Once More With Feeling: The Super Happy Love Award 2

Now to close of Tag Week I decided to launch a second round of my very own blog tag. The Super Happy Love Award.  It felt like a nice and fitting way to end this as well as sending out some positive vibes in these weird times! So here we go! It is time for  my for my final tag! (For Now)

Like before I shall answer all six prompts so I better get started!

A Person I love!

In the first version of this I talked about my best friend Bean. She is really awesome. I do not have a significant other to talk about. This week I would like to talk about someone I shall nickname Mac. Mac is a person I have never met in real life but a person I can really synergise with. He is a player in my online D&D games I hold on mondays .. Bean is in there as well. He plays a chicken Bard with a popular twitch channel. Mac to me is a person that showed me different things can mean different things to others. While for me hosting a D&D weekly and talking to him felt very natural it made him very happy. It gave him a creative outlet. Mac played the adoptive daughter  character of my Star Wars Sith. Very unladylike and hilariously awkward, we (almost) always saw eye to eye when it comes down to roleplay and expressing yourself.

However what to me felt natural and like being a good friend clearly meant more to him as one day.. he gifted me a Switch. In our talks I mentioned how awesome the machine looked and how I would get one if I could ever free the money for it. J ran into a streak of bad luck and actually missed a Pokemon game! Mac was off so well he could give it to me without having any problem and missing that money  meant little to him. Bean helped him get that gift to me and now we talk about my switch adventures and I show him how happy he made me that day and we still continue to rp together. I got this incredible gift for just being me.. and while it did not feel deserved.. I am so grateful to Mac and all he has done for me! It might be weird that I got so happy from something so material but sometimes a game can bring true happiness. He helped me achieve that in recent times.. now again with the new Animal Crossing game being out.. so I love him for all that he did for me and the amazing person that he is that never is afraid to be himself. Except for when he identifies as a dog! He does that a lot!

A Franchise or Fandom I love

Last time I already talked about the Pokémon Franchise, another fandom I truly adore is that of Dragon Ball. Train Tickets and meals needed included to see it, I pay 50 euros to go see the Broly Movie in original Japanese in 4d and it was great!  I played just about every Dragon Ball game I could ever lay my hands on, including the bad ones. I adore the Masoko X What If stories he tells on his channel. MasokoX is the one who voiced Goku for Dragon Ball Abridged. His knowledge on the subject is amazing. His stories are so vibrant and he is one of my big examples as a storyteller.  This franchise is so much more than just shouting people.

Like I mentioned in an earlier tagpost this week, Dragon Ball is what helped me get into anime. Stuff like Naruto, Bleach , Sailor Moon and Pokémon did that too but Dragon Ball introduced me to so many anime concepts and the rule of cool thing! Villains are so well known we as people gave them more meaning. This is a franchise we take beyond its own confines all the times. Dragon Ball AF,  Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Dragon Ball Fusions and all those amazing fan stories. Some got acknowledged some received winks. It is a franchise that does listen to it’s fans and thus became bigger than just a show we follow. A fusion between fan contributions and ongoing great stories from Toyotaro and Toriyama have caused a us to be Fangaka! A fusion that is greater than the sum of its parts! And I love every shred of content from it.

A character that I love

Last time I talked about Uni Kitty here.  A character that is very much like me! Today I will use this space to talk about one of my OC’s. Ellestraa initially got created as a young Draenei with big dreams and even bigger misfortune. When the latest expansion thoroughly destroyed my roleplay community I took Elle as she was nicknamed a step further and made her into a full fledged tiefling in DnD.. which is basically the same thing aside from some weird tendrils. What makes Elle so special to me? She is the deeply flawed hero.

Elle is heavily on the autistic spectrum of perceiving the world, due to her extreme bad she was kept inside, locked in a room with only books. People would get hurt around her.  Her bad luck was a curse placed on her by her brother who never wanted to share the family… aided by actual bad luck! She was born on friday the 13tth of the fourth month during a thunderstorm.. that shook the house so hard all mirrors broke.The fact that she was cursed again.. was just bad luck.Her parents also blanked out any form of innuendo out of Elle’s books. So she knows nothing about the more carnal aspects of romance. I have so much fun playing into her character traits as it is traits I have but amplified to the max. She is so different from your everyday hero and her way to view things from a purely analytical point of view.. but one that doesn’t borrow from other people’s view.. something that is directly perceived and experienced. Like a genius child..gosh I love playing her!

A Piece of Music I love

Chromesthesia is an important way in which I select  my music. This is where sound is related to colour. I like brown music .. like Jazz and other “lazy” brass like music but where my heart truly lies is pink music. Surprise! When it comes to Pink music , you can’t get much pinker than Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. Ponponpon was the hot song at the first con I visited and later Candy gave me an important memory as well.  My favorite song of her however is HARAJUKU IYAHOI.

I mean for those who read this in WordPress Reader.. please visit my real site so you can watch the youtube link that I am providing.. because if you do not know this song, you have to see the video! I love it so much! This song is also about a love of oneself and one’s heritage or so I have been told. Loving the person you are and what you do. I honestly wouldn’t know because I do not speak japanese. Still the super catchy melody and the atmosphere of fun that is in this song really gel with me! I hated dancing and when I hear this I just want to dance along and be silly!. If this song is what I think it is about it is a great contestant for this list.. and otherwise I just love it so much that it is still a great contestant for this list.

A Piece of Media or Fanart that I love

Last time I talked about the original smash brother game here. Telling a story about my childhood. So this time I wanted to choose something that was important to me in my adulthood. The thing I chose was a character this time. A Gijinka character credited by an artist named Fluorocarbon. This art is truly amazing. Sylveon is my favorite pokémon followed by Alcremie and Galarian Rapidash…though it would have been so much better with wings as a fairy flying type. Sylveon is great and this Gijinka, which is a humanification of the majestic little monster  I might even love more.

I encountered it first when I had a D&D online which was heavily based on pokémon, story arcs country design and other things were all elements in a classical d&d adventure. Seven angelic sisters of various disciples of magic lost their 8th sister and the party had to find her. Each of them a Eeveelution… the missing one Sylveon. Who they could find in an amusement park in the city of Erykah.. which was known for its magical themepark/gamebling/shopping place. This city was known to be protected by these angels.. an all female group.. but due to them losing their sister.. the one who kept the group together.. this protection began to fail.

I later used the character as my avatar for several online rp adventures dying her hair into a brownish blond..similar to mine.. and editing down the ribbons a bit for practicality.  To this day, I look for ways to emulate it. The light in those eyes, the elegant robes the amazing hair. I want to be her! And so this is one of my dream cosplays! Plenty of reasons why this character should be on the list.

Something love about myself!

Last time I talked about how I see the world differently and how I talk to plushies because maybe they have feelings.I talked about positivity This time I talk about empathy. I can read people very well, which is weird for this socially awkward person like me.. I can tell my friends are dating even if they tried to hide it from me.. in seeing the way they hug change. I can tell a friend is sad based on how he chooses his words and I can sense my sister is stressed based on how she sits in a chair. Now this talent is something I of course use to help my friends.. but I am also not  shy from using it in my favor. Pinkie is good at poker or games against her friends.

People also often come to me for advice, people are easy to entrust me with their feelings, even if I don’t know them very well, people know I listen to them and I made plenty of friends by coaching a few troubled individuals.. mostly online but some in real life as well.  The empathy also applies to online. Based on word choice I can still get a pretty solid read, if I know you a bit. I am beginning to see some patterns already on WordPress and beginning to get some contact with members! So who knows! If you ever feel like you have something you need to get of your chest know that I love that I am a pretty emphatic person! Maybe we can chat!

Be Loved or Bee Love?! Pinkie chooses the latter! Bee Love Award!

In the penultimate post of tag week I got nominated for an award I never had heard about. It is called the Bee Love award and I love the name. However this tag can be done by simply posting the logo and doing some nominations. It’s not even a specified number!. Number 5: The Good Bee

Now I bet all of you would have expected me to pick a lot of special bees. Like Maya the Bee from one of her video games? Or like Bee video game bosses. While not untrue in case of the latter sometimes a bee is just a bee.  Bee Mario is also not on here.. because.. he isn’t really a bee! The good bee however is! And he sparkles! Not only was a link to the past one of the first games where i could catch a creature in a small container and allow it to fight for me… .I LOVE CATCHING CREATURES IN A SMALL CONTAINER AND MAKING IT BATTLE FOR ME SO MUUUCH!..

It was also sparkly. While the good bee doesn’t have to much of an impact on the main game, when playing a randomiser encountering this little bug is always exciting because we get another free item! Having a buddy to battle with you isnt half bad either! Except when you release it when trying to sell it.. and it goes off to attack that stupid weathervane! That’s a BAD Bee! …Which also is a thing.

Number 4: Not even in the manual Bee
(Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde-NES)


Now this game is absolutely horrible, for those who have never seen the Angry Video Game Nerd, this game is the unholy grail. It might not be the worst game in existence…but it’s pretty close. I host bad video game nights for my friends every now and again and whenever some rolls to play Jekyll and Hyde.. it’s always fun….for the ones not playing. For the majority of the game you try to play as Jekyll.. mostly because if Mr Hyde goes further than him you die. Jekyll has a walking speed that is slower than that boat Guts and his party got on in the Berserk manga. He has to take a quick stroll to the church but he mozies around so slowly that the One Piece Manga can start AND finish by the time he has walked down the street. Horrible!  All you can do is prod your cain at people…who all try to kill you for some reason. It doesn’t do anything! Hitboxes are completely unfair and don’t even get me started about the bombs.

Amidst a slew of named enemies in the game, the appearance of the bee is not even alluded to in the manual. The cat and the dog are in there.. but the poor bee gets the short end of the stick.. and that can be taken quite literally. You see the Bee is the ONLY Enemy that Jekyll can kill. It has this dubious honor of being the only fair enemy in the game. Mr Hyde has a few but if you have to much fun with those.. you die! So the bee is the only fun thing in this game and that makes it a great bee for this list.

Number 3: King Bee
(Conker’s Bad Fur Day Nintendo 65 and Xbox)

Bees are usually video game enemies, regular bees as the two above or these super cutesie adorable heroes that everyone loves. Pinobee was one of these platform heroes that cutified the bees. Charmy Bee from the Sonic Squad was another of those.. but to me bees aren’t cute. They are quite scary beings that haunt me and while not as mean as wasps nor as scary.. their video depictions oftenly being more wasplike give me the heebie jeebies. So there are no nice bees on this list. King Bee from Bad Fur day definitely is the nicest of the lot. 

King Bee is a washed up hungover looking bee, who had a rough night and the next day he just wants to pollinate something with big boobs! Not even kidding.. that is what you as an equally hungover squirrel have to help the man with. However the big breasted sunflower is kind of shy and covers her chest. So you have to gather plenty of small bees to tickle her armpits so she throws them up in laughter. When you tickle her enough her boobs show and the king is finally energised enough to do his job… that is a whole lote of bee and a whole lot of love! Perfect for on this list.

Number 2: Capital B
(Yooka Laylee series) 

Now it is finally time for a major character on this list. Somehow I like me bees lower profile. But this video game villain is  quite a good bee. He looks scary and the idea they made to make him into a corporate gold loving maniac worked like a charm. In both Yooka Laylee and the sequel the impossible lair this villain plays a major role, without really popping out. Unlike Bowser or Dr Eggman he feels much more like a behind the scenes guy. While Bowser later got his Koopa kids to control, the way how Capital rules his company and twarts the heroes kind of feels spot on.  We don’t find him 5 times before the final encounter. 


His looks are crazy and remind me of the Joker. The world seems to be catered around him in both games..which makes sense for such a megalomaniac. He is one of those classical style villains done right.. we miss these types of villains these days. Even Bowser and Eggman are deeper now and not always evil for evil sake.  This guy is just a meanie bo beanie for the sake of money and being evil! He wants to rewrite reality and enslave all bees into a hivemind. Not only is he Capital B.. he is a Major D and a Giant A hole as well!

Number 1:  Zinger
(Donkey Kong Country series)


The bee I most remember from video games is definitely the Zinger from Donkey Kong Country though.  Man did those things look scary when I was a kid. Being terrified of wasps this hybrid design between bee and wasp made them look as deadly creatures.. and so they where.  The easiest one to kill can only be killed by a barrel or by the animal companions. Some other bees are completely and utterly indestructible. Hitboxes of certain death! Many vine swinging stages had these set up as hazards and many many times did they cost me a precious life.

What made them stand out the most to me was their sound effect. This weird melodial buzz that audibly changes when they change height was very unsettling to me. Not completely buzz like but close enough to unsettle you. Each buzz lasting indefinitely until it reaches it peak height or death to repeat the cycle gave it also some sort of timerish feeling like a ticking bomb.  These creatures actually gave me nightmares and yet when they got replaced by the buzzers, the buzz saw green bees in Donkey Kong Country 3.. I missed them! Zingers became iconic to me, more so than Goomba’s , whatever sonic has or Kremlin’s from the same game. While later that faded down a bit.. I tried to make drawings of these monsters way before I realised I could not draw!  When you say bees in video games.. I say Zinger.

Why do people keep thinking I am mysterious? Perhaps they like those random stories I tell.. perhaps they still need to figure out how someone can be so pink! Three random things about me

I was abandoned in a forest.

During a children’s birthday party of  my across the street neighbours son of my age we went out to the local forest to play games. His cousin  and the girl living next door to him ..also our age was sick and could not come. Other than us there were mostly boys most of them I knew through the absent girl.  So I wasn’t feeling that included…At one point we decided to play hide and seek and I found a great hiding spot .. no one would find me there! Unfortunately no one was even looking for me…

It had been quite for a while when I got impatient and I found the group to be completely gone. It was a prank the boys pulled on me. I was like 7 maybe even just 6 so mobile phones weren’t a thing yet. The boys dad noticed all his friends were there and  and in the moment forgot about me. He only realised on his way home. He went back to the forest to find me but I wasn’t there anymore. Luckily this happend during a school holiday and knew Dad’s company was close to the forest. Keeping hidden in the forest line.. from bad people.. I walked across the edge of the forest way up to where my father worked. There I walked in an began crying like crazy. Weirdly not before!

I see dead people

Yes , I might just be crazy but I had a few experiences with the “macabre” that have been unexplainable. How did it happen?! Well it all started in my last serious relationship. A bit before Christmas 2012.  I recently passed out according to my ex and they called an ambulance. Other than that things were moving fine. We were moving in together in a new home near a graveyard. My ex told me they could sometimes see people and described a few. I never took it serious. Than one weekend while I was home alone I saw a man standing in my bathroom..vividly. A man with ginger hair and a beard, but a very weak jaw and some kind of work sweater.. like an old fashioned postal office worker.  (Like at least 10 years ago) I blinked and he was gone.

I did not think much of it .. probably got spooked by the dog walking around. However about a month later our front door got blocked some snow that fell of the roof,so we had to leave trough our little back exit onto the graveyard.  Due to ice patches I took a route I never took before going all the way around. There I encountered a grave ..that i never saw before featuring a picture of that same man I saw in the bathroom. After some investigation I got to hear that he used to be a postal worker that got in a fatal accident one of of the more dangerous corners in town.  Since having that experience I had other encounters. I’ve saw a woman about my age named Melanie in a AiRbnB we stayed in. I asked the owner upon checking out if they knew someone named like that.. it got awkward.

Now I do not use this thing neither do I play with an Ouija-Board or anything. On occasion I sense an energy , in rare I see a person and even more rarely I can hear them as well. Perhaps I absorbed the information somewhere subconsciously, perhaps there is actually stuff out there. No matter if they are real or not I did see dead people!

I am going to play a lot of Animal Crossing New Horizon

I always wanted to play this series but never really was able to! I either lacked the cash at the time or it was really hard to buy in my local stores. Okay I loaned the game briefly of a friend to confirm this is indeed a game for me but after checking out that it is indeed cute and fun and super creative.  I gave my friend the game back and thanked her for allowing me to check it out and went on to buy New Leaf.. which of course was sold out. I tried a few more stores but it just did not get sold in a lot of places.. and other were going bankrupt. So I missed my copy..later I tried to loan it again from my friend asking If I could start my own game.. but she had sold it.. since I gave it back to her so quickly she thought I disliked it too or I would have given it for free.

New Horizons will be the first time I can commit to this game with a fully functional console and me having plenty of time to sink into it. I am not sure yet if I want to play on the Southern of Northern Hemisphere.. but I am sure as heck that that new bear is gonna be on this Island of mine! You can be sure to read about my island adventures on my blog as well. Which makes for a nice bridge to the questions!

Fred’s Questions

What do you blog about besides anime? 

Well …. uhm.. I basically marked that as categories. For those who read my posts from outside the WordPress Reader. I tend to focus on games, movies, anime, pokemon and myself or my thoughts.  Apparently I now also about what I blog about. Love and positivity are themes I try to adhere too! So there is that.

Did he gather the infinity stones?

What Anime did you drop and then reluctantly pick up only to decide later that it was good?

I dropped Code Geass once after the third episode. After picking it back up again and getting halfway through the second season I still concluded it was not for me. I tried to pick up Lucky Star a few times but I just could not get into it. There are only two anime ever which I would say could apply. Elfen Lied I dropped after the second episode and upon revisiting it I had a fairly good time. It’s a good show, though nowadays it doesn’t really impress me as much anymore. The first time around I did not know what to do with the dramatic tonal shift between the first two episodes yet as I learned more about anime I got to appreciate that.

The only anime that I ever have absolutely loved after initially dropping it was Steins Gate. Those first few episodes aren’t all that good on themselves and only get a pay off in later episodes. My friends swore it would get good.. but they said the same thing about Geass. and I do not like it. Yet with this one I fell in love.  I cherished this show when things finally began to unfold properly and now this one remains in my top 10 favorites.

I did not want to close my eyes watching this show the second time around?!

What Anime had the wrong protagonist?

There are a fair few. I tend to care more about secondary characters in general. Vegeta, Gohan and Piccolo are all much better characters than Goku or at least  characters I route for more! I’d rather see Sword Art online be completely about Asuna rather than Kirito..a character whom I truly dislike. Bleach could have worked just as well if not better with Toshiro as a main character. Joey Wheeler having to learn the game from scratch could have been more interesting to follow as Yu-gi Muto. Main anime characters can get a bit of a flat development arc especially when they need to get, or are , powerfull.  So secondary characters that need to work harder get a better character arc. Joey Wheeler grew more as Yugi in terms of understanding the game and figuring out his role in everything. Vegeta grew into a loving father who had settled down who came to accept his limitations and move on, there was more to live for than just being strong.

Is there an anime that would actively get better by choosing a different main character… While not a bad anime I feel Mirai Nikki would have greatly benefited from having a less whiny protagonist as Yuki. Without spoiling to much I think following Yuno from her perspective.. in a similar way to School Live..again no spoilers if you don’t know.. would have created a much more compelling narrative. At first we just see a girl with a massive crush but slowly we take a peek under the hood.  The big reveal of this show felt “shoehorned in , with only the benefit of more Murmur” The twist ending could have felt less abrupt and been teased through some disjointed memories or some weird ponderings. It would also give Yuki a chance to be cooler than he actually was as we could look at him through Yuno’s eyes.
It would give this series a sense of dementia and insanity. If done well it could truely have made this a legendary show!…Very good still but to me it’s weakest point was easily Yuki.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Honestly I might be dead by then?! Even when not considering my current situation I have a weak heart so who knows?! strive to be the person I become not the person I want to be.
Let me explain what I mean, little Pinkie wanted to take over her dads company and be a graphic designer. Had I actively chosen to pursue that as a study I would …probably still be where I am know..but also out of luck. The businesses went Bankrupt. Wiser Pinkie wanted to be a lawyer but my more emotional side noticed I lacked the distance I needed to have to do this job well.  My heart became weaker and I had a mental breakdown over my own limitations compared to what is asked of “normal” people and how I was perceived and as a result I can’t work currently/ Had I plotted my course to strictly that would have felt as a failure.

Life’s too short to only stroll down a single path. Sure if we walk straight we are more effective and accepted by society which is also important to most. That’s what I tried to do with my life, before it all stopped including my heart. When I came back, I felt depressed and broken. You know that they say your life flashes before your eyes before you die?! It was kinda true?! When I woke up I felt overwhelmed with fear. What I saw wasn’t really my choices. What i had done before was still to be normal, to stick to society and while that is fine, it made me feel that I had never lived. Never lived for myself at least. So now I live without a plan. Pinkie does what Pinkie feels like and we will see where it gets me.

Looking into the future is like the yellow brick road! Sure if I follow it I can get to Oz that everone seems to love so..but if I wonder around I might find something no one has ever seen. If I travel to Oz people can say I succeeded in our goal and congratulate me.. or I could die on the road and people say I failed.When I wander around and live day by day people may think I am one of those losers that isnt travelling to Oz like normal people.. but should that day come that I do not wake up..no one can say I failed in what I set out to do.

Who would win in a fight between Naruto and Luffy

Let’s begin to say that Naruto COULD win.. because so many of his battles have been fought on or near water. Luffy would be hit at one point by one of the many Shadow clones and drown. However Luffy would definitely win in a straight up arena match.  For Luffy hasn’t stopped growing yet. While Naruto has taken down.. kind of .. gods and had less major losses than Luffy did it feels that in a fight between wind and rubber the latter would win.

Naruto’s Chakra is also more a finite resource than Luffy’s Devil Fruit Powers. Luffy has endured more injuries and has his Haki too boost his defences up even more. So he can both take more injuries while also able to sustain less. Now that being said I am using kid Naruto as a model here. Adult Naruto became more cautious and might not burn out as soon.. but I am going to assume we pit these characters in their main form.
Kuma has abilities that work in a similar way as Naruto..using air and such. Since Luffy already took a loss to him, and took it seriously one would think he came up with counters for it , knowing how his fighting style is. Naruto never really had an opponent to similar to how Luffy works and would have a though time to overcome the straw hat’s superior range.

Guess that Title: The Game!

That Time I became friends with an Edgelord and my Spinning Top got Possessed by a Dragon!

This show used to run on tv when I was a kid. Following the adventures of Tyson who fights for fame.. and the safety of the world by letting it rip.Along with the juvenile delinquent Kai and his phoenix, Martial Artist and cat fanboy Ray with his tiger and… well Max and his…purple turtle, Tyson has to compete along with his spirit dragon to be the best spinning top team in the world…which of course also saves the world.

This was such a fun show in the day and I watched all of the orginal series even getting a fair while along in the “spin” off series Metal Fight. Not sure if it’s an actual spin off but it’s still fun to call it that!

The Answer was: Beyblade

All of this is to sell cards?! Grandpa’s Soul got stolen by a 24 year old loon. Now the voice in my head must cheat at cards! A lot!

Promotional anime usually aren’t very good, however many card battle anime are surprisingly well done. The first season of this show (not including season 0)  is NOT really that good. There are barely any rules, there is no rhyme or reason and every single match was just a big rule of cool kind of thing. A card destroying the actual moon.. but also  a tank tunneling through mazes or swords of revealing light that hold up a castle whose floatation rings get destroyed.. so it falls down on other monsters… what?! 

Pegasus and his silver locks and majestic disposition is the antagonist of the first season. Yet did you know that that time he was only 24 years old? I’d always imagine him way older. How can he call the protagonist and the deuteragonist boys when he still is one himself? Regardless. .. fun anime but i call hax!

The Answer Was: Yu-Gi-Oh!

Why is that Referee everywhere? Our Storekeeper is A Master thief!  He lost this medal and made me a robot-battler!

Ah more memories. The adventures of Ikki Tenryou fascinated me when I was kind of to old to be fascinated by it. Along with his trusty robot pal this battle of the week kids show brought so much joy to my world! Each episode we saw another opponent which often included dudes dressed up in skin tight latex suit with a big horn on their head. I am pretty sure one of them was a baby!

Unfortunately this show was dropped by dutch tv before I ever could finish it. It was dropped 6 episodes into the new series with a new villain and a different kind of robots! I have since finished this show but this was one of the few shows that actually had a very solid dutch dub!
At least the dutch people pronounced Erica like it should and not go for that weird E’Ry’Kah stuff. She isn’t an elf you know!

The Answer Was Medabots!

I didn’t wish for this! My best friend got blown up and in anger .. I became an Aryan man.

Now this show was well on it’s way before the titular event happened and while I do not think this show had any ill intentions in it’s message .. I live to ruin your childhood.  In this show we see a dark haired character we all know and love transform into a character with blond hair and blue eyes. Even referring to this state as ..surpassing that of his regular  standing. “Super People” as of sort. So there at least enough similarities to damage your childhood.

In reality famous mangaka Akira Toriyama made this form a reality because it took him to much time to colour in the protagonists hair. He got tired of doing that.. so he came up with a transformation of sorts that allowed him to leave the characters hair blank and he would just have to do the outline. It’s a practical effect that would have made the last part of the story so much easier to draw. As originally Planet Namek was supposed to conclude the series. Of course e wall know more would follow so that blonde hair really turned into a time saver. Especially when the hairdo’s got bigger!

The Answer Was : Dragon Ball Z

That’s not a Jelly Filled Donut : My ten year old son got a mouse to travel the world with! Now the mafia is hunting him down!

Ah even more childhood memories ruined. In this anime set in a wonderful world each ten year old gets either a frog, a turtle a lizard a baby fox or in this case a mouse before they are exiled from their homes trying to win a tournament.. tournament that mostly hold contenders that are twice their age.  Sometimes they are even younger?! Of course it is dangerous to walk through a world filled with monsters all by yourself.. so take this!

So our protagonist is awarded with his first battle pet that turns out to be so strong a criminal organisation that shows a lot of similarities with the Mafia is hunting him down to gain that creature.  This same organisation tries to use a clone of the “ancestor creature” to rule the world. The adventure would kill the protagonist several times (currently around 8) and most seasons do not get a very happy ending!

More Sunshine More Pinkie: Sunshine Blogger Award 3

I had a few blog awards piling up so I thought we should do another TAG-Week. With the possibility of me going into a new Picrew avatar ..but using the Chibi to tell about my past, I really felt like answering questions about me. Crafting some Love for a Craft Lover 

I was nominated for this post by Selina, a wonderful person who runs the blog Craft Lover. She has an adorable blogger that started out somewhere around september in 2018 but since January this year her blogging has truly been unleashed. Filled with fun and joyful crafting tips..which make me wish I had a blender. Selina seems a bit younger than my usual followers and not as into anime as my normal followers so I am really happy she decided to give me a follow and take a peek at my posts anyway! What is your favorite color?

Not many people know this, just kidding, but it is actually pink. Back in my early 20’s my muscle condition worsened at it began to affect my heart and I had to spend a lot of time in the hospitals. I kind of felt like a labrat .. in poor health, that visited several hospitals and several doctors. Seeing so many faces, I kinda felt faceless myself.. unsure if I would actually overcome this or not I feared dying as if I was a number.  Trough wearing Pink though I got a sense of identity. People began calling me Pinkie.. or Pink one .. or whatever dutch variation came along. It gave me an identity that stuck with me. Before the whole ordeal orange was my favorite colour but pink made me who I am today.

What is your Harry Potter House?

I am a Hufflepuff. according to Pottermore but a Ravenclaw in core values. I feel like a hufflepuff but I am not that hard of a worker. I got the friendly and kind hearted spirit of a Hufflepuff and I prefer their common room, but I am also one who is guided by wit and creativity. I probably could fit in both and would be asked to be sorted in Hufflepuff in the end, though I’d probably mostly hang with people from Ravenclaw.

Describe your Home!

I live in a 22 square meter studio in a 12 story high flat.  Ilive on the seventh floor. I have a too small kitchen that is oftenly cluttered. I have blue carpet on my floor and blue walls (which I want to paint pink but I might move out sooner rather than later) . Parallel to my kitchen is my bed, that usually has pink Lines on it. It is a jack sized two person bed. And there is a Kallax Cabinet from Ikea function as my night stand and main method of storing. It’s filled with plushies (mostly pokemon) pop figures and some other pariphanilia. This includes a american football from when I cosplayed as Tommy Wiseau. A small cherry wooden cabinet next to the ikea cabinet (which is  like a white frame of 16 white cubes) separates the living area. My living area is super pink! It has three couches all covered in pink blankets. A coffee table is in the middle with a blank blanket with pink roses on them.One couch has grey pillows, another one has a pinkish gloss brown ones and the final one holds some pink plushies sitting on them. 

There is a big pink chair next to my 40 inch tv that I sit on when I dm in dungeons and dragons, it has it’s own side table filled with pink knicknacks on it that I alternate. There is a few cabinets near that hold my games, board games, and my D&D stuff as well as my administrator and a single drawer filled with little toys and “junk” that signify memories of my life.  My modem is on a pink cardboard box just so I can add more pink in my house. There is a pink Umbrella on my tv wall and I have several paintings and posters on my wall , themed with Japanese prints, the promo poster for my original blog that made me a weeb and some other personal art. I have a walk in closet like thing.. that is way to cluttered due to my shelves there collapsing on themselves. I need a friend to come over and fix it.. but due to Corona he can’t come for a while.. so that little room is a mess of pink clothes!

Do you like Math?

It’s has been about 10 years since I last took a math class and I was never very good at it. To me there are two types of math.  There is math for math’s sake. Like a bunch of formulas that proof that some arbitrary rule is correct.. the X=Y+7Z/Pi kind of stuff. Eewww. Math is not an art nor is it a science as long as it has no practical use.  Back in lawschool I asked on teacher .. “If I understand this correctly, I can’t see any use on how this formula could be used for practical purposes” he said I was correct but it was just a rule that was proven. That really sucks. As a DnD player and DM however i do use probability math a fair bit, I can apply that one and that is something I don’t particularly mind. i am not having any fun with it unless I am playing Freddi Fish though.. and that is math that is a about 20.000 leagues below my level.

Who is your favorite blogger besides yourself

I guess I would have to say that would have to be Irina from I Drink and Watch Anime.  Or Rini-Senpai as I call her. While there are plenty of bloggers out there that are much greater at this than me, Senpai definitely being one of them , it’s her style and choices of topic that win me over to her. I love her mindset and feel that If I had know her in real life we might actually hang out! Delusions aside , the voice in her blogging and the personality in her posts are real. While she doesn’t always make as much sense as some other bloggers that personal twist is what draws me into her posts so much.It is hard to explain but at some level I really understand her and her motivations. As if we used to be friends but now basically have grown apart and reading each others posts. I can read her posts and smile “that is so Rini-senpai”.. which is weird and probably gave me some weird ass Yandere points now. (A Yandere is basically Overly Attached Girlfriend the meme.. but more crazy)

Dogs or Cats? Why?!

Dogs definitely win. Tiny dogs and oinking dogs over big and barking dogs though.  Cats are a bit hit or miss for me. Due to my condition I tend to twitch a lot and spasms a bit. Dogs have shown to be really loving and caring around me.. as if protecting me from me or taking care of me while cats can freak out from a twitch or spasm and claw me up a bit.  I like that I can walk a dog, take it to the forest to play. Dogs understand me very well and I understand them. Something I can’t really say about cats. I also don’t like how cats mostly just look like reskins of another, while dogs definitely have different models! So team dog! I’d even prefer a dog girl over a cat one!

What is your dream job?

I am currently unfit for work due to my health and mental health condition so this one is a bit tricky. I would love to write for a living but I am not good enough for that. I have a trouble reading back on my own text because of how my memory works. I remember everything very specifically. So when I read something back that has typo’s in it.. in my memory I hear my own words and voice and see it whouthout the typos.. so I would need an editor. I would love to blog professionally, visiting conventions, expos and events to share positivity and happiness across the internet. Yet I feel I am unable to do this myself without having a collab partner. Being a hostess and manager of a tropical island resort for geeks also seems like something I would like to do.. if we don’t need to worry about realism. Realistically I am not sure , it is hard with the physical limitations of me to think of something perhaps just manage a game or geek  store or something.

I love to learn something about the people around here so when we are from different blogospheres those posts will always sit well with me. There is something beautiful about getting to know another person that never gets old.  But of course that is not all that Selina is she is a crafter so let’s take a look at my favorite craft. That would be how to make a snowglobe. I never thought about glycerine to make it this easy but this seems like a fun way thing to do with some of the figures I have that can not shine! I might actually make one. Though.. hot gluing my figurine does leave a bit f a bad taste in my mouth.. due to that hot gluing an anime figurine can mean something that is not very crafty.. but very loving though.

What is your Favorite Fruit?

Peaches or Cherries would probably be tied on a first place. When it comes down to flavors I love everything cherry flavored. I adore cherry juice, my favorite candies are cherry flavored. Malibu Cherry might be my favorite mix drink and also regular cherries can make me one happy Pinkie. I really love peaches as well though. Biting in a plumb peach  just fills me with joy. I taste sunshine and happiness when I taste a peach. Raspberries are also great but I want I always want to pair those with chocolate.

What is your favorite vegetable

Definitely spinach. It’s so good. I use them for salads, I use it as a side dish. I use it to make pasta sauce or soups. I use it for filling stuff like peppers or chicken rolls.  I like it fresh or frozen. Even my favorite smoothie has spinach (and apple) in it. In fact I am gonna have some spinach tonight! Yay spinach! Also it’s such a fun word. In dutch it doesn’t really sound like a dutch word. In English it doesn’t sound like an English word. The German word sounds like they took it from Italy and the french word…yeah that one is super french! The Japanese word sounds kind of Spanish!

The Mystery Blogger: The Curious Case of Pinkie

Three Random Stories About myself

I got attacked by Geese

Last time I told you how I was disliked by cats and wasps so this time I will tell you I was attacked by Geese.It happend when I visited my great aunt Els in a Monastery. She is a nun and in our childhood had a flat close by the sea where we would spend our summer holidays with her.  So when she moved to a monastery back in our local province we of course had to check out her new place… Including the garden. It was a nice summer day, like the ones we used to spend with her so I wore open shoes. They monastery had a few animals for then nuns to take care of including three big geese that more or less free roamed the garden. .

One came closer and me , the duck lover,  thought it was adorable. Until I heard a honk and felt a very sharp pain. The Geese had bit my tiny toe. I reacted to the pain and apparently sort of kicked the goose! Which prompted it’s siblings to join the attack on me. I had wandered off from my great aunt and sister a bit because I love awkward water birds so it took them a while to notice. I did not win that fight the geese did! I somehow ended up on the floor with my 70 year old great-aunt the Nun coming to my rescue. 

I get extreme seasickness.

As a kid  already got sick on a boat easy but as I grew older it grew worse and worse. Now I don’t even need to be on a boat to be seasick. Any floatation device will do! In fact I do not even need to be on the sea anymore to be seasick. Back before my dad’s company bankrupted we had a house with a pool and I used to float around on that with an air mattress or one of those big tubes. However when I turned 21 ish..  and would visit floating for over 10 minutes on that pool already made me sick as a dog. The worst case however was definatly in Lloret Del Mar, a popular vacation resort for those who want to get drunk or layed. I was not interested in the latter but the first sounded neat back then.

I had another floatee and felt tired from the night before so I went out to sea as it was super hot. Put on sunscreen factor a billion  and rapped my foot around some area rope so I would not float off. I dozed off for about fifteen minutes waking up.. feeling so bad I wanted to die. I was so sick and everything spun around that I just tossed myself of the mattress desperately trying not to foul the ocean water. I managed! Yet I was looking so pale and terrible people called rescue workers towards me. I managed to find way to my blanket.. dug a big hole… and right as the rescue workers showed up I filled that hole. It took me 3 hours before I was able to move again, and barely avoided getting an ambulance called on me. Fun day at the beach! .. Oh and just so you know.. by now it’s even so bad I don’t even need a floation device to get seasick. If I just float around in unruly water.. I get sick.

I did not have any female friends because of my gamer hobbies and weird and awkward motions and he was a band geek. One who prided himself on his intellect.. even though I totally outdid him without trying much to his dismay.He had better grades than me for sure but he studies hours on end to be the top of the class. I was second best  and at some courses even the best without even trying.
One day Johan was sick and we got geography homework he did not make… because that was one of the subjects I was better in than him no matter how hard he tried. It was an issue that he had not done the homework because of how sick rules worked for us. it was homwork given during his sick days so since he felt better since that morning the homework was excused. Still had to answer a question and he could just read my answer. I made a rare mistake and the teacher told him the answer was wrong. This was during the third period of 7 we had that day.

Johan told me I made him look like a fool.. a clown, this is what I get for coasting .. his reputation had been damaged now he gave such a stupid answer. He told me I shamed him so bad he needed to see if he even could hang out with me anymore. He kept talking trash untill the 7th period. I told him I was sorry for the 1000th time and told him we are in school to learn. If we never made a mistake what was the point of even learning. It was an honest mistake and I was sorry. the 7th period was math class , Johan’s strenght and something he really liked. So he actually did his homework for that.. but teacher was running late.
He showed it to me and told me this is what perfect homework looks like when it’s not made by a braindead idiot who made a fool out of me he said. I was done with it. He kept saying this is GOOD homework.. not some sloppy scribbles like yours.  

Very calmly I asked if I could see the answer to question 3 as he had a different outcome. As he wanted to proof how right he is he handed me his homework. I ripped out the pages put them in my mouth and ate them.It was a bit troublesome to eat but b sheer force of will it went down. I told him “Yum! That  was GOOD homework indeed” .. the teacher entered the room and his finger shot up. I wondered if he was really going to do it… and yes as soon as he was allowed to speak he said “Teacher Pinkie ate my Homework” the entire class laughed so hard and he got so red. Teacher asked me .. while tearing up with laughter if this was true.. and I admitted it. Teacher laughed harder..as I explained the situation but send me to the principal anyway. Which was the geography teacher (he had a twin function)  I told him what I did and he told me “Good job.. he was being such an asshole to you about that wrong answer” . He handed me some lines another student already wrote and told me that I had to hand that to him in class 2 days from now so that it seemed that I was punished.. but as I was a big pushover back than he was glad I stepped up to Johan! Another teacher even gave me a candybar when he heard the story. Johan was not very well loved by the teachers so this act was super amusing to them!

Now I told you some pretty long stories there but that is because I can be very brief with Matt’s questions as those don’t require a lot of explanation!

What is your favorite Anime Opening Song?

Don’t give me a Funny look for this one but it is Jason Paige’s Gotta Catch’m all. To be honest I think this goes for a lot of people who just pick something cooler. I could claim Sorario Days fron Tengen Toppa is my favorite one. Some might say Guren no Yumiya but take a step in the karaoke room at a convention and it will show you the truth. When those classic tunes start playing.. everyone sings along. If there are 50 people in the room .. 50 people sing it. If there  are 300, 300 people will sing it. That song is not just an anime opening .. it is the sound of our childhood!

What Anime had a great impact on your Life

When we talk about the greatest impact that once again would have go to pokémon. And After that the standard Shonen: Dragonball Z , Naruto, Sailor Moon,  Bleach, One Piece. These six made me fall in love with anime and made me do more. Without them Tengen Toppa could not have influenced my life, without them I would not have seen Angel Beats or School Days and I honestly think this goes for most of us. I am sure I can spin an interesting tale on why Kamina influenced my life or how Fruits Basket changed my vision on something but without these starters … that nowadays we kind of scoff at as stuf for rookies, I would not have had  the benefits of Kamina’s teachings. I would not have cried as much with Angel Beats or I would not have learned about that bond of friendship that is such a important theme in so many anime. While plenty of other anime had a bigger direct impact these oh so boring answers have contributed to all those other lessons.

If you could spend a whole day with an anime character who would it be and what would you do.

That depends on the rules.. if they bring what defines them I would pick a pokémon trainer that is bad to their pokémon…murder them and well then I get to keep the pokémon. Giving them a good life and only wasting a side character that doesn’t even exist in our world.. thus it is not murder! I could of course go with a friendlier answer but I would never spend a day with an anime character I love. Having to see them become real for a day just to lose them forever after that would probably mean I’d choose a character that has some utility to me rather than something emotionally wholesome.

I’d pick a wealthy anime character like Lucia Heartfilia, Lala Satalin Deviluke or Alice Nakiri and have them shop with me and fix my wealth problems a bit. Glamp up my flat a little. Perhaps throw in a beauty treatment in as well as we get a whole day! Someone I like but do not love so that if the day ends I am not heartbroken but I do have some eternal reminders.

What is the first Manga You ever read

Is this a zombie, volume one! When I wrote for a dutch manga blog one of my fellow writes named Floris and I were walking across the dealer room floor when I asked him what a great Manga was to start my adventure with. He told me about the series and I was not disappointed.  It was whacky and bubbly and just fun with plenty of insanity and to this day it’s one of the very few physical manga I own, due to how hard they are to get here. Good memories though!

What is your least favorite anime genre

I am not really deterred by an anime genre. It is more themes that I am turned off by. I really dislike militaristic and political themes as well as fighting over silly stuff like honour and pride. I do not mind someone taking up arms to defend their family..but those who just follow the way of the warrior get no respect from me and can’t keep my attention.
Hence I really dislike stuff like Vinland Saga and other historic anime. So I would say that is my least favorite genre. Mecha anime often have these themes as well but  there is stuff like that Zoids tournament thing and that somewhat bigoted stereotype gundam world tournament thing which I do not mind at all. Retellings of Nobunaga’s story or viking stuff however escape the political and military stuff so rarely that it would be my least favorite. Not sure of Historic Military stuff is a genre though.
Being pretty asexual (actually greysexual) hentai doesnt do anything for me either which technically is an anime genre? As such I do not care much for Rosey Cheek anime either.

Five Games that Influenced my Life!

Naja from Blerdy Otome is such an amazing person. Not only is she a Blerd with a Blog. She is also one of the core team members of OWLS. She is the person we speak to for OWLS business and when I want to ask advice on dating sim gifts for my friends. Now she is even providing me with content for my blog! In the form of telling you which 5 games have had the biggest impact on my life… For those who have been following me for a while .. I bet you can at least guess two of these.. or at least come close. How many can you guess?! 

Since I spoke about all five of these in tag posts or regular posts before I decided to make a little game of it! How well do you know me?

Pokémon Blue & Gold & Everything Else

The girl that started out as a Pokemon Blogger  , choosing Pokemon as one of the games that is most influential in her live? No way right?! See if you did not guess I would pick this  you clearly have not been reading anything of my content. However picking out a single game is a bit hard. Pokemon is not a single game that has defined me, it is an entire series. that influenced me. Each installment has taught me something new , each game has its own story for me. I told you the story of my first Pokemon game before. Of course my Pokemon love began at Pokemon Blue which was that first game.. but my favorite game .. and the one I went out of my way to get myself.. with my own money in my own time was Pokemon Gold.

Back when it came out there was a game store a couple of times over I’d frequent. It was helmed by a woman .. I think her name was called Patricia.. but I might be misremembering that. She had this little store and we used to talk about games. Even if I was just a kid , we had a similar taste in games. We were both very hyped for the second pokémon game… which was in a time before it was SUPER hyped with global releases. Back then the Gameboy colour  was not region locked or at least we could play american games on our handhelds so Patricia.. or maybe her name was Saskia…. ordered American version and she kept one behind for me. So when I found out I could play this game earlier than anyone in the school it blew my mind!

Back then my motor skills had already started to decline noticeably so I did not really have anyone to brag off against as I was being bullied..but still! I spend all of my money on that game and I must have finished it at least 3 times per each starter.  This was a game I worked to get, it was the game I earned and it was the game that held me up trough one of the darkest periods. Cyndaquil and Mareep were there for me! But still I do not think that singling out a game in this franchise is possible for me! I love it all.. it’s more than just a video game. It is an experience that for me always meant feeling less lonely.

The Other Obvious One:
Ducktales
(NES)

If you never heard me talk about Ducktales before I am pretty sure you have not read a lot of tag posts. I think I mention this game in nearly every single blog tag I do. When something about music is asked.. ducktales is there as well.  As a kid I always moved wonkey and clutzy.. I got therapy for it but it never seemed to get that much better. My crude motor skills weren’t on par with that of a “normal” person. As such I ran more clumsily and could not hide as easily and sports never where any fun for me. As a result I missed out. Both my female friends as my guy friends kind of began to shun me because I  wasn’t good at the games they played. To give me something to do that did not get me hurt or alienated my mom and dad tried to let me play some video games. The first games I got were Super Mario Bros 3 and Ducktales.

Ducktales was SUCH a good game and too this day is. Whenever I feel blue I put on that amazing soundtrack or play one of the two versions of that game. It’s just so good! I mostly play the amazon and the moon stage as those are my absolute favorites but I oftenly finish it as well.  I think I completed the race to the number one dime so many times that had I actually gotten the dime.. I could pay for the game right now. Playing Ducktales was the first time I felt .. equal to friends who came over.. later even better. Gaming was fine motor skills which where fine for me I could do this like any other normal kid. While gaming I wasn’t any worse and that joy it gave me stuck with me .. and it made me a gamer, that is how I wanted to spend my time. In a way it’s one of the pillars who I am today and that is exactly why it fits here.

The One You Might Remember:
Donkey Kong Country
(SNES)

Donkey Kong Country was one of the first games I was proud on beating. It was a fairly hard game and back then one of the longest games I had played.  There was just so much there. Not that much more than a mario game in actuality but there where so much more mechanics to learn to study, mini games to play, things to collect, secrets to discover.  Compared to Super Mario World this game very hard. Even the last level of the first world wasn’t anything to be trifled with. The mine card stage in the second world .. had me stuck for almost a year until I managed to beat it (I never said I was good). However there was something so appealing to this game that I wanted to get further. No matter if I wiped in the jungle world, the temple world, the forest world, the ice world, the toxic world or the kremlin country! I game-over’ed sooo many times. I reloaded so many stages and honed my gaming skills with this game. It taught me lessons about perseverance and how to adapt and react more quicker. It made me a better gamer.

Beating Donkey Kong made me experience pride, an emotion I had never really experienced before. I could do something some of my classmates did not. Back then they were still talking to me. While I would not say they respected me for it.. they acknowledged I was good in something. A thing that wasn’t important to them sure..but still. It gave me a sense of Identity. The SNES gamer kid that can beat some pretty though games.. I beat the Lion King on SNES too!  It was great to finally be something. This is the point in my life where I became a geek. It might sound very weird to get some self gratification out of something like that but before that I was just “that awkward kid” sure I had good grades but I didn’t do anything for that.. that was just there. I did not study harder as other kids.. in facts most of the time I coasted.. I never knew why other kids hate homework so much because it took no effort. So it did not feel like something I actively defined myself with.. so Donkey Kong and kicking thats game’s ass was the first thing I did.

The one the sharp ones could get:
 A Hat in Time
( PC)

I have not been shy about my love for A Hat in Time, the 3d platforming sensational game by Gears for Breakfast.  Why this one is important? It pulled me out of a burn out as gamer. It came out at a period I was at my poorest. I had no money to spend on games and what money I did spend on it felt wasted. Every game began to feel the same to me.  There was this slog. You had to craft or level even in platformers. Grinding out gear to add playtime, and everything had to be a massive open world, with deep brooding characters.

During the Wii Era I fell of Nintendo like a brick, landing in the xBox 360 camp.. mostly due to it launching with the game Kameo.  Even before trying my hand on some more serious games on PS2 and that xBox that was not the upcoming one. Aside from Pokémon I did not really allow myself to play cutezee games. Which was fine for a while. I had fun with Halo , Gears of War, Prince of Persia, the Arkham games and all that sort of stuff. Fallout, Skyrim, etc. Yet they got old to me. Around the time Breath of the Wild and Horizon Zero Dawn came out.. I thought I was done being a gamer.  Yet a little kid brought me back.

Hat Kid made me see that there still was a play for people like me. It just  made me return to my old loves. The shooter stuff and the fighter stuff I played because it was popular.. it had elements in it that I liked like a nice story and colourful blips and characters but when they added more and more stuff to make it like the popular games it all lost it’s charm.

Hat Kid reminded me what I actually liked about gaming and brought me back to it. I switched back to platformers like A Hat in Time but also stuff like “The Messenger” , I got Mario Marker and in time even got gifted a switch because that was my style of gaming. I found the sort of games I liked and even if I try to  go for those other genres . .like trying another shooter.. I rarely end up finishing those. Yet each Platformer or colourful adventure I touch gets finished. With it’s great Soundtrack, the charismatic Hat Kid herself the unique and super charming levels this game was something I absolutely needed.

I also never shut up about this music!

The Odd one out:
Star Wars The Old Republic
(PC)

This spot almost went to Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VII the once that let me enjoy narrative games, that in a way started to make me love anime or at least it’s tropes. I emulated Chrono Trigger and rented FF7 for PC. Yet recently I’ve been steering away from that a bit again. I rather play 10 , 10 hour games than a 100 hour game to be honest.  Yet there is once game that made me discover so much more about myself. Which fundamentally changed me. It is the game that made me discover Pinkie. It also made me discover sides about myself on fundamental levels though some more in hindsight as others.

It gave me a ton of my life’s missions, catchphrases, style and more. This MMO did this in no way through its own means though. I mean sure it’s a good game, and the story lines were nice.. but this game isn’t important to me because of its core gameplay it shaped me because I adored roleplaying it it. The character I made became a blueprint in ways to how I wanted to live my life. How I thought in some things… behind my “filter” of normalness and it shaped me into the person I am today.

Star Wars Roleplay COuld get weeird at times!

Her name was Sy’ra Delina at the end of my roleplay she was about my age but she started out younger (time moved a bit faster in  roleplay in the game unlike for example WoW).Daughter of the Alderaan Noble, Maximilian Delinda and his evil sith wife Ragnya. Sy’ra was  unbeknownst to her father and herself .. bred by Ragnya to eventually be the host of her new body. After her mother murdered her father Sy’ra was shipped to Tatooine, where she was beaten every day and tortured to break her mind. She would be taken out into a cave and beaten bloody. At the end of the day she had to walk through the desert back to the house if she wanted to get dinner. (Her mother tried to feed her hatred believing it would make her stronger in the force) .

As soon as se left the caveSy’ra saw her blood fall in the white sands and mix into pinkish like crystals. A symbol to her that she would be safe for at least a few hours. No pain and she could get stuff like food.. that still at least made her a bit happy. And so Sy’ra would take this lesson and later become “ The Pink Sith” Sy’ra was inspired to be different. Like for me how bullying ended each day after the school bell and how the sound mellows me out still.

After a whole incident with her mother that made Sy’ra lose her mind for a bit.. and other people fixing it she discovered she had a niche to offer in the world of the Sith. The Power of Friendship. While she did offer genuine friendship Sy’ra would never really get into friendships with liabilities or people who made her weak.She carefully picked her allies using her positivity to gain powers well beyond her level. This usually involved other players as well. While many classic Sith players despised how different she was, every honest GM had to acknowledge what happened was fair. Through the power of friendship and positive thinking Sy’ra made a big impact on roleplay guilds the character was in. In the end she became so powerful not trough fighting but because of the bonds she had become untouchable. Those who wished to harm her would have to face an army of pissed of Darths and Lords.

Unfortunately the camp that hated me was much more personal friends with the GM. and they told me I could either choose to retire the character.. where people would think of her as a friend.. or I would have people begin to resent for no real rp reason but because the character had to much influence in the guild.. even if it was legit.. I had outplayed the other side so much that I had t leave or be reset.

So Sy’ra took her leave from the organisation she was part of , to raise her daughter and go rescue an old friend and with the bonds she had build she would live her happily ever after still. Sy’ra left on her own terms and with her own words. She would have friends for life which people seemed to agree on. Guildless roleplay really burned out for me fast unfortunately but I fondly think back at the character I wrote. Pink, happy, keen on giving everyone advice who needed it. I discovered it is okay to be different and I became more confident in being different. TOR came at a time where I was at my sickest. It was my way to socialise and to have bonds. Based on how Sy’ra gave advice.. people came to ask it to me in real life as well. People feel at ease with me to share deeper things and I loved that role. Not only Sy’ra mattered I mattered. I wasn’t just an invisible person….which really mimicked why I liked pink so much. So Sy’ra is me and I am Sy’ra, one with limitations and one without and the way I want to live my life now is right in the middle of those! Reaching beyond my limits, but  little at a time. Slowly..like a drill… piercing the heavens…

Pinkie Plays on eBay Part 2: More Weird Pokémon Stuff

It is time to search eBay again for weird pokémon stuff we did not know existed and we did not know we need. Last time we looked at some weird categories and found out there were a lot of vagrants. What will our search give us this time? Again per category we will look at something I would buy.. something I would not buy and something nodbody should buy! What shall we find today?! To the tall grass  patches of eBay and let’s find out.

Category 1: Pets

This time I made a very interesting discovery! The Dutch eBay has very different categories and also other entries per category! So my searching grounds have expanded a bit. While I was not really baffled by what I found this time around I think I have found some hilarious entries all the same. So how do we give our pets some Pokémon Glam?

Item that I do want: Jigglypuff outfit for your French Bulldog

I love dogs that go oink! I like dogs that are kind of awkward looking and I like dogs that aren’t  higher than my knees. You know something that can sit on the bed and might as well be a slobbering plushie. My sister has a frenchie that is adorable so when I saw this costume I really got way more excited than I should. I mean I bet once I can get a toy poodle (my ideal dog.. I love them so much)  I can get them a suit like this. But just look at how awkward the costume looks. That look on the dogs face and especially that exquisite colouring. I can have a Pink Poké Dog! Helium Smiling Balloon Yeah! Coming in at €52,54 this is a bit steep for putting a molten jigglypuff on top of your dog but at least it looks very soft and fluffy!

Item that I do not want: The Pokéball Cat Carrier Backpack

Cats do not like Pinkie and as a result Pinkie does not like cats. As such I didn’t even know they made special backpacks to carry your cat. So if this is very common I am sorry! However for those who like to pretend Mister Whiskerson is their own little Skitty, Pokemon has a solution for them. A backpack shaped like a pokéball. With a transparent bubble so your cat can look outside! This looks very similar as to how Pokemon look in their pokéball in the manga actually so I have to give them points for coming up with a sensical product. Still the idea of carrying a cat in a backpack is already kinda weird to me. Let alone to pretend it is in a pokéball than… actually I would only carry a cat around like that but still. It’s odd! This only costs 35 euros plus some change which really makes me doubt the quality of it though.. Then again I have no experience with this and unless they make one for ducks… or dogs dressed like Jigglypuff I am probably gonna pass them up regardless.

This add does make it look pretty awesome!

Item that I think Nobody wants:  The Pokémon Cardboard Cat Home

I know little of cats but I do know they like to hide in cardboard boxes. So  of course you have to slap a pokémon sticker onto that to make some money! This is not just any cardboard box! This is a cardboard box that has a snorlax shaped hole in it.. and two Purloin shaped light holes in the back. Here and there you can find some other pokemon shaped holes.. but other than that it is a normal brown cardboard box.  So obviously .. cardboard that had shapes delicately cut out of them will set you back 40 euros. Now sweet readers do not take this the wrong way..but if you pay 40 dollars for a cardboard box with holes in it, which you can basically do yourself with a box cutter and a printer (which you can also get together for that same amount of money) I do not think you are that sound of mind.  Sure it is a very solid cardboard box.. but still this is a cardboard box worth the price of a week of groceries… please don’t buy stuff like this!

Category 2: Special Services

Now this sounded very .. uhm.. special.. unfortunately I was severely disappointed with what people offered there. For some reason it is fairly common to sell Pokémon Shinies.. either for Sword and Shield.. (for about 2,50 each)  or in Pokémon go… averaging at 20 dollar each. Going up to 70 dollars for a single shiny or 450 dollars for an account with a shiny legendary or 2. I do not get why people would do this.. but hey I am an alien.. so if you really want to buy a shiny or sell one go ahead I just feel like this goes against what pokémon is about.. but hey for the avid collector wanting peace of mind.. go you I guess.

Item that I do want : I WILL reveal your name! In this POKEMON GO style video intro.

I have NO idea what this does. Except for the title and a vague picture I have no idea what this guy will do. I assume he will make a video of a pokeball opening and my name showing. So I could use it on youtube. I have no idea on the animation though , the font he will use, the time it will take.. or even if he needs my name! Perhaps he is psychic and can guess it and show that in this video. That would be a neat trick to see. He will reveal my name is all that I know. For the totally manageable price of 5 dollar I could see myself buying this just for the LOLs.What will it be.. we do not know.. but I have wasted money on Mystery Bags before so this can’t be that much worse! I mean he WILL reveal my name surely that beats a pencil topper!

Item that I do not want: Guy Who Makes Pokémon Printables for a Birthday Party

I saw this one surprisingly much! Using very generic images as well as selling prints that are not your own, which I am pretty sure is not allowed, people are making birthday invitations for little kids. Now who DOESN’T have a friend these days who at least can photoshop a little?  I mean , I might be ignorant here but a guy downloading the pokemon text font (which I have as well) and writing Happy Birthday Dylan on a screen grab by adding the font and a white text box is not really a service that should require being paid for. I honestly would do it for free. Sure I might attend people I have a Ko-Fi but I would never call myself a professional kids birthday invitation maker.  The weirdest one I saw was on who printed them on Hershey Mini Chocolate Bar wrappers. No where does he specify if that includes the treat as well. But really the sheer amount of invitation makers surprised. There were like 12 separate entries of them.. in which he already prepared a print and showed it as the displayed picture… that doesn’t sound like a sound business strategy!

Item I think no one would buy:  Where to find Pikachu …… dot com.

This entry is listed several times on the marketplace and claims that wheretofindpikachu.com is a very hot Pokémon Go website. I guess if you only played Pokémon Go for like a day you might not encounter a Pikachu and wonder where he is but there are SOOOO many Pikachu events in this game that I really wonder. Is anybody ever really looking for Pikachu?  He can be found everywhere. What is the potential for a domain like that? What can you do with Where to Find Pikachu? I guess you can make a webshop that sells Pikachu goods but with a website like this you better darn make sure you have the legit ones .. and those are quite pricey. Plus just selling Pikachu Stuff … I am not sure it’s easy to make enough cash with it to justify the 5000 dollar asking price for this domain.  There is simply to much Pikachu in the world. I mean I have like 3 Pikachu’s at home and I am not even THAT big of a Pikachu Fan I mean if you count ALL the Pikachu you can find in my house alone.. I guess we could even find like up to 20 of them (Pokémon Cards and other depictions would count) so really.. he is like the easiest pokémon to find.

Whats with the cryptic images for Pokémon Specialty Services?

Now crafts is not the weirdest category to expect some pocket monster in. But it is a perfect category to find some weird and goofy looking entries in. Please be noted that I do not want to insult anyone’s craft but I am all about honest. If you say you make Pikachu it has to look like Pikachu.  I am sorry if you feel hurt for me telling you it doesn’t look like the orginal, that doesn’t mean I can do it better nor do I need to be to pass judgement. I know what Pokémon look like and if they end up looking very different I can still notice despite my lack of skill. I might not be doing it better but I am also not asking money for it. Again I respect anyones craft and hope they had a lot of fun making it and if that is so all credits to them. I will be honest when it comes to purchasing these kind of things.

Item that I do want:  Pokémon INSPIRED Crochet Toys

See, THIS is how I like it. The Brit selling these calls them Pokémon Inspired toys! So they can get away with inaccuracies. Great. Honestly I love these! They have just the right amount of clunk and derpiness and just enough pokémon flair for me to honest want to collect these. Thank you these are amazing. So I just found the knitting paterns but I bet I can buy one as well if I offer enough money!  I will admit they don’t look a lot like their pokémon counterpart but there is this uniqueness and a style in these I still can really adore. I would love to sit these on one of my shelves. So there you go! You don’t always have to be the very best! As long as what you do reflects you!

I really love these.. but I can’t knit or do that crochet thing myself!

Item that I do not want: Pokémon Crafted Rave Gear

I encountered a LOT of RAVE gear during my search of the web. Like either people really like to take pokémon stuff to rave parties or people made it and no one wants to buy it thats why there is this much! The weirdest thing I have encountered was this Umbreon Face Mask.  That doesn’t look like you can see through it well at all. Another highlight was the Trippy Pikachu Necklace, which features a budha like Pikachu variant made out of ironing beads. Do people really wear that kind of stuff to raves? I mean.. I have visited a dutch Rave once or twice in my life and I never saw people with face masks or pokemon toys wrapped around their neck.  I found a lot of people trying to sell me happy pills though! I ran and never came back! Perhaps if I had a Umbreon mask over my face they would not ask!?

I like that this Rave crafter is also a hardcore Hello Kitty Fan!

Item that I think nobody wants: Stained Glass Pikachu

Shipping glass from across the world is already an iffy business. So if I buy something it has to be spot on at least. This stained glass Pikachu ..isn’t really spot on. It kinda looks like stained glass fell on him.. and we just see him through the stained glass.  Props for using the old Pikachu build though. Honestly though, this is one of those things that is hard to sell. When a light is passing through it .. it looks quite alright..ish.. but when you hang it on your wall to display it.. it really doesn’t work for me. We get this dark smudged fragile attempt at Pikachu that you really need to display in the light.. but the backside of it looks scary as  pink poo! It just feels like Freddy Krueger lives in this one to me and I am sure I can not be the only one who thinks so. I lost the exact price in my notes but this one did not come that cheap either (I think somewhere between 50 and 70 euros) so I would say this one is an item we can pass.

I am sorry Stained Glass person.. I really do appreciate what you have made, I am happy you can use your fandom in such creative ways. I just do not really think people would .. or should .. buy it. This is yours be proud of it! I love you for making this.. and dear readers I love you all! Keep smiling and I will see you all in the next post!

Pinkie in Search of a Waifu (Part 4) Girl Friends

Wrong Cocktail I know! But A new one will appear if I read more Manga!

It is time to find a fictional character to date again, before we can start my bachelorette adventure I still need 7 2d girls for me to even be able to host this event.  Between  running out of suggested anime and trying to follow PreCure I had little time to watch an entire series of Yuri stuff. So I tried something I very rarely do! I read a manga. A manga with a bit of a unimaginative name of Girl Friends! Surely though with such a title I can surely find a girlfriend right?

Cute Yuri

To find this manga I googled a bit on the term cute Yuri. I don’t like smut so I  hoped that by adding the cuteness factor I could eliminate to much carnal and fleshy sheet wrinkling scenes. I was write.. while there are scenes like it,  those function a narrative purpose. A source of envy , a first time, a timely escape. You know functional lewdness I guess and even that part was pretty tame. Even for someone like me! I mean I still breezed through as it just is not very satisfying content for me but what happened in terms of soiling the linens was “cute”. A descriptor I’d say fits this entire Manga. Yet off all the series I just saw this was my least liked product yet. It’s cute but something was missing to me. Is it the fact that I am just not that invested in manga as I am in anime? Or is their a deeper issues. It was time to find out.


Consisting out of about 35 chapters across 5 volumes this manga focuses on the blossoming relationship between Mariko and Akiko. Mari as she is better known throughout the manga is your typical egghead girl at first. She is just in class, being seen as nothing more as someone that gets good grades. Akiko who is better known as Akko  decides to befriend the Mari and update her image a bit. From here on out they become close friends and not long after even best friends. As the title of the anime already implies it doesn’t even take that long for Mari to realise that she has feelings for Akko that go beyond that of best friends. But how would a love like this work, with a girl that is as popular as Akko?

Adorable Art

The first thing I noticed in this anime is how cute the facial expressions of mostly Akko and Mari are, but also that off their friends. These characters show their emotions very well, and the design on the characters is quite cute. Through the majority of the manga we see a focus on four characters. Akko and Mari of course being the lead characters followed by their besties Sugi and Tamanin. I loved the lowbrow adventures of these four. They are such simple girl adventures like buying a dress , make up tests and diets. When the girls move up a year and no longer sit with each other in the same class we are introduced to Tagu and Kuno, two classmates of Akko and Mari who push the pair a bit more outside their comfort zone. Asking them along to Mixer parties where they can hook up with boys! I did not like this pair as much as their designs are fairly similar to Akko’s. At time I had difficulty to distinguish them a bit which led me to grow annoyed with them.

The manga does not do a lot of effort into background work. Most panels have a white background with only some vague details unless it is needed for the plot.  The girls do hang out a limited spots as well. School, Mcdonalds, Mr Donut, Akko’s house , Mari’s house and the mall are basically the only real sets we see. Other locations we often see skipped or just imagined as some vague detail. I was surprised how much I did not mind that issue even if I was very aware of it. There is a minimalist approach to everything but the girls which really keeps you focussed on what matters and during the first half or so of the story I was smiling like a baby as I moved through a delightfully breezy story.

Drama for the sake of Drama

Bloom into You , told us a story of a girl that wasn’t romantically active being the subject of interest of a character who is romantically invested in that person. There was this tension and a sense that things could go wrong.. or at least that the character had to go through a major change. In Liz and the Bluebird we had a sense of predetermination a sense of in loss drawing in closer and in Aoi Hana we had complicated love triangles and never a scenario that would make everybody happy. As a result we had some tension, we could wonder what would happen next. With a title like Girl Friends, and the way it is set up.. as a slow burn we already know where the story will go beforehand.

The books clearly show us the chemistry between Akko and Mari so when obstacles appear they don’t feel serious. It’s just an obstacle before the two inevitably come together. At one point Mari take up a boyfriend to get over Akko as she thinks it is an impossible love.  We see Akko beginning to get jealous and she realises she is in love with Mari as well, as Mari got jealous when Akko spend time with others, but this whole arc with Mari’s boyfriend lasts very long! Which made me struggle heavily to finish this manga’s second half.

The manga tells us a lot of stuff we already know. This is in part because of how strong the first half is. It really tells us all we need to know trough short and cute stories. Where the manga is really strong is that these dates and events the characters go on are far apart. Throughout five volumes  we go to several years in school. A single chapter can be as short as a day but also span an complete diet over the course of a month. As such it really feels like time is spent together and these bonds are deepend. We only get the highlights and lows out of their story which makes those feelings of love that more real.

However as soon as Mari start seeing this old classmate she gave chocolate once it feels like we stagnate.Her reactions feel odd, and as if the Milk .. (I love that name) just added a few more chapters to be dramatic and to highlight both love each other..but we did not need that spelled out. We see Akko subconsciously feels that same way through ample other actions. It is as if we play a Sonic game zooming trough our adventure and in the middle we have to stop dead in our tracks to play a fishing minigame… no one would ever do that because it just feels wrong.

The Sheets

I hated the third volume of this Manga it nearly made me quit! But I had to find a Waifu. Up until the third part i thought I would choose to end up Mari. Akko is your typical girly girl, who has make-up tips looks pretty, she is your typical popular girl. In the first two volumes she can come across as fairly shallow and ditzy without much care in the world.
Mari is the opposite, she is news to this world of having friends and being girly. She is looking for meaning in things and deeper tries to find deeper messages in shallow acts. On paper I would pick a girl like Mari. anyday normally. Yet as we moved into the second half  I began to like Mari less and less. At first I see a strong woman who knows what she wants .. but later I see a woman who hides what she wants. Someone who adapts. Akko stays Akko throughout the show, she makes some realisations about herself but she is consistently written and a lot less shallow than she pretends to be.

During the closing volume Akko and Mari get intimate for the first time together, a scene which was quite cute, neither turn to have much experience. Akko tried to be with boys before but something never felt right. Things didn’t work out for her when it came to boys and she doesn’t really seem interested in them. As a result this situation is new to her without it being entirely new. Mari had no experience and the two of them together results in a adorable but realistic first timey experience. Yet also in this I love the role of Akko more. She can be really mature about her situation.

Akko is a type of person who does want she wants, when she wants it and will take responsibility for what she does. She loves going to McDonalds for example and will go on a diet to lose that weight .. time and time again. She doesn’t quit McDonalds or Mister Donut though because she wants that as well. If eating her favorite donut a few times each year means she have to diet in some places she is willing to do it and I can respect that.  Mari decides on a different career path.. she wants to become a nutritionist so she can give her girlfriend a more balanced way of living. However that isn’t her .. that is her reacting to something.. and that is what put me off for Mari in this series.

Mari is a recreational character, when she kisses Akko (twice) she doesn’t own up to it.. in fact she starts to see negative outcomes and just tries to ignore the situation. She is constantly trying to do what seems “least harmful” to her and her environment. It is a trait I find rather obnoxious , even more so since she so oftenly jumps to a very wrong conclusion.  A few of her actions, like replacing her phone strap (why are those such a thing anyway) feel spiteful, even if she doesn’t intend it and has her reasons it still doesn’t feel justified. 

I never had that feeling with Akko, she has flaws but they are never used wrong… Akko is Akko. Mari is several incarnations of herself, which is fine and somewhat real .. but it is not something I like in a person.  So my date from this series is Akko.

Girl’s Night!

As a manga this series is not something I can fully recommend. It’s a cute read but there are a few flaws that hold it back. The manga holds a bit to many panels per pages for my taste and there can be a lit of girls bickering on a single panel. That does indeed feel very girly but it can be a tad difficult to follow. Mari takes a turn for the worse midway the series and if you are used to how awesome she is  that can sting a bit. That being said though it tells a very cute and realistic tale of girls in high school. Doing the typical teenage live. It has a very western feeling to it. Aside from Tamanin , who is a closet Otaku, all the girls care for is going out, cute clothes, alcohol and more things that would be on a “normal” girl’s mind.

It is nice to see a story from Manga that is more grounded and less floaty. It is an enjoyable Manga you really need to be in the mood for. You know how this story will end and the road towards the destination is necessarily bumpy. Yet to relive your childhood, or if you want a snackish little romance manga, just expecting a romance .and taking it at face value this Manga is a super cute past time! Compare it to a girl’s pajama party. You feel all happy and dreamy, yet at one point you are gonna ask yourself how much longer do you need to stay up. The day after.. you do not have any epic stories to tell as nothing really happened..but you had a swell evening all the same.

Now my return to Manga wasn’t stellar but I still had a good enough time! Plus some sweet innocent dreams. Have you read this one? Do you have any recommendations for me to read? Do you perhaps think I should have picked Mari? I really want Akko because I am really bad at painting my nails and she could give me tips. Anyway no matter what girl I will pick remember that I love you all, keep positive and stay smiling

Pinkie the Trope-Doctor: The “Break Up”

We all are familiar with tropes. Every serie uses them, if they say they don’t they lie. No series is without these golden geese that resonate with so many people and that can be told so many times over. Yet sometimes we are discovering tropes that we really are beginning to dislike. “Again?” we ask when we see them. We do not enjoy them  and display some respiratory phenomena called sighs! Yet clearly there are people who still love these tropes! Otherwise people would not use them anymore! So how do we address these issues? We could blatantly hate on them sure.. but how about we try to fix them. How can we adapt a trope that  no longer works for us into something that does without taking away from other people? I shall strap my little had with a cross on top on.. and view one of my least like tropes. The Break up

The Patient

So what exactly do I mean with the break up? It is a trope that features highly in many shows and movies. I am not talking about official romantic break-up , I am talking about when a main cast has a falling out, squabbles and decides not to hang out any more for whatever reason. This trope is highly present in basically any “monster of the week”  type shoes, like Magical Girls, Sentai even in plenty of mecha and fantasy show. The trope usually has one character overhear or catch wind of something another character said..oftenly without context. It could also be a rivalry that is beginning to form.. for example both characters realising they are into the same guy. This trope seems to occur faster and more often across female characters but male characters and non binaries will be affected too. This can even affect animals or robots at time showing the problem might be bigger than a pure psycho emotional reaction. The breakup usually is displayed in one of three forms.

-The Misunderstanding: “I wish A  would be a bit braver” says character B to C when A just was about to come in carrying cupcakes. A thinks they think of him/her as weak .. drops the cupcakes and runs away.  The conversation continues and B tells C “She should just tell her mother he wants to come with the lake to us, we would have so much fun together’ When they find the cupcakes and something is Awry B and C try to talk to A..the latter annoys them by attacking them personally and now tensions are high and the group is split apart.

-The Squabble: On Valentines Day Character A B and C all hand chocolate to douchebag D.. who doesn’t acknowledge any of their love and just thanks them all for the chocolate. Completely unaware that they will never get the D they argue who has the most right to be with D as the split up. Usually this will result in just about every petty wrongdoing they ever did to each other being brought up. “You give me the coldest tea always” “that one time you did not say thank you when I rearranged your plushies for you” usually followed by a “I knew you always hated me!” which is often met with a sarcastic acknowledgment..because why talk things trough right away?

– The Manipulation: Evildoers finally figure out they can not beat the good guys because they work so well as a team, so they transform into classmates and walk up to person B and go like “hey have you heard that A said this about you” , before person B can march to person A to find answers a disguised bad guy is telling some bad rumors the other way around as well, somehow despite knowing each other very well the two do not believe they did not trash talk each other.. and fight.

These are of course generalised situations that however depict vividly how a situation would be. While some of the factors involved may very in the core these are the three main manifestations of the trope. More presently in “episodic” storytelling but also present in any other long running story that focus heavily on companionship.

The Problem

Now what exactly is the trouble with this trope you may ask? Strife and sorrow can indeed stimulate empathie between two individuals involved. It can create stronger bonds and reactions as well function as a mirror into a character’s psyche to highlight any flaws or desires. These form problems that can not be achieved through the conventional problem solving techniques of the hero dus create a more dimensional story. Hence the break-up should by all means be a beneficiary story telling device. However many, MANY anime have not been able to produce these effects. In fact it may result in a uninvested audience, a forced narrative and a blemish on previously written material. This trope is usually not used in episodes that are very relevant to the main plot, which results in ample problems as described below.

But first let me take a VIcodin! Nom!

No Tension: Most instances of a Break-Up usually do not exceed the length of a single episode. This means the deterioration of bonds, the breaking incident, the solo flight as well as the inevitable reunion make little to no impact on any of the major narrative.  These break-ups are near always finite in time and the audience can tell if this is the case. At least if the audience is neither a child nor stupid. Usually episodes are titled something like “broken bonds.. our group is now trough” already telegraphing what kind of episode it will be .. thusly after the open credits the audience already knows how the full 20 minutes will go.

Throwaway Events:  Another symptom of a bad break up is usually.. the level of relevance to the rest of the show.  The Status Quo usually isn’t any different at the beginning of such an episode compared to how it us after the episode. As such it might as well not have happened at all. Characters usually go back from great friends to hating each other to great friends again. Very rarely do they use this trope to improve.. or even less often deteriorate that bond.

Don’t be like Indy! Matter to your story!

Inconsistent Characters:  The Break-Up tends to be a force of nature that is very negative in nature. No matter how good trust is between characters this trope will activate anyway. Reasonable characters suddenly get extremely fickle and  childish and the sweet girl suddenly can’t find an ounce of kindness in her heart. Even when the world is at stake.. boys somehow weigh heavier upon girls hearts and more of this nonsense. Characters oftenly change and change back to fit the limited narrative of a single episode just to bounce back after seeing a plushie, a flower or a phone strap triggering memories. 

You trust a stranger who tries to steal your ring three times, you trust a serial killer who tried to kill you.. but when your friend eats the bread… he can go to hell!

All things considered this trope does not only waste an otherwise enjoyable 20 minutes it also is to the detriment of long running characters. It is hard to understand why a guy suddenly distrusts his best friends after seeing him with a few crumbs on his shirt. We can justify it and say.. his mind was poisoned by that item and that druggy looking fellow yet it still is a stab through the heart. We see their friendship build up as an unbreakable thing and than the most unlikely character destroys it in the most unlikely way and because we all know this chase in behavior won’t stick we just dislike the characters for being so stupid to buy into this.

Oh no same colour scheme.. guess the world can save itself now?!

The Solution

So how do we fix this? The simplest solution would be simply to add weight. But how can we do this in the oftenly breezy shows where this trope is featured in? We could simply let one get “killed” in their powerless state with others having to find a replacement but this would not be very satisfying.  It would also be to grim of a decision and invalidate the break up right away .. because there is nothing to fix or grow over anymore. Yet in some cases it can still work. In scenarios where there is an unequal level of relevance of the characters the less relevant character can be killed of in such a way.. in order for the main character to focus on that pettiness that ended up getting their compatriot killed. Still this would be a too extreme reaction to fix the trope. However the shake the trope up a bit .. the final break up would be a good solution.

A less obvious way is to let the break up stick for a while. Do not tell this story in a single episode. Make sure the heroes still have a way to progress without the character. Give them a replacement.. a character that knows about their secret identity that can take up the mantle of the character that quit. That magical girl.. gets replaced by another one. This other character can be made to be a temporary one.. perhaps the powers do not agree well with her, perhaps the new character is actually a betrayer, it can even be as simple as the new character only being in town for a few days or simply not being good enough. 

By not showing a character for a few episodes we can start to miss them, we can appreciate the character that was there and see how we don’t want it replaced. You can show a lack of synergy in the new format, to highlight what has come before. You can see the outcast element coming to terms with what happend, missing being a hero or realizing where they were wrong in an arc rather than an episode. Despite that we would know how it would end , the new element can still allow us to tell a multitude of stories that impact everyone involved and make for a memorable story line. 

Be like Pokémon.. Use a Substitute!

Another way this trope can be improved is by simply moving it earlier in the lifetime of a show. A group fighting only eight episodes in after barely getting to know each other is fairly realistic.  A group having a falling out over something as simple as boys after losing loved ones together, a group squabbling over something petty 23 episodes into a series near it’s finale makes no sense. Early in a series this trope can be used to define a bond between characters. Perhaps this event can trigger a deeper trust as they were forced to overcome their differences together to deal with a new threat.. but t could also be used to keep a dissonance between two or more people that perhaps has to be solved across numerous episodes. Perhaps one girl was really hurt by the mistrust that was shown at her and she doesn’t feel as much a part of the group due to that discussion in episode 8, not feeling like she is good enough for the group, limiting her powers in episodes 15 where she fails and episode 19 where she overcomes it. 

PreCure uses this trope very early! Episode 8 in the first series and later even episode 2!

Treatment

What is very important for the health of this trope is that we do not employ it to filler style episodes. This trope has to show some character development and needs some time to breath to reach its full potential. Rome is was not build in a day, and you can not make a character’s departure from the group relevant in ten minutes of screentime.  It simply does not work like this. While the trope has the side effect of a bad taste in your mouth, applying it earlier in the lifespan of a show will make sure the taste is properly washed away without any salty feelings from the viewership, we can not condemn a character we do not know yet after all.

Episode 2 Break Ups .. best break ups!

It is recommended that the show does not use this trope past the midway point for single season series.  It would negate to much of what the show has tried to build in that single season. For longer running series the recommended dosage is never more than once per season and not more than once per two seasons. We do not like on and off again partnerships  as it makes our heroes oftenly feel shallow and fickle. When this trope is applied more than once it has to be in increasing gravitas as incidents of a similar level will once again invalidate character growth. A clever writer can use decreasing seriousness if he wants to emphasis a constantly souring bond between characters however in this latter scenario this break up would most likely lead to a permanent goodbye as applying miracle fixes is just as character invalidating as miracle fighting. Give characters at least two to three weeks to recover for optimale presentation.

Not a great example of the trope! But I blanked out! We know they still love each other!
