The Biggest Pokémon Fan Game Pinkie Ever Played: Pokémon Rejuvenation

Hello again my sweet island guests! Yes this will be my second post of the day!  As we will do that now!.. Not always but I am for it!  While I try to do an animini each day I will also try to keep up my regular content…with the option to more freely skip one of my bigger posts here and there! So strangely one to two posts a day is most likely going to be less work! Those hours saved I can invest in this Pokémon Fan Game I have been playing! Pokémon Rejuvenation.

Pokémon What?!

Pokémon Rejuvenation is a HUUUGE pokémon fan game from the creators of Pokémon Reborn.. that Pokémon game with hookers, suicides, murders and pokémon being tossed into acid. While I loved the game for it’s dark tones, in hindsight Pokémon Reborn might have been a bit needlessly Edgy. Having a criminal team member cut a gym leader in half is fine and all.. but tossing her pokémon in the volcano and forcing her bisected upper half to watch her pokémon melt.. was a bit much.  Seeing a gym leader lose it all after alianating his daughter is fine.. and then him commting suicide ..does bring awareness that these are actual humans sure… but having his corpse plummet into the room of his daughters best friend, who then goes catatonic and put into an Asylum where she recieves Electroshock therapy by electric pokemon torturting her… might be overdoing it a bit.

Rejuvenation gives us the pleasure of having a slightly more “contained” story.  There still are deaths….but they are more so implied. The game brings some elements of magic to the story. People using the power of Arceus for themselves, people finding abilities through ancient spells to compete with pokémon a bit and people utilizing the more advanced technology and pokemon powers more into their everyday lives. Thus this game becomes more like a classical Pokémon story but made for an adult demographic. You play a main character that is significantly older than 10 years old as well and more in 16 year old to young adult range. In this game your mother gets kidnapped by a cult and the ship you are on gets sunk by the evil Team Xen. This attack seems to tie into you or your mother.. but you have no idea why!  There is also a connection to a sacrificial and apocalyptic cult that sends people to Arceus..for this world is certainly doomed. A young girl is trapped to relive this cycle of being sacrificed over and over again…but maybe in your generation she fights back.

Like in Reborn you can choose your own prefix and He/Him, She/Her, They/Them , separately from your avatar. This is always nice, though only important characters will really address you as the correct gender. Most characters will address you Gender neutral… which is still better than the endless being called him of other fan games. The game also has another big advantage over it’s older brother and that is… EASY mode.  Yes I know. .. that sounds like a babies way out but if you ever played Reborn and like me do not want to have to IV and EV train everything and carry 18 different teams and level them up.. this is a godsent.. and while the game indeed is easy compared to Reborn, next to the official Pokémon games easy mode still provides more than a challenge. With many special field types like in reborn affecting your attacks.. it still provides plenty of chances to be tactical for you and your enemies. With some confidence I can say that this is THE Pokémon Fan game for Adults…maybe next to Pokémon Fire Red Rocket Edition.

The Trainers

That is a lot of praise for me to give to a game I haven’t even completed yet. However after spending over 60 hours in the game, and probably over 70 by the time you read this, I have a fairly good impression what this game is about. one of its major strengths are it’s characters. During your journey you encounter a lot of trainers that seem to be based on the archetypal pokémon characters.  For example there is one boy who really wants to be the very best.. like no one ever was… but he doesn’t really have the skill to back it up. As a result he gets into a lot of trouble and is disillusioned and somewhat bitter. We encounter him a few times and we have to make choices…at one point we face a Gymleader of a xenophobic town.. she staged a play to show that outsiders can be powerful and inspiring.. right before the battle we face and defeat him and get a choice whether or not to let him face the gym leader before us. However there is too much at stake.. an entire town might never trust outsiders if we let the boy go first.  So we have to step on his dreams.

Then there is the poison gym leader called Venam. She is a brash girl living with her mother..but she is extremely loud and a bit Tsundere, we see how in a way she is similar to the character of Misty but instead of being an anime character we do get a lot of exposition on why she is the way she is. We get motivations that interest us in her as an adult. She tries to break free of her mold.. but that results in her mother kicking her out.  She has to deal with things like an adult.. like how is she going to survive and pay for food. All of it contributes to her character. We also have a battle girl whose father works for the criminal team. We see her believes being shaken and see her go on a journey  that fits someone who is on such a journey…much more than just doing the gym challenge she is doing her journey as a little soul search. Then there is you as the character. While you do not have THAT much development the way your journey across the gyms is being done is great. You are facing an evil organisation..of tremendous power.. you do not take the Pokémon Journey to be the champ.. no you use that journey as a measuring stick for your abilities. To see if you are good enough to face those who wronged you!

The game offers you a few moral choices which influence the world around you to an extent. Most of it is by experiencing the story but the game also offers you a subquest  system. For example you have to deliver a love letter from one guy to another.. and include medicine.. However if you are like me and are too poor to do the quest at that time you end up seeing them becoming friends rather than lovers. A psychic girl who has powers akin to those of trainers in the main games.. can’t help but abuse her powers, they corrupt her to an extent.. not into a bad person.. but into a different one all the same. Each location you visit and all important people you encounter have logic behind them. A city close to the woods is built from Lumber, a city worshipping Giratina over Arceus has found themselves being the subject of religious persecution in the past.. however while the rest of the world grew up.. and grew past their old bosses these people never could. We really get a WORLD we treat trough.. not just a map!  We even get Shadow Pokémon you can snag and purify! So it just about brings everything Pokémon ever offered in a single cohesive world as well.

The Pokemon

This game uses the classical pokémon up to generation VII , so no Galar Pokémon… right now.. the game is still being updated so who knows they might arrive soon! Some Galar music already made it into the game.  Much like Reborn the game introduces some new Mega Evolutions and their own variety for story events called Breach Pokémon. These are pokémon from a different Dimension that function like boss encounters throughout the game. Movesets of Pokémon have been slightly altered to be less “broken” and not give you access to anything overpowered early game. Sometimes enemies get their own signature moves. For the most part though they do remain the same. This does mean that to an extend you can use Serebii to help you build a team to encounter some obstacles. However that is not the way I like to play it.. because this game also has custom shinies. These are VERY well done shinies and almost all are unique and vibrant.. you’ll WANT to see a shiny and you can.. because shiny encounter rates are at almost 1/100.. compared to 1/8192.  So I play this game using only shines.. I only hunt the first I find per route and then I have to move on.. easy mode allows me to play this way and I am having a blast discovering these new forms.

Trade evolutions have been fixed and as you go along pokémon get increasingly higher base stat totals.  Which means that if you have a new shiny.. you’ll most likely want to put it on your team and some of your old one end up phasing out.  With the exception of a few statics here and there ..(which are pokémon you can see in the overworld and can only encounter once)  you slowly upgrade your team, your flying bug type vivillon gets traded in for the flying fire type Talonflame.  Your Ambipom gets traded in for a Traveller and so on. You are constantly upgrading your team and even though this game features a lot of mandatory grinding the high shiny encounter rate and the fact that you are always upgrading keeps the game fun.  With the difficulty on easy you can still use Pokémon you really like..as long as it isn’t Shuckle or Dunsparce ,yet you are very much encouraged to have a team larger than six. You swap out your pokémon, and to facilitate this there are pokémon switching stations everywhere! To help you train new team members or give you a more tactical advantage.

Grinding is made very doable by giving you access to a speed up mode, and high level wild encounters. In fact most wild encounters have higher levels than the trainers you encounter. The trainers however use more solid strategies. Each gym caps your level at a certain point after which in easy you can’t progress and on higher difficulties makes your Pokémon rebel against you…which you can undo by feeding them reverse candy. So you can not over-level either way. While it is pretty doable to level your main team with story content, if you need a specific pokemon or encounter an upgrade to your team you  can grind those up within a few minutes. You get the Exp Share early and grass encounters give plenty of XP so the creatures in this world really fit and facilitate the game.  Habitats also make sense if you know the pokémon. For example inside cities you will encounter doves, cats and trash eating pokemon, while the wooden cottage type of village has plenty of bugs. It does do better with this logic than the actual games so hey good on them! And if you don’t like hunting Pokémon.. there are a fair few achievements you can hunt to buy battle items for your Pokémon.

The Atmosphere

So this game provides a great and vibrant world, that feels much more like a living pokémon world than most officially produced worlds, with exception for stuff like Twilight Wings for example,  and they offer the perfect biological diversity in that world to be exactly the game they want to be.  This is Pokémon for adults. This is also reflected in just about everything else.  The music is stellar, recomposed tracks from all the other games, but those rethreads are amazing and SO atmospheric.  The controls are the standard RPG maker controls that are used for just about every other fan game I ever played, with a few extra conveniences such as a soft reset button and up to four registered items being assigned to the F-Keys. The game expects a certain type of player, someone who is passionate about pokémon and geekdom in general and it facilitates towards that rather than offering full on accesibility. Which is great… this is a fan game.. out on the internet for free.

My Graveler’s shiny pattern for example is based on Steven’s Universe, other shinies refer to some other products geeks will likely have seen or at least heard of. There is a museum in the game and the art on the walls are Gen I sprites of Pokémon.  Dialogue has subtle references to movies , anime or other geeky matters without being too obnoxious and  in  your face. Everything this game does oozes that is is made for people like me. It takes a heavy pro LBGTQ stance with you encountering many gay or bisexual characters and it being made a non issue. We get no Big Gay Al, or a gay couple getting better treatment in the story than other characters.. they are just a part of the world. It all has a great atmosphere, almost as if you are at a convention.. as a geek you understand all these characters, either from a cosplayers perspective or deeper down.

The game manages to use technology in a much more sensible manner than the regular pokemon games. Spinny panels are a thing.. but they exist not as a puzzle in this world they exist as a security measure.. they send you over an electric surface that will paralyse you if you do not know the password to turn it off.. or an alarm tile.. will not just send a pokemon towards you..it will get you captured. Gameplay and atmosphere are interwoven in this game. A puzzle never is there just for the puzzle’s sake. If a pokemon traps you in their lair and you have to do a jump puzzle.. it’s not just doing a jump puzzle.. it’s the collapsed area of an old passage that said pokémon have turned into a place for them to play it’s layout exisits for a reason in game as well. Often the game answers these things right about as questions pop in your head, this game knows the kind of person you are and uses that to deliver a potent package.

The Negatives

The game isn’t perfect, there are a few minor issues such as the fact that during a puzzle with some followers you are able to trap yourself.. if you save it then and there you might have to restart the game. I also experienced slowdown during my shiny hunts  if I was watching a youtube video alongside it.. so while it’s not a big issue.. this game really wants you to shiny hunt and not being able to have something to distract you can be tedious with longer encounter strings.  The game doesn’t always play fair some bosses see, to use gen I like AI that chose moves based on your input. Gym Leaders often have custom moves that can at times be brokenly OP if you do not have an encounter. Yet these are all very minor issues.

One bigger issue I have though is the lack of a journal. Where regular games are mostly a track from A to B and then to C and so on… this game has a lot of “Did you hear that Venam was training with a new move” kind of hints. Oftenly these lines are only ushered once so if you come out from a battle with speed up on and you miss an important line of dialogue there is NO way to retrieve it and find out where you need to go next.  This would be fine if you did not have to backtrack as much as you do. You do visit old cities on a regular basis and thus your next step can be anywhere around the HUGE world map.  So it’s best to keep a little notepad lying around if you do not play regularly. Nothing would suck as bad as forgetting you have to speak to this person two towns back next time you play.. and then a week later you forget.

Another issue I did encounter more then once is that some NPC’s are placed in front of objects you need to interact with. I am not sure if this is a part of the puzzle because if you look REALLY well you can just barely make out a few strange pixels behind said character but it would be quite a stretch to call it noticable. There game has a forum where you can search or ask for answers but the player base isn’t THAT big, you could be stuck for a while.  Some characters require materials like Shards as payment like the difficulty adjusting guy you can meet in the first town..however it’s not made very clear that he needs shards. He says he can give you a free difficulty change the first time.. so if you think Easy is to simple you can switch..but if you are like me and then realise that Normal is so much harder to a point it’s not as fun for me… you can not change it back until you obtain shards after the fifth gym. Luckily I had not saved since changing .. .but the game can be obnoxiously vague!

The Score

I still think the Rom Hack of Pokémon Rocket Edition is better for the hardcore pokémon fan, the little insights in the official story is much more appealing to everyone, this is much more a do your own thing  kind of situation where they basically create a whole new alternative world with pokémon.  I do very much enjoy that myself but it is a bit “novel”-like  there is a lot to read and not a lot of reading you can skip either. Since these people talk like normal humans they will not neatly end with the line where to go next. They will say bye.. or thanks for helping out last… which will be the line on repeat so prepare to read!

The flaws it has though in no way hold a candle to the great atmosphere it has, the briljant way everything seems to be connected and the almost flawless pokémon/world design.. I mean Pokémon design as in.. who lives where. This is definitely a treat to play for both inexperienced as well as experienced trainers IF you at least manage to comprehend the typing chart a little bit.  This game treats you like a gamer.. like someone who is capable of forming a strategy and using their obtained knowledge of pokemon in a meaningful manner. This is a pokémon game for me… and I can even play a girly trainer with pink hair!
This is THE game for me! This is Pokémon for adults… playing it does feel rejuvenating.

Arceus: The Pokémon God

Greetings young trainers, Professor Pinkie  here , after a two week Hiatus I am finally back to teach you a bit about pokémon again. Today we will talk about religion in the pokémon world.. and the single deity everyone in this world worships. The Alpha and the Omega of the Pokémon world Lord Arceus.

The Omnipotent

Good day dear sir/madam/person do you have a minute to talk about our lord and saviour Arceus?  There really is a lot to talk about. Introduced in the fourth generation of Pokémon as a mythical Pokémon. At first it seemed like a bit of a generic pokémon that tied in heavily with the so called creation trio. The creation trio were the Pokémon Palkia , representing space, Dialga representing time and Giratina representing chaos or antimatter. These represented pokemon Pearl, Diamond and Platinum respectively. Yet we found out there was a pokémon above them Arceus, the creator of Sinnoh. In retrospect it became clear that people .. rightfully so were worshipping this pokémon. Yet it wasn’t that strange to find out that a Pokémon was responsible for the creation. Yet on a closer look, this had a much larger impact than people initially had thought.  In subsequent games it was revealed that people in Johto also worshipped Arceus and in ancient times Arceus also created the island of Ransei.

Ransei was a region shaped entirely like Arceus itself and housed 17 kingdoms of samurai warlords including the great Nobunaga. If Arceus was worshipped throughout the world and it could even create islands in it’s own image.. perhaps he was more than JUST the creator of Sinnoh It does make sense that the being that created time and space created everything. The theme of being all-powerful is quite interwoven with Arceus from the get go. Arceus depending on how it’s depicted either is said to have every type (it’s depicted in it’s own movie as such)  being able to switch types (the anime) or being every possible type depending on a held item (the video games). An argument is easily made to disqualify the view of the games due to technical and balancing limitations. After all, Omni Type Arceus would have seven immunities and would only really be weak to rock type moves, which aren’t THAT present  in the battling scene. Most mythical pokémon are only released after a movie about them triggers an event or the event promotes the movie so it is a safe bet to take the movie’s depiction as their intended vision of the actual character. Reinforcing the belief of an almighty pokemon. The games , though bound by balance try to confirm this in their own way by giving Arceus the highest base stat total (let’s compare it to a dragon ball power level)  at 720. Respectively Mewtwo .. the runner up has only 680. Though the latter can overpower god with his mega evolution and moveset. Arceus is also the only pokémon that can learn the move Judgement. Now that seems like some divine intervention to me. In the anime it’s shown watching from above in dangerous situations when it needs to .. wielding several typings.. to intervene if it has to.. choosing an advantageous type.

Theology

Now Giratina might be a pokémon that is older than Arceus itself but things get a little vague. Cynthia and a nameless hiker that can be found exploring Sinnoh on multiple occasions are our biggest source of exposition on our one true god. Pokémon at least answers the question what came first the chicken or the egg. Answer THE EGG.  At first the wonderful world of Pokémon was nothing but pure and primal Chaos… which may or may not be Giratina already existing, when suddenly an egg appeared in the midst of it. When the egg tumbled from the vortex it gave rise to the original one. Since Arceus here is referred as the original one it would seem like it is the first pokémon yet chaos already existed so it’s somewhat unclear.  To create Order.. from itself Arceus created two beings.. (though unnamed in this story they refer to Palkia and Dialga) as time began to flow and space began to expand (Palka represents space and Dialga is the pokemon of time).

(Palkia Giritina and Dialga)

Later Arceus created 3 living things.. that wished for it and so spirits came to be. These three living things would be identified as the lake guardians Azelf, Mesprit and Uxie.

Even though the story the hiker tells us ends there as it states that Arceus went to sleep after creating the Lake Trio iit is pretty commonly accepted, if not confirmed, that Arceus also created Mew (who created all non legendary pokémon) as well as other creation pokémon like Groudon and Kyogre and Rayquaza (who created land and water and air). Arceus is believed to have created all legendary (and mystical) pokémon or at least created the legendary every pokemon can be traced back to Arceus… with the exception of Ultra Beasts which are like the eldritch beings of the pokémon world. Cases can be made for Time, Space Chaos and Spirit creating the rest yet the limited typing of the 5 Arceus factually created makes people more inclined to think Arceus had a bigger hand in this.

Theorycrafting is more Detective Pinkie’s thing.. so we will not delve to much further into who created what. I simply wished to highlight two fairly common streams of belief.  Now the mythos of Arceus seems very similar to the shinto religion. Arceus is said to have created everything at the location of the spear pillar. In Shinto religion there is a god named Amenominakanushi, whose name is much too to type again, was the first god that came into existence by itself. The name roughly translates to something like divine ancestral deity that is the originating heart of the universe. So yeah… I am nicknaming it First-First. So when First-First plopped into existence he created Izanagi and Izanami.. a brother and sister who ‘loved each very much’.  Aside from playing with her brothers spear..Izanami actually had another spear, which the two used to stir the chaotic sees to create the many islands of Japan though this required some more incest and pillar building for some reason. I guess it’s wincest after all. She ended up dying and becoming an evil deity after though ..so unsure.

While there are definitely some similarities with Shinto religion arceus connection to theology goes a lot deeper. If the player in the fourth gen Pokémon games has an Arceus on their team the man reveals he is actually a philosophy major who is researching the creation story.  On several locations he gives you the type changing plate items as well as some insight to Arceus story. At one point he says “When that spirit came to be, there followed awareness about the world. Within the Newborn spirit, time and space were intertwined as one, People and Pokémon where but the same presence’ Unlike Shintoism Arceus seems to have a lot more in common with a monotheistic views. There are a lot of hints towards christianity and judaism in their lore and symbolism. For example the Judaistic principle of Kabbalah has a symbol known as the Kaphtziel.

Some people of faith wore this symbol as a tribute to Cassiel, the angel of Saturn. Saturn the planet as you know is known by its rings. Arceus currently typing is depicted by it’s ring. Even more so followers of arceus carry their own symbol that looks A LOT like that symbol the Kabbalah used. Too much to be purely incidental.

Yet this is not the only symbol that is used to identify Arceus with. There is also a circle inside a triangle that is seen in the Pillar.

Cynthia has her visions on how these symbols symbolize Arceus and the creation trio.. as well as the roles the lake guardians play in the story, and of course she is not incorrect. The gear symbols refer to space and time.. which was later reestablished in the pokémon mystery dungeon games. Leaving the third one to be giratina represented by the triangular symbol.

Yet once more this symbol is eerily similar to a thing tied to yet another religion. Christianity! The symbol is a spot on match for the Shield of trinity. Depicting the holy trinity of father son and holy ghost with god sitting in the middle. Though it might be inverted it still is pretty  much spot on. I would be willing to believe it was a coincidence if but one religion shared some symbology, but three separate cases of religion? That seems a bit unlikely.. but you can judge for yourself.

Alchemy and Philosophy.

Pokémon HEAVILY relies on a few alchemic concepts throughout their mythos and Arceus is no different. Let’s begin with kicking in a open door it’s golden ring. Arceus literally has the ability to turn his circle gold. Now.. Arceus ring..  is a circular shape with crosses on it. This has nothing to do with christianity but everything with alchemy. Ladies gentleman and other readers let me introduce you to the alchemical symbol for lead.

Pretty right, though it might not be directly linkable to Arceus ring.. their shape is kind of similar. Now before you crucify me for overreaching here.. because the symbol is not THAT similar.. Lead in alchemy is considered as the original metal.. the first into existence.. like Arceus. Still reaching for straws? Well remember that jewish symbol that looked a lot like Arceus religious symbol? The Kaphtziel.. that represents Saturn.. and guess what planet in alchemy is connected to lead in alchemy? That is right Saturn!

(I totallly wanna buy this )

Now I will come back to the links with Alchemy in a bit, but saturn returns once more in the mythos about our divine pokémon and to explain that we will have to delve into some greek philosophy first. Alchemy is part of what is called Western Esoteric Tradition a collective name for many doctrines which also include Astrology and Kabbalah for example. Like pokémon all come from Arceus every doctrine in the WET share roots in the Neoplatonic Philosophy works of Plotinus.  This philosopher described The One in his work as someone consisting of three aspects. The divine mind which was the impulse for creation, the physical reality in which matter and multiplicity exists and the Soul World or Anima Mundi which is quite complex but basically can be described as the force that actual makes things happen.

(Anima Mundi depiction)

Now returning to our dear hiker’s story.. the chaos was Arceus impulse to create the world. The creation of space can easily be tied to the physical reality, and though  the Anima Mundi is way more complex than anything in the pokémon world it is basically the engine that makes things happen.. much like time. Now when we remember the hikers words ‘When the new born spirit came to this world time and space were intertwined as one.  People and Pokémon where but the same presence. This does seem to be applicable to Arceus and Plotinus ideas. With the new born spirit resembling the principles of the divine mind very closely and the intertwined existence being a manifestation of both the anima munda as the physical reality.  Now this concept has been utilized in both Alchemy as well as the Kabbalah by their Tree of Life. A upside down tree.

(Seems like Thanos would like this tree as well)

Paracelsus (whose name sounds like a battery)  was a alchemist in medieval times who also used this tree. The roots on the higher level represent gods coming into existence from nothing.. quite like Arceus. Then in the second phase , whose details I shall spare this tree begins to emanate a light that is slowly moving down the tree.. the life energy leaking into the material realm. Granting it souls.. to make it go round.. making things move as it were. The lower level is just plainly the physical level. But Paracelsus described a plain of existence that as it were is a border between the physical reality and the astral plane. A level of the astral plane that was so dense it can basically manifest in the Malkuth.. or the physical plane. He called this form of existence ARCHEUS. Now Arceus is a pokémon.. it materially exists..sort off not always.. it can cross between those layers. So the intangible pokémon only exists to us.. when it’s in the ‘Acheus’. Now.. since battery-bloke was an alchemist things seem to come together quite nicely yet earlier I told you that before returning to alchemy teachings I still had to tell about a link with saturn right?  Well.. the Archeus in a fair few translations or subsidiary works is referred to as the path of Saturn. With so many references to Arceus ring.. we could deduce and hypothesise that the pokémon we know as the god is not goat or quilin like animal in the middle at all. Arceus the Pokémon.. might very well be the ring.. and that what we know was it’s true body might just be how it can manifest in the Archeus. For those who do not know, this is a Quilin vairant. Usualy more dragon like this one came closest to our god.

Now I  could go on and talk about the Azoth of Philosophers, the alchemic alphabet and their link to Unown script or the teachings about alchemical shapes, the principles of the lake guardians and Arceus impact on the human spirit and link that to Plotinus and other beliefs but let’s save that for another time, as it would involve a plethora of other pokémon I would need to explain as well, to fully finish Arceus tale. I would rather close off with some rather convincing proof that Arceus is indeed tied to alchemy.  In Pokémon Heartgold and Soulsilver you can also encounter the Alpha Pokémon. This time you find him on YET another symbol since linked to it.. this one is vastly more complex.

Many people use this one to figure out which pokémon created which in the pokémon universe. Plopping in Pokémon at all the little dots. Though I have seen many convincing variations of this idea there is something else this picture very much resembles. Those who ever watched fullmetal alchemist might already have an idea what I am talking about. Arceus new symbol looks very close to a transmutation circle.. an insanely complex one but a alchemy circle nonetheless.

Now what not a lot of people know is that the outer circle is required for ritual but the shapes inside  tell you how complex the transmutation is.  The triangle is the simplest form and provides mind matter and energy… space replacing matter, time replacing energy and the determination to end chaos replacing mind in arceus case.  The triangle is outside the circle though symbolising they are infinite power Arceus has.. basically being its own philosopher’s stone, the interior patterns consists fully out of circles so iit is my belief that what we say in Pokémon HG/SS is Arceus transmutation circle for all existence The only circle fit for a god. Oh and Shiny Arceus is gold as well.. if you need more links!

So you see my eager little knowledge students, no matter what religion you follow, from christianity to judaism . From astrology believers too pseudo scientists, much like in the games there seems to be a type of Arceus for you. Explaining a god feels really good after this professor was forced to be absent for two weeks. Would you like to hear more about pokémon connected to alchemy?  Do you have suggestions for my next post? Do you want to pat me on the hat for all this research i’ve done? Let me know in the comments and remember!

I am not weird, just very pink!
Until we read again

Mewtwo: The pokemon that can defeat god!

A boop on your snoot little monsters! Nice to have you reading this post
Another Monday , another Mon-Day. Time to discuss another little beastie in depth.
Today I have chosen to pick at least one that is at least a favorite of one of my followers, but I do think there will be more fans out there. The pinnacle of human creations, Mewtwo.

Dark Origins
Mewtwo was the first “final” pokemon in our games, the anime and movies connected it highly to team rocket, and since at least in Europe we got the anime before we got the game, Mewtwo has always seem very ominous, but with a few misconceptions. Many believe that Team Rocket has created this Pokémon, but this isn’t true at all. The true creator of Mewtwo is Mr Fuji and his science team. Mister Fuji is that nice guy , you meet in lavender town, who ends up giving you his Pokéflute after you put Marowaks soul to rest. He has shown great care for Pokémon and even orphans in general. However, it turns out this sweet little old man, at least in the past, wasn’t that nice after all. He was involved in some shady business. Going on an expedition to capture mew, to obtain it’s dna  and from it create an embryo , which they would genetically alter to create the ultimate pokémon. The story here gets a bit vague as we have come conflicting sources, some claim that Mewtwo was grown in a testtube some say that Mewtwo was grown inside Mew, the manipulated embryo being placed back inside mew so it would carry it’s altered child. What we DO know for sure is that on the 6th of February Mewtwo was born.

The picture of the other birth was a bit to ikcy.

Research Disclaimer
Before I move any further, a little explanation on how things will be compiled.  Only sources set in at least a remotely similar world to the game will be used. Humans and Pokémon both have to live there, with pokeball technology being a thing. Any lore from for example the mystery dungeon universe or the mobile game Pokémon Quest..alongside any fan made games, are not taken into consideration. Conflicting variations will be reported, however for the sake of cohesiveness we will not consider alternate timelines. If the anime shows something that isn’t explored at all in the games, it will be the only thing we go on and use it to sketch our profile of Mewtwo without constantly mentioning which source says what.  That would not make this a fun read, nor would it tell us much about mewtwo if we only use one source. So let’s drop the judgment hammer and just enjoy a cool story about a cool pokémon.

Pinkie’s Science Seal of Approval

A living weapon
Mewtwo is a bipedal feline-human like pokemon of extraordinary power. It’s coloured in a  pale gray and purple colour scheme, it’s fingertips being balled as well as an appendix connecting his head to it’s lower back give it an alien like  and ominous appearance. The shiny variation of mewtwo holds a military/natural green colour similar to the shiny colours used on many purple Pokémon, Espeon possibly being the best comparison. Both purple and green looks succeed in giving mewtwo this incomprehensible, what the frizzestick is this kind of look.  You know when you see a Mewtwo something is not ‘right’ about it Which is completely true. Mewtwo in it’s very core has been designed to be “not right’. It was just designed to be the ultimate pokemon battler. This meant it had to be modified , to not have any compassion. That is exacyly what Mr  Fuji did, he created a pokémon with remorse or compassion, so it would never lose focus at the task at hand.
They also killed Mew’s free roaming spirit from it’s design. Where we see Mew as something that likes to play and fly around in swirls and loops and the likes, Mewtwo was modified to not move when not needed, to conserve all his strength for battle.
Think of it like designing a chicken but instead of making it happy it can walk, it just sits there focussing on laying eggs. Any offspring it would create it would not care for..because it’s detrimental to what it was actually made for… making eggs for consumption. This is basically what Mewtwo is designed to be ..an emotionless, organisms only designed to deliver a product, in this case..battle victory. A weapon, that may live, but never was meant to have a life.

My ex-mother-in-law used to have those eaxct same eyes!

Evil eliminator or misunderstood antagonist?
One would say the difference between the game and the anime would create the biggest lore conflict, however this is not the case when we try to understand Mewtwo’s story. Though the manga depicts him as much more gruesome then the more commonly accepted media, that is a style spread throughout the whole series. With Pokémon death or trainer death actually incurring on a semi-regular basis. The world in the anime is much more gruesome and everyone is adapted for it. Mewtwo as well, but though he may completely destroy Blaine’s arm, Mewtwo’s motivations seem to stay fairly true at the source. Mewtwo is NOT the person who we Westerners believe him to be. He actually isn’t THAT evil.  In the first Pokémon movie we see Mewtwo trying to destroy humanity with a large storm, his nihilistic cruel outlook on live , making him a classic archetype villain, the likes of Frieza from dragon ball Z for example. Only to have a change of heart when Ash dies.
However if we look at the “first” first Pokémon movie, we can see that this is actually not true.
‘But Pinkie, Mewtwo was the first first Pokémon movie!’ Yes.. dear reader you are right, however there is a MASSIVE difference between the japanese version, which outdates the western version. In the original version Mewtwo isn’t as evil He is a much more naive and conflicted pokemon that simply fails to feel any positive emotions, who is acting based on what he has seen so far. His motivations do not come from a deep hate of humankind, it stems more form a hate for those who harmed him and intents to stop the hurt people but pokemon trough. By force of course because that is all he knows.

Ash using a fighting move on a psychic type, and we wonder why he never became champion!

Human DNA
It is theorised that in order to make the ultimate Pokémon, it was infused with human DNA. The fact that Mewtwo looks a lot more human than Mew and the fact that there weren’t many  other human like pokemon, let alone in their league is pretty compelling evidence towards said theory. People also use the fact that he can speak “human” as evidence for the theory. However that last one is poppycock! Mewtwo talks to people through telepathy, one can easily argue that when you project an idea in someone’s mind it will always be in the language you speak..because your brain would translate the electric pulse into ideas for you.
Pokemon also seem to understand humans extremely well, since Ash can tell Pikachu to sit on a bench and do three  somersaults, with the latter actually proceeding to do it. So it makes sense Mewtwo can project the language regardless.
However if we go back to “good guy mr Fuji”  and a deleted scene from the movie, once more evidence arises. In this scene we see Mewtwo floating in a tank alongside clones of the Kanto starters. In yet another tank however there is a young girl, mewtwo speaks too with telepathy, or at least is implied too. The young girl to be Fuji’s passed away daughter who he is trying to clone back. However the other clones deteriorate and die, mewtwo being the only one to survive. Heh,  I wonder why they decided to cut this scene from a kids movie.
From this scene however it is clear that human dna at least was present in the experiment making it plausible at least. The final evidence comes later into the series, when Mewtwo Y was revealed as the first mega evolution. However Mewtwo was able to evolve himself, while everyone needs a human for that. Perhaps because it is part human?

So adorable, baby mewtwo talking to a dead(ish) child.

The power to defeat a god.
Speaking of mega-evolutions, when Mewtwo obtained the power to go even further beyond he became more mighty than the god of the pokemon world itself. He outclassed lord Arceus himself. The potential of a pokémon in the games is expressed in base stat totals.  It’s a number to reflect how much stats a pokémon has without the meddling of any IV”s and EV”s.
Though not fully correct, due to how IV’s work let’s compare this with, how strong are they without a trainer. Regular Mewtwo’s base stat total of 680 was rarely matched, let alone surpassed in the games. However when Arceus was introduced it had a base stat of 720, and for the next few years Arceus ruled supreme. When Callum and Serena (protagonists of X and Y)  found Mewtwonite X or Y, it all changed. Mega Mewtwo became the first pokémon to surpass the god. Nowadays only accompanied by Mega Rayquaza at a grand total of 780.
This would mean that a wild Mewtwo can take Arceus in a fight.  Arceus arguably does have access to all types, and thusly would be able to play the type advantage game to keep the fight balanced. However here is where it gets scary. If we consider it’s human DNA, it would potentially mean that Mewtwo DOES have access to EV’s. Because only trainer owned Pokémon are able to get them. Mewtwo functioning due to its dna as their own master. Eliminating IV’s for the sake of.. he would not be able to reset himself, it would only grant him the ability to use the additional 510! (this is why EV training is important kids) stat points gained from EV training. Effectively that COULD mean that should a fight between Mewtwo and Arceus ensue, Mewtwo comes in at a power level of 1290 versus Arceus 720. Mewtwo being nearly TWICE as strong as Arceus in that case. If Mewtwo really does have human DNA the implications of a monster without sympathy being out there could be truly terrifying

Dillema! I only got 1 Master Ball

It’s not alone
If you ask people what their favorite legendary Pokémon is, they would most oftenly say Mewtwo, though Marshadow  is bound to get plenty of votes as well, its soooo good and super cute. Though technically still correct, it turns out Mewtwo might not even be a legendary pokemon. It would have to be the only one of it’s kind for that status in my book.
‘Well Pinkie there is only one..the one that escaped from the Pokémon Mansion on Cinnabar island’ No it’s not. The detective Pikachu movie , shown another Mewtwo being made in Rhyme city. Even if we don’t consider that particular mewtwo, even though it’s strongly implied to be set quite a few years in the future from Red and Blue,  the anime and even the games imply there is more than one. The Mewtwo captured in Kalos is never claimed to be the same one Red would have captured, given it’s lore and the fact that Red would know how it is, it seems rather unlikely he would release a monster like that anyway. The anime as well also strongly implies there are multiple mewtwo’s, both in the movies as in the tv series itself. Since it’s a perfect clone it doesn’t seem too unlikely that people who still have the research could try it again, someone recreated it or even Mewtwo itself made more of itself to fufill it’s ambition. Who or whatever did this is unknown but there is very likely more than one godslayer out their, their name is Mewtwo. All thanks to that kind Mr Fuiji

*Insert Pillar Men Theme*

Number 150 is to interesting to talk about in general to discuss battle sets and the likes, hes’s pretty much banned in each battle format anyway. If you do want a good build for Mewtwo you are always free to ask in the comments. What Pokémon would you like to see in the spotlight?
Please leave a like to make my day a little better and don’t forget to stay pink.

Order and Chaos 2: Four priests and a blacksmith

Hello there my little monsters, welcome back to another installment of my fanfiction work “Pokemon Order and Chaos” , the second part of this series, Welcome to Wuqu, you can find by clicking on the name or by opening the fanfiction tab on the homepage. In the last episode we saw two priests of Alola, leading Team Oblivion travel to the “world of chaos’ where another criminal team.. or the very world they live in have to be stopped, in order to protect the regular Pokémon world.
But this new world was very different then their own, humans and pokemons are enemies rather than friends, with the ones people own being nothing more than tools. Professor Azalea took Luther and Nils into a waiting room, saying their new team members would be there shortly.

A rough wake-up call
William woke up from drooling on his own hand, his head hurt, what happened? Where was he even? The blond man in an ornate black robe looked through the room, it looked like a simple bedroom, in the middle there was an old tv sitting on a carpet a weird device was sitting in front of it, to his direct north there was a desk with a computer to his east there was a plant and some pokemon-dolls for some reason, and to the north east there was a door, with a keypad. Was he a prisoner? Who would capture a priest of Kōngjiān? He was a noble servant of the goddess C’ra, the lady of rainbows, though other fates in this world honoured the same god they all worshipped a different aspect of her, his one focussing on her kindness and goodness. He was a noble man, that never got in any trouble. Suddenly William began to remember, he received an envelope that he had been selected to be a Pokémon trainer,  tributes from every city would be selected and pitted against each other in teams, and the winning team would be welcomed into the safe zone. He did not want to join in, but with Neo Aether.. he guessed there was little choice. Deducing the envelope must have been laced with a knockout agent this feeling was now more enforced then ever. That was the exact moment William found out he had been handcuffed to the bed. ‘What in C’ra’s name is going on?’ William shouted out in frustration, at that time the tv began playing a message.
‘Welcome to the wonderful world of Pokémon, you can call me professor Azalea and this is a Pokémon’ The professor being displayed on the screen took out a white headed  creature with a greenish body, holding a big flower over it’s head. The professor then continued his message. ‘Soon you will receive your very own Pokémon well most of you will, I have 6 tables with 3 Pokémon each, each team.. you will find your teammates as you continue.. can send one member to one table to pick a pokemon from. Currently there are 24 participants, so one team will have no pokemon, so it is with great sadness that i have to announce, the last team to arrive will be………executed.’  With that the message cut out, William sprang up from his bed, he had to escape this room and he had to do it now!

The easy way out
In a room next to William’s Colvill looked at the same message with a wide array of feelings. Most of them a hunger for food. His passion for edibles was reflected by his posture. He was a large greasy man , with disheveled hair and a poorly groomed beard. He smelled of sweat and cinders, the scents of his forge, a place that had been recently burned down by some circus freak fucks, who apparently were pissed at him for making weapons for Neo Aether. He lost his wife when he lost everything else… but that was when he got the invite to become a trainer and earn a better life.  Right after that he woke up here, perhaps he should not have licked the letter. Covill tried to put things together in his head, executed was a bad thing right? So that means he has to get out of the room fast? Well Colvill was pretty sure he could, and without much thinking he stepped out of the bed, noticing he was cuffed to it he lifted up the bed and slammed it on the floor until it broke. ‘There we go, I hope there is a cafeteria in the next room’ Colvill said to himself, walking to the door he noticed it was locked. Without even looking at the keypad Colvill walked to the plant, he picked it up and rammed open the door. Unfortunately for him it was something of a walk in closet, filled with weapons and armors. He found a nice hammer, but armorwise it was all leathers and kevlar and the likes.. he did not like that. So instead he used his weapon to tear up some of the weapon lockers, strapping some of the shrapnel to his body as very improvised plate armor. ‘Now this is an armor hohoho, Colvill said when bashing open the next door, not even realising it was never locked. In the next room, two guards were patrolling, by the looks of the explosives strapped to them, they were some of the many neo Aether forced labourers,  the room had been set up so there were many routes to sneak past, Colvill just smiled and readied his hammer.

Four, five…. where’s the last one ?
Luther was  playing with his skrelp knife, while waiting for someone to pop out of the vaults, he saw Azalea’s message on the tv a bit earlier, if he would get killed for the failure of others, he would drag them all along to the abyss. Loud screams came from the vault labeled number five, the others were remarkable silent. Suddenly the sound of metal hitting metal became deafening as door five began to twist its shape. But it was not Colvill who met Luther and Nils first, Vault number three opened. A young woman, wearing a black bodysuit and a bandana as crimson as her hair walked out of the vault, wielding two pistols clearly a set as their looks where mirror images of each other. Without saying anything, she sat on a chair furthest away from the priests as soon as she saw the six finger print system of the final door. ‘And who might you be my daughter’ Luther began to her. ‘Not your daughter’  was his only reply after which the woman went silent again, covering her ears at the annoying sound of Colvill destroying his vault door. Finally he was successful, the blacksmith stepped into the room looking at Luther and Nils. ‘Hey you guys look weird, do you know where we can get any food?’ was Colvill’s first line to the ‘former’ Team Oblivion members.
‘No my son, but I bet if we get out of here, there will be food aplenty’  Luther spread his arms as he said this in a welcoming motion, to which Colvill just looked confused. ‘Dad? Didn’t you die like a long time ago?’  Luther’s eight eyed masked stared back coldly. ‘Ah i see , you have not been blessed with intelligence but with great strengths, No i am not your father my son, I am Abyss Prophet Luther, but you can call me dad if you like the same goes for you lady with the rag.’  Without looking the woman replied ‘Scarlett and I won’t call you dad’.
Colvill joined in ‘I am Colvil and no  my dad is my dad , you are not my dad, he’s dead…so I think calling you dad would be very confusing’ ‘Suit yourself my son, I am just happy to see these beautiful children I will share this journey with. At that moment William escaped his vault, seeing Colvill’s bloodied hammer, two ominous looking priests, and a very annoyed looking woman, he prayed to C’ra their sixth member would be something the goddess would smile upon.  Yet the sixth vault did not open and no sound could be heard. ‘Perhaps we should retrieve our sixth member, it may not be conform the rules but I am very allergic to being executed, I think none of you take it well either huh’ Luther once more took the lead in the conversation, which immediately went dead when Colvill began hitting the unopened vault with his hammer.

he mysterious Sue
Sue was just laying in her bed enjoying her music, she noticed an old guy pop up on the tv earlier which showed her a floette, which was nice but she was listening to her music and it was just at the good part. She was chained to the bed, but selected to be a trainer. They would come get her when it was time, this bed was more comfortable as the beds she had in her Fǎnwùzhí order of C’ra.  They were called the tech priests. They revered C’ra for her wisdom and her ability to promote evolution in mankind in the form of advancing technologies and new lessons to learn each day. Her walkman was one of her most precious possessions , the lyrics people made and the sounds people made really gave her an insight in humanity as a whole. And it kept her ears warm as well.
Suddenly Sue noticed 5 strange figures popping over her head… well four, the fifth was clearly a Kōngjiān.’Can I help you’ Sue asked casually. Colvill just grabbed her while telling, we need to get out of here fast.  William was kind enough to give the white haired lady with emerald eyes a weapon, but it was to late for her to get an armor, so she was stuck in her black and white priestess robes with gold painted walkman still half on her head. The group held her hand against the scanner as they did their own, exchanging names in the process. Unlike everyone else Sue did take up the offer to call Luther dad.
In the next room professor Azalea was waiting, with 3 Pokéballs on each table, even though Sue coasted it, it appeared they were the first. William however decided this was a good moment to speech. ‘You can not just execute the final team , that would be monstrous, like Colvill here killed your guards, was that worth it?  How can you be this evil , I do not want to have anything to do with your organisation’. Professor Azalea signed ‘those guards were criminals on death row, however their guild could not be entirely confirmed so they got offered this task, if they survive, they are pardoned, if you execute them, nothing had changed. They mostly are thieves who steal from the organisation for their own survival, though I can not say I condone the law, I must follow it as must you, the individual is not powerful enough to stop this organisation, and the organisation is much needed to protect us from the pokemon’
Luther interrupted  scientist and said ‘You have made pokemon your enemy in my world we are friends, you have brought this faith upon yourself’.  Azalea scoffed, it was not the people out here, that shot at Ho-oh when it attacked the capital of freedom, it was not Wiliam over here that riled up the beedrill of twisted tree forest to attack everything on sight. When your ancient king of Kalos activated that weapon all those years ago, and nearly wiped Pokémon out of existence, do you still think it’s the fault of the people living in Lumiose today?’ Luther was silenced by the man’s knowledge of his world began to wonder what he got his old self into.

A whole new world to live in.
looked as Sue walking to a table and picking a Pokéball , without even looking she opened it while excitedly shouting ‘I choose you Aipom’ having picked an actual Aipom. He walked over to a table to see if they had any names labeled, perhaps his old eyes where failing him but he could not see. As Sue let her new aipom climb her shoulders, Luther noticed his table had a Joltik, an Inkay and Litwick. As Luther grinned he picked Inkay to be his new starter. Scarlett settled for a Bulbasaur, which shared a table with a Fennekin and a Popplio. Colvill chose a Growlithe which he named Sunny Boy, he would never pick some stupid crab, or some girly plant thingy..though they looked tasty. William picked a Gastley , something he was clearly not very familiar with and Nils settled on a Houndour sharing a table with a Poliwag and an Drowzee.
With his Pokémon selected William confronted Azala again about the executions, whom assured William that in fact there was only three teams and Neo-Aether just wanted to profile how they would help themselves in a crisis, they always did that in case that the trainers would rise up against the state, Aether would already know how they think and deploy countermeasures, a mere safety protocol against rebellion, and something detailed to go with their trainer passport.
William not agreeing with this Modus operandi  noticed a second door opening, revealing another group of six. They all picked their pokémon, William especially noticed the boy named Weiss, wearing a restraining jacket, and all sorts of bugs in his hair , he picked the Joltik as his partner and challenged luther for a battle. Nils rival was a young  boy, about 15 years old, dressed in a “sentai’ cosplay, claiming he thought Nils looked like a villain and it was his way of the hero to defeat him.
Luther however declined his challenge by Weiss, his eye was caught by one of the others, the one the other team had chosen as their leader.
She walked over to the table Sue had picked her Aipom from, nicknaming it Aster.
Luther.. looked at the remarkable similarities. Her eyes shown crimson her hairs as black as ebony kept in a tomboyish model, wearing a burlap cape, that had been outfitted with some dark scales. Wearing short grey shorts held up by a simple red string, and high socks which seemed to hold up a “mega ankle bracelet’  and grey sandals. Weiss kept begging Luther for a battle, but his gaze and ears where fixed on the interaction of the two mysterious women. When the ebony haired lady went to Sue Luther’s suspicions were confirmed. She bowed for the white haired woman while saying “Hi my name is Zinnia would you do the honour of battling me?’

Thus ends the second chapter of this story, in the next episodes our heroes will face their first battle, or well at least some of them, and they will venture out in the streets to find Hobart , the headstrong Hobo, the gym leader of Rathole town. How will they deal with the issues of this new world, and what is up with people of the past showing up? Find out in the next episode!
