Pinkie’s Quest for Meat… I think : Mario’s Mystery Meat

Hello little lights, I am trying to streamline my content a bit.. focussing on anime , games and even pokémon things that might seem odd or straight up bizarre. The Princess of weird.. after all that always facinates me.. on this hunt to get a bit more focus, due to limited energy.. I encountered something very strange. A Rom-Hack unlike any others.. Join me as I play … Mario’s Mystery Meat!

Disclaimer

I am aware that the journey I was about to take would take me deep into VineSauce Lore… and I have no idea about what that entails. I assume I will move trough some very specific memes that I might not get.. but I don’t even know what VineSauce is.. all I know is they apparently have a lot of custom Mario lore. A very skillful rom hacker named Enimus decided to turn this all into a game that is more or less cohesive. Do keep in mind though that I have no idea who these characters are, I am here for the rollercoaster of weirdness that awaits me and that will be my perspective.  So please don’t yell at me for describing a character as that “duck thing” ….because let me tell you there are a LOT of “things”  in this game! It all starts with what Mario brother you play. Care to take a guess? It’s not Mario.. so the title is a bit deceptive.. Of course you are not Luigi either, you play the orange brother…. Sponge.
(Pronounced Spongée)

Mario and Luigi love spaghetti but what is spaghetti without a lot of meat. Unfortunately Mario and Luigi are always too busy to save the world to get the meat for their spaghetti so they delegated this to their third brother.. the outcast one.  Sponge is a chronically depressed man who never really goes on adventures but just on trips to the butcher shop.  However on a normal meat run.. suddenly a giant worm thing shows up , to the sound of a PlayStation One starting up. Sponge jumps in his mouth and gets transported to a strange new world.. where has to save Princess Bleach for himself.. from the evil Will Smith and get meat for Mario and Luigi by killing the giant worm. Unlike classical Mario adventures this all happens in a seemingly seamless 2d world. Though  the word world would imply this is a cohesive mesh.. but I am not full sure about that!  Let’s dive into this adventure.

Virtual Boy… for Real Men (and Women)

Mario’s Mystery Meat, is a Rom Hack for Super Mario World, which means it can be played on an emulator or put on a fan cartridge if you find the right guy!   But it is a very special romhack, that features many different forms of Gameplay!  We are introduced to Sponge in a very classical Super Mario World level.. but very much in hte style of how a stage randomiser rom hack works.  Elongated sections of blocks and sped up enemies immediately will show you, this Rom Hack won’t be easy.  Clearing the stage will send you to a twisted Dimension and the Playstation theme boots up.. the worm thing shows upand you jump in it’s mouth. The map we got promised from the beginning is gone.. there is just one stage.. called Meat!

I am filled with confidence that I can handle whatever this game will throw at me.. and it begins with the drop in a pit! Bart Simpson pig shows up.. Peter Griffin with a mushroom cap hat.. a guy cosplayed like Simon Belmont.. and a Luigi shouting NUT! Then I fall even deeper and land back to the 2d stages… a Duck man tells me he hates me.. a duck tells me his dad is mean and so are his brothers. To the right a series of Piranha plants block my path.. so I have to go left where a Chozo statue gives me my first power up! Crying!

Crying is Sponge’s variant of the fire flower, but instead of throwing fire from his hands he throws water from his eyes if he hits something that can be hurt by his tears it turns into coins… like Piranha flowers!  I move on and get faced with an onslaught of ducks and I mean an onslaught! So much that there has been a variant of this rom where the number of enemies was turned down to a more reasonable amount…but I played the regular difficulty version, although later admittedly with save states to save me from some checkpoint tedium.  It is a stage that is somewhere of a 6th to 8th world difficulty in Super Mario Standards.  It is tricky for sure but very doable! I find the letter B and take it with me.. it has to be here for some reason right? I die a few time and can not activate the letter B no matter how hard I try.. so I take it with me across the entire stage.. until I encounter a bird tomb! Which of course is missing a letter B! I place the letter and get access to a new location!

There is some lore to be found in this next room but also a duck that is made out of five duck heads.. all of them a character from Animal Crossing, they , he, it,  gives me a quiz mostly about ducks!  I struggle with this quiz because I am not aware of VineSauce lore but luckily there is no penalty for failure other than starting the quiz over, as a bonus question I have to answer who is fatter Ringo Star.. or Mr Dink.. I chose Ringo .. because why not!  Eventually I pass the quiz and the duck lets me pass a sarcophagus.

I now am in a tomb.. filled with ducks! But everything is shown in Virtual Boy graphic style, black and red with huge scanlines and pieces of picture missing.   I have to jump on huge pigeons who are reskinned Montey moles.. dodge evil   glowey eyed pigeons and skeletal ducks! .. I wonder of this will be all ducks and immediately after. While the screen is still kind of red.. it’s not a virtual boy anymore… a strange eerie clown melody  is playing.. cheerful, almost circuslike.  So of course I get chased by Smiley faces! … This stage is HARD!  Those smiles can be quite unforgiving! By spinjumping on their heads I can avoid harm.. but they chase me hard! Think .. sun in Mario 3.. but now there is like 7 of them!  In batches of 3 and they mad!

Stranger Things

The weirdness hardly ends there,  I go back to pigeon riding for just a bit .. but when a pigeon takes me into the darkness, I suddenly end up on Howard the ducks head.. it absorbs me… and I fall into a deep pit with no way out! A chime from game Earthbound can be heard after which Sponge hears the voice of god! He will help Sponge.. by pissing all over him. This game can be quite infantile at times, with an AWFUL lot of piss jokes! I am not sure if it is is god’s piss but the next series of stages or sections are swimming levels that get increasingly weird. The one that is the least weird has pink blocks with cute little piggies depicted on them launch pigs with lady legs swimming real fast and torpedoes like you. It is a very pink stage.. despite potentially being set in god’s urine so I did really like it. This stage feels by far the fairest in term of difficulty. Just be careful and you will get by just fine. For the second bout of swimming we now are in a very spacy environment.. besides the pigs, there are UFOs and aliens as well. It is super colourful and cute.. so once again I like it… obviously by taking a warp pipe… we would end up in a restaurant.. because that makes sense.

I am then quickly attacked by Ringo Starr.  Had I told the five headed duck from earlier I thought Mr Dink was the fattest, he would have been in the restaurant instead. So from moments like these it is really shown that this game pushes rom-hacking to the limit. The fight is completely in Earthbound RPG style as well, so not only does the game now have branching paths based on choices you made.. it also features elements from other games! Something you don’t often see in Rom Hacks which is incredibly ingenious and only further contributes to the fever dream that is this game. Ringo is defeated by crying in front of him and then giving him 1 cent.. he got what he came for and he wishes me love and peace.. as he fades into thing air. In Earthbound style Sponge Levels up and learns Crying B.. a power that now makes sure he can cry with whatever power up he is using..even when tiny! Cool! But leveling up made Sponge hungry and on the table is a plate of spaghetti that Ringo left untouched…. of course that plate of spaghetti is the next stage……

The Spaghetti stage is where things start to become a bit tedious, as it combines elements of Donkey Kong Country , with classic mario elements.. but also elements from later mario games that weren’t even used yet.. So we got Dk’s spinning barrels, now rebranded as shoes, typical mario moving platforms , now shaped like Pizza’s and the bouncy donuts from later mario games, in a almost sonic style maze, with multiple paths to take.  Not all jumps are doable it seems but across the stage you find several pools, that offer certain upgrades. Liquid Bread bloats you up like a balloon, while CBT oil makes you jump higher but more slippery, Tears make the world seem darker and Pee.. makes you curl up into a ball and shortens your jumping range.  I avoided reading what was in the white pool.. and i did not jump in it either.. I did not trust them!

Regardless, in this stage I used save states a few times, as we get a lot of “jump chaining”  where you have to do 12 incredibly hard and specifically timed jumps in sequence and a fail on  any one will reset you to the beginning. When a lot of enemies are on screen the game can slow down a bit.. which makes precision jumping that much harder. The enemies you encounter here are pirate knives, ..which is a kitchen knife with a pirate costume, a teletubby throwing meatballs and a frog spitting bath toys at you. Oh and weaponised pizza’s!   The stage ands in a fight against an evil sausage.

Go to Hell Will Smith!

After Sponge finishes the sausage he finds the meat he was looking for and it seems my quest is over.. but the game glitches and I now have play a kids games.. Pick the Triangle.. says a kids voice.. so I pick a triangle.  Select the sun.. the kid voices tells me while I can select either a sun or a moon!  Then a Mario yelling piss, shows up and a picture of Jay Leno.. with the assignment to pick the opposite of funny! Since I assume this game thinks piss is funny… I pick Jay Leno and it is the right answer. Next random letters show up.. when I click on one the kid begins to count how many letters there are… there are 6! Six!, SIX! The kid tells me he will send me to hell and soon Sponge finds himself trapped in Hell.. I get consumed by hellfire on a auto running stage and just as I get ready to repeat this ad infinium, I find myself in an alien village that worships Hatsune Miku, the worm and Will Smith. The aliens seem rather violent minded but also to lazy to act on it.  In a bit of an adventure style, I can talk to all sorts of villagers to find out what item to use to get to the right place.  To advance the story.

The goal was to find Yoshi.. but he refuses Sponge because he is just a depressed crybaby, the only way Sponge can prove himself to Yoshi is in Gladiatorial combat against the aliens,  which unfortunatly doesn’t use any different gameplay and just uses classic Mario gameplay, with a lot of hammer brothers to fight! Overall this is all fairly doable but after this the game becomes obnoxiously hard. After getting the approval of Yoshi we have to move through another glitched style setting, trying to raise the creature up to his big form and reach the end of the stage with him. Rough edges are shown here because it is SOOOOO easy to lose Yoshi and there are puzzles to solve that can cause Yoshi to just fall through the floor and you have to start all over again. And all over this time means.. track back a stage or two to get Yoshi back. It’s more annoying than it is hard…. but we are still at Megaman 2 difficulties herre.. not the boss stages yet.. but the trickier regular stages.  If we make it through this stage we get an air combat stage that really is just the level of another game.. but the final boss has been replaced by two will smith stone heads.. with an enlarged forehead.

That stage I would say is the last one that is truly fun to play! After this the difficulty ramps up so hard that it becomes quite frustrating.  The whole sense of being on an adventure also comes to a bit of a halt as things feel even more random.. before   the weirdness had a bit of story to it and this to me is where the game derails. In the last stage that features Yoshi , I am dodging Verizon logo’s giant sorcerers and have to use the cape  and liquid platforms into enemy jumps to progress. It’s a very specific jumping style that feels so horrible.. like a nail on the chalkboard sensation of platforming. Yoshi gets lasered to death by the Will Smith castle as I answer what I assumed was the last stage.

The first step of the castle however is quite fun!  It feels like a great final stage for a Mario game. It is challenging  by riding floating blocks.. doding will Smith shaped Twomps.. and  Will Smith shaped Lava fish and features an enemy that eats the stage! It offers some interesting jump puzzles… the second part of the castle however… made me almost rage quit. In a vertical autoscroll, race to the top against lava, filled with one block wide precision jumps, fake out twomps and trial of error segments we get a stage that is so blood boiling it almost made me quit! Savestates made this manageable.. but this is on the level of those insanely difficult Mario Maker stages.

A Mysterious Rom Hack

Through the power of artificial checkpoints I do pass this stage, but it has broken me!  I notice I do not enjoy the game as much as I did before.  With still two more stages to go the game has become a bit of a slog, yet the weirdness continues to drive me! At the end of the Will Smith Stage you find a button to rewind time.. and suddenly we are back in ancient times.. We get a stage that is entirely upside down.. as in.. you stick to the ceiling.  This is a very long stage that is filled with random shapes like roman arches etc… I honestly considered flipping my lapttop upside down because I feel like this stage could be really cool, but I could not appreciate it as much because everything is upside down for a very long stage.  It is really compelling gameplay wise but there are some rough edges.  You have to grab onto vines  and only on vines controls are inverted meaning up is down and down is up. It made things a lot harder for me to wrap my mind around.. but that could be just being a bit feeble!  What really ruins this stage is the fish!

In this stage , if you wait too long for a jump a fish comes and eats you up, rather than outright killing you it transports you to an alternate dimension of worm things, who sing the Hong Kong 97 loop of I love Beijing Tiananmen. While I love the reference these things are a spawn from hell!  While they can be used to skip through parts of the stage they also can catch you in a loop!  So besides dying.. you can “soft die” .. the game deciding.. you went to slow.. . you have one chance to not start over at the checkpoint but somewhere in between.
I do really love how weird it is.. but it just feels to punishing again. You can’t be fast, you can’t be slow, you gotta move at just the right pace while dodging unicorn Anime girls heads and Donkey Kong heads.. Mr Dink Blueberry inflations and green things! I have no idea what they were. Why is gravity so weird, why is Sponge Naked.. and how did he get his clothes back at the end of the stage.

The build up to the final boss fight is hidden behind an interesting puzzle!  With multiple bad endings and a screen that is so filled with Mario love it makes up for a lot of frustration.  I just have accepted that I think this game was made with emulation’s potential in mind.. you have to cheat because I honestly see now way to do it without it!  The final Boss battle has a very cool first stage similar to Bowser final Clown Car fight.. I really enjoyed it .. especially since we return to a very black and red stage like how our journey started…. the second stage of this fight though is completely impossible to do in a very legit way!  It is just soooo hard.  I could barely even cope with safe states. Most other players I have seen this play used rewind functions and they used that to get through!  Did I miss a rewind power or was it emulation! I am not sure!  For 80% of the game we got an amazing and fascinating adventure but the final 20% is just difficult porn. That isn’t for me.. but it is a very common romhacking thing so I can see a few people get to the end with a very big smile on their face.

A Strange Conclusion

Except for the final stages this really is a great game to give a try, it’s weird, it shows a lot of style, Sponge is quite compelling and the wonderful weirdness does give this game it’s own right to exist.  This is a very good meme game, and it really feels like such a trip! I enjoyed the journey.. I just did not enjoy the car trouble I had on the final stretch and the horrible road at whatever strange place I have landed now. If you like challenging Mario games, this might be a bit too weird though and a bit too easy in the beginning. If you like weird games you will probably experience the same as me. You will love the first part and really hate the late game. The game managed difficulty quite well up untill the very end. Even the verizon stage is still kinda fair.. just with an annoying jump! Just the penalty for losing Yoshi is a bit too harsh. It seems this Rom Hack was made for a too specific audience.

Now I do not know the Mario skill of the VineSauce followers or people who made it for someone to stream or something.. I don’t know how VineSauce works or how it works.. I barely know what it is. So perhaps I am missing something and this difficulty serves the purposes I am not aware of. So honestly, this is a weird one..  in all sense of the words. Do I recommend you playing it? I’d say yes… maybe up until you defeat the sausage?! You get the meat  and you can see that as the game ending.  Up until that point it a super fun game, after that there is still some fun to be had.. but see that more as your “lost levels” Bonus content you can play!  The Princess Bleach plot line gets abandoned and the story doesn’t really resolve in any way in the end, so  there is no real ending.  So just play the game until it stops being fun for you! That is the best way to play this!

Now normally I would end with a nice picture.. but this time I wil lend with the I love Beijing Tiananmen Loop for you to enjoy! Shine on little lights. Oyasumi!

A New Video! My First Dislike! The Sweetest Beef Bowl

Hello Little Lights! I am still chasing that dream to be a VTuber content creator! So I decided to make a video about my favourite subject, Pokémon! Since I try to profile myself as a Seiso type character, which means it’s pure and wholesome! Okay I may have murdered a pokémon professor in the video because I did not get to nickname my sweet but I think I am still rather wholesome…compared to other VTubers.. I was kind of proud of this video.. It isn’t that great or flawless.. but I put a lot of work in it. Yet this was the video I got my first dislike on.

Sweet Ambition

In this new video that I really wanted to make when coming up with my channel,  I created the Pokémon Sweet version.  It’s one of the earliest Rom Hacks  I played on this channel , and despite its flaws is still one of the most unique and fun rom hacks that are out there!
It is just so cute and totally me!  The grass is pink! Well at least the low grass is! It is the pinkest pokémon game you’ll ever see! So of course I will replay this!

There have been some technical issues caused by me using a laptop. Which causes a slight lag between video layers so the lip sync isn’t that great! But luckily I think I might have found a solution for that in the next video!  Which will be awesome!  I just had so much fun making this video and I hope it shows! Like I said about my previous videos, this is really a dream that I now can begin to chase, so I would really appreciate it if you could interact with the video.  The last video did not reach my goal of 10 likes, but it got me 2 new subscribers!
So the goals for this video remain the same!

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor pink like button

-Get 10 Likes on this video… maybe 11 because of the 1 dislike I have gotten.
– Reach 25 followers.

I really would like to get this thing started a bit and interaction is a great way to help out with that. Of course if you have any pro-tips on how to make cuter Twin Drills in VRoid Studio I am all ears as well!  I know it kind of looks like I am begging for likes.. and in a way I am.. but I really wish to chase these dreams.. and I consider you all friends that can help.
My real life friends would not though…so I am not really expecting you to interact either, I am just asking you to consider. Check out the video to make up your mind!

Future Videos

So now that I have given this a bit of thought, I have a pretty good idea on what my next videos will be.  My next video will be me doing a top 5. Most likely top 5 , Switch games coming out this year. I may change my mind about that though I am fickle.. but at least the concept of the video will be a  non gameplay video. Which is more of a socialish video!  A bit more edit friendly and that allows me to just talk a bit. It will be fun!   These will usually have some angle of actuality! Like a Tweet that hit me very hard , or an event that took place.  Stuff like that.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor super ghost and ghouls

The fourth video “series” is  not a let’s play but rather a review type  discussion of a game.  Usually from my past!  It will cover a game I played in the past, that is special to me.. or that is quite bad or straight up strange !  Think Angry Video Game Nerd meets VTuber, with some room for childhood classics as well.  The game I want to discuss first is Super Ghouls and Ghosts, since a sequel is finally coming out at the end of the month! It will be talking more about the game and less of a live reaction emulation. I am quite excited for this one!
After those two are done we will start my “routine”

-A Retro-Style Game Playthrough (Let’s play)
-A Pokémon Game Playthrough (Let’s Play)
-A Top 5/Pinkie Talk
– A Game “Review”

I am really determined to make my channel work so I am really excited to be making these videos!  I have found new communities to interact with and I think this allows me to grow as a content-creator. YouTube is a harder platform to master though! It lacks the community WordPress has and guiding people to my videos is a lot more involved.  So I apologise if these types of blog posts are obnoxious to you!  I am just trying to get this thing started and grow my channel! I promise you that after I reached a few milestones I will bother you less with it!  Video or text though it still is my content .. so if you are following me for me.. I hope you do not mind!

Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy my video! I will see you soon little lights!  Thanks for being such awesome community members! Shine on and keep being the awesome you that I love!    Oyasumi!

Pinkie Plays: Moemon Emerald Extreme Randomiser Nuzlocke Episode 6: It’s Froppy!

Hello again my little Lights, welcome back to a new Installment of Moemon Emerald Extreme Randomiser Nuzlocke. After the silly death of Souji next week I am really hoping I can get through a week without losing Moe’s! We got a pretty good team right now as we slowly will make our way to Flannery. We will get a fair few number of encounters, but a lot of trainer battles.. and an egg as well!  So today anything might happen!

The Team

Ace: Miku the Jigglypuff (Lvl 25)  Crush Claw, Camouflage, Flail, Super Sonic
Ability: Wonder Guard (Can Only be hit by Super Effective Moves)
2nd: Usagi the (C)Raichu (Lvl 24) Thunderpunch, Spark, Stockpile  Shockwave
Ability: Effect Spore (Can leave a Status Effect on Contact)
3th Murmur the Porygon 2 (Lvl 24)  Earthquake, Hyper Fang, Cut and Morning Sun
Ability: Poison Point (Can Poison when physically hit)
4th Ika-Chan the Tentacruel (Lvl 23)  Hydro Cannon, Hydro Pump, Bubble Rain Dance
Ability: Huge Power (Doubles Physical Attack)
5th Asuka the Fearow (Lvl 23) Sky Aerial Ace, Headbutt, Foresight, Milk Drink
Ability: Stench (Has a 10% Flinch Chance and encounters less wild Pokemon)
6th Hisoka the Mr. Mime (lvl 23) Heat Wave, Barrier, Light Screen, Pyscho Boost
Ability: Hustle (Physical moves are 50% more powerful but miss 20% of the time)

Screams of Joy

To continue our journey something has to learn Rock Smash.. will I take less Moe and Chi-Chi as a slave with me?!  Do I teach someone Rock Smash what I will do?!  Since Tentacruel has 3 water moves I decide to teach Ika-Chan  Rock Smash for now..it will be a useless move in combat.. but so is bubble right now.. and I really want to get everyone to their levels! The move deleter is pretty far away still .. but heck I might find a Kyogre Moe for me to catch anyone so let’s live a  little! And then it is encounter time! I think! Wait! I first need to get the HM for Strength in Verdanturf town! I encounter a few trainers but with an actually versatile team I don’t get. Hisoka learns Solar Beam.. because.. why not! I am not coming back to this town any time soon!  I decide to hold teaching strength for now but Murmur looks like she might be a HM slave! I do encounter a very cute Tsundere Granbull on my way back though! So it’s all worth it!

Time to head up North! Ika smashes some rocks and behind we find a journalist who wants to challenge me and interview me. Her camera man uses a Magikarp and she uses a Solrock and they are easily defeated. The next trainer has a single Celebi.. who falls to Asuka! I believed I could walk into the sandstorm a bit to get an encounter.. but apparently without the goggles I can’t even take a single step! I remember being able to walk here but it being a hassle without the goggles.. Maybe I have been hallucinating again!   Guess that happens from staring at all those Lava Lamps. Guess it is to route 112! This route has great memories for me! I found my first shiny ever here! A shiny Machop! What will my encounter be this time?! …EEEEEEEEEEEEEE! It’s a Bulbasaur! I need to  catch this! Sorry Murmur you will be booted off the team! I got my favourite starter! EEEEEEEEEE! It took me almost all my great balls but EEEEEEEEEE! Tme to skip some grinding and to add Froppy to my party!

Creepers!

After grinding Froppy has learned Strength (as she had no coverage and physical strength is mixed) she knows Giga Drain, Vine Whip and Synthesis.  Well actually he.. bit these are Moe so that’s debatable!  Next it is onto the Fiery Path to catch another Moe! What will it be.. will it be just as awesome?! It isn’t .. It’s an Onix.. that is not great ..but I did pick up a metal coat!  I name it Izumi and send it to the box for now!  I also get a static Rock Smash encounter .. A Magnemite that I call Yuhachigo.. it goes to the box as well!   But hey I have Moe in reserve now! Things are looking up for Pinkie!  Then we are on to the most confusing thing for a Pokémon Nuzlocke of these games! What looks like a new route is actually route 112 again! Hoenn has so much of these moments! Super confusing!

I encountered a super strange Moe in the form of Lileep! I don’t even think it’s an anime girl! I am not sure what it is! I shared the picture with you! Tell me what you think it is! I know Ika-chan sure thought .. “I need to get the Distortion World out of here!” We beat the Lileep and some other trainers, before I discovered a house called Old Lady’s Rest Stop… Uhm…. is this a bathroom for old ladies?! No! This is a house where an old lady asks 10 year old girls to spend the night with her.. and keeps asking for you to stay over more! ….The heck is wrong with this world! I now get why Team Galactic wants to erase existence! This is NOT okay! I don’t know this old lady! Well let’s quickly move on! Rest my tiny bones?! It feels like she wants to collect them and build stuff with it or something! Creepy!

Next I encounter the weirdest trainer class I’ve ever seen.. Ghostwriter!  I never heard about it! I can’t even find info about it! The heck is going on in this area. a ghostwriter and a bone collecting lady!  I teach Ika-Chan Muddywater instead of Hydro Pump.. it is slightly more accurate and even though it is less powerful, the accuracy drop  is great. in Nuzlockes and it has a fair bit more PP which can be nice in stally battles! The next route is covered in Ash completely which doesn’t make the bone collector and the ghost writer less creepy! My encounter is a Venomoth .. which is okayish I guess! It is named Neppy and sent to the box! Now to get through this route! I remember normally disliking it because it has a lot of encounters popping up everywhere! I  see an item but I have to  get through a double battle to get it!  It actually has a Spinda, the thing you get too much on this route!

Through the Ashes

I decided to teach Usagi Night Shade, just so she has something else than electric moves to hit enemies with, it isn’t great but she hasn’t learned anything in over 20 levels of leveling! She needs something to deal with enemies as the electric type is resisted by a fair amount of my enemies! This fight turns out to be super scary though!  The trainer has an Armaldo that knows Destiny Bond.. a move that  kills you . .if you knock out the enemy that used it.. and Ika–Chan will definitely knock  them out!  Saving my baby Usagi chan, I decide to swap in  Asuka .. and she almost gets killed by a Rock Tomb. We scrape by but trigger another battle, which is witteling us down more and more!  The item I chased turns out to be a Fluffy Tail.. while that sounds cute.. it basically means you throw the tail of another creature in the battle.. so enemies attack it.. and you can run away.

Now I am running out of potions ..so I stop by a house hoping it’s another  bone collecting lady that allows me to rest.. but no .. this is a guy that is a glass blower.. he gives me a big bag to fill with Ash in order so he can make me glass tools! He huffs and puffs! .. Wait.. he is the Big Bad Wolf!!! EEEEEK!  Horror!  Well let’s collect come ash then if he ever attacks me I can throw it in his eyes!  I decide to lead Froppy since she is bulky and has plenty of moves to use! Maybe with that Moe I can reach the next town! I keep getting attacked by Ninjas though! Seriously what’s wrong with this world.. I mean they call themselves Botanists.. (again where can you find that trainer class?!)  but they clearly are ninja’s.. Chuunin though!

Everything goes a bit downhill after that. Miku gets burned, Ika-Chan gets paralysed, Usagi gets poisoned, Asuka is in red health,  and Hisoka gets hit by a Shadow Ball by A Magmar.. and puts on 2hp! We narrowly escaped death there!   As a result levels begin to grow a bit more skewed. Froppy is my strongest Moe now followed by Miku! I have to start using Repels more to make my way through this route!  We sneak by a few trainers and enter Fallarbor town! I heal everyone up and go back to finish off all the remaining trainers! I always feel compelled to do that!  A trainer class called “servant”  has A MAchoke that looks like she might be a Yare Yare Daze girl.. she also has a pretty sexy  Poliwrath.. well except for the boxing gloves!

I then explore town a bit as I know there is a TM for Roar on a villager, as well as the move Dig.. these both get randomised. Roar gets randomised to… Roar… Eh?! Frizzle Sticks!  Dig gets randomised to Sketch! Son of a.. Skitty!  I have had the worst TM  luck!  I also decide to stock up on potions again! Since the store is randomised  I check for interesting items but there are none! Just some X items that boost a stat! They can be neat but with a Randomiser of moves they aren’t all that reliable for defence at least! So I decide to only use them if I pick them up from the ground. While investigating here I discover that some kind of professor  that has gone missing. Ah… you know you realise that PoliceMan is a trainer class right? Though with our luck they have been reclassed to Burglar.. or something obscure like “Bubble-Tea-Vendor or Something” .  So when you can’t count on the  police I guess you carry the 10 year with a bunch of magical girls! That actually makes a lot more sense now that I say it out loud! I am an immortal Moth after all!  Okay  guess I will be a good girl one more time .. but after that , no more chores! I am here to do the Pokémon League!

Pinkie Plays: Final Fantas VI – Return of the Dark Sorcerer Episode 3 : Old Love

Hello Little Lights, I once more return to one of the more bizarre Rom Hacks I have played. My favourite Final Fantasy got transformed into a bizarre mix of RPG and Anime references. So far we recruited Cloud Strife, fought enemies from Dragon Quest and Disgaea and in the last episode we fought against Predator, Vega (from Street Fighter)  and of course Raditz! The heightened difficulty might make this a bit troublesome though! Let’s see how our adventures go this time and if we will go for a fourth instalment!.

It’s Boring Again

I just left from a fairly challenging dungeon so I expect the game to go lenient on us, yet the first enemy of the new area is a Mind Flayer, which takes a lot of violence to take down, two ki blasts, a poison nova and and Blade Beam from Cloud!  Why don’t I mention Aurora! Didn’t see anything? No she did not because she got turned into a pig! Now this is a change from the status Toad.. but I would think a Toad is a bigger punishment?! So why a pig?! Doesn’t  Gi Nattak, the creator of this Rom Hack know that frogs are better than pigs?! Except as pets!   Bulbasaur is a Frog and Tepig is a pig… and guess which one is the better starter! I do like the little light the mind flayer has on top of it’s staff though! I feed the party pig a Tulaberry and it turns back into Aurora.

I decided to level everyone up to at least level 12 and kind of make a promise to myself that in each new area i will gain one level for everyone… However I do spend very long grinding and getting this done!  However the result is pretty good! Aurora learns a spell that should petrify but for now seems to insta kill at the cost of costing a lot of Mana and Ronan learns a new combo.. as I try to master this new combo I  spend a fairly long time to familiarise myself with it, the shoulder buttons followed by up down seems simple but for some reason I kept messing it up! After what seems like a long time for search an early level however everyone is the level I want  them to be and I can enter the lair of the Crimson Blades and speak to Astral.

Unfortunately for me Astral is not the spirit thing from Yu-Gi-Oh ZeXal, I didn’t really expect it to be.. but that was the only Astral I know and with how this game has been going I would not even be surprised to fight the Robot Micheal Jackson from Moonwalker so who knows!  It’s just some fruity old wizard who upsets Aurora by talking about Pandora’s box though!  She got controlled by the slave crown and all that.. but once again I find myself a bit disinterested when the story takes itself so seriously. I know this stuff happens in the original game and I like it there but here it is just told much less adequately which comes from the lesser sound design

Bonetrousle on a Rivier… with Rick James

This game shines best when it is being out of the box and here the creators are once more stumbled by their own ambition. Cloud begins talking about how someone important to him was killed by the Empire and that is kind of interesting.. is it Aerith?!  Locke had a sleeping beauty of his own … will Aerith be that person..does that mean Tifa will be Celes?!  The scene is ruined though by his second line “I joined the Crimson Blades to avenge “That Person” .. that’s not how you talk about people that are important to you! You address them with a proper pronoun.. I might be nagging here.. but this is annoying to me.. it just feels like a fake line to keep us in suspense. It feels written. FF VI was so organic.

I decide to let Aurora join the rebels without much issue and the river scene is next, for some reason the trees are blue  and the rocks are green.. it does feel nice and otherworldly and Ronin plays like a bunch of Moogles. He can inverse (shift the enemy to a backrow)  or cast Miracle which I think is a group heal but I am not fully sure what it does!  Choosing my directions I assume the choices will differ from the original so I go wild and pick! I do find some treasure underway but nothing all THAT special! The music here though  is killer! It has this Sega Genesis Vibe to it that I really really like! See this game is at it’s best when it is like this! I make my way down the river fully expecting a hard boss battle. I spare Aurora from using her magic!  So she can nuke the boss which normally is Ultros… but this time it’s… RICK JAMES?!!

No just kidding,  it’s Ultros.. whose saying he is Rick James! That’s ..random?!  Ultros does look a bit different though all orange like and more defined.. like in later editions. Bonetrousle plays as the boss theme! What the heck am I in for?! Turns out it’s nothing special! Ultros is a bit of a push over! It does spout a lot of referential stuff though. Boondock Saints, Lord of the Rings and much more!  He even calls people out on their class which is kinda cool!  Then the whole Not-Sabin gets separated from the group bit and that will lead to what normally is the Cyan meet.  Or I could play as Cloud and meet what would be Celes.  Thirdly I can play the main party and go back and go Fraust… that one I will save for last! ..I guess I will go Cloud’s adventure first! I assume this will lead to meeting Tifa. She seems to fill Celes role in more ways than one!

Shape Shifters

So for the first part of Cloud’s Story I am going to have to do that weird item trading thing that happens in Final Fantasy 6.. however this time random NPCs are replaced with characters throughout gaming history. Shang Tsung wants a drink for example..why?! Not sure!  He fills no role but they edited the sprite to look like him! It just gets better after that though! Cloud buys a Silk Dress.. seeming very eager to buy it too!  When the sales woman asks him if it is for his girlfriend he just says.. yeah  something like that! Oooh this is going to be good! Little did I know it then.. but what follow would be a sequence of events so good I could not tear myself away!  So I am all writing this after  I stopped playing at this point! The goal here was simple.. find a merchant that gives you a Hourwatch,Give that Shang Tsungs grandson for access to another part of town, by the silk dress Cloud is known for.. a guard meanwhile has lost at cards and will let you on if you beat the guy who took it from him. From there on out you can go to the inn, beat a shady merchant for some rum and give that to Shang Tsung who gives you a riddle towards a secret entrance..

However there is so much more in town, the love returns, random houses have completely customised sprites such as the I am Error Guy from Legend of Zelda II.  He looks like a 16 bit rendition of the original who said it while it would have been way easier to just let another guy say it , the reference would have landed anyway.  There are little things like this everywhere. In the secret base Cloud transforms into his crossdressing form and he can investigate the enemy base. Inside there is a room for playing children. Much like normal..BUT, this time there is a Chrono Trigger pet in the room,  there is this gameboy creature that is a reference I do not get and there is a Yoshi doll on the table. Non of it has a function but it all moves and is interactable with. Then you find the Dungeons and my suspicion turns out to be true!  Tifa indeed does take the role of Celes!

Gameplay wise however she is a combination of Sabin and Setzer and Celes’s Magic. Tifa can cast a few good White Mage spells, such as Protect, Shell and Cure as well as some ice magic. She also can punch twice with both her weapons equipped. However Tifa also has Reels.. her Limit Break ability makes an appearance in this game so  the character feels sooooo much like Tifa. Get three boxing gloves in a row and you get Beat Rush as an attack, get three slimes in a row and you get Water Kick..  get a non matching combination and you get Lucky rabbitt a weak heal that also casts Esuna on the entire party clearing them of any negative effect. Tifa is really powerful in this game and I really like playing as her.  While her dialogue is a bit stale when it comes to seeing Cloud, they barely know each other in  this world, and she wonders why he cross dresses. You have to rescue some other prisoners before you leave and the key the enemy drops is the boss key from the legend of zelda. It’s not on screen for more than two seconds yet the original item was painstakingly replaced with a new item . Kudos .  During all of these events various Final Fantasy VII music plays. I love being a gamer!

The Trip to Fraust

After escaping town you’d think we would be just about done with the awesomeness, but no, we get two random Crimson Blades travelling with us. One is called Gus.. and the other.. I forgot his name already.. something like Winston. Winch.. Winny! It’s getting late and I got sucked in so I forgot to take a proper screenshot of his name!  Let’s call them Good Guy Biggs and Wedge for convenience sake!  GG Biggs has  the ability Mimic, which  allows him to Mimic whatever party member goes before him.. although at a bit lower power… this is awesome! It means I can cast Cloud’s Limit Break .. TWICE.. Tifa’s Reels.. Twice.. and well GG Wedge is a dragoon so he can leap up and come down.. and GG Biggs can copy that as well.  It feels so delicious!  Do I risk it all on the slots?! Those sure are my most powerful moves but there is risk involved, if I pull if off though I totally decimate the field and I love it.  It feels a lot easier to get pairs than with Setzer as well, I miss about 1 in three times I think  Which means that fighting with Reels is about as effective as attacking normally, with Reels more focussing on burst damage and normal attacking on reliability.

The final boss of the chapter is the iconic Guard Scorpion, the final  boss from Final Fantasy VII , while it’s appropriate boss theme plays as well. But that’s not all, it’s being pilotted by classical final fantasy monster Tonberry… it’s so hard to notice but my friend pointed it out to me while we were discussing how awesome this is!  Suddenly that Dragoon Jump ability is super useful because the Guard Scorpion targets people for it’s more powerful attacks.  Jump.. kind of works like fly in Pokémon so imagine seeing your enemy use Solar Beam on you and then you choose Fly.. dodging the Solar Beam next  turn. I felt nostalgic seeing those attacks being rendered in 16 bit.. and after that false start I had a blast with the gameplay session I had.  When this game is paying tribute to stuff it is amazing! Cloud and Tifa have a cute interaction before leaving and now I have to pick if I will follow Ronan’s story or Aurora’s. I will go with Ronan’s story next and that will be our next episode!

That episode will be an important one as well. For now I have established that the content that Gi Nattak makes to highlight our amazing geeky history is amazing.. but the story content they create themselves.. is much less captivating. If I enjoy Ronan’s story I might play this game until it gets too hard for me to progress (I know I will hit that point)  if I do not like it I will play the game up to the Esper Transformation and remember the amazing refferences fondly… but I will move on to a new project cancelling the show after a season finale as it were.. soon we will find out…but not today!

Pinkie Plays: Moemon Emerald Extreme Randomiser Nuzlocke Episode 5 – Hisoka

Hello again little lights we are already at the fifth installment of our Moemon Emerald Extreme Randomiser Nuzlocke, and while the series isn’t going well in terms of views I am having a blast playing through the game like this! A blast AND a lot of pain I have made a weird twist with my neck and I am in a lot of pain right now. So this week you might see a lot of Moemon content as I focus on getting my YouTube started and getting rid of my pain and focussing on my health a bit as well.

The Team

Like with the past few episodes let’s begin with a recap of the current team! That team is unfortunately is one member short!  Right now our five precious moe’s are:

Ace: Miku the Jigglypuff (Lvl 22)  Crush Claw, Camouflage, Flail, Super Sonic
Ability: Wonder Guard (Can Only be hit by Super Effective Moves)
2nd: Usagi the (C)Raichu (Lvl 21) Thunderpunch, Spark, Stockpile  Shockwave
Ability: Effect Spore (Can leave a Status Effect on Contact)
3th Murmur the Porygon 2 (Lvl 20)  Earthquake, Hyper Fang, Cut and Morning Sun
Ability: Poison Point (Can Poison when physically hit)
4th Souji the Corphish (Lvl 20) Rock Tomb, Pain Split, Pay Day, Octazooka
Ability: Rock Head (Does not take Recoil Damage)
5th Asuka the Fearow (Lvl 20) Sky Aerial Ace, Headbutt, Foresight, Milk Drink
Ability: Stench (Has a 10% Flinch Chance and encounters less wild Pokemon)

Punching Oneself To Death

After the funeral, last episode, our journey begins with a trip to Slateport.. I forgot I could fish in that ocean and right now we can really use a good encounter! I am hoping for something like an Aron or maybe a Scyther. Oh boy.. I can’t wait to see what I will get…..it’s a WEEDLE! Reee!  That’s no Bueno!  I named it Chi-Chi and decided to grind it up until it becomes a Beedrill so I can see her ability. It has Hustle.. which isn’t bad for a Beedrill to have as it does boost Physical attack.. but in trade for a chance to miss… which isn’t great in a Nuzlocke! I might level it more if my other encounters will be worse though! Chi-Chi is carrying a Move though .. it’s Petal Dance.. which is a pretty powerful grass type move.. but since it locks you into attacking for multiple turns it is terrible for a Nuzlocke! Well.. Muk!  Time to move to Mauville then.

On our way to Mauville I got into a simple trainer encounter with a guy having a Dugtrio!  I switch Souji in and he gets confused by Swagger.  I fully believe I would live one hit and Dugtrio goes for Dig.. so I fully believe I can switch out.. then Souji oneshots itself. What the heck!?!  How did that happen.. he had a little bit of damage on him but he did way over half his own health in damage! That should not be possible! Well.. to the Death Box..I guess we will pick up Ika-Chan the Tentacruel. I begin grinding him up..this should at least give me some bulk. But grinding is going to take a while! I make a special rule  that catch up grinding  has no Permadeath.. I can level a Moe back up to the level of the party with Speed Up on, so I don’t lose hours and hours. It will also help with me not forming a bond with the new thing yet, so you don’t miss out on that. Souji had a sober funeral..  mostly because I already left a corpse on this route.. second because his insurance doesn’t cover self imposed demises. Luckily it hit itself so hard it was partially in  the ground already!

At the final level of the grind Ika-Chan learns Raindance which helps boost their water moves ..and now we are good to go again! Let’s defeat the final trainers up this route and head to Mauville city and get an encounter!  The bulkiness of Tentacruel allows for a much more progress then I had anticipated. Asuka and Ika both level up to level 22 catching up to the party fairly easily. So far I am succeeding at keeping everyone’s level close together but if other Nuzlockes are an indication that might change soon enough.

A Pink Clown

I reached Mauville which means I have to roflstomp Wally.. he uses the Super cool name Bug Catcher Landon to try and intimidate me.. but the boy only has a level 16 Kadabra. I would love to make it an event in the city..but yeah . .I literally only use one move to defeat my second rival! Now that the path to the gym is open to me.. I guess.. I will go hunt for Pokémon to fill the team or something.. bye Wally! Next I have an encounter at route 117, a fishing encounter at route 118. I could try to get a coin case and check what the Slot Machine Pokémon are.. and I can walk up north where I fight a family and maybe get an item. I go route 118 first for the fishing encounter because it is least likely to be good, due to being underleveled and of course I stumble in a double battle accidentally.  It forces me to swap in the Immortal Jigglypuff as Usagi is in danger but I win the fight fairly easily and Miku wants to learn Moonlight! No you don’t get a healing move! You can’t be hit!  Next fight!

Usagi washes the trainers that are on the route and my fishing encounter is a Togetic.. however since Togekiss doesn’t exist yet.. that Pokémon isn’t very good! I name it Lisanna and put it in the pc. It doesn’t have great stats and I am facing legendaries pretty much constantly, it’s ability Swarm powers up bug type moves which makes it even less usable. I can’t walk around with you..though I might carry it as Death Fodder if need be.  Let’s see if route 117 is better for me!  A Mister Mime Shows up there.. after I accidentally hit the speed up button instead of the sprint button and dash into the grass. Not bad! I swap in Miku and let her use Flail which now holds no power to reliably weaken my opponent. It breaks a lot of Pokéballs but in the end a great ball manages to capture it. It is a Mr. Mime indeed as the gender is male as well. I decide to name it Hisoka.. I mean a male pink hair clown with a feminine body.. pretty much spot on!

One tedious training montage later, we travel north to fight the Winstrates! Hisoka’s moveset isn’t great , with Trash and Heat Wave as it’s offensive moves! It does possess both the barriers so that is a good thing at least but I would like if it would at least get one stab attacking move, so I can protect my dearest Miku! Let’s see how we fare against the Winstrate Family! After that we can challenge the gym! The Winstrates offer the perfect opportunity for Hisoka to catch up with the rest of the group! He even learns Psycho Boost… a move Gardevoir had as well!  While I do outlevel the Winstrates by a significant amount.. they are no slouches. Arcanine, Metagross, Aggron.  This family has some high quality Moe!  Since the battle is a gauntlet of four trainers, Hisoka almost ends up dying but I swap in Miku to heal him up a bit! Swapping him back in to Heatwave the Metagross as Miku can’t touch it. We win but we spend a lot of those Soda Pops we won on the beach to not have any losses here! On the way back I pick up a second Amulet coin, which I give to Hisoka.
With his barriers he is a good lead after all!

The Third Gym

This gym is made for double battle… but this time I wised up. I sneaked around trainers to talk to them and challenge them to solo battles. After all in Solo battles you have a lot more sense of control! The first gym trainer easily gets beaten. She uses a Weedle that gets finished by Ika-Chan and Hisoka uses Heatwave on a Pineco! The poor thing.. it looked so cute hiding in it’s armor and now it’s dead! The second trainer has a Milotic and an Anorith. Usagi and Murmur take care of those.. but not before I make a swapping error and Usagi takes some unneeded damage!  This forces me to retreat from the gym and heal up for the next part! With my team being as it is I am beginning to notice I can make a lot more  tactical swaps and no longer do I have to settle for the next best thing. T he second to last gym trainer uses an adorable Chinchou but I forgot to screenshot it.. and an Entei is the Moe of choice for the last trainer. For the first time in all my Gym battles I am sweeping these… do note that route 110 was littered with Jirachi and Articuno and since Articuno might learn Freeze Dry and Jirachi can use one shot moves as well.. I killed them all.. so I am a tad overleveled now .. I think

The fight with Watson is next.. or as he would like to be called Bug Catcher Scarlett!
The First Pokémon he sends out is a level 20 Victreebel! I lead with Miku! I already lost one Pokémon this episode, I am not going to make it two… especially since I am out of good encounters!  Umara can be useful late but for now she and Chi-Chi the beedrill are usable to me.. let alone Lisanna the Togetic. They can have their Cheetos party in Box 1. Miku defeats Victreebel who has Aeroblast.. Lugia’s Signature move and we go into the second round. Jolteon versus Murmur. My Porygon2 has an Earthquake so Jolteon should not be  too much of a problem… Jolteon outspeeds and deals 25% damage still and Porygon2 is fairly bulky! That would have killed Ika and Asuka. His next Pokémon is a Lugia.. cowardly I swap in Miku! Which is a good thing I did because that too carries Psycho-Boost! My guess is that it got randomised into the “confusion” move slot and that is why so many low level Psychic Pokémon know that move. The Final Pokémon is a level 24 Whismur.. I guess I wasn’t that over leveled after all!  I just got lucky in a gym for once! I decided to let my precious Usagi finish the pink thing!

The fight is done and I get a badge and a brand new move.. this time it’s ……..NIGHTSHADE?!  That would have been useful for the past few levels but I am JUST at the point where the move isn’t all that reliable anymore! It is a move that does set damage so it would be good when my type coverage was worse.  I am not having much luck with these types of moves.  I am content we got an easy gym win though! Right now we are about on par with the gym leader’s Ace which means a team of six should mean we are about the perfect level when we face Flannery. If we don’t encounter too many legendaries OR low level bugs! Maybe next week we can go about with having no funerals. With three deaths we are nearing the halfway point of our journey.. the fight against my father will most likely be easier.. his Slaking will be randomised.. but at the same time.. all it takes is one Huge Power Slaking with a fighting move and all my Moe can die! I feel alive! I am enjoying this journey…and I like how random it all feels!… I just need to control myself a bit more..for greater success! Now if you excuse me I have some lamps to stare at!

The Entire Moemon Nuzlocke Series

Pinkie Plays : Moemon Emerald Extreme Radomiser Nuzlocke (Episode 3) A Brawl with Brawly

Hello once more little lights! It is time to continue my playthrough of a very special Pokémon game.. modded so instead of Pokémon it is all Magical Girls. We have had a great start so far and now are nearing the second gym with zero fatalities.. but a fair few close encounters! With our wonder guard Jigglypuff things are looking good for now.. but what about  the rest of the team! Will we be able to defeat Brawly.. what team and moves will he have.. and what will he be called! Find out in today’s episode..  or read back on the other Nuzlocke posts at the bottom of this piece.. Basics and rules are explained in Part 1. The entire series can be found in the post Carousel at the end of this post!

Poorly leveled!

We start the episode off with a Team Recap! Currently we have Sakura the Rhyhorn with the ability static, to paralyse her foes on contact. Currently she only has ground type moves which led her to be nearly killed by a Shadow Tag Zapdos.. a Flying Pokémon with an ability that prevents pokemon swapping out! Through the use of struggle she was saved and leveled to level 13.  We have Usagi the (C)Raichu  who is level 14 who can cry tears that causes effects if other Moe’s make physical contact with her. She only carries electric moves. We have got C.C. The Gardevoir who has the Huge Power ability and rolls with moves like Fake-Out, Psychic, Psycho-Boost and Mist Ball. Umara the Slowpoke has Keen Eye with some more basic moves like Water Gun and Bubble.. but she also rocks  Luster Purge and reflects! Murmur the Porygon 2  has the ability poison point and can attack our foes with Vice Grip and Earthquake while she also is the cut user of the team and can prevent swapping Pokémon by the use of mean look! She is level 13.  Our Ace is the Adorable Miku the Jigglypuff who with the Wonder Guard ability can only be hit by super effective moves (and thus fighting moves) She attacks with Crush Claw or Double Slap and can sing Supersonicly to confuse her foes. She also has the move Camouflage which can change her typing to get more mileage out of Wonder Guard …maybe!

Last time we were asked to deliver a letter to Steven Stone.. who hangs out in some strange cave in Dewford town and today’s adventure begins there.. with me strolling along the beach looking for hidden items, finding a Big Pearl AND a Big Mushroom! While it is nice to have some cash money Dewford town doesn’t actually have a Pokémart so for now they are useless.. it also means I can not purchase potions unless I travel back.. but then I would have to travel on the perverts ship again.. and an old man named Briney who has a very loving relation with a Moe Girl called Wingull.. so I decided to enter Granite cave. A hiker gives me the HM for Flash.. but without a HM slave to teach it .. this isn’t going on my main team! Time for our encounter.. with Umaru being on the hotseat of being kicked off the team things are exciting for her! She might become my flash user! That does turn out to be the case when I find out that my encounter is a Corphish (I love that Pokémon). I capture it  and since it is male.. looks like a girl and has twin tails I decide to call it Souji after Souji Mitsuka. Umaru disappears in the PC for now.. but not before finding a second encounter.. Squirtle.. darn that would have been better.

Souji has the moves Rock Tomb and Pain Split for now.. and is level 8 so we will need to grind her up!  Which is a cool way to discover what Pokémon I could have gotten. Umaru is quite happy to be in a PC with a Spearow I named Asuka. They have a little party with cheetos! In the cave I find Paras, Haunter, and Charmander as well as a Doduo.. I decide to forsake switch training and only use Souji to level up on Charmander and the Doduo. Souj almost gets killed by a Muk due to me using the speed up button a bit too much! I need to stop doing that.  Switching into Usagi she kills the Muk and levels up to level 15 while Souji learns Payday at level 10.. Free money for me.. but not a great move. It does allow me to grind on the Squirtle and Luvdisc that I encounter later as well and at level 13.. Souji learns the water move Octazooka! So now  he has a great move!  These Pokemon are hitting me hard though so I decide to grind the entire party out until level 15. The need for this is immediately shown because I STRUGGLE here.. at one  point Murmur gets poisoned with no more potions in my Inventory.. she would be killed for sure.. but apparently I failed to sell Morning sun! In a desperate attempt I teach it to Murmur and pray I encounter something before she dies of poison! It works. I heal her and barely make it to the Pokémon Center… I need to go back to get some potions!

The Search for Steven

I go back to Petalburg and Decide to level my weaker Pokémon in the grass there.. that other cave might just have level 8’s but suddenly Haunters and Dusclops started showing up left and right tearing my team to shreds. I pick up a couple of potions, a set of antidotes and some more Pokéballs… knowing fully well that Mr Briney is chasing the young girl around the table again! I can’t let this last too long! When everyone is level 14 I go back.. and will look for Steven. Things are going south fast.. as I descent further in the cave.. those Dusclops turn into wild Mewtwo encounters… who outspeeds Sakura so she can’t guarantee to run away. A hard fight later.. Sakura learned of the Earthquake.. and is on 2 hp!  I am trapped in darkness.. am I really supposed to take Brawly down first?! Well.. I am lost in the dark now! Might as well try to avoid using Flash whatsoever! Umaru is still having her party after all.. The wild Mewtwo is part of the same route as Souji was.. being in a granite cave.. so I can’t even try to catch it.. unless it is shiny.. but I think shinies aren’t in this romhack! (shiny clause is a special rule that states you can capture shinu pokémon even if the encounter is not eligible to be captured)

The way towards Steven is a gruesome trial , while my Pokémon are powerful.. My team is extremely weak to grass and has no good counters for ghosts yet.. and what do you know this cave is filled with these sorts of Pokémon!  It doesn’t help that I don’t remember this game very well.. but well on my way I at least encounter what Souji is going to evolve into.. for a brief moment I forgot Crawdaunt was dark type and I nearly got CC killed.. but luckily swapping into Miku is always the correct answer! Since I really do want experience on my Pokémon though I can’t constantly lead her. Every floor my HP is chipped of a bit more.. but I finally reach Steven. He gives me the move Uproar for delivering the letter.. which. .isn’t particularly useful to me!  I want to exit the cave with an escape rope I bought but I realise I have not taken enough screenshots in the cave yet.  I miss a few for my posts.. so I need to go back in and hope you don’t notice my Pokémon’s level… or read this line! While I do I encounter a Moltres..  Luckily C.C could one shot it with Psycho Boost. Well.. at least I found Steven.

Little Gym of Horrors

With everyone being at the abysmally low level of 15 .. it is time to face the gym leader. Note that the previous gym leader’s ace was this level as well so I assume that EVERYTHING here  will at least be this level.. if we face  Regi.. we might lose monsters here. Immediately I forget that Brawly’s Gym Puzzle in this game was darkness, I am more used to the “puzzle”  in Oras and I get in a Double Battle Unprepared for what is to come! As Sakura and Usagi come out, the opponent’s send in Swampert and Ampharos.. . This can kill Usagi!  I want to swap her out.. but Swampert has got the move Arena trap.. which basically means that Usagi is dead already! I need a miracle here! Round 1 I let Usagi use Stockpile to up her Defences.. the Ampharos Attacks her but the Swampert uses Water Sport … Bonemarang takes half of Swamperts Health… I am willing to lose Sakura here.. but Usagi is my Baby I need to keep her safe if possible! Round 2.. Usagi Stockpiles again.. the Swampert uses a thunderwave to Paralyse Usagi… thank Arceus! The  Ampharos uses minimize. Sakura finishes Swampert off with a second Bonemerang. With the taste of vomit in my mouth from stress I let Sakura sweep here.. while I swap Usagi out for Miku .. just to be safe because of the minimises.  This isn’t good I am way too attached to Usagi already! Looks like she won’t be the only one crying!

The next fight.. against a gym trainer which I make sure to battle Solo isn’t much easier.. the woman uses a Kyogre for crying out loud.. still leading Sakura I know I have to rely on Usagi to clutch this one! I need her to take a hit from a Legendary… she does so like a champ and did not even cry that much! The Kyogre lives a hit from Usagi though and brings her well into yellow health some tears flow.. but soon the tears are washed away by the blood of the slain enemy Kyogre.. The stress of it all is actually starting to get to me!  This isn’t an easy gym! The enemies are slightly lower level than me.. but these are all such powerhouses! The Third Trainer uses a Seaking.. he stands no chance against my team..but Sakura needs to swap out again!  This time I try to let Souji take advantage of Payday to rake up some extra coins .. I am going to need them! The final fight before the gym leader uses a Puppitar who has a sprite that has way too much work in it for a Puppitar! The Pupitar fight levels up C.C. and she learns Light Screen! I make room for it over Mistball! Praise be to  Baby Mew, I have both the barriers now! This will allow me to live so much more!  I just wish I had them on the same Pokémon!

I take a little breather before the Brawly fight before I move back in. Brawly tells me he would like the be called Bug Catcher Jill. I lead Miku as  I am  too scared to use anything else! His first Pokémon is a Houndour.. okay we can take that! It has the poison point ability and poisons Miku..so I am spending resources to keep her free of that status! Eventually Miku takes down the Houndour and she is up against a Wooper, who tries to put Jigglypuff to sleep.. how ironic. It is level 19 though.. I am 3 levels under!  I might need to grind again already! The last Pokémon is a level 16 Lombre! Since no one is super effective against it I decided to let Miku sweep the gym! What do I get as a reward for being scared to death half of the time?!  The Move .. Defence curl… Wow.. that sucks.. even for early gym standards!

The First Death

Before heading to Slateport I decide everyone needs to level up to level 18. I know the Gym in Mauville is a bit away.. but I am on the level of regular gym trainers right now .. if not a tiny bit over.. My team isn’t balanced enough yet to play around typings smartly and I do have a lot of unevolved Pokémon, only CC and Porygon 2 (in this Generation)  are fully evolved.  Well Usagi as well but she is my darling little baby! I don’t want to risk her! So a few levels on her won’t hurt! During grinding however.. something terrible happens! Sakura gets killed!…By A luvdisc! One of the weakest Pokémon in the game! It does outspeed Rhyhorn so Sakura failed to run from the Water Type which before I have only seen carry Water Pulse.. and my 2x it’s level Rhyhorn could survive one hit of that.. poorly but she could!  I was grinding and most of my other Pokémon were damaged so I felt running was the safer route.. when Luvdisk used Waterspout! A move that deals more damage the more HP you have. Since Luvdisk was at full HP.. Sakura got washed away… I am sorry girl!  You will be missed.. Asuka the Spearow joined the team for now.. which involved an awful lot of grinding! But I figured since I already had a Psychic Type and a Water type.. the Flying type would be better to deal with our weakness to grass.. though with Sakura gone.. the weakness was kind of fading already!

Usagi destroyed the Luvdisc and everyone caught up to the level of the Gym Leader we beat. Asuka learned Milk Drink which is one of the best recovery moves.. but other than that no real moves were learned. Jigglypuff learned Flail Over doubleslap. I told Flail is a bad move but if Miku gets poisoned I can let her take damage until she is really low health and use Flail with a high base power… yet low mortality rate (if I have staked out my opponents move) Wading through the mountain of Luvdisc corpses.. Sakura was buried looking out on the Gym.. she had saved her friend Usagi from the crazy Swampert before! The Gym where she pulled her weight hard but also was in danger a lot.. We all boarded the pevert’s ship again.. not even caring he was lewding his tiny girl again. We all felt empty and not just because we ran out of Power Points.. on the way to Slateport .. Usagi cried for the loss of her friend… and so did her trainer…..

Pinkie Plays: Final Fantasy VI: Return of the Dark Sorcerer (Part 1) Professor Oak is a Bad Guy?!

Greetings my little lights! During Steampunk Month I wrote a love letter to Final Fantasy VI , the best Final Fantasy game ever. As a potential future VTuber (once I find someone that can rig my glorious mothness for me) and already one of the first VBloggers,I feel I need a “thing” in gaming. There aren’t that many moth games to play. But a moth kinda sounds like Mod?! So maybe modded games? I like Retro games more than Skyrim +  so then they are called Romhacks!… Uhm… yeah! Let’s try that out a Final Fantasy VI Romhack!

Kefka is back.. but his hair is GREEEEEEEN! *Kefka Laugh*

Return of the Dark Sorcerer is a Final Fantasy Romhack by Gi Nattak and a team of proficient ROM-hackers. Not a sequel or prequel.. but more so very different take on the orginal.. though it is mentioned that a dark sorcerer has been defeated a thousand years ago. Yet the story seems very similar to the events of the original game… but also very different. It is a chaotic bland of pop culture references ..mostly of JRPG’s!  I normally would tell you about how I am playing this game.. but this game had the options to display an extended intro. I chose to do so!  We immediately see the Romhacker, the spriter and another guy talk to us about making the game and making some Chrono Trigger jokes.. they travelled to the End of time and got themselves locked up.. without an Epoch to get out!  My lips curl into a smile as I see a lot of love going around already… then we start the story.

Biggs and Wedge are sitting in a bar drinking , when they get ordered to report to Kefka, this mad Sorcerer works for Emperor Gestahl. Kefka wants  to test his new asset! A young woman with high magic potential.. a sorceress as they call her. Kefka sealed her will away through the use of a  Slave crown. Biggs and Wedge  rush over to Kefka, playing with some of the experiments.. We see many Espers in tubes, and Wedge gives them some sympathy while Biggs plays around with some strange things. Causing a little event before Kefka shows up.. he complains that his lead Scientist, Professor Oak is late.  There is a resemblance to be seen with the Pokémon Professor but I kind of shrug it off as just a name drop of sorts for now!  Back to Kefka .. he tells he wants the woman to destroy the town of Fraust…. Fraust?! Aren’t you going to Narshe?!

The Camera cuts out and we see Tifa Lockheart is spying on them from the other room! She hides from Biggs and Wedge and then a bit later tries to confront the Purple hair sorcerers in the pink dress, telling her she will get her out of here. Tifa gets overwhelmed by the magic power of the girl though.. who then hops into a mecha created by professor oak. Tifa tries to get out herself.. but she has head trauma. Kefka catches up to her and beats her in a fight.. aas Tifa gets taken away to be executed we see the main character board the Mechitech armor.. we get the opening credits but instead of Terra’s theme (omen version)  we get “The Final Countdown” by Europe. We know this one will be weird.. yet it also all feels.. kind of solid.. It’s a joke.. but it’s not taken lightly!

Familiar Yet Different

When then pick up the gameplay where the normal game would also begin.. do note that we are about 15 minutes in already…maybe 10 but I had a bit of trouble starting the game.  We get the familiar Siege of Narshe… which is now the Siege of Fraust. Upon first glance everything seems familiar but I notice I can already Scan my opponent, I have poison attacks and shield abilities. The Fraust guards are basically the same enemies as in the normal game, their outfit colour is a bit swapped and the action gage moves a tad faster.. kind of as if everyone has Haste on them naturally. It is a change I like.. it makes the combat a bit snappier. Spells have different names though, there isn’t just Fire 1 , Ice 1 and Thunder 1.. no I have named attacks, like Ice Spear, Fireball and Spark as well as Scan and Cure. What I like less is that Biggs is already at yellow health..I picked the easiest difficulty and  I am playing the first enemies.. I should not be struggling yet.. but the fight is a lot closer than I would like.  As we climb the icey slopes towards the cave where the Esper of Fraust should be I suddenly get attacked by an army of Prinnies or an army of Prinny.. not sure what the multiple of that is. It’s the penguins from Disgaea!  They have immunities. Oh no.. it’s gonna be one of those rom-hacks!

I do not mind adding difficulty but with Final Fantasy that usually involves more grinding so I am immediately alert.. will this be insanely difficult? I am not sure yet.. I defeat the army of Prinny and make my way towards the first save point. These devices are a staple in every final fantasy game..for a good while and this one has a manager of kinds. Instead of the game giving me a tutorial it is Mr Meseeks from Rick and Morty. Inside the cave all the enemies have been replaced. Those wrench throwing dudes are now  swarms of eyeballs, and the rat monsters are now.. more normal rats. When we reach the first boss fight I am curious to see if we still get the electric slug.. but no .. we get a fire ant.. which does the exact same thing as the slug did…except a lot harsher!  He is fairly easily conquered though but I do need to cast heal a lot! The strange girl is dedicated to healing. Instead of going into combat with the Esper in it’s frozen form Wedge accidentally thaws it out and we have a big boss fight yet again, this time involving stacks of poison damage that the creature can reflect so barriers have to be put up… it is the same story….but it is also not!

Breaking my Limits

Eventually the Esper breaks free and dissolves Biggs and Wedge in an ocean of light, they tell each other how they feel as if they are burning up from the inside. The Esper frees Not-Terra of her slave crown and after she gets rescued by an old man we discover her name is Aurora.. or anything I want to call her but I think naming Final Fantasy characters is a sin. As I explore caverns with her the difficulty relents a bit, with her magic she can oneshot pretty much everything…provided I don’t hit into an immunity. I look for treasures and discover a buckler..but also realise she has no weapon. Spells are the ONLY thing I can use to defend myself with… I would later discover she can wield swords like Terra can.. BUT she doesn’t have one.. which makes a lot of sense given she had a giant mecha before and then just passed out.

I quickly discover that this is not the only change made. I encounter a few items called Tabs which boost specific stats. Stamina and Might for example. The stats also look a bit more complicated..yet make a lot of sense!  The game so far walks a fine line between offering more clarity and making the game more “intuitive”  but also more complex. What I HATE though is that all items have been renamed. A Phoenix Down is called a Recharger. I even have a Soft.. but it’s not called Soft.. I just read it can undo petrifying effects.  I really dislike this.. I can’t find the correct item.. also why do I have a cure for Toad this early in the game?! Am I seriously going to encounter that already?! I have a few healing items for most status already.  Then I fall through the ground and my character passes out. She has a flashback of sorts.. and Oak is introduced as Samuel Oak.. and he gives the actual Oak speech! Guess my hero is a villian now….Time to be introduced to the one that shall replace Locke… HOLY F it’s Cloud!

Cloud Strife shows up at the old man’s house telling he is a Mercenary and he gets hired to save Aurora.. He asks for a high Gil Reward which he is refused. The rest of his dialogue is just “….” !  They got it right!  Moments later we skip to the moment where Locke would Rescue Terra and fight alongside with the Moogles to fight the army of Narshe.    This time it’s Prinnies that show up.. and according to Cloud, moogles hate Prinnies. Fully expecting Cloud to play like Locke.. I was expecting him to steal for some weird Reason.. but no.. he Actually swipes his Buster Sword around and he plays like Cyan, but instead of Bushido he has his Limit Breaks.. Right now he has unlocked Braver and Climhazzard. He can also insta kill as if he is Odin or something! While “Fighting” plays I move my Moogle Squads into tactical positions to guard Aurora and that’s when I see it!  Cloud is a party…..with Kupac!

It’s Kupac Mofo!

Kupac is a moogle wearing a Purple Bandana and a Smug smile with what seems whiskers.. or some War paint, belonging to the thief Arche-type. There are a few other strange Moogles as well.. such as Stoney the stoner Moogle…. or Mogwai.. who looks like he is a Gremlins reference.  Each Moogle Party has a thief.. one of them being called Mugsy!  Mondo is the cool Moogle wearing sunglasses.. and every single portrait looks unique.. if not a bit trolley!  It gets better when Mog’s ,the main moogle’s, party is engaged . He has two dances!   Cavern Strut which drops a big rock on his foes.. and Air Guitar which summons terrible storms to hit his foes! That is right! Mog is very DPS focussed! Kupac and Cloud make their way to the boss , as Fight On begins playing. Kupac steals an ancient helmet out of the prinny keeper! Cloud turns dogs into several servings of Hotdogs with his Limit ability.. it is so much faster than Cyan’s  gauge.  I really love Kupac.. but as soon as he came.. he went.

Cloud has defeated the boss and Aurora is saved, the Moogles bail. As Cloud takes the girl he tells about a nearby castle.  On their way outside they encounter Neko the cat merchant who sells Aurora a wand.. that has a 3% chance to cast Silence on whomever it hits! Cloud I decide to let keep his Buster’s Sword. I know the castle is close by so I skimp out on potions!  As the unlikely pair of Not-Terra and Cloud flee Fraust we are engaged by some very familiar looking slimes! Cloud kills them.. even if one of them may have been “a good slime” Aurora casts spells like mad since the city is close anyw…..it’s going to be a lot further now isn’t it?

I travel across the , how much larger, desert and fight so many enemies that Aurora completely runs out of spells ..twice. Mostly fighting weird spiders and scorpions that inflict poison damage.  Her second stack of spells is almost entirely spent on keeping Cloud healthy…I do not grind yet, but I do level up a few times to gather spell points as I go along. I wonder how Edgar will play and what he will be. According to Cloud he is a great Alchemist.  Will he play like Celes, absorbing magic in a potion?! Will he actually work like Edgar.. but gadgets being replaced with offensive potions?! Maybe he is like Sabin where the direction combo corresponds with a special potion?!  I sure hope he isn’t like Gau!  In fact I really hope there is no real Gau in this game at all! As I am about to move into the castle I save my game… and we will meet the King in the next episode of this playthrough! I might not play this game all the way through but for now.. I am intrigued enough to keep this going for a bit!

Pinkie Plays: Moemon Emerald Extreme Randomiser Nuzlocke (Part 1) The Amazing Starter

Greetings little lights in my life, my first actual content post as a Virtual Blogger and Kaijuman is of course… a Pokémon post….kind off! I started a Nuzlocke when I was still a mortal, but I played so far ahead of my writing that I kind of forgot what happened! So this time I will write along as I play! …  This time the cute animals will be replaced by cute girls!  As we start our very own Moemon Emerald Extreme Randomizer Nuzlocke.

What is A Nuzlocke!

Here we go again! A nuzlocke is a mode in Pokémon where you can only catch the first Pokémon you encounter each route! A Pokémon that faints in battle is considered dead and you HAVE to give it a nickname so you get more attached to it! In our version we will play a randomised hack of a Pokémon game I own.. but yet it will be played on an Emulator.
All Pokémon have been “randomised” so that means if I would normally find a Pidgey.. I might encounter a Mewtwo now instead. Or vice versa. Items, trainer names , abilities and movesets all have been completely changed..though Pokémon will be biased to learn moves of their respective typing.  There will be a few additional rules such as.. if I encounter a Pokémon I already have, I can catch another and my own special rule.. if I HATCH a duplicate.. that specific Moe gets an extra life.  Since this Rom does not have sprites for all Moe’s if I encounter a regular Pokémon instead of a Moe.. it doesn’t count as an encounter, they can still kill my girls though!

Minor rules include me having protection from wipes by Dragon Rage, before the second gym and a lot of other circumstantial stuff that I will bring up when we get there. The point is , this offers a bit of extra challenge to a Pokémon game. For challenge reasons I can’t grind to be stronger than the Gym Leaders Ace either.. because on emulators I could just speed up and wash everything after grinding… What enforces me to keep these rules in a written report of this?! Nothing! You will just have to trust me! … The trainer will be named Pinkie like always.. and the Nuzlocke ends after completing the Pokémon League, or after a full team if six wipes! No need to defeat Steven End Game… (as it would probably would involve a lot of grinding) with that  It is time to see how our adventure will go!  Professor Birch greets me and shows me that this.. is a Pokémon.

The Start of my Journey…

For some strange reason mom in this game has stuffed me in the back of a moving truck and forced me to travel with the boxes like a piece of trash while she got there in another way! A lot of non Moe looking monsters are busy carrying some boxes but at least she got the tv running! … Great priorities mom!  The Mom in Gold at least helped me with my journey… you give me a room.. then kick me out of the house to go play with that creepy neighbour kid Brendan who  puts his balls beside his bed!  … I touch his balls .. and then he decides to show up! He must have been in the bathroom or something he asks me who I am and then realises I must be Pinkie… I really wonder how long Mom has already been here that she would talk about me already! But sure I say hi to the guy! He did not know I was a girl… Darn those stupid Animaniacs! They made my name Gender-Ambiguous! Brendan says he is going to help his father catch some pokémon before he starts playing on his computer. This is a 10 year old who already has a double bed.. so that can’t be good so I book it out of there!

I walk outside when I hear a middle aged man scream! He is being chased by a Zigzagoon Girl.. he tells me the only way to fight her is grab his balls and pull another girl out of them..So I can pick one.. one girl Onix.. is a solid pick.. but since Onix has lower attack than an Oddish it isn’t amazing. Unown is the second Moe girl and we can clearly skip her.. the Third one… Holy Heck It is Jigglypuff!  Yes She’s my girl!  I choose her and see that instead of Sing and Defence Curl.. I think she actually has a Crush Claw great move that does damage based on HP stat. So It is time to attack the Zigzagoon girl and kill it! It turns out I got super duper LUCKY… not only does my Jigglypuff have one of the strongest normal type moves in the game! She has the strongest ability in the game! Wonder Guard.  Which means she can not be hit by ANYTHING except super effective moves.. and since she is a normal type.. that means she can ONLY be hit by Fighting type moves!  Now this is still a randomiser so several Pokémon can pack fighting type moves.. but for now it is a great start. Since she is basically untouchable and she sings! I decided to call my Moe.. Miku!

Gathering More Moe

Now that i have an absolutely broken Starter .. I have confidence that this run will be truely amazing! With Wonder Guard up I zoom across the map to fight Brendan..  who has a Blissey… it can’t touch me and I level up three times! We go back to our town that is filled with puddles for no real reason other than to show a neat graphics thing and I get Pokéballs. I move back to the route and prepare for my first encounter! It is a Porygon 2! Another Pink Moe AND another normal type! This one carries the move Earthquake and Vicegrip so it is another Power house.. since Miku can’t be touched.. it isn’t that hard to bring this one down to catching range.. It got a bit scary for a bit since it has poison points .. which CAN hurt my little darling.. but I lived and added Porygon 2 to my team. I name it MurMur because she has the number two written on her forehead.. I grind her up to level 5 switch training her with the immortal ghost of Miku and it is time for our second AND third encounters in rapid succession!

I should have played the lottery today because my Route 103 encounter is…. A Slowpoke! Another Pink Moe! I named it Umaru for obvious reasons!  And Decide to level it up to level 5 as well to get ready for my route 102 encounter! I am running low on Pokéballs, and there aren’t that many pink Pokémon left for me to add to my team!  On Route 102 I however encounter.. a Slowbro! Another Pink Moe! But this one counts as a dupes clause. I already have this Pokémon.. at least it’s an evolution line so it means I can skip it!

Since I would prefer to evolve it myself, I decide to let it go and go hunt for another monster. Well or another girl.. so my Harem.. is passing on Slowbro..as I will get her later!  My new first encounter is a Raichu.. which I capture fairly easily. I decided to name it Usagi as it was the only blonde twin tailed girl I could think of that fitted in an 8 letter limit! I discover Umaru has Luster Purge.. which is a legendary move reserved for Latios and Usagi Carries Thunderpunch and Shockwave! Which both are great moves as well! It is time to go visit my dad! While restocking Pokéballs I discover they sell a Moonstone in this Pokémon Center as I randomised items and the first one has ALL the evolutionary items..but I decide that Jigglypuff will never evolve!  Because it will lose its ability! I just hope it will learn some set up moves to power up it’s punches!

Hi Dad! Thanks for letting this weird Astma Kid have a Pokémon instead of me!

Now it is time for some trainers, the first one has a Torchic which Murmur makes mince meat off.. I am not sure if she would like chicken ..or of humans.. but she is dead anyway because remember this is a Nuzlocke.. what faints is dead!  The second trainer has an adorable Shellder which I quickly turn into Shell Dead and things seem to be going smooth! I am also enjoying journalling like this as I play the game so yay for the Virtual Blogger Lifestyle choices working out so far! The bug catcher dude got renamed to manager Scott.. and after the Clam Moe has been defeated … he sounds out a Meganium..which can most definitely one shot Umura and even Usagi the Cryshu.. because Meganium turns out to have Solarbeam! Luckily we can safely swap to Miku the Jigglypuff who is immune thanks to Wonder Guard.. she finishes off the Meganium and I stroll on with my little girls.

In the next battle we get a bit of a magical girl showdown when Usagi faces a Staryu! Usagi has a good cry first but then uses Spark to attack the Staryu turning this magical girl story more in a Madoka scenario!  Victory is obtained once again and we begin to rake in money! Since I fight rarely with high XP giving Pokémon as well, leveling is also going smooth! It is really nice to start a nuzlocke like this normally it is stress and terror and this feels like a leisurely stroll! I encounter a pretty slutty Umbreon and after I scold it for a bit for dress kind of like a hussy .. I decided it is better to put this girl out of her misery! She belonged to a trainer after all! The last one before I move to Petalburg where I encounter my father, who tells me I am not strong enough to face his gym yet… which is true..but I could do it if Jigglypuff had Toxic as a move.. but regardless he chores me with going with Wally to find him a Pokémon .. one forced tutorial later I  am back at my dads and I can move onto the next town and towards the first gym.. trough Petalburg woods.. Wally caught a Barboach by the way!

The Stress begins!

Route 104 lets me pick up a Rhyhorn which I name Sakura. You know the buff chick from Danganronpa they do look a bit alike! I do think I got the short end of the stick on this route a bit.. I do really like Rhydon but there was also an Altaria or Chicorita.. I would have really liked to pick up one of those two! Still Rhyhorn is pretty neat! It’s static ability that allows to paralyse opponents is a bit lackluster on her.. but it’s not bad! I defeat Technician Jo.. who is walking a dress and sunhat.. quite easily but I realise that  Sakura will have trouble hitting bird Pokémon it also is super weak to both grass and water and since I can’t tell which Pokémon has these types of moves.. I don’t think she will last all that long before falling victim to a misplay of mine.. I do need to level her so she is at risk! During the first fight in the Petalburg Woods we encounter a trainer that has an Electrode.. which is ADORABLE! I want one!

Hoping I might encounter it in the Forest I ready myself to capture another adorable girl! The Pokémon I found is Muk however.. which is a Pokémon I do enjoy but I also know it has a bit of a trickier catch rate. This one is not easily caught in A pokéball! Indeed the Muk refuses to go along and thus we fail our Petalburg Woods encounter and now I have to traverse these dangerous woods with one team member less than I could have had.. which makes catching the next encounter harder as well.. at the rate my Pokémon grow.. they might be a bit overleveled when we come out the forest. Distributing levels seems key here so everyone.. except for Jigglypuff is at risk! I decided to lead Umaru the Slowpoke because it feels lucky! I guess my amazing trainer instincts were right as the first team Aqua encounter has a Diglett! It is level 9 though! I am already underleveled here! I expected it to happen before the first gym but this is really fast! The grunt gets defeated without any casualties though but now I have to lead Sakura! I forgot to do this and Umaru immediately gets poisoned! I forgot poison kills are still in this Generation… Oh oh.. now I have to rush back.. wasting two of my five extremely scarce potions I get Umaru to the hospital safely! I need to buy some antidotes here! Back in the woods I immediately encounter a poisonous Pidgeot.. which poisons Sakura.. to early in the woods to use my item I need to head back again! Wasting two more Potions! Only one left.. and no more money!

Luckily my next forest trip goes without much trouble! A Rich boy challenges me with a Psyduck.. So confidently I swap in Usagi the Raichu.. who gets hyper-beamed in the face.. she survives but she looks pretty battle damaged! She cries of course! I still have a few trainer fights to go and only one potion that now I have to use on Usagi! Things turned around fast for me here! It only gets worse when my first double battle.. which are the scariest things in such a Randomiser sends in a Mewtwo… these are two four year old girls.. how did they get that! Luckily.. he just meditated!  I swapped in Miku to be safe and she levels to 11.. with the rest of the party being at around level 9 or 10 ! We are almost there.. almost to the first gym city Rustboro! Just one more trainer to go! It is a fisherman sprite he claims to be a Water Pokémon trainer but leads with Torkoal.. out of sheer instinct I put Usagi first and she does manage to oneshot the turtle girl..  his other two Pokémon Starmie and Slowking are indeed Water Pokémon so Usagi punished them in the name of me!  Without casualties we have reached the first city.. where a lot of crime and the first gym awaits! But that is a story for next time!

With that I conclude my first let’s play blog! It was great fun to actually write as I play so I will do this with a few other games as well in the near future! I got plenty of things I want to try and expect this series to show up fairly regularly so it will be easy to follow! A Bitter Girl in a Pokémon Candyland: Pokémon Sweet 2th Review

Hello Island Guests, as you know I search the lands far and wide to play interesting Pokémon Rom Hacks and fan games. One of my all time favourites was Pokémon Sweet Edition, a game where Pokémon turn in all sorts of pastries and sweets and their typings get replaced by flavours.  It was adorable. The only thing that was annoying was that it was set in canydised Kanto.. we have seen that region so much before! So when the sequel offered us Mega Sweets and a region they built from the scraps of Kanto.. I could not wait. However lighting never strikes twice apparently.

Lemony Road

Pokémon Sweet version did not offer a wide variety of candies, by my guess there would be like 90 or so?! I am not fully sure! This game was marketed as more candies, more variations, bigger regions and a story about mega evolutions. Or Mega Sweets..  I may use original terminology here to make this all a bit more understandable. Immediately the game starts with a bit of a set back. You see this game offers you the exact same starters as the first game. Browniesaur, Strawmander and Squirpie! While cute and actually pretty balanced Pokésweets there is a problem. The prequel already allowed  me to obtain all three and I ran most of them.. so I did not feel that compelled to use them. So I started with Squirpie the candy that I did not get to use enough the last time. An apple flavoured candy. After picking a starter something interesting happens though.. a choice that seems so smart but makes this game even more of a hassle.

Depending on what starter you pick you are locked in a certain route! You see in this game Pokésweets (the name for candy pokemon) have an ability to use a HM-move by instinct. Or they may not there is no real way to tell as far as I am aware. Browniesaur can cut trees, Squirpie can surf on the cream and Strawmander can roll around rocks. This is not explained very well so if you follow your trainer instinct you end up being stuck straight away. Each route leads to a Battle Bakery, which are basically gyms! Here you fight the head baker for a medal. If you have 8 medals you can participate in the pokéweets league. So far so good! Well.. the issue is the open ended route of this game. We can land at three separate gyms at first.  Either one you can challenge first depending on your starter.  While this sounds great it brings issues. Once you past the first one, the next two are no challenge at all and after them there is a lot of grinding to do because the game has to guide you to gym A B and C before moving on to D & E.. so while Pokémon felt super linear this feels like you are backtracking a lot! There are alternative ways to get somewhere but you need the pokésweets of routes anyway so instead of walking in a line we now zigzag our way through.

I do like the concept of a more open ended pokémon world but  you really need  a sliding leveling scale for that to work. Now some parts are super easy and starting on a next tier is super hard. The way the world map is designed is UGLY as well. It kinda feels like a kid has drawn a map with just some random aspects scattered anywhere. In Kanto , even in Pokémon’s sweet version everything felt unique. It had a reason to be there! There was a harbour town, there was a mining town, there was a town by ocean and a village of the dead.  Here most towns are copies of another with one having slightly more milk ponds or having the Pokésweet Center and the shop swapped around.  In the end I could not find the final badge I was missing because I felt .. I had been to that down before.. because it looked that much like another town. No village has a purpose.. it’s just a few houses.. in one house you get a move to teach your pokémon , in one house you get maybe some potions or have to trade some soda and in others there isn’t anything. The battle bakery sprites look really ugly in the world and lots of buildings have no doors. It just feels so sloppy. Put an asset on the world just so you can have an asset.

Since you need particular Pokésweets through travel through certain areas it quickly becomes tedious! I for the life of me could not found a Sweet that learned Rock Smash and if I gave up on a Pokésweet for not liking it’s design I often had to get it back still, because it was the only one who could roll away a boulder or cut a tree. It isn’t all bad though There are a few cool areas such as the halloween fields or the inverse world, where typings are different.. but those are few and far between. Weirdly I’d rather be playing Kanto yet again.. so unfortunately the world left a sour taste in my mouth. And it’s super pink! I loved it the last time around so why do I think it’s so ugly now?! Well because there went no love or thought into this.

A mixed Bag

Luckily there are the cute Pokésweets right?  Yes you are half right! Pokésweets are still very cute! For the most part! I got a really quite Chefchop which was a machop in a chef outfit with pink hands. I also got a muffloom which is a Muffin Gloom.. I could not evolve it though no matter how hard I tried.. some Pokésweets are a bit bugged. They might not actually evolve! So heck! I was stuck! Also for some weird reason. my Muffin Gloom could fly?! I am not complaining..but it’s pretty weird since I also had a banana bird who could not fly! These bugs were present in the original though and they come with the territory of Rom Hacks.. it’s a shame but you learn to deal with and move on. There are a lot more sweets this time around and there are some very very nice designed ones. Like Noibats sweet version. Who looks very pink and tasty. It has a bit of a donut-like quality. I also really liked oddish and Muffloom as I said before and here and there there are a few great new clever Pokésweets. So there is a charm to this! ..And then there are the “new” new ones.

In this game it is clear that you can tell who knew anything about pixel art and sprite design ..also who was invested in Pokésweet design and who is not. All those Pokésweets from last time look amazing and there are a handful of hits here as well.. There are also Pokémon that are just sprite swaps. Give Pignite a wine colour and it’s a grape flavoured Pokésweet. Same goes for Torchic and for about 60% of the new roster.  Pokemon either have one random element added to it.. like Treecko having a little mint leaf hat that clearly looks added.  It gets even worse that some sprites even get cut off. Like if Pignite fully evolves you get an Emboar that has no arms or leg as the sprite is cut off.  Same goes for Blaziken! The first game showed so much love, and this feels like a rushed project where most people don’t even seem to care. I wish I could go softer on it..because there ARE people who care in that team.. but there are also a lot of people who very clearly don’t and it’s just sooo noticeable.

Now I could forgive bad sprites if the other flavouring was intact. It was super cute to see Pokémon use flavoured type moves like . Apple Claw, Zester or  Karate Choc! I used about 10 pokésweets during my journey and I have only gotten about 9 moves with candy-themed names. Four of them are on my Starter.  Which means 29 moves were just their literal game translation. A few Pokésweets never EVER learned a name based on sweets including Blaziken..whose sprite gets cut off. So now I have a yank Blaziken sprite.. with the same moves as a normal.. also Blaze Kick is a Strawberry movie while Ember counts as a lemon type move or something?  This may not be an actual example but it does happen that some moves just have been retyped randomly. This also leads to broken Pokesweets. For example Wineboar.. never learned any grape type moves. He learns a lot of lime ones.. but he doesn’t get the same type attack boosts thus suffers. You can feel that this group who designed the game lacked synergy. It feels fundamentally broken and given how great the first game is I can not forgive them for giving us THIS as a sequel.

No more Bug Types.. But there Sure are Bugs.

Still I would be willing to forgive them, it’s a fan game. Not everyone can design a great world, not every pokésweet you design can be a hit. Yet there is so much wrong with this game that in fact you almost nearly did not get a review!  It happened when I found a rare move I could move by pushing a Boulder, luckily I had a Sweet who could do that.  I got stuck! I saved my game and I got stuck!  Saving booted me to a menu and it resetted the rock position leaving me in a box from which there was no escape. By then I was, including grinding,  about four hours in the game and I had to restart my entire game. Luckily I had save stated before (I do not know how pokémon evolve so I do save states to quickly experiment)  Had I not.. all game progress would have ended as I would have locked myself in a game over type situation! Surely this counts a game breaking error. You can get trapped. Then there are pokésweets that should not evolve even if they should. Making your grinding them up a waste.   There are a few visual glitches and  the entire map has so little design in it that there are invisible walls everywhere! You can almost at EVERY  spot travel to the boundaries of the world and just bump the invisible wall. Pokémon at least brings some confines by placing mountain ranges in between.. or peer buoys or whatever. Here this is just part of the map map you can’t walk onto. Or even a pixelated mess of assets to form a barrier.

Mega evolutions are a cool new addition but I have not seen a single mega evolution work. Except for my Back Sprite, if someone uses a MEga evolution but me I see they activated it but the sprite does not activate.. it only activates if the pokémon is switched out, then the next pokémon that swaps in will show up as the actual mega sprite. So as cool as Mega evolutions are.. they are not in this game for you to see. Also it’s a wild guess who evolves! Besides from my starter I was unable to find any! Apparently Arbok mega evolves..into a blue form.. but I barely saw it..because I oneshot that Rattitart that it actually was. I got to see a few sprites during the final fight against my rival which I named Mailman! He used six Mega evolutions sweets but those are the only six sprites I saw. To fight him however you have to find all 12 mega sweets which are named after their flavour not the pokésweet that can evolve with it.  These can be given by any random people on the map or trough story. Which seems like a cool concept.. however the world is open now. Which means each town you can reach in three or four ways. So you have to interact with every single npc, on every single route and there is no clear indicator of items you have and dont have. If a mega sweet happens to be in your pc.. and you forget.. there is no way the game shows you have it.  You can be lost forever.

Pokéballs don’t break this time around, they are reasonable.. but if you try to switch bals you lose a pokeball of any type you used during that catch. While it has a major glitch this system is actually quite great! Just buy once and you only lose a ball upon a succesful catch! This makes the catching aspect really appealing and since this is a game where you really want to collect good on them! I managed to catch three boxes full of pokesweets in my journey and still I missed a lot of those that I already catched in the prequel. It also makes it pretty useless to buy any other pokéball than a sweet ball/pokeball.  Yet in later towns you can only buy the more expensive ones… so you have to backtrack. This game has so many great ideas but it’s just that everything and I mean everything ends up in a broken mess.

Artificial Sweetner

The story last time was kinda clever, featuring the evil team trying to steal all the rare candies to create the ultimate army. That is a great story! Dark Chocobun trying to betray humanity and you having to try and stop her felt pretty satisfactory. This time your rival is just a capital D who wants to rule the world. He fled into another world where all typings are inverted, which again would be clever..but the movesets are so random that it barely leaves an impact. The Chocolate bunnies who are deities of the candy world help you stop the guy ..and then there is a Pokésweet league that is not even part of the plot. All dialogue felt super lazy and while I actually cared and was invested in the plot of Sweet Version, Sweet 2th did nothing for me.  It’s just an evil guy! No twists, no development.. nothing! How? Clearly you had a great writer on board last time what happened here?! The last one was good?! It was really good.

Never ever have I seen such a drop in quality between the first and the second part. The first game I love to bits and if you want to play a Pokémon game filled with the delicious looking monsters that is the way to go! This one feels like it’s deformed , barely viable brother. I am sure it’s parents will love it..but that is about the extent the love goes. The map is horrible, un-inspired and very frustrating to traverse. It basically requires you to carry specific pokésweets all the time.. or at least typing wise. You can get trapped in several spots due to how bad the world is made.  Save a lot.. and use save states to avoid this.  While the original candy monsters are all sweet and adorable the majority of the new ones is either lazy or broken, their movesets have not been adjusted to fit their new flavouring what so ever. If you want a fun team you have to play the game “what do I think is the developers favourites , because not every pokésweet gets the same love.. With some bad luck like me you can have a team without any of the unique flavour but with all the broken stuff. Every cool system this game has comes with a huge downside due to not being balanced, as a result it is a glitchy mess that is playable and finishable but not enjoyable. The lackluster story finishes it off perfectly.

This game could have been passable if not for it’s sublime predecessor. It shows just how incapable this game is. This game has been done better, more balanced, more functional, more flavorful and a LOT sweeter.  Unless you want to really play Pokémon on a map that feels like a 10 year olds custom age of empire map or Tony Hawk Pro Skater custom course, I am gonna have to see I can’t find ANY reason for this game to exist. It does not expand the story of the first game, the new sweets are neglectable Therefore this is the first pokémon fan  game.. and perhaps even a pokémon game that gets my lowest rating. Guys I loved your first game to bits… but this feels like the Beta test of Pokémon Sweet that did not work out. Clever ideas.. is all it has..and a cute Noibat!   The first one is briljant still … this is it’s broken little brother! Pass on this one guys! It’s a waste of your time.. and teeth.

If you like me to play better games please consider supporting my Kofi so I can buy some decent ones! Or feel free to suggest a fun pokémon fan game/rom hack in the comments if you do not have any money to burn! I hope you all will check out the prequel! Despite everything I all wish you a sweet day!
