Pinkie Creates An Anime: Apple Inversion

It is time to create another new anime!  In each of the Pinkie Creates An Anime posts I ask you guys to come up with a random premise/topic as well as a seemingly unmatching genre for me to create an anime about! In my first entry Kuro-Queen, Fred suggested I should make a Slice of Life Anime about nudists! There is one problem though! I am about as far from a Nudist as Uniduckingly possible! I love clothed people! Way more than I like naked people…yet I buckled down and created a fun little concept of a show  I call… Apple Inversion!

Like before I will draw inspiration from iconic bloggers, and maybe some VTuber friends at one point to draw inspiration for my characters!  I don’t ask you to associate in my blog in any way, and what I write doesn’t really have to reflect on you as a genuine character. Like many writers I take inspiration from real life and you aspire me… and it gives the community a fun chance to recognise which character is based on who! If you have a problem with me using a character inspired by you, let me know in the comments or reach out on Twitter and I will stop.

To sell some general ideas I will use art form other shows mixed in with some occasional fan art here and there!  Because I use a lot of elements together it will be impossible for me to constantly credit all the original artists all the time. but if you are interested in a work feel free to reach out and I will tell you what I know!  I do not take  credit for any of the drawings.. at worst only for the composition of the “collage”

A special disclaimer for this episode is that I will not include a lot of created art. I know I have a few minors reading blog and to be on the safe side of what is right , what is allowed and what is NSFW as the kids call it these days I decided to leave it up to the imagination!… Mostly! You know looing for “naked” art in combination with anime would force me to look at tons of porn.. and I am just not into that kind of stuff so I will mostly be using mannequins to convey ideas!

Finally this series would really benefit from audience interaction! I would love to be challenged by you with new ideas and writing challenges. So I do kindly request that if you read these things all the way through and you genuinely like this series that you leave a suggestion!  That being said I will also not let a lack of interaction be the end of this series! In the end this .. and not anime reviews … is what I love doing and if I can’t get audience reaction, I will create two wheels to spin with topics and genres for me to randomly combine! So don’t worry if you have no idea! This series will keep going either way!

The Set-Up

Ask John: What are the Best Vintage Fan Service Anime? – AnimeNation Anime News Blog

Alright.. let’s get this anime off the ground… First of all I do think a nudist anime would unfortunately be kind of hard to get launched. The big platforms probably would not launch it..because it has too much nudity!  So for this one I decided to make it a web based show! Something that can be hosted on nudist websites, and blogs like Fred’s or even mine.. where I can sometimes show the folly of mob mentality!  In a way the show would have a highly philosophical aspect to it!  Almost educational even.   Because of that I would really love it if it was done in a bit of an 80’s or 90’s anime style… with the less cutesy proportions and the much more humble but real colour pallets.  So characters would look more.. Gundam Wing like… or  maybe Cowboy Bebop’esque  rather than My Hero Academia.

The setting of this one is quite special!  To be honest.. I am not a nudist and I never will be, so I have no real idea about their struggles, their current community or their humble little rules.  I read some stuff on Au Naturel of course.. but I feel as a writer I can’t do that justice. So instead I decided to go for a somewhat different concept and go for a nudist anime in a much more “concept of nudism” way.. It will be set in two worlds!   The story will follow a hiking group of geeky bloggers that follow their tour leader Red Riser, an all american male who is a nudist for a hobby. Through an accident they will land in a different world.. a world people all walk naked!  The first half of the show will focus on this new world.. which is a parallel of our earth exactly. It will be set in a medium sized town, like Morioh from Jojo’s Part 4, or  like Springfield from the Simpsons… you  know one of those places that seems small but happens to have pretty much every location your story may require.  It will not be a real town.. and the town shall go by the name of Eden.

The First Episode

The show begins showing a man and a woman walking naked through a beautiful garden. They seem in love, they frolic around a bit when they cuddle up against each other next to a tree. The woman says she is hungry and the man decides to go look for some food. While the man is gone the woman hears someone calling out for her…a snake calls out to her and tells her that if she is hungry she should just eat an apple.  She is very tempted.. but she refuses to take the apple. Much to the snakes dismay. Then the man shows up again, carrying some tomatoes he found. The woman tells him about her encounter to the snake and as they wonder what would have happened if she had taken the apple… we see them imagine them being punished with shame.. and in their imagination we seem to be fast fowared to present day eden where a slightly grizzled tour guide..in full hiking gear has a big smile on his face… as he is followed by a strange little tour group.

Among the tour-group as a woman dressed in new ages clothes, she appears to be Red’s age give or take a few years. She seems pretty close with a girl wearing a pink wig and some Hime Lolita clothing. Then we see a stereotypical nerdy boy, who does the glasses pushings thing and asks Red.. where the Gunpla store in town is. The group is completed by a tomboyish girl who wears a sports tank top and a tracksuit… with prints of magical girls on them.. and a smaller stature dark skinned bald man.. with a purplish beard. As the group crosses the street we see an immense natural area with mountains and forest in front of them!  Eden National Park! “My stomping ground”  Red proclaims! “Autumn, if you can give Rosey, Rod, Rita and Rocky their maps.. and lunch kits we can get on our way.

We then see a close up off the map and Indiana Jones style we see a line appear on the map as we see the group trek across a path. With the Hime-Lolita Cosplayer falling down a few times and the Fit girl hopping some boulders.  Eventually the group pauses in front of an apple tree, while having their lunch Rosey tries to swipe the dirt from her outfit when the apple she picked rolls away from her.. as she goes to pick it up she discovers a weird portal looking thing…at the back of this apple tree. She tells the group about it and they investigate. Rod theories it might be a wormhole like he has seen in many sci-fi anime, while Rita argues it might be a magical phenomena .. she could know because her best girl.. is a magical girl!  Red tests it by sticking one of those walking stick things through and it just goes past the barrier and gets back unharmed.

They decide it is best not to jump through strange portals…but then an accident in the mines nearby causes a mountain cave in and a rock slide.  Rosey who is not very fast.. and Autumn isn’t that fast neither know they will never make it to safety… Red as the tour leader then decides that their best bet is going through that portal.  As they go behind the portal  they seem to end up at the exact same spot.. confused they look around.. nothing has changed.. but when Red tries to stick his  walking stick through the portal again.. he hears the loud kachunk of it hitting rocks.. Wherever they are.. they are trapped here now!

Confused, the group tries to reorganise themselves. They notice they lost GPS signal… and their cellphones have no reach..but the hiking path is almost the exact same. Except for one detail… a small sign is placed near the tree that says it is forbidden to eat the fruit! Confused, the group tries to make their way back through town.. and when they get there… The townsfolk all look as strange at them as the group looks on  the townsfolk. except Red.. he looks delighted! The townsfolk are all naked. A man shows up.. a short and rotund cop.. kind of looking like Danny Devito.. he has a cop badge tattooed on his chest. He tells the group that it is forbidden to cover themselves as it is disrespectful to nature. Rosey screams in terror while Rod asks if the town at least has some Gunpla store!

The Second Episode

Respect Mike Haggar (Final Fight): respectthreads

We then would move onto a bit of a timeskip!  We see Red sitting at a table with the mayor of the town, he looks like Mayor Haggar from Final Fight… of course they are both naked!  They are talking about how Red’s group is adjusting to their new lives and if the apartments provided to them are satisfactory. Red gives us some exposition that people have been slowly adapting. Rod has gotten a job , Lita is giving some fitness training to people and Rocky has been the emotional support that tries to pull everyone trough!   We see some clips of them doing their new things… naked.  Though some reservations in going out can still be seen. Red then sights and says “ except for Rosey who has fallen into a deep depression and refuses to leave her room”

The mayor then asks Red to take him to her.. as they knock on her door. She opens the door but is rolled up in all the blankets of her bed she could find.  Looking deflated and kind of starved.  The Mayor and Red try to get trough to her.. with Red telling her.. that if it is because she was slightly more chubby then the others… there is no body shaming here!  It is okay!  Rosey gets quite angry with him and tells him that is totally not the reason. Unlike Rod and Rita she doesn’t feel shame about being naked.. she doesn’t care she HATES it.  She can not express her individuality! She hates uniforms.. and nakedness is just another uniform!  At least it is to her! She can’t choose her body. so she can’t express how she truely is.

The Mayor asks if she would like a tattoo, to make herself more unique and he will pay for it.. but Rosey just cries and tells she wants to go home!   The Mayor tells her that he sends people to check on the portal every day.. but the ruble in front of her Earth’s apple tree does not seem to be cleared up yet… he doesn’t know if it will!  She tells him that she still doesn’t want a tattoo, it doesn’t feel right for her.  She wants to adapt herself.. to reflect how she feels.. not some permanent marking. The mayor then thinks!  He gets an idea and tells her about an outing she might like.  That will help her be more unique!  She agrees to come and doesn’t really show shame for her naked body, nor does Red. Rocky tags along as her support and cheers her up.   Together they go perfume making!

Mayor Harold tells her that clothes here are seen as an insult to nature!  Hiding what nature has given us! No other animals wear clothes.. so why would we put ourselves above them .. and nature.    Yet that doesn’t mean they can not distinguish themselves…many species use scents to attract a mate.. so perfumery business has been booming.  In Lucky Star style.. Everyone imagines what scents would compliment them best. Rosey decides on Raspberry’s Marshmallows and a hint of peach, while Red would like to smell of pine clay! Like  freshly treated soil!

The group then goes on a cute little adventure to find all their ingredients showing off more parts of the nudist world. We see technology has developed somewhat differently!  For example we discover mankind has never been to space, when Red begins talking about his love for space travel…. Together they deduce that because Eve has never bitten into the apple, mankind never gave into sheer curiosity!  So science developed simply out of need or passion.  How can I seduce a man better, was investigated so perfumes are far more established and complex than in our own world,  heaters and medicine against pneumonia would be much further as well… yet stuff like space travel.. or atomic sciences have never been fully explored.

Same goes for underwater technology!  Mankind never thought about putting clothes on people.. because it feels so unnatural.. they simply never thought about inventing a diving suit! Rosey wants to make a perfume for her best friend as well and decides she would smell like Nightshade and Roses.. but when trying to get the roses.. she realises.. there are not real garden gloves to cut them! YEt people developed a “pesticide”   for a rose to drop it’s thorns.. Much more complex.. but a much more logical solution in a world that never thinks about clothes.

Eventually we see Rosey cheer up a bit and open her own little perfume place called Pink’s perfumes. Rocky is seen across town flyering for it.. and he does it with so much zeal he kind of forgets to be awkward. Rosey makes some friends in town as time slowly begins to move past her depression again as we can see the seasons change. Ending the second episode of the show, we see the season change in our world as well. The hiking five however had very little ties in the old world.. so it is only discovered very late that they are gone!   Now we see a blogger from the other world notices that five blogs stopped on the same day, all announcing they would go on a hike!   An email is sent to the police asking if they could take a look . As we see our naked little group again.. this time everyone is smiling.

The Series picks up

In the first half of the series we see the group adjust to life in the naked world.  They will go bake pies for Halloween, but with no oven mitts they have to get used to baking pies with one of those long pizza baker stick shovel things. They even enter a pie baking competition.  We see an episode of Rod and Red hosting a “science fair” in town , trying to convince the mayor about the awesomeness of Rockets! While they also visit factories and discover all protective clothing has been replaced by some sort of other tech.  So while building their rocket, instead of hard helmets they have to find a way to install ceiling nets,  to everything that could fall, which would ensnare them for a comedic scene. We see Rocky and Autumn  doing a charity event, which would be like a Hallow’s Eve moonlight dance.

We get an episode of Rosey trying to use her perfuming knowledge to develop a more potent sunblock for the group!  The nudists of this world .. never hid their skin so they are much more tanned and don’t sunburn easily but they themselves do.  The town  also holds an  ice sliding event..  in the winter think of curling.. but with people just slipping themselves across the ice,  to land in a circle with points. Like those green soap slides.. mixed with the “new year’s dive”  Then drinking chili-infused hot coco to stay warm. We would see a lot of benefits from naked living as well. For example at one point Rod and Rita start dating, but because you already see each other naked.. that whole Will they won’t they.. and how do I get into those pants.. phase of dating doesn’t happen. People click more naturally and it’s much easier to tell if people are actually into each other.

Eventually the group would be able to go back to their world and all would do so.. the road got cleared up and the portal was found.. the group got rescued around the start of the second half of the episode.  Rita and Rod get married pretty fast in the old world.. and everyone seems happy…. for a while.  Little by little we begin to notice trouble in finding satisfaction in their old lives.   Autumn  for example suddenly notices how much of the day goes by just by doing laundry, how much water she wastes to do so. Rod and Rita go to the beach and see their ugly tan lines.. and Rod having to deal with awkward swim shorts.

Rocky gets insulted for having a geeky t-shirt on and on how much larger social differences are between rich and poor! In the naked world.. they could not see if someone was rich or poor… everyone was much more equal but not here.  Over all everyone discovers how much time they are wasting with very unnatural things such as ironing all your clothes, picking out what you want to wear.. buying new clothes and all those things… The first half would focus on the joys of being a nudist and the second part would focus much more on little adventures that focus on how unnatural we can be at times. With for example a gala, where the news of their rescue and trip is being told and everyone is forced to wear formal clothes that doesn’t fit any of them…just for a good picture in some newspaper or something. Even Rosey has to admit this is not her style…but they are more or less forced.

Mannequins at a formal dinner - Picture of Davidstow Airfield & Cornwall At War Museum, Camelford - Tripadvisor

In the final part of the series, the group has become pretty dysphoric with how things are done here.  Realising that sooooooo much is done on sight and clothing.  This goes as far as that in wars we recognise friend or foe, by their clothes and we can strike without mercy.. without it it is much harder to tell and we are much more to tell who is friend or foe.. so we would be much more willing to open for dialogue.. in life in general.. people don’t go .. oh look at him in his leather vest.. he must be a chad in the other world.. That Stewardess in a plane or that waiter in a restaurant.. you can’t just whistle at them like a dog.. they might be regular people here.. no you really have to remember their face if you want to call them over.. or treat them like a person!   Clothed Earth decides they want to cut down the apple tree though! Because.. what if the naked people try to invade… we should not risk it!   The group is aware of this happening and everyone has to make their decision in which world they want to live.

Red and Rosey have the easiest time to decide. Red will go back to the naked world and Rosey will stay in the clothed world, she has used her perfuming skills there to become a big success but she loves her clothes and the colours so much!  We see them talking to the group conveying both their points trying to keep some friends around… when the others expect Rosey and Red to have a fight on the final day.. They say their goodbyes super friendly!   They respect each other’s worlds, but also acknowledge they really do live in different worlds.. that both worlds have something beautiful to offer but the world of their preference is clear.

The end credits would reveal who had chosen to remain with Rosey and who went back to the naked world… with both groups growing longer with new people.. showing people really dig their beliefs.  A post credit scene would show Red having completed his naked space program.. with Rod having invented a bubble people can go in.. rather than a suit.   As Red looks at the earth from space.. naked.. he smiles constantly and as we see the earth turn..it turns into an apple.. and a cutely dressed Rosey takes a bite off it.…

That concludes my take on a Nudist Slice of Life anime! I know it doesn’t delve into the “actual” real world nudism, which is great in it’s own way! I do admire the people who do not blindly follow that mob mentality while they clearly desire something else.. but as I said, that is not a world I could faithfully create or do justice. I am very much the opposite of a nudist..but I hope this little show will demonstrate worlds like that can perfectly co-exisit, as long as you make the choices you are passionate about! If you have a challenge for me to make a new story let me! Or tell me what you thought of this story! Thanks for reading!

Saiyan Slice of Life: Dragon Ball R&R

Last night I watched something on YouTube I loved so much I just have to gush about it! It had to do with Dragon Ball! But not… the Dragon Ball you might know! I am talking about a series that has not been discovered by that many people yet! I am talking about Dragon Ball R&R. That’s a lot of balls mentioned in this opening.

What is Dragon Ball R&R?!

Now I am a sensible little Pinkie and before I gush about the latest episode I shall give you a little explanation of what this series is about..because believe me.. this requires some explaining. When I tell you that R&R stands for both rest and relaxations as well as Ranch and Raditz, I am sure you scratch your head. Raditz isn’t that the guy that was as weak as a Saibaman that got owned within like five episodes?! You know Goku’s brother?! That is right! The point goes to you!

Raditz was killed my Picollo’s Makankōsappō  technique. Or how it’s know amongst the dubbers, the special beam cannon. I never liked that name. I mean it always felt so thin… hardly something you shoot from a cannon, also I am not sure what made this beam special?! Well it had multiple colours and swirlies so.. sure.. but the literal translation of Demon’s penetrating killing light gun , kinda sounds cooler…though a friend of mine who lives up north just giggled because I used the word penetrating.

I got a bit of track there! This story is not about THAT Raditz… well kinda… but instead of being killed by the Demon’s Penetrating  Killing Light Gun, the guy turned good! You see this series is created by the voice actor of Goku in a little series called Dragon Ball Abridged.  On his own YouTube channel he dabbles in a lot of “What If” Stories. Including my personal favorite and long since concluded series. What if Raditz turned good. It explores the scenario where Goku does that thing he does in befriending originally evil characters and turning them good.

He did this a few times when he befriended Yamcha, Tien, Piccolo , Vegeta and to a lesser extend Majin Buu, Android 18 and Android 17.  The series of Raditz got so popular it produced a spin off show, that appears on a “it’s done when it’s done schedule on Masoko X (Goku’s voice actor in DBZA) ‘s channel, set in a time of rest and relaxation. The time after the Buu Arc and before the Battle of the Gods movie (the super series definatly started at the Universe 6 arc.)

Who is Ranch

To appreciate this series you first kind of have to watch What if Raditz turned good! At least up until episode episode 7! The eight one is where the series goes into the territory of God Ki and R&R takes place before that.  While R&R focusses a lot on Raditz it’s main protagonist is Ranch! Raditz what if daughter. She would be the cousin of Gohan and Goten, being fairly close to the latter in terms of age!

She would also be the daughter of Launch, the most forgotten about dragonball character, who had the power to go blond waaaaaay before the majority of the cast did.  Launch is either a sweet innocent woman with blue her and a clumsy demeanour or a cold mercenary and thief, mostly known for her appearance through the original series. While this is a major plot point of the “what if series” on R&R the focus really is on their happy family life, and in doing so this series gets a wholesomeness. And even if Ranch started of as a side character to a alternate story of two originally throw away characters, she is an amazing addition to the dragon ball world.

Ranch is a female saiyan done right!  While Kale and Caulifla are solid enough characters, mostly Kale is lacking some credibility as she is mostly just nostalgia pandering and fan service towards fans of the original Broly, before he actually became a amazing character. Ranch has much more depth, personality and struggles. You can see some traits of both Raditz and Launch in her and maybe excluding future Trunks ( before Goku Black)  the best Hybrid saiyan I have seen. Already great in the original what if that gets deepend more in this show, in a fascinating audio manga that tells us self contained stories centered around her and her Pappa but also is not afraid to highlight and deepen some other characters we know and love.

Rest and Relaxation

Dragon Ball is a bit of an odd series and mainly in the story of Z there were plenty of “filler”. Fake Namek and the Garlic Junior Saga were horrible and did not happen.  Yet on occasion the show strikes gold. One of the examples in the show’s original runs is now titled “The Driving Episode” in which Goku and Piccolo try to get their driver’s license. It just was super cute and mundane but still Dragon Ball in a sense. Dragon Ball Super did this once again with the Baseball episode. Another great filler like episode that was just so heartwarming and wholesome that you can not help but to love it.

R&R is like a series of that. “What if Dragon Ball had a slice of life spin off”. Masoko seems to know his OC’s (at this point I am gonna call Raditz or at least this Raditz his OC as well.. because it is not the throwaway token character Toriyama made Raditz but an actually fleshed out guy we can root for)  very well and also the other existing characters. He also knows what made the driving episode and the baseball episode work and has captured that magic in this series very well.

While Masoko reprises his role as Goku (as he did with team 4 star) we do not really get the Abridged Goku, we get a take on Goku that is somewhere in between Sean Schemmel’s version and the abridged version. Something that in my opinion is very close to the sub’s original. Serious when he needs to be, but also relaxed and fun loving. As he should be.  His voice work in the series .. like always is great but Courtney Meeker, the voice of Ranch and Afghani as the brother of Kakarot both are great talents as well that give this show some great backbone. Amanda Hufford playing Launch completes the happy little family and while her blue Launch can be a bit laid on a bit to thick, I could not help but go Awwww, each time she voices a line.

Lawrence Simpson as Masako’s real name is managed to cast some great and upcoming voice talents and auditions regularly each time a new character appears in the script.  Always asking for people to go with their own interpretation so it never feels like someone is trying to much to sound like an original voice actor or a DBZA character. Mostly selecting these characters on the sound of their regular voice instead of their screams pays off as this feels like it’s own thing throughout  and really makes the story a joy to follow. After I am done with an episode I do feel relaxed and I still feel I watched Dragon Ball.

 Stand Alone Stories

Like mentioned earlier, each episode is very much made to watch as a self contained story, that loosely flows into the next.  A great format because these episodes are few and far apart. This once again shows that Lawrence Simpson really knows what makes this type of content work.  How to structure these episodes. Because of how low key it is a small teaser of what to come is all we need to wet our appetites for the next episode yet are not turned off by the long wait.  Now let’s take a peak at these stories.

Episode 1 : A Fusion of Fancy?! Trunks and Ranch join Forces!

This “Pilot” episode is my second favorite of the series so far..but all episodes make it to my top 5! In this episode we see the kids taking a closer look at fusion. Since there are three now it makes sense that they would. In this episode they hold a fusion contest among themselves to see which makes the best fusion, Gotenks, the classic we all know and love (except when it comes to gacha games)  Ranten, the male dominant fusion between Ranch and Goten or Raunks the female dominate fusion of Ranch and Trunks.

Goku and Raditz function as the judge..but in typical Goku fashion he wants to join this measurement of strength and even ends up fusing with Raditz into Goditz. This is the only episode that contains actual Dragon Ball fighting and it is great.. yet lighthearted. A perfect episode toe edge us over into the more wholesome territory. There are some clever fighting moves and intresting combinations of techniques like the Final Friday and the Double Kamehameha that really please each Dragon Ball fan.

Episode 2: The Final Cut Goten’s big decision.

Ranking number 4 out of 5 for me this episode deals with a heartfelt issue that I feel the show itself should have addressed. Goten notices he is the weakest of the Saiyans and feels like he will be left behind. Existing only as a way to boost either Trunks or Ranch, he feels like he lacks a own identity which Raditz confirms telling him he is basically just a little Goku. So he starts to wonder if he should change his hair and his looks a bit. In this episode we see a great performance from Jenna Kathleen as Goten and Amanda Hufford as blonde Launch. It really helps giving some depth to Goten and make him feel like a unique character that has his troubles.

It is a great episode that only is held back a bit because of the feeling that it is kicking in an open door. The advice Goten gets is to “just be himself” and while I get that he is a kid and it seems new for him, it all feels so obvious that it loses just a bit of it’s shine. Still it is sincere and it is nice to see the smaller aspects of the dragonworld addressed. This still is a 7.5 out of 10 for me it just shows how good some of the other episodes are.

Episode 3: A Misunderstanding? Gohan’s Peace Offering

This episode has the unfortunate honour of being my least favorite episode. Number 5 out of my top 5, and I am fairly sure that when episode 6 comes out, this one will not be among my favorites anymore. A 6 out of 10 for me, so it’s still a solid one that I can’t help to find less consistent than other episodes.  Ranch gets very upset that Gohan looked away. Feeling said she is not recognised by her cousin makes her run away from home and be upset.
While she is away Raditz flashes back in his past, and Piccolo offers Ranch some guidance. This is one of those Slice of Life tropes I dislike. “The Silly Misunderstanding”  and I felt the characters were less consistent than they normally are. Raditz is pretty logic driven and Ranch got a lot of those traits so it seemed weird she would get upset over something as silly as this.

While this episode should highlight Ranch it is actually Goku who takes the spotlight. He fixes this little family problem using his Instant Transmission in the most inappropriate way possible. He just barges into peoples live and snatches them along to further his agenda.. which seems hilarious and quite like Goku. Forgetting that phones exist. Unfortunately by that time we have already lost half the episode in another form of inner crisis. I probably would have liked this episode more had it not directly followed Goten’s inner troubles or had they been inversed in order. Stacey Cotham who protrays Chi-Chi , who is very prominent in this episode just plays her a bit to flat lacking her spunk.. and I think the that is the perfect analogy for this episode.

Episode 4: STRIKE! Yacha’s Curveball! With an 8/10 this was a great episode to me!

Such a great episode! Perfectly balancing the kids and Yamcha in a exciting but still slice of life like episode. Yamcha is about to retire from playing for the Tai Tan’s in baseball when his manager is trying to fix this final match in an attempt to disgrace him and forcing him to stay. While the parents are learning abotu baseball.. and visiting Yamcha’s matches for both the very first and last time, the kids move into the stadium’s catacombs to deal with the manager played by Geekdom101.

Hook the manager is kinda weakly voice acted by this Dragon  Ball Youtuber , he just doesn’t seem that believable preventing this from being a 10/10 episode. Otherwise this one is amazing. Stanley Kuschick voices an amazing Yamcha and the story is just really touching. It was so nice to see Puar again and see Yamcha get some closure. He fades into obscurity after he got knocked out by Android 20..mostly being just a cameo in the rest of the show. The story written by Lawrence Simpson and his team here.. send Yamcha off in the sweetest way. Including introducing a potential romantic lead for the guy near the end. You can really feel the love for the character here.

Episode 5: Respect Your Roots, Kiddo! A Glorious Story of the Saiyan Race!!

The currently last and absolute best episode in this series for me! I was really blown back by it. In this episode Raditz tell his three children (yes I forgot to mention he had two sons as well.. but they aren’t really in other episodes because they are toddlers, Daikon and Mooli. Goten and Trunks show up to listen in is as well. As Raditz tells the tale we quickly find out he is not really telling the whole truth but his version of it.. to make himself look better.. as the children comment on the weird twists in the story. This episode feels so in character for every single character.. like how Raditz makes Vegeta look bad in the story every chance he gets and how Trunks calls him out for it it is fantastic. There is so much love for the characters here and also for the franchise.

The way the kids poke fun at the plot holes in Toriyama’s lore feels lighthearted but sharp and like something kids would point out. I laughed at the silliness. Yet this episode moved me to tears.  We see Raditz think back on Bardock and Gine, his and Goku’s parents and while Goku completely forgot about them Raditz did not. He misses them, remembering his father and mother say they were proud of him. It ends with the most beautiful family moment and Piccolo and Raditz reflecting on their parents and parenthood! This episode feels like a love letter from a man to his OC and the franchise that inspired it and that is what Dragonball R&R is to me!

With all the what if’s lasting about fifteen minutes and R&R episodes being around the length of a regular anime episode, within a timespan of about four hours you can enjoy one of the greatest Dragon Ball fan fiction series out there! That in some ways feel even more real to me than the orginal! Check out Masoko X’s youtube channel for a very strong series! I shall leave you all with the intro to each episodes! Which will link you to the right channel! Remember I love you all! Keep smiling and let’s make the internet a happier place!

Pinkie in search of a Waifu (Part 2) Bloom Into You

It is time to look for a Waifu again. Last time I looked at the characters of Liz and the Blue Bird and hosted a poll which one I should take to my rose ceremony Liz or Ririka. It ended up a 50/50 tie with one vote each.  Guess these polls don’t do a lot huh! Still I feel slightly more comfortable with Liz anyway so I will be my own tie breaker. She goes to the rose ceremony. On to find my next contestant. This time I will look at a little show called Bloom Into You. When I first started this I thought that all these characters would be a bit too childish for me, and while that thought never completely left my head, I will admit my heart skipped a few beats.  It’s been a while since I felt …understood like this. A lot of the characters in this show would get me.

Conceal Don’t Feel!

This show follows the high school life of Yuu Koito and her journey to (try) and fall in love.  Yuu never really understood love, she waited for that moment to be swept of her feet, but she has never felt it and is convinced she never will. When she sees her upperclassmen Toukou Nanami , a very popular  and seemingly very perfect and promising 2nd year student, rejecting a love confession using the “excuse” that she can’t fall in love.. she gets intrigued by this young woman. (Un)fortunately for Yuu, this senpai soon develops a massive crush on her and the woman she thought was like her now is what makes her most uneasy, yet maybe trough this woman she can finally learn what love is. The moment I saw Yuu make the confession that she never had really strong feelings of being in love and that she expects so much more gave me chills.  This was very close to what I feel… it’s not totally the same but similar enough. I don’t feel that thing you see in the movies either, I hear people talk about it all the time but to me it feels a lot more bland. This show deals with false expectations as heavy theme throughout the show. Yuu has false expectations about love, Toukou has a lot of false expectations and tries to live up to many of them as well. Sayaka Saeki is in love with Toukou, she along with Koyomi Kanou a young aspiring writer and friend of Yuu are depicted as the ones to break through these false expectations but more on them later. Yuu Koiti is a character with a very important message that ironically made me feel things. Romance isn’t  always that disney thing, it’s not about that thing in romantic comedies either where you just go wild with lust. Sometimes we experience things differently or not at all. Yet that doesn’t mean we do not experience anything. Maybe I could be with someone like Yuu because she is someone like me.

(she even kinda looks like my avatar)

Over the course of this 13 episode anime I definitely felt a lot of sympathy and compassion for the young pink haired damsel. The show features a lot of inner monologue which allows us to get to know the main three characters a lot more than through dialogue alone. Being the protagonist that is fairly straightforward and honest to herself we get to know Yuu the best. There is an honesty in her character that isn’t afraid to point out flaws of other characters in order to strengthen their bond I can deeply appreciate in her. She also isn’t afraid to play the mental game. She can analyse what her friends need and how they would react to certain situations and her thought process is very similar to my own.  She can see the need for kisses hugs and affection but isn’t really impressed by it. It’s all sort of nice but not what people make out of it. I feel the same way about the physical expressions of love. While I do not actually mind them all that much , I find them rather irrelevant. While I do like hugging, I do not need like someone to rub my feet.. or warm body to stick my cold feet under..eeew. Sex to me is extremely overrated. It’s kind of like junk food to me. Occasionally you get a craving and than you indulge but I would not want it on my plate everyday..eeewww. When I researched if I might be asexual one guy said the easiest test was to imagine the person of your dreams naked on a bed and a cake. You can only take one. Do this like a 100 times at different times and if you keep picking the cake you might be an ace. I would ask my naked lady friend to put on some clothes so we can share the cake with some tea together while we chat.. so while I do like some attention and love, I crave the emotion not the whole sheet wrinkling thing.

(Even if people stare at me longingly, I just stare back long)

It feels like Yuu might be the same, love feels dull to her. A kiss means little to her, yet that tiny feeling is enough for her. I like that we could have it good together. Unfortunately Yuu feels a bit too young for me. Like I know I should not make anime age to much of a issue her.. but mentally she is still to young. Throughout the show she seems a bit too naive and ignorant at times. She doesn’t really know who she is yet.. and more importantly what she wants yet. While the manga fixes this issue a lot better than the anime in terms of accepting her own preference to women in the anime everything is left a bit unresolved. Which is fine we know she will get there with time and how is left to our imagination, but Yuu doesn’t feel strong enough yet to be a component of the relationship. She is the source of someone’s else’s happiness. The shoe polish that makes someone else shine. She is the sandwich part of a peanut butter and jelly  sandwich. Sure she is an integral part of the relationship but everybody will only talk how nice the peanut butter or jelly are no one ever really talks about the sandwich. I want to make someone shine just as much as they make me shine.. so I feel with Yuu we would more likely become best friends/ near sisters.

(Maybe we could be more than friends…but……)

Don’t Let them Know!

This flaw of Yuu is shown even in the concept of the anime itself. While she is our main character the story of the show is never about her. It’s about Touko, the woman that is interested in her. Toukou  would not be a good match for me because she never really is herself. Which really goes against my own believes. In fact I really dislike Touko. She doesn’t deserve someone like Yuu or the love of someone like Sayaka. Funny enough Yuu and to an extend Sayaka both understand this as well. The great miss Nanami is but a charade that the entire world sees and both know that , that person isn’t really Touko. She is simply wearing a mask. Pretending to be something she is not. Being yourself is a very big theme is this anime as well and trough the series we see everyone learn this lesson but Touko, in fact for a while  thought the series would have ended with her suicide as we only see her get more and more lost. Her loved ones keep telling her to be herself.. but she made it her goal despite their request to be her dead sister. The perfect girl.

(Nobody can know I am not perfect!… No one is perfect so everybody kinda knows)
(That equals FE-E or in other words Irony!)

Of course Touko is only chasing a dream because nobody is perfect. Yet another theme in this story, and a lesson I had to deal with. This show hit close to home in many fronts. I have pretended to me someone I am not, I have wore masks while I knew that that wasn’t the person I was. I strived to be someone I was not.. but that is a goal you can never truly reach. You can never go against yourself too much. So if you try to be not you.. you are doomed to fail, which results in self hate. This show captures that sentiment very well. Touko always reaching for something beyond her reach. Not just in terms of her main mission to become her sister, but to win sports events from actual jocks and to put on an epic stage play without theatre experience as well. The stage play is a perfect metaphor for Touko because everything she says to anyone but to Yuu, and in a very rare case to Sayaka is all fake. Like a script. I felt like that in the past.. I read scripts and I hated myself for doing it. So I completely understand Touko..but as she was at the end of the anime series she would be someone I would get very angry with. When I love someone I want them to be themselves all the time , I do not compromise to only see the real you in secret spaces. I want someone who can wholeheartedly commit to who they are, someone who accepts who they are. Not just who they want to be with. The person who did that best in this show will be my Waifu selection I will take to the rose ceremony with me.

(I shall leave Yuu to you Touko, you might actually be good togehter ..for now)

Let it Go!

Sayaka Saeki is the one character that I found consistently strong and admirable throughout the series. Sayaka might seem to only be a love rival to Yuu but there is so much more to her. Sayaka functions a bit as the “true reality”  of this series. She isn’t someone who has it easy but she mostly sees things for what they are. Even Touko to an extend. One could say she lives to much for the woman she is in love with but unlike Yuu , Sayaka acts mostly in order to keep herself happy. She can’t confess to her beloved because she knows that she will be rejected by her. Which is pretty much established to be true. We see her notice stuff is going on between the two other main characters and she does decide to step in. Block what she doesn’t want as much as she could. Like Yuu she wants Touko to live life as herself but she doesn’t have the same reach as the pink haired damsel has. So the vice president of the student council will have to tolerate that younger girl in order to keep her dream alive. She is the most honest about herself about being attracted to woman and thusly she becomes something that no one else in this show really is. The one who knows who she is. She knows she is into women and that she can not change it. She knows she is into Touko but can not have her , rather than seeking out a mask to hide behind she is searching for reasons not to wear a mask. She is asking other lesbian woman about  their feelings so she can understand hers better. She has tried to change but know that she has failed and that she HAS to be herself. She is very much in a similar step of self exploration as I am. Her more serious and focussed nature might make her seem like a bit of a boring and spiteful character but she needs the right partner. In the past we see her as fun loving and more easy going and that can be drawn out. She isn’t perfect and she is aware of that but she is the only main character that is seeking out her own happiness rather than that of another. That is a very important step and it made Sayaka step right into my heart.

(OMG Saeki-Chan is so adorable like that!)

Now Sayaka got a bit hurt by the anime ending on just a “date” between Yuu and Touko, you have a feeling they will be alright, but Sayaka doesn’t really get much closure. We just see her sitting in a chair with some glasses and a book curled up getting distracted from her reading and that’s our goodbye to Sayaka. Which is a shame..but that same shot happend earlier and that was a moment that I thought “Wow she is cute” and not in the adorable manner like with Yuu in the.. I would not mind curling up next to her with a manga or my Nintendo Switch kinda way. Sayaka doesn’t have an easy life.she discovered she was into girls rather early when her Senpai told her.. It  was just a phase and being a lesbian is wrong. She lived by that mantra and left her private all-girl-school in an attempt to “pray the gay away” hoping that interacting with boys would make her straight again. Only to find out it didn’t. Her dirty blond hair, her little mannerism being al stoic. I think she could push my ambition a bit further while I could make her more outgoing.

(I kinda wish to take Touko’s place.. Sayaka was fun at that moment)

Bloom into you is a great show about identity and the search of it. The three characters all represent a phase we can go through in search for ourselves. Yuu is the one when you haven’t really figured out. When your friends are further in live than you are you could end up as there supporting actor, but you should always play the lead role in the story of your live! You might not be miserable, but everything feels very dulled, as highlights are never about youl. Touko is what you get when you try to be someone you are not. Total and inescapable misery. You will need someone else to break free of this. In my case it was a friend who confessed something major, who was welcomed so warmly that I thought… what am I doing pretending .. this isn’t real. A few months later I was finally be able to take of the mask and be the real me. Sayaka did this as well and while the show does make it very clear that we do not always get what we want in fact, we should always want more than we can have anyway. Because that is how we grow and how we strive. We have to accept that things aren’t perfect and sometimes we do have to settle.

Sayaka accepts she can not have Touko but chooses the happiness her “regular” company provides rather than not having any at all.  While she tries to outdo Touko in school-work she never does, she doesn’t overwork herself but accepts her limits, hence why she doesn’t tell Touko next time she will try even harder. She simply tells her friend that if she slips up, she will be there. Sayaka has been through her own hell, but stays strong, she knows who she is and who she wants to be and makes steps to be happy as herself. I respect her and think she deserves someone who is good for her, she needs someone who is in the same phase of life as her and she is pretty darn cute. So I think we might have found a great match, in a great anime series.
