Pinkie Creates an Anime: Midnight Blues

Hear Ye Hear Ye! Princess Pinkie has returned with a new Anime Post

Salutations my loyal subjects and sweet island guests!  Randomness has taken a hold on my content as of late! And I am having a lot of fun with more creative writing!  I started a segment where I create anime based on a random theme, mixed in with a random genre! So I created the Horror-Anime concept Kuro-Queen!  Colin, whom you may know better as Periwinkle or Buffalo Retro Gaming, came up with a very random concept. A story about an insomniac man who inherited a haunted Piano… but my challenge was to make it a drama!  I went to work and I created “Midnight Blues”

Disclaimers

To give people a sense of what I am talking about, these posts use images that are heavily edited and altered and sometimes feature the work of multiple artists. It is impossible to credit them all, but I do want to state I never want to sell these things as my creations.. these are my “collages” at best. I will try to credit an original artist for custom art whenever I can. If you are interested in a piece, give me a shout on twitter, I will send you the original art and you might be able to find it’s amazing artist.

Character inspiration,  I tend to draw from other bloggers, though I will not mention them by their true name or provide links, to avoid possibly unwanted association. If I ever put someone in a negative role, it has nothing to do with the person, but just like most writers I draw inspiration from the people around me… and all of you guys apply for that standard. I will tend to stick to these types of associations as an extra entertainment value for readers in the community as well. “Spot the blogger” kind of thing! If you dislike the idea of me using a character based on you, let me know. I always mean this in good spirit!  These characters are NOT real people! They are only somewhat based on them, so any traits given are made up or enlarged.

To keep this series going I would love to see people interact!  Giving new theme+genre suggestions! However it is also a series that gives me great pleasure. This is how I like to write the most! So if people do not react in the comments, I will find a way to make it work! By creating random “wheels”to spin words off! People who make suggestions are very appreciated though! Not only will you be shouted out at the intro, you truly have my thanks! Making stories based on people’s suggestions are even more satisfying to write! Speaking of writing stories, let’s get into this one!

The Set Up

The animation style would be similar to this !

A Drama about an insomniac man who inherited a piano! Wow, did Colin give me a challenge this time around! First let’s start with finding a platform for our anime!  I think Crunchyroll this time might not be the best fit!  A lot of the Crunchyroll originals tend to be a bit more action driven.. and this one, will be significantly slower paced.  It will most likely be a single season anime, with about twelve episodes. I think Netflix would be a great place to launch this anime from. I would love to see it animated in a bit of a Ghibli-esque way.  Maybe some more crayon-like drawings in the background. Natsume Book of Shadows is another thing that has a great art style for this. Or perhaps something like Liz and the Blue Bird.

New Liberty

The setting would take place in a small village in the United States  during the mid 1950’s, named Ellington, named after the amazing Jazz Pianist and composer, Duke Ellington.   This town would be situated very closely to New York.. or a fictional variant of it like York New city from Hunter X Hunter. The name of the large city would be New Liberty!  The city will mostly serve as a background setting. A way to get materials and information otherwise not accessible to small town folks in the mid 50’s. It will also be featured in the ending of most of the episode. It will help sell the world outside of the United states, that this in fact IS america!  Everything is a bit more music themed though. Lady Liberty holds a harp instead of a book, and many neighbourhoods are named after musical greats (of course America’s greats). Instead of Brooklyn we’d have Louisville,  Manhattan would be named after Philip

Glass, and so on!

The town of Ellington

The First Episode

1930’s Version of the main character!

We start our series by seeing a happy young boy, with a dark skin tone seeing his sister take a piano lesson! He asks his mother if he can play the piano as well. His mother tells him when he is older. The sister makes a mistake and gets frustrated walking off.  The piano teacher let’s her, this has happened before.  He sees the boy while waiting for his student to cool off and invites him to join.  He then begins talking to the boy that he is writing some music and if the boy wants to hear it.  He excitedly says yes, the man begins to play the most beautiful melody he has ever heard, but it is not finished. The man is stuck at the ending. The boy then asks if he could play and the teacher chuckles and lets him. The boy almost flawlessly repeats after the teacher.. after some searching. He then even manages to compose an ending to it. The teacher, baffled by this boy’s talent asks how he did that.. and he says he remembers what sounds all the keys make.. so he knew which one to press after hearing it once.  The teacher calls him Wunderkind and then we move fast forward in time.

Main character, based on Aly from Love Shore

In an first episode opening credits scene we see newspapers fly around. Titled “Local Boy perfectly plays Beethoven” , Talented Boy performing life at New Liberty City theaters.  We also see a trophy case being filled.. and then the music darkens. Messages of the second world war begin to show up.. it is upon them.  Slowly some fire is shown around the edges of the screen.  We hear gunshots and screams as slowly we see a much more mature face in the middle of the screen.. seemingly laying on a bed!  We then see the picture of a woman, we hear one loud gunshot and our main character wakes up.  This character. The Character is called James “Jimmy” Lampreyshire.  As we see him wake up we notice he is missing an eye. His morning routine starts and we see him put in a fake eye,  it’s iris has this cold steel colour…. almost iridium He also attaches a leg brace.  After breakfast he exits his crummy apartment and goes to do some things in the city. He does his job, he picks up groceries. But even though everyone greets him warmly Jimmy seems to not care..or not notice. He doesn’t even seem to comprehend how some kids on the street are making fun of him. Jimmy is emotionally detached due to PTSD.

At the end of his routine Jimmy comes home , to his New Liberty apartment and finds there is a telegram in his mailbox . “We regret to inform you that on March 2nd 1956 Maria Lampreyshire has passed”  .. we do not see the rest of the message.  It turns out Jimmy inherited the house!  His sister had joined the war as a nurse and had fallen in love with a soldier overseas. She had moved away!  She never could deal with Jimmy’ new situation anyway. He originally moved into the city for his music career, but now that he did not wish to deal with people anymore, he was unable to perform. He tried for a while. .but he could not connect to his audience anymore.  Not with his employers either, so Jimmy barely made a living. He had some money left from his successful days but that money was drying up quickly!  Perhaps he could make a new life in Ellington!

When Jimmy entered the empty home he grew up in, he would walk around , and try to remember his youth.. he could.. but it just felt so empty!   Then his eyes moved to the piano!  This was not the piano he first practiced on!  They had to sell that to send him to music school. But then he remembered the Piano.. it came from that old theater.. a really creepy theater.. from the lower bowls of Louisville.   Where he gave his first “professional” performance. The place was shut soon after.. Some tragedy struck the place. Jimmy however was already onto better things by then…for the first time he cracks a bit of a smile as he swipes a bit of dust from the Piano. As Jimmy walks through the house we see a thinner line where the dust has cleared appear right above his.  The first episode ends with Jimmy tossing and turning in his bed again..he can’t calm himself down to sleep! He hears those sounds again.. gunshot.. screams, people yelling in german. Then he hears something else.. a strange piano melody.. and it’s not coming from his head.. it’s coming from downstairs.

The Second Episode

Original sunken place art.. by R . Daniel.. and yes I was too lazy to edit in a Leg Brace

Jimmy would rush downstairs , as best as he could, but making a lot of stumbling noise holding a weapon! He would be in full soldier mode again!  We see it in the way he moves.. but also in the way the scenery sometimes shifts to a battlefield.  Making his way into the Piano room, only to find out that no one is there!  The music had stopped as well… had he imagined it?!  He was pretty sure he never heard that song before! It was beautiful, yet also tragic. It had a sense of loneliness to it! He shook his head and decided to investigate!   The stool was still underneath the piano! So no one sat on it! .. The front door was locked! Yet on a third search of the piano he found the little line mark right above his! Someone had been playing his piano!  After searching the house once more.. he decided to investigate who broke into his house that night! It must be one of the own people. The next day Jimmy just did that.. he went into town..just to hit that old problem!  People gave him condolences for the loss of his mother, others reacted a bit offended by his wild accusations of someone breaking into his house, yet he could not read any of them. To him it felt as if he was talking to a wall. As he talked he felt as if he was sinking away inside himself.

The Old Lady

He saw an old lady who was sitting on porch who waved at him. Her hands looked crooked and slow by age..  she would not be able to play the piano that great!  The mechanic in town, who was being scolded by his wife and who yelled back at her had to  big hands, he could not be the one either. Maybe it was that sickly looking woman, dressed in all pinks, who spent all her time at the clothing store, looking quite unhappy and unsatisfied with what was on the rack. Perhaps it was that drunk woman, who tried to get people to join her in drinking.. but was shunned. Or perhaps it was that slender looking boy who kept staring at him, while he was waiting on a bus to go to the city?  Jimmy found no answers, and he did not understand these people! The unrest in his head began again… he would set a trap for whomever would come in. Not a lethal one.. just something that would allow him to identify the perk! A paint bomb-like trap. At every door.. at every window! So Jimmy bought a bunch of materials from the hardware store, from a man who complained about his job a lot to Jimmy, who ignored it and just paid his bill!  Yet even after he set all the traps.. as he lay awake at night again, like usually.. he heard that same song coming from the piano.  How did they avoid the traps?!   Jimmy decided to sneak downstairs. Not rush down like last time.. this time he would catch them by surprise. He still had his brace on! He was prepared!

Ghosty Woo

When he snuck closer, he noticed a faint green/bluish light came out of the Piano room.. and as he peered through the glass door leading to the salon.. he saw this fire like.. standing in front of the piano.. but in that greenish blue tint. When he looked closer, he saw some faint line works around the fire…revealing the shapes of a .. probably beautiful.. woman.  Normally Jimmy would feel fear… but ..he realised something.. While the song played .. he did not hear the noises in his head.   No screams, no gunfire.. just this beautiful song!  He ducked down and decided to just listen!  As he closed his eyes he visualised the song.  It had a lot of energy.. goodness! Bright tones of a happy person leading a happy life! Yet as the song progressed, many of the side tones would fade away, with only the bright element still going on! It did no longer feel as bright.. It felt lonely! Then something happened that never really happened anymore!  Our protagonist was lulled to sleep .. in which he saw himself as a much older version of himself.. all alone.. he wanted to reach out to people but they seemed so far away.. an endless hallway.. kept them apart Suddenly everything seemed very cold as the darkness came closing in.. all he felt was that he hoped that someone would sit with him before the he drew his final breath came for him.

The next day Jimmy woke up, feeling kinda warm and slightly more well rested. The dust cover off the piano that he had kept laying in the room was draped over him .. like a blanket?!  Was it that ghostly apparition?! Did she cover him up?!  When he moved to the piano he found a message to him written in the dust.. it read “help her”.  Jimmy scratched his head! Help who?!  The ghost seemed harmless enough.. and for some weird reason she managed to reach him.. no one did that in a long time.. so while he convinced himself he must be crazy.. he decided he would try to  do what the ghost had asked of him. He returned some unopened paint cans and some of the materials he could return before walking around town. What could it mean?!  The old lady on the porch waved at him again.. he nodded and ignored her for the most part.. but then took a step back. Could it be?!  He remembered his dream. It could not?!  He walked to the old lady and greeted hair, introducing himself. She offered him some iced tea and asked him to sit with her for a while. She knew he was Maria’s kid.. the one so good at the piano. The old lady would introduce herself as Clara Codwell and said Jimmy might not remember it anymore but she used to babysit him when his parents were out of town.  She then talks about the town and her happy memories and Jimmy then knows!  This is the woman in the song!  The song is about her!

For the next few days Jimmy would hear the ghost play the same song and he would visit the woman in the afternoon, and while he might not really be able to understand the sadness within her for outliving all the ones she held dear.. and being forgotten by the next generation, he felt as if he had an obligation to this woman!  He would make her less lonely for the last of her days!  Over the next few days the woman would grow more energetic and smile more, wondering who will finally be the one that will crack that steel mask that Jimmy is wearing. He ends up sharing something with her.. a dream he had as a kid.. to compose a song.. about him.. capture himself in song form.. his story to live forever through the ages. To reach an immortality of sorts. The woman would laugh but to encourage him to do so! She tells him she thinks Jimmy would be a completely unique song.. it probably be a blues styled song…but it would be unlike anything anybody’s heard.   When Jimmy tries to visit her the next day.. he discovers the old lady has passed away in her sleep!  As he goes home.. feeling empty… yet  he was happy that the woman did not go into the darkness alone.
I am the blues huh?! Jimmy sits down at the piano.. and finds “thank you” written in the dust.. as he writes the first five notes.. of his own song!  The next night we see him performing again in New Liberty, a tiny stage.. a few people in the crowd stare at him as he plays granny’s song on his face and rolls a single tear.

The Series Picks Up

From there on out Jimmy would hear a new song, for the next episode. He buys a Ouija board to talk with the ghost, and later they communicate through song. To a point where it is almost like speaking.  They form a friendship of sorts, as the woman who has died is teaching Jimmy to live again, after all his traumas.  He saw the worst in man, both friend and foe, he lost so many people that he became detached. Humanity lost its shine to him.. but by playing the songs of the amazing people around him, the ghostly woman that haunts his Piano teaches Jimmy how to feel again, how to open his heart again and show empathy!  If he can see the song inside people.. he can see their beauty again. Yet the woman seems quite secretive about her own fate.

Bleach 686 Rant -END- – Honest Linn
Art by Hirata S

In the third episode, Jimmy gets a song that consists of two very separate melodies.. that kinda harmonise with each other.. but the transition is too raw.. too rough! The Chorus and refrain do not really connect that will, but they should!  The music should work.. they just need a bridge!   So the veteran has to discover, this is a song about the car mechanic and his wife, who love each other very much but they live their own lives too much, not paying attention to each other enough! While helping the mechanic with some minor tasks, our hero discovers he really wants a kid… but his wife never wants sex anymore, so he retreats hoping she will start to miss him.. When he goes to the store the wife works at, she tells him she wants a kid…but she can’t raise the kid alone if her husband is always at work. Jimmy sets up an romantic evening for them and the two fight, but fall in love all over again. They would tell Jimmy he is a very compassionate person when they initially thought he was just a brute.  Which gives him inspiration for his own song again.

And so the series goes down, showing how tiny problems, like not noticing someone waving and smiling, or failed communication can lead to big trouble for a person. While all these problems have simple solutions it would not be something a person alone can solve. The drunk girl wanted a drinking buddy, so she didn’t have to drink alone, but people think she is just an obnoxious drunk! It turns out she is only an obnoxious drunk because she always has to finish the bottle alone and she has nothing else to do at the bar but to drink! When someone talks with her and shares the bottle, she is actually a very fun person!   She becomes friends with good old James Lapreyshire.. and she hears a lot of stories in town so she can help him interpret his songs! Though she does keep turning everything into a drinking game.

I wonder who the pink girl is based on?

The girl dressed in all pink that can’t make up her mind in fashion wishes to be acknowledged. She feels invisible and invalid! She is very scared of rejection, but she is also very unwilling to pretend to be anything she is not… She had to do that for so long in her life, pretending to be a different person than she was, that now she can’t accept that.  Somehow she convinced herself that if the entire town doesn’t like her she will be alone, so Jimmy starts a group of friends in town.. a small one but one that fully accepts the sickly girl as she is!  He shows her it is enough! Giving her a place to belong. Yet he also takes her on a shopping trip to the big city! Showing that it is okay to look at different places as well. The guy in the hardware store, he supports me in going through a career change! It might make him financially insecure for a bit, but he convinces the man that sometimes it is better to take a risk, and that without it he never will be truly happy and gets stuck in a drag.

In the second to last episode, Jimmy gets a song he doesn’t recognise. It doesn’t apply to anybody in town, he gets frustrated.. he has come so far and now he still doesn’t know who this song applies too! He goes out to the bar to hang out with the drunk, the pink girl  and the storekeeper, who have since become his friends.  There is a Piano at this bar and at one moment he begins playing the song, asking his friends if they might know the meaning.. Each and every one of them needed his help, perhaps now he needs theirs. Together they deduce that the song might be about Jimmy’s sister. Who misses her tiny brother, as he shut her out when they both were alone. Jimmy calls his sister, and apologises.  They talk for a bit and she tells him something that seems to make him very happy!  A plane ride to London scene transition later, we see him holding a baby at his sisters bedside. The mom tells the baby this is his uncle Jimmy. We move back to New Liberty, by seeing the trip was a memory in our main character’s head.. while playing the sisters song on stage.

The Final Song

The final song is much easier to figure out! It is the song of the ghost, the woman who died at that very first Piano he played at. Having done research Jimmy has discovered she was a performer like him, who got shot by her husband, who thought she cheated on him. This was only a half truth. The artist had a gimmick, where she would look at an audience member who paid them to do so.. and write a song about them. Their sorrows or happiness. One time a woman appeared and asked her to write a song!  The song our ghost saw was so beautiful that she immediately fell in love with the women. She was so awestruck she could never play the song for the woman. It made her realise how bad her husband was for her and she was ready to leave him, but before she could ever play the song to that woman.. She was shot! She was gaslit by him for so long.. and before she could free herself, she was denied the chance.

Jimmy who now has become a big hit again has to play in the big city once more.. and he invites a now old woman. A woman he found through research and by asking the people in the city opening up to them, learning their stories, showing his growth. He takes his piano to the concert (he now is famous so he can)  and together the ghost and Jimmy play the song. Jimmy tells a story about a friend he made.. who wants to play promised she would play this song for someone important one day.. she never got the chance… but now he will help her with this! The old woman in the public immediately realises what this is and begins crying. As the audience cheers.. a sense of melancholy is shown in colour usage in the episode.. as everything seems to go more dim.

Jimmy knows that his spectral friend will go away now!   She is at peace!  They say their goodbyes.. but not before the woman writes one last message followed by a few notes in the dust on the piano! Jimmy’s set on stage is finished and the message written on the piano consists of a single word. Which is reflected in the words of the audience. “Encore”. As Jimmy sees all the towns folks in the audience, he realises he can hear all of their songs, but also the song of the man sitting alone on the table sipping ..he buys the man a drink and tells him to let loose a bit of water. He makes a joke about a lovey dovey couple in the front row, they laugh. Then Jimmy gets all serious, he tells how all these songs he played tonight were to very important people to him… and a friend of his.. but his last song… that is his own song!   The series credits appear as Jimmy plays the song based on him!

That Time The Pink Panther Reincarnated As …

A little while ago Sunny dropped a package at Pinkie’s castle. Hastily wrapped up with some kelp and in the sand near Pinkie’s private beach and flight dock he spelled… Is this okay?! In seashells on the beach. Pinkie opened the package and examined it. It was a story about an already fictional character going on an adventure. The Princess was reminded of her own Dragon Ball stories, or the brainstorm of what would have happened if Ash was a girl. However this was even more adorably retro! So not only was Sunny allowed to post this story! She would really hope she would see more of these posts in the future! So please enjoy this brand new adventure of an old familiar face!

You absolutely must watch and listen to the theme first. Badum badum…badum…badum badum badum bababa baaaaaaaaa dadadada…

The Pink Panther was having a casual stroll down the street, when a glint of gold caught his eye. There – it was a lamp! Rather like the lamp from Alladin’s Tale. Very well then, thought Pink, I shall give it a rub.

Rather than a genie, the lamp produced a smarmy ad voice touting the advantages of taking a job as a lamp genie! Intrigued, Pink climbed on into the lamp and soon re-emerged dressed as a genie. He approached a number of people offering them wishes, but no one seemed to believe him. The last grouch kicked the lamp – with Pink still in it – out into the street. Still in the lamp Pink ducked and dodged as best he could but a big delivery van came roaring seemingly from nowhere and SPLAT the lamp was totally flattened. Pink had a moment of utter shock as his world became flat, and then he passed out.

He wasn’t sure how much later he awoke. He was in a rather grand bedroom with rich appointments, sprawled over a bed with satin sheets but strangely enough, he was still wearing his genie outfit. Even stranger, he realized, sitting bolt upright and catching a full view of himself in a mirror across from the bed – he was… he was a woman? A human woman? He stared at himself in the mirror. The only thing that looked faintly familiar were his golden eyes, and that damn genie outfit. Only now instead of hanging fashionably loose over his slender pink silhouette, it was bulgingly full with a lush female body. Long, pink curls cascaded from her head down her back and sides. He raised an eyebrow and cocked his head. So did the reflection. Undeniably him. Her. It was all most confusing.

A man appeared at the doorway, wearing nothing but a towel and a smirk. “Well. Made yourself comfortable, have you? The costume is great but I’m afraid there’s a bit too much of it. I hope you brought your own music? I’d like for you to dance for me and strip slowly.” The man approached, dropping his towel to display an impressive expanse of belly covered in a coarse coat of hair, which continued down his legs and arms and probably his back as well.

Pink shrieked like a girl – well, what else? – and jumped up off the bed to run around it, putting the bed between himself and the man. Glancing over his shoulder he saw a sliding glass door that opened into a small balcony. The lights of a vast city spread below. Strange sights, a ferris wheel, a huge roman sort of villa, a smaller version of the Eiffel Tower picked out in lights, a pyramid! Where was he? When was he!?

“Frisky, eh? Well, I don’t mind a bit of play. Now come here you little genie!” The man rolled up off the bed and crouched, then made a dash towards Pink. Pink squealed again and teetered on ridiculously high heels to the balcony. He peered over the railing to see a glorious pool surrounded by lounge chairs and a tiki bar. There was also a raised dais where a strangely attired man leapt around from side to side, shouting on a mic now and then. Lights flashed and whirled and dozens of beautiful women of all ages danced, drank, and swam attired in tiny swim suits and formal gowns.  Every thing sparkled. Pink found himself dazzled and when he could hear the man panting behind him he took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and threw himself over the railing.

A mighty splash. Screams. And then laughter as the crowd decided it must be some sort of stunt. Especially as Pink was quite unharmed as he began to swim with all the dignity he could muster towards the side of the pool. As he pulled himself out he looked down and realized that he might as well be naked as the see through harem costume molded itself to his ridiculously luscious curves.

Girls all around him started to pull and push and undulate against him. One bold lass even grabbed his face and dared to kiss. With tongue! Staggered, Pink ducked his head as if shy and raced for the bar. Once he was safely seated on the barstool, he spun himself towards the bartender, who was wearing a dark blue suit.

“What can I get for you, darling?”

Pink hesitated. He was quite sure he had no pockets in this outfit. He gulped. She gulped. Confusing.

The bartender made a dismissive wave, “Don’t worry about money. All included. Just give me a room number and I’ll put it on the check.”

Pink thought about it. Then held up two fingers. The bartender eyed him.

“Don’t talk much do you?”

Pink shook his head. And held up 3 fingers.

The bartender chuckled, and poured out a shot glass from a bottle labeled “3 Fingers Tequila” and shoved it across the bar. With a delighted smile, Pink raised the glass to his lips and swallowed. For a moment he thought his throat might actually be on fire. He puffed some breath at the bartender to see if flames shot out. The bartender gave him a funny look, then refilled the glass.  Pink felt a delicious soothing warmth fill his belly, despite the breeze and his wet clothing. The second shot went down much smoother.

Ten shots later…

Pink staggered around the crowd, giggling and stumbling but as much of the crowd was doing the same, no one seemed to mind. The strange man on the raised dias stopped the horrific loud but rhythmic noise and spoke for a few minutes but the words hardly made sense to Pink whether because of a language gap or the excessive amount of system in his, eh, her system, well.

A bouncy blond woman grabbed Pink by the arm. “You’re just the kind of girl we’re looking for! Do you want to be famous and be able to tell all your friends to watch for you on the MTV broadcast?” she asked cheerily.

Always agreeable, Pink nodded.

“Great!” she gushed as she handed him a white t-shirt. “Put this on.”

Hoping it might be a little warmer than the frail wisp of top to the genie costume, Pink quickly peeled that off and pulled on the t-shirt. Oh! It was warmer!

The perky woman pushed and pulled and herded him and among a group of giggly girls also wearing white t-shirts, towards the raised platform. She lined them all up on top of the platform, to the cheers of the audience. One by one she went down the line asking for their names, ages, and hometown until she got to Pink, who just smiled and shrugged. She said, “Oh a shy one!” into the mic, but leaned in and asked, “You ARE over 21, right?” Pink nodded vigorously. Although really, he wasn’t sure at the moment.

The woman stepped away and then suddenly from nowhere and everywhere water began hitting the girls on the platform! Most of them squealed with delight and began to dance around, pulling their shirts down to show off their breasts and jumping up and down to accentuate how perky they were. Pink stood stock still in shock for a moment, but then began to scrabble up the curtains behind him to get away from the water! He had quite enough of being wet today, and the t-shirt was almost warm compared to the genie outfit!

Burly men in black suits came running at him. Pink scrabbled harder and jumped, landing on the top of the dias with the weird man and those tables and things. There was an almighty crash as the whole thing went over. The lights went out. The music stopped. The water continued to fall, but the screams were less of delight than of fear. Pink ran through the darkness until he found a door. He opened it to find lights and a hallway that he ran down as fast as he could stumble in the golden high heels. At the end was an elevator so Pink jumped inside and hit all the buttons, and then sat down on the floor to take those wretched heels off his suffering feet. He was still struggling with the straps when the elevator began to stop at every floor and open for a moment.

On one floor two men dressed in sparkly white suits stepped on, accompanied by a white tiger.

When they stepped off another man with black wavy hair in another spangled white suit – a jumpsuit – got on. He peered at Pink sitting on the floor rubbing his feet. “Don’t tell anyone you saw me honey” he said in a sultry tone before he got off at another floor.

Then six blue men got on the elevator. Pink stood and looked around at them. They looked back. He smiled. They smiled back. It looked very strange with their blue faces to see such white teeth. Pink shrugged. They shrugged and smiled. They looked around at each other and nodded. When the elevator opened again, a blue man took each of Pink’s elbows and escorted him off the elevator!

They took him down long dim halls and down some stairs. He could vaguely hear applause, laughter, and bursts of music now and then through the thin walls. The blue men took him into a room with mirrors and tables down one side and all sorts of clothes on racks on the other. A couple of the men handed him a dark blue skin tight outfit. The fabric was strange to Pink’s touch, but it looked nice and cozy so he slipped into it and gave the men a grateful smile and a nod before he walked to the door.

Suddenly, one of the men blocked his way, and kindly but firmly directed Pink to a chair. Well. Really. S/he was rather tired. Pink sat. The blue men bustled about until someone outside banged on the door and said “Two minutes”. That’s when two of the men took Pink by the elbows again and they all rushed up a narrow hall, up a few steps, and out onto a stage! The blue men bowed and the audience clapped and Pink stood dumbstruck by the spotlight.

The blue men began rushing about and as they did, one or two of them would herd Pink this way or that way until it was clear Pink was part of the act but he had no idea, uh, she had no idea, oh dear. There was a row of drums in a big circle and as Pink ran from one to the next each time s/he touched a drum suddenly a blue man came to life behind it and as they performed a drum roll colored liquid and light of some kind shot up into the air. It was dazzling and beautiful and more than a little scary for Pink! Finally the men danced and whirled Pink until they whirled her right off the stage. She stumbled down the stairs and sat at the bottom as the audience applauded. Her head was still spinning. Where on earth was she? Surely this wasn’t any heaven Pink had ever heard of.

Pink heard music again. But this song was strangely compelling. It drew her from the stairs, down another hallway, and through a door that led back into the lush white and gold rooms filled with people. People of all ages, dressed in all sorts of clothes and colors, but they all seemed to be attached to machine that dinged and booped and pinged and spun wheels and flashed lights and shouted out nonsense phrases like “I’ll be back” and “I’d like to buy a vowel” and now and then there was the sound of coins falling and everyone would yell at once. Still, Pink could hear the music and she followed it until she finally found a door that led outside.

She walked down a long elevated outdoor hall, like a Greek palace, over a garden and water until she somehow came out onto a dingy city street. Lights and noise assaulted her as people pushed and shoved past laughing and carrying drinks and pointing at all the lights.

And the lights! Big lights, small lights, lights that flashed and seemed to run one after another and change colors. Names in lights, pictures in lights, entire little movies on some signs. A fountain gushed in time to music and lights and people oohed and ahhed and still Pink could hear the faint strains of the haunting song that had drawn her outside.

She walked down the street, her eyes filled with wonder – as indeed were those of many alongside her. A big double decker bus whooshed past her and puffed to a stop. Pink could hear the music somehow inside. She stepped up and a man stepping out handed her a yellow card, saying “there’s a few hours left to this pass. You can use it.” as he smiled and walked away.

Pink held out the yellow card and the bus driver pointed at a strange machine. Someone reached past her and ran their little card through the slot. There was a beep and the bus driver nodded and they went and sat down. Pink slid her card through the slot and the machine beeped and the bus driver nodded and said, “Move on back, hon, other people need to get on.”

Wandering towards the back Pink heard the music again. A young-ish man with shaggy blond hair nodded in time to music. He wore a yellow shirt, and yellow shorts, and a yellow hat. He was as sunny yellow as Pink was pink! Pink sat down beside him and he smiled and nodded. She nodded back and saw then the wires going into his ears from a box in his hand. The music was coming from there. Pink looked intently at the box, and the young man smiled and took one of the wires out of his ear, offering it to Pink. She tucked a pink curl behind one ear and put the little thing in her ear.

She heard, “Welcome to the new age, to the new age, welcome to the new age, to the new age…” Her golden eyes flew open wide and she looked at the young fellow in yellow. He grinned and patted her on the knee.

“It’s going to be okay, Pink. You’ll see.”

Pink blinked, nodded, and for the first time since the truck hit the lamp, relaxed.

Periwinkle’s Phenomenal Five: Original Movie Soundtracks

Generally when I’m doing my daily tasks like pulling out large clumps of hair from the shower drains near the resort pool or cleaning the perpetually filthy toilets I’m usually deep in thought. Categorizing all of my favorite things in sequential order. Day dreaming of a day someone will finally ask me, “Hey Periwinkle! What are your top five bands?” Or “Hey ultra cool guy. You’re so interesting! What are your top five favorite video games?” Thirty two years and thousands of cleaned toilet bowls later that day has never come. Until…now.

So this is a pretty big moment. I’d like to thank Mallow and Pinkie for the nomination. It’s nice to know that someone, somewhere out there cares enough to ask me, of all people, what my TOP FIVE FAVORITE MOVIE THEMES ARE. I appreciate it. All of this attention is already going directly to my head even as I type.

*NOTE* I’m going to try and limit the amount of Jon Brion soundtracks on here because he pretty much dominates my top ten.

PUNCH DRUNK LOVE

I have to start with this soundtrack because not only is it my favorite soundtrack from my favorite composer/songwriter/film scorer of all time (The man of unlimited musical prowess, Jon Brion) but also because PDL was written and directed by my favorite Writer/Director of all time, P.T. Anderson and thus naturally, Punch Drunk Love is my favorite movie of all time . It’s been that way for a long time and now into my thirties I love it more and more with each passing year. A quirky, fucked up little tale of a lonely loser who will face all of his anxieties and demons to keep the one woman who loves him. I know this movie gets a lot of hate but I will go to the grave defending Adam Sandler’s performance in this film. Probably the best acting of his career (just edging out Reign Over Me and in all fairness I haven’t seen Uncut Gems yet.) But still – a minimalist masterpiece from a legendary director with a charming soundtrack.

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND

Another top five movie. Another Jon Brion soundtrack. While it’s the antithesis of the raw fury this Power Ranger banger my colleague prefers provides, it not only serves as a theme song to one of the greatest break up stories known to man but a soundtrack I would choose to dub my own thoughts to. A reluctant introspective with a constant sliver of optimism that the answer lay hidden in plain sight all along. Jon Brion masterfully crafts this warm, sad tune that can easily sum up the warmest of sun shower memory.

TRUE ROMANCE

Hands down the greatest Quentin Tarantino movie that QT didn’t direct himself. Even though I guess – from my knowledge that only leaves True Romance superior to Natural Born Killers which in my opinion is misunderstood. Even by me. It’s definitely not a favorite. But this star studded cast effortlessly carries a misfit love story that is a favorite of mine and the wife. I’m sure like many cult-film-lover-couples out there this is “our movie”. And while she never was a prostitute and I was never a quiet, shy and delusional comic book clerk capable of mass murder it doesn’t mean we still haven’t saved one another in our own ways. Hans Zimmer’s lighter than air theme encapsulates Clarence and Alabama Worley’s reckless abandon as two fugitive kids living and loving in the moment. You’re so cool, Hope.

LEON (“The Professional” in the US)

Jean Reno, Gary Oldman and a powerhouse debut by twelve year old Natalie Portman underscore this touching and gorgeous French action film by Luc Besson. From its exploration to adolescence to the solitude and loneliness of a professional hitman, Leon scores across the board for warm, human writing – bad ass action scenes and a gut wrenching finale. Topped off by Eric Serra’s perfectly crafted score and a lovely rendition of, “Shape of My Heart” by Sting this movie and its soundtrack can have your heart racing and aching at the same time. Bonus trivia: This movie inspired the song, “Matilda” by the band Alt-J on their 2012 release, An Awesome Wave.

THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

I know, I know it’s not the actual theme. But a haunting classic to say the least. And it’s Danny Elfman. Do I really even need to say any more? Fiona Apple (who has a achieved Goddess like status in my book) took a stab at it herself. And it’ll send shivers down your undead-Christmas loving spine.

So there ya have it, folks. Those are the soundtracks that make me tick. Now if you’ll excuse me I have some rats that want me to teach them how to play harmonica. – PW

Definitely not the reason I do this BUT if anything I write brings you joy and you felt like buying me a cup of coffee and/or grammar lessons I would wholeheartedly appreciate it.

Pinkie’s Birthday Q&A Part 2 (Anniversary Week Day 3)

Hello again Island Guests and welcome to the second part of my anniversary  Q&A. Check out the first part if you haven’t right here or read if after the questions of today! There is no particular order and I scrambled them  the order to be a mix of blogging , personal or  silly questions so you can ready them in any order you want! Most of these are Celestial Sparkles Questions now..but she just asked a really nice mix of balanced questions!  Only the other intro makes more sense if you read it first! With that being said back to your questions.

Celestial Sparkles Asked

How did you get into anime?

Pinkie Answered:

I wrote a post about that here which tells you my origin story exactly.  The short version, I tried to be a normie for quite a while in my life until people began to bully and shun me despite my efforts to be normal. Due to people quiting my project group and leaving me without their work I got drafted in another college-work-group and those guys happend to be big anime lovers who talked about nothing else and made a business plan centered about it.  I had to learn what it was and it just re-fueled the geek inside me. While I was already fully being shunned I just embraced it this time and ran with it, even got a internship in it and then I was unleashed.. for the deeper story once more you can click here.
Celestial Sparkles Also asked to name 5 things I liked about the 90’s of which I made an even longer post, you can find that post here !

Lita Kino Asked

If you ran your own blog camp what would it look like?

Pinkie Answered:

Is that like a camp to teach people blogging or a camp for bloggers to hang out with each other? I strongly believe people should find their own voice and that is only reached by making mistakes and experimentation so an educational camp would be more less completely focused on finding yourself.  Where in the morning I’ll make you write something about a topic none of you feel comfortable with.. like the alchemy allegories of Pokémon or describing yourself as a fruit monkey including an outfit made of a protein. Then in the afternoon a free writing assignment. Comparing the piece you wrote in the morning and afternoon should have a clear winner! If you read this blog most likely you are a hobby blogger, I’d focus a plan on setting aside ambition as that can easily stifle creativity and makes you unable to discover your voice. Having ambition is fine but it should not be a starting point! First find yourself as a writer, find your voice and style and only then tweak it to appeal more widely. It’s like how a voice actor has to discover what they can do. You find your sound first then can learn to adapt and modify..if you just pretend to be Mark Hamill’s Joker while you can’t actually pull it off you’ll damage your vocal cords and be uit of the business. Writing to me is like that too! Let’s have fun and support each other, so maybe some team building exercises would be part of the course as well.

My real camp would not be educational at all though. It would just be people in a hotel..because.. in the woods we’d have very bad wifi…or at least a camp with wifi. We share breakfast and write a post together like all our laptops in the same hall. Maybe even for each others blogs to like get that team spirit going and for the rest of the day I’d think up silly games that represents us as bloggers. You know like physical games.

Stuff like giant Scrabble where two teams play scrabble but the tiles are made out of big foam mats like the stuff they make pool noodles off..  big enough so two people have to carry it.  You really have to work as a team to make some words. Or maybe Thesaurus Hangman.  Where you ask for a letter and make a word.. but only can answer it with a synonym. Let’s also not forget  the WordPress Block Editor game.. where you try to rebuild a sample of for example a castle with your own old school wooden playing blocks!  But since it’s WordPress one Block is Super Oily.. the other is super glued to another so you can only place it when you placed some other. One block is not an actual block but a  piece of paper.. so you have to find the block that doesn’t below and tape the shape to it.  Which reflects our struggles of dealing with WordPress.

Amazing prices can be won with Spam post bingo . You get a bingo card with 9 objects on it. Like Sneakers, A Slot Machine, A pot of pills and of course money. A random blogger is summoned forth to open their site and check their spam folder..whatever the top post is trying to make you buy or sign up to.. is a hit on your bingo card. And these are just a few of the amazing games I will set up for you all at camp Pinkie… there also will be booze and pink cupcakes…someone please make the cupcakes.

Celestial Sparkles asked

Write A list of books you’ll like to read this year
!

Pinkie Answered:

Okay here goes are you ready?  ……

That is all!  I am not a big book reader anymore, I like blogs and sometimes I pick up a manga and heck I might even pick up a book but I am not someone who plans this. I do like browsing cute bookstores like Livraria Lello in Porto
Portugal and sometimes a book tells me it wants go go home with me and then I do take it and read it. Yet it is all impulse! So no lists! I don’t even have an order for my video game movies I just pick something at whim.

King Coconut The Holy Mailman asked

What game would you like to review but currently can’t get your hands on?

Pinkie Answered:

I bet you’d be really upset if my only answer was Boonga Boonga!  That definitely IS one of them though. I have a thing for weird games, horror games cute games and retro games.  Boonga Boonga defiantly is the first. It’s a arcade game where you spank people, like the tax collector or your mother in law.  Not that i am really into spanking I’d just really love to review that game. Under that same banner I’d love to review Pepsiman and Cho Aniki for PS-One.. but I don’t have a PS-One let alone know if those games are region locked! So there are some games I really like to review but can’t.

A little more attainable are Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX  and Link’s Awakening on Switch. I’d love to review those two but they are a bit expensive since they are in essence just remakes, I love how they look but they are quite pricey for what they are .. I’m afraid I’d score them poorly just for their price-tag. So for that reason I am waiting for them to go on sale.  In the Steam Department there is Dragon Ball Z Kakarot that is in a same vein as those earlier two. I am sure it will be a pretty amazing game but not worth the bucks! Also not sure if my Laptop Would run it.  This also goes for a couple of horror games like Plague: Tale of Innocence, Song of Horror and mostly Call of Cthulhu. There is not THAT much I want on Steam and having my money locked into Steam usually sucks and I end up buying something I don’t really care for so I am weary to buy these.

What is your favourite Music Track and Band

Pinkie Answered:

I am not very big on music let alone bands.. I like video game music and instrumental stuff but true good music for me is not the music on it’s own amazing music to me is something that amplifies another experience. Like the Ducktales  Moon theme being the song of my childhood, due to me beating that game and that stage being my Magnum Opus of gaming back then!   Another good example of a music piece I love is This Is Me, from the Greatest Showman. While on its own its own it is impressive and resonates with me being LBGT+  as well as my general outtake on live to just be me.. it resonates as strongly with me as it does because it’s one of the last good memories I have with my father before he began to pull away and condemn his former family. Yet it is also a song that makes me realise that is okay, I would not want to change just so my father would like me more.. this is who I am I tried often enough in the past to change it so if he can’t deal with that.. to bad This is Me.

This also applies to smaller memories for examples one of my favourite tracks ever is Kyrary Pamyu Pamyu’s  Harajuku Iyahoi. The first time I listend to it/saw it was when a important friend moved away ..after she left a good friend at the alter  because she fell in love with another guy. I still cared for her.. and I talked to her.. she  never expected it to happen but she realised while she could make my friend happy she would not be if she stayed. I was afraid I would lose her in my life but one day she invited us to her new house and we had a fun night with pizza, talking and watching music.. when this music began to play I knew we would still be friends for some reason. I met her through writing and she sent me to my first con for her blog, where Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s Ponponpon was the big thing..meanwhile she realised  I was sociable and she invited me over.. so that song to me became like a symbol of us becoming friends and Harajuku Iyahoi of us staying friends. And well there is also the amazing video!

Scott Asked

I know that you’re new to anime, what other types of media (besides bad movies) do you watch?

Pinkie Answered:

Well new is a big word, I have just seen significantly less than most of you. I’ve been watching anime for maybe 8 to 10 years but do to having a less supportive platform a good chuck of it I did not clock THAT many flight hours. I watch a lot of other stuff, like adult cartoons! I am madly in love with Hazbin Hotel but also stuff like Futurama.  Would you believe it I also watch some good movies! I am actually quite a big movie buff. I am a big fan of horror which mostly means bad movies but there are a few gems out there.  I also am a big fan of movies like Catch Me if You Can. I watch a lot of movies, some horrible .. like that Lion King Remake.. or Cats..or Troll 2 and Rubber, some good, I don’t like war movies though or most time piece movies.  I also love Sentai Shows and used to like those supernatural shows like Buffy IZombie , Charmed, Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Winnona Earp stuff like that.. just not recently. I have fallen a bit out of love with the 45 minute/ 60 minute episode format shows. I need that time to watch 3,5 hour tabletop games on Youtube!

I follow a handful of Pokétubers on YouTube and Twitch and I really love card openings or Dragon Ball Gatcha Videos. I totally Adore the analysis videos of Totally Not Mark on Dragon Ball and One Piece and I like to watch Kizuna Ai play video games as well ProJared who really plays ot my sense of nostalgia, despite all the accusations and all. Masoko X’s story telling really inspires me ..but besides those I don’t follow a lot of other YouTubers.. There is Chris Stuckmann I watch for movie reviews, I do like the Completionist as well. I HATE those extremely shouty YouTubers like Pewdiepie, Filthy Frank or those who speak in memes or laugh at their own jokes all the time. I want to see a person. The only one who can scream is Ai-Chan because she is adorable.

Celestial Sparkle asked

What is your best Childhood Memory
?

Pinkie Answered:

One memory I have I am particularly fond of is playing Nintendo 64 with my baby sister. We would play smash where I’d pick Kirby and she’d pick Pikachu ..facing of on the Star Fox ship not sure how the stage was called on N64 cause it’s in space and not on the planet the stage is named for.  We would play some skitch usually travel related.. Kirby would be traveling on the same ship as Pikachu and be a annoyingly talkative passenger, wanting to make Friends.. Pikachu meanwhile just came from a long hard pokébattle so he is super annoyed when a pink baby asks him .. they eventually get in a fight and face of.. We wrote a lot of versions of that story and act it out as if they were action figures. We’d play for hours the journey taking them to other stages as they fought on!  It all had a bit of a slapsticky feel but it was amazing! It was just great fun and it was the one game I could win my sister would not smack me for winning. So that’s a plus!

That Random Editor asked

What Challenges do You face as a Blogger?

Pinkie Answered:

Mostly the romanticised image of being a content creator. We all see Guy X get an amazing amount of likes, health communities with everyone having their own Subreddit these days, the whole going viral idea. It makes the world of blogging seem much larger than it actually is. It’s easy to see a big blogger and think “I can do that” because the numbers we get on WordPress pale in comparison to things that are so common to us like Instagram, Twitter and even YouTube.  Because we so oftenly see influencers gain a million followers it’s easy to classify numbers like 1000 as small. It creates a titled view of the world by exposure of sorts. Being a creator means people following you .. so people liking you right? I am cool now?!
Yet then you notice.. another creator like you having 10x the likes.. and suddenly you feel super unliked!

Keeping your blog being about you despite these expectations is one of the hardest things I had to face. Stuff like measuring likes, ..because we see it on YouTube, gathering as many followers as we can because we do it on Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can warp blogging into something that it’s not. It is just so easy to fall for this because without effort we can know exactly how big everyone’s page is. WordPress, Twitter, YouTube.. they all display the number of followers and likes.. easy for the world to see and compare .. and for someone who had to fight to be noticed most of their lives.. that can be a bit of a curse. I’ts great that I have 300+ people following me but that other blog might grow faster..or that one blog with less followers gets more likes, it is easy to feed insecurities in this system. Then there is the marketing content! The following syndrome Exposure to so many articles on HOW to write a blog.. who structurally tell you not to be to personal.. not to tell your real opinion but a bit of a watered down version.. word counts etc.. it all is there for us to get lost in. Then we can also easily end up as copies of those we aspire to be. There is only one Karandi..so people wanting to imitate that style will oftenly just come of as a “lesser version” I will not be a professional and with that comes a different set of rules, but this is a set of rules that is written nowhere, no one tells you how to be yourself how to make blogging fun for you.. that you have to discover and it’s easy to get disheartened before then..because all around you .. you see signals to be different.

Tsubaki Kuro asked

What would you call a great day?

Pinkie Answered:

If I expect a day to be a certain way ahead of time it can only be disappointing or living up to my expectations now can it?! If I can get through the day without needing my pacemaker it’s already a good day! Achieving some of the things that stumble on my path definitely help. My life is kinda like one of those clicker mobile games.. you know you tab on computer and a timer goes down as your character writes her blog and when she is done a lot of collectables spawn which you swipe over to collect. It’s quite easy to beat a level with one star.. and that means i progress which already is great! If I expect to get three stars the game suddenly becomes a lot more frustrating.

Just take a look out on the internet, expectations are what is souring our world big time. We expect the newest Pokémon to look like Breath of the Wild and when it’s not it sucks! A great day could be anything!  Sometimes all it needs is a great piece of chocolat another day I win a unicorn at the fair. So as long as I have HP left that’s all I ask of a day.

Mallow Asked

Have you thought about doing a YouTube or A podcast and who would you guest be?

Pinkie Answered:

I don’t voice very well, I twitch a lot so a wired headset is trouble, I don’t have a strong voice either so it’s really taxing to speak long so a podcast is out. Even when I DM I am fairly soft spoken, which works in real life but not really for recording. YouTube I tried to do with a friend with me being a writer and editor and they being my  voice talent but that was a mess.  Maybe in the further future I will try again.. but well it’s really hard to do my style without getting a COPPA-Law issue..cause you know I am all about pink and unicorns! While I am not a blog for kids, or would be a YouTube for kids with my style.. I think it’s really easy to get flagged!

If I can’t do it the way I want it I am not going to do it. As for a guest all of you would be welcome of course. To me your are as important as voice actors or animators or YouTubers. We are all just people trying to keep that hobby alive and maybe earn a buck or two with it if possible at all. Though I would squee if I can get Matthew Mercer on my show.. or Laura Bailey or Sam Riegel. Basically anyone of the Critical Role cast.. Not because they are gods but because I really want to thank them what they did for me. Speaking of which.. thank all of you for reading again!

Celestial Sparkles asked

Choose a Word for this year and explain why!

Pinkie Answered:

I am going to answer this for my year of blogging and not for 2020 because I feel you mean my year of blogging. I’d choose Metamorphosis as word. Not only does it resonate with the Sentai culture I rediscovered this year, it also describes my blogging journey very well. From a small blog with two visitors to one where I get like a solid 100 views per day.  I also changed from A wanna be YouTuber who settled for a blog to someone who rediscovered her passion for blogging and who now is genuinely having fun with what she does. I changed from writing for an audience I thought that was out there.. to writing for an audience I think I had to writing for me. Like from caterpillar to pupa to butterfly.  From fleeing from reality I moved onto making this blog a part of my reality. From escape to healing. It had multiple incarnations to reflect that and now after on year I am quite content with what it has become! Like as if it has grown up! Yay! This was such a good final question! Thanks Celestial!

And just like that! My questions are done!
If I forgot your Question.. I probably made a Twitter mistake ! Feel free to ask about it in the comments! Tomorrow is the actual anniversary date of my first post! Rather than do something insightful I decide to give a little gift away! Another one will be on Sunday!
What you can win on both days will be a secret for now..but Tomorrow’s gift will be a rather personal one.. while Sunday we conclude with a bigger one! I am already excited!
See you then!

Pink Tracks Suits, Pixelated Cats and LOTS of hairspray: The 90’s Tag

It was the age that Dutch people massively saved their heads bald, put on track suits and spasmed to the beat of music like they were controlled by some unskilled puppeteer. It was the golden age for quiz shows and making people do weird stuff for money.  Like there was a show where people had to do like a challenge like.. pee in your pants for a 1000 bucks you have 10 minutes to do so or find 11 people to slep in the face. It was the age where the adults did not wonder  about YouTuber X tweeted or which , vaguely half assed celebrity cheated on their spouse and now they had to be destroyed for it.. no they sat on the couch ate some crisps and wondered if Ross and Rachel would ever get back together.  I was a kid.. from the age of 4 up until 13.  I did not know about those things, I just hoped that Shredder would not harm April O’Neil or that the Biker Mice from Mars would find their way home! Today we take a look at my 90’s!

I want to to thank Winst0lf Portal for tagging me for this one! I am going to have some fun with this one! Also a note, due to it requiring many clips from YouTube this post is not WordPress-Reader friendly.. please use the actual website to enjoy this post!

There are several answers to this question. What would be my favorite 90’s show in hindsight. That would probably be Friends! I still enjoy watching that so much! While it carried on into the 2000’s most of it was 90’s as heck. Back then I think I would have either said DuckTales or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but those are cartoons so I am no sure if the count.  But  in the end.. all things considered I am going to have to say the one that shaped me most and the one that I really went all out on was Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. It is the perfect amalgamation of 90’s and what basically is anime! Kids with superpowers and giant combiner robots including multiple transformations and monsters of the week! I wrote Tommy Oliver if he wanted to be my boyfriend after Kim dumped him… I was young but I’d make a great pink ranger!  I went to a life show in our concert halls! It was the best thing i had ever seen. While in truth it was not a lot better than the Turtles coming out of their shell tour!  .. You really should watch that! Luckily you an right here! (If you are not reading this on WordPress Reader)

Power Rangers stuck with me until this day! I still like it! Ducktales I see got outdated and the new DuckTales series is soooo friggin good it ruined the old show for me.  However while I have seen  a lot of Power Rangers series and kept updated with more of them even if I could not watch, nothing beats that time capsule feeling of the original. Don’t get me wrong. Power Rangers in Space is like the absolute best series but MMPR is the closest thing to live changing. It introduced me to the concept of soap opera acting and I to this day think there has been no better Blue Ranger than Billy Cranston.  Portrayed by David Yost. While Amy Jo Johnson’s Kimberly Hart always has a warm place in my heart I have to admit that my favorite Pink Ranger is Kendrix Morgan played by Valerie Vernon but now is not the time for that! It’s about the 90’s and yo do not get more 90’s than MMPR. The way we have socially grown since then, the outfits, the visual effects, the lessons and what ever kept our minds back then.. there is just so much in this show to remind me of those good old days! I also hate like a  treasure chest full of Power Ranger toys so I must have really liked this show.

Honorable Mention to Buffy the Vampire Slayer by the way! I discovered it late.. which isn’t uncommon for us Dutch to get something fairly late but that is another thing that had me hooked and one of the first times I had a girl crush! Season one is from 1997 so I’d say it does count.. though the majority of it happend in the 2000’s But hey.. the winner still is MMPR! Another honourable mention is there for Pokémon, the anime aired here really soon and like Power Ranger it changed my live. Yet like with Buffy , the majoirty of it’s lifespan happend in the 2000’s so just a mention!

That time has come again for me to talk about THAT song! But before we do I am going to show you guys a few other songs.  You see as I lived in the Netherlands.. back then we did a lot more “our own thing” rather than dub your shows or post all of america’s top hit songs in our charts. So while doing my tag I am showing you a bit of the dutch 90’s as well!  The first song I am going to pick here is a bit more international. Of course I wanted to pick something some of you guys might have forgotten so no Barbie Girl from me! I love how much pink is in that clip though! Not even Toy Box with Best friend.. no instead we go with Bewitched with C’est La Vie!

Okay that one was not my favourite song.  I mostly listened to dutch music as it was a lot  easier for the by then still mono lingual me.  When three Soap Opera Stars formed a girl group using character name to become the Netherlands most desired girl group , I was playbacking and singing along with this song! A song about the breathlessness after sex, but back then I did not know that. I just repeated the words and took it in the most innocent way possible.

I am sure that one was not very interesting to your guys though! It’s a bland clip and the words would make no sense. The other dutch song I am putting up here is something about a dutch group called Gabber’s. A variant of Ravers who would shave their heads, put on a lot of golden chains and would go do a dance named Hakkuh! Which basically would translate to something as Chopping. This got parodied by a dutch comedian and a group named Hakkuhbar and it resulted in this weirdness that I do hold dear. It is a pretty good  representation of the “Gabber” Lifestyle.. though the music doesn’t reflect it that well, the Gabbers are still a thing today.. though a lot less of them! This is a real life style to people.. and this clip.. shows it’s quirks very well.

As for my favorite piece of 90’s music!  Well in 1990’s a certain video game dropped here in the Netherlands and Japan. It was in America Early..but hey 1989 counts!  My  love for this song has been mentioned in many tag post and will continue to be mentioned so here it is!

While I don’t know many international adds from back in the time, again the Netherlands did a lot more of their own thing back then so here is a dutch commercial. This is a great commercial for an insurance company that .. despite the “victim” being outdated, would work today, just replace this man with anyone relevant of your choosing!  I hope you enjoy this one!

Spice Girls! Girl Power and all!  But if I had to choose between the two  it would definitely be Back Street Boys! I never liked boy bands all that much but Backstreet’s Back was  one of the better songs. I really never liked Justin Timberlake, like ever!  Though in the 90’s he had some seriously Giorno Giovanna hair! But yeah Boy Bands always were aimed to make girls dream about boyfriends and make them feel a weird form of ticklish! I never got that so this appeal was lost on me! Not the biggest music fan either! I preferred the Smurfs cover famous music!… or video game music.

I guess Spice Girls here then?  Maybe the smurfs?!   I honestly do not really idolise music artists at all, Bon Jovi was alright! Robbie Williams had some nice songs.. but yeah I was not  really a fan of anyone.  I always had a thing for one trick ponies like Eiffel 65 and to lesser extend Lou Bega and of course Los Del Rio. A song captures me not an artist. I am going to with the Spice Girls! I think they would make an awesome anime.. maybe even a JoJo series with them as the main cast! Then again.. a Jojo with Los Del Rio Might even be better! They even already pose!

I was an avid Flippo collector, I am not sure if those existed overseas or if they were exclusively a dutch thing but they were super hype here. I think I saw some with other language prints.. but back then the world was a lot smaller so who knows! Little disks with Looney Tunes characters on it that you played a sort of slamming game with.  You threw your Flippo on a stack of your opponents Flippo and everything that fell of the stack face up was yours to collect everything face down including the one you slammed with ..would belong to your opponent.

No one did that though it was just a trading commodity! We send our mothers to buy us the folders in which we could collect them and they came in bag of crisps so we ate like 2 bags a day and begged old ladies for their flippos. They spawned many incarnations including Pokémon spin offs, heavier variants in special flavor of chips and flying flippo’s which you could launch and something called topshots which were flippo’s but of soccer players. I even collected those even though I hate soccer. I once got two air packs of crisps in a row with tose as they really got poorly packaged and they just send met the entire set as an apology! I was so mad they ruined the fun of collecting for me now as well!

If we count the official ones not a lot, if we count the brandless ones about five. Not five different ones though, me and my sister would get one at the same time, and she would always end up abandoning them and I would try to save hers as well.  So we got one  of those things that grow up from blob into dino things, though I had a more chicken like creature. I lost that one on a vacation and then I had my sisters dino for a while ..but that one could no longer be silenced anymore after one of the buttons broke and one day it disappeared from my room never to be found again ..weirdly enough.. I guess it went to go live on a farm.  The third and fourth one was a really weird dog like thing with a hat.. me and my sister got the same thing. That one did not die if you left it alone either, it would take a little handkerchief and tie it to a stick and just walk out of the tamagotchi, it would abandon you.  The problem was that thing was super fickle!  Like even if you took the best care of it in the world it could still decide to walk out on you for no reason at all.  So my sister quickly gave up on hers and I tried to maintain two! Eventually their batteries ran out and that was the end of them.

Sorry for the Stock Image! Try finding the image of a bootleg Tamagotchi!

The final one was a birthday gift my sister had gotten.. it was a dog that could talk and it had a lot more functions.. but the twist was.. it did not walk around on your screen.. it was the device the screen was just it’ face. So instead of playing games you had to wipe crummies off it’s face  and do a sort of Simon Says with it. That one I loved the most but  eventually that one ran out of batteries as well and I could not be stuffed to begin all over with it all again. Not that long after that Pokémon would come out anyway so I had now virtual pets that were just as cute but a lot less stressful to maintain.

This was your screen on the final one.. minus the colour and the sleep at night.

Ducktales for NES is one of the contenders of favorite video games but my favorite console definitely was the SNES! My glory days of gaming!  While I loved all Nintendo Consoles to bit up until the Wii , which almost made me renounce Nintendo for a while, the SNES is always my highlight.

While Nowadays I’d arguable say Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI/III are my favorite games in quality I am going to have to say Donkey Kong Country takes the cake for my favorite 90’s gaming experience. I was so proud when I finally beat it! The music the graphics and the overall gameplay was so amazing for it! I vastly preferred it’s platforming over Mario’s. Beating an enemy felt so much more satisfying and the level design back  then to me was unparalleled. While there are games I acknowledge are better this is one of the games I could always be asked to play and I will always enjoy myself with even if it’s just to look at it!

I can’t remember if we ever had cereal toys, I do remember that for quite a while though I was really into the rice based cereal. Like Coco Puffs or Rice Crispies but I really alternated.  One of the best cereal memories I have though is that of Kellogs Frosties. Back in the 90’s I would stay over and my grandparents , who lived in the same town,  a lot.  It would often be a break from my sister. I was always a kid that really thrived on some alone time.  While Grandma was always overly caring she would often let me wander her big garden or the big house alone! I could play hours finding some old board games she had trying to understand the rules, or wandering on the 7 meter sound wall her garden was edges off with, I would always be up fairly early because she woke up very early and she would make me a soft boiled egg and I would get this beautiful little crystal bowl with super cold milk we got in a very special supermarket in Belgium where I could eat my Frosties from.. after the soft boiled egg was finished.  We always made our egg super salty so the milky and sugary stuff afterwards were really good! I would come back home so relaxed and thoroughly overfed.

I was 13 when the 90’s ended! I wasn’t very feminine  and mostly into geek stuff. Like Power Rangers but also Dark Wing Duck and I had a big thing for classic monsters. Horror books but also pseudo-scientific books on how Vampires, Werewolves and Zombies worked. I wasn’t to busy with a crush back in the days.  So no one really. Maybe Really late in the 90’s I began picking up Buffy the Vampire slayer and I realised much much later that it might have actually been a crush I felt towards Buffy.. and later when I became more self aware for Willow.. though as the series progressed into the fifth season and beyond I’d  lose those crushes on both of them. Phoebe Buffay is another 90’s character I ended up having a bit of a thing for but again .. not in the 90’s !… They are 90’s characters though so you can decide if they count. I never got into that Backstreet boy love thing though! Nor did I ever had a Celebrity crush aside from  Deborah Ann Woll.

Ducktales the movie! We did not have the Disney Channel but I am pretty sure that one would count right? The one with the magic lamp? The scorpions!  It once aired belgian tv and we videotapes it and I watched the heck out of that!  Those wishes, that ending.. I loved it so much! The villain scared me for a bit but I watched this movie until the video began breaking. The sound began to go off key and more and more wear began to show on the tape from rewinding it so much!  I loved it more than the show and that already was very dear to me!  Not my favorite show back then because some episodes weren’t all that good but this movie made me happy every single time!

Now this one is tricky, we had none of those networks in the actual 90’s they all came to us much later, or required some expensive additional package for tv to access. The shows that did reliable air where the Disney shows that usually aired on the Belgian public access channel that me as a kid living near the border could view without any trouble. I loved Gummi Bears, Rescue Rangers and Duck Tales but I guess I have to say my favorite one was Darkwing Duck! It was so funny and zany! I really liked that almost “fake” hero  thing he had going on for him. It was cool to see a hero who is often plagued by bad luck. His analogies stuck with me for a long time as well!  Darkwing Duck is the reason why I hate Talespin..as it was the show that replaced it. Back than I was really fickle and just replacing my favorite shows was enough reason for me to hate you with a passion!

Velcro shoes!  I know that isn’t as zany but I was hardly going to shave my head and put on a track suit now was I?! I was bullied for a large part of the 90’s as well, (like from 1994 onwards) so my clothing was usually to be as stealth as possible , also something that would not be to bad to ruin when kids threw their juice boxes at me or squished worms all over…so I wore very casual stuff with shoes I could not trip over.. It was not enough to run away as I had a weird motor dysfunction that made me slow and clunky.. but at least I managed to run away a few times when I was absolutely terrified..so a good practical trend. Poor worms that died to bully me! Of course shoes back then had to have light in them so you had to turn that on before you ran away! So that is kinda weird?!

Power Rangers…with barbie/ mini clothes on! I never liked playing with barbies or something like that to much. She always felt like a shallow girl to me! Kimberly and Trini  were much more interesting people! I would play the wedding between Tommy Oliver and Kimberly heart a million times dressing them up in barbie clothes which either were way to large or we had adapted. It would not always be a happy wedding though.. Lord Zed would come over and turn their wedding cake into a monster or send Pudgey Pig to eat their wedding buffet. Or they would go to a movie date together and I would just sit them next to me and watch a movie! …Most of the time that Ducktales one.. Sometimes my stories would also be a bit more messed up.. like when Kimberly got stung to death by Grumble Bee which was actually a Bee on a bouquet given to her by Tommy. Tommy who caused her death killed himself from guilt but also in the hope he can find her in the after life. But he gets send to hell and now has to use his ranger powers to battle an army of demons..which were the small soldiers from that terrible movie! I had all those as toys as well.

None of the above we did not have them as channels here! We did get Fox Kids though! Which would be by choice!  I remember on wednesdays they had this block of action cartoons named Power Rock which had shows such as  Spiderman TAS and X-men TAS. The Tick was also part of that solid line up. During the day there was amazing stuff like Eek the Cat! It also had Power Rangers and Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog!

That really depended on my mood, we had three major cartoon sources. We had Kindernet, which had awesome shows like Earthworm Jim, Bouli de Sneeuwpop (Bouli the Snowman)  Maple Town and Star Street. While some are actually 80’s show they ran until deep into the 90’s. I could not get rid of Nils Holgersson even if I tried!

Telekids had stuff  Animaniacs but also a lot of ecological stuff like Seabert the Seal , WNF Ranger kids, and of course Captain Planet. Their sunday would be a bit “nature” themed. While on Saturday they would hold a big live show filled with skits, and games , it was super fun. For example there was this segment where kids had to ride derpy cowbot-hatted horse named Harry. Just before afternoon the hosts would do a skit show of our most famous soap opera!

Fox Kids finally would hold the cartoons that one might identify most with Saturday Morning Cartoons, shows like Kidd Video, Biker Mice from Mars, Street Sharks and Inspector Gadget. Fox Kids was usually my go-to but it all depended on my mood.

I actually never really liked McDonalds, I did not like the food and I never really got the toys I wanted. One I remember very vividly was a Flounder from The Little Mermaid that was like a squirt gun! I wanted that as a Bath toy but all I got was stupid Prince Eric! One I did kinda like was  those disney figures of Beauty and the Beast and most of their disney stuff.
I loved the dress changing Belle Toy a lot!  I was upset though there was no Lumiere toy! He was my favourite character! I liked show people and the singing and dancing.. perhaps that’s why I like Idol Girl shows this much nowadays?! I also loved those Disney Characters in a car or train thing.. but those were hard to make a nice story to play with!

Back then it was definitely horror , I was a big collector of those Goosebumps books by RL Stein my favorite one was Horrorland which got sold so short in the tv series adaptation the book was so much better. Yet my favorite book would definitely be “De Griezelbus 2 or 3”
Griezelbus was a dutch book series written by Paul van Loon, in which a writer by the name of P Onnoval would lure kids into a trap to eat them. In the first part he is werewolf  and by telling them horror stories he tries to wait for the full moon to eat them.

He travels around in a bus that holds props that each tell a story but secretly he is trying to isolated these kids. Part 2 is set in a car graveyard, kids stumble upon the bus as a radio voice begins to tell them stories to stall them until Onnoval now a vampire can rise from his grave and feast on them. In Part 3 he is even further destroyed and is now a  virtual presence.. the bus now has become a museum piece and as a special the museum hosts a fake story telling by the dead writer.. and all the kids experience horror stories in virtual reality. In each story a character dies or nearly dies.. but what the kids do not know is that one kid.. experiences the story they see first person.. they are tricked into thinking they are dead. Once weakened Onnoval can choose the body he wants to possess and dispose of the others without resistance.

This book came out in 1997 and while Book 4 had my absolute favorite short story I think the virtual reality and forcing children to experience their own death trough horror experiences was the strongest book to me!

Like I mentioned earlier Power Rock on Wednesday was my jam. Power Rangers, Mystic Knights of Tir na Nog! I loved that stuff, but I think it  was on Tuesdays but I can not remember there was this show called the Droom Show on our public access channels. In this show kids would compete in about an eightish number of settings.. each episode had another set.. like Medieval, Undersea or Candy Factory and Horror, each “dream” had its own games where kids could compete for the highest score and in the end they could participate in a price game. Which could win them gameboys, tv’s but also stuff like a day to a theme park or new pyjamas  and cool notebooks. Tests of agility , intellect and strength would come into play in one of the best children game shows I saw and I was  completely silent when watching this after school! Sure nowadays this would not fly anymore but to a kid this was amazing!

I miss a lot of things, some I can’t even say without trouble. I guess the best way to summarise it is I miss the inconvenience of the 90’s in some cases. How hard it was to get a copy of a game. You had to go out to the store to buy a game, you could only multiplayer by having friends over.. there were only so many screens people in house could watch so  you had to make compromises. Video games weren’t always good but if you made a bad buy you just had to suck it up and try again.  Nowadays we don’t have to put any effort into anything anymore.  A bad video game can be so burned to the ground because you have a new video game within seconds. People who play Fortnite are often so insanely toxic to another because it no longer is hard to see what exactly happened, people have access to how they humiliate you, in slow mode and normal as well in high quality, they can stream it online with the push of a button and there are millions of others who play that shitstain of a game with them so if you suck.. they can just bully you out of there and only have a penalty for like a second.  In the 90’s .. matchmaking was a hassle non existent if it was .. it’s a huge hassle. You could not ridicule your opponent because if they left.. you had no one to play with. Even if they picked Oddjob in Golden Eye!

To rent a video or a game you needed to go to a store, talk to people  learn about other cool games.. now you can just type the name in a search bar tab a button on your phone and your playing exactly what you want.. this has resulted into a lot of people having a super small world.  An anime is only good if it scores a certain MAL rating right now, a movie with a Rotten Tomato score below 50% isn’t worth watching.. back then we did not have that we had to experiment as a result we would be much more grateful to the good stuff. I really wish that we had the social-cultural understanding of today mixed with the gratefulness for any shape or form of content of back then.. only then I think people can be really open minded..

This had SOOOO Many questions! This took me a lot time! I was afraid the next 90’s might have come! But it was very fun to do! So time to tag some people!

First of all I would like to tag my Blogging Bestie Foovay! Who I am sure will have a different look in this than me!

Second I wouild like to Tag Geek Girl Joy. I am curious to see what her childhood is like!

Thirdly I would like to tag Lita Kino, who I know is a Pokémon and Power Ranger loser like me! So I am eager to find what else we have in common!

If you want to participate you can answer this question! What is Pinkie’s Power Ranger?
Of course all my Coconuts are automatically tagged so check out if you are a Coconut or become one by supporting my Kofi! I will see you in the next blog! Now I I can finally get out of this ridiculous outfit!

Pinkie Plays on eBay: Weird Pokémon Listings

It’s time to search for more Pokémon. Since Jason Paige told us to search for them far and wide I have decided to go to the nooks and crannies where you do not normally find pokémon. Now eBay is not a weird place to search for Pokémon as there are plenty to be found. But today we will look in categories where you do not expect them.  Like Antiques, Specialty Services and eBay Motors. We will look at odd items that will make you wonder, why do they exist.. how did they get tagged here or what does this have to do with pokemon?! The search rules, I can only use the tag pokémon in the search bar and can only select from the first 10 pages of hits.  In each I’ll find something I would buy.. something I would not buy and something I wonder if anyone buys!

Category 1: Health and Beauty

Pokémon is not something I would connect to health items… sure I bet there is some makeup .. which happens to be tied in to the item I really DO want. Yet there was a surprising number of health items as well. Items like Pikachu Bandages or heatable of coolable rice packs. So you can create your own pokémon heat or cold pack. A shout-out goes to the Pokemon Bath bombs, who thought it through that children would not like to see Pikachu dissolve in their tub but instead they made bath bombs that release little pokemon. Would buy if I had a bath.

Item that I do want: Eveelutions Eye Brush Set

I am a bit messy with makeup, my eye brushes keep getting lost, and when I do my big make up I usually lose something. I have very poor vision -5, and 4,75 so I am blind as a Zubat when I am in front of my make up mirror.  With the flesh shaped blob that I assume is my hand blocking my view applying makeup properly can be a struggle at times. I would wear contacts but they made my eyes deteriorate even further so now I have pink glasses.
Anyway with the Eeveelutions make up kid not only I would get a set of brushes I want to treat with actual care.  I would also gain a much more lengthy brush which would actually help me with my nearsighted application blobby shape troubles! I would also buy the “thunder shock*  eyes, eye shadow set. The Brushes are about 25 dollars and the eyeshadow about 9, it has some nice zippy colours I could actually use like lilacs and such.

Totally in love with this!

Item that I do NOT want: Pikachu Electric Toothbrush

Now I do like the idea of an electric Pokémon being used for an electric toothbrush but  just look at this thing it is super unpractical. Not only do you get a brush that you can’t find anywhere else, the way you attach it also seems rather unpractical.  The toothbrush looks extremely flimsy as well but is acompanied by a massive chockachu. How do you even hold this thing I wonder. It’s cheeks will light up which is cute…but how will you see it if you are brushing your teeth? They clearly did not think this thing trough.

How do you hold this?

Item that I think Nobody wants :Pokemon Ball Orthoptic Eye Patch Amblyopia Lazy Eye Occlusion Therapy Treatment

Does your kid have a lazy eye AND does he wear glasses? Did the doctor not put a patch on the eye or you want to cover it up with a mediocrely sewn Pokéball? Than this item can be yours for the amazing price of 9 british pounds. You can have your pokeball sewn up to sock for your kids glasses in both a red OR a black patch… in two sizes of choice. Yet I wonder how many lazy eyed bespectacled children would think.. let’s go and see if eBay has something that makes me look a lot  cooler! With a pokéball?! I really wonder.

The pokéball kinda looks like a freaky eye like that!

Category 2:  eBay Motors

So apparently pimping your ride out with some pokémon decalls is fairly popular.  From bonnet .. I think that is the word, stickers shaped like an evil gengar too a Ducati Motor Riding Bag with cute little pokemon on them.. and a lot of  ornamental number plates. This category had a lot more stuff in it than I thought. Unfortunately no Pikachu car.. so for my wishlisted item.. I had to be creative. I am not allowed to drive anyway so meh!

Item that I would buy: Pikachu Steering Wheel Cover

I have really sensitive palms, in the driving lessons I took I always found a steering wheel to be a rather uncomfy thing. Luckily on eBay I can get the softest looking steering wheel cover I have ever laid my eyes upon and it’s shaped like Pikachu as well. I did not know people wanted to have their steering wheels resemble a Pikachu.. but I totally can get behind the sentiment. In fact it’s that hard to get a complete Pikachu upholstery for fairly cheap.  Like for 200 bucks you can pretty much have the electric mouse, all over your interior. I think that would look kinda cute with the pink car I would hypothetically get.

It looks so soft!

Item that I would not buy: Sexy Misty Window Decal

(Bad stuff)

I originally selected this item as the trash I think nobody would buy! Because this has very little to do with pokémon. We see a misty that looks like her outfit is being possed by Senketsu from Kill la kill. Creeping up her outfit to the max. She has a lusty gaze in her eyes and the word cock written all over her tank top. Why she would write that on I am not sure?! There is only one avion  pokémon in that criteria.. Blaziken (and kind of Combusken) and that was not a pokémon she ever used nor seemed to desire. So I do not get the shoutout. She must hold some serious airbags underneath that shirt as well because there would have been plenty of room to write Rooster as well, at least there would not be any misunderstandings. Why is it not on the nobody will ever buy this list then?  Because it was the only item that was being watched during my research by no less than 34 people even! Vagrants!

Item that I think Nobody Wants : Trucker gear stick with Pokeball Gear Knob

There were a lot of Gear Knobs shaped like Pokéballs for Honda Civics during my search.. which makes sense because from what little understanding I have that  stay at home tuner car. Like the Vin Diesel wannabe’s all get a Honda Civic. It’s one of those cars that is driven by people who put weird shaped body parts underneath them and  make it look cooler.. then they go to Mcdonalds and play music really loud from their subwoofer things. I haven’t really heard of pimping out one’s truck though. I mean I saw some pretty pimped out ones.. but that’s usually not really something akin to pokémon. I just don’t see many truckers liking the franchise. I might be stereotyping here.. but  I honestly dont see anyone taking out their entire gear shifty thing to put on in that has a pokeball nob.Surely if someone wants this.. there are easier ways.

Is it even a gear or is ithat other thingy that makes the Wruh-huh sound?

Category 3: Music Instruments

So obviously the Pokéflute is a thing.. however that instrument is actual more like a toy..that based on conventions though.. can still produce a catchy tune. Most of the stuff found in this category is sheet music though.. and some kind of tuning device that features Bulbasaur… it’s nice to see that my boy gets some love. Yet it’s boy.. starters have a very low female encounter rate so we can assume! Of course there where a few interesting other items in this category as well

Item that I do want: Pikachu Electric Guitar

I do love when things come together. An Electric Pokemon.. and an Electric Guitar.. that is pretty neat. It’s like one of those videos where people cut styrofoam things in equal slices or how playdough is made into on big non breaking string. It works. Since the pokemon theme is excellent to play on an electric guitar it works even better. The design of this thing is pretty stunning as well. They even placed the Pika head and tail in positions so you could play it and still show of the pokémon without covering it with your hands and all. That’s neat. Still if I would have it I would not play it.. I would hang it on my wall. It would just liven up any room and does not deserve to be in a guitar case or something… also I can’t  actually play any instrument let alone electric guitar. For a wall ornament though $1250 dollars is a bit pricey.. given that that is almost three months worth of rent for me. If I ever win the lottery or become a famous cewebrity though….

Now I would love to see an Electric Guitar with Galarian Zigzagoon

Item that I would not buy: KORG MA-2, Pokémon Metronome

This is a case of solid idea, bad execution. It’s that styrofoam video again but this time they slice unevenly. Its that playthrough with two mixed colours smudging up destroying the clay. The “electric item” so Pikachu works thing .. for my feeling doesn’t apply. It feels like a rhythm computer is always electric anyway even if we also have analogue metronomes.. it feels like the difference between a car and a bike. Pikachu on a gameboy is meh.. Pikachu on a electric car is clever.  There is a difference..to me. For a metronome they simply picked the wrong pokémon.. obviously it should have been the one pokemon that made metronome a signature thing in the first series, clefairy..or that thing that stole the idea and made it his.. in the form of togepi. If you make a pokémon themed Metronome… use an actual metronome pokemon!

This should have been Clefairy! It would have been Pink! PIIIIINK!

Item that nobody should want: THIS pokéball Ocarina

First of all, why would you even make a pokeball Ocarina.  We already have the pokéflute made into an actual playable instrument.  That is a canon game item made into a real item that sounds and looks iconic. Never did an Ocarina feature in the series nor does this thing actually look like an ocarina. It doesn’t even look that much like a pokéball either. It’s badly painted with some jaggedy lines. Which geek is geeky enough to think.. I would like the pokémon ocarina while for less money they can have the actually Iconic Ocarina in video game lore. A hardcore pokémon fan  would rather want the flute because that’s an actual thing and the hardcore geeky ocarina player would want the Ocarina of Time as it looks much more like an actual instrument.. plus people at cons wil recognise it. To me this feels the same like putting that “mug” your son made on display..without the emotional undertones. For almost 40 dollars there are better ways to spend your pokédollars.

Just so much wrong for me.. But I am sure at least the maker had fun! Which is what counts

Now with that out of the way we shall take a break from eBay for now. Yet there are still plenty of weird pokémon practices going about that I haven’t told you about yet. To find out more about the treasure trove that is eBay and Pokemon please follow the blog so you will not miss the next episode. If you wish me to do the same with your favorite anime show..let me know in the comments. With that I will be off, I love you all, keep on smiling!

Top 5: Pokémon Battle Themes

Being short on time and ill prepared, I would not want to leave you island guests without content. So let’s have fun with something nice and easy that is close to my heart. Pokémon stuff! I saw a bad horror movie yesterday as well, but since I want to blog about love now, rather than burning a movie to the ground I rather praise the franchise I so adore. Since I do not have a lot of time to photoshop I protected me from myself and picked a blogging topic that did not need images. MUSICA! So here are my five favorite battle themes from the games and series.

Battle Theme Number 5 : Blue’s Champion Theme (Pokémon Origins Version)

Now I could easily place this one right on top of my list for nostalgia reasons and use the original version but that would be a bit lame. While the original rendition is in my eyes till the best game rendition this anime version is truly the perfect symbolism to how it matured over time.  Those beginning notes almost sound like an alarm going off, warning you that you are about to battle the toughest battle of your life. As a child this was…sorta true. Blue was a tough battle but I never found him that threatening.

Something in the way he is build up. You beat him over and over again so if you fight him at the end, he doesn’t really feel like a champion. If we compare that to for example a Cynthia or Leon who have been build up as super strong trainers, this fight does not feel THAT special to me.  Had we not just encountered Blue outside victory road earlier I might feel differently, but all I could think was.. he could not have gotten THAT much stronger could he? When you battle Red at the end of Gold and Silver (and their remakes) he feels a lot more menacing. Blue’s theme was also used as the champion theme for Trace.. who even feels weaker so I just never felt situations where this dire when hearing this theme. Still it’s one of the very best.

Battle Theme Number 4: Zinnias’ Battle Theme (Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire)

One of my favorite pokémon titles of all time was Pokémon Omega Ruby, while other fans criticize it for being to samesies.. I was not allowed to get the original pokemon ruby and sapphire by my dad. He said Pokémon was for kids and I had outgrown it.. so I could only play that one as a illegal rom, and only if he was not watching. So in a way I never was at ease when playing the game. When I finally got to play it in peace and legal I felt so much more at ease.  The mysterious character Zinnia, that is new to these remakes had fascinated me from our first encounter. She strongly reminded me of a real life girl I was having strong feelings for. I had not been open and out as being into girls for to long, (after realising it took me a few years to dare to flirt or show interest in girls in fear of pushing them away and due to this fear I just ended up not realy feeling in love)

Zinnia is a young woman who lost her child Aster due to unknown reasons.  Being part of a dragon clan she travels the lands to try and prevent the world to end. Yet she goes about it in some dubious ways at times.  She is constantly followed by a helpless whismur that she called Aster, which you trough research can find out is the name of her lost infant. I respected the character and it was one of the first mature characters your character sort of gets a bond with.  Her theme has some darkness to it in it’s baseline while the main melody due to the accordion like themes sounds odd from which we can also read her scars. Zinnia got odd due to the pain of her loss, yet still is a brave fighter trying to do good. And this theme conveys that very well to me. Plus it’s the theme of the only pokémon character I ever crushed on.. so makes me look at it from rose tinted glasses. You could say that that is a bad thing but I would love to have pink glasses.

Battle Theme 3 : Ultra Necrozma Battle (Ultra Sun and Moon)

No matter how big of a Pokémon fan you are, no matter how much of a Negative Nancy or Positive Petra you are we can all agree one thing. Pokemon games are REALLY easy. We invent challenges for ourselves called Nuzlocke where a pokémon fainting equals it’s permadeath to make the dame more challenging. We hack the games to make them more challenging and even then we still manage to beat them. So imagine the surprise among the pokémon community when we first encountered this additional villian in Ultra Sun and Moon. When Necrozma absorbs Nebby (which is already pretty shocking)  we see the birth of one of the most.. and most likely even THE most challenging bossfight(s) in the entire series.

I saw so many Nuzlocke fail under the might of this extraordinary and creepy pokémon. A legendary that basicly mega evolves AND gets the totem boost is nothing to scoff at. It’s moveset has super effective counters for SO many pokémon. If he hits you super effectively, the pokémon is basically dead as if you do not power grind , knowing that it will come it will be of a lot higher level than you should be. Very few pokémon can resist it. It’s battle theme feels menacing and celestial, it feels like you are facing something bigger than that which you have ever faced and this in fact ..at least until you face Eternamax form Eternatus. I love the theme of the latter..but that one feels to much like a big hero’s reversal so there is not as much tension as in this doozy!

Battle theme 2: Gym Leader theme (Sword and Shield)

Now I am not one to say that new is always better and some 16 bit and 8 bit music is truly great Yet in Pokémon’s case I do feel that the classic themes are somewhat overplayed. We all know it and love it and that is great. Yet in recent times we have begun the cycle of nitpicks and are beginning to critique everything on nitpicks and instead of looking at why we love a franchise we look for reasons to drop it. Pokémon Sword and Shield does indeed have pokémon locked behind time gates (not behind paid dlc.. except for the new forms and new pokémon) sure, the game is shorter , but it made endgame more accessible than ever.I do not mind the people who give Game Freak honest feedback, I do mind the people trying to boycott the game for having a shorter campaign or for being so anti DLC they do not see it’s simply a product of the age we live in. I felt really sad that my beloved community had turned into Nat-Dexxers hating on the new game and SwooShers hating on Nat Dexxers. Can’t we just focus on what we like about pokémon and stay united. You do not have to buy a game you do not like nor do you have to dislike a game because others critique it.

I felt alone and I  was wondering if it became wrong to love pokémon still. I took my first steps in the world of Galar with some reluctance. Was it still okay to love pokémon?  This all changed as soon as I stepped into that first gym battle. I loved the cute gym puzzle, I loved how Galar made pokémon feel so much more real. Like an actual sport!  I loved the world building in Galar. That odd theme gave me an “as scene on tv” kind of feel. It was strange but good. Still okay just… until you knock out your opponents second to last pokémon. When we enter the final phase of the battle  the crowds in the stadiums begin to chant .. and it was amazing. For the first time it wasn’t just my character standing in that arena! I was there!
Then I saw youtubers really loving this song as well. Wherever I watched I saw them doing that same crowd as the chant.  Now when I ever doubt if it is wrong to love pokémon I hear all those youtubers and other video streams chant this song and I know that there is nothing wrong with me… and I want to battle some more! That is some powerful stuff!

Battle theme 1: Alolan Champion Theme (Pokémon Sun and Moon)

Pokémon Sun and Moon have some of my favorite music, my favorite city theme, my favorite pokémon professor theme, my favorite elite 4 theme and my favorite champion theme. That last one is so much greater than anything else. Not only does it walk a great balance of nostalgia as being its own track. It represents something that is unheard of and never been done in any pokémon game. When you face professor Kukui as your final challenge at the end of the elite four you would really think it is his theme. However is not. If you repeat this challenge, you can face various trainers and with all of them we see the same theme play out. Even if you fight Hau .. who has a very specific theme! How is this possible?  Then you realise it… as soon as you beat the Alola league the words that show us the truth appear on the screen “Congratulations, you are the first champion in the alola league’ This song is your theme.

Starting with the first notes, the first pokémon game began with, this song isn’t about your rivals determination.. or the high stakes in this match. It’s about your journey as a trainer.  Kicking of very tiny and swelling in intensity it has show how we have grown as trainers. With both intense and whimsical parts it encapsulates every aspect of being a trainer. Throughout the song we see a lot of classical elements of mostly pokémon main themes.
This is not just a song about your journey through Alola but your entire career as a pokémon trainer. In all the other regions there were champions before us and there will be after we have gone, but in Alola we became the first! We have become the very best.. like no one ever was.

Pinkie Laughs and Sings Along with: Galavant

Way back in days of old, there was a legend told.
About a hero know as Galavant
Square jaw and perfect hair, Cojones out to there!
There was  no hero quite like Galavant!

This bardic song ushered one of the most memorable tv shows I have ever watched.  It’s one of the rare examples of british tv that I like! In fact I love this little show! Even if it got cancelled after two seasons and was subject to terrible critic reviews… maybe it’s the worst thing after all.

Blackadder the Musical

For those who have never seen this amazing show, it is a british musical comedy set in a medieval fantasy world.  It’s not very high on fantasy elements though it’s all fairly tame with just some minor magic and a mythical creature sporadically spread throughout the series.  We follow the fallen hero of Galavant who has lost his love Madeleina to the evil king Richard. Who usurped many other countries. Along with dethroned Princess Isabella and his trusty companion and squire Sid. Very early in the show we discover that Medalena isn’t exactly a damsel distress but a spoiled rotten power hungry wench who sleeps with just about everyone except for King Richard and Galavant.

A hilarious journey with plenty of twists and turns ensues. With enough betrayals to mimic game of thrones and enough dry humor to be Black Adder, the old classic Rowan Atkinson show we already got a different sort of beast. Yet that isn’t where it ends. The show is a musical epic, where each episode has one or two amazingingly humorous, well written songs that start very disney and  as the show goes on become more and more broadway spoofs. A combination that i haven’t ever really seen nor would I think it would work out. For example take this song where the two villains and the two main heroes start growing closer together despite their differences.

A Sacrilegious Crusade.

As it should be with these kind of shows, nothing is safe from being the subject as jokes. The characters all share this fourth wall like awareness which enables to tell them how much their lives differ from all the tropes we have been spoonfed. This show lives to kick down your classic tropes. As much as they possibly can. Even pirates do not roam the see, no they are landpirates.. .who still sing about the sea. Character know their series switches epsiodes, they are aware they have low Nielsen ratings because of the singing, and they know that because they live in the middle ages there is a big chance their children will die from one of the many nasty diseases.  So.. there is just a hint of deadpool sprinkled throughout the series mostly during the songs.

So with dead baby jokes, constant slut jokes, plenty of virgin jokes as well and jokes making fun of the token character and plenty of minorities this show isn’t exactly politically correct. Yet all the jokes are also innocent enough , it’s just that no one is spared. In a way that is part of it’s charm. I never felt insulted at least, even if they make plenty of gay joke and poor jokes never I felt wronged. The jokes again mostly focus on the tropes and hardly tackle reality.  So if you are easily offended perhaps this might not be the best show for you but at least to me it was all fairly innocent. Galavant is very aware of that it is set in medieval times, troughout the entire show, which means characters will not care about being politically correct and this song from the second season makes that and my entire point about this paragraph very clear.

Actual actors singing

A cute touch of the show is that all the actors who star in this show are the ones singing and again the series has some fun with that. For example Luke Youngblood who plays Sid might not be the strongest singer of the group but that results into his lines being “cut”  by weird jump cuts to other locations or characters taking over his lines and such. Meanwhile Joshua Sasse who plays the titular character is singing quite well and gets so many songs that sometimes Galavant himself doesn’t really know what to do with a song.. being unable to think of words fast enough because he has so many songs.. or him running out of breath. When Vinnie Jones  character Gareth sings.. it sounds awful. Because it’s Vinnie Jones, no one would imagine he could sing and the show makes it very clear to us that he really can’t .
Gareth and the show are very aware of that though with him barely getting any songs and when he finally gets a song alongside madelana she talks about how different she is from him. She tells how she likes fancy meals and fancy wines on the rhythm of the music. Vinnie Jones lines are “I want meat and more meat” and Beer Beer Beer Beer Beer Beer. Why waste rhymes on a non singer after all yet it all brilliantly works out.  Characters are so aware of who they are they can get annoyed for being dragged into a song that doesn’t fit their style or notice when a line seems out of character.

The most briljant character in the show Timothy Omundson who plays king Richard. Who is very much like the king Richard in Robin Hood. Mostly the disney version. He has a small heart and actually wants to be loved, despite that he is evil. As the show goes on we see him grow into the main character more and more over Galavant.. which is great! The chosen hero trope gets shattered again by this show. One of my favorite jokes throughout the series is that Richard turns out to be a virgin, a quality which apparently attracts unicorns. Each time Richard is bragging about his sexual conquests a unicorn shows up to signal he is lying. Which obviously Richard will try to rationalise with that the unicorn must be mistaken or is not a real unicorn, only to be proven time and time again that it is legit. It’s that kind of humor throughout the show. It just tries to have fun with it characters and actors. The show knows it’s to out there to have any credibility so they just make sure both the actors and the people have a fun time. This is very well illustrated in the song “secret mission” where two enemies band together to stop an even bigger evil. Rules of the world phase in and out as it works for the comedy and thats exactly how this show should be.

Wonderful Chaos

This show is a show where anything can happen, it’s one of those kids who wants to colour outside the lines just to be different. Yet never does that colouring make it look ugly. You can still see where this story is going ,you can understand the characters because it’s so much about them. They sing about what they think and due to that we get a lot more insight in them as we would trough normal dialogue. We  know what drives them and plagues them and it all just feels great. Galavant feels like a middle finger to the standardised writing that has come over most western media. I’d compare it to family guy but it has so much more pay off, their side stories bland together so well.

The narrator is a jester who lives in their world for example. Of course Madalena also sleeps with him and when Richard suspect that he thinks she likes Jester because he is funny, he wants a lesson in comedy from the man.  While Richard is to evil to understand killing people is not funny, the Jester calls it comedy gold, not just to please his king but because to us the viewers it’s a very funny scene. Very similar to when Spongebob sang the FUN song with Plankton. Some side characters realise that they are the “red shirts” (A star trek trope for faceless people who always die during missions) of the show and they plan to kill the main characters to end the show.. just so they can have a happy end. Which becomes a returning joke for them or others like them. They often sing about their bliss in their missery. Yet nothing beats the character arc of Richard in the second season! Those final words he ushered, that final song the show goes out on, it knows so incredibly well what it is and what we want to hear as an audience that I count it among my favorite show endings off all times. That line at the end .. was just perfection… of course to see perfection you will have to watch the show! Until then here is a sexy song. That one is very spoiler friendly and one of my favorite songs from the show!

Top 5: SNES Tunes

I love  me some retro video games and even though I don’t really like  music I do like my video game music. When I originally did did the Top 5 NES Tunes post I had a clear idea on which ones to pick. With this Top 5 I had a hard time though. There are so many good songs. So I kinda resolved to cheating. While I have made a top 5 of pieces of music which I will tell you about, I will also give you an alternative rom the same game or series.  Basically this is both a top 5 of SNES tunes as well as it is a Top 5 soundtracks. I made sure not to pick just the most iconic songs as well otherwise would just keep ending up with main themes. Which oftenly carries over consoles. I made this top 5 based on how much they impacted me and will consist out of a bit of everything.

SNES Tune Number 5 :Mega Man X – Central Highway

While this game is mostly hailed for the theme to Spark Mandrill’s stage, which is my honourable mention  for this pick, I would have to rule in favor of the Intro Stage. While Mega Man 2’s Wiley castle had the best boss music, I feel that Mega Man X had one of the most epic , badass introduction stages ever. It sold everything that Mega Man X was about , and how X differed from the original Mega. When X charges his blasters,  it seems to harmonise with this stage. The way explosions and the sound effects blend in this stage music. Mega Man X has a lot more story to tell, it’s the first time the blue bomber had a real story throughout. It felt darker and more mature, themes of betrayal and an added dash of cyber punk. Central Highway makes this very clear from the get go. There’s high stakes in this one.  There is no light hearted stages, this is Megaman X, it’s a hard game, but the pace is also a lot faster than your used to, so you better get good! Better so you can rival your pal Zero and defeat Sigma. It’s all there. In a way it’s fitting that one of the best opening stage themes of all times opens this list. It’s a weird thing how this song is on the bottom of my list because it’s almost too fitting, it’s such a good match that I never felt surprised it just felt right! Yet these other tracks went even above.

Honorable Mention : Spark Mandrill Stage

SNES tune Number 4: Final Fantasy III/VI : Aria di Mezzo Carattere

Final Fantasy IV is  with some distance my favorite final fantasy game. The story, the locations, the journey, it was all so amazing. To no-one’s surprise the music of the game is amazing. While Terra’s theme, which is my honorable mention might be my favorite track of the game, arguable Aria di Mezzo Carattere is even better. In Final Fantasy VI you visit and participate in the opera and never had I seen anything like that. The complexity of this song is unsurpassed. The way the music gets bigger as the song progresses, shifts tone several times it feels so well thought out. The way it reflects not only the story of Draco and Mario, the main characters of the musical, but also the journey of Celes, the character whom you play as during the musical scene. This song is deep , it came unexpected and it’s unlike other SNES tunes.  When I attended the dissonant worlds concert and heard it performed by real opera voices for the very first time I was blown away. Somehow hearing it live did not make me thing… so that’s how it would sound when sung in real life. The 16 bit version somehow sold that to me already. In the theater I could just close my eyes, smile and nod! Yes that’s right! This takes me back, as if I was listening to the original rendition.
Also the foundations of Aerith’s theme may come from those opening notes.

Honorable mention: Terra’s theme

SNES Tune Number 3 : Tutrles in Time -Sewer Surfin

This one might be a bit of a cheat song. It featured in the arcade first after all. Yet as a Turtle fan, I simply could not ignore the best song from the best turtle game. And Since I am already cheating, no honorable mention for this one! Instead a super special remix awaits you that I absolutely adore. When I was little I would never be able to go to the arcade, mostly because we didn’t have any close by but also because I would be bullied off. Since I was a wimpy kid even for girl I could really dig the games where I felt bad-ass for a while and nothing was as badass as the Ninja turtles. Not only where you a ninja badass, you were also super cool. The Sewer Surfin Stage was the coolest video game stage a six or seven year old could wish for. Not only were we doing ninja stuff we were also surfing , dodging traps and hurting our feet! We looked so cool! Taking down robots and aliens like it was nothing only to face of with the dreadful rat king at the end.  The music of this stage was breezy , energetic and just good old fun. It sets the pace for the level and it totally feels Ninja turtles. Some of the notes of the turtles main theme are even snuck in there for good measure. This piece of music understood very well it’s a turtles song. While the evil looking aliens and deadly hazards in this stage might require something with more gravitas in this game it fits because it’s just ninja turtles and it leaves you hungry for more. Now I am hungry as well I guess tonight I will dine on turtle soup… and for some reason I also really feel like tacos!

Snes Tune Number 2: Donkey Kong Country – Gang Plank Galleon

While to me there was no doubt that Donkey Kong Country would make this list , I had such a hard time to pick out the song I liked best. Aquatic Ambiance just  got bumped of the list and my honorable mention is going to have to be Stickerbrush Symphony from Donkey Kong Country 2. It’s just so serene and ..kinda like Aquatic Ambience.. but less overplayed I guess so yes I stick by my choice. My favorite track is Gang-Plank Galleon though. the final boss fight theme. It starts out with a simple sea shanty that feels kinda underwhelming. But when King K Rool the pirate king comes running at you. After I took down the king the subtitles appeared and I was cheering and trampling in my little plastic chair with joy. I found it a funny joke that they made the credits to be all Kremlins so I giggled as I trampled a bit as the music began to swell. The End appeared… with a question mark….huh! The soundtrack then got rudely  interrupted by me losing a life.

NAAAAANIII!!!’ Little me did not comprehend what had happened my childlike brain to small to get it. The second time around I was ready and i realised the real boss battle had just begun. This was amazing! I buckled down.. and game-overed. This song tricked me, it taught me to be suspicious, that music could give clues on games. It made me a better gamer and that’s why it should be on this list.

Honorable Mention: Stickerbush Symphony

SNES Tune Number 1: Chrono Trigger – Frog’s Theme

Ducktales is one of the contenders of my best video games ever, but Chrono Trigger is a serious contender. I finished this game so many times on so many different platforms. I am pretty sure I got all the endings at least once,  Most of the time I eat the cake…it’s a good looking cake.. and it doesn’t matter inthe end anyway so I ‘d be a fool not to eat it. While Chrono’s theme is obviously the most epic song that really fits the theme of time travel, I really prefer the theme of my man Frog. I love how epic this song begins and how heroic it sounds, as a symbol for your journey. Then it becomes something so tiny and cute, yet still so brave. Just like you are a bunch of kids, a silly robot and a frog on an adventure. Yet it is also the perfect music for you as a gamer. When we first played this we were but a tiny kid. Never did we take on such an epic adventure, sure we have saved princesses before , gathered 4 crystals of the elements.  Never have we saved multiple times or timelines before! Never had we played a game with so many possible endings. Not only did this song emote the journey of frog it connected us as the player to the characters. We were all in this together. Just a bunch of kids on an adventure together in way over their heads. We grew together we fought together and we even cried together. When they played Frog’s theme at that Distant Worlds concert I went misty eyed. Thinking about those wonderful friends I made on that journey and each time I hear it I want to play the game again and that makes it a perfect game tune.

Honorable Mention: Chrono’s Theme

Bobbing with Pink Headphones: Pinkie puts a Tune to it.

So I am NOT a big music person, like at all. I never listen to pop music except for when I am forced too.. like when I am in a bar to have a few drinks or in a mall and the music system plays that stuff normal people listen on a radio. I know Nickelback from the memes, Justin Bieber from being so hated on youtube and Rihanna from being in Battleship. Kayne West is a gay fish and if I had to name a foreign singer kinda person I would mention Vitas.. or by the handle he is better know: Weird Russian Singer. So when Inkisbane from In Search of Number Nine nominated me, I had a true challenge ahead of me. So if you came here for insightful thoughts about music you might be better of checking his post on the matter, by clicking on the cocktail below.

Rules- Shakira

Apparently Shakira wrote a song about rules, a long time ago. I certainly never knew! I also never noticed how much she actually sounds like an Otamatone when she sings. She really does though! See.. thats kinda putting a tune to something right? Well no!  Like with Shakira’s songs there are a few rules I must abide by. The challenge itself goes like this.

Step 1: Choose any number of western songs from any genre that you think best shows up a anime or manga genre.
If you want to pick more than 1 from each section that is fine. Of if you can’t name something from a specific category that is fine as well.
Step 2: Explain why you think your choice works, is it the lyrics? The tune and the beat? Or is the music video?
Step 3: Link back to the original post and also the one who tagged you…though technically it’s not in the rules but you’d make me a sad Pinkie if I did not get to read your posts.
Step 4: Include the Put a Tune To It, in your tages so everyone following this thingy can follow it easily.
Step 5: Nominate Around 1-5 Bloggers.

Now because I am a rebel I am going to do step 3 first, though in the original format it was just rules anyway but I felt like saying it this way.  The” Put a Tune to it” tag was created by Dewbond who writes on “Shallow Dives into Anime”. Read his original thoughts by clicking on the cocktail below.

AMV-MTV

Like Inkisbane I wanted to show of something AMV first, because the theme of AMV”S really fit the brief of putting a tune to it. The first one I will put down here isn’t even that special, except for the fact that it was the first AMV I ever saw.  I was a late in life Weeaboo. who discovered I liked this all along, without knowing the word that only in high school discovered true anime. I was shunned by my class and put in the left-over project group. Three big anime fans. We had to start a business together and they were hellbend on opening an anime shop (hypothetically of course) as soon as I looked deeper what Anime was.. to give a proper presentation I was smitten. When I texted the group I was one of them now… they send me this AMV.

Now that I am looking back on it, this one was kinda dull and bland but back then it was one of the hypest things I have ever seen. Even that angry music was still kinda okay. I had a bit of a brief edgy phase back then when I wore black and skull thingies. Right before I went completely sick and dedicated my life to pink.  Speaking of Edgy.. my current friends even if I did not know them around then had this edgy kinda phase too. They were really into My Chemical Romance. For AMV competition in 2011 my friends made a video to the song Dead, based on the highschool of the dead anime. I was blown away and so were a lot of other people. For the sake of their privacy as well as their contacts going dead I reuploaded it to my own youtube channel, but make sure to show your appreciation if you like it. I will show it to them! Unfortunately the pair since split ways so this way , both will get their love still.

Shounen: Alles is Liefde – Bløf

Now onto the main event, and rebel as I am.. I cheat. Rather than selecting a song that perfectly encapsulates the genre I chose a song that is a perfect intro to basically any any random Shounen series.  Now I want you to memorise these steps and picture them in your head with the song.. while keeping your eyes closed. Of course this works best on a second viewing. Of course I am talking about the musical flow off the song and not about the actual lyrics. When the drums kick in you can just see the main character running through the grass with their friends and as the first lick is given of the guitar we get a view of  Hidden Leaf village, social society or U.A Highschool. As the main baseline sets in we see the logo of whatever shounen we are watching. When the lyrics set in we get those still shots of characters of the main cast with a monochrome colour. Sakura Reading A book with a green filter, Ichigo playing with Yuzu with an Orange filter, Midoriya putting on his suit as all night does the same in black and white. When the chorus sets in, we see the main character Naruto running to the villian tossing some kunais as we get some cool battle shots.

Alles is liefde… “Getsuga Tenshou, Alles is liefde, Rasengan, we see the villains pose as a shadow reveals there will be an even bigger villain in the future. At just past the 2 minute mark is the perfect cut off to start the new episode. It might be 30 seconds to long, but still near darn perfect. In reality this song is about everything being about love! Pretty good message for on my channel..but like pure and innocent love… not the lewd kind! I’m a pink Panda.

Cyberpunky Copl ike Stuff: Duality – Slipnot

Sure Cyberpunky Cop Like Stuff might not be coined as an official genre but still that is what this song goes to. Imagine images of Spike Spiegel, Psycho Pass and even death note to an extend. Perhaps even ghost in the shell and Evangelion. I am not sure how to explain properly but it’s one of those anime that isn’t very colorful with a lot of greys and browns. The character is usually a heavy drinker and a tortured soul and while he is discovering a streak of murders he finds out that the government isn’t up to anything good. Now he has to fight against everything he once stood for to save an innocent woman with special powers or of mysterious origins in a criminal ridden city.

Taking refuge among those he used to lock up, on the run from justice.. seeking actual justice. Perhaps he can have a dead wife or his kid got shot , which led to his wife to fall into despair and divorce him.. that kind of stuff.  Of course it would not just be a straight up fill noir, because than we would need some jazz. No there has to be hover bikes, flying cars and guns that should around corners. Government people in white suits. There’s plenty of anime that fit that brief. And this song is very fitting for it as well.

Slice of Life :  Mamma Mia – Abba (Nightcore Version)

Probably pushing the boundaries again of what is allowed, this was still to good not to share.  While the original swedish original (hey I do know some foreign singers other than Weird Russion Guy..Yay) is mundane enough in terms of lyrics and does indeed encapsulate the simplicity of the slice of life genre it lacks that sugarcane sweetness we all so deeply desire.
You know in my opinion in any Slice of life opening your main cast of girls has to be able to do a silly bunny dance, or a duck dance.. anyway silly dance is required. It needs to be high energy overly sweet and Kawaii-Desu!.

“Luckily” we have a “genre’  that is perfect for this.
As you can probably tell by the thingies I am using, I am not a big fan of the Nightcore genre. Like it’s just pitch shifting and changing speed. It does sound Kawaii though. And since  both the hairy Swedes and the Weeb who sped it up more than likely come from the west I think this should be allowed as my entry. Just listen to this music. It starts out with a girl laying on the grass of those weird japanese canal things where they fly their kites and stare at pictures in lockets. As she holds the locket against her heart we see her heart broken, when she looks down again her friends are standing in front of her smiling at her reaching their hands. She takes their hands and in a rainbow swirl we see them to their bunny dance and see their chibi version chase new boys! One of them is a Bifauxnen, another a Shota and yet another is a monkey… the gross girl of the group seems to hug the monkey a lot in the opening. Eventually we see them all trip on each other and tumble down the hill where they laugh as we look at the guys from a frog perspective, trying to help them up as the setting sun creates a lens flare that makes room for the title.

You’re the one that I want

I’ve got tags, we’re multiplying! And I’m losing control!
Cause.. the song flow, that your supplying!
It’s electrifying

You better shape up! Because I need you man!
And my heart is set on Yuu!
You better shape up! Yes Mallow understand!
And my final pick is Foo(vay’s cauldron)

You’re the ones that I want… you’re the ones I want want.. Oooh Ooh Ooh
The ones that I want…..Ooh Ooh Ooh
That was a very random way of selecting my nominees. So if you don’t want to do this, by all means feel free to skip and if I didn’t sing about you feel free to nominate yourself with that You are the ones I want line! Just let me know in the comments! Alright with that I shall join my insanity for dinner. It’s a weird way of selecting people.. but at least I put a Tune to It.
