Pinkie Writes: What if Ash was a Girl Redux: The Kanto Story

Hello again little lights! Did you know Moth’s love beer and bananas?! No that doesn’t have to do anything with today’s story I just wanted to say it! Wait does that mean I am drunk all the time?!  I don’t want to rip off Irina! Maybe she is a moth… then again.. she could just be Russian.  Lamp!  Uhm! Anyway it is time to rewrite Anime. What If Ash was a girl was one of more popular SEO things.. so I decided to pick it up again, as I strive for being a Moth VTuber. Let’s take another look at this story from the eyes of a Moth VTuber.. from far above.. and a little more impatient.. so rather than a series we will cover the entire first season in a single episode.

From Ash to Ashley

Ash is a late 90’s anime character that functions a bit as a blank slate. He is the son of Delia and Ketchum and (unknown father)  I am not even sure if he is a Ketchum or she started using her maiden name again. What we DO know about Ash father.. is that he is a Pokémon Trainer who to this day wanders the world to be a Pokémon Master. However since he never came up we can assume his achievements are.. nothing to write home about. Travelling without getting results. Thus Ash is almost a carbon copy of his father.. at least for season 1.  In the late 90’s the boy character would be a copy of the father while the girl character is a copy of her mother.. with a twist here and there.. and so we can establish a good baseline for Ashley!   Ashley would be a very different person than Ash.. as she would more likely be much more like Delia than the father. Which will result in some interesting changes in this journey. Delia having a more educative mind would mean Ashley would be a bit more studious and way less rebellious.  Since the Ketchum household does not have a man of the house it would also mean professor Oak  would probably have a much closer connection to Ashley!  In the pictures we see him take care of Delia in her husband’s absence so with no man there that offer would extend to Ashley!

This will lead to Ashley being much more knowledgeable about Pokémon from the get go but also a lot less brash.. It will also lead to Ashley not having a Pikachu as her starter.  As a result of her more girly upbringing she would have watched the study program her mom would recommend , rather than a battle show that makes Ash toss his Alarm clock to shreds. Ashley being like Delia much likely has all sorts of plushies around to grab instead.. plus Delia being  closer to her daughter would make sure she would wake up in time.. as well as Ashley herself having set the Alarm way earlier…after packing plenty of underwear. Ashley would arrive at professor Oak on time, knowing a lot more about what it would take to become a Pokémon master.. researching like her mentor.  Thus she would pick Bulbasaur as her starter.. naming it Flora.. because those who don’t nickname their Pokémon are terrible people! Like naming your dog, dog! Since she is more like Delia, she takes care of her stuff better. Naming her plushies and all that, which she will also do with her Pokémon.

Note: The Ashley Models are actually based on Episodes off Ash Crossdressing. He does this about four times in the entire series .. I simply recolored to match Delia more closely

Bye Bye Butterfree

Ashley would set off on her journey and like Ash encounter the spearow and pidges. However.. since Ashley has always been  protected she lacks Ash bravery and boldness. Instead she sees a flying Pokémon and it is super effective against her Bulbasaur, she would not dare to fight. At one point she would just flee from an angry looking Spearow and run away screaming. This would lead her to meet up to Misty who gets her Tsundere mode activated because Ashley is scaring away the fish. The two begin to talk and Ashley calms down.  Seeing a girl in a dress with all her underwear wrapped in plastic, rubber kitchen gloves and who knows what else in her backpack makes Misty be curious how this girl would be a trainer. She seems more like a Housewife. Hearing Misty talk about water Pokémon would interest Ashley however.. those are weak against her Flora, she could catch one of those. Misty teaches her how to fish and the two bond a bit.  Misty has a bit of a youngest sister complex.. but this girl makes her feel like an older sister a bit. She decided to teach the girl her ways and travel together until she reaches Cerulean city.. with Ashley learning to catch a Pokémon and catching a Poliwag.. naming it Dewdrop.Misty reveals her Staryu earlier.  Since no Pokémon are hurt the pair doesn’t go to the Pokécenter. Team Rockets raids the Pokémon Center and gets away.  Since the pair of Misty and Ashley had no urgency they would arrive later, only seeing another successful rate by Team Rocket.

Passing through town Ashley would pick up a strange yellow stone, she has no idea what it is.. and it seems to have fallen from the sky. Something seems to be inside it, this will come into play later and assures we can keep Team Rocket an element in the story. They go to the police office to turn it in but Jenny refuses to take it.. it’s just a stone.  Ashley calls up Oak and tells her she is in Viridian city like Ash did.. Professor Oak tells her it looks like amber.  The next day  Misty and Ashley travel into viridian forest and encounter Ash caterpie like usual.. but Ashley is a girly girl.. so she is scared of bugs! They run away and Caterpie feels a bit sad. No Caterpie means no food to distract Pidgeotto.. so no Pidgeotto either. Ashley does notice though there are a lot of flying Pokémon.. so in the Viridian forest she actually finds.. a Pikachu.. they are there and Ashley constantly has encountered so many flying types would want something to deal with that. Ashley’s Pokémon will be Gender swapped from the ones Ash will have, so all her Pokémon so far are female.  She does manage to catch a Pikachu which she names Amber.. after that weird yellow stone. Ashley would tend to groom her Pokémon a bit.. dress them up, because as per Delia’s advise.. she carries WAAAAAY to much stuff. Rather than facing the Samurai in Viridian forest, here the pair will encounter Team Rocket for the first time.  They want that stone back.  Knowing they are Criminals Misty refuses.. even though Ashley wants to avoid conflict.. the pair get in a fight and using her new Pikachu , Ashley wins her first battle.. Less convincingly so though!  Team Rocket then plans to get the Old Amber from Ashley for their boss.

Note: In Pokémon Games it is a semi tradition that female trainers have female Pokémon, this only came into play later.. but since Ashley nicknames Pokémon and grooms them it comes into play earlier. Also girly Pokémon were already shown in the series hence the decision

A Sweeter Brock

With a team like Poliwag and Flora you would think Ashley would not lose to Brock.. however since she was afraid to battle her pokémon had no battle experience causing her first loss. Flint helps her train up her Pokémon and discover some battle spirit along with Misty trying to help as a training partner. Misty already reveals her Starmie.. allowing Flora and Amber to train against it.. unlike Ash , Ashley DOES win her first gym badge legit on her second try.. Brock sees her growth and that same desire he had when with Ash would occur. He would join them on their journey.. trying to seduce Ashley a bit but Misty harshly puts him under control.. like she normally does.  Traveling with two girls Brock’s demeanour would be a bit less Casanova and instead make the seduction a bit more subtle.  Since Ashley is knowledgeable , Brock doesn’t need to be the exposition canon he is in the original, nor does he have to be the constant chef. He needs a bit of an alternate function so instead of cooking, he actually makes pastries.. making actual Jelly filled Donuts and of course still his Pokésnacks. He also functions a bit like a motivator for Ashley.. he often tries to defend the party but will often get taken down forcing Ashley to step in..so in a way he is like.. pastry chef Krillin.. in terms of roles.

During the next part for a while there won’t be any major changes in the story. The only difference is that in the fight between Ashley and Misty.. which in the original got interrupted by Team Rocket, is already over by the time they step in. Ashley knows Misty well and she already has more insight in her team and with Delia’s character evaluating abilities she easily outstratgesises the impatient Tsundere girl.. slowly we see Ashley come to enjoy battles more. Mostly though when she knows she can win!  Team Rocket gets defeated as well like always.  The Poké Tech university episode we will retcon as the introduction of levels in the anime was retconned anyway! Instead they encounter a school where they play Pokémon Card battles.. those cards had levels and just would be a sport of its own! Cross Promotion to sell other media seems like a good pokémon thing as well.  Everything at the school got retconned later so might as well get some mileage out of it.

Next we get to the point where Ash caught his Starters.. however there is a problem. Squirtle and Bulbasaur in particular are redundant to Ashley’s team.. so instead all three of our heroes get one each. Brock catches the Bulbasaur using his Zubat, Misty catches the Squirtle as it’s a water Pokémon and Ashley gets the Charmander. Ashley is a lot more careful with her catches so she does not hit her catching limit as fast as Ash. However during the Gary encounter it is revealed she has a major crush on Gary.. who in return has no respect for her. During the first part she would not have met him. Ash saw Gary leaving and he was late and live far away. So Gary must have been kind of late as well.. thus not have an encounter with Ashley early on.. at least he would not have picked a starter yet. Because she was there a lot in his youth he keeps thinking of her like an annoying little cousin and being a total jerk like he normally would. “Smell you later” makes Ashley think he likes her perfume and she is in some heavy denial, looking up to Gary and his giant Krabby she goes looking for her own.. Tiny Krabby is caught but only after seeing Gary’s first.. Ashley, missing two Pokémon however still has room in her team so Krabby stays in the party.

A Better Trainer

The whole “No Thunderstone” event in the third gym doesn’t happen. Ashley would not use a Pikachu against Lieutenant Surge anyway, her electric attacks are not effective. Instead she is worried about this battle, and Brock offers to trade his Geodude for her Krabby, (since the trade on the SS Anne won’t happen because there is no Butterfree)  she agrees but like Ash with his Butterfree decides to trade it back and face the gym with her very own Pokémon. She already got attached to Ruby. Here we see her take an Ash-like Strategy for the first time, making Poliwag hypnosis Surge Magnemite and having Charmander take it down afterwards. (Which is super effective, because Steel typing would be a thing even if it’s not discovered yet) The second fight is Bulbasaur versus Raichu and using Leech Seed, Ashley wins this battle. .realising that Surge quickly evolved Raichu will lack speed. She wins her third badge and Poliwag evolves into Poliwhirl. One major Retcon on the SS Anne event i would like to make is that James isn’t as cruel to his Magikarp.. it is later established that he is such a sweet guy to his pokémon even if they aren’t strong enough. He doesn’t buy the Magikarp at all because him having a Gyarados would kind of be overpowered. Instead he spends his money on trading cards and gets a “rare” card.. that is just a sticker taped over a Magikarp. The rest of this part happens as per usual.

Now events won’t change until the Sabrina gym, though Brock and Misty begin to comment on Ashley not catching a sixth Pokémon. Ashley however says she doesn’t want to send a Pokémon to someone else unless she absolutely needs to .. she won’t catch a Pokémon in vain and then have it not of use to her! Once again taking more after Delia. The Sabrina fight would see Ashley overwhelmed, however.. being the knowledgeable type and an understudy of Oak she knows that getting a Ghost is kind of useless.. after all the only ghost type here is weak to Psychic. Instead she discovers the laughing trick herself. She sends in Krabby and Sabrina chuckles at it’s size and Kadabra chuckles as well. Ashley will let Krabby make funny faces and foam beards and beat Sabrina with it! Brock remarks that Ashley has super sharp training instincts..(much like Ash does)  but also has some  serious knowledge and ghost type wasn’t good in her time! Also.. we are not making how often she dies into a meme! So no getting crushed to death my a chandelier!

Different but the Same

From here on out we see mostly small changes or seemingly small. Ashley does catch the Primeape like Ash does, the cap Primeape stole however is in her bag! Her father left the hat, and she keeps it with her a lucky charm of sorts. Which means Primeape can actually keep the hat this time around. The Erika Badge is where Ash crossdresses for the first time.. however there is no need now, this means no Rocket intervention in the fight , but Ashley struggles a bit more due to not having anything that is effective against the Grass trainer other than Charmander.. which she did nickname Fresa by the way. Krabby was named Ruby and Primeape she named Captain. Captain helps her a lot in this fight as it is neutral against the Celladon city Gym Leader, while most her pokémon are ineffective. She really wants a flying type.. and maybe a Rock type to face ice and bug pokémon better as well and of course flying.

Why did I mention the nicknames? Because he liked the cap so much or she in this case. Why do I bring these nicknames up now? Because this is the point where Ash gave away Primeape his second pokémon, Ashley however never had a Butterfree to give away… and she won’t give up Primeape either.. since she nicknames everything she is even more bonded to her Pokémon so she can’t give it up.. Also  there aren’t that many fighting Pokemon and she would know!  Rather than leaving Primeape at the P1 challenge right now she promises that once they win the Pokémon League they will do this together!  Primeape wanting her to be part of that agrees. Captain stays! So will all her Pokémon.

Ashley catches Muk and like Ash finds it smelling nasty.. However after learning Koga is the next gym leader she keeps it on the team, Nicknaming it Amethyst, she sends Ruby to the professor for now.. but will be seen swapping Pokémon out a lot more than Ash so none of her Pokémon would feel neglected.. she would wear a little mask to  interact with Muk though. Most other events would stay the same except for some Pokémon choices.  Ashley instead of Tauros catches a Chansey which she names Fabergé in the Safari zone and an additional one to send to her mom to help her with household chores. Now that she is gone she wants to provide help for her mother! Much like Mr Mime did in the original.. but Ashley’s mind would go towards this a bit sooner. No insane amount of Tauros though.  No Tauros what so ever instead when Ash fails to catch the Snorlax.. Ashley succeeds and she replaces the Muk slot with it. She names it Moon. Why does she catch an original owned pokémon?.. It’s not owned this time.. and now having a Bulbasaur , A Pikachu, A Poliwhirl, an Old Amber and a Snorlax you might see where I am going.. Ashley’s team will evolve towards being more of a team that resembles Manga Red’s .. because the two have a more strategic mindset and it is less starter heavy, making them seem less OP and her more like a real trainer.

Ashley’s Charmander evolves and it begins to disobey her. Unlike Ash this means she doesn’t keep it on her team, she has a stern talk to it.. taking a bit from Misty’s teachings and just sends it to Professor Oak telling it to come back once it listens to her or it won’t battle anymore. She then takes back the Krabby since the next battle will be Blaine. The Togepi thing happens like in the anime.. but Ashley feels really upset Togepi chose Misty feeling something is wrong with her. She finds solace in her own Pokémon strengthening their bond. Nothing changes until the Blaine fight.. on Cinnabar Island Ashley would revive the Old Amber into Aerodactyl.. to stop Team Rocket from ever bothering her again. She names the pokemon Marble. Marble replaces Flora for the next fight while asking Flora to talk to Fresa at Oak’s. With  Ashley swapping Pokémon in and out the feeling arises that everyone is more a part of her team all of them come with her on the journey.

Like No One Ever Was

Ashley completely washes Blaine away and is beginning to win easier and easier, showing how much she has grown.  After getting troubled by Jigglypuff again, Ashley actually catches it, setting a trap for it while wearing Earplugs.  She is like her mother and wants to take care of it and the Jigglypuff clearly feels neglected. She can’t let that go so she goes out of the way for Jigglypuff to be included. She names it Sir Good Knight (as Jigglypuff Originally was a girl and all Pokémon get get swapped) and sets it to professor Oak for him to use it to tuck her Pokémon in.  Up until the Viridian gym battle we see no changes and even here there are very little changes. Team Rocket Battles Ashley and they are defeated as per usual.. however.. here Team Rocket is defeated for good! As we see them blast off again leaving the badge.. they fall into the Police station of the Jenny  where they robbed the Pokécenter first, they are put in jail and never return to the show again.

The Pokémon League starts the same, and most events that happen beforehand would take place in a very similar fashion.. again just with some minor battle variants. Gary would win and so would Ashley.. this time Ruby the Krabby evolves after ACTUALLY getting experience and it makes sense that it dominates the fight as Ashley actually trained it up pretty nicely! Ashley wins her second and third round without much trouble much like Ash and in the fourth round we see Gary get eliminated like he normally would. The bellsprout fight happens as per Usual except Ashley now Actually has  a bond with Muk so it makes more sense.

Ashley asks Gary to cheer her on.. but he tells her he doesn’t have time to see losers lose, or something else Gary likes.. Ashley gives up her toxic crush on Gary but has trouble focusing on her battle with Ritchie.  A mirror match,  in teams happens in the fact that both use their Pikachu with Ritchie’s one coming on top.  In the end due to a swapping error on Ashley’s behalf due to feeling so hurt by how cruel Gary was she sends off Fresa the disobedient Charmeleon having taken the wrong Pokéball from Oak wanting to get Captain or Snorlax or whomever. Charmeleon sees his master is heart broken and realises she will be more sad if she loses. She remembers being rescued by Ashley and how much she loved it .. realising how much a brat it had become Charmeleon evolves into Charizard and beats Richie’s Pokemon. Ashley moved to the final 8.

Captain, Moon, Flora, , Fresa, Amethyst and Marble would carry her into the final four!  Ruby, Amber, Dewdrop Fabergé and even Sir Good Knight would carry her to the final. A parcel would be delivered to her.. from an unknown sender. A cap much like Captain has.. but girlier.. made to fit her sits in a parcel, with underneath it a Waterstone to evolve Dewdrop into Poliwrath. Did her father send this?! Is he somewhere in the audience?! As Ashley walks into the arena for one final match we skip forward in time leaving the ending ambiguous. Three friends are walking on a road that splits into four other roads.

Everyone holds and it seems like everyone is walking a different route. We don’t see dialogue… All we see is a close up of Togepi crying as Misty is strolling down a route by herself.  We then hear footsteps catch up. Ashley joins her best friend telling that even though the journey may be over there are plenty of elements in the pokémon world left to uncover, she has heard that in some far away regions people do shows with their pokémon. She also has heard about a region called Johto so maybe she could try the gym leader challenge  there.. maybe she’ll win …. before it is revealed if she will say “This Time” or  “Again” All her Pokémon burst from their Pokeball to tackle hug her! Showing us she won’t just give them up.. A hand reaches out to pick her up and it’s Brock. “Whatever our next adventure will be… we will do it together”  An ending card would reveal some next generation pokémon!

What if Ash started with Eevee, Part 1

Another Wednesday, Another What If, now that this blog is one week old, things are really beginning to flow. Last week, we began the story of What if Red had joined team Rocket at Nugget-Bridge. This week we will take a crack at an arguably more popular story. The story of Ash Ketchum, now that he has his own Eevee in the sun and moon anime, it begs the question. What if Ash started with that other mascotte from the very start. What if Ash started with Eevee?!

Chapter 1: A rough morning
Our story starts , much like the beloved original, Ash excited about his starting his Pokémon journey  stays up way past his bedtime and in his sleep, he accidentally breaks Voltorb alarm clock. When he finally gets to Professor Oak’s lab, he bumps into Gary and here we will find the story is beginning to branch off. Gary you see is followed by a Pikachu.

Ash sees Gary and one of his partners

Oof, with a loud thumb, Ash just slammed into the boy walking with such swagger, the force toppling the already unstable Ash over. The arrogant looking boy takes a look at him, his hairs perfectly groomed kempt upwards in a flowing waving motion, donned in simple yet expensive blue long sleeve, a pendant representing balance around his neck. He would look onto Ash and say, well well you must be Ash, a little late to the party are you? Well at least you got to meet me’ Ash looks at the boy and can only usher out ‘Gary?’ before he is once more interrupted by his soon would be rival. “Not only did I get the bester starter from professor Oak, I also got this special Pokémon, since you did not show up gramps felt it was best to give him to a capable trainer. ‘ He spins the Pokéball with hs starter around and looks at Pikachu, who turns his back on him. ‘Sure he might be a little sassy but he will fall in line soon enough, after all who can resist the charm of Gary Oak?’ Gary’s cheerleaders do their thing, while he gets into his car and takes his leave, Ash being the sole person remaining when the professor shows up. ‘Oh goodness, I did not believe you would show up anymore, a lot of would be trainers get cold feet to leave the house, so… well I am afraid I do not have anymore Pokémon for you Ash, return next year and be in time and you can start then’
Unlike the prof from the original timeline Oak, now having made a mistake,  takes a more sympathetic stance with Ash. Our hero , who has had the worst morning of his life, shows his age as he begins crying. ‘I really wanted a Pokémon, how could I have been this stupid, m-my clock.. I broke it…’ Oak looks at Ash and says ‘There there, crying in your Pajamas  is not a very good look for a young trainer, perhaps I can give you something after all, my grandson might benefit from someone a bit more humble like you. However Ash, i’ll warn you this Pokémon was never intended for a young trainer like you, you may found your journey very difficult, perhaps it would be wiser to come back next year. Ash wipes his tears as his eyes flare up. “No professor this is the year I will become a Pokémon master, no matter how difficult the challenge will be.

Ash dreams of the night before might never come true!

Chapter 2: Who’s  that Pokémon?
Samuel, yes that is Oak’s first name,  would take Ash to his lab.’ I have been doing some research on this Pokémon, it can evolve into three separate Pokémon,I was studying how that is possible, and if maybe other Pokémon can evolve in multiple ways as well, however it is quite timid, it doesn’t seem very eager to battle and seems to be scared to death of evolutionary stones, because it is so scared it also doesn’t seem to like playing with other Pokémon either. Yet perhaps you can draw something out of it that I could not’ Oak looks at Ash in a pensive matter, his grey hairs somewhat thinning, as his age and work stress is beginning to show in his appearance.  ‘Oh and I should also mention this Pokémon is to scared to be in its pokeball’ Oak walks into a room where an Eevee is sitting in a cage eating some pellets, flinching when the two come in. ‘It’s alright Eevee , this will be your new trainer Ash’. The young boy excitedly moves to the cage and holds out its hand to let Eevee sniff it. The creature having basically understood what the professor just said to it sniff’s Ash hand, and reacts surprisingly enthusiastic. ‘Oh look at that professor it seems to like me!’ Ash clamoured with joy. Oak nods with a smile, a look he would become somewhat familiar for. Ash releases Eevee out of its cage and asks the little monster if it is ready for an adventure. The creature flinches a bit, adventures sure sound scary, yet it does like this boy. For some reason it makes Eevee feel safe, kind off.
And so Eevee and Ash set out to adventure together, at the gate of Oaks lab, Delia Ketchum stood to wave her son goodbye, giving him some actual clothes rather then Pajamas, as well as some camping supplies, and LOTS of clean underwear. ‘Whose this little darling’ Delia would ask her son, as Eevee hid behind it’s new masters legs. ‘Mom this is Eevee and with it by my side I swear on this day that I will become a Pokémon master.’ Ash put on the cap from his bag as he said so, taking a pose, that kinda looks silly from a boy in his sleepwear. Delia knew her son had always been a dreamer so she just chuckled and waved at her son, teary eyed as he and Eevee began to follow route 1 towards Viridian city, she would miss her boy so much!

Eevee was not a big fan of crowds

Chapter 3: Killing two birds, with one stone.
About an hour or so into their journey Ash began to truly notice how skittish Eevee was with each sound it would hop in of his legs, sheltering itself against the scary wind or ominous moving twigs. ‘Come on Eevee, you don’t have to be that scared of everything, don’t you pokemon like adventures normally?’ Our hero would say this with some despair and annoyance in his voice. Eevee shaked it’s head fastly in response it was not ready for adventure yet, when suddenly a rustling sound could be heard , as a pidgey popped up from the grass.”Ah Pidgey, Eevee let’s capture it’  Ash took a stance waiting for Eevee to jump by his side, however Eevee chose to tactically retreat and stare at the scene from a bush. ‘Oh come on Eevee’ Ash shouted. The sad looking eyes in that shrubbery however made Ash forgive his Pokémon fast as he told it to just look and see how he would do it. Ash however had not one bit of expertise when it came to Pokémon so he found out fairly soon he would have to deal damage to a Pokemon to capture it. After trying to use his pyjama to trap the pidgey, and getting blown away of wind, eevee screamed in terror fleeing up the tree. ‘Are you sure you can not help me weaken it? ‘ The young trainer would look up at the fox that was now stuck in a tree, just to see it heavily shake it’s head again. Ash picked up some rocks, missing the first stone he scared away three pidgeys, but in the distance he spotted one that was sitting perfectly silently, he would hit it capture it and thus he could teach Eevee how pokemon should normally behave as well, things might work out after all. He just had to land this hit, he trained for this when he tried tossing pokeballs, carefully aiming and YES!
Ash rock hit the bird straight in it’s head, however it turned out this was not a pidgey. It was a young spearow. With some tears in it eyes from the sharp pain it glared at Ash and began it’s attack.

Ash made Spearow miss a delicious worm, he had been looking forward to it a lot!

Chapter 4: A fated meeting
Spearow took flight on a collision course with Ash, who managed to stumble away. As the angry bird pulled up, his gaze met that of a terrified Eevee, deciding it would be its next pray Spearow aligned his flightpath to peck the living hell out of that terribly spoiled, owned pokémon. It hated trainer pokemon and it would pay for what it’s master did to him. While Ash shouted at the spearow to leave his eevee alone, Eevee in blind panic fired a sand attack at its attacker hitting it dead in the eye. The spearow shrieked in pain, getting sand tossed into your eye hurts a lot, blinded by the process it slammed into the tree. Spearow now dazed and confused and angrier than ever felt helpless in this moment, signaling he was in trouble and afraid of being captured he send out an S.O.S call , a call that was answered by plenty of allies.  Ash and Eevee saw the sky darkening as at two dozen, if not more spearow came charging towards them.”Eevee Ruuuuuun” Ash commanded, however the pokemon would have run anyway, the pair began to dash of towards a small waterfall in the distance. ‘Don’t worry I will keep you safe pal’ The ten year old looked at his partner trying to inspire some confidence, to no avail. Eevee spurred on by pure terror began moving faster than Ash could run, not hearing Ash cry for it not to run ahead, it’s mind to clouded by fear. The pack of spearow taking advantage of this to catch up with the Eevee began pecking at it relentlessly, causing to to sustain heavy injuries. Ash, only now becoming a target picked up the injured little fox and with one big plunge jumped off the waterfall. Being dragged by the current, the next thing Ash clearly remembers was being pulled out of the water by a , quite stunning young lady. “Oh my are you okay”  she asked looking visually shocked. ‘Yeah I am doing alright’ the boy would reply grunting a bit in pain as he does so. ‘Not you! your Pokémon, it needs help right away, there is a Pokémon center in the city not far from here’ Misty would look very concerned, where in the classic story it was a pikachu and one of the Pokémon types she isn’t too friendly with , seeing a harmless eevee injured this time, would push her concern over an important edge. ‘Here take my bike, you’ll get there faster’ she would say. Ash would thank her before sprinting off with Eevee in the bike’s basket. Ash thought to himself… “Ash now is the time and place to show what your worth, you have to protect Eevee’, sprinting off with the bike as fast as he could.

Ash and Misty’s meeting was a bit more friendly….just a bit.

Chapter 5: Ash
Our unfortunate protagonist could not outrun the Spearows for to long, being knocked off the bike, Ash knew this would be his final stand, the skies darkened by storm clouds. ‘Eevee get in your Pokéball, I can keep you safe… just hurry up in and get inside’. The wounded fox creature saw how Ash was about to take some serious damage to protect it, something awakened in Eevee, it had never seen bravery before now..but seeing his new trainer willing to take all these hits for it, filled eevee with strength.
As the spearow began their attack on Ash, Eevee jumped on his shoulders to join the fight. The cowardly pokémon launched it first ever quick attack, having finally found someone to fight for. As the quick attack struck one of the spearows, Eevee realised it’s attack was not very effective. The pair was completely brutalised by the group of swarm of spearow, as Ash saw how they were still attacking his already knocked out Eevee, he knew that this would end badly, that was the last realisation he had before everything went black.

The Spearow would not stop attacking Ash and Eevee for a good while after they went down

He had no idea how many time had past but Ash woke up to a slander hand grabbing his wrist. “Looks like he is alive” a feminine voice says.  The hand that isn’t being held by the slender hand is suddenly licked by a narrow tongue. Ash opens his eyes just to notice Misty checking his pulse and Eevee, covered in grey dust licking his hand. Noticing he is covered in the dust himself, he tries to get up. To his surprise , he doesn’t have any trouble with it at all. Nothing hurts at all! As he tries to dust himself, the girl asks him for his name. ‘It’s Ash’ he replies. ‘I know it’s ash, but how did it get here, and what is your name boy?’. The orange haired girl sounds quite demanding yet there is still a lingering calmth in her voice.  ‘I mean my name is Ash’. The woman giggles a bit, well then Ash covered in ash, my name is Misty’.
Our hero pets his pokémon which gets dusted off a bit with each pat. ‘How did you heal your pokémon so fast, and what’s with the spa treatment in the middle of the road?’  Misty sounds curious as she examines him, doesn’t she notice he wounded he is Ash wonders. That’s when he realises he has no injuries at all, not a single bit of flesh is cut anymore, yet his clothes are in bad shape. ‘I … I don’t know’ the boy must confess he has absolutely no idea on what happened. ‘I thought we were going to die’ Ash looks down to the ground, noticing some weird rainbowlike reflection, he looks up to the sky to see where it is coming from, only to see clear blue skies. ‘Well, we will figure it out, looks like you can use someone who can teach you a bit about Pokémon, I’ll travel along a bit with you… think of it as way of me saying thanks for returning my bike back safely to me. Misty points towards her bike that although being covered in ash, still looks quite fine.’Thanks.. that might be useful, right Eevee?’ The Ketchum boy looks at his partner which shouts out his name with enthusiasm, looking eager for an adventure now. “Ash there is something in your hair” Misty would  gently touch the boys head, seeing how caring he is for his eevee made her smile, gently caressing the hair before taking the item and handing it to the boy, their gazes lingering on each other for a bit. Looking at the item in his hand, he realises this was what gave off that weird rainbow reflection from before. In his hand rest on bright multicoloured feather that seems to give off some shine.

Eevee and Ash stared at their relic for quite a while, while night began to set in.

In the distance a balloon lingers in the air, three strangers are using magnifying glasses to see the group. A female whips her hair back as she removes the binoculars from her eyes. Did you see that? That boy and his Pokémon died out there… than that stuff fell out of the sky. I bet the boss would like that feather very much’. A posh male voice would add ‘and I bet he would not mind an Eevee that came back from the dead either. The third voice doesn’t belong to  a human but to a pokemon a golden coin shimmering on its forehead as it simply agrees with the others “That’s Right!”

The End

Yay my little monsters, part one has concluded, I quite like how this turned out. Expect some major changes coming in the near future. Until then, let me know if you are Team Pikachu or Team Eevee, leave a like to brighten up my day but most of all stay pink!

Review: Pokémon Infinite Fusion

Hello again, little monsters. It’s Saturday for me again, which means I am free to write about ANYTHING I want. Something Something Saturday features a review today. A review of a very unique Pokémon game, that you can download for free. Today I review Pokémon Infinite Fusion (v 4.4)

The Concept:
The game takes you to Kanto again which by now I even know better than the layout of my 20m² apartment. It mostly follows the original story of Red’s journey to become a Pokémon champion, however since this is an RPG-Maker game and NOT a Romhack there are quite a few twists and turns in both the story and the very way the game plays, because in this game you combine Pokémon into a “new” Pokémon. These Pokémon consist out of a head part, which takes 2/3 ‘s of its original HP, Special Attack and Special defence along with ⅓ of the stat whatever you use for a body, and the body provides ⅔ of the physical stats and ⅓ is given to it by the head. With this you can create some awesome combinations of typings, movesets  and abilities. All you need is some DNA Splicers and some room on your team. A great concept for both casual players, who want to create some fun fusions or for hardcore battlers who want to create their perfect lifeforms. The sprite style is based on the Pokémon Fusion Generator website, so it consists of somewhat sloppily pasted headsprites and pallet swaps, but these combinations can be utterly hilarious. Would you rather prefer some decent sprites for your beloved creatures like me? No worries! The game has an amazingly healthy community on both Reddit and Discord where plenty of helpful people will help you obtain some amazing custom sprites, which are very easy to use. In terms of the game concept , I would even go as far as to say that there is no better game out there, this is the most unique yet still Pokémon feeling fangame I have played.

Story and Flavour:
The game also features a story about Team Rocket trying to use the fusion to conquer the world. The way the game delivers it is truly phenomenal, the story felt more compelling than Firered and Leafgreen playthrough, and also blew Let’s Go Eevee’s storytelling out of the water. Giovanni feels a lot more fearsome and his goals quite a bit more tangible. This time he ACTUALLY has a half decent plan. You will meet new people and fight Team Rocket alongside allies at times, which gives the game some much needed gravitas. Do not worry however the game also is quite lighthearted , it will never be as grim as Pokémon reborn, yet also never as silly as Pokémon Clover. By doing so the game keeps the feeling very much intact. Dialogue has been changed to reflect our modern  world a lot better and is rich in fourth wall breaking humor and plenty of easter eggs. Gone are the NPC’s who don’t really say anything, these people feel much more alive. When you walk into an apartment in Celadon city , people of different floors will interact with each other, gossip about the guy upstairs being into weird shit, or have issues you can only resolve by talking to a friend of them first. It makes the whole package feel much more interwoven, something that is often lacking in the main series and that is certainly missing in plenty of fangames.
The picture portrayed of a Pokémon world where there is over 90.000 species of Pokémon to catch is done very well, contributing to a compelling and immersive experience.

Technical Stuff:
Before we address the main thing, the gameplay lets go over the technical thingies an umbrella term for everything from music to graphics to…uhm.. like controls and stuff, forgive me for the crude terms, I am a very atechnical woman.  Let’s begin with the looksies first. It features a Gen III/ Game boy advance tile and sprite set, as well the options to go into a quasi 3d like in the fourth gen games. You have the choice from 3 different menu sets and few screen sizes. Let’s talk about the negatives first so we can end on a positive. Their own design layout named Next Gen is very very ugly, not just bad looking, no like if Muk had a mother in law and she woke up with the wrong goop out of the bed ugly.  Luckily we can choose the classic Gen III layout so that problem is fixed. The game features some custom locations, like the Rocket Sewers , Virtual Reality and “the nightclub’ as well as Johto of the past that all look lovely and well and cleverly designed…. well except virtual reality..that’s colorful so I like it..but mapwise it’s a tad lazy. The biggest gripe I have with the graphics is that there are huuuuge frame and speed drops when things get visually spectacular.
Ice Beam looks very pretty but you will always see it in slow motion. Virtual reality makes me happy when I run through it…unfortunately I ran at slower than a Slugma.
Other than that there are a few graphical glitches, you can glitch through some rocks, when you walk under cycling road you glitch onto it and some doors and stairways look bigger than their actual ‘transportation zone’ On a positive note, there are no weird resizing glitches or sudden pop up, and should you ever get stuck the game features an item..as well as that it rebranded teleport to an alternate to fly, for an easy fix. I do love the music in the game, Team Rocket bases of less consequence oftenly feature the “Prepare for Trouble song’ the Arcade features Pokémon Stadiums Minigame theme, and some songs now have variants with more intensity. In case of the “Prepare for trouble’ song however I must add that , each time you get into an encounter it reloops, which can get annoying. So bring some repels on your journey if you don’t want to go insane. The custom tracks would also benefit from a bit longer runtime in general before looping but that is just a nitpick. All in all technically , I have played better games but nothing except for the massive slowdown is too much of a dealbreaker to me.

Gameplay:
Onto the biggy the actual gameplay of Infinite Fusion. Here I can happily say that this is THE single best Pokémon-fan game I EVER played. In fact it might even be in the top 3 favorite pokémon games whatsoever for me. I adore this game. It manages to balance things exactly right. Want to play it a bit casual, you can do that, want to hunt for the greater teams, you got options for that as well. The difficulty is spot on, dead drop perfect. Many fan games like Reborn or Pokémon Insurgence tend to go over the top with their difficulty.  Pokémon in my eyes has always about building your very own dream team, Reborn’s special gyms kinda force you to bring specialised teams and run a dozen mon’s at the same time, while Insurgence can be quite grindy if your intentions is just to try out some of their new Pokémon, it also almost wants you to do EV training, which I will flatout say is not fun. No matter how good you are as a battler EV training SUCKS. Fangames that force me into such antics really kill my high. Infinite fusion has non of those antics. Yes you will not be able to outlevel bosses like Giovanni if you run a 6 mon team, not unless you do some serious grinding, no you cant willy nilly trough an Igglybuff and Smoochum together because they look cute and expect it to be a powerhouse. You will have to be smart about what moves you pick, gone is the days of just four attacks of both special and physical, you will have to build your mons.. but that is what this game is about and it hands you the tools accordingly.
NPC’s tell you how fusions work…more or less, trainer school is a good place to visit, and all the moves you are given by gym leaders (non randomised)  and the moves npc’s give you help you build actually decent teams. Status Moves like inflicting burn , poison or paralysis are no longer unpractical time stallers, they actually matter in the battles. The amazing randomiser, (where you can very specifically determine stat pool differences)  makes this game a true gem. Though you have to save your game in a normal slot first, you can randomise your second games. I really recommend anyone to play randomise, because the level of surprise when encountering these fusions in the wild is just priceless… and beats finding a pidgey or rattata again by a million times over. The game offers you every tool you need to have a good time. Do you want to run multiple mon’s , the game offers you near infinite repeat battles so you can grind a new one up toute suite.  Do you want to switch up movesets easily? No problem, HM’s are forgettable and as soon as vermillion city you encounter the move tutor who learns you old moves for a mere 1000 pokedollar. Do you like the casino? It’s there.. and every single game is playable. Battle frontier like battles? Present after beating the third gym. Except for follower Pokémon(which with 90.000 possible combinations would be quite impossible)  everything you can possibly want is there.
Well , the game only features the full Kanto and Johto dex along as some Hoenn and Sinnoh guest appearances.  Around the time you reach Erica, the game starts to deviate from R/B and FR/LG quite a bit, new puzzles, new stories, new npc’s and these puzzles are often more challenging takes on old classics or sometimes even completely new ideas. For example , in the post game you go to the Slowpoke well in Azalea town and find out it’s clogged with shelders. To solve this you have to push Slowpokes with strength towards them so they evolve and are no longer clogging the draining hole. What a clever idea. Whitney’s gym puzzle being based on the counting game from Pokémon stadium featuring all kinds of cute mon’s a stroke of brilliance, and I loved the added challenge of the Silph Co dungeon.
This game walks the perfect line of challenge versus frustration and will make you into a better Pokémon trainer, even if you are a casual player, without forcing you to hatch a gazillion eggs and slay fifty gastley’s just to get some stats.
You still can decide how you play this game. With a clever team you can easily take on opponents of up to 15 to 20 levels higher and still come out victorious, do you play to have cute mons , there is plenty options for you to get them strong enough to beat the tougher bosses, and with not one but TWO active daycare centers as well as pokeballs that improve iv’s or draw out hidden abilities the competitive trainers can enjoy this too. Clever items such as miststones, which evolve any Pokémon regardless of method or level as well as side quests to get special items or moves allow for maximum customisation. With a super solid campaign and a very health after game including Johtho and Gym Leader rematches, (the best postgame since Gold.. and maybe Omega Ruby) this free game is very much for every type of player, for any amount of time. With a very alive Reddit community, expandable box system and so many options, I am even tempted to catch them all.

My rating
Though some mon’s look very cobbled together, and other technical problems are bound to incur, there is nothing like this game that even remotely compares for me in terms of fangames. I would rate this an absolute MUST PLAY, this may very well be the best Kanto based game I ever played, it feels alive, vibrant, and real. I was completely immersed during my time with Infinite Fusion. If you have some time to kill, a love for the games and a creative spark in you, this is definitely a game for you to. Become a better trainer, and have more fun than in any other Pokemon Fan game, this one game I truly love.

So how about you my little monsters? Have you played Infinite Fusion yet? What is your favorite fangame? Let me know in the comments. Keep fusing your Pokémon, keep playing games and most of all stay pink! Until we read again.

What If: Red joined Team Rocket Part 1

Hello there my little monsters!
In my What If series we take a look at a familiar story, but apply some changes to the story. Since this is my first actual blog it makes sense that we start with the first Pokémon story as well, the story of Red as in the original games. Though the story began exactly the same and Red chose his charmander, and went on to defeat Brock and clear Mount Moon, everything you knew is about to be thrown out the window.
Because after he defeated blue, and the Nugget five, Red got an interesting offer, and this time, he will not decline.

Prepare for Trouble

A man in a trenchcoat approached Red after he had just defeated the fifth trainer of Nugget bridge, without to much trouble he might add. “Hey kid congratulations you have got some skill, here is your price” said the mysterious man while handing Red a little gold Nugget, who gratefully accepted to valuable metal. Wow, that was some easy money, this money could really let Red stand up against people who pestered him like Blue. “By the way kid, would you like to join Team Rocket, we could use someone like you” the man suddenly said. Taken aback by the offer Red was about to decline when a thought popped up in his head.
The way how Blue treats him, even if he was the better trainer, the way that weak old man had blocked his path when he tried to leave Viridian city, that guy who doubted he was strong enough to move through mount Moon, forcing him to deal with Brock.
No one had shown him much of the respect he by now should have started to earn. If the other trainers are as weak as these ones, there would not be a real thrill in battle. Perhaps this could solve all his problems.
At that moment time seemed to stop as Red thoughts entered overdrive. Finally he would be able to command some respect, he and his Pokémon could train to be truly great. He did not need Professor Oak’s mission to complete that virtual encyclopedia, Blue was going faster than him anyway. The world had been rough to him long enough, it was time for the age of Red. ‘Yes… I will accept your offer’ Red said to the man his eyes shining with the same determination he had faced Brock with. ‘Ah excellent, well then if you follow me , you will meet our Boss and get your gear recruit!’.
The criminal seemed excited guiding the kid back across the bridge, guiding him back to the foot of Mount Moon, where they would wait a while in silence, Red telling his Charmander what their new objectives would be.  Suddenly a man in an orange tailored suit would step out of the cave, a persian walking besides him, his skin tone darker than most of the region, more akin to something you might find to the south of Kalos. ‘So you are the kid who stopped our operation in Mount Moon.. but now you want to join us huh? Welcome to Team Rocket then Red… thank you for pointing out the rotten apples in our organisation’. Red just stood up and reached a hand out to the man, as they shook Giovanni looked at Red with a smile.’ ‘Get ready kid, because I got an important mission for you something I can not trust to these grunts of mine’

A talking Pokémon
After Red finished fitting his new outfit he approached Giovanni again, his new found demeanor allowed him to talk to the man rather casually. ‘So.. Boss…I guess? What do you want me to do that these clowns of you can not?’  Giovanni chuckled a bit before he spoke in his deep voice.’Well that compliment certainly went to your head very fast. I want you to go across Nugget bridge again, once you cross it head East and you will find the house of a man named Bill. I want him captured, he is the designer of the box system for Pokémon, with his help we can steal all the Pokémon that people hide in their pc’s without them even knowing, it will be glorious.’
Giovanni looked down at the 10 year old to see if he understood the mission, the boy reminded him of his own son Silver, whom he had left behind some years ago, but it was not only the sentiment that made Giovanni warm up to this boy, his years as a gym leader made it a very easy tell that this boy had potential. He would have been an eyesore if he would have kept interfering with them like he did in Mount Moon, so Giovanni would do what he always did, pay well and allow the young man to feel powerful, feed his ego to make him feel entitled. Red looked at the man, his eyes seemingly excited at the prospect of commanding respect, and stealing Pokémon away from that horrible Blue, he would  teach his rival to respect it. “Done Boss” Red said trying to sound casual. ‘Bring him to Celadon city, I will bribe the guards to let you trough, head to the arcade.. we will greet you there’. Giovanni dipped his head and began to wander off, after petting his Persian, which looked at Red callously. Red went on with the task, noticing now he walked in a rocket outfit, people were scared to challenge him. It felt good, instead of being looked down upon by these weaklings, with their Rattatas and Pidgeys they now finally saw him for what he truly was.
After defeating a camper and his girlfriend, just for the heck of it , Red arrived at Bill’s house. Choosing to use a Geodude he captured in Mount Moon to bash the door in , Red was ready for his success as he stepped in the doorway.
Inside the house was very cluttered a large machine with two chambers hissing and the sound of a computer running were all Red heard after the initial ruckus he had caused. No Bill to be seen though, but when examining the room he did see a Nidorino which was looking at him.“Hi I am a Pokémon, Bill is not at home right now, he is dating a cop and they will be back any minute now” the Pokémon suddenly said. Red looked at the Nidorino amazed, who start back at the black clad boy. While Red felt the R on his shirt, a smile creeped over his face as he reached for a Pokéball and ordered Geodude to attack the Nidorino. “Wait” the Pokémon yelled, but it was already to late, his breath was knocked out of him as the Geodude slammed itself into him, the Nidorino hit the wall. Dazed he tried to get up.. but suddenly the room around him began to spin and then there was no room at all.

Make it Double
The room came back as fast as it had disappeared. When the Nidorino gained back his sight and orientation he saw Red standing above him. ‘You are my Pokémon now, tell me where Bill is, I need to find him so my boss can access the box system he made’. The Pokémon knew he could never let that secret fall into the hands of team Rocket..but this one did not really seem to have a clue on what happened, for now he would just have to play along, he would escape as soon as he saw a chance. ‘I can not tell you, Master Bill forbade me to’ the Nidorino said somewhat wooden. Red driven by his desire to succeed and be respected to angry to notice the strange intonations just shouted at the purple monster. ‘You are my Pokémon.. Obey’.  The Nidorino just shook his head, with an angry yell Red called the disobedient monster back into it’s Pokéball. ‘Fine I will look for clues myself.’
Searching the room, he only found some computer entries of three elemental dogs, one lighting one fire and one water. Just as frustration began to get the best of him, he noticed a booklet, with a ticket to a cruise ship on it, one ticket seemed to have been torn out already. ‘Hmmm the SS Anne huh…. I bet Bill is sipping some champagne and caviar boasting about his fancy system’ red said to himself before packing up. Still frustrated that his new Pokémon would not obey he walked all the way back.. to head to Vermillion city. When he passed the Cerulean city gym, he suddenly had a thought, if he would trash their leader and get the badge his new Pokémon might obey, he would not fail his first mission and that Pokémon might know more then it would tell now.
As red entered the gym, the man in the white suit looked at him ‘Yo Champ in the making what happe…..’ Red punched the man in the gut who keeled over laying on the ground . ‘I have no time for your preaching old man, I just need to defeat the gym leader. Not even paying heed to the others in the Gym, Red walked straight for the red head. ‘Yo toots you and I battle right now, I am here for your badge, if you refuse me and my friends will trash this place’. Red enjoyed the sensation of showing this bravado, seeing the other trainers cower, but this girl in front of him was different she was brazen and spunky, he would relish defeating her. Misty looked at him, she was kind of fascinated by this boy, his confidence and determination where dare she say it even quite attractive, sure he might be a criminal of team Rocket, but she does like herself a confident man.
An intense battle unfolded , Red’s clever use of his Pidgeotto and the Pikachu he caught in Viridian forest gave him the win. Despite his alignment, the boy still had a bond with his Pokémon that was very strong, they would follow him wherever he may go. Misty felt her heart throbbing in her throat, what was this raw passion, this ferocity and intensity she felt from this boy. ‘Well toots Time for you to cough up your badge’ Red said smirking when he suddenly had a realisation. ‘By the way Toots, I could use a girl like you in my team, need to visit a cruise ship..could use a fine water trainer like yourself along, I bet there are some fancy water Pokémon for you there and you don’t have to hold back either anymore’.
That final line was enough to push Misty over the edge. She DID have to hold back as a gym leader, and her dating life had not been particularly interesting either with those weird experiments going on at her favorite dating spot. This boy proved to her that you do not have to treat Pokémon badly as a Rocket, but that if she joined she could finally chose herself, over her duties. She could finally be selfish. A smile appeared on her face, and a blush as she stared into the boys eyes. He smiled back to her while he reached out a hand to help her off her little podium. As soon as she began reaching he grinned at her and ushered the words “Prepare for trouble”. Misty took Red’s hand allowing him to help her step of the podium, letting him pull her a bit closer then he had intended to, she grinned back and replied. ‘Make it double’

And so comes and end to the first part of this story,As Red and now Misty as well, travel to vermillion city to raid the SS Anne to find Bill, what kind of criminal adventures await them next. How long will Bill be able to resist obeying his new master? Will the box system fall into the hands of Team Rocket or will Blue maybe be able to stop them? Find out on the next part! Don’t be shy to leave a comment or a like! Don’t steal Pokémon in real life, that would be super mean and remember to stay pink my little monsters. Untill we read again.
