Gotta Make Em All: Turning Pinkie into a Pokémon

Hear Ye Hear Ye Princess Pinkie has returned with a Pokémon Post

Salutations , Loyal Subjects and Island Guests.  I am a creative writer in spirit, and a concept designer in blood! As a result I often find myself pondering questions like “what if Irina was A Pokémon ” or “What if Indigo was a Pokémon”?  On this blog I answered  these questions. These posts  enjoyed moderate success but never did as well as “less creative” posts.  So I forgot about them for a while.. but I decided to bring this back!  What better way to start with the most obvious omission in my lineup so far! Myself! What would I be like as a Pokémon?!

The Typing of Pinkie

File:Pokémon Fairy Type Icon.svg - Wikimedia Commons

Like the two that have come before me, to design me as a Pokémon we first need to find out what typing I am. My primary typing of course is super easy! It would be the fairy type! Not only is it represented by the colour pink, it also has that whole spirit and cutesie vibe I often try to go for!  If I had the money I would totally be wearing lolita clothing a lot, and fill my house with adorable plushies and sweets and what not!  I love the fairy typing to bits!  From it’s attack esthetics to the way it functions.  I am really afraid of metal things oftenly.. it seems so painful to me, and I am sickly and prone to diseases so a weakness to the steel and poison type makes perfect sense to me. I like to break through guys/warriors types by cuteness and charm so my strength against the fighting type would also be explained.
In general I really like how the fairy type works and I am pretty sure it fits me as well. So obviously I will stick with it! It means I can use a lot more pink in my design.

File:Pokémon Psychic Type Icon.svg - Wikimedia Commons

The second typing is where things get tricky for me! There are a few options. There is a good case for the psychic type, as I love mind games and reading people and in real life I am a bit of a manipulator. Not Persé in the bad sense, but rather than convince people to give me what I want, I’ll be more inclined to convince people they want to give that to me.An example is when I would go out back in the days with friends, I would not tell them I really want to go to club A. I would look at what they want and try to connect that to Club A so their desire changes to align with mine. Mind tricks if you will! Yet there is a bit of a problem!  In general in Pokémon , that is not really how the psychic type works!  It is more about brute mental power and telekinesis, and even though I do believe I can use telekinesis I just have not figured out how yet.. it might not be the best typing to convey this idea of the puppeteer.

File:Pokémon Ghost Type Icon.svg - Wikimedia Commons

A typing that I think would fit this idea much better would be the ghost type!  With moves like Spite, Curse and their being prone to learn moves like Dream Eater and Nightmare fits me a lot better. It also offers me a reason to become a pokémon! I am not the healthiest person in the world. I have come face to face with the limits of my own mortality and I even crossed it once. Part of the reason that I have this blog is to live on, after I leave the land of the living. To leave some ideas and my voice behind and let it reach places it could not travel otherwise. This whole living on metaphor could be a great way to become a pokémon! I one day woke up beside my body but refused to pass on so I became a ghost Pokémon.. not in the somber way but as in a spirit that wants to experience more from this world even though life has already passed me by! An embodiment of Joy de Vivre of loving life and it’s adventure.

Designing Pinkie

Banette (Pokémon) - Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia
Banette

Now that we have established my typing we can move onto the design phase.  A Unicorn Duck Pokémon would be the most obvious choice. Yet I feel that would be a little bit too obvious. I will include some design elements of that in here, but I feel I want to take this design in a bit of a different direction.  My Pokémon Counterpart unlike other ghosts should not feel particularly cursed. She is not sad she is dead.  Rather than that she takes a page out of School Live’s book and rather would deny she is dead. She wants to have more fun and wants to live more! And while that sometimes comes at the cost of other peoples she would want to present things cutely, as it would get things done. I would think a cute Pokémon Name for me would be Vidolly. A basic design content I think that would fit me very well is the idea of a haunted doll.  Kind of like how Banette is a discarded plushie, though kind of the other way around.  Instead of a toy that got discarded and became vengeful, this is a beloved toy that became that host for it’s passed away owner. Bound together by love to give their owner a second chance at “life”

Of course it would be a very princessy doll! Though in canon there might be several variations based on the Lolitha variants. Stuff like Sweet Lolita, Goth Lolita , Punk Lolita and Wa lolita.  Hime Lolita seemed like a logical choice but from a design perspective it looks a lot like Sweet Lolita so I am combining the two. Let’s go with the name Hime-Form Vidolly,  Goth-Form Vidolly, etc. For those who don’t know what Wa form Vidolly would be, it would be something more traditional Japanese. More elaborate versions of Kimono and Yukata like designs. When summoned out of their Pokéball or as a basic attack animation a Vidolly would shoot out shadowing strings almost like a puppeteer which then would form the attack they are performing or hit their enemy to try and manipulate them.

October 2014 – OMG Girls Game!

Vidolly would statistically be around the stat total of Mawile or Absol.. a slight bit higher making it more relevant like their mega Counterparts.  Yet not fully a mega, so somewhere in between.  It would not evolve from or into a Pokémon. A cool alternative idea would be to make it an alternative evolution for Shuppet that needs an item, but I would like to keep this pokémon Genderless if possible.. you know to simulate my Panda-ness! I would prefer if the Vidolly would be static encounters you can find across the world in certain places, after midnight.  It would be a cool capture mechanic that fits the ghost theme. The pokémon would get two abilities based on if you recently changed the clock of your game or not. If you did the ability Vidolly would get is Manipulator, which disables a random move on the target it is switched in against. (Like cursed body but random and not upon hit but upon entry) If you haven’t switched your clock within the past 48 hours Vidolly would get the ability Life Lust, where each move with a secondary effect would heal 50% of damage given instead. IOW all moves with secondary effects turn into leech life.

Vidolly-Hime Form

Pokédex Entries for Pinkie

Gentle on the goods, OK? — Rotom Dex

A good ghost pokémon pokédex entry makes you read it and go “wow, that’s rather dark”  Vidolly’s story is a bit more uplifting but there will be some implications here.  With a very basic entry along the lines of something like Even Death could not take away her will to live, so once the girl took her final breath her life force instead of passing on moved into her favourite doll, wanting to experience life once again and share this joy with others”  It is both a tragic and a good fate! This is a ghost which has gotten a second life rather than something that is defined as “dead”. Sure the second life is as a ghost..but  since a Pokémon still is kinda alive she is also alive!  It will be up for debate, which will be the angle of her secondary angle.  “Scientists can’t agree if Vidolly is alive or dead, her will to live inside an inanimate object baffles scientists everywhere. Vidolly considers herself very much alive and will enjoy life at any cost”

Cloud & Crane ~ Kimono Style Wa Lolita Dress by OCELOT
Wa Style Lolita! Just imagine this as a porcelain doll!

Vidolly, as an unevolving ghost much like Mimikyu, would be a static encounter. Meeting her would be tricky like I said before.  She only shows up at four different places.  The Goth Vidolly would show up at midnight in the ghost tower, graveyard or ghost or dark type gym! Each Pokémon game always has an area like this, a place of mourning or dark energy or something like that.  She will be the most obvious version to find. Wa form Vidolly would show up at more classic locations, something like “the hot springs” , the “japanese restaurant” the “Kimono girl house”. Temples would be a fine location for her as well  or if anything else fails at the entrance of the Pokémon League. It’s the traditional variant so something with a bit of status or mysticism to it. Punk Vidolly is found at a location that is basically the opposite of Wa-Vidolly. She is most likely found in a location filled with technology (as Punk Lolita’s mostly have steampunk designs)  such as the evil team base that has been abandoned after you defeat them. Perhaps something like the Pokémon Mansion from Kanto where Mewtwo was designed.  At worst at the Pokémon lab.. as long as it is not in the started town.. because……….

The version that I identify with, Hime-Vidolly, would be the most tricky one to get.. or the easiest one once you know how.  Because I am a Pokémon player and the ghost princess deserves something special as well, Hime-Vidolly would only show up in the players house after midnight. Now of course this seems like a super easy catch, but it is not!   Not exactly!  You would find a rumor mid way in the game.  The previous owner of my house just vanished without a trace a npc would say.. Now every night I get a feeling something is watching over me.  It would be a hint that to find Hime-Vidolly you need to create a character.. then delete your old save to start with a new character. In other words.. The ghost that possesses Hime-Vidolly is that of the player’s former character. Here the non-gendered character comes into play again as it would work for both a male or female avatar, even though Vidolly will identify as female in all her dex entries and in the anime.  I think it is a nice twist and just enough ghosty darkness to make Hime-Vidolly a fan favourite.

Pinkie’s Role

Vidolly would not be the most offensive Pokémon out there, nor would she be the worst.  She would be a special attacker that focuses on controlling the momentum of the battlefield.  Vidolly uses moves like Sweet Kiss, or Lovely Kiss to confuse an enemy or put them to sleep, or even both. This isn’t  to say she is a flirt but more like a soothing presence people like and find hard to hit. I would replace kiss with hug to make it more clean and in line with the character but these I can assure you would be platonic kisses. From there Vidolly would proceed to use offensive moves like Hex and Dream-eater  on her manipulator set or Moonblast on her  Life-Lust set. Moves like Curse will also show up in her repertoire. As a result she has a very mixed stat pool, slightly on the more bulky side. She’d be fairly similar to Chansey, where she has a LOT of HP! Opposed to Chansey she is better at fighting off physical moves than special moves.  She isn’t as bulky as Chansey though as she will have some special attacks as well. Her physical attack would be lower than even Shuckles or Magikarps.

One of the  Vidolly would excel in double battles. Her Manipulator version could disable a move while with disable she blocks a second one off. Allowing you to gain momentum on your Pokémon. Life Lust Vidolly  is better at single battles. Where she functions as a hard physical wall that can put to sleep anything that switches in. She would work very well on entry hazard teams. Her speed is not great but most Pokémon that know Rapid Spin would start off slower so depending on her calls, she can overcome this by utilising sleep. Encore might be a good move to put on her if you put some speed IV’s into her as she is immune to three typings and because of her high health pool, she rarely gets oneshot. Gengar would be her worst enemy though! In PVE Life Lust Vidolly is without a doubt the better version of the two! It’s healing and high number of immunities make her a great pick up for Nuzlockes as well.  Her special attack stat would be around the 80/90 is area so while not amazing it would be respectable enough to use her!

A final special thing about Vidolly is how she would react to your friendship building mechanics. All modern games have something that builds friendship or lives with Pokémon.  Usually this involves playing (minigames) with them and feeding them. Vidolly would be able to play by herself! A quirk. If you throw a ball in Pokémon Camp in Galar, Vidolly instead of returning it would go off with it and play by herself.. perhaps with other pokémon as well but she would not give you the toys back! If we see the return for Pokémon Amie, and the minigames when you are leveling up with Vidolly you will notice that sometimes  the game plays by itself or your controls suddenly invert. Nothing to major but just something to show you Vidolly is having some fun herself! I honestly think they should do this to more Ghost Pokémon..but now that I am one I’d tell you, I would definitely steal your game.. so I could have more fun!

And that is me as a Pokémon! I As well as create an entire species of Pokémon with it!  I will work on making my bestie Summer into a Pokémon next. She asked once before and then stuff happened and it never happened but now I am ready! If you want to be turned into a pokémon let me know! I will make it happen! What do you think of Vidolly? What would you imagine yourself as a Pokémon to be like?! Let me know in the comments! I will see you all in my next post! Stay Random!

What if my Blog was a Pokémon Game? The Paradise Region is Born

Hear Ye Hear Ye, Princess Pinkie has Returned with a new Pokémon Post

My sweet loyal subjects, as you may know I love theorycrafting and coming up with my own concepts for movies and games! I already designed concepts for about two Pokémon games..but non of them were about me! Now that I am a princess , I think we should change that. Sure we have Alola as a tropical region! Yet there were no gyms! You were the first Pokémon Champion ever.. it did not feel like the big leagues! It felt.. like a vacation! Yet what if I were to make my blog and it’s backstory into a whole new Pokémon Region and Pokémon Game! What would we get?! Today I will answer that question for you!

The Map

First of all we will need a general design for our region .. and that can be tricky! Hoenn has too much water for many while yet other people do not really like the whole circle motion you follow in Unova and Kalos. However Game freak really does seem to love this type of movement as you do it in Galar and Alola as well.. although a bit more disguised and tiered.  Luckily Paradise has gotten a map recently that we can use to give both the game designers as well as the pokémon fans what they like. You see Paradise is a heart shaped island, with the resort entrance lying in the tip of the heart and other things being located on the beaches around it.   The heart of the island is set for the pool area, everything seems to flock a bit around that so for our journey we will make the pool area our Pokémon League.  Since we already had a Hawaiian theme.. let’s make this one Mediterranean mixed with cuban elements. Latin..tropical! So let’s call the final city we visit Piscina City.. It’s pools after all.

The official Paradise Map!

By taking elements from our island we can easily make elemental towns! The starting town would be called Registrase which is a rough translation of check in! All around the heart we have some elements that can be adapted. My castle can be translated into a fairytale town, along with a fairy type gym!  Kaiju lake could be a lake filled with mysteries.. which in Pokémon games.. means ghost types.  The Bar or the restaurant could be converted into a fire town, while the docks obviously are the place to go for water types!  While we would be following the shape of the heart  we sometimes can move land inward for some new adventures.. or even go out to see for some water based minigames, or to investigate some strange events with gym leaders or other characters. The gardens could be thick jungle.. boucy ball beach could feature a roadblock pokémon that you can avoid by navigating trough half submerged caves. Plenty is possible, but as an idea we will scale our island up 100 times or so and turn all of our existing elements into towns.

A rough draft of how my Region would look in Pokémon Map style

Legendaries

Patchwork concept version of Patadeseo

Any good generation game has two box art legendaries and in this case it will be a Unicorn and a Duck legendary. A Fairy Fire type for the Unicorn, and a Water Dark Type for the duck! The Unicorn stands for Passion and the Duck will stand for Desire. We all know one can have a burning passion.. or a burning desire.. but in this case, that desire.. is when one pushes too deep. Let them be swallowed/consumed by desire.. let it be all around them with nothing else around.  Like a dark ocean.  The Unicorn we shall call Passiocornio and the duck will be called Patadeseo!  Both spanish portmanteaus of Passion Unicorn and Desire Duck respectively. Of course the duck would look really cool.  Plus words like Passion and Desire would fit really well in a tropical theme.  Of course to sell the games we need to avoid the word Desire so the games would be called Pokémon Passion and Pokemon Conviction.

Passiocornio recolour concept based on art by XiaoDarkCloud

Unlike other Pokémon legendaries who have been attributed to Pokémon life, we find out that Passiocornio and Patadeseo guide humanity, they have the ability to “speak”  through humans through a sort of voice in their head. It keeps the world of humanity going forward. It keeps humanity progressive, without these Pokémon humanity surely would lose the will to go on and become great pokémon masters!  So  you as the trainer will have to find a way to protect both these Pokémon from the evil team. Compared to other pokémon journeys that would have come before.. This journey would focus much more on what it means to be a trainer and dive into the human aspects of this world. Why do pokémon follow humans that closely, why do pokémon grow stronger when working with humans?!  Questions like these will be answered through the story with the legendaries as we really take a look at our part in this symbiosis.

The Evil Team

Man in Black | Anime-Planet
Team Mahan Grunt

Since I brought up the evil team just now I think that is a good next step to take in creating this world. This time the evil team would take the form of the FBI like people. “Agents” who feel the world is better off with them in control. With them policing over the world.  Events with them would be them selling Pokéballs with tracking chips to people, breaking into a tower to turn around the signal so they can use the radio to eavesdrop on people and potentially them wanting to shut down Pokémon Laboratories because they do not feel 10 year olds are ready to have Pokémon yet.  Yet outside these evil deeds, we also see them volunteer to find every missing kid or help out with other problems in the Pokémon world.. as long as they receive praise and status. I will call them team Mahan. Which basically is a reference to the “The Man”  which is often used for government instances. I feel like having a red white and blue colour scheme would get me in trouble.. so let’s say they wear all black and look a bit like the agents in the Matrix.

Mahan Boss Orwell

The Leader of the evil team is called Orwell and while having a legit reason to be the way he is he will be among the more evil villains in the series. Orwell’s son.. George once took of on his trainer journey much like the player before him. Orwell did not want him to go.. but there was this passion in the boys out and Orwell knew he could not stop him.  Yet on his journey George met an untimely end.. Orwell tried to warn humanity to abolish kid trainers or even children having Pokémon.. but no one would listen and that’s when he realised humanity was stupid! It could not take care of itself… he would have to protect them against themselves.  By Capturing both legendaries he can link everyone’s Passion and Conviction and complete .. the Hive Mind.. a machine he can use to pierce the subconscious of all humans, this way he can protect them from themselves and enslave mankind .. free from it’s whims. Such a theme will be chosen because it meshes well with what Paradise and me are about.. but it also ties in nicely in the exploration of humanity story that is this game.

The Starter and the Rivals

Sobble crying is pretty relatable for me... | Fandom
Sobble Cries because all the starter Elitism and hate

That is right I wrote rivals as a Plural, so this means we are going to have multiple rivals in my game! Symbolising the variety of content you can get on Paradise. However this game will not feature all rivals such as Sword and Shield or  Kalos or any other multiple rival game.. no this game will only have one of them, you will have two.. but who they are all depends on your starting choice.. where in lies the biggest difference from all Pokémon games. You see I do not think we need more pokémon persé. With a Biodiversity of over 920 species we don’t need THAT much more. I’d rather see some extra regional variants to make old pokémon more relevant again maybe with an evolution here or there but I do not think each generation needs 100 extra pokémon. In my opinion one of the most toxic things about new games coming out .. is the starters.  People are SOOOO ungrateful when it comes to new starters.. and we have taken that whole grass water fire thing far enough! People are never really happy anymore.. which is why I propose a radical change in how starters work.. I will make a more in depth post about that some other day…maybe!

luizvc's Custom Pokemon Type Symbols | Pokémon elements, Pokemon, Pokemon logo
Pick what type of trainer you want to be!

My idea is that instead of just being asked what your preferred gender is, we also get a question about what your favourite typing is. From that question you will be assigned a pokémon of that type as a starter.. as long as it follows a few parameters, such as knowing an offensive move at level 5 and learning an additional one that gives a Same  Type Attack Bonus by level 15. You can get ANY Pokémon from that type in the game.  Which makes it a much bigger surprise and will make replaying your game feel more fresh. Your rivals would also change at least in my game.. they are bloggers based on your strength and weakness.  I’d pick fairy for example so my biggest Rival would be A guy everybody loves that uses steel type Pokémon and who is very friendly and loves doglike pokémon.

Variable Rivals, this one might be the fire user

My weakness Rival would be this busy bee girl who specialises in fighting types but also carries a gardevoir as her magical girl. She lloves to lift weight and talk in length about her Pokémon on Radio Shows. Two very nice behavioured rivals, but say had you picked the Psychic type, one of your rivals would be the mysterious man with a one letter name  who would use dark types and act all mean.. even though it is just an act. He wears a tophat and talks with movie quotes a lot.  This would also impact the story at least in an illusion of choice kind of way. Where my steel rival with golden eyebrows  happily tags along you to defeat Team Mahan, a certain anime blogger for example has much less time..and is probably drunk.. so instead she rushes ahead.. only defeating half of the trainers.. leaving you with equally plenty experience to gather from these trainers…but the with your battles unfolding somewhat differently.

The League

The Fairy Type Gym Leader

The Paradise League would feature 8 gym leaders like normal, and they would be based on characters I have on my blog albeit less stolen. Instead of Nakiri Alice as my chef, we’d get a cook, that is also a chemist that loves cooking with his fire pokémon. His gym puzzle would involve gathering ingredients and applying some science to it to produce the correct dish. If you fail.. a clean up crew comes along.. they are annoyed that they have to work now and will attack and battle you. The fairy castle town will feature Chibi Pinkie as a Gymleader dressed like a jester! She wants you to give gifts to the Princess subjects.. they give you a small description of their desired gift..and if you give them the right one.. they WILL honor you with a battle. If you give them the wrong gift they get sad and Jester Pinkie will be angry and become more difficult in battle.  Other gyms would work in similar ways with gym puzzles involving a chore or event that is tied with Paradise actual location.

The Elite four is very simple!  It’s my writing Staff. Indigo would be a steel type user with Bisharp as his ace, Kuro would be a ghost type user with a Regional and better Dusknoir as their ace. Sunny would be a water type user and his ace would be a shiny Milotic that you see raise him from a Feebas earlier. The most ugly fish now turned beautiful is a great metaphor for Sunny.  Periwinkle would be a Dragon Type user.  Dragon’s symbolises his need to put obstacles in his own way by playing super shitty games! His team has a lot of Outrage users and he is an elite 4 leader with a twist. His Pokémon are of a higher level.. but they function like they don’t always obey him.. much like traded Pokémon of to high level.  Periwinkle’s Pokemon are so powerful he soldiered through.. but you need to take advantage of this by using paralysis and confusion tactics to fight him.. it’s not just sheer offence!   His signature Pokémon would be a Druddigon to symbolise this character best.

The Paradise Elite Four
Palm SIBERIA (Character) | aniSearch
Lovable Socially Awkward Professor Palm

The Professor of the Region is a part of this gym journey as well, she is a female professor called Professor Palm. She looks a bit like Palm from Hunter x Hunter as well and her gimmick is that she is massively socially awkward. She represents the geek in all of us, and while she can passionately talk about pokémon… each time she becomes aware she is doing it she freezes up!  She is the polar opposite of professor Sycamore and talks in a very stuttery wayl She is actually a woman of science and has that scientist nervousness! She isn’t a people person and is a bit awkward around children. She will be a fun addition to the Pokémon professor family! She truly is a scientist who dedicated her life to Pokémon. She will utterly be able to talk to the main character and then introduces us to the follower Pokémon mechanic after which she speaks to you trough your Pokémon. “Bulbasaur Tell Pinkie that this Pokédex can register all types of Pokémon” Kawaii!

The Champion

Can you beat the Paradise Champion?

At the end of your journey you would face the champion of Paradise and that would of course be yours truely! Throughout the journey you encounter me a few times. I’d  follow a princess theme!  So I’d be dressed regally like Iris and have mannerisms that hold in between Cynthia and Diantha.  An Amalgamation of the best elements of every female champion. I’d be the ruler of the island as well but this time we will show a person in power is actually not evil! I am sweet!  During the game I will use several teams but always carry my Sylveon with me.  I will  mention that I use several pokémon so all my friends can go out to play. When I support the main character I will carry a team of five pink pokémon, mentioning I have a sixth but people would go crazy if they knew I had it! Early in the game you can find me adopting a lost stuful!

My champion team would fit a princess theme as well. I would have a Kantonian Rapidash to symbolise my unicorn. A Sirfetch’d would be my knight  and Bewear would be my teddy for tea parties.. speaking of tea parties , I’d have an Appletun and Polteageist to be the sweets and tea of a princess party. My final Pokémon would be my Ace Sylveon! I carry that everywhere I go. I know I said Rapidash isn’t in the Pokédex.. and it is not!  It is mine and mine alone! It will help simulate the bratty part of the princess. In My rematch team I use a hybrid of my pink team and princess team. Chansey with Toxic as a lead, Sylveon as an Ace, Bisharp instead of Sirfetch’d for coverage.the teapot would probably still make the team as well an Ariados would make the team for more toxic stalling options and finally I would have a Mew.. which we would give a new form, cause we gotta make some sales! And that  is how Paradise became a game!

The Champion and her first Pokémon League Team

And that is how I’d imagine Paradise as a Pokémon Region/Game. How would your blog look as a Pokémon Region?! What would your champion team be? Do you think my team fits me?! Let’s talk geeky, though I might be napping! Because remember! Friendship is Magic, but dreams are even more wonderful. Oyasumi!

If you want to help me fund this game.. ..but realise I am joking here and you just want to support me.. consider helping me out by buying me a cofee.. or as I like to call it .. A Royalty.. once again Oyasumi!

Periwinkle’s Five Favorite Video Game Writers

Occasionally on my days off from scrubbing the pool floor, changing filters, getting Chlorine in my eyes and falling off ladders trying to replace the festive holiday lights permanently fixed to the tiki bar I get a chance to spend some time on things I actually love.

And I’m not talking about spending hours alone weeping and pulling my hair out questioning poor level design, awful difficulty curves and gigantic plot holes as I play my monthly bad video games that the manager ruthlessly opens the door and tosses at me in my hut.

I’m talking about laying on the beach like an even more drunk TJ Miller sharing raw fish with my best buddy, Cookie and reading back issues of EGM. Reminiscing about Periwinkle in his naive youth. Thumbing through every single page of any gaming magazine I could afford while working minimum wage at a grocery store. Using dial up internet to keep up with his favorite writers in the gaming world. Knowing someday he too would be beloved in Japan and by a small but growing contingent in North America as a masterful script writer for an incredible Action Adventure series.

As you now know – obviously that all happened and now I’m just your typical billionaire that spends his free time in between riding in my personal jet made of platinum and naming Elon Musk’s children after cyborg angels writing for the blog because why not? I just love games.

So I guess I decided to create my own little list. I am going to briefly write about my own top five favorite video game writers. And I’m going to ask my co-conspirators on the site and YOU! (yes, you don’t be shy) to follow suit!

Also I don’t want to hear any belly aching about how, “March isn’t Video Game Writer Month” and “You can only write about your favorite writers in August!!” or any other made up blog rules because I don’t give a shit.

BUT – I do want to hear from you and your favorites! Be it video game writers, anime or book authors. Could be anyone – who cares – let’s rejoice in the people that make us happy. Alright let’s start:

These are in no particular order and this list is obviously not a proclamation of who is “the best” or any of that. Just my personal favorites.

DAN HOUSER

Known for: Grand Theft Auto Series, Red Dead Redemption series, Smuggler’s Run, Max Payne 3, Midnight Club, Bully

My Pick: GTA IV

Despite being one of the most commercially successful writers on this list, Dan Houser has always shied away from the celebrity some of his counterparts bask in. Growing up in England with brother Sam – the Housers ultimately ended up in New York creating the upstart Rockstar Games.

While not being created by the Housers they took over chief writing of the Grand Theft Auto series early on and by the third installation single handily revolutionized open world gameplay. The series has since went on to become one of the most popular video game series of all time (selling over 320 million copies). Grand Theft Auto has always been known for its dark humor, satire of American culture and homage to crime movies but with GTA IV the writing truly evolved into epic storytelling. Matching the updated and realistic graphics the gritty story followed anti-hero, Niko Bellic as an off-the-boat immigrant from the Baltics trying to start a new life in America – only to be forced into the same criminal lifestyle he led back home. It’s a mature and dark take on the American Dream and subsequently became an instant classic.

JOHN GONZALEZ

Known for: Horizon Zero Dawn, Fallout: New Vegas, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Horizon, Dungeon Siege: 3

My Pick: Fallout: New Vegas

Most die hard Fallout fans despite what system they swear allegiance to would tell you that they were giddy after Microsoft acquired Bethesda in September of 2020 because of one thing: Bethesda now being reunited with Obsidian Entertainment.

The last game the two companies worked on together was the near perfect, post apocalyptic masterpiece, Fallout: New Vegas.

The high water mark that some Fallout fans fear will never again be reached. Fallout 4 was good but it wasn’t New Vegas and Fallout 76 is unfortunately a stupid bastard child hated by all. But maybe all fans don’t know that in addition to Obsidian and Bethesda kissing and making up they will also need the help of John Gonzalez, the lead writer of New Vegas. The darkest entry in the violent series, perfectly paced and packed with exciting and interesting dialogue trees and characters, Gonzalez deserves a contract worth all the Nuka-Cola caps in the world to lead the writing team for Fallout 5.

SAM LAKE

Known For: Max Payne, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, Alan Wake, Quantum Break, Control

My Pick: Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne was an absolute game changer for me. Revenge. One of the oldest tales ever told reinvented with style, bravado and a smoky verbosity that my friends and I still joke about to this day. The original Max Payne was about guns and Matrix-esque action sequences. In fact, they were on such a tight budget at Remedy that Sam Lake modeled for Max Payne himself, with other programmers lending their likeness for henchman and baddies throughout the game. They even used Sam’s own mom as the main antagonist, Nicole Horne.

But after Max Payne crushed it as a critical and commercial darling – the budget inflated and Lake hung up his modeling cap and turned the storytelling up to 11. The Fall of Max Payne is a masterpiece on several levels, between its submersible baddie dialogue to its expertly crafted Shakespearean-star-crossed-lovers story arc the Fall is not only a PlayStation 2 masterpiece but an achievement in story telling from an underrated modern day master.

DAVID CAGE

Known For: The Nomad Soul, Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy), Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, Detroit: Become Human

My Pick: Beyond: Two Souls

David Cage is a polarizing figure. I will acknowledge that. But thats it. I am only here to discuss writing prowess and even to that end his company, Quantic Dream also draws hard lines in the sand with gamers. You either really love Quantic Dream games or you don’t. There truly doesn’t seem like very much middle ground.

My personal pick probably seems confounding. Beyond: Two Souls was by far Quantic Dream’s least successful release. It was skewered by critics and gamers alike for bad controls. But it was easy to work through these issues with Cage’s script being read by Elliot Page and Willem Dafoe. If this game doesn’t give you the feels than I can’t help you. The acting is elite and Cage’s script keeps up with his talent.

HIDEO KOJIMA

Known for: The Metal Gear Solid Series, Policenauts, Zone of the Enders, Snatcher, Death Stranding

My Pick: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

The master. In the opinion of many (including my own) one of the greatest writers of all time. No one has quite mashed pop culture, action adventure cinema and overall gun powdered existentialism quite as smoothly than Mr. Kojima.

Throughout Kojima’s career one could argue no one has ever imposed a more convincing anti-war argument to teens through visual media. He may have created one of the most badass soldiers of all time but like all man made weapons of destruction he runs the film past the script end. Never afraid to challenge his own genre and medium no writer has ever been as bold as Kojima when it comes to challenging his players to look at the world around them and demand, “Why?”

ADULT SWIM HOURS

My two best friends that I constantly harass when writing any of my articles had some writers to add of their own they were mad I omitted. They know my guys. They know what games I love. But they needed the world to know:

Shigeru Miyamoto is number one. You don’t just write Mario/Zelda/Donkey Kong/F-Zero/Pikmin/Star Fox and get ignored on some idiot’s blog about great video game writers. It just can’t happen.

While that is true. A few faithful readers will remember that I’ve already been thrashed by a Twitter badass for my lack of absolute devotion to everything Nintendo as is. So I might as well continue this disturbing and challenging trend.

Also, this guy:

Neil Druckmann

This curly haired fellow? Neil Druckmann? He is solely responsible for one of my closest friends denouncing Xbox and buying a PlayStation 3. After watching a half an hour or so of Uncharted. I’d say that’s a pretty good endorsement.

Alright so… now it’s your turn.

Gotta Make ’em All: Turning Indigo Into A Pokémon

In January Indigo, who onTwitter goes by the name of John, despite not being his real name, became my highest Tier Patreon. As a “One Time Only” Reward,  along with quite a few other rewards. Indigo got to be made into a Pokémon (as well as him  getting a Pokémon Team  which will come later) . This is the post to do that! A huge thank you to John for supporting my blog as much as he does and for being a Hero Coconut.

The Typing of John

Why do I use John, instead of Indigo?! Because he isn’t STAFF this time! He is in the spotlight!  Determining a type for the man is a bit harder than it would be for Irina who got this done to her as a thank you for her amazing interpretation of my Blog Tag. John I can place in all of the following types: Normal, Dark, Ice, Fairy, Electric, Steel, Fighting and Ground. To a lesser extent I can even place him in Grass and Rock.  There is an argument for ghosts as well albeit a flimsy one.   John had a typical greeting of addressing me as a Fleshy mammal implicating he in fact is not a fleshy mammal, which makes ghosts quite eligible.. but also, rock ground and steel. However just because it is funny I do want to make this Pokémon rendition of him a bit of a mammal himself. So we will be going for a dual-type style Pokémon with at least one flesh component. John can be an incredible edgelord , thinking it is cool to find a half eaten deer in the forest and showing me a picture (albeit cleaned up).  So Dark Type.. would be a great pick… however the Dark Type is called “Evil Type” in Japan… and that he is not!  So no dark type for Johnmon!

Hailing from Finland would make him a great ice-type but I have already done the whole “she’s from Russia and Canada thus Ice-type hyuk hyuk”  with Irina. What makes John, John however, is that he is quite a war aficionado! He loves old wars, he loves Warhammer and just anything that has to do with soldiers, mercaniers, vikings and all that stuff. That Warrior aspect I would like to include in his Pokémon. He is also a gun nut! Unfortunately Guns are a big no no in Pokémon. Remoraids original design was banned because it looked too much like a gun.  Since these Pokémon have to be somewhat game viable let’s give him Guns..instead of guns!  I mean big muscles! That way we can refer to them as guns and everyone knows we really do mean guns!  Since John loves metal music, spikey things and bullets we will give him the Steel Typing and the Fighting Type. However John’s features will be his wide range. We will give him a custom ability. Which makes him less of a Pokémon if it just makes up everything.. .but here me out on this.  He gets three reinterpretations of Dhelmise ability Metal Worker, which gives the Ghost Grass anchor also STAB boost Steel type moves. John has THREE variants of this ability.  Edgelord, which will boost his dark type moves, Good-Guy,  which will give Fairy Types a STAB Bonus and Electrician which will offer that same effect to electric type moves.

Designing John

Finland has a wide variety of animals and I could easily see John being a bear. He is very huggable yet a fierce warrior as well. There aren’t even that many bears either!  However John is prone to overdesign, so that means he would most likely not be a Basic Pokémon. He would most likely be either a Stage 1 or Stage 2 evolution. So rather than creating that completely from scratch we will use a pre-existing pokémon and I don’t feel Teddiursa would be a great form for John, nor do I feel Ursaring would need an evolution. Instead we would give an unused Pokémon some love! Luckily there is one finnish animal that is present in the pokémon games that is unloved and could use something special. That is the Reindeer Pokémon.. and I know Lapland might not be Finland.. but it is close enough for Pokémon! So Reindeer John it is.  Well he evolves into more of an Elk.. but regardless! We will use Stantler as a Base. A regional variant with extra strong legs, and horns that look a bit more like clubs or something. It would be a Normal Fighting Type. The Male ones are the ones you would like to have,  that upon leveling it up while holding a Metal Coat evolves into Scarvet.

Scarvet, like Stantler is a hybrid between all sorts of deers being close to a reindeer but not fully?! Who knows!  His antlers have turned into Blades. and he has grown several spikes to defend himself with.  Scarvet takes on more Centaur like features which can often be pretty fierce warriors themselves.  This allows Scarvet to learn moves like elemental punches, but also feel as a bit of a cavalier knight and now he has “guns” . His signature move will be called Buckshot, which will take the element of his ability, so dark, fairy or electric. A non contact physical move that deals elemental damage based on its users ability.  The ability a particular Scarvet has can be seen by the colour on his eyes. Yellow for Electric, Pink for Fairy and Black for Dark.  Buckshot in the anime would show a hand making a finger into a gun and then the Pokémon Blinks and elemental energy suddenly hits it’s target in the colour of the eye.  It’s bladed horns are most definitely not from space!

Other moves it will learn are moves such as Thunder Punch, Foul Play, Play Rough, Horn Leech, Mega Horn, Horn Drill , Bullet Punch, Close Combat , Head Charge and Skull Bash and a few special moves like bullet seed,  charge beam and other quasi military names reminding of weapons. Support moves like No Retreat and Sword Dance seem like great options for this Pokémon. While I know No Retreat is current Falinks signature move in later Generations these type of moves usually are given to newer Pokémon as well PLUS it gives me a chance to put a picture of Falinks here.. so Scarvet and me both win!

Pokédex Entries for John

Now that we have the Pokémon let’s think a bit about what he does.  For one let’s make him the mascotte of this region because.. why not! Where the original Stantler  was more of a pacifist that felled foes with trickery, these Stantlers will be more like John. “When Stanler’s existence was threatened by the hunt, it decided to make a stance against hunters… the harsh way as a result Stantler in this region is much more aggressive”.  Something in that nature. Scarvet’s Dex entry would read in a vein like this:  “Hardened by the flames of war this Pokémon has embraced Steel as it’s weapon. His muscles are so big that people often refer to them as guns, this Pokémon is quite the warmachine”.The other generations dex entry might read “Scarvet is a Pokémon that was used a lot in the last Pokémon War. While this Pokémon is not always friendly to the fleshy mammals known as humans, It will always offer it’s aid in a battle it feels is justified” In game you could find out a few more rumors about Scarvet. Mostly rumors about it’s eyes, three trainers will have spotted a Scarvet with an indication on what (post end game)  region they might appear in the wild.

“I spotted a Scarvet in the mountains at night, It stared at me with Pitch black eyes as the night around it only seemed to get darker, it was drinking water from the skull of an unfortunate creature” one might say!  Another would tell you about their encounter with Scarvet. I was being attacked by (Evil Team) While I was fishing by the lake, A Scarvet saved me and stared at me with it’s Yellow Eyes for a moment. I could have sworn I heard the sound of thunder from it’s hooves as it ran away again”. The final one might be someone close to the main character, a rival, your mother or someone like that.  “I was on an afternoon walk through the forest when I met a Scarvet, it walked around me for a bit sniffing the food in my bag, it was playing with some Ribombee , you could see the fun in it’s pink eyes, as it frolicked about ”. Other lore would include Scarvet protecting weaker or wounded Pokémon, Scarvet fighting evil team members and potentially dying like Cubone’s mother. Yet it would also be very cruel to whatever becomes its prey, parading with that.

John’s Role

I think it is pretty safe to say, it is rather easy to determine John’s Pokémon’s combat role. He will be a Speedy physical sweeper that can come in three variants so it is hard to predict which one is coming in competitive.  Electric Dark and Fairy stab should give you some pretty huge typing cover as well so it will be a pace setter as a Pokémon. It can be a Pokémon that works great for both playthroughs as well as competitive. I imagine Scarvet performing better in Single Battles because the guessing aspect of it’s bonuses comes more into play there. You might be able to take a thunder punch from  Edgelord Scarvet, but Electrician Scarvet will be able to finish the job. It could see some competitive play.

In playthroughs this Pokémon would be a perfect all rounder to fill up a last slot of your party.  You just find/breed the one with the ability you want and add it to your team to gain perfection. Well unless you are like me and build your team with a  Fairy, Fighting, Steel core.  He is there to make things faint in the end and he is very well equipped  to do this.  Easy to play for everyone and functioning as a bit of a crutch to see how much more damage STAB will exactly mean for you. Scarvet is beginner friendly but also fun to experiment with for the more advanced players now that abilities of Pokémon can be swapped a bit more easily.

And that is just like John, he has a competitive edge to him, often playing LAN matches, he is versatile in what he does but he is fascinated by combat above all. He is a guy that will leap in front of you to save you from some nasty blows, just like Scarvet is a great lead Pokémon.  Yet he is also the person to get you into a fight because he is either being a knight a little too much.. or he just wants to see what his new weapons do (in Role Play situations, not real  life). He is friendly to everyone though maybe a bit intimidating if you’d meet him on the street after dark.. but if you get to know him better you will have one heck of friend that really would do so much for you and can surprise you even after years.  So that is how John would be a Pokémon!   Thank you for all your support to this blog! I really hope you like this post!

Pinkie Plays: Moemon Emerald Extreme Randomiser Nuzlocke (Episode 2) The Ultimate Waifu

Hello again little lights, I wanted to have some anime girls death battle a little more so I decided to continue playing my Moemon Emerald Extreme Randomiser Nuzlocke!  You know that thing where I battle with Pokémon and if they faint they are considered dead!  Last episode we got an amazing starter and some pretty sleek Pokémon to kit out our team! We are looking good! But can it help us?

Exploring Rustboro

Before the Gym Battle officially starts I decided to walk around a bit. I am not too familiar with Emerald as I haven’t played it in ages so I mozy around and talk to everyone, I encounter one of those weird.. enter the impossible to grasp passcode persons in the form of a sick girl!  I search the web for an online generator to get this done and I speak “the funny word”   to her father. The word is hsnBMqpgsTnBVcq. Wanda smiles and is healed by the word and I get a new wallpaper for my computer… so not worth this but hey I guess my death box now looks Kawaii as Fudge! Another guy thinks I would trade a Gengar for a Jumpluff.. I guess the people in this town are weirdo’s that is not a good trade for me if I would do that!

I end up finding a big pearl on route 105 and now have  two options. I can face the gym with a team of 5 or I do my cave encounter and route 116 before.. as far as I am aware in Nuzlocke.. it is always wise to have more Pokémon!  So I move into the grass of route 116 and my first encounter is a Gardevoir with Psycho Boost.. a super powerful move! I manage to catch it easily but I almost lose Murmur the Porygon 2 to her onslaught! I swap in Jigglypuff and the one named Miku can not be hit by anything that is not super effective so she is safe. I capture the Gardevoir and name her C.C. I might not like code Geass but it seems like a fitting name!

C.C. is proper Waifu Material so I decide to train her up a bit so she doesn’t die immediately in the gym battle.. A random trainer has a Suicune and gives her a lot of trouble! I want to swap her out but the opponent has Arena Trap and I fear for my life. Luckily Gardevoir breaks free and learns Mistball.. there was no need for her to learn that over Agility … but I found it funny that she has two legendary Signature moves so I did it anyway, sometimes you just have to have fun… plus Mistball looks cute as an attack on her! For some strange reason I do encounter Gengar in these fields so I decide to cheat a little.. I will catch it and trade it for the Jumpluff …just so I can have a Trophy waifu.. I won’t use her and I will burn resources on this ..but it is just for fun! I waste a lot of Pokéballs and Money but I end up with my first Trophy Wife Yellow The Jumpluff that I traded for a Gengar.. just because it is such a bad trade!

On my way to Rusturf tunnel I fight a few trainers with legendaries. Everyone except for Murmur the Porygon and Umaru the Slowpoke manage to reach level 11.. In the tunnel I failed to catch my encounter, which was an Elekid.. it isn’t that bad as I do prefer our own Usagi the (C)Raichu.  I think the Gym Leaders ace is level 13 or so.. which we should be able to handle! But I have come to realise we have a bit of a grass weakness! I have no good counters for that and two members are weak against it, and grass also resists Usagi! The only good way to deal with it is sending in Miku the Immune Jigglypuff! So let’s hope that the gym leader does not have a Venusaur or a Meganium!

The Rustboro Gym

The Gym challenge begins.. I forgot to talk to the dude for a free fresh water and rush into the first battle with a Youngster.. sending out Umaru first against his Glalie..we should have this.. unfortunately Glalie has Tail Glow.. which boosts it’s stats greatly and it immediately freezes Umaru as well.. putting her on Red health. No Bueno!  I already need to swap in Jigglypuff to survive this! Miku.. is immune to ice type moves and Glalie has no fighting type moves so it goes down fairly easily as we leave our first little girl corpse in the gym! Time for the second trainer, only one left after this ..before facing the leader! Let’s give Umara a chance to redeem herself. I slip up and trigger a double battle! after which the Hiker and a young boy send out a Chansey and a Nincada.. which isn’t good for the pair of Usagi and Umara.. both are special attackers..  and one is weak against Nincada.. we better take care of the bug first!.. Then I realise Nincada is a ground  type, now that moves are random but based on the same type bias Usagi is in grave danger.. I need to swap her out and risk them doubling into Umaru.

Luckily Chansey doesn’t do anything and Nincada can barely damage her!  Sakura the Rhyhorn comes out to replace Usagi.. as Chansey is weaker to physical attacks and Ground and Bug types can’t hurt Sakura a lot! The trainers send in a Smoochum and Poochyena next! The Smoochum is no problem but the Poochyena has Sacred Fire which burns Sakura and cuts her attack in half putting her out of the fight! I swap in Murmur.. but she also gets burned right away! Luckily Vicegrip still does decent damage and Umaru’s Water Gun finishes the pair off!  It is time.. to face the gym leader! At least everyone is level 11 now so I do feel fairly confident!

Roxanne normally is a Rock Type Gym leader, which we would easily wash with Murmur and Umaru.. but she isn’t the same Roxanne as before.. she calls herself Bug Catcher Robin now.. for one and she leads off with a level 12 Gardevoir… which means Miku has to come and save the day already!  If it has Psycho Booth as well it can pretty much kill everything else! Umaru levels up from this fight and so does Miku with Miku now learning Super Sonic. The next Pokémon Roxanne is about to use is a Mew.. which is a problem yet again…because Mew can learn ANYTHING and it has no real stat bias either. I am afraid it will have Focus Blast so I decide to swap in Rhyhorn which is one of my tankier Pokémon.. Sakura can also use Mud Slap to lower its accuracy if need be!

Mew looks absolutely adorable. I must have it! I must.. but I can’t because it belongs to a Gym Leader so she has to die! Sakura nearly gets one shot by a psybeam.. and barely manages to chip away at her health too..it looks like I am going to have to risk Miku here! Afraid of the Focus Blast I use Gardevoir instead as it can resist the Psychic attacks! I whittle away at Mew with Mistball until it goes down, the Gym leaders Ace is a Dunsparce..  I decided to swap in Murmur as she could use the XP the most, thinking the Gym leader’s ace is level 13..turns out it’s 15! It starts using Thunder and immediately puts Murmur in red health.. I decide to swap in USagi to counter this.. but she has False Swipe which puts Usagi on Yellow health..Dunsparce reveals her other moves to be Recover and Charge.. which means it can’t touch Miku.. but can Miku kill it fast enough before she struggles to her own death?

Operation  Peeko

It turns out the answer is yes! Realising as a Gym Leader that Dunsparce can not touch me it keeps spamming Charge instead of Recover and Three Crush claws later I am the proud owner of a Stone Badge. She also grants me the teachable move Morning Sun… which is only a mildly decent healing move.. so I decide to sell it with the move Flail that I picked up earlier.. Flail deals more damage depending on how hurt you are. It is often used in novelty combat sets such as a Magikarp Sweep team (in which you set the game up so that Magikarp can kill a full team of Legendaries  with just the move Flail). It isn’t very good for Nuzlockes though.. and Morning Sun being better in weather also feels too flimsy! I rather have some potions that I can more reliably use early game!  After exiting the gym.. I see a robbery is going on! I ignore it for now and go heal my damaged team. Then it is time to rescue a Peeko!

I equip Sakura with a Quick Claw I managed to get my hands on and give Murmur a Hard Stone. The first item allows Pokémon to Strike first sometimes and Sakura is a slow girl!  The second powers up  Ground type moves.. so Murmur’s Earthquake now deals more damage. Time to hunt some criminal scum! Well it would be had I not been distracted with a few trainers hidden behind some cuttable bushes.. there are items on the ground.. and since they too are randomised Lucky Eggs (which double XP)  or Master Balls can be everywhere.  Murmur is forced to learn Cut.. since I don’t actually have an extra Pokémon to use as an HM slave.. and Immediately she gets into a fight with an Entei.. the Hard Stone pays off here as we easily Oneshot Entei with a powered up Earthquake! C.C. Nearly gets killed by a Dewgong but we end up safe and sound arriving at Rustuf tunnel once more where an eldery Sailor tells us that his 8 year old girl has been stolen by Team Aqua.. and if I could please get his Peeko back! I agree though I really hope Peeko’s overworld sprite remains a Wingull..in bird form.. as I enter the cave to fight a pirate!

Luckily Peeko indeed looks like a bird.. but we all know better in this world Pokémon are little girls.. but yay for Censorship and all!  The Pirate prefers to go by the name of Rich Boy Bob, who has a Sharpedo.. which is kind of the Signature Pokémon for this team.. so that’s strange! Usagi punishes in the name of the Moen or something and I get Peeko back and some sort of supplies for a big corporation. I bring back the stuff that was stolen from them and as a reward they give me more work… and some kind of weird navigation that is also a phone.. you know that is KINDA the wrong way around! That’s right, even Moths can be Millenials. I guess now I have to head towards the second gym .. which means I have to go on a boat with that old guy.. that keeps little girls locked up in his balls.. and I am a 10 year old girl….  Thanks Devon Corp for sending me on this mission! I am sure this will not backfire at all!

I’m on a Boat.

I really have forgotten a lot about these games! Apparently I have to fight Brendan at the exit of town!  Umaru nearly dies again.. she isn’t really pulling her weight here…so I might see if I can replace her with an Old Rod Encounter in a bit!  She does manage to finish an Eevee!!!! Although barely.. and when Brendan sends out a Pidgeotto I send in Usagi to quickly finish this fight! He outlevels me though so Pidgeotto lives a hit and makes Usagi cry by hitting her again. She revenge kills him soon after with the power of her ability Effect Spore.. which ends up poisoning them. In my head cannon Effect Spore.. isn’t actually spores.. but tears. Usagi cries and her tears can inflict a status condition. Yes that works really well! Perhaps the spores are in her tears! On the way back through Petalburg Woods I decide to go the route that is locked behind some cut trees. I picked up a few new items including a Miracle Seeds that powers up grass moves, of which I currently have none.. but I also find an Amulet Coin.. which is a great item! It generates more money! I decided to put it on Usagi. I use her more often than I use Miku due to how hard she hits! I might switch it to Miku soon though.. I am not sure on who the item is better for now.

I arrive at Mister Briney’s house  and he is Chasing the little girl that just happens to look like a bird on her sprite to make this all PG around the table! I talk to him and he stops playing around..calling Peeko his darling.. his filthy vagrant behaviour is something that should not be tolerated! At least as long as I keep him occupied, poor Peeko is safe! My chores that I got for helping a big company out is having to travel to two towns. Dewford to deliver a letter to mister Steven Stone, the Champion of the Pokémon League AND Travel to Slateport! Luckily in Dewford there is also the second gym! I am running out of space to type though so instead of pursuing this course of action I decided to pick up an old rod to fish for my Dewford Encounter.. I also got to go back  to Petalburg to fish there.. but I will hold off for now! Except for Umaru my team is looking fairly strong!  I decide to fish and what lives on the bottom of the sea?! Why a  little girl of course!  Nibbling on my rod is a brand new Spearow…maybe I will go grab that Petalburg encounter after all! I catch it though and name it Asuka!

I decide to hold off and challenge the two Fishermen on the beach instead to wrap this up! Fight one goes about as well as you expect! Sakura had to be swapped out against a Slowpoke as a droplet of Rain WILL kill her.. but Usagi once again comes to save the day!  The second fight.. is a disaster.. Sakura faces off against a  Zapdos.she can’t hit Zapdos and it is level 10! Sakura is level 12.. Meanwhile Zapdos has a headbutt and whittles away at Sakura.. I try to swap her out but Zapdos has Shadow Tag.. this looks like this might be it for Sakura.. but I refuse to let her go and I decide to keep my girl healthy with potions wasting them all! But it works! Sakura has low Power Points (number of uses)  on her moves and thus she gets to use “struggle” fairly early! Finally being able to hit Zapdos.. who now is locked in Spark.. a high Power Point Move that can not hurt ground types! With  about 25% Hp left, Sakura finishes off the Zapdos and Usagi deletes his two other Moe girls. Which includes a very skimpily dressed Octillery! Oh jeez Sakura I am so glad you are okay I thought I had lost you!  Let’s use this moment to take a break!  Next episode the battle against Brawly will happen and we get a few new encounters!  Untill then.. don’t lewd the Moes.. they are Tomodachi!

Steampowerd Pokéballs : Creating my own Steampunk Pokémon Game

Fancy meeting you her lads and ladies, it is Steampunk month and Pokémon.. is not something you can immediately connect to that sort of thing.  While there may be a steampunk Romhack out there that I am not familiar with.. I have found nothing of the sorts just set.. so I decided to create a concept of my own. Including a few new regional variants.. and if I decide to make Steampunk Pokémon from scratch this will be the game they will be featured in! So let’s take a look at my Steampunk game.

NOT a Mainline game

To determine how my game will look like I first needed to decide what type of game it would be!  Would it be a mainline RPG adventure or would it be something of a spin off game. Like Pokémon Conquest or Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. I have decided against creating an entire new mainline game! Why?! Because I would need a new region.. and we have a perfectly good region to create a Steampunk game. Galar  already has a fair few Steampunk elements in it..it just got modernised. Steampunk games tend to have a more dystopian vibe as well. So I decided to combine the Galar region with the game series that already has this vibe..albeit in a more cyberpunk like setting. The Pokémon Colosseum series. In this series you get equipped with an artificial arm…. (that’s a big thing)  and go capture Shadow Pokémon… by just making a few tweaks to the formula we can adapt this into a new game.

The Player Character

The artificial arm that is so important to this series is called the snag machine. Playing a character with a mechanical arm is very steampunk.. so it fits like a glove. A snag machine allows you to steal Pokémon from other trainers, which the main heroes need to steal so called Shadow Pokémon, a Pokémon that an evil organisation has tried to power up by closing their hearts and making them all about battles.. turning them into weapons. Again this is a trope that works pretty well in a Steampunk setting, but technology has come to  far. So instead of being a sequel to Pokémon XD Gale of Darkness it will be a prequel to Pokémon Coliseum.  But there is a problem.. in those early days the technology to make Shadow Pokémon did not exist. After all, Cipher did not exist yet. So we are going to need a new evil team.

The Evil Team

Like the Colosseum games, this game will be all about fighting the evil team and the big villains would be Team Tesla. What makes this organisation different from the others ..but remarkably close to team Cipher is that they HATE weak Pokémon. A weak Pokémon is a useless Pokémon in their eyes so if a Pokémon loses.. it is weak and they try to modify it it. Which leaves us with a counterpart to shadow Pokémon. This Pokémon Steampunk game will feature “Augmented” Pokémon. These are Pokémon that have been captured by Team Tesla for being weak and given augmentations. Like metal parts, exoskeletons, weapons and different things. However these Pokémon are too weak to just flat out remove it. You have to make sure these Pokémon can be strong enough to undo the augmentations.  In  more ways than one mirroring how Shadow pokemon work. They will get augmented secondary typing.. and all augmented pokémon moves are super effective against other pokémon.. and they work just like shadow pokémon work.. however instead of rampaging causing damage these devices overheat damaging the pokémon if you use augment attacks too much.  You can cool them down by having them rest for a turn or vent steam.

Tesla Grunt with an Augmented Snorlax

Team Tesla would have also been the ones who “actually” discovered the snag technology, using it to steal Pokémon from trainers they have defeated. You in this game start off as a member of Team Tesla.

Steel Type Eeveelution

In a tutorial you are given a rental pokémon and forced to steal a Pokémon of a person. A young boy with two Eevee. You steal one of them and then are forced to hand it over to Team Tesla for augmentation. Let’s say the leader of the team is your father.. Thaddeus Tesla. You are his daughter (because the last two games you played a male) while Eevee is undergoing augmentations you get regrets and decide to rescue it. However it turns out your eevee is special and it evolved into a steel type eeveelution.  A new Pokémon in the game. You find yourself overwhelmed but the young boy shows up again with a Flareon and helps you escape.

The boy tells you he saw you weren’t all that evil and knew you would do the right thing. He shows you how to properly catch normal Pokémon and allows you to keep the Eevee as he believes the bond you had with Eevee allowed it to achieve this special Eeveelution.. but in return you have to help him stop Team Tesla. He then introduces himself as Samuel Magnolia. What follows is a plot where Team Tesla.. who has their claws deep inside the Pokémon Foundation and the Galar government is trying to organise lots of tournaments.. to steal all the weak Pokémon and make them stronger. With these stronger Pokémon they wish to engage with the Kalos region in a new war.. so Pokémon and humanity will  fight forever more and grow infinitely stronger. With their elites somewhat based on the four horsemen.. but of course being pokéfied. Your father of course represents War and is their leader, but there would also be an elite trying to infect creatures of a certain arena with the original form of Pokérus.. to cause pokémon to grow faster..but make them sick as well.  One town would be ruled by a leader who creates food shortage in his village.. giving food only to the strongest and since death does not exist.. one leader.. who wishes everything to turn into ghost pokémon…because that is totally fine!

Team Tesla Logo and it’s boss.. your Father Thaddeus Tesla

The Pokémon

Samuel Magnolia , the aspiring Pokémon Professor

You will join Samuel Magnolia, in the resistance and fight against Team Tesla. Equipped with their own Snag device you can steal their augmented Pokémon and bring them to Pokémon technicians James and Thomas.  James can use his machines to  use steam to “sweat” off the parts the pokémon have put on them… because all those parts are just “glued”  on of course. We have to make this child friendly..but they have to be strong enough to resist the heat.. or the moisture. So you have to train them up. With all the parts that fall off, Thomas will build you machines to progress through the game. A motor for your bike.. a Balloon so you for your bike so you can float across those mountains and more. It would be similar to how your bike got upgraded in XD Gale of Darkness.. or how you earn HM’s in the regular games. It would also force you to at least use Augmented Pokémon a bit. If that is too tedious we can always make the ones you need storywise already strong enough to proceed.

Ancient Galarian Drifblim

Besides from the steel type Eevee there would not be that much Pokémon.. but it will introduce a few “ancient” Galarian forms.  All the pokémon found will serve the Double Battle Format that is iconic to this series. For example we would get a Galarian Drifblim (and Drifloon). While in the original Drifloon is a Balloon, Drifblim.. is still a Balloon.. so now we can actually make it a blimp! Since once again that is very iconic in Steampunk settings.
So we would get a Flying Fire Type Pokémon that instead of an ability like Aftermath would get an ability like “Carry” which is an ability I just made up.. that makes its partner Immune to Ground type moves.  This would already be great since the Steel Eevee is weak to ground.

Ancient Galarian Klang

I would also give Klink an Ancient Galarian Form, one that reveals this form might be the ancestor of current day Klink and Magnemite. Being a steel electric type it looks a bit more like old timey gears and rather than growing to a big one it becomes more gears as it evolves.  Possibly I would add some clock elements to it as well, this way it can feasibly learn abilities like “me first”  or give it an ability that can speed boost it’s partner pokémon by accelerating it in time… or the counterpart slowing down the opponent.  More Pokémon would be steampunk ified that way.. with abilities that focus on helping an ally! To make the double format more prevalent in the world. Pokémon like Toxicity who resemble an electric guitarist would not be found in this game, neither would Ditto , Porygon and of course Metwo.  For Legendaries, we would mostly stick to the Regi’s.. but there is a special spotlight for Volcanion and Magearna.

I will save coming up with more unique Pokémon for a later post, but the trouble with Steampunk is mostly type diversity it is a world where there will be plenty of Steel and Fire types which means ground Pokémon will be a big problem.. which is why I will make Ancient Galarian Ludicolo an Electric Ground type. Why?! Because it is a Pokémon Colosseum game..  in it you face a man named Mirror B.. who constantly shows up and uses his Ludicolo to battle you! It is quite annoying! Of Course Mirror B would make his return.. but well since games plays out in ancient times.. we get his ancestor! Mirror A!  Ludicolo always had a tricky typing to deal with and this time it will not be different.. especially since it has drought.  Back in these times.. the Wildlands had a junkyard settlement where Mirror A and his gang used to live.. they are the second evil team.. the one that is more played for jokes.. so this Ludicolo starts as a Lotad that Mirror A finds from his Lombre and Stunfisk.
You beat his two Pokémon and they flee and all he is left with is an egg and he swears revenge on you!

The Characters

<In this Section I will use art of the original Sword and Shield characters as.. making art is a tad to specific.. just apply steampunk (and potential gender) modifiers on these descendant characters >

Sonia the Decedent of Samuel and the Player Character

Which brings me to the final part of this game set up for now.. as mechanically the game would almost be exactly like it’s older counterparts.. just with more modern Pokémon references it will still be a Pokémon Battle Double battle game with purification mechanics, tournaments and limited exploratory gameplay! This one is much more about battle tactics than the main series and would be quite a bit harder. The main character is a nameable female with orange hair. She would look a lot like Sonia from Pokémon Sword and Shield.
You will play a slightly older trainer than in the main line games, around the age of 15/16. The young boy you encounter, Samuel Magnolia, is clearly an ancient ancestor of professor Magnolia we encounter in the Gen VIII games?! “But wait?! Pinkie you just said we looked like Sonia.. isn’t she the granddaughter of Professor Magnolia?!” That’s right.. and this game is gonna show you where that side of the genepool comes from.

Pierce and Marnie, future offspring of the Motostoke Spy!

Like I said this game is about double battles, but where it is different is that you will quite regularly battle alongside other members of the resistance. While you fight alone in tournaments, during a raid on a Tesla base you fight with partners. Every partner has a specific team preference. Samuel for example likes to use Grass and Fire pokémon and likes to set up the weather with Sunny Day. So if you bring Hail Pokémon.. your team work will suffer. Meanwhile other people might prefer the rain, or even the hail.. one might bring a Galarian Weezing that ignores abilities.. so it is up to you to balance your teams to fit your partners as well.  So you can train up several Pokémon.  The resistances members will resemble the gym leader families. For example one will be this almost alpine like.. large woman, who prefers to use Wooloo and other normal types along with grass types.. with her battle style relying on putting leech seed up and lower stats so you can focus on damage. She is connected to Milo. We also meet Marnie and Pierce’s ancestor who likes using the dark types.. whose battle strategy focuses on Confusion/Flinces  and single target damage. Then there is Raihan’s ancestor.. a fellow resistance member who desperately wants to be the hero himself.. his strategy is to knock you out along with his opponents so he can say he did all the work.

Raihan , part of the family line of the Solo Aviator

Of course all would follow some steampunk archetypes as well. With Pierce and Marnie’s ancestor being the spy type, Raihan’s ancestor being a hotheaded aviator and Milo’s ancestor being a tradesperson. All having their own little quirk. Battling with Samuel a lot.. who battles using Eeveelutions.. Being a professor researching these strange events makes a little romance bloom.. that while only implied you can tell will have a good ending.. because you know how the Magnolia name descendants.. look a lot like that Tesla girl. I think it is a nice way to include a romance without including a romance..  and with everyone being both an archetype as well as an ancestor it can be quite neat to link everyone in this world to their modern day counterpart.. adding some fun to an already delightful format! Puzzles you would do reflect the characters as well. With the aviator you’ll infiltrate a skyfort having to deal with winds, with Samuel you’ll do sciency stuff, like align electric pokemon to power doors and with the Motostoke Spy you will find yourself sneaking past search lights and finding hidden entrances and such.

The Team Tesla Sky Fortress one of the Final Dungeons in the Game

And that would be my blueprint for a Steampunk pokemon game. I’ll be honest… I would LOVE to play a game like that.  It might be a bit hard to imagine if you haven’t played XD Gale of Darkness but there is so much that would work for a SteamPunk scenario. These wind puzzles, the sneak puzzles we have seen before in Pokémon games so making them an actual part of the plot could do so much. Forcing you to battle with a partner might not be something people look forward to but given how bringing extra tech by cleaning pokémon from their steampunky augmentations will allow you to power level.. it will give you a chance to learn some more advanced battle strategies. it could be so fun! So how would you do a steampunk Pokémon game? What Pokémon would you want to have an ancient Galarian form? Let me know and let’s talk Pokémon!

When Four Fish Beat Pokémon Sapphire

Hello Island Guests! Normally I don’t really do “news”  updates posts anymore! Yet last week a story happened in the world of Pokémon that is too fun not to tell! It might not be my most insightful post in the topic but with this post I will tell you how a fish beat Pokémon Sapphire. I might be wrong on some details because the stream was in Japanese and did not gather a huge audience. This information is a bit scarce or “google translatish ” So if you happen to be an expert on the subject.. let it be known that this is just an account from what I heard and experienced myself.

Pinkie?! How can a fish play Pokémon?

Well it all started in June when a YouTube channel named the Yutekimaru channel started streaming images of a fish swimming above what look like a strange sort of control scheme featuring several game boy advance button commands and what seemed to be Pokémon Sapphire.  It turns out that this fish, which is called Maurice and his friends already had been swimming in this tank for over 700 hours beating the first two gyms. Now let it be known that the version of Sapphire being played here is modded. Because of the fact that this translates very poorly I have no idea what exactly has been changed with the mod, but I would assume it takes complicated tasks such as activating hm’s away from the fish and it would cut down a tree and surf even if it doesn’t have the right pokémon.  Again.. I am not sure but that’s what I would do.

Because of how the stream only started SEVEN HUNDRED hours into the gameplay a few details were sketchy. And given that the stream itself lasted for 3185 hours still ..it is very hard to find a reference point on how something works exactly. It somehow managed to get a full team of 6 pokemon, beat all 8 gyms and even make its way through victory road and fight the elite four. All by random button inputs. It’s a lot like Twitch plays Pokémon.. just less chaos.. but also no sentient brain. It is completely random button inputs! But yes.. After many many hours of streaming the fish took down the champion.

That sounds kinda cruel to animals Pinkie?!

Actually it wasn’t that bad, the fish were allowed to go to sleep whenever they wanted, the keeper would swap them out if they looked tired or too confused, and several times during the stream he has made quality of life improvements for the fish based on crowd feedback.  For example the tank he used has increased in size since the start of the game when people commented the tank/fish ration was kind of wonky.   Evidence that emerged afterwards showed that Maurice and his friends were all doing really well and were quite happy little fish. People commenting would immediately have their comments validated and Maurice and friends were given proper treatment… the only one who was cruel to animals was Maurice!

You see Pokémon are animals too and Maurice hounded wild encounters down like it was nothing! It kept encountering so many new Pokémon that by the end he was nearly 20 levels stronger than Steven’s ace pokémon. It has hunted so many Pokémon that the Fish Squad encountered not ONE but THREE shinies!  Let it be known that I have been playing Pokémon ever since I was twelve years old.. and for 21 years now ( I am still 21 by the way)  and I have only encountered TWO shinies.  (Not including Shiny boosted fan games) .  The game Maurice played had NO increased shiny rates. So the chances of him encountering a shiny are 1 in 8195 or something close to that number

Meanwhile both shinies I have encountered so far in my life have been with boosted shiny rates. Counting all hours I have spent over all Pokémon games in my life, I think I would most likely have played over 3000 hours of Pokémon myself… well or something close to.Yet Maurice has more shiny luck then me!  Reee!  What is worse is .. A fish isn’t good at capturing a Pokémon. It is a miracle if he can catch anything.. so yeah when he faced the shinies.. he immediately killed them.. or even worse… he ran away. Shiny Zubat, Shiny Aron and Shiny Zigzagoon have all been passed that way… and to make it even more painful.. Shiny Crobat.. the evolution of Zubat is one of my favourite Pink shines ever.. and Shiny Aron is one of my favourite non Pink shines. ……

Wait Pinkie are you Salty at a fish?!

What… n-n-no! Baka! I would never.. it is just a dumb fish.. it just got dumb luck you know! Now  drop it or I will wack you with an aquarium or something! Baka! … Now if you are familiar with Pokémon.. you may notice something about the encounters i described.. these are all early route Pokémon.. and yes that is right.. all of these were encountered within 200 hours from each other……….Now I know I put more hours into pokémon than that!  With no shinies captured the squad moved further through the game. While the fish isn’t exactly setting any speed running records there is something that the aquatic creature did that NO ONE before has done in the game. That is right.. the fish accidentally discovered something NO one has ever managed to find in Pokemon Ruby or Sapphire.

Maurice and Pals discovered a stone duplication glitch.. that since seems to have been confirmed to be actually in the non modded version of the game as well…. Maurice.. is the first “person” in the world to discover a Stone Duplication glitch, in which a rock you roll around with strength instead of moving to the next tile stays in the tile it used to be in.. while creating a duplicate stone.. on the tile where it is going. This of course broke the puzzle and Maurice was stuck.. but it also caused the glitch to be acknowledged. So not only is Maurice the first fish that beat Sapphire.. it is also the first fish to find a “game breaking” glitch and will probably be marked as the one discovering the glitch… and it has encountered more shinies then me! How friggin unfair! Roughly around 2000 people followed it’s adventures near the end…so he even has more followers than me…

How can a Fish beat the Elite Four?!

Well it wasn’t easy!  It took Maurice and friends roughly 16 attempts to have a winning run but the way Maurice beat the game is incredible…. he beat the game with a Water Type. Walrein was the victor! It chose Torchic as it’s starter so as far as I know there were little shenanigans on that front. There was also a Tentacruel and a Mightyena on the team.. and a Swellow I think so it wasn’t even that great of a team.. but by overleveling the first aquatic pokémofans managed to sneak on through!  Maurice’s strategy was to spam Iceball , a move that repeats itself and gains in strength. Perfect for such a randomiser.. While it seems too powerful of a move for Maurice to put on  this Pokémon himself.. he still managed to select the move and defeat all of Steven’s monsters in a perfect string. Right before that toxic ended the fish run… but yes a fish beat Pokémon with a water type. It feels so unreal to say.

Regardless of how much help the fish may have gotten, in the end it did manage to beat the game and do something quite unique. Depending on  if the 3185 hour mark is full game time or steam time, accounts differ a bit on that, that total amount of hours made it so that Maurice and his three friends needed 10x as much time to beat the game as Twitch plays Pokémon.. which already was pure chaos. If you have seen ANYTHING about that game  you know how much that game did NOT move forward. How much things did not pan out.. Well 4 fish are 10x slower than 35.000 people spamming in chat apparently. So the answer on how a fish beat Pokémon… Not Very Effectively.

Was it entertaining to watch?

No! It was quite horrible! I stumbled upon it once and I think I lasted twenty minutes before I got sub-dermal itches and stuff. You know it’s like seeing your grandma play the most recent Doom game.  Stuff is happening but it hasn’t anything to do with the actual game and you can not help but to backseat the game a lot.. yet nothing changes.. You can yell … GO left! Left! All you want but that ain’t causing Maurice to stop swimming. He just keeps swimming, just keeps swimming.. and the entire Dory stick.. Maurice did! Is the stream worth the watch?! … No! Chat was nearly exclusively in Japanese so there were no interactions to be had,  and the fish beat the game about 100x slower than normal. Imagine Watching all extended cuts of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit combined.. played at 80 times slow motion with the rest of the screen time filled with extra duplicates of non exciting scenes. A few polish people are watching it.. but they only speak polish and already seem drunk and have a lot of insider humor because some seem to have watched so much of this…

With that level of entertainment I can not recommend anyone in good faith to watch this. Even the summary news reports are kind of boring. Yet it is insane in the same vein.. it is completely random content and there is a market for that… not too big because Maurice did not even come close to the crowd that Twitch plays Pokémon drew.  Most of the times the number of viewers were in the hundreds. Plenty of fish activists , plenty of very hardcore Pokémon fans that stared at four fish for to long. This is one of those events that is incredibly entertaining for me to know .. yet it’s also something I would for the life of me not spend any more time on than I already did.  Imagine a magikarp.. as most of you know it has the move splash if you click it .. nothing happens. This game is the equivalent of a Magikarp using all his splashes and then struggling to make progression.. wiping out get his pp restored and starts splashing again .. for 3000 hours.

For those of you who want to know.. this finally Maurice is a Siamese Fighting Fish.. It is a very pretty fish. It’s a fish that costs you about €10 or $12. It is also known as a Betta Splendens.. and making a fish play Pokémon I guess is a pretty Beta thing to do. You aren’t getting a lot of tail with those bragging rights! Yet Maurice has been featured on several gaming websites over the world , so at least it got its fifteen minutes of fame. I am not sure if fifteen minutes of fame are worth 191.700 minutes of random streaming action.. but hey! If you in your live have never beaten Pokémon Sapphire .. or a main-line Pokémon game ever.. know you will have to live with the fact.. that a fish beat you to it!.. If you have never beaten Pokémon Leaf Green.. you have about 3000 hours to do so because Maurice and his friends are now playing that game! He chose Bulbasaur as his Starter.. the madlad.. but we are 35 hours in and he hasn’t left Pallet Town since!

It’s Alive! Alive! Creating Pokémon 1: Halloween Edition

Greetings mortals, welcome back to Paradise! Halloween is all about monsters, creatures and things that go bump in the night! Pokémon are created by Creatures Inc! Yet tonight..or whenever you are reading this..just make it night because that is more haloweeny, we are gonna create life ourselves. Like our friend Average Joe made Pokémom out of Symbiotes or Godzilla creatures so shall I make monsters out of the classic monsters. However We will go one step further and twist their designs into actual Pokémon.

The Rules

So a scientist like me Professor Pinkenstein should make it clear that we are playing with some rules today! My dear people! Not only will I just look at a iconic monster, give them a typing, some moves and an ability! We will all also reshape them into something pokémon like. After all most of the iconic creatures are humanoid in nature and while it can fit pokémon.. I was never one to take the easy way. We will discuss the creature’s biology and pokédex-like information and come up with a new name for it. Of course I can not really draw so these will be college creatures. If you are an artist and want to draw them for real.. I am up on featuring these images in a follow up post…but I don’t think I know anyone who actually draws?! Now let’s create some life.. or in many cases unlife.

Frankenstein’s Monster

Let us begin with the iconic Mary Shelly Creature..Frankenstein.. To determine what pokémon it has to be we first have to deduce it’s typing. In many cases we are dealing with undead so ghost types can apply basicly to everything.. but we will try to keep it diverse. However since it’s very much interwoven in Frankenstein’s monsters lore it is brought back from the dead.. I think we will keep that typing. The other element should be obvious as of course we go for the Electric type. Most monsters on this list probably would more or less function like a legendary. Narratively it would make sense that Frankenstein’s Pokemonster would follow the same brief. The Pokémon Professor of the Horror Region Professor Manchineel  (Yes that is a tree and it’s super scary) was once the champion of this region . He defended the world against the evil team but in the battle against their leader lost all his pokémon and the evil theme began to rule the region. Trying to bring back his old team his efforts were in vain.. he did not have enough power… but maybe… he could bring one of them back?!

For this design we will create a chimera of dead Pokémon. But how do we decide what Pokémon to pick?! Well we do that with an Easter Egg. Originally in Red and Blue there was a hidden “boss” fight against Oak. Presumably after the Pokémon League based on their levels. This fight was triggerable through glitching but wasn’t activatable anymore in game.  To homage that we are going to build the chimera out of Professor Oak’s team.  That is, Tauros, Exeggutor, Arcanine, Gyarados and the starter that wasn’t picked. Now since the correct answer to pick as your Gen I starter is Bulbarsaur that means the Rival would pick Charmander so Bulbasaur would be the one left behind. Trained up to a Blastoise he will become part of our Chimera. Yes I know more people love Charizard.. and thus Bulbasaur would be the one left behind…..but this is my list…also the head of Blastoise is much easier to cut out  and work with then Venusaur’s or Charizards so there! Tauros would form the main body with Arcanine legs and some Gyarados fins. The extra exeggutor heads  are added as extra heads this time..except.. this time we will use the main head..because that was the professors friend!

With Tauros as a main body we can basically say that it made the rest type neutral and being revived from the death we get the electric ghost monster we know as Frankenstein..but a pokémon version.Alternatively we could look at canonically dead Pokémon..but that’s a bit of a hassle. Using Tauros as it’s main body and a Blastoise head the creature also has the physical bulk you expect of a Frankstein’s monster. The body type makes it more suitable for physical attacks, which also seems to be in line with the classics. So for moves I think it should know Volt Tackle a strong electric physical move. Shadow Punch, Rock Smash and Recover are it’s other moves with Shadow Punch dealing Stab Damage, Rock Smash .. being a symbol for it’s smashing power and hopefully like with a few old moves we can get a base power increase for it somewhere as it would help as a great weakness coverage. As an ability Volt Absorb makes the most sense as it negates the power of electricity. The ability Simple will function as a second and possible hidden ability. State Wise I think the most comparable Pokémon would have to be Golurk, with offence and defence flipped. Chimerstein seems like a nice name for this Pokémon.

Dracula

So making a Pokémon about Dracula should not be too hard? Should it?! Well he is very humanoid so we are going to have to deviate from his design quite a bit here. Let’s start with his typing. He is undead rather than dead, so I think Dark is a fair base typing for him. However.. there is one problem. Dark ..while it does have moves like Bite… doesn’t have any leeching abilities.  In the Alola Region they finally made the move Leech Life Good with a great base power. I think that is Dracula’s de facto move! To use it efficiently however we have to make him a bug type! Dark-Bug seems like an odd typing for Dracula, but in the confines for Pokéon it really works. We will place it in the humanoid body shape and give it some lore to fit Dracula. “A Rich Boy and his Zubat once went on an adventure on a river when they saw strange leech like creature toppled their boat..no one ever saw them again” Leeches haven’t been much of a thing in Pokémon. So for this story.. a leech attached himself to a Rich Boy..while his Zubat tried to pull it off..eventually an evolution much like how Slowpoke evolves into Slowbro ..by having a Shelder bites its tail happens.. only this time a human was involved.

Designwise this puts us a bit in a pickle! Do we make it look very human? No.. people don’t really like that. Do we give it too many clothes.. no, it will have a cloak that will look like it’s made out of spider web.. or some kind of pupa covering some silken cloth or something fancy. .It’s face will be hooded but underneath will be a leechy face.. similar to Digmon’s Nightmare Leech.  Then it will have a crobat like wings but larger. It’s shape is humanoid but only in shape. It will definately be one of the creepier Pokémon you encounter. The mix and match of body shapes will allow for a wide moveset befitting Dracula. Pokédex entries could state that the pokémon is afraid of wooden poles as the last thing the boy part remembers was his raft breaking. Or rumors that you can defeat this Pokémon with a single Solar Beam.
It is so ugly that it can not face it’s own reflection, crying over the handsome face it once had. And so we have designed a Dracula inspired Pokémon.

The Pokémon Ability it should have is Dry Skin. This is a rather complex ability but it gives our Dracula a weakness to fire and actually gives him damage under the direct sun. He absorbs water..which is kind of unfortunate..but Holy water seems more like a Fairy Type thing anyway… and Dracula would be weak to that. The ability of course represents his weakness to the sun.. but it also works well with the moisture rich leech part! So hey I am happy with that.  As moves Bite and Leech Life are a given and I feel Mist or Haze would make a good supportive move.. well not GOOD but flavourful. The last move should be something in the lines of Hypnosis, Charm, Attract or anything of the sorts. Of course he would be able to learn some other things such as Transform, Phantom/Shadow Force and all the Drain moves. Stat Wise I feel it should be something like Mega-Lucario. Good names would be Draculeech, Leechferatu or Tepeech.

The Wolfman

So for this one I have something special planned, the wolfman is a hard one to give a typing too. It seems very much a normal type.  There is no real element to connect it too. We could give it the dark type again but what if you want to run an all monsters team?! Plus Normal Dark isn’t really a good typing at all. So instead for a secondary typing we look at an important element for a werewolf.. the moon. The moon is very much connected to the Fairy Type on numerous occasions.  Many of the Moon stone evolutions are Fairy Types.  The move moonlight and Moon Blast are both fairy type attacks and Clefairy is said to live on the moon. Which again IS a Fairy type. Plus this would make our Pokémon to be weak to steel type attacks.. mimicking it’s weakness to silver! It would also be efficient against fighting types.. and as you all know punching a werewolf is a very bad idea so that makes sense. Most werewolf movies are about the transformation process about being cursed to be a werewolf and for this I think I have a perfect answer.

We came up with a new regional form. Horrorian Ditto, The Ditto from the Horror region.  Being a silverish slime with wolf-eyes, a tuft of fur  and a wolf-fang would form the basis for this pokémon. Normally Ditto has the ability transform, which lets it transform into the pokemon it is facing straight away. However Horrorian Ditto will do the exact opposite. If it hits the opponent with a physical attack.. it’s specially designed ability will trigger. Fur-Curse.. which will transform any pokemon it hits into Horrorian Ditto. This resembles the involuntary transformation aspect about lycanthrophy very well. Regional Ditto would be a great way to take your opponents ace away and force them to have a flexible strategy that doesn’t rely on a single pokemon! With Eviolite you can make sure your variation is much sturdier.. but YES Eviolite! Because we need to add more wolves! When exposed to a moonstone this Ditto will evolve. Taking the shape of an almost liquid werewolf still transforming with some parts being thinner and slimier. He seems to be in constant pain..this new form shares its ability still but now is much more powerful.. but as a trade off you can give your opponent something THAT powerful too.

This new werewolf form of Ditto shall be known as Idemoon. This is a portmanteau of Idem and Moon… Ditto got its name sake from the latin expression Idem dito. A phrase mostly used having the same mindset or wishing them the same you just wished upon them. It also has a bit of a sound like it’sa demon. Idemoon would be a bit like better Slaking. Statwise  it isn’t AS amazing but it can attack every turn, it just changes it’s opponent in itself with a contact move meaning you can never hit it super effectively.  This pokemon however will shine in double battles. You basically force your opponent into a typing you can always bring a counter to. Moves this Pokémon should learn are. Slash, Bite, Play Rough and Moonlight. It has a high stat total but a fairly low defence to make sure it can take itself out without making games needlessly stally. Slash and Play Rough are Normal and Fairy Type moves that get buffed by having the same attack type bonus and Bite… well it’s a wolfman after all.

Dr Jekyll and  Mister Hyde

For now I want to conclude this with one final pokémon the form of the classic by taking a spin on a pokémon that already does this kind of thing. Morepeko is a hamster that can be cute  when it’s full or evil when it’s hangry! It has a move that works very well but I want to do it better. So this monster really works well with that. Better Morepeko doesn’t need to be a Pikaclone so we can get rid of the pretty useless electric type. For the Mister Hyde side of things we can use the Dark Type.. in Japanese the thing is literally called evil type and it would work very well for Mister Hyde. The second typing could be the Fairy Type as more or less it’s natural opposite. However since Dr Jekyll is a scholar and a man of science and of the mind I think the psychic type makes more sense. This will later also come into play with the moves and such. Alternatively Fighting type could work for Hyde as he often is depicted as brawn..but this is not always the case. For the design I am thinking of it being a top hat. and a tophat just. With lore on how it was worn by a man who always doubted himself.. he wanted to help people but he also hated everyone.. one day the hat went mad and attacked its owner then immediately it tried to heal it again.

Why a Top hat? Well  I think it is a nice symbol for the tale and I love object pokémon. It also keeps the humanity aspect of the character but puts it in a monster much more in the vein of pokémon.Plus we can make a wink to the fact that it might be a had of the Mad hatter, and then we can cross this sort of blog over in Fairy Tales some day.  The Jekyll side of the hat would be colourful but simple, clean and gentlemanly.  It features a monocle and perhaps a cross to symbolise it belongs to a doctor so maybe we can add a moustache as well. In Hyde mode the hat would look torn, more chaotic darker.. but also more details… loose stitching, a bearded look and some tokens it can take from it’s victims. One of those things that looks like it will bite your head off. I think Morepeko design wise makes some very smart choices but it could have done more.

And here is how!  Aura Wheel might be cute as a move but I suggest an adapted ability which works as follows.  This pokémon gets the moves. Heal Pulse a Psychic Support move to heal adjacent team members, Dark Pulse an Offensive Dark Special move.. because.. it’s a Hat .. it can’t physically attack. Amnesia , to boost it’s defences and explain the weird memory lapses the character experiences and Milk Drink..I know that last one seems a bit weird but it is the closest move there is to pokemon chugging a potion..since potions in pokemon work as sprays! It provides healing and you will want that on this pokémon because it has an ability similar to Hunger Switch.. just more useful. We will probably call it Potion Chug as well or Face Swap.It comes with an extra. If you use Heal Pulse while in Jekyll form you get a random stat increased.. kind of like Acupressure the move. The same happens if Mister Hyde uses a dark pulse.  Of course this pokémon can forget Milk Drink and Amnesia for moves like Psychic and Bounce..so your Opponent is always guessing when will you buff and when will you go against the grain.Kind of like this duo! Their name shall be……

I don’t know actually! So how about I leave that up to you?! How should we name this pokémon?! Let me know in the comments and the best one gets a shoutout and becomes the official name for this thing! For now the monster making is done and I will crawl back to stir in my cauldron! I could use a new broom to fly on by the way! So if you happen to have broom money laying about consider supporting my Ko-Fi and ensure you won’t be stitched into my next monster! I am probably joking anyway.. but who knows!

What a Terrible Night to Have a Curse: Pokémon Cursed Review!

Hello again my mortals! I wonder what potions I could make out of you!  It’s Halloween Month on Paradise!  So I am offering a lot of Halloween content! That means taking a break from most of my regular posts to find some spooky content! This can be a bit tricky for Pokémon! But recently I heard rumors of a very special Pokémon game that is amazing for Halloween. Today  I am talking about a Rom Hack called Pokémon Cursed.

Halloween in Saffron City

This is a Halloween themed game… although I must say “game”  might be a big word. This game is a Rom Hack of Pokémon Red but it offers only about 15 minutes of gameplay. It has a good and a bad ending… maybe even two bad endings.. depending on how you interpret things. It is up to you the kid of Sabrina to survive a very creepy Halloween. You only have your trusty Marrowak to help you and a cute Halloween costume to go trick or treating with. The game features some mini events and a nice little story that is a perfectly great Halloween adventure paying some homage to a classic little ghost story. That even involves you Trick or Treating across Saffron.  Some spooky tree decals complete the atmosphere.
You and your mother Sabrina are holding your classical Halloween Tradition of battling. However this is the year you finally win….at least if you know how to play Pokémon. Winning with a Marowak is no easy feat! In fact it is VERY easy for you to make the game rather impossible to win.

When the title-card has nothing to do with the game, you know you are in trouble!

As expected you will be dealing with a lot of ghosts in Saffron City! However these ghosts  are all Gen 1 Pokémon. That means Gastley, Haunters and Gengar. Three Pokémon that have the Ability Levitate, which makes them immune to ground type moves.. and they are ghost and poison types.  Meaning they are also immune to fighting and normal type moves!
Now wouldn’t you know, Marowak at that level this game is played at (24-32)  ONLY knows normal and ground type offensive moves! So you are up a creek without a paddle straight from the get go! Luckily there is one move that can change the tides! Marowak has the move Foresight.. a move that can “identify” ghost types! While it is never specified by game text that means now a ghost can be hit by normal type moves. IF you go trick or treating first and try to replace this normally worthless move you lose the game then and there! There is no option to back out and you have to start from scratch… unfortunately that “oversight”  shows a design mentality that completely sours this game for me.

Haunter! Marowak has a bone to pick with you!

Horror or Horrible

This game requires a basic knowledge of pokémon strategies, if you do not know how to play Pokémon this game is fairly impossible for you.  It isn’t clear about having multiple endings and kind of feels like a  .exe  game .. which always ends badly! So even if you manage to “finish” the game you might think there is just a bad ending. This game makes it feel that it just has a bad ending. The bad ending isn’t that cleverly written and doesn’t feel all that creepy!  It tries  to play into the “ghost of lavender town” hype but by choosing Saffron City as a setting .. there is a disconnect with that myth! There is an explanation.. towards the end of the good ending that actually makes this an interesting bit of lore but unfortunately the way to reach that ending is…. almost near impossible without a walkthrough! So while I will not tell you where to find all things I will tell you what you need to find.

By having your flesh eaten you turn from a GBA sprite to a Game Boy Colour one! Creepy!

The goal in this game is to find 5 ghost shards.. but you do not know that. It is never said you need them! It isn’t even really implied.  You  get Castlevania 2 like descriptions like “I saw them falling from the sky, use this to find them!  This problem becomes increasingly worse when you realise that the item you should use  to find the items doesn’t work. You get an item finder but since the Ghost Shards do not seem to count as official items, for some reason the Itemfinder does not detect them. Which means the brunt of the gameplay is pressing the A button on every tile. Until you find them! Unfortunately they are also not at logical spaces like behind a crate.  They literally can be anywhere! So that already makes the game basically unplayably annoying. But silly as I am … I actually  hunted for the items and found half of them… a YouTube walkthrough helped me find the additional two! But I stopped there! I wanted to find the rest myself.. I proudly marched into the executive office ..hoping the shards would help ..but no….So without any hints you have to figure out how to proceed. So I went to talk to every single NPC I could find again.. but not a single hint….*sigh* I guess I will interact with all random items.

I have a Ghost Glock and a Ghost Desert Eagle!

A computer earlier gave me a mystery message, so I figured that was where I would start. It did not work.. but another random computer worked! Yay I guess?!t told me the elevator had unlocked and it did not.. instead on a normal wall somewhere in the building a secret elevator had spawned……… a random elevator spawned after interacting with a random item.  That elevator takes you to the final battle.. I got wiped in that battle. Your evil father shows up and he has a Porygon that is setting up powerful attacks.. Eventually he one shots you with Tri-Attack.. if he doesn’t his second Pokémon has priority moves which will without a doubt finish you off. You are going to catch a Ghost Pokémon to nullify his Porygon.. but there are no Pokéballs in this game… unless….. you interact with a specific cabinet in the game. Dear Rom Hacker..placing items in random spots is not a puzzle! But I must admit playing through this is rather horrifying. I was scared I would not be able to finish a simple pokémon game. There is no Pokémon game I can not finish! So I endured.

That is right! One of those people stupid enough to play this “game”

Deader than a Ghost

Is that everything that sucks about this game? Unfortunately no! To catch the ghost Pokémon there are a few trainers that are actual ghosts you can fight. Because they look like people IF you play Pokémon they look like trainers.. so it seems like you can’t catch them. Actually you can… but if you are anything like me  by the time you can do this you have already defeated all the ghosts you can battle… luckily there is a way  to battle new ghosts…. you talk to random people multiple times in a row making them repeat their dialogue six or seven times.  Because that of course is the instinctual way to catch Pokémon. All in all this game is really an unplayable mess of non logic that is barely even a game! There are two interesting battles in the game, against both parents and I really liked the battle puzzle idea they went for.

This happens every time I let a friend sleep on my couch after a night of drinking!

Unfortunately that puzzle needs to be solved once and after it is just a rinse and repeat.
The game tries it’s best to help you get some boundaries to the world but unfortunately  that is oftenly glitched. I spent over 30 minutes searching a room after I discovered I could clip into it.. I felt it was a secret entrance and I needed it.. .it was a glitch however and time was wasted. My player sprite had some issues at times, Focus Energy the move does not seem to work properly and the fact that you can deadlock yourself at multiple moments forcing a complete restart makes this 15 minute game still a slog to get trough! If you need to find the items you are searching WAAAAAY longer.

Because Candy > Family

I expected a lot of this game as I saw it in a top 10 scary Pokémon games. Clearly that list only based it on scariness and not on quality as this rom hack has NO quality!  The good thing I will say about it is that it is cool to be Sabrina’s daughter celebrating Halloween with her. The audacity to make Blaine the dad however.. two characters who weren’t even close in age or demeanour ruin the idea of having an evil dad. The spooky tree texture in the background of the city is the best idea this game has. Mamma Sabrina is  great as well .. I really like it!  But yeah that’s it… as much as I want to like a Halloween game more this isn’t it!

I love those trees though!

If you want a spooky Pokémon game you are most likely better off playing Pokémon Snakewood , I gave that my lowest rating before but at least it offers some content!  The first five hour of that game is fun and it has Kamina as a trainer. The quest for a good Pokémon Horror game goes on. Where I compared Snakewood to watching Family guy but as a pokémon experience I guess this one is like watching Troll 2 with the funny scenes taken out.  I am really sorry for the Pokémon games I still love you… I just really dislike this game!
But  I am keeping Sabrina’s daughter canon!

Lowest Score on the Spook Meter.. and since it isn’t a game.. it doesn’t even get a cocktail flavour!

Looking for Pokémon Halloween content turned out to be a bust.. so I guess I have to make some myself…..wait.. make some myself…..that gives me an idea!!! Mwuhahahahaha. Mwuhahahahahahaha! Mwuhahahahaha! Oh.. right! If you feel wish to pass on some money to be in case the ghosts get to you before you get to enjoy it, feel free to help me out via Ko-fi! I suspect a big fictional electricity bill is soming…as well as some real stuff of course! Check out my Ko-Fi page to see what ever project it is that I am working on. Projects! Mwuahahahaha.

Death by Steel : Pinkie’s First Pokémon Randomiser Nuzlocke Journal Part I

Hello Dear Island Guests! It is time for a new Pokémon series! While this one will not be weekly I am going to share my adventures of the first ever Nuzlocke I will try to complete! Every so often I will update you on my adventures in a journal form!  Taking you through my first ever Nuzlocke in the game Pokémon Heart Gold… but with a twist! Every Pokémon is Randomised.

About the Nuzlocke

What is a Nuzlocke you might wonder? Well it is a special way of playing trough Pokémon.
In it you have to nickname all your Pokémon, you can only catch one pokémon per route and only your first encounter ..and if you miss it.. no luck! If you encounter a Pokémon you already have you can  search for another though.  If a pokémon is reduced to 0HP in battle and it faints it is considered dead and you have to box it or release it and can not use it during your challenge again. If you lose your entire team you lose the Nuzlocke and have to start all over again. Then there are  several ways to play, like in some forms your items are limited or you can not leave a gym once you enter it.  Since I don’t want to be too depressed I made a few light rule tweeks.  So here are my rules:

Randomiser Details

-Pokémon have been randomised, thus I play this game emulated, I do own a legal copy of the game but for entertainment purposes a randomiser seems more fun. Because I know this game by heart and it is a lot more fun to highlight random Pokémon. Every Pokemon deserves love!
-Pokémon will also have their abilities randomised! This makes things a lot more fun! However evolutions and movesets will not be randomised.. their teachable move capabilities HAVE been randomised as .. I love randomness but I am not a strong enough Pokémon player to be prepared for ANY move! I got to have some structure.
-Starters are randomised into anything, and legendaries have been randomised into other legendaries. All trainers have randomised trainer class names and personal names just for fun.
-Items that can be found on the ground are randomised as well as pokémon held items!
-If I ever lose the game I have to make a new randomisation so I don’t know what is ahead.

In Game Rules

-If A Pokémon Faints it dies and has to be boxed. Since I made sure everyone can learn all HM’s I can not use dead hm slaves. HM moves can only be taught to one party member to make sure I don’t spam surf or fly.
-If I encounter a duplicate pokémon I can search for a new pokémon on that route OR I can catch it to add a life to that Pokémon I already have.
-If I get knocked out by early Dragon Rage, or get stuck on an early Wonder Guard user I am allowed to keep the knocked out Pokémon in return for discarding all my Pokéballs or healing items.
-If I encounter a shiny I am allowed to try and capture it! However it then MUST be used on the team.
-I am allowed to grind and leave gyms!  I am not allowed to hack in rare candies to skip a grind.
-Mom has to collect money for me.. she is so happy to help me out.. it would be rude to tell her no!

With that ruleset I was ready to play my randomised copy of Heart Gold which I named Pokémon Pink Gold! I also made a nice visual for that so I can skip this block of text next time and keep you all updated even if you aren’t reading!

Today I became a Pokémon Trainer

I woke up groggily in my like 32 bit bed! Mom called! Today I was supposed to help Professor Elm out  with a Chore! I hobbled down the stairs and saw mom sitting at the dining room table. She gave me my Pokégear for my adventure even if I had no Pokémon.. a person can’t do without their gear. Before I left she also gave me a cellphone and a bag! It isn’t even my birthday Mamma! How sweet of you! Then she said she had something else that seemed pretty useful and she gave me the possibility to save and an options Menu!  That is super nice! The mamma I have in the real world never gave me an options menu! Perhaps that is why I am such a NEET now! After I got so many new stuff I ventured outside. The Neighbour Kid Ethan was out there playing with his Marill. Man he sure liked to run that thing in my face!  I did not have a Pokémon!  He reminded me that Professor Elm was looking for me! .. Jeez thanks Ethan.. he is the reason I got up this early in the afternoon!

So I waddled over to the Pokémon Lab. I am not a strong walker so it felt a bit sluggish but eventually got there. There was a suspicious kid standing in front of the window and he shoved me off when I asked him what he was doing! Super rude! I got inside and Professor Elm told me that he had a friend named Mister Pokémon who made an amazing discovery.  He was tied up at the lab and he needed someone he could trust to go there. Despite having like three aides.. it was me he chose to send.. Odd to send a 10 year old to gather important research but hey!  He told me I would get a Pokémon so I had no complaints.  I walked up to a machine holding three Pokéballs. One held a Hitmonlee, one held a Feebas and one Held a Vigoroth.  Feebas I think is actually useless in this game, I am not sure if you could even evolve it and I am not getting far in a Nuzlocke with a pokémon that only knows Splash.
So I had to choose between either Vigoroth or Hitmonlee! Since Vigoroth would evolve once more and would turn into a Slaking who doesn’t know the ability Truant but instead has a Random ability I chose him!  He had a nice beard so I decided to name it Raist.

Raist and me set out to travel to the tall grass! We saw a few amazing Pokémon along our way to Mister Pokémon’s house. We leveled him up until he was almost level 10.. since he already evolved once his leveling took a bit longer than a random pokémon like .. let’s say Cyndaquil would take. On route 29 I saw a Machamp which would compliment my new friend nicely.   There was also a Heatran and a Houndoom there so straight away we had some good options!  Yet we did not have pokéballs yet so for now it had to wait! On route 30 we fought a few Uxie so we even had some legendary options.  I was looking forward to it all. Yet first we had an errand to run! We encountered an old man who had magical shoes! When you wear these shoes. a person would develop the ability to RUN! He gave me a pair that he had on him! It is kind of creepy that an old man who shows a 10 year old girl around town hands you shoes in your size.. but let’s be honest! He already had these running shoes on himself.. if the creep guy could run and I could not I would be in much more trouble so I accepted them.. he later came running after me.. to give me a map.

After fleeing from that creep I walked into some random guys house who was so glad to see me that he gave me a little satchel to store Apricorns in. This is hard fruit in rainbow colours that a man named Kurt might be able to turn into pokéballs for me! I accepted the gift.. looted his tree and traveled on to Mister Pokémon’s place.. who had a visit from the famous Professor Oak. The man talked about a lot of stuff , mostly promoting his radio show and then he gave me an egg for Professor Birch and a pokédex.. okay so this was his discovery? How is Mister Pokemon evolved?! If you have traveled so far why would you not go the extra mile to see Birch yourself?! The discovery that pokémon might hatch from eggs seems like a big responsibility to leave to ten year old me! But hey it got me cool stuff! I was now an official pokémon trainer! Or so I thought!  A phone call from professor Elm would change a lot. I had to rush back home.. as something terrible had happened.

Pinkie makes new Friends

Using the perverts shoes, I sped as home as quickly as I could! I had full confidence in Raist’s abilities as an evolved pokémon and then we encountered that red haired Douchebag from before! We fought him and Raist  smoked his ass. He carried an exeggcute! It was no match for my wild white beast!.. it even got Raist to level 10. The trainer dropped his passport.. which all trainers carry on them and I saw that Red Douche’s name was Indigo! He told me that he would become my rival and he would get stronger. I shrugged and ran off! It turns out that Indigo stole a pokémon from Professor Elm! .. Well he certainly did not take it from the machine then.. but no time to dwell on that.  I handed over the egg to be done with my responsibilities.  The professor was shocked that eggs existed.. even though we are in a remake taking place in a generation that already invented these features! Later remakes would tackle that issue a lot better!  But hey I played along and as payment I could keep Raist. Well yeah.. I already named it guy! I was gonna keep it anyway!

I walked outside and Ethan was in the grass with his Marril..he showed me how to catch a pokémon and handed me five Pokéballs!  Now I could make new friends yay!  However Raist disagreed! He killed both my encounter on route 29 as well as the one on route 46.. which had a small patch of grass you could pick pokémon up from! He both killed a Yanma and a Mankey! I guess he did not like to share!  So we had a little talk and I told him that if he had some Tomodachi it might mean he would live longer..as I showed it Yanma’s broken corpse he nodded showing me he would be more careful on route 30! There we were lucky enough to encounter one of those Uxie Legendaries again…but I ran out of pokéballs and we failed to get Raist a friend. I sold everything I had to scrounge up a few pokéballs for route 31 and there we finally encountered a cute Gorbebyss which is a pink fish pokémon wearing a purple shell bikini like thing. It is a Pokémon that sucks up it’s opponents bodily fluids as a way of battling. Since it was rather pink and happy as well as a male I decided to name it Dylan.  In a nearby cave I discovered a quagsire I named Heather. She was so durable and sturdy!   I leveled Dylan and Heather up a bit by murdering some Uxie and Zubat as well as killing the Pokémon of former Bugcatcher now turned dancer!  As he sat there among his dead pokémon I merrily continued my way to that blasted city!

Raist had reached level 11, with Heather and Dylan being at 8! I knew there was some work to be done before I could face the gymleader.. believing his ace to be at level 12. So first I went to some ruins to the south of the city where I solved the ancient puzzle of the Unown in like… 30 seconds or so! How did no one ever solve this before?!  If it was a complete slide puzzle I could understand but this was about as hard as one of those children’s block puzzles with a square shaped hole a triangle hole and a round hole!  I caught myself a Misdreavous there which I named Mallow. In a patch of grass I also found a Snubull which I named Lyn. My team of friends was beginning to grow!

 |, ||,||, |_

We were nowhere near ready to face Falkner though so.. it was off to beat up some monks! Which usually are fairy big pushovers. With random Pokémon though it turned out to be a tad harder. As I had killed two monks entire teams without much effort it was up to Heather to level up next. During one fight a monk sent out Kabuto! I had switched out of Heather before as his former pokémon was a grass type and she is 4x weak to that and Mallow fought in her stead. Upon switching in to the Kabuto Heather missed a Mud Slap or Mud Shot.. I always confuse those  and the pokemon used a water gun on her. Quagsire is a Bulky pokémon so she took it fairly well. I could easily survive even a critical hit of that. Heather surely could obliterate this tiny Kabuto. Her second attack missed again.. and that’s when it happened.  Kabuto revealed to have the move Absorb! .. I did not expect it.. I didn’t even know it learned that move.. and just like that Heather was gone! Drained of all life! My Quagsire was dead!

Misdreavous exacted revenge for Heather and we destroyed all the monk’s left! It gave us a useless TM . Indigo had also just fought all the monks so the place was literally littered with piles of dead Pokémon! While he got an escape rope.. I got a chople berry! So I had to walk past all the corpses again. On the way down I found a Cleffa I named Meg. We gave Heather a small burial and went on to take down the Gym Leader Falkner. While everything was randomised for some reason every gym trainer got given a ghost pokémon so we had to use a lot of potions to keep Mallow alive. We went back out to stock up again and I realised I got a lot less money than I would have hoped for! I bought three potions and healed everyone up and it was time to face the gym leader .. Falkner!  Little did I know I would discover about THAT power I had.. or that this would already be the last battle I would ever have with my new friends.

We started out fine.. Falkner opened up with Spinarak!  Mallow eats tiny spiders for breakfast and with a few ghostly moves it was gone..then the message on the screen read. Dancer Laura is about to Sent In Registeel.. Do you wish to swap Pokémon?! Excuse me?!  Registeel?! I also forgot I boosted levels a bit..thinking it would let me grind faster as well.. and so came a level 15 Registeel! I kept Mallow in, knowing sometimes the Regi’s get Explosion at an early level hoping that it could explode and we would be fine! Yet it used Metal Claw.. a high power metal type physical move that can boost attack.. sometimes. Of course he got the attack boosts!  I swapped in Megan and Lyn as sacrificial lambs.. while I came up with a strategy.. and both were clawed in half.  Then.. I swapped in Raist.. hoping it might trigger him using explosion, switching back into Mallow.. hoping for a miracle. The metal cleaved the little ghosty as it could no longer maintain it’s form! It fades away from the after life into complete death.  Raist came out next and he could take two hits.. such a champion he went down fighting!  Next was Dylan.. perhaps he could use confusion to keep the steel giant in place… but no!  My little pink fish soon got turned into sushi!.

Surrounded by my dead friends Falkner laughed at me diabolically and in panic I passed out!  However Falkner’s gym is several  meters in the air.. lets say about five or six stories high. And you walk through him on a balancing beam.. so passing out did not end well for me! I fell six stories down and left a pinkish red crater in the floor.. I was dead!  Then suddenly … I woke up again.. I was in my own bed!  Mom called me downstairs.. and said Professor Elm had a chore for me.. she handed me .. a bag.. a cell phone and even an options menu! What was going on here?  Outside Ethan stuffed his Marill in my face again… but something was different. Out in the grass to the West I heard other pokémon.. instead of Magikarp swimming in the river to the east there was a Kricketune.. what was going on? There was only one possibility! I returned by death! And the world becomes more randomised!  I stepped in the lab of Professor Elm as he told me for the second time, my very first pokémon adventure was about to begin!Mallow, Heather, Raist and Dylan you will be remembered. Lyn and Megan.. you were just death fodder! You will return.. in the next life!…maybe!
