones ..welded on top. Rattatas are trying to look for scraps of food before being clubbed by a large tattooed man. ‘Wel looks like my family will eat well tonight’ he says after picking up the two oddly shaped skull rattatas. A hologram of a twin tailed girl with long green hair dancing and singing is projected on the ceiling.
People walking with headphones on connected to a square device that plays some kind of old “cassette” like material, although with video hologram options now.  Ruffians huddling up in an ally to relieve one such music enthusiast of their gear… and most likely their life as well by the looks of it, and everyone else ignores it. Profesor Azalea  presses on and walk briskly for a man his age ignoring all the crime and awfulness. ‘This world will be better of in the void’ Nils said while shaking his head as he sees a young boy kicking a Lillipup.
The professor looks at them as he begins to speak once more. ‘All trainers are allowed to carry one active weapon, a “pair” still counts as one… if you carry a second weapon ..or more then 6 pokémon on you.. you are deemed a threat to the state and will be executed, I figure  you have already brought your own so we do not have to provide?’ Both Nils and Luther nod but the latter asks ‘More than six Pokémon do you not have a box system then?’ The profesor shakes his head and reacts in response ‘Nothing like in your world, you can drop off surplus Pokémon at the vault, so if you want to go hunt for a new pokemon and you carry six already take one to the vault preemptively, you can always swap them around and they will be send to your new location once you move. Ah we have arrived at the lab’
The professor opens a door, of  what would seem to have been an old restaurant of sorts before, some tinkered equipment can be seen in the back as he guides them towards a kitchen area that has been converted as well, heavy metal doors with numbers have replaced the coolers, and whatever store was next door has been converted to be a part of it as well. ‘Normally the new trainers will be subject to a test ..but you  use this waiting room to wait for your team members. I just hope they get here in time, feel free to use the tv in this room and take a seat.. do not break any gear though it all belongs to neo Aether… those who break Aether gear will be…’ the professor is interrupted by Luther ‘let me guess executed?’. The professor nods. ‘Your team mates should arrive shortly. My apologies for the hassle, I can not break their rules either.’ Luther and Nils nod, while Luther sits down Nils plays with the tv for a bit.  Only one channel of course, there is a movie on that channel. Three boys are walking down a railroad.

In the next episode episode, we will meet some more noble trainers, joining Luther and Nils on the Pokémon Gym challenge. Will the two doomsday priest be able to elude the group to their true intentions, will they be able to find out more about this Team Freak folks, and what atrocities does Rathole Town hold in store for our upcoming heroes? You will just have to wait and see what happens in the next installment of Pokémon Order and Chaos.
Until then, don’t go starting a dystopian corporate governance thing here..but stay  pink!
Until we read again! If you can’t wait, feel free to leave a like and a comment!
