Starting Up: SMILE-Force

The Internet can be a dark place! With battles about what is wrong with our fandoms constantly being fought. Constantly we end up looking what is currently wrong with the world, other people or even the stuff we love. This made me find my voice and try to make the internet a more positive place! Some of my recent posts have done very well in terms of response proving that people like me are out there who would love to see the Internet as a more positive place! And since I had magical girls on the brain.. I came up with…..SMILE-Force.

WIP Logo will get better still!

What is SMILE-Force

About six months ago I joined up with the Otaku Warriors of Liberty and Self-respect. The OWLS as they call themselves. An internet based gathering of people who promote equality across the fandom. A message I still very much can get behind. However I noticed I still was unfulfilled. There was a thing I craved for on the internet even more so than equality. That need was positivity. So I decided to start my own little group thingy all by lonesome! A brand people can pick up and drop as they please.  The SMILE-Force. A name based on magical girl tropes. Now you might wonder.. since SMILE is written in all caps? Does it mean anything? Well yes and no! No as in.. I settled on the name Smile-Force BEFORE making it an acronym. It is meant to force or a group that brings happiness to people but the name is also based on forcing a smile. Not giving in to all the negativity and trying to keep the mood in a room light and nice. Lately I have been telling you all to keep smiling so it felt like a great fit.

A loving heart always smiles!

SMILE stands for Super Merry Incredible Loving Entertainers. Which symbolises the people I want to join me in my fight for positivity. I am searching for people who LOVE games, anime, movies even beyond like lifestyle in general. No matter what you do or how you do it, as long as you do it with a positive angle and desire to make the internet a brighter place. It is an acronym for those incredible people who dare to stand up and say, despite negative reviews or negative community reception I like these people, this game, this anime or even this fandom. It’s for the the people who can look at a failed product and smile.. not thinking how they are going to bring the company that made it down.. but instead think of all the great things said company had given before. No matter if people are youtubers, bloggers, podcasters or even twitter and instagram accounts. It is a force that is inclusive without bias as long as we keep smiling! Current member count 1.. so I know for sure I at least try to keep smiling.

Unlock your own Henshin trough the power of smiles!

What does SMILE-Force do?

This little ,none official, thing of mine is currently seeking members to take up the moniker of a positivity emissaries.   I of course take up the Badge of Positive Pink! What do I do? I try to keep promoting positivity across the web and create an actual happy place. Now WordPress is already pretty positive but if we band together we would be able to achieve so much more.
So what will we ask of members… nothing really! It’s all optional.. because positivity should always come from the heart and not from duty! A blog tour of one.. is kind of lame.. and since I will pick up this fight no matter if people join me or not I have chosen a different approach from the OWLS themed months. At any time, any member wants they can make a SMILE post. Celebrating Positivity about something. It can always be anything as long as it’s  bright, happy and positive. Something you want other people to be positive about or even where you are defending that is bad in the popular opinion. As far as we, can we try to promote each others SMILE posts and just help each other out..without going through huge amounts of work. Each month I will check who made a SMILE post and put all SMILE posts together as I check out who are our “Sunshine Stars”.. the chosen warriors who fought for positivity that month. Later on some other members might do the round up post if they so desire. So .. all in all it’s much more of a way to get your regular content fitting our message shouted out.. as something you need to do work for.

Our Sunshine Stars are not commited at all! But they Smile when they sleep! So that is good enough!

As soon as I get members there will be a twitter chat or discord chat because.. that is what you do these days!  Participation in these is usually pretty low but the channel will mostly be focussed on helping each other be inspired.  Together we look at stuff that gets a negative reception.. for example that whole lawsuit and unrest in the voice acting scene surrounding dragon ball z, the release of that warcraft fail or that baby collecting game not being very awesome. We discuss of someone is willing to counter that negativity by for example writing a post on how good the Dragon Ball Dub is or by highlighting Kojima’s great masterpieces.. or glancing back on our beloved first experiences with the warcraft games. Again.. nothing mandatory.. we  just seek to help each other find some content and create lovely positive pieces that still have some relevance. Good for the internet, good for you.. good for SMILE Force. If I get people to join a discord I shall also add some fun games.

Being A Sunshine Star is FUN! Just look at the smile on this guy!

How is SMILE-Force themed?

If you had not noticed yet by my terminology and the logo.. or me simply stating it earlier. SMILE-Force is magical girl themed. In a post talking about my hopes and dreams for 2020 I figured I would give it a Ninja theme.. based on south park’s Good Time with Weapons Episode. Yet I realised that this did not fit for a number of reasons. South Park is a show that mostly ridicules obsessions and holds shows us a mirror of what we have become. It is reflective in nature. SMILE-Force is not about that. It is simply about joy, regardless if it is politically correct, hated by the media or if you have an (un)healthy obsession with a particular anime or game. SMILE-Force is a reactive initiative if anything. Ninja’s furthermore tend not to be seen and that again is kind of against brand. SMILE-Force is about having your own opinion, (focussing on the positive ones of course) and showing your positive feelings towards the world despite the toxicity out there. So all in all, we got an idea that is very open and present. Very positive focussing on elements such as friendship, love and nostalgia yet it is also about fighting of negativity.. as such the Magical Girl/Boy  style came to mind.

What I see whenever I close my eyes!

The fictional backstory about SMILE-Force goes as follows.(Yes I made this up for fun) Almost each year on earth around the 12th of August a celestial event called the Perseids takes place. About each minute.. somewhere  a shooting star can be seen. Some of these meteors crash on earth only leaving behind a stone made of pure positivity. Keeping a warm tinted shine these stones are called the Sunshine Stones and they allow certain online entertainers with a big and warm heart to transform into Magical Warriors now as the Sunshine Stars. These Merry folks are drawn together to form a band of positivity unlike the world has ever seen. SMILE-Force. This group will soon be needed because from the depths of the wonderful internet the forces of negativity have risen again. Creating a world where one can no longer be happy and has to search fault in everything. Forming monsters on the internet.. influencers who make us want to destroy that which we love by changing the public in monsters that feast on negativity. These monsters and their spawn are called Nancies. It is up to smile force to fight the Nancy army and make the internet Smile once again. Because without smiles the magic of that place ..and thus the entire world.. will soon be lost.

Don’t become a Nancy! They are evil!

How can you join SMILE-Force?

Do you want to dare yourself to be more positive at times, are you looking for a fun place to hang out and socialise with awesome people.. who are practically forced to think positively about you as well.. because of who we are?  Do you want to be unapologetically be positive about things..and blame it on me for putting you in my cult? Do you write lots of positive stuff and think.. sure I will display that logo thingy somewhere? Free shout out. Do you want people to smile more?! Well those are all good reasons to join! I do not have cookies, I do not pay..but I also do not ask a lot of you, just be positive once in a while and get a cool little shoutout. Will that change in the future? Probably not.. .  if anything I will add a “choose your commitment level” on top. Like how most Magical Girls can only transform once but some can use a fanny pack to grow wings and become even more powerful. No required amount of posts needed a year.. just be positive somewhere..sometime. Oh and display the logo somewhere that would be neat.

Again.. it is a work in progress! But for now it is this!

Signing up for Smile Force is as simple as sending me a Private Message throughout whatever way is most convenient for you. Because I want you to do it smiling!

Do I have any demands for you? Not really! I strongly prefer you are over 18 (not a requirement but I want to be able to have a normal mature talk with members). You should really have a positive voice on the internet, (Websites like Gloomy Drawings of me and my goth single mother… might not fit the brand)  and you just need to have an open mind.
Just becaue we love something doesn’t mean others have to. SMILE-Force knows and respects that. There will be true positivity no toxic positivity.  (So no “Shield Hero” is the greatest and everyone who disagrees should die” “positivity”) If you can do that there is nothing stopping you so sign up today and make the internet smile again!

Pinkie’s Guilty Movie Pleasures: Galaxy Quest

When Ross asked Chandler, Rachel claims this is her favorite movie, Chandler answered Dangerous Liaisons. When Ross asked what her actually favorite movie was Joey answered Weekend at Bernies. It was a great scene from Friends that does show truth. We all claim “Spirited Away” or The King’s Speech or some at least well acknowledged movie is our favorite movie while there are plenty movies that might give us more joy. Movies that make you laugh each time and we can’t help but to secretly adore. Yesterday one of mine was on local television and so it is time to start my captain’s log and confess about those movies I love but never talk about! Mission 1… Galaxy Quest

(such great box art)

Glory Days

The movie came out in the Netherlands in august of 2000, very lowkey it flew under the radar for me until I  finally rented it someday it might actually be really fun. In a way it can be seen as the Star Trek counterpart for Spaceballs which spoofed mostly Star Wars. Where the way more famous latter movie had characters actually set in the sci-fi world but being able to break through the fourth wall plenty of times, this movie is basically the exact counterpart of it.  In this movie the crew of an old sci-fi show gets called into space to deal with an evil tyrant named Sarris. However since they are only actors they don’t really know what they are doing. Everything is based on a lie and they are in over their heads. It doesn’t seem like a very original plot but it has the heart in the right place and has some very nice messages about fandoms throughout.

(The Thermians are actually Squids this is just how they see us)

Jason Nesmith , played by Tim Allan,  used to play suave captain Peter Quincy Taggart on the tv show Galaxy Quest. Along with his fellow actors Gwen DeMarco , portrayed by Sigourney Weaver, the elitist Alexander Dane, brilliantly depicted by sir Alan Rickman, the always cheerful Fred Kwan, played by Tony Shalhoub and grown up childhood star Tommy Webber, Darryl Mitchell, all he has left now is a handful of gigs to relive their glory days. These gigs vary from constant fan conventions to opening electronic stores. Galaxy Quest is clearly inspired by Star Trek and is focussing on the world of the Trekkie rather than the world of Star Trek itself. The actors in the movie can not find other gigs because they are to connected to their respective roles, an issue that still feels quite relatable.. looking at some careers.Their magical days of succes are over now. The movie deals with what is left for these actors when the golden days are over, what becomes of star trek ..or galaxy quest past it’s runtime which is where the movie really shines for me.

(You can just smell the Gorn being close by)

Conventional

Jason is the only one about his crew that is super excited to visit these conventions. He loves how people look up to him, think he is a real Starship Captain, he takes on any gig he can find to be with his fans. Much to his crew’s dismay. He treats them like lesser elements of the show and they hate him for it. They hate him for taking this so seriously while they are tired of gig. Alan Rickman’s character is so fed up from using his catchphrase he has a little panic attack every time he has  to go on stage. At first the show seems to depict fans as your typical geek depiction of movies. Cosplayed, unhealthy looking way to shy and insanely obsessed with even the tiniest of details. Think Stewart of the Big Bang Theory.

(Justin Long plays “the geek”)

When a group of actual Aliens show up at a convention of course Jason thinks they are just another bunch of weirdo’s taking things way to serious like that one kid who ask them about how computers of level 2 could operate something, while seventeen episodes earlier it was clearly show those computers do not have that function. It’s a funny and sort of credible scenario, between the cosplayers it’s something hard to distinguish what is real and what is not.

(I can get why he thinks the ship is a set.. but that haircut!)

When Jason visits the bathroom though he hears some convention goers talk doodoo about him and he realises how much everything is a charade. He now knows the crew hates him and how he is a terrible person for allowing people to believe he is a real captain..just so he can feel cool.  Now at the same low his colleagues are.. The hurt captain has a falling out and resorts to drinking The next day he wakes up to four crazy fans at his house.. telling him he has to help them stop an alien warlord. Thinking this is some crazy larping gig he will get payed for Jason agrees.. only to quickly find out ..now things are real. Again the premises doesn’t feel original at all yet on an emotional side this one connects to me so much more. It’s the standard “in over your head” plot.. but the build up for this one is perfect.

(Is it weird that I feel hungry for Takoyaki right now?)

A Fake Reality

It takes a while for Jason to realise what he is doing is real.. after all he has been desensitized to all the sci-fi stuff by doing these sorts of gigs for 18 years. Yet when he finds out this is real.. something changes. He finds a drive to finally do something real.. he can make a true difference, it pushes him to take risks he normally would not have taken. He needed to realise his world was fake ..to realise this was real, to be able to step up to the plate and take on the challenge the movie presents. When he can get his crew involved he becomes super excited. Finally they can be the heroes they really are. The next few scenes have them revered as heroes.

After all the alien race they are helping led by Mathesar have found their footage, they saw their historic tellings and think this is the greatest crew of space adventurers that ever lived. Their race does not have a concept similar to acting. Everything they film is true.. so by their logic so was this. To get the crew to help them they reconstructed the ship to every minute detail. Tommy can fly the ship  just like he would in the show. Alexander gets the food of the race he played and Gwen…has to say what the computer says because that was her job on the show.

(She kinda looks like Claire from Modern Family)

No matter how hard the crew tries however, it doesn’t take long for cracks to appear  in this reality. Gwen’s role of repeating the computer, isn’t very practical or even useful, it’s just how female sci-fi roles were written in that time. She doesn’t know what else to do. Tommy over 18 years forgot  what he used to do on set to control the spaceship, even then he was just busy with acting not actively thinking on how to steer a ship. Things did not happen because of his piloting skills, things happened because of plot. So when he steers into a minefield this time.. things go bad very fast.

(Why are missles always more effective than lasers anyway?)

Fred was just saying lines on the job he has no real idea how a beryllium engine sphere works, so his reports to the captain are filled with doubt. Jason doesn’t realise he is not actually Peter Taggart.. and expects they have plot armor..but this movie tells them .. you don’t…. well of course they don’t die which would have been the most likely outcome..but still they suffer a big loss. I really like that they don’t actually have the skills and acting out the part is not always enough.

(1/10 Villian not Edgie Enough add more SKULSS PLOX)

A Real Lie

The third act of the movie is focussed on the actors fessing up to their lies and coming to a realisation that they are not the actually heroes of Galaxy Quest. They are not what keeps it alive. In truth it is the fandom. The show is over.. so it’s not the writing or their acting that keeps them having their job. It’s people who love their adventures.. much like these aliens they were trying to help. It’s those crazy sweaty guys that cue up for you and ask you stupid questions about terminal 125B-Q, it is those people who see you as a real captain.

(I would open a hairsalon on Themaria)

Galaxy Quest is not made by the actors who love being praised.. it is made by the people who praise it. These aliens made their ship.. and trough communication with some hardcore fans on earth the group is able to get stuff done. We see them come to terms with thinking as a fan.. treating this like it was real.. like the characters are real.. because in the hearts who made this ship.. they are real. At a certain point Rickman has to say his catchphrase to a dying Thermian..who just wants to here “By Grabthar’s Hammer You Shall be Avenged” .. because it means so much to him. Thus for the first time the phrase really gets meaning! It became real! Such a nice scene!

To me Galaxy Quest is not just about the jokes and the dry humor. It’s not about it’s predictable plot.. it’s the motivations that drive this movie. It’s not about the fight against some generic alien. Sarris is pretty generically designed.. if you think evil alien. you probably have one or two features of Sarris included in there. He is green, Lizardlike, Has warpaint, evil looking armor.. he speaks exactly like you imagine him to to do etc. Galaxy Quest is in essence NOT a movie about a Actor getting in over his head, even if that is the plot.  It’s about how fans can make something made by others greater. How they can understand it better and elevate it to another level. It’s about how an adventure did not have to actually have happened for it to be real. It’s a message to never stop loving!

(If you stop loving what you love Saris will kill you!)

I really love and watching this movie always makes me happy to be a geek. Loving a show isn’t a bad thing.. even if a story is fake it can inspire us. Maybe one day a Trekkie will actually discover warp speed based on the show, maybe one day aliens will read my blogs and use technology to give me anime powers.. because I inspired them.. who knows! Fiction can touch us in different ways and respecting it’s fandom is key. We as fans do not create shows.. or movies.. or have a say in what type of game we get. It’s our duty as fans to keep alive what we love!

Which Popcorn flick is your Guilty Pleasure? What movies are you overly positive about? Let me know in the comments and spread some love!

Making the Internet a Happier Place : The Super Happy Love Award

Each week on the Internet it’s something people are chasing with torches and pitchforks. Whether it is burning someone’s career for a horrible tweet of 10 years ago, or trying to ruin a game company for making the first actually bad game in their career. Nowadays we even want to corporately murder companies for not producing AS good of an anime or AS good of a game as their prequel ones.  In fact if they are not better and improved in EVERY single way and if it does not have EVERY similar feature the BEST of their genre have to offer, it means they are 0/10. If you like something that isn’t perfect you are an idiot as well. Well I say enough! I do not want to live in such a world and I am fighting back! For every skull shaped cloud of hate they will release, I will release a muffin topped with a cotton candy cloud with shimmer sprinkles of love! And I need your help! Enter The Super Happy Love Award

It’s time to heal the internet, for to long has our safe space been a feeding ground teaching us to be as negative as possible. With this blog tag we start making a vaccine! We show that passion can be genuine! We give love to those who deserve it and praise the ones that have done something important for us.  The ones we love , even when fictional, are oftenly only human after all. With this blog tag I want to spread love for all the fandoms and united fans in positivity again! No longer will we shake our heads and say “this isn’t the <insert fandom> that we used to know.. they destroyed our beloved. NO! We stand together and join forces and turn this into “Remember the time that <insert fandom> did this amazing thing! I LOVE IT!. How will we do it? With this blog tag? How does it work? Well here are the rules.

Happy Little Rules

This is a fairly simple blog-tag , even though it has a BIT more rules than most others. Why?! You will see… teehee!

  1. Thank the one who tagged you and if at all please tag the original post as well. This is my first blog tag and a bit of a passion project so I would like to see where it spreads! Oh and use Super-Happy-Love as a tag!
  2. Display the Super Happy Love Logo in your post Share the rules!
  3. Choose a minimum of 2 out of these 6 prompts to answer in this blog! More is always allowed! These six prompts are as follows!
    – Tell about a person you love, this can be a friend, partner but also a celebrity or even youtuber who means a lot to you. As long as they once took breath on this earthly realm you are allowed to  pick them… Tell us why you love them.
Write something about a fandom or franchise you love. It can be your favorite game series or about just about anything that is bigger than just a single product! Tell us why you live this so much!
Tell us something about a character that you love. Do you have a Waifu, a Husbando, maybe a mentor or someone who taught you a valuable lesson. Tell us why you love them.
    – Tell us something about a piece of music that you love. Does a anime intro mean a lot to you? Did you have a special memory to a pop song, like your first dance at your wedding? Maybe a piece of video game music? If you love it, you should tell us why!
Show us why you love a piece of media so much! A Book, A Game, A Anime, A Movie maybe even a random piece of fan art, you are free to pick as long as you can show us why you love it.
    –
Write something about yourself that you love! For those who like a challenge, there is a hard mode in this blog prompt as well. Tell us why you love a certain aspect of yourself
  4. Put on your rose tinted glasses. For once you are allowed to gush about the things that you love without having to balance it out with negatives so that you seem objective. In fact your are actively encouraged not to bring negativity into this tag. So no “Nowadays.. <topic>  is poopoo but back in my days.. .it was great. Just say it was great! Love is blind after all!
  5. Tag 6 bloggers you love so they can take on this challenge as well.
  6. Everyone who comments something lovely about your post ALSO gets nominated. (Should they so choose)

Why does the number six appear so often? It’s the number of Venus, goddess of love.  So please try to respect the number of nominees if at all possible. Since I created this tag I shall answer all questions.

Tell us something about a person you love

There are so many people I love, but I guess this spot has got to go to my best friend. Let’s call her Bean. She will get why and she is a small sprout!  Bean and I have only met a little over two years ago but in this time she became incredibly important to me. I had a rough time when I met Bean. Struggling with my identity and my friends where moving away. She is a person I could very deeply connect with. While I have plenty of friends I can talk deeply with I have had little geek friends who could associate with my mindset. If I felt sad it was either.. let’s go to a big party a drink the pain away or let’s go to the sauna to relax. Bean and me go hunting pokemon together, we have a quick lunch and gossip, we watch pokémon movies together or a hilariously bad horror movie. With Bean I never have to pretend to be someone else or more mature, with Bean I can make jokes without having the fear that she would not understand.

Before the age of Bean I went out drinking with normie friends and a female friend got a major burn on a friend. I shouted..ooooh you don’t need a burn heal you need a full restore. I found that so funny myself that I nearly peed myself. My friends however almost hurt themself in confusion. Bean is different though! Bean gets me, she would laugh at this stupid joke.. probably even harder than me as she adores little memes and has this delightfully silly sense of humor.  With Bean I can weeb out and yell Nani and Kawaii! She understands what those means and is more inclined to buy me the thing as a gift! If I yell Kawaii around my normal friends they think I bit my tongue! Bean also treats me to lunch a lot and I am very grateful for those! She is an amazing friend I can really connect with like no other!

Write something about a franchise you love

I doubt this will come as a surprise but I love Pokémon! I love everything about it.  Ever since those magical first steps on 6 december 1999 the games have never let me go.  Even before that the anime warmed my heart. I cried the entire day at the Bye Bye Butterfree episode and when it looked like Ash was giving up Pikachu I cried again. I was so proud when I beat the pokemon league in my first game , and I showed everyone my amazing Parasect and was amazed finding out they had a Golem. I have traveled across the lands searching far and wide and I thank game freak for everything they have done for me. Without them I would not have been the same.. or as strong of a person.

Pokémon made me more sociable, it showed me the power of a fanbase and how despite our differences we can be united through love. I swooned over a sylveon plush with people I do not know and we both ended up encouraging getting one. I met new people,  who accepted me, I played adventures I never thought I would. I was introduced to my love for trading card games trough this and I had my first mini LARP. On top of bucket list is visiting the pokémon café in Tokyo and have a Mew Fluffy Marshmallow Drink , as well as spending a lot of my money there on cute plates and adorable dishes. Maybe I will never have the money but at least it gave me a dream. Something to chase after. The franchise is the reason that I am part of this wonderful online community that is called WordPress! And now I can fight to make the internet a more happy place! With my pokémon buddies by my side!

Tell us something about a character that you love

There are plenty of characters I loved and I already talked about a fair amount of them. Since I do want to offer something new it’s time to talk about another fictional character that I absolutely adore. That character might seem like a very weird one to adore so much but she deserves every bit of my love and more. That character first appeared in the Lego Movie as part of Emmett’s crew and the oddball  Leader of cloud Cuckoo Land her unique and pink design immediately inspired me. She fights for positivity and smiles and does so in her completely unique way. Throughout the entire movie she has the most cartoony depiction, changing colours and even shapes based on her emotions and thusly appears to be very open. Her fight for positivity make her a perfect character as the one to be loved in this first Super Happy Love Award post.

Unikitty also has her own cartoon show simply named Unikitty in which we get more of the lovable cat unicorn to love.  We see a character that has her cheeks change based on what emotion she feels, never really hiding what you feel. We see a character that serves as an inspiration for anyone who isn’t standard. It is okay to be you, no matter what you are, no matter how different you are. We see other characters attempt this but none are as surreal as Unikitty. She loves parties, sparkly things, positivity , cute things and cheering people up. She dislikes her arch nemesis Master Frown, unfriendly individuals, negativity and candy corn! So .. while I have difficulty relating to most human characters I have no issue relating to this rainbow, colour changing unicorn cat thing made out of legos… I love it!

Tell us something about a piece of music you love

Now I could talk about Ducktales the moon theme again but I will not. I will talk about another piece of game music.  I am going to talk about A Hat in Time : New Adventure. This song came to me in a time I was suffering some gaming fatigue. Yet within minutes after playing Hat in Time, I felt that old magic I should feel as a gamer again. New Adventure to me signifies that feeling. So to me it’s a song about the magic of gaming. About finding your inner child and playing. We become Hat Kid.. a platform hero who also likes  to play around and have fun. This song is all about having fun.

The theme is also remixed into other tracks of the game, like You Are All Bad Guys phase 3, in a way it is hat kid’s theme without being named as such. It’s a song about the innocence and loving fun. For that reason I used this as the theme also as the personal theme for my Eldritch OC Luma. In a contemporary fantasy campaign my group has to raise an Eldritch Baby and keep her safe from the evil forces of R’lyeh since she is the only one who can destroy the breaches between Earth and the realm of chaos beyond time and space. I made new friends with this campaign and love writing it and hosting sessions every day. It is so much fun and I love role playing the character of Luma. Each time I get to play her theme a smile appears on my face and the worries of the day wash away.

Show us why you you love  a piece of media so much.

I could cheap out and write something about my favorite pokémon game but honestly I love so much of them I would not know where to start. Like I already told you I would one day love to own an original NES with a copy of Ducktales.. or even have a ducktales cartridge made as an art piece on my wall. Another game I have strong memories about like that is the Nintendo 64 version of smash.  I used to play this one with my little sister in a fairly unconventional way. We would play mostly with Kirby and and Pikachu.. her being Pikachu and me being the pink blob that Sakurai blessed us with. We would play tiny sketches. For example.. Pikachu is traveling to his vacation by Great Fox on the Sector Z stage. Kirby tries to engage in conversation and make a friend while Pikachu wants to be left alone. They end up fighting , Kirby still thinking this is play.

Each time we would play a new sort of sketch and come up with a new tiny adventure. Everytime we would get out of school we would start of with this like a little ritual. After that homework and if we finished it we would meet again in front of the tv. If we finished homework early we would play a few more matches before our shows would start. One of my favorite sketches we did was Mario and Luigi having a Moustache contest. Where they argue who had the more beautiful moustache. Loser had to shave of their moustache. It was all so silly but it was one of the closest memories I have with my sister. It was one of few things that fully could bring us together and often mom would come watch and bring us some crips, a nice little family moment all made possible through a video game.

Write something about yourself that you love

So this  is the hardest part to talk about but here we go. I love the little child in myself. For a thirty three year old I might not be the maturest woman of my age. I still love unicorns, I talk to imaginary creatures and I often pretend to be a princess. and I sometimes play with plushies for a bit. Last night I failed a picture Captcha because I had to select two specific pictures and I felt bad for the other picture that looked cuter so I clicked it as well. It deserved a click. If someone talks about harming a imaginary creature or talks bad about a cutie I still feel for it because maybe in some alternate reality those things can still hear us. Maybe we have not discovered yet that there are other forms of intelligence that we just not comprehend. So I even try to treat my plushies nice.. just in case.

Of course I can face reality and lose that magic to appear more as a coherent person. I could look at a game that I dislike and think it’s just a stupid piece of plastic. Yet  in my world maybe to some extend it has some feelings. Maybe a developer who worked really hard just wished with all their might that someone would love that thing they made and that by saying kind words I could make them a little bit happier as well. I mean I will always be honest, if you ask me for my opinion you will get MY opinion.. and not a lie fabricated to please you, but I also think there is no need to be unnecessarily harsh to things… because you never know! Maybe sometime it will come alive! Maybe to a certain extend  our mind set can influence the world if we are more positive. Maybe I am naive for liking something even if it’s not the best thing ever and that I just enjoy playing with it. Yet it is a thing that also allows me to love live and appreciate little things. By thinking just a bit like a kid, we can add some shine to things they do deserve but from adults rarely get.

Six Bloggers I love

Now it is time for the nominees. Here nominated six bloggers we love or we love to take on this challenge.  Some kind words for those bloggers are in order I think.

A girl and her anime:

She nominated me for my first blog tag, so I figured it would be fitting to nominate her for my first blog tag.

Fred from A Natural:

Someone who made me more positive about myself and helped me find more love for myself. I think he deserves to spread the love around.

Irina from Drunken Anime Blog

Was there ever any doubt? I know she is really busy and doesn’t have a lot of spare time, but I feel that this blog tag is right up her alley!

Foovay’s Cauldron

Foovay has expressed very positive reactions to my aspirations to make this blog tag a thing so I really feel she deserves a nomination.

Megan a Geeky Gal

I tag Megan a lot but that is because I really love her writing style, I have seen her take on many blog tags across the web. Might as well make her set complete with this new one!

K at the movies

Finally I nominated Kat from K at the movies. It is said that K can defeat me in combat but as the ancient old phrase goes. Make love .. not war!  This blog tag gets K a chance to live by that motto.

And remember, if you are not tagged but you love my blog and leave a nice comment you ARE nominated! It’s in the rules!

Five Geeky Things about me You did not know

My dear island-guests, for most of you it has become clear that I really like Pokémon, pink and unicorns. There are however a lot of geeky things I haven’t show you yet, so with these post that you’ll find once in a blue moon , here on this tropical island, that you might not have known yet.

I am a HuGe Dragon Ball Fan

Okay this one is no secret, I used Dragon Ball stuff a lot in my posts. When I was just a little girl, we had a tv channel named Yorin, from four until six pm that network would air double episodes of Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z and Gundam Wing (I think it was wing.. might have been another series). Having always been a geek, I did enjoy Sailor Moon but I could never really see why they were into guys so much… signs on the wall and all. I did not care about their real lives as much as they were a bit to girly. You know when your like ten years old and you don’t like the other girls because they don’t like you because you move weird and video game you rebel against everything they stand for. I was a bit of a tomboy, being very ungirly at that age… I compensate to this day. The show that followed Sailor Moon though , I absolutely loved.

Guys fighting each other with big sparkly beams! Transformations that did not involve clothes. I devoured the entire series and it stayed with me. I would go out of my way to watch more of it, when GT started airing here that was a big thing. Z already had been repeated about twice or so, meaning I saw everything about two and a half times, though the buu saga only once as the show never ran it’s full length here before. I didn’t like it as much, but hey Super Saiyan 4 looked pretty good. When I discovered these shows were called anime, and there was a whole wide web to find it , I got seriously into it. Having watched every movie, most of them multiple times, the original series, following Super like a fan, many Dragon Ball games later, I still keep up with the lore and trivia. I am very well read in Super Saiyan Grades (No that’s not SS1, SS2 SS3, but SS1-G1, SS1-G2, SS1-Super-Vegeta and son on) the workings of Ki and so on. It’s a fandom I rarely openly show, but as soon as someone talks Dragonball..  much like Shallot from Legends….. I’m Game.

I crossplayed as Tommy Wiseau (Johny from the Room)

I’ve been going to conventions for about five or six years now, sometimes for work , sometimes as a guest, dabbling into cosplay here and there. Pokémon, the Witcher, Zelda, Hatsune Miku, Maids and the likes. Yet one year the biggest cosplayer of my posse and myself both wanted something new to cosplay..but we were both broke. So we came up with a plan, where we could not spend more than 30 euro on a cosplay. The rest would could borrow or take from our closets. He became a Lewdchador.. buying a mexican  wrestling mask and making his costume of Dakimakura. I saw a really bad soft curled black wig for three euro’s and I decided to crossplay. I borrowed a black shirt and a jacket from a friend and used some of my own white pants. A water bottle and I was done.

For those who don’t know, Tommy Wiseau is the (allegedly) Polish director of the dramatic love story movie, The Room. A self financed movie that is so bad, it is the best movie ever.  There are so many mysteries around Tommy and the Room, like how he got the money and why there are so many pictures of spoons in this movie .. it had become a cult phenomenon
The acting and writing, and directing (all done by Wiseau) is so bad all the scenes have this meme status. “I did not hit her .. I did naaaaaawwwt… oh Hi Mark’ is probably the best known quote from this movie.Having spend only 3 euro so far though I still had budget left. So I asked my friends to all pack a suit and I bought an american football (which is not easy to get here by the way)  We played football in our suits, which at one point I still hope to bring as an event to a convention. It was difficult because every time I saw an Eeveelution cosplay.. I had to run up to them and say ‘Hi Doggie’ … Oh the memes!

I’ve been a Star Wars : The Old Republic Roleplayer for many years.

My online persona as it is to day , was mostly shaped trough roleplay in MMO’s.  Not the dirty kind and not the dicey kind either, I started that a few years later. It was the kind where you emote your actions and have your characters interact. Kind of like Habbo Hotel Plus. In Star Wars I was Sy’ra Delinda, a twisted Sith girl, who was good at making her opponents sick, confused and playing with their emotions.  She was a master manipulator, that had a significant amount of followers, during her run as a character. Sy’ra however was unlike most Sith. She dressed up in all pink, as the colour made her feel safe due to a result of torture she endured in her past, Sy’ra used postive emotions to full her powers, and her catch phrase was Friendship is Magic.  While in reality friends were a means to and end for her.. as someone who genuinely loved her friends she gained power from fighting for and with them.. and she felt that if someone protected her with passion because they care for her, it would make them stronger and more loyal followers.

Her beliefs at one point gained so many followers and the character became so powerful, (trough allies) as many roleplayers loved to have a non backstabber person to talk with that the Guild Master , OOC told people to unfriend her. Sy’ra saw a niche in the sith world, in character and like a true Sith exploited that weakness to gain power. The Guild Master could however could not stand that my character could rebel and easily take over the guild due to her sheer support, from inside and outside the guild that we decided that Sy’ra would just go her own way. She outgrew the school and I retired the character, due to people not accepting that playing it smart sometimes works better than emoting godlike powers. Even if they could destroy Sy’ra with the snap of a finger, the fallout would cause them to lose their power in the end. After that no one would accept Sy’ra into their ranks, fearing her because people testified that they would fight for the character without ever betraying her and no one could deal with such a force. So eventually I just let her settle down, no one could touch her in her lifetime so she just grew old with the woman she loved.

I am (usually) surprisingly good at crane games

I grew up in a small town, with very little exciting things to do. My motorical disfunction barred me from joining any sports , as I would never be able to play with my peers and made me a victim to bullying a lot, so I never really could join a club without suffering. So there was only one time a year where our village would get exciting. When the fair was in town. I loved the fair and the rides, but as time passed and my condition progressed I seemed to go increasingly sick in spinny rides.. being a small town.. that and the bumper carts was wall we had. The last one wasn’t an option because as the bullied kid I would be targeted remorselessly. So I got into crane games, the other thing to do. Being big on plushies.. as they kinda were my only friends, anyway it felt good and fun.

Over the years I honed my craft and really learned how cranes reacted and how the weight of a plushie can be used for easier wins. I understand the rules and I can tell you which games are more likely to pay then others. Now that I live in a bigger town I calculate my chance of winning by,  looking where the plushies are geographically located in the stands, what are current trends and what is not. Then there is proximity to factor in, never go for one that is not ‘the closest’ to the prize hole. Then there is the weight ratio head to body , sometimes you want things to topple a certain way so they can bounce into a win.. knowing what part is heavier allows you to do that. Then there is the ultimate technique, where I account for events and the number of players a day. On the first day or the first weekend day these machines oftenly have cranes set to lower success chances, while for when example the day when people with Down Syndrome come out to play oftenly have their win ratio kept high, even after they have gone. (It’s a thing in my neighbouring town where they all have a field trip together). Physics, Chance and Empathy…. that’s how I expand my plushie collection.

I have Co-Interviewed Toshio Maeda

Toshio Maeda might not be a name that rings any bells. If it doesn’t good for you , keeping your nose clean. If you do know who he is, well you do you I guess. Before I got dragged into this interview I never heard of the man before.  Now who is Toshio Maeda… well he is basically the guy that is responsible for that weird thing people think when you tell them you like anime. I like anime… ‘So you like tentacles groping schoolgirls?’ … that one. Toshio Maeda is the man who popularised the tentacle hentai genre arguably even the founder of it.

So how does a spinster like me get dragged into this. I mean I have sex on  the brain about as often as you encounter a person that can pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch , the place in Wales, correctly. (Assuming you don’t come from Wales)  Well I used to work for a blog that was an brancheoff of a dutch gaming magazine. We talked about Japan and Anime in an extremely dutch way taking on fake identities of super dutch names as well. One of our bloggers had mister Meada as a penpal , for his studies in Japanese.  So one day he asked if he could place an interview with him .. which seemed like a really cool idea and funny. However as we needed screenshots of their correspondence, our leader deemed that the mail traffic would have to happen through our official mail address. So we could place screenshots that mister Maeda actually was mailing with us. I was the one who managed that email so I became a proxy where both our guy and Toshio would mail to. Then we found out the interview wasn’t very funny and ‘on brand’. It was a bunch of to safe and obvious questions while we were kinda the looney ones that asked weird questions. So I got tasked with ..asking the guy some secret questions, unbeknownst to our writer by our leader.  Stuff like.. ‘Did you ever fantasize about being a schoolgirl as well’ but also stuff like .. ‘what is your favorite cereal’ (as cornflakes humor was apparently an onbrand thing because our leader talked about cereal a lot)

He was a really nice guy but his answers were kind of bland. Which in the end made it even funnier to see what he drew compared to what he says.
Painting a picture of a very special man, who  in his own way created a lasting impression on the world. He is incredibly down to earth and passionate about the general art of drawing yet with a description as ‘he’s the tentacle porn guy’.. you kind of expect a Master Roshi or Kakashi like figure but he really is just a very normal friendly guy. Very polite to me , being a woman as well as too my fellow interviewer.  He highlights that we are not our reputation or our looks, we are our very own thing and if we just make assumptions about others we often assume wrong.

Originally I planned this post to have ten things about me.. but I had too much fun rambling on to keep them that brief. So instead I have some more fuel for a post in the future. There I will be talking about geeky cooking, an anime crush, a mean thing I did, one of my most scary dojikko moments and of course end up in a lewd situation again! See you next time sweeties enjoy paradise!

Pokémon Sword and Shield: Hopes and Dreams

With just a week before the new game comes out, the entire pokédex leaked. Yet I refuse to know everything. So while I might wish for something that is announced or disproven I would like to ask you all to NOT tell me anything about the pokémon from the guidebook leak. I am really looking forward to this game and here is why!

The New Pokémon

There is nothing more magical than seeing an evolution happen that you have never seen before. That moment when your bug begins to shine white and you are like ‘Ooh goody goody, I wonder what it is going to be’ This is what made Pokémon Gold my favorite game in the series. The first game lacked that magic a bit because we all saw the anime before. Finding out about crobat in GEN II was something truly amazing. I took on a zubat because I figured it was part of the new dark typing, which it really wasn’t just a mistake I made as a kid.  Snubbull to Granbull felt odd underwhelming I remember still, but that I am not talking about the actual reveal but the moments just before . The moment a new silhouette or pokémon popped up.. or that moment that Snubbull began to evolve, those are magic! Your breath stops for just a moment, filling you with childlike excitement and as a pokémon fan, I can only compare it too walking down on christmas day and seeing those presents under the trees. Even if you know half of those presents are going to be socks to create some filling under the tree your heart jumps in excitement. Maybe that big package is gonna be for you… maybe it will go to your little sister again, it’s to exciting. A new pokémon game brings me back to that exact moment.. but I can have it like 60 times or so?! That’s a whole lot of christmas. Using new pokémon and seeing what makes them tick is also great. What sort of moves will Galarian Ponyta learn, how can I make use of Galarian Weezing his  ability and how can I make Allcremie work on my team. It’s like an exciting puzzle where I don’t know the answer yet and it makes me all giddy. I also feel so happy that I decided to not spoil myself anymore for my blogs sake.. it just makes me super excited to see it all.

The Story

I usually like the stories in the pokémon games, sure Red and Blue’s story wasn’t that special and even Gold and Silver did not had any epic storytelling, but with each new generation the stories become more complex, the villains become more fleshed out and the wonderful world of pokémon becomes more alive. While we got introduced to some characters and their impact on the story very little is known about what will happen.
Will chairman Rose really be evil like we all suspect? Will Eternatus, from the leaks really be a thing? There has been speculation about the blood, about Dynamaxing being evil. I really hope the story would not go in this direction as it would hinder my pleasure of using Dynamax in the end game. It seems REALLY unlikely  they would lock a new feature under the mention of it being evil, but it could make for an interesting plot. What I hope to see however is a nice twist. Chairman Rose being the big bad seems to easy. We all knew Aether was going to end up being ‘the actual’ bad guys long before we played it, I would like us all to be surprised this time. I do however like the concept of Eternatus, being an evil that comes from below, with the mining and factory themes of britain this could make for a very interesting antagonist monster. I would also like if we can see some homage to british folklore. Maybe a druidic place of power where a legendary dwells or even a lake that holds an unknown monster.  That would be definitely something I would love to sink my teeth into.
I strongly wish that Marnie isn’t going to be the big bad of generation, I really like her and would rather see her as an ally than someone whose life I have to ruin. Earlier leaks seem to suggest that she will be somewhat of a pragmatic heroine that will do her thing to fight the coming darkness, i’d happily take that and see her as a strong female  ally, by Arceus we need one. After the optional females, we didn’t ever really get a strong female. Of course Lilly grew up into one.. but she still started out as a damsel. So please make Marnie good!

End Game

Pokémon end-game content has always been either a complete hit or a complete miss. Rumors said we could go to Kalos in the end-game of Sword and Shield and while I would LOVE that to be true that seems like something that would be DLC in this day and age. In fact with Ash’s new anime series , I think we might get access to others regions as well. Of course not a full on region, but maybe a Wild Zone per region. Where we can do new Max-Raids and others stuff. I certainly would not mind getting DLC to a pokémon game. The more I can play the better. I do hope they really step it up from the Battle Tree, of Sun and Moon.. however Rainbow Rocket from Ultra Sun and Moon was great endgame content. So statistically  this might very well become a miss. I fear that we just get access to more raids endgame and can improve our camp and what not. What I would like to see is something like Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Delta episode where we face one more threat to the world in a small narrative arc. If this can be in Kalos i’d be a happy camper but I am also quite content if would take place on the island of Galar. Using Dynamax in Kalos could be troubling, as their gyms aren’t  really calculated for these types of things so yeah I just don’t see us going there right now. Most of all though I hope to see some improvement of the stadium style battles. The Battle Tree, Battle Mansion , Battle Tower etc have always been plagued by the playing being forced to win rows and rows and rows of battles back to back. I would like  this series to be broken up into smaller challenges,Bronze one, pits you against four trainers and a gym leader, bronze two pits you against four stronger trainers and one of your rivals, bronze three .. would further increase the trainers and pit you against an elite four member and bronze final would let you face the cup holder.
While this is very similar to the system we already have I want the requirement to win 30 times in a row to be broken. After we did bronze 1 for singles we can either move to bronze 2 for singles or try bronze 1  of any other battle format. That way I might actually finish it.

Online

I hope people can leave the entire Dexit Tauros-poop  behind them and create a healthy community for the game, just because we do not like an element doesn’t mean we can boycott the entire game. Training up your pokémon for competitive standards seems to be easier than ever, no more hours of breeding, everyone can play. I would hope that the old scene is welcoming to the new players and helps us training and grow.  Yet.. it’s the internet. While I have played semi competitively on websites like Pokemon Showdown, the hassle to make them battle ready kept me from playing compo’s on handheld, but this time I will be ready. This time I can switch natures with mints, this time I can EV train more easily. This time I will be ready. So I really hope people who used to love this franchise can get their self entitled heads out of their posterior and just play the game.  From what I have seen a lot of love went into this one, a lot of care in making sure everyone can join to play together and against their friends and I do hope we can keep the Max-Raid battles clean. I do not want people to be salty because I run a gimmicky set, I don’t people to nag on making the run as clean and fast as possible so they can grind out more. Agatha of the Kanto elite four once said that a real pokémon trainer doesn’t show his strength by bringing the most powerful pokemon along, a true pokémon trainer shows they can win with their favorites.  I hope that people follow this lesson and allow other people to use their favorites as well, even if not optimal. So my strongest wish for this game is not even a wish to Nintendo or Game Freak.. it is a request to the gamer. The world of pokémon is changing, opening up to new people or old who are falling in love with the franchise all over again. Please accept this, be welcoming to those who want to share your world with you. That 30 seconds you spare on a single rate by banning that newbie guy because he doesn’t have the thunder T-M and has to use thunderbolt instead may cost HIM/HER/ or otherwise,  hours and hours of fun, because they are forced to give up on a game where no one allows them to learn. So dear Arceus please.. let Pokémon Sword and Shield get a healthy community! I still cry easy when people are mean to me!
