Pinkie ignores the Master Race: My Top 5 Video Game Consoles

With a subpar laptop and a very big lack of competitive spirit .. PC gaming is oftenly not my thing! I use it for point and Click Adventures and I do enjoy some retro platformers on the medium but overall I must say I have always been more of a console and handheld girl! There is just something a bit more magical about these devices for me! They have a charm…but which ones are my favourites?! I see no way this can be taken the wrong way so here is my console top 5.

Console #5: Gamecube

The gamecube was a bit of an odd duck when it came out. It had less power than it’s rivals and it was so oddly shaped.  With Luigi’s Mansion being the only “name worthy”  Launch TItle Nintendo had to back it up.  Sure there was a new Wave Racer and Doshin the Giant but it would take this machine a while to get some steam. Yet what we did not know was how good Eternal Darkness was, we did not know how good this machine would end up being.  Yet the game-console that   featured a miniature disc to play it’s game had very poor third party support.  Almost all hits , with the exception of a very VERY few were all First Party titles.  Super Smash Bros on the Gamecube is hailed as THE Best version of the game.  The Wind Waker was amazing and many gamers have fond memories of Paper Mario and The Thousand year door.  I am STILL waiting for a sequel to the amazing F-Zero GX! Mario Kart Double Dash was a bright pinnacle in the series and nowadays most of us know what a Pikmin is!

Yet no one really played the Gamecube ports of Call of Duty, Prince of Persia or Fifa. We had Super Mario Super Strikers instead!  Resident Evil 4 , for a long time was a gamecube exclusive and it was amazing but if I had to think of a third party top 5.. I would struggle.  So it was a very static console.. that did offer us some amazing and innovative experiences.. such like Four Swords adventures .. by linking our handhelds to our console! It had two very nice Pokémon titles as well in the form of Pokémon Colosseum and Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness.. in these days the XD is kind of unfortunate but back then we did not juste that emoji yet! It was all about that 🙂  on MSN! The worst thing about the console.. and this is a genuine pet peeve of mine was the fact that it was really hard to get controllers if you did not have the purple variant!  I had to buy a black one back in the day because all the purple ones were sold out.. and I ended up with four different colours of controller.. I don’t like that clowney look! It as a console that had too many quirks but strictly based on its library it would easily be a few places higher.

Console #4: Playstation 2

The PlayStation 2 is the only PlayStation I ever liked. I prefered the N64’s soft but grey look over the edgy but more crisp graphics of the original PlayStation, I did not like Crash Bandicoot’s  jumping into the depth of the platforms.. I lacked the feedback that Mario 64 gave me!   Spyro I liked better.. but the collectables were a bit generic and lacked that level of satisfaction Mario’s one up sounds give you, or Donkey Kong’s soundtrack bestows upon you.  I missed out on LSD-Dream Emulator and the amazing Bubsy 3D but overall I never missed the Playstation. PS2 However, I did it right for me! The controls felt more robust, I liked the graphics a lot better and it had better platforming heroes in the form of Jak and Daxter and  Ratchet and Clank.  While I do not dislike Spyro these had that flavour I was looking for.  It also had the nicest controller and a very solid memory card. My gamecube ones kept breaking!

Playstation 2 had Final Fantasy X.. the last Final Fantasy game that I liked (excluding a realm Reborn) ..a game I have never finished.. not because I could not but because I refused. It also had the best Dragon Quest game off all time! In the form of the 8th installment. The cursed King. I really love that one! Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist of the Roses came out on that as well and I had way too much fun with that game.. even if it’s not all that good! There was this “ease” to Playstation 2 games, that kind of felt it was an evolution in some ways of  Nintendo.. say if Nintendo was a Pikachu, PlayStation 2 was it’s Raichu.. everything worked just that slight bit better over there.. I do like Pikachu over Raichu most of the  time in terms of design, cuteness and how Iconic it is .but Raichu just performs better. It became my defacto game for jRPGs and more mature platformers. I would play it until years after its expiration date.

Console #3: Xbox 360

When the next generation came along however I jumped off the PlayStation bandwagon. Xbox would get Oblivion Sooner, Xbox 360 got Kameo , elements of Power.. a collectable creature adventure Hybrid that really felt like a unique title and one I have always deeply enjoyed. This is the age where I did not really see a benefit in having a very specific console ..besides Nintendo for its titles.. because PlayStation and XBox became a bit more generic to me. If preferred Halo vastly over Killzone and since Microsoft now owned Rare .. I preferred that studio over Naughty Dog so  I was pretty confident about my choice.. and while I never got my amazing platformers on the system I never regretted it and to this day it is the console I own most games on. With well over 80 games.. this kind of was my STEAM. Just.. a bit more space consuming and not holding it’s value as much.

I got the red ring of death but I neatly got it replaced so while maybe not as durable I really liked it better in almost every department. I like a white Console over a black one.. I like the flat surface so I can put more stuff on it.. over the weird rounded one of the PS3. I like the controller better and I certain as heck preferred Xbox live over Playstation online. I still feel the difference between a PS3and a Xbox 360 is almost neglectable but Xbox had more exclusive features I liked. Fable, Alan Wake, Halo, Gears of War. Back in the day I also emulated a lot of SNES because and the Xbox 360 Wired USB was by then the best you can get. I could combine both my gaming passions with this device! Plus it was very fun to annoy my friends in Soul Calibur by playing Yoda! Darth Vader wasn’t nearly as broken and not nearly as fun! I never liked Kingdom Hearts..which to me is the stand out reason to buy a PS3. So since I did not feel that compulsion the 360 became my mass gaming device! .. it did help that it had actual video games unlike the Nintendo Wii…which is mostly a pile of shovelware with a few impressive tech demo’s.

Console #2: Nintendo Switch

Number 1 and number 2 are miles apart in terms of favouritism from the rest. I genuinely think the Switch is one of the best consoles of all times, and the handheld  to full on console format this device follows makes it unsurpassable.  During the N64 era I considered.. should I get a playstation.. There are some cool license games on there. During the next generation I owned all the consoles save for the Dreamcast.. but PS2, Gamecube and the OG Xbox I all played.  I always felt a call to the other consoles.. but not this generation. I have no pull yet towards the PS5 and the Series X..The Switch is all I need. It has the games I like more.. by factor a lot, it can be used as a handheld AND a console and it is more fun to play couch co-op. I do not care about the prettiest graphics, I do not care about the competitive online scene. I am here for the most complete and adorable singleplayer The Switch is a unique thing, with unique games and there is no real substitute. Spider-Man Miles Morales is just a very much shorter.. not even a full game.. version of that Other Spiderman game I own. I have A Call of Duty and I don’t like the 2000 extra mechanics they added in later on. Mario Odyssey though is a completely different game from Galaxy and I can play it in a different way. Pokémon might not be that different from previous generations yet the only real other way I get to play that is by playing clone games.

I like the menus on Switch , they are super easy.. I love that I can get Pink Joycons for it (even though I don’t have them because I just moved and they are super expensive)   I love that I see it played everywhere around me and it’s not a “I am the biggest COD player” kind of culture. It’s .. “hey do you want to visit my island” .. “Hi do you want to trade this Pokémon”.. There is no T-bagging there not that drive to over-achieve. Sure I occasionally play Super Mario 35..but it’s more a “how long can I last” kind of thing rather than.. let’s humiliate my opponents. There is no flexing like “prestige” or golden Pokéballs   if you win a lot in Pokémon online. Mario Party might kill friendships… which can be hilarious but it all feels so much less as measuring your online cyber fallus..  than I get from the other two.  It does it’s own little thing and because of it is such a sexy little beast.

My favourite Console: SNES

Little video game consoles have actually shaped me as a person, but I do think the SNES had an amazing impact on me as an individual. Arguably the NES did as well but I was a much more passive participant in that one. I just got games for the NES from my parents and played them and sure Ducktales had a big impact and I fell in love with Mario 3, Megaman 2  made me me a better gamer and all that.. but it all was stuff that was handed to me.  On the SNES I chose my games. I actively influenced what I wanted to play.  I was much more busy with solving problems in Goof Troop, or finding a way to pass that Moose chase level in Micky Mania then I had ever been with beating Rocksteady  in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.. the Arcade Game. Getting my SNES is the point where I start to remember my entire life..  my conscious memories.. it is also in the time I started to slowly lose friends and be bullied. So in a way this console became my safe haven.. my escape from my bad reality!

The games on the system are amazing. Genesis Does what Nintendon’t .. oh Bitcharizard please. The music on SNES was so more Vibrant.. the first Sonic game.. isn’t all that good meanwhile SNES had Super Mario World.. which was amazing.  Star Fox showed us what was possible on a console and showed us we could move beyond 2d.  Link to the Past is still one of the best Zelda games ever. Maybe it even IS the best Zelda game ever.. it’s a close one for me between that one and Ocarina.  When we get Retro Games these days.. they are almost all modeled after what they would have been on SNES. I still love the heck out of that classic controller and holds the best RPGs that ever released.  Final Fantasy VI (Or III)  Chrono Trigger, Lufia II  and Tales of Phantasia. It had some pretty sweet Sailor Moon games (though not available here) and other anime games. It had the Donkey Kong Games which to this day are some of my favourite games of all times.. and it let me feel pride for the first time in a long time. I might not be able to run properly.. I might suck a sports.. but I was the first in class to kill K.Rool!  I just want a different direction. On the SNES I became a geek and laid the foundation for the weird amalgamation I am today and that makes it my favourite console! SNES Is part of my soul!.. The european version.. not the american version!

And those are my favourite game consoles! I would have liked to bring you a review of a game instead but my laptop crashed and I lost all my progress in Deponia as I had to restore my laptop to factory defaults being unable to complete it! So this had to make due instead! If you want to help me get a pc instead of a Laptop .. this is my newest Kofi Project so if you want to convince me of the power of such a thing.. please consider some Kofi support! Or just be a pal and leave your favourite console in the comments below!

Never Have I Ever done a Tag like this: The Have You Ever Gaming Edition Tag

Hello Island Guests I would describe myself as a bit of an odd gamer. While In recent years I have played a lot of video games I have found myself mostly fond of the retro stuff. I have enjoyed some Indie-game but they rarely appear on my radar. I do enjoy each installment of games like Pokémon, yet these days I mostly play the classics I never could , some fan made stuff, or like some retro like stuff like Cave Story, The Messenger and  Shovel Knight.  How will sticking to the classics effect this challenge?! Let’s find out!

Of course we would not start without thanking Winst0lfPortal for tagging me! I needed this tag really hard at the time of writing it.  As my review of Spanky’s Quest for SNES fell through.. that game is really weird but there is very little so say about it. So I might use it for something like a list or something. Anyway those are worries for later, time to start the tag.
Also for clarification.. all Have you evers are gaming related even when my titles do not have “gaming” in them…because obviously this is the GAMING edition! Also Spanky’s Quest is not a lewd game! You vagrants!

Is there really anyone who hasn’t?!  I can throw a hissy fit for a lot of things. I regularly rage quit Pokémon Showdown matches, while I am fairly well composed, the fact that I play random matches and not get a single counter to my opponents team..  and if my opponent starts taunting me .. that really gets my blood boiling. The thing that makes me rage quit more than anything is other players. It made me quite World of Warcraft entirely or at least the gameplay. Each time I got a dungeon I did not know I was kicked for stumbling into a wrong hallway or even for letting a cutscene role. Other times I would get called worthless or be called an idiot if I asked for Boss Strategies. I usually would be very petty about it too. Like if I was the healer I’d apologise .. put myself on auto follow and then promise to heal properly but if we reached the boss I would /sit get the ones being mean killed and then log off the game. Eventually I just stuck to roleplaying. So I did not rage Quit the game.. I rage quit the gameplay?! Beat that!

Now games I completely quit happened as well. Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden is one of them! I was so happy to finally play a duck!  That game is so insanely hard I just could not get past the fourth mission. Which feels like it really is just the beginning of the game. It’s just one of those things I can not finish a mission because of some weird RNG freak moments. That made me quit! Another game that made me rage quit a lot was a game I actually really loved “The Messenger”. Such an amazing retro platformer that really helped my normally very low blood pressure. This game made  cry in anger when I died again but it was so good! I had to take breaks I had to take breathers .. when I get upset/stressed or whatever my motor skills really get clunky.. which really affects my gaming, which makes me more stressed and eventually if I keep fighting it  I really brick up.. like I can make myself so stiff I am in physical pain.. so calling it quits is important.. Then again I am one of the few humans  who can mimic Kirby’s Down B is I don’t quit! That’s special too!

I think so, I am not completely sure because I usually don’t do that kind of thing.. biggest reason. I barely and I mean BARELY play on my PS4 or Steam. I am a hardcore Nintendo Girl and nowadays I mostly emulate SNES games I was never able to play here due to not having an european release or an insane price tag for Retro Games. I might have like a few indie games on steam like Under Hero where I accidentally stumbled upon all the achievements.  The only game I am fairly certain I achieved everything was The Simpsons Game from 2007. You get most achievements from playing the game and get an achievement for starting up the game so it was really easy. Given I played trough this game twice , once by myself and once on Co-op really made that a breeze.  Games I came close with where Kameo: Elements of Power and some of the Lego “Movie” games. I think I got closest with Lego Indiana Jones 2 and Lego Pirates of the Caribbean. The games I do near complete all come close enough to the collectathon action platforming genre with some adventure like games in the mix for good measure.

However since most games require me to measure my cyber-penis when I don’t even want a real life penis, take that Freud,   by the amount of kills/ headshots / wins I  sign to my name I am out when it comes to achievement hunting. I am mostly against the principle of achievements  Not with a passion but I do feel they play into a sense of elitism, not for everyone but for a particular bunch of people who ruin my pleasure with some games. I was happy to finish Cave Story with the happy end, I was proud I finished Shovel Knight with “relative ease” but then there is always a guy that says… “weh… did you get all the armors and that super secret thing that you get if you beat all the stages without taking a hit… of not you really have not finished anything”   I was super happy to complete the Messenger! It was hard enough! But  people reacted “Wah.. you gotta find all the green coins.. or it doesn’t matter” Achievements are an addition to a game that allow you to enjoy it longer.. I would rather finish a game and check out some other amazing things out there after I had a fun time.. I do not like to grind out these things.  I use achievements to find out if I missed some secret stages or content that I might have missed.. but that’s about it!

Twice that I can remember that I pulled an actual all nighter, but there were several cases of severe Insomnia where I gave up on sleeping and decided to game instead and just slept the next morning but I do not count those.   The first time I pulled an all nighter was during a competition we did in Star Wars : The Old Republic MMO.   A match where everyone made a new character and we had 24 hours to see how far we could progress in the game.  We started at 2 PM in in the afternoon. Me and this guy named Charleigh or some other variant of Charlie both decided not to sleep. As I suffered a lot  we kept each other going.. alongside our third friend whose gamer name I can no longer remember.  I know she played a Body Type 3 (Big Beefy) Pureblood Sith Male Warrior while I made a female Sith Warrior named Desdemona and had A Sith Sorceress named Levina.. I am not sure which one I was leveling anymore..but we had a lot of fun racing each other.  I was in the lead for most of the night..mostly because Charlie was constantly chasing after Type 3 males or even type 4 (fat)  and flirting with them, and  the other girl really struggled to be productive suffering in speed because she was a tank class.  At around 10:30 AM in the morning though I had to hand victory to Charlie because I was wrecked. Playing a game for nearly 24 hours was just to much. My English went down the drain and I could not follow the story anymore.. so I backed out and went to bed.

The second time was when I hosted “Bad Video Game Night” the first edition. We played games like Hong Kong 97 and Wizard of Oz on SNES but also games like Race Drivin, Superman 64, Big Rigs and Ghostbusters for NES by the time we reached Ghostbusters it was like 5:00 AM and we wanted to at least complete one game. At around 8:30 we did decide to give up though. We had only reached the stairs game a handful of times and we were too tired to remember we could save state it… so one guy literally fell asleep on my couch the other began to completely talk nonsense and I  almost poured myself a glass of window cleaner. We decided we would return the next day after some sleep to beat it but after we all had a few z’s  we all decided.. THAT game sucks .. Fudge that game! I don’t want to play it anymore! So next time ..when the Corona madness is over and my friends dare to sit on my couch again we are gonna play some Sonic 06!

No and I probably never will, I really have a weak voice , I assume it’s part of my muscle issue but it’s all a bit up and about. I twitch a lot so talking with a wired headset is pretty iffy as well. I lack the set up and other fundamental problems. I don’t think I need a live stream either. I don’t really like watching most live streams either, there are really only a handful of people whose life streams I enjoy!  One of the is Patterrz a British pokémon streamer whose Nuzlockes I really enjoy following!  I just don’t think people would really enjoy hearing me play Spanky’s Quest or play Pokémon Fan Games my way. I always said this and games should be fun for me .. playing a game with a dozen of backseat drives telling me to go there ..use this or fight using that combo doesn’t sound fun to me at all.  Telling you guys to not backseat pilot and just watch and talk to me instead also doesn’t sound really fun.  Again my motor skills and issues also require me to pause every now and again, unless I play games like Pokémon and even there I misclick due to twitches and such so I never really Nuzlocke or do anything exciting.

No and I have never needed it either, okay Pokémon Shield got pre-ordered FOR me because those new games always release like super close to my birthday (November 17th)  they either release ON my birthday or at the very least within that week. However I am not the type that has to play a game on release.  That doesn’t do anything for me. I can stay clear of spoilers well enough since I want to play at my own pace anyway and I don’t really belief reviews… Pokémon SWSH and Pokémon in general have always had lukewarm receptions but to me they are much more than that.  They are hours I can relax a lot! A lot of Yu-gi-oh games are the same. I picked up Animal Crossing New Horizon two days after release ..because well it got released early but I got stir crazy from all the people texting me to tell me my turnip prize that day, come visit their island to check out one new chair they got  or a little path they made. While part of that is the appeal  of Animal Crossing I felt like I could not play my game anymore I had to not landscape in the time I wanted because they needed to check what was in my store or they would only give me an item if I visit their island.. it made me leave my island behind.. so  many people shouting.. so I prefer to play a game when it’s a bit older.. less voices cluttering my experience. I also think playing it on release date doesn’t make me a bigger or true fan either! I rather play a 2002 Yu-Gi-Oh game than a 2020 release all day long.

Well I am a Nintendo Girl, so yes! I mean who buys a Switch because they want to play Skyrim on the console and on the go?  Or who buys a Nintendo Wii U because it is the superior console over the Xbox One  and PS4? No you buy a Nintendo Console because you want to play Mario, Kirby, Zelda , Metroid or Pokémon. I got gifted a Switch so I can play Pokémon Let’s Go. I bought a Gamecube because I wanted to play the Wind Waker, I got a Super Nintendo because Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World looked so much more awesome than my Ducktales and Megaman 2.  Heck I even got my NES because Mario 3 and Ducktales looked better than what the competition had to offer.

I got a PS3 hand me down but I haven’t ever played it because it was handed down by a Call of Duty players, I had nothing to play on it so I did not care.  I have an XBox 360 with about 80 games and not a single game comes close  to being as beloved to me as anything I own on Switch or Gamecube. It’s fine.. but I’d give it up in a heartbeat.  I even got my PS4 to play Destiny.. back when I worked for a company that let me do game Journalism and Blogging for a possible career and I fell in love with Destiny after playing it along with some dutch celebrities at Cologne Gamescom. Safe to say I should not have!  I ended up resenting that game and console quite a bit. I bought Shadows of Mordor which I twitch locked myself out of enjoying (I hyper leveled one particular Orc a lot by dying against him over and over again)   I would not enjoy most of my games on PS4 until I got Xenoverse 2 and South Park the Fractured but whole! I also really liked the Spiderman game so in the end the price was kinda worth it..but it was the least enjoyable console I ever bought

So like my prefered games I might be stuck in the past, I do not see myself evolving anymore as gamer. If gamers where like Pokémon I’d be a fossil Pokémon but doing this tag was really fun! Now I am off to play some Pokémon Uranium followed by some Hong Kong 97 for SNES. Chin has still  met his quota and I love  I Love Beijing Tiananmen especially if it’s on a loop! That’s the kind of gamer I am and I don’t need no pre-order, no streaming or no achievements to do that! All I need is my trusty Nintendo Love, some gamer rage and then I can go all night!

I am a bit new in the gaming-community part of WordPress so I am not sure how old this tag is and where it went so I am just selecting a few people on tags based on random ideas and things.

First of all there is Ace-Asunder’s Solarayo who’ve I’ve seen do the Seriously Geeky Sunday Tags a lot of you share! So I am thinking they will be a fine candidate!

Second will be Megan of A Geeky Gal, because I have made it my life-long mission to tag her for every new tag post I either create or experience.. so I had too!

Finally will be Leek, From Leek Plays, based on their blog name there is plenty of gaming content and their logo and icons have pink elements in them! Us pink themers have to stick together!

Patterrz is you ever happen to read this, which I seriously doubt! I will nominate you to do this one on YouTube! One question will be very boring though!

Of course if YOU my dear reader want to take up this tag you can! You can earn your nomination by telling me what my favourite video-game song is in the comments! For those who do not know! I will reveal it in the post that comes after this! You can reply as long as you want! Oh! And if you don’t want to read tomorrows post all my Coconuts I shall nominate by default! So yay! Options! See you in the next post!

Top 5: NES Tunes

Welcome back my dear island guests. Today I am exploring Movie Park Germany in the real world looking for some of the remaining halloween spooks. The visit is a surprise gift for my birthday next week though so I had little time to make a sunday blog. That was when I figured….my paradise could use some music.  What better way to start then the console I grew up with. The NES. Everything is allowed Main theme, stage themes and boss themes. I will however only use only one entry per franchise and only use their original version. So unfortunately no Excitebike remix from Mario Kart 8..but that is an honourable mention. Additionally , this is not the list of most catchy themes since that would result in just naming the classic main themes.  It’s a list of memorable and engaging songs of my first owned console.

Tune Number 5:
Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest – Bloody Tears

What a terrible night to have a curse , these words linger through everyone’s  head who played this game. Incredibly cryptic and even broken in terms of ending and Dialogue , Castlevania II : Simon’s Quest is a game of debatable quality.  However those who who love or hate this game alike all are in agreement. Bloody Tears is a brilliant song. While many consider Vampire Killer to be the superior track, I would have to give the title to the doozy in this sequel. There is more build up to it more, more structure. The track feels more leveled and captures the gothic feeling of the series just a bit better.  While Vampire Killer stands for Simon Belmont, Bloody Tears to me stands for Dracula. Since, Castlevania is more about Dracula then it is about Simon to me I always found this one to be the more fitting one to represent the amazing franchise.

Tune Number 4 :
Silver Surfer – Stage 2

Now this is a weird one, the game itself is not a very good game, the angry video game nerd even deemed it a bad game. However I would not go that far… as long as you have a turbo controller.  The game is insanely hard even ridiculously, I managed to finish about three stages but I was never able to finish the entire game because the trick is to finish this game on a single life.. to keep your shooty  upgrades. Dying once.. and dying means hitting a single thing, means losing it all which makes somse stages virtually impossible. Meanwhile everything wants to kill you.. Touhou before Touhou. However what was excellent about this game was it’s sound design.  The soundtrack of the entire game was worth a listen but this one has that particular earworm vibe. Check out the game if you like a challenge and check the soundtrack if you are into 8-bit master pieces.
The box-art was pretty amazing too!

Tune Number 3:
Super Mario 2 – Overworld

While I vastly preferred the original Super  Mario over the second one gameplay wise that overworld theme of the second game is just soooo good. It’s quirk and fun and it has this level of ‘swing’  where you can tap your foot on the beat when your playing or swing your hand while snapping your finger when you are just listening. It might lack the iconic  level of the first one, but this one sweeps me away and I often linger in the first stage just to catch some more of tune. The way the sounds interacted with the theme, from when your climbing on a vine to opening up a door, it all seemed to harmonise together so greatly. A symphony of gameplay and soundtrack. Now I have to admit that I might favor the rendition of Doki Doki Panic (the game Super Mario 2 is a reskin for the western world off)  a bit better. It feels more tranquil less hard, due to the lack of one additional sound channel the NES had compared to the famicom. Adding in the sound of my jumps and climbing though the victory still goes to the NES. Even the way the stage progresses to the boss theme, where we fight the first Transgender character in video gaming ever… in the form of Birdo seems well done. This song blends with everything.

Tune Number 2:
Mega Man 2 – Dr Wily Stage 1/2

Albert Wily is a briljant but dangerous man and the antagonist of Mega Man since the earliest consoles. In the second adventure the first two stages of his castle got a simply briljant theme. I listen to this soooo much  be it in a remix or just the classic. Mega Man 2 was one of the first games I played and got good at. Being a bit of lonely kid as I walked funny and did things weirdly I spend a lot of time with my games and Mega Man was one of my top three games. I honed my craft and one by one.. over the terms months if not even years I got closer each time to defeat more Robot Masters. The first time I reached Wily’s castle I went a little queasy at how awesome this music was. I was overwhelmed and it made me feel really badass for reaching it. The music in itself was a reward and it highlighted perfectly how far your journey had gone.. how good you must have gotten to make it this far, how badass Megaman was by now. Even to this day I feel there is this “anime’ quality to it, I could easily see it being used as an opening for some kind of cyber-punky shounen show. It feels like more than just an 8 bit track. It has some amazing remixes out there as well so be sure to check those out! They are definitely worth your time. The box-art of the megaman games is notoriously bad though.

Tune Number 1:
Ducktales – The Moon

In 2017 the new ducktales animated show began to air, in which Huey Dewey and Louie move in with their uncle Scrooge. At the end of season 1 I cried.. like a baby.  We simply got a pan-shot to the moon that played a remix of this song after which a big reveal was made. The tune made it’s return in the second season.. and I cried even harder. It was beautiful.
A few years earlier, a remake of Ducktales the NES game came out on steam, I bought it and when I reached the moon stage..I cried, I had to pause my game to cry away my joy. The Ducktales game was based on the Disney afternoon show in my youth, my favorite tv show and favorite video game .. quite possibly ever even inching ahead of Pokémon.  Ducktales made me a gamer, Ducktales made me feel good about myself for the first time.

Even if it was just a video game, there were obstacles I could overcome. The theme from the moon is universally beloved and just so incredibly good that I could never forget it.  If I had to tell you how nostalgia would sound I would hum this tune. While I claim Pink Fluffy Unicorns is my anthem and signifies my mindset , The Moon represents my journey through life. Or me as a gamer. This to me is not just the best NES track ever, it’s one of the if not THE best  (game) songs ever. Whenever I feel sad about my life, I listen to this song and I am that little girl again who can enjoy herself with a cookie and this gem of a game. One day I hope to get a copy of the game again. Just as a keepsake. I would build a little display for it like the moon, and see if I got some techno friends that make the display play the moon theme. That’s how good this one is.
