Too Many People Think I am Real Neat: My Final Real Neat Blog Tag

So I have been nominated for the Real Neat Blogger award again! Banzai! This time by the geek girl I based nominated on the random word of Equinox! That is right Joy tagged me right back! At the beginning of the year 2020 I started with a tag week! Right after I finished it the Iridium Eye also nominated me  one of these so guess what I am combining these again! So I think these are my fourth and fifth nominations? I guess I am pretty neat! Yay

Warning: Pinke is a Buzzkill!

I am breaking the chain with this tag however. Normally we display rules , ask new questions and nominate others, however most people I know went around multiple times. Like four or more! I think this is a good place to call it quits! It is a great tag but maybe it should rest for a bit.. at least untill we gain some new bloggers or if I discover some. Untill then I will break the chain. If you really want to do this tag still. Pick any 7 questions of the ones asked to me or check out my old post and nominate yourself!

Joy’s Questions:

(Cick the Good Bot Cocktail to visit Joy)

Question 1: Coffee. Tea. Vodka or pick a legal Inhalant.

I’m Dutch so my options of legal inhalants are a bit wider than that of most people. Yet when I tried to inhale my first attempt of weed I actually set my sigaret on fire,. Using a water bottle I had attempted to make a bong to make it a bit easier on me.. which was a tip I got. You make a hole into a bottle filled with a bit of water let the bottle fill with smoke and inhale trough the bottle cap. However with burning paper setting the little bottle on fire I quickly got covered in melting plastic and those fumes .. though making me lightheaded did not give me much joy. I also burned myself a lot on tea and on Coffee so I guess my answer would have to be Vodka, though I do prefer Hibiki Japanese Whiskey as my absolute favorite, the softer flavor or the swedish Absolut Wodka can be nice from time to time… and their bottles also look neat.

Question 2: Favorite Season: Summer Winter Spring oR Fall

My blog is set on a fictional tropical island! I am pretty sure it that already telegraphs which season is my favorite. I am definitely a summer girl. People wear more colourful outfits, the heat is really nice for my tense body and muscles and I can wander my streets in daylight for a long time without the fear of encountering creeps as the streets are so lively no one really bothers you. Going out swimming with my friends is really nice as well and I love the japanese melon game..though of course I have hurt myself when playing that.

Question 3: Even if Music is not your Thing  what song is currently on top of your playlist

I feel that this question is directed very straight forward towards me. I actually do not have a playlist. So I will show you the last two songs I listened to. Why two? Because one was on my phone and one was on my laptop! I am unsure which one I watched last!

(It makes sense that I watched this)
(This one is a bit weirder though)

Question 4:  You are suddenly named queen of the world. What do you do?

First of all I would not abdict my throne to Joy! I am to selfish for that. Secondly I would check if I am on a ship. If I am on a ship when I become queen of the world I would get the frick off that thing. If I actually become queen of the world I would first quit twitter. That isn’t going to give much positive feedback.  My first act as a queen would be to ensure my wealth, I have lived in moderate poverty for long enough and if I get a lucky break I make sure as Bad Devil Emoji Place, that I am not wasting it.

Then I would continue my quest to make the world a more positive place. I’d put a small fee on posting complaints online. For example if you do not like the new game , you’ll have to pay to burn it to the ground. Being positive will get you credits you can use to redeem cute little prices. Joy can make the program for that! So instead of writing “the new Warcraft sucks” people can rejoice together how good the orginal one was and earn credits to get like a free humble bundle .. or a cute plushie of your queen. Queen Pinkie.. taxing negativity…but  free health insurance!

Question 5: Imagine you have the ability to learn anything what do you learn?

Is the ability finite? If so I would like to learn the ability to learn anything. Omniscience is a great power to have and it would make me wealthy. I could make my own cure, I could use the power to improve the life of so many. I would totally go for it. Again I would not just do it out of the kindness of my heart.. even though I want the world to improve I want myself to improve as well. If we are talking about straight up skills or knowledge though, Japanese would be a serious contender, but I would love to be the only person in the world who understands how the youtube algorithm works even more. I would be close to godly! That is even better than being a queen.

Question 6: What is your favorite or least favorite moment in life thus far?

Well my least favorite moment would definitely be when I . kinda , died?  My heart has issues at times and this one time it got really bad while shopping. I was gone for a bit but luckily I returned. I only vaguely remember the whole incident but at one point there was this awareness that hit me… which was very humbling and frightening. In a way it felt almost like drowning. I felt like a current was dragging me away when I tried fighting it.

My favorite moment in life is a harder one but I guess I would have to say my first big anime convention that I visited in a non blogger capacity. Before than I actually got an internship (unpaid)  to blog and I visited a few conventions to promote japanese credit cards. The first convention I went to in full free time we rented his beautifull AirBnB and it was just an amazing time balancing the con with a few parties at the house and just having a swell time with friends I shared a passion with. Which was by then still a new experience for me.. I could be me and I had trouble to be that before.

Question 7 Billionaire Yusaku Maezawa invites you as one of the observers to ride on his 2023 chartered SpaceX Starship trip around the moon (seemingly actually going to happen) and it’s it’s basically a once in a lifetime opportunity… do you go? Why/why not?

)

I would probably pass. First of all even though I am a Blogger, I would not consider myself an artist. So I would have to be that special single woman he can take to share the experience with. While I am not above flirting with a billionaire to be better off maybe, he is to young. I would ruin to much of his life with false pretences. Like for a year or five .. I can live with that.. but more? That is a no go. I do not like children and he has three. Plus he is a he.. so nothing could ever happen.

As for the whole moon experience.. meh.. Space travel seems uncomfy and I can experience zero gravity here. I see the moon pass by often enough so passing by the moon kinda seems redundant.  I would not appreciate it as much as other people would. Space is empty, the moon is just a rock, we all glorify it on mass but that´s a bit medieval thinking in my opinion. If I want to make a trip around a dead rock I might just visit Wales at least there is food there.

Bonus Question : One dark night, in the middle of the day, two dead boys got up to play. Back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other. Two deaf policeman heard the noise, came to rescue two dead boys… and if you don’t believe my lie, it’s true… ask the blind man he saw it too! So… where were you and what is your spurious alibi?

Let’s see .. since it is a dark night for me and in the middle of the day the two boy got up I most certainly was in another time zone! Which already is an alibi itself. Since deaf people cant hear clearly deaf is an Acronym for Dutch Electronic Arts Festival, so I assume they were guards.Since I am Dutch I must have been traveling or I would be in the same time zone. Since it’s dark for me and mid day for them it would have to be at least 8 hours later.. Japan is in that time zone so I am most likely there. Later would put me in New Guinea  and I have no interest in that.To be able to shoot each other after drawing the swords the boys must have been using the combination lefaucheux pinfire revolver and sword.

If being dead did not give it away yet, being able to face each other while back to back must mean the boys are zombies. Being able to spin their head on their undead necks. The gun sword is a french creation meaning the zombies most likely came from there! Clearly the blind man used to be able to see..but after this happend he lost his sight. Making me believe the zombie boys attacked his eyes. Therefore he is now blind..but still saw.. indicating the zombies are hostile to humans. So where was I? In Japan fleeing this zombie apocalypse thing that is going on my my home region.

(Zombies that are CHILDEREN? EEw hard pass!)

Irridium Eye’s Questions:

Click the Iridium Eye (It’s silver not gold) cocktail to visit their blog!

Question 1: What is one obscure movie or anime that you know of that you wish was more popular.

None really. I think obscurity usually stems from being catered to a more defined demographic.  While what is popular should be more available to everyone. Either the message of those movies and anime would have to be generalised or it would not gain popularity for the right reasons.  Wolf Children the anime movie may deserve more love.. but meh, I do not think the taste of others is needed to validate my tastes and most gems I like for being that one of thing. I do not need a sequel so I do not mind being alone in my love.

Question 2: The Iridium Eye is very vocal about film plagiarism issues. Like Inception Stealing from Paprika or the Lion King plagiarizing Kimba the White Lion. What Original film, tv series or anime would you not want to see ripped off at all costs.

While I very much get this stance I do not have an issue with it as much Inception is generally not made for the crowd that watches Paprika most of us have only known about Kimba because of the Lion King. So I do think  there is a risk in never being ripped of at all. I like Kimba better and Paprika wins over inception for me.. but most likely I would not have watched them without being aware.

Is it okay to not be original? No .. but the truth will get out and people can see what truly inspired you. We can see Inception as a lesser Paprika.. or a Lion King as the shameless rip off. That is punishment enough. plagiarism helped me discover gems and unmask fakers. My tastes are pretty generic.. bright colours, magical girls, CGDCT. In this day and age I see so much things being used in various forms I am not sure where the original comes from. Mostly when Hollywood does an orginal idea now it is competly overhyped and kinda feels snobbish to me.

Question 3: Who is the most underrated composer in your opinion

Hiroshige Tonomura plain and simple! Why? Because he made this! This man made my childhood!

Question 4: Which Country would you like to see some cinema from that is not your homeland

Well after the Oscars Korea might be a good pick. I am not a big fan of dutch cinema. It’s very explicit, lots of naked and lots of focus on sexual relationships in every genre of movie. We are the horney teenagers of the movie industrie.Famous foreign flicks are often too gimmicky for me though. To heavy handed. Famous movies that aren’t english are oftenly all sucm metaphorical mazes or idealogical sinkholes I feel like I am in bible school. So perhaps just a bollywood movie! Don’t get me wrong those art pieces are nice to watch from time to time and can truly touch me, but they will never be my favorite films. So maybe something from India! That will be a good time!

Question 5: What is your biggest issue with the current Hollywood scene.

The negativity surrounding it. Like with games, the movie crowd is more focussed on seeing what sticks. We all know how bad Cats is, we all had major tantrums over Star Wars and sonics looks. We are being treated like we own the films and have a say in what should and should not be. These movie makers have their visions but we need avengers style humor in everything, we need representation for everyone. We need to see ideas rehashed we like. Movies should be written by it’s makes not by their test audience. If something is bad we do not need cinemasins to point it out or Nostalgia Critic to try and be funny about it. Let’s focus on what is good rather than rewriting Hollywood with hate.

The Razzie goes to us! Demanding that we get what we want! No creativity!

Question 6: Finish this Idea (Name of the progatnis here) would be the most interesting hero ever if…?

Ash Ketchum would have been the most interesting hero if he ever grew up.  I really had trouble with this question. Which hero could I change for the better in the eyes of everyone. While I have written several what if’s in my past I do not think I could raise a hero to new heights. Luke Skywalker meant so much to many people because of how he was written, to improve on him feels pretentious. So I am sticking to a development we basically all could get behind. To those who grew up with Gen 1 Pokémon Ash was kind of our peer.  Our age give or take and if he had aged alongside us during this journey.. at our rate it might have made the pokemon anime something truely unique. Ash winning the Aolan league would have been much bigger.

(If only)

Question 7: What none actor should try voice acting what role should they take.

These days it’s kind of hard to find a celebrity that doesn’t  do it all. Do we count youtubers who voice on their channels? I would for that reason exclude all those epic trailer voice peoples. Lately I  have been watching videos of bassist Davie504. The way he says EPIC, SLAP, Call the Police, you have small Pee Pee.. makes me think he would be good in a funny fighting game as the “fight” “Finish him” kind of guy.

I could also see  Jaiden from Jaiden Animations do some snarky girl main character of a cartoon like Angela Anaconda. Her videos have that quality to it and it would be fun to see her play something that is really not her.

Now I apologise for being the buzzkill that ends the tag here but again if you really wish to do these tag still, just go ahead! Pick any questions from this list or from my old post which you can find here!

Pinkie in Search of a Waifu (Part 3) Aoi Hana

It’s almost Valentine’s day and by the looks of it , I am going to be all by myself.  To prevent such an incident from happening next year , on this blog we have started the quest to find me a Waifu! In this episode we will look at the third of Fred’s four suggestions. After which I will need six more to start our Bachelorette series. Where we pit these girls against each other to earn the roses and find out who will be my waifu! So keep the suggestions coming.  Today we look at the anime Aoi Hana!
Who will get to live with me in my Bachelorette mansion?!

Warning:
This article contains spoilers for the entire series of Aoi Hana. That being said these spoilers are all fairly obvious outcomes of their respective story. As far as I am concerned none of these spoilers ruin the show due to the way the show tells its own story and how the inevitable the outcome of the show feels.

Sweet Blue Flower

What is it with Yuri series and the colour blue? Is blue some sort of symbol colour for gay girls that I am unaware about. I don’t think it’s much of a thing in the Netherlands and my Italian friend didn’t know about it either! Italians love blue so they should know! I really wonder though! Yet I can not let that distract me. Aoi Hana is a show about two childhood friends Akira and Fumi who reunited with each other once they start commuting to their new schools. Both join their respective schools drama club and their paths begin to cross more and more. Fumi is a lesbian woman and Akira is mostly oblivious to love.  We see them form relationships with others from friendly ones to romantic once as we explore what is is truly important in any relationship. This all is set on the background of their drama clubs performing the play Wuthering Heights which in its core is about a toxic relationship. So this is one of those heavy analogies shows!

(I really hate this shwo’s intro.. it has very little to do with the actual show)

The contenders for the Waifu list are limited to the main characters this time, as all four main characters show at the very least a hint of being into women. Most secondary girls or women are rarely given enough depth to see if they are into girls though after watching the entire 11 episode series I can fairly certainly say we got no other contenders. Having said that, my attention has slipped throughout the course of this show a few times so I might have missed a subtlety.

The four main characters are Manjoume Fumi a first year who is socially a bit awkward. She is emotionally very frail and cries a lot and the most fully convinced lesbian in the series. Her best friend Okudaira Akira is about her counterpart. She is bubbly , tiny energetic and  a super positive entity that smiles with everything even her own failures… she is referred to Achan by Fumi. Their childhood tradition. Sugimoto Yasuko is the bisexual popular girl that every girl wants to be with (even the straight ones) the cool kid. She plays basketball and is tall and butch and thusly gets the male lead role in the school play. She has her heart set on Fumi..but keeps a secret in her heart as well. Finally we have Ikumi Kyouko who is Akira’s classmate and she is desperately and very one sidedly in love with Yasuko. She is an artist who joined the drama club to be close to Sugimoto Senpai but gets more than she bargained for when she finds out her new friend’s best friend is in a relationship with the woman she loves.

(Akira, Kyoko, Yasuko, Fumi)

Triangles Everywhere

I will admit I struggled with this anime a bit. It is not necessarily a bad show though. I really loved the story it had to tell. What I like less is the way it is set up. Take for example the main love story that is central in these 11 episodes. Yasuko and Fumi , it is a somewhat toxic relationship where Yasuko is very much depicted as a selfish person. This is shown throughout not one but two triangle relations around the talentful basketball player. First of all there is Kyouko who loves her while she is with Fumi. This sours the relation between Fumi and Kyoko..to an extend. They aren’t mean to another but very tense still. It would have been an interesting dynamic if Sugimoto would not have one sidedly loved her male teacher, kinda using Fumi as a rebound. Throughout the show we also see Fumi notice her relation is not going that well and be more drawn to Akira…who in turn kinda, but not really, shows interest in Kyouko.Who is also desired by her fiancé in name only Kou. It all feels very convoluted for an 11 episode manga and in the end that does form a bit of an issue.

It doesn’t really help that the instigator of everyone’s misery, Sugimoto Yasuko is a fairly horrible person. She is super petty, often has temper tantrums, she is snobbish and selfish and a very VERY poor loser. Near the middle of the show the stage group performs Wuthering Heights, which is about the toxic love between Heathcliff and Catherine and the audience speaks their minds on how terrible Catherine is, she is an analogy for Sugimoto herself. Which brings me to another little gripe I had with this series. This analogy feels a bit hammered in. Wuthering Heights is a fairly well known novel by Emily Bronté and one would figure people who see the play either know the story or go there to support their family.

Instead we see the crowd analyse the story so the anime and manga can make analogies… and that’s not the only times stuff like that happens. For some reason this only happens to Yasuro though. Like the show really wants to hammer in how terrible this person is. By the end of the show she sees the error of her ways ..but because she doesn’t get what she wants she then decides to bail on everyone and go study abroad. While doing this we see newspaper headlines on how the girl has pushed her basketball team to great heights how they need her and now she bails for petty reasons. We see her family acknowledge how petty she is and she mistreat Kyouko to a ridiculous extend. Even when the latter is trying to get closure she is shown to ignore the message that would give the other girl some closure finally. We get it! Sugimoto Yasuko is bad! She will not be my Waifu Pick.

Friendship is love too!

Because of how clearly toxic this relationship between Fumi and Yasuko is from the get go we are all waiting for her to end up with Kyouko or her Achan and the show is at it’s best when the old love is out of the picture. Luckily enough that is plenty of time still. The show really shines when it’s just Achan and Fumi.. or even the little summer camp with all their friends but Yasuko was adorable. Fumi begins to develop feelings for Akira who still has this weird non flirty but very connected kind of way. I really liked those feelings because they actually felt genuine. While Fumi clearly loved Yasuko the doom flag was raised from episode 2 so on a subconscious level I never really bought it.

All the other girls are connected through friendship.. a friendship that deepens over the course of the series and the show does a really fine job of depicting how friendships can mean so much more than just to find your significant other. Fumi has friends, Sugimoto has not, one gets a fairly happy end, the other is miserable. Romance shows tend to .. hype up that significant other over anything in the whole wide world where nothing else matters anymore.. this show keeps its feet firm on the ground.

I might even go as far as to say this isn’t actually a romance show. It’s not about love.. in the romantic way.. it’s about unrequited love and false love more so than real one. It’s about how romantic love can be such a strong desire that sometimes we are just chasing ghosts. Kyouko is one of the strongest examples. Not only is she desperately in love, with sugimoto senpai,  she herself has a suitor who is desperately in love with her. Kou her fiancé in name only is often strung along for a ride that will only inflict pain on him. Even when he asks Akira to help him pick out a perfect give to please her, she immediately knows the gift is to perfect to be from him! They aren’t compatible which made me think that Kyouko and Akira just might be.Kyouko is being pictured as desperate though even if she tries to move on she simply can not  let alone with Kou. In the end we get a girl that has her charm but also still feels kind of mean spirited and also a bit toxic so our little painter will not be moving into the Bachelorette mansion with me!

A blooming flower

That leaves us with Achan and Fumi-Chan , by far the best characters in the entire series. Some of the best characters I have seen in a fair bit and while I do think they would fit nicely together the ending of she show keeps things fairly open. Which apparently is a huuuge issue for people all across the internet. To those people I really have to ask if they watched the same show as me. There are incredibly strong  implications that the two will get together, simply for being two non toxic people and Fumi realising how to cope with relationships in the end. She tells the only cure for unrequited love is moving on gracefully and to only have room in your heart for one love. While Fumi was obsessed and in love with her cousin at the end of the show she realises that wasn’t her first love at all, her first love was Achan..so she could finally let her cousin go. Now she only has one love in her heart which is Achan. Should that love go unanswered she has the tools to move on gracefully. All the flags for a successful relation fall into place at that moment. Fumi will find her happy ending no matter what. We have seen hints that Akira might swing that way as well so it may just be a matter of time.

That being said I can still use the vagueness of the ending to snatch Fumi as my Bachelorette contender. While I love Achan for her quirky behaviour the character is simply way to immature to me. I found her voice a bit annoying in all honesty even though I do like the quirkiness of it I think I would get annoyed with her fairly soon. While I am happy and cheerful minded like her, I do not have the huge amount of energy she has and would not be able to find my rest with her. She is a great and loyal friend who would be fun to hang out with Yet I would get that same energy around since she is Fumi’s best friend as well. The latter has shown she can perfectly live with Achan just being a friend.. as long as I managed to conquer Fumi myself though.

Fumi is the only person I really respect in this series, she has shown growth and has become more confident even if she is still the easily to cry loveable socially awkward girl she was at the beginning. Miss Manjoume has accepted who she is by the end of the show, something she very much struggles with in the beginning. She isn’t as afraid to tease and to have fun. She also isn’t afraid to defend herself even if it hurts others.  I could not be with someone who constantly diminishes themselves just in favor of others.

It’s very annoying when something you love gets a bad review or if that restaurant you like and love to talk about gets called gross a few hours before you go eat there. If I love a person more than anything in the world and they keep devaluing themselves to below everything else.. it kind of feels like that love is being devalued as well. The person that I love more than anything in the world feels like they need to give up everything for others because they are not worth more… that would include they would give up me. I went through that once with an eternal good person.. and that just doesn’t work. You have to somewhat love yourself to be loved.

Fumi does this the best , she matters, what she wants matters. When we first see her she can barely pick anything from a menu.. or a club to join .. but in the end she asks for what she wants, she tells people her needs and lives by it and we see a much happier Fumi, who doesn’t just cry from sadness but for the first time we see her cry with happiness. Those type of tears are from a woman I could see myself being with! Those are the tears of a strong woman.

In the end I got to watch a very enjoyable show, that is slightly bogged down by the character of Sugimoto. There is just to much going on with her and things drag on to long in her romance. I hated the unnecessarily nude intro as it barely has anything to do with the show and skipped it every time. Yet there is still a quite enjoyable anime that stumbles for me around the fourth till seventh episode. Those could have been removed and put at the end to give us a stronger sense of closer for an even better show.  The art style with it’s fluffy looking backgrounds took some time to get used to but grew on me as charming. All in all a good anime to put on for valentines if you do not want something overly sweet.

Pokémon can be Anime Girls too!

In my previous blog I tried I tried to add some depth to this blog by telling you about my beliefs and go a bit philosophical. Since I aim to mostly be kawaii and endearing though I gotta bring some cuteness to this place as well. Hopefully this title already drew you in .. because it is absolutely true! Pokémon can be anime girls too! The fusion between these things is a phenomenon called Moemon!

I want to be Kawaii-Desu
Like no one ever was!

Welcome to the wonderful world of rom-hacking, where goku can be in a pokémon game! For many years people have added their favorite things into the world of pokémon! Like candies, memes and fusions. Yet of course only the most briljant of minds have come up with the ultimate idea. We made guns and warships into anime girls, we made soda cans into anime girls and even bowser. If we can try to wrinkle our sheets with Soda surely some underaged pokémon cosplayers should be possible right?! YES!

In the world of Moemon you catch little girls in your balls and command them to do whatever you want. I am sure this idea will please some of my readers but me myself I mostly like it because it is super cute. All the girls have adorable outfits and it is just a treat to find your new cute anime girls and make them do battle. There is something about a cute maid girl using rest that I just find much more charming than an actual Snorlax using it. Also my brain works over time. What if Ash got a Moe instead of regular Pikachu? Some scenes clearly would have to be rewritten. The ketchup thing would hold up nicely though! Bye Bye Butterfree would suddenly have some clear Yuri implications so I do see this show really working!

It’s a Shoujo World we live in.
TUTUTUTUTU

Now Moemon is not just a pokémon fan game it’s a phenomenon a series of hacks that still get better and regularly receive updates. The most complete version you can play and the most commonly found around the web is the Fire-Red rom hack. In this day and age it has added new moves, it added the fairy typing (which only existed after Kalos.. thus not in most playable rom hacks)  and even adds some Mega evolution Moe to the mix. Kawaii! However this is also the only one that is currently not optimised for randomisation. For those who don’t know what I mean.. there are little programs you download that reshuffle your pokédex order in some shape way or form so you don’t always have to pick from Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander in the beginning, it might be randomised to anything.

It can also randomise, field encounters, static encounters and even pokemon trainers use…as well as items , trainer names, their sprites and more So who knows.. instead of a pidgey you might encounter a Mewtwo. You just run a rom through your randomiser, pick some settings you like and ponf! It spits out a new rom! For the moe surprise effect I really would recommend playing a randomised version.

(Giggity)

Luckily Moemon is also available for Pokémon Platinum, Pokémon Heartgold and Pokémon Emerald. These can be randomised for the most crazy shoujo experience you ever had. I might do a Emerald Randomiser Moemon Nuzlocke slow blog at one point if you people would be up for it! I really don’t want to walk across Kanto anymore for a while. Johto or Hoenn I would be fine with! Unfortunately these games are not that easy to download. It requires patching some roms fiddling with emulators and applying a randomiser yourself. It’s all fairly easy stuff but you need some help of our good friend google to actually get it right. I am really terrible with these kinds of things for some reason so if I ever do that let’s play thingy don’t shoot me if something completely glitches out!

I wanna be a Moe!
MOEMON ADVANCED

Unfortunately Moemon .. as for right now at least, is not a lot more than a sprite swap. Which means that the story is exactly the same as in the original games. Moe’s are still referred to as Pokémon and no dialogue or trainer models have been replaced.  While the fire red version has received modern updates and features the fairy typing , altered stats , mega evolutions and the likes you still fight Giovanni and Lance.. and of course that guy with the really good knows that always keeps smelling you later.

Trough yet another mod you can install onto the game you can replace Moe Umbreon and Moe Espeon by Moe versions of Glaceon and Sylveon respectively that is where the changes end. I would love to see a game that features Moe in the story and perhaps a certified trainer sprite. Instead of Giovanni maybe we can fight Brock.. who has plans to …. well everyone who saw a few episodes of the series can fill this in.  You know I would like a Moemon world.

That being said however there is still plenty to love when just playing for the sprites. They are all so cute and there has gone a lot of effort and work into these.  Which is why I vastly prefer to play Emerald or Heart Gold.. . there are more Moe’s to catch and with the randomiser you never know what will show up where. Lapras on the starting route? Pidgey on Steven’s team.. depending on how you randomise it can all happen in a bonkers little adventure that has never looked cuter. The Moe’s all look soooooo good. I haven’t encountered a single ugly one! Now I kind of would like to play Heartgold Moe because there is even more monsters for me to find but it is the hardest one to mod! Not sure if I will be able to make it work!

Diamond-Senpai and Pearl-Chan

Moemon is a passion project and it shows from how many versions there actually are. Most games have their own separate sprites for their Moe’s so maybe the Charizard from Heart Gold is just a bit more tsun looking while the one in Fire Red might be more adorable. It shows the gargantuan amount of work that went into this project and makes it fun to play all the games because everything is their own thing.

Sprites are improved upon, so the next time you return to the same game it might look different as well. It has a fairly healthy, or at least alive, community. They keep creators keep plenty of variety in their moes as well. Of course the basic and stage 1 moemon look younger than a stage 2 as it should be and overall you can really feel the hard work  of everyone involved.

While Moemon might not be the most interesting Romhack in terms of gameplay it at least knows how to not mess with a classic. The games are the original so they are nice and easy and you can breeze through without too much trouble. Which is perfect for a game about Moe girls pretending to be pokémon. We don’t really care about the gameplay of those lewdable ship games either, so this should not be an exception either. It’s about cuteness and great pixel art.

It’s about how Pokémon can be cute girls too .. instead of flower-frogs or sleeping bear like things. Snorlax can now choose to be a nun!  So many of these sprites are such nice and lovely designs and I want to cosplay them all! Unfortunately as a dutchie I am fairly tall so I need to find a way to shrink myself down first. Anyway I am sure to embark on a journey with Pika-Kun and Voir-Senpai soon! I do hope i can share this journey with you but whatever you do .. never lewd MY moes!

Conversation with my plushies: Pinkie talks about her beliefs

Hello my dear Island Guests and welcome to another geeky lifestyle post. In the first blog tag I ever created “The Super Happy Love Blog Award”  I already told you that I love about myself that I am not afraid to cling onto the child inside me, talking to my plushies. However I also told you this stemmed from a bit of a deeper , perhaps naive belief in “magic” if you will. So with this blog I wanted to talk to you a bit more about what I belief in.  This also fuels my idea to make this category a bit more about myself giving me more direction in my topics, like we discussed in the Episode 0 of A Bit of History. So Yay me for multitasking!

There is no knowledge there is ignorance.

I am not a woman of god, while I do not believe in god I do think god is real. While that sounds conflicting it still is very true. You see while I am not a woman of faith I do believe that the world is bigger than us.  There is plenty of things we can not comprehend. Miracles happen fairly regularly, like a mother gaining strength to rescue her baby or a man surviving a wound or sickness he would not have survived just because he wanted to see his significant other. Do I think it is god? No there is bound to be some logic behind it, but it is knowledge we can not comprehend yet. Maybe one day. I still believe these things are forces of nature but of a nature we can not explain yet. I do feel our emotions however play a critical part in it. Somehow these emotions empower us or alter the environment around us to create a certain effect.

(Peach had the power of emotion once…and a talking umbrella!)

The closest thing I have seen to an explanation I have seen is the (pseudo) science of Noetics. In the book The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown this science is given the spotlight. It claims that ice crystals have frozen up more ugly in times of a russian crisis while in that same area during a time of welfare the ice formed much more beautifully. It focusses on trying to measure how consciousness can influence the outside world. While the science claims to have results on several occasions these discoveries have usually been declared invalid. Mostly because all proof is either subjective or those who saw the scientists results where connected with them and thusly deemed biassed. So while nothing is really “proven” we all play music to our baby, send it positive thoughts to be big and strong,  talk to our plants to make it grow we even play music to our plants at times. On a subconscious level we can all feel it.. there is more to the world than we know. We are still very ignorant. We once KNEW  you could sail of the edge of the earth. We once KNEW the atom was the smallest part.  We once knew that pluto was a planet. Yet all that knowledge turned out to be nothing more than ignorance in disguise and just because it was labeled knowledge we followed it like sheep.

(Beep Beep, Yeah Science B*tch)

There is only Passion

Knowledge is subjective and often temporary. We seek to proof that what we we think we know is real but oftenly turns out differently. Eating a lot of eggs made you strong in the age Gaston from Beauty and the Beast lived in… eggs killed you  just a few years ago and even more recently we discovered that eggs might not be as bad as we thought. The actual force to make something real .. is the drive to proof that it is real. One has a theory they believe in very hard, they find other people who share your views and fight to prove alongside each other. Thusly they end up in an area with plenty of people who share a form of consciousness and passion about something. Just like that woman trying to lift a car to save her baby, who is able to because there doesn’t exist a doubt in her consciousness only thinking about her child, the same in reverse applies to those who tried to break down the atom.. trying to prove it’s the smallest part. They deeply believed it could not be done.. thus it could not be done. It really was the smallest part.

(A surprisingly on brand scientist)

Do not get me wrong, I do not believe you can run a marathon by simply believing in it. I am just not sure if that is because your body is incapable of doing it or because there is  always one of your friends around thinking… they did not train they are never gonna make it. If every single person in the world would all deeply belief in you with passion.. no disruptions.. you just might make it. Stopping would never occur in your brain, no one on the side would demotivate you and put that thought in your head. Like that first guy that ran a marathon… no one believed he could not do it! Sure he dropped dead afterwards but he did make it. That can not be done without faith or without passion!

(You can do it! You got the power! Elimnate doubt…don’t run a marathon!)

There is Emotion there is no peace.

A second element I wish to discuss is talking about what is considered real and what is not. The tv show South Park, of all things,  once asked some very interesting questions which I now will use for myself. Reality’s definition is “the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them” Existing is being described as being “objectively real”. So how can we proof that something is real if we need it to exist..but for us to proof that it exists it needs to be objectively real?  South Park stated that Luke Skywalker inspired many young man to be like him, which is more an ideal and could still count as not real. But he inspired the in the real word existing belief of Jedi-ism, that’s pretty real. I heard about people beating depression based on ideals of fictional characters so that is pretty real as well.  For me Kamina from Tengen Toppa made me believe I can defeat being sick or at least not be taken down by it.. I care about my friends to much to be done in by a stupid thing like being sick. So I fight! I will do the impossible and hey I am still around so Kamina is pretty friggin real to me.

(Kamina really is my hero.. so thats why you see so much of him)

This finally brings me to the god thing. I belief he is real because people believe he is real. To them he IS real. Because real doesn’t mean what we think it does. Real is a subjective term rather than an objective therm. Sure there is objective realism as well, I mean I can’t deny that stone stairs Rocky ran on is there..but what is it really? For some it is FACTUALLY a symbol of perseverance for some it’s a big hassle to climb and yet for others it is just a that stair. Does it mean that is not really a symbol? No! Because that guy REALLY got inspired. We focus on objective reality to much because if is easy, it offers us a peace of mind as it does not require us to think about it.  Yet it is also fairly useless.

(Ugh I get tired just looking at these stairs)

Let’s change the stairs to a meatball sub for example. Factually it is a meatball sub…but if you are eating it no one thinks.. this is a meatball sub. You either think “Hmm this is a delicious sub” or “Eeew so many carbs” or maybe “This is so gross”. To YOU a meatball sub is never just a meatball sub. What truly matters is your perception of it. Same goes for those stairs in a way. Walking up those steps either inspires you and makes you feel good, or they tire you out. Perhaps you fear breaking your neck on them, or sigh in annoyance as you are already slightly late and this is just another delay. Objective reality means jack diddly squat. I have a pink pillow…(surprise)  but to me it’s not a pillow, it’s something that makes my house look more comfy and makes me feel more at home. No one thinks just pillow.
So yes god is as real as people make him, people take inspirations from him, people love him and people feel good about it. They don’t think .. ah just god it impacts them.. and that is what makes things real to me! So yes I do not believe in him.. but he does exist.

(South Park God..kinda looks like a Pokémon!)

My Chains are broken

Now I hope I made at least a bit of sense before right now because I am about to throw it all away. Ever since I was little my mother has made me eat food by making it talk, telling me it would be so sad if it would not be eaten. She gave voices to objects I just tossed aside and when I played and talked to my plushies when I was a kid I had the courage to tell them stuff no one else knew. I did feel bad for the food that I left, so I ate it… it did inspire me to eat.. so in a way this is real. I did feel bad for my toys I did not love as much as others and just tossed aside. I apologised to them and cleaned them up.

(Sorry for not cleaning you up Mr Duck.. not my actually toy but would have loved it)

That voice inspired me and yes that voice factually and in objective reality belonged to mom.. but it still made me care for the toy. So in subjective reality it was not my mother’s voice. I was in the store the other day and wanted to replace what I had selected for lunch with something else and when I was putting it back I heard the food cry in my head. They did not want to be returned. Last time I bought the same mini rolls the food had been utterly destroyed by some youth who just tosses the packages around or just break it for fun so the store has to toss them out! I did not want that to happen to them so I bought them and had them as lunch for the next few days. I heard them cheer in my basket as I gave up  on my alternative idea. I actually felt really good and it made my food taste a lot nicer because I knew my food was happy!

My plushies are the same, I treat them all with respect, because when I get one I do not just see a plushie. I see Yuni, the pink somewhat posh unicorn. When i first held it I just imagined a personality of it. When I won a green unicorn in a theme park I did not see a cotton stuffed horse toy, I saw Cohn the derpy green pony that loved to cosplay but always looked ridiculous.  When Lita, Hawnd and Horsey where bestowed upon me I saw a triplet of singing unicorns. (Yes I have a fair few unicorn plushies) Who where to tiny to fend for themselves so they had to be protected by Yuni and Cohn. What made me come up with these personalities. Was it just my brain? Maybe something ineffable force made me feel this was correct. Even if it was just my brain… what of noetic sciences are right? What if thought and consciousness do have mass? That would make  Yuni, Cohn, Lita, Hawned , Horsey and Fay Bell (my tiny pink unicorn that speaks with a french accent and has a taste for fine pastries) real to an extend as well. Mono is there as well she is Tsundere.

(I told you Cohn liked weird costumes.. he loves his pink leopard tie)

So I better treat them nicely. I may not be fully able to understand it yet but one thing I know for sure. It is not others who define our reality.  My plushies are “soon to be cash money” for some, a cute decoration for others, for one friend it’s a slap in the face because I blew him off to go to the pub as I wanted to spend my money more on Ai the Sylveon at a con.  To may they all are something that make me smile, cheer me up and are always there for me when others can not be there. They sometimes sing, sometimes they are insulted, and other times they just look pretty. Emotions and passion create our real reality so think of me what you will but never think. Pinkie is a blogger…or those are just plushies. Because nothing ever is just that word we use to define it with.

Do you have your own beliefs? Do you like following a certain faith? Do you think I am crazy? Let me know in the comments.

A BIT of History (Episode 0) : What is Pinkie doing now?

One of the hardest things to do as a blogger is come up with a nice topic to blog about. At least to me. I do not like doing episodic reviews as I want this blog to be all about positivity. Love (in the non lewd way) is the theme of my blog. In an attempt to structure my writing a bit I am trying to make “columns” or series in my categories to give me some focus on what to do. For example I love Pinkie is looking for a Waifu (new installment coming as soon as i finish Aoi Hana)  as it fits the theme of love very well. The temtem journals fit what I love well so that one works as well. While I love catchable creature games there is another category of games I love. Retro Games! I love traveling to the past to relive memories…..hmmmm that gives me an idea.

Back in time …...BUT TWICE!

Since the dawn of time man has dreamed of going back in time! When we play retro games we travel back in time. Maybe to the zero’s maybe to the nineties heck we might even go back to the eighties. I prefer not to go much further than that though. Atari had a LOT of LEWD games  and since I am going to ask you on suggestions on what to play.. I prefer to exclude those as much as I possibly can! One of the most infamous ones fits the secondary theme for example. Because going back to the past has been done before! James Rolfe better known as the Angry Video Game Nerd, is one of my biggest inspirations to do my thingies online! He is the one that is gonna take you back to the past. To play some shitty games that suck ass. I am gonna take you back to the past. Then I take you back to the past. Woooo Timeception!

(I kind of wanted to edit unicorn parts to my brain but I stopped myself)

How do we do this you might ask? Well it’s very simple! I will play and review retro games set in different times.  For example I’ll start with some prehistoric themed games on the SNES then I will most likely take you back to ancient greece on the NES and than back to the SNES to duke it out with some ancient romans. While not everything is set in (the) stone (age)  yet…HA FUNNY JOKE, it seems like a nice way to play the type of games that I love in a structured way offering me a steady amount of content for you guys! Plus I am actually talking about things I love so yay that’s what this blog is all about!

(I am not good at pixel art so if anyone wants to make a 16 bit pinkie! )

Pinkie who?

Now I know what you are thinking! You can’t just do that much timeception. Going back while taking us back to the past! That is waaaay to dangerous! But do not worry my friends I have invented something fictional that is totally gonna help me out! It’s a time machine that helps me turn myself into two dimensions..or the third if I ever need to..but in a rather low  polygon count. As long as I don’t go over 64 bits in during these travels I shall be fine and this machine helps me do it. I call it the Time and Limited Dimensions in Games device… or TALDIG for short. and I made it look like a crane game! Why? Well no one plays with an empty crane game plus in 2d games those usually where non interactable background objects so it will be safe! It’s not like I’ll find a police box or phone booth anymore… this one is just a bit harder to board. Luckily there is plenty of room for all my Plushies on the inside

(Totally Orginal THINGY Don’t steal!)

A brave time time explore like needs a weapon as well. Since I am Timely Bored of going through the hoops  that is capturing retro footage in the classic way. So yes I will be able to use the powers of my Sonic Savestate if needed. However that does not mean these games are not otherwise available to me, so make no assumptions my friends! It just allows us to play some fun hacks as well! Of course I will also try to play as fair as possible. However to make sure I can progress enough for a review I will occasionally use my trustworthy device.  Now a lot of these games have multiplayer modes. Unfortunately my companion drew the short straw when testing the less successful prototype of the TALDIG (I cheated) and kind of got lost in time and games. So if you ever encounter a pink arcade cabinet with a purple girl in yelling for help… let me know! Or if you want or be a companion check my about or contact page!… Displacement in time, loss of dimension and death in a game at own risk. Until this situation has been resolved I shall not test multiplayer modes and describe everything from a single player stance.

Looking Forward to go backward when going backward.

So how will our travel schedule look like? Well you have a say in it but the first three destinations in our journey HAVE been decided already. We will start in a time where there where no land creatures yet just to be propelled into the dinosaur age. We shall do this with E.V.O. The Search for Eden on SNES. After we evolved our fish into a strong dinosaur we shall move onto the dawn of man! Flintstones the treasure of Sierra Madrock was a game I loved to rent over and over again as a kid! With hard work I managed to get to the last world just to have to return it right before finishing. Can I complete it this time around? Using my trustworthy sonic tool .. odds are YES! Who knows! Then we move on to a game I have been literally clubbed on the head for! Joe and Mac! Also on SNES. After that one has been done I am still undecided though we may play Turtles in time which does have a prehistoric level or we may leave the SNES behind for a while as we move on to ages where people began to melt stuff.

(I did not evolve gils fast enough)

Altered Beast on Sega Genesis has ancient greek themes and so does Battle for Olympus on NES. I also plan to revisit some of the Asterix games I used to play as a kid. For those who don’t know who Asterix the Gaul is, he is a punchy sort of nordic looking  guy that is the titular character of a popular french comic here. Or at least he used to be. Not sure how well he fairs nowadays. Super Ghost and Ghouls can represent the medieval age but I of course will be playing Knights of the Round as well. However time does not have to be a fully linear path, we can bounce around a bit.  Every game that has a year in it, like street fighter 2010 and even….. Ho…. ugh… Hong …. I can’t …. .. but I must! Even Hong Kong 97 would be a suggestable stop. That being said..sport games are excluded from the suggestions because of this namesake. Unless it’s stuff Like the Spirit of Speed 1937 (which is a history based racing game)  or any future based ones. Yet stuff like Hong Kong 97 or Egypt 1157 AV are still far away into the future.

(Me transforming into beast mode)

Rules of Time Time Travel

Now I usually do not get a lot of suggestions  and I feel like i might be older than a lot of you, I honestly do not know your ages guys. I estimate my average reader to be like 24 maybe? So to encourage interaction and suggestions, save for the three set in stone. Those being E.V.O , Flintstones Treasure of Sierra Madrock and Joe and Mac, anyone making a suggestion in the comments while have their channel shouted out in the post you suggested. Regardless if I would have come up with it myself. So yay! Free promotion! That’s some love right there! Of course I can not complete every single suggestion, the more recent your request the lower the chance that I will be able to play it (unless it’s for pc for obvious reasons)

(Yes this is an actual …sort of.. game)

I will always write something nice about the games so if you feel like challenging me by suggestion a badly rated one, you are very welcome. Games about time travel are always valid regardless their setting, however I plan to do Chrono Trigger as the end of the series or least of a season if I start doing those. Games set in multiple time periods like Turtles in Time or Day Dreamin Davey are always fine and you can suggest them whenever we are in time. Please do not make me play Bill and Ted’s excellent adventure though! I will play it if suggested but I might not have much nice things to say about  that one. Games years are allowed unless they are sports games nor will I for example review the Anno series in one go! Separate entries are still allowed. A game has to be at least 10 years old for you to suggest. Otherwise I am not taking you back to the past twice. Games set in the future are still perfectly okay.. I am perfectly content with taking you back to the past to take you back to the future.

(I just told him I liked Ceasar Salad!! Waaaah!)

So that is a lot of rules but you can forget them and just shout a game, I mean I invented the TALDIG , I am a mastermind , I can weave your game in my story somehow but it would be fun if we follow the rules just a bit at least. Now since I stopped doing my greetings cards at the end of each both I will leave you with some closing words. You just read a post in the present about a future where I take you back to the past to play games that take you back to the past. However in the future of that future I may take you back to the past to play a game that takes you to the future or the present even. Of course by the time that you are reading that post, that present may already be the past!

(The Soundtrack of Adventures.. I do not kwow who this Dr is…but he stole my tune!)

It’s over meanie Villian! Top 5 Epic Hero themes

So weird as I am , I  have wondered about some big questions about anime. Like “what if characters realise they are 2d?” Would they fold themselves underneath girl locker room doors like Paper Mario could do? Another question I asked, would you be the most powerful character in anime if you just named your attack *0.5 second click noise*  or klk for those who want that written out? I mean you’d be A LOT faster than just about anyone out there. A third question leads me to today’s topic. “What if anime characters could hear the music playing’. I pity the villains who’d have to hear these five themes. Even with those first notes they can almost taste the fist they are about to receive in their face.

Theme Number 5: Tsuna Awakens
(Katekyo Hitman Reborn)

I considered Giorno’s theme for this spot but lately that has become a bit of a meme! It still does the job of convincing the hero will now proceed to be the bad guy but  when a villian hears this they might just think… man that is that overplayed thing. Tsuna the protagonist of Katekyo Hitman Reborn does not have that problems as this is one of the most slept on series I have ever watched. Most likely this has to do with the fact that the series is just 24 episodes or random slice of life  stuff.. with a naked angry boy before it actually starts to go anywhere and even then it’s a bunch of extremely wacky things going on. From Mafia’s that host some weird kind of tournament against each other, to time traveling babies. A young man takes over a little girl’s body and there are boxes with small animals inside that can fuse with main casts weapons. Well I say small animals, I am pretty sure there was a kangaroo as well. Weirdly enough it also all blends together! I really loved this show..after that false start in the beginning at least.

Tsuna Awakens is one of the more unique anime themes to me. It feels more akin to something you find in a Rocky movie than in anime. It has this beautiful eighties movie feeling to it as well and the classical, more western instruments make it a much more tranquil experience than most reversal themes. This gets you hyped without getting you hyper and I like it. When those first synthesiser notes hit, the villains could hear that something is wrong. They have their Nanda phrase to usher.  As soon as the trumpets hit they know they know they are trouble. The violins spell the victory flag for the hero definitely has been given. “BAKANA” is all they have left to shout before they are subsequently dealt with. There is no way this theme could ever fit a villain or more angry hero. There is a calm determination trough this song that just knows this hero will not make mistakes! Bye Bye Mister Villain.

Hitman reborn had such an interesting soundtrack and had some great heroic themes throughout its run. Flames of Resolution and Stand with Friends are great songs  as well but not feel as unique to this show as Tsuna awakens. If I had to give the song a colour it would be orange which both the tint of Tsuna and in some ways reborn. I love this song dearly and like the entire show to me is a different take on the genre’s tropes.I even want to watch the show again! *Fangirls on as we go to the next songs*

Theme 4: Passionate Duelist (Yu-Gi-Oh)

After my recent OWLS post my passion for Yu-Gi-Oh has been reawakened. During almost the entire post I listened to this song on loop, alternating with it GX counterpart Yudai’s theme. While even has more victory for the hero written over it this theme has that all important quality that Yu-Gi-Oh needs written over it.  Passionate Duelist is much more easy to talk over. “This is exactly the moment I have been waiting for, I activate my trap card PINK DEUS EX MACHINA” Now your turn becomes mine! Draaaaaw!

There is a flow in this song that is absolutely briljant.. that tranquility but swelling intensity will make your rival duelist thing “Shit .. epic card reveal… and oooh nooo there is a pause for explanation big plays will follow”  and right he is… after activating your trap you pull out an epic draw that allows you to summon Mary Sue MCGUFFIN : THE ULTIMATE HERO! Which has exactly the effect you need even if you never had such a card before in your deck or if your opponent is using an extremely niche tactic! This music tells your opponent that you will most certainly NOT be send to the shadow realm.. even if that is a dubismn and not real in the japanese version anyway. Even if you do not have the right cards in your hands.. when Passionate Duelist starts playing for you don’t even have to follow the rules.

When I play the Pokémon Trading Card Game with my friends or Cardfight Vanguard (Both a lot cheaper to get decent decks than Yu-gi-oh)  I play this theme and sometimes they even give up when it starts! I even managed to bluff my way to victory once! Such a great theme!
So let’s get your game on and be a passionate duelist as well because these card games are great!

Theme 3: You Say Run (My Hero Academia)

I rewrote this bit after first putting Ultimate Battle from Dragon Ball Super on this spot before. I love that show  a fair bit more than I love MHA. The latter is a great show and Ultimate Battle might even be the better song…but only if you watch the sub.  The Dub version of Ultimate Battle is absolutely trash, but hey at least we got plenty of very cool fan versions.
While I do not care about MHA all that much it did gift us with one hell of a hero theme in the form of You Say Run. The fact that I want to place this lower on my list but I actually can’t says enough on how good it is. It’s overplayed and a bit to casual for my taste but that is about all I can fault it for.

(PINKIE BAKA YOU CAN”T NOT LIKE MHA!!!)

For all intents and purposes of this list when you say run starts playing it’s one of the biggest victory flags for heroes I have ever seen in an anime. Mostly because this show is literally about heroes versus villains in the purest form of the world but also the way the song is constructed. Starting slow for any dramatic reflection shot.. before going into some generic combat for the first few punches just to appreciate the hero’s getting more ground little by little. Most songs  and reversals are instant. Once the music starts playing villains are done for. You say run leaves some room .. as if it’s toying a bit with you showing some epic action still to also highlight the villains before slowly seeing the ground crumble beneath the enemy. When the song hits it’s full potential you know there is no escape for the villians and that our heroes WILL GO BEYOND!

This is one of those “goes with everything” songs like Guile’s theme and it is very much true. This song goes with everything, it is cleverly written to convey the victory emotion without needing any specific form of context. Which makes it one of the all time greats. Yet it is also why it will never go beyond a third spot for me. This might be the theme of My Hero Academia but it doesn’t feel tied to it. It would work just as well in Bleach or Shokugeki no Soma.. or that Handball anime thing people are currently very into.

Theme 2: Before My Body is Dry (Kill la Kill)

Kill la Kill is amongst my favorite anime ever. I mean look at how insane the story is. A girl’s father is killed with the other half of her scissors so she feeds blood to her school girl outfit to get more powerful.  She fights the head of the school and her mother who is the head of an evil clothing corporation. And when I say an evil clothing corporation I am applying the adjective to the word clothing and not to the corporation. Though I guess that is pretty evil as well.. so I guess it’s an evil evil clothing company.  Among the angry girls greatest rivals are great enemies like a Kendo Teacher, A Band Geek, A masochist and a one eyed insane ballerina, and a rainbow haired hag. Her greatest ally a secret spy organisation called Nudist Beach, who live up to their name mostly. Now that is great anim

(Hmm I wonder who my favorite character is…..)

Now we have established that trumpets are a weakness of the villains, electric guitars also oftenly get the job done.. and this song has the latter covered in spades. But there is one thing that will ALWAYS make an anime villain lose the fight.  It’s the power of Engrish. If you hear a song with Lyrics and it has Engrish in it then you know you are in the end face. This song is basically the anthem of Engrish. “In the dusty basement where we met , Me you surprise me much because you’re talking now’  While I get what they are saying it is hilarious! The song is clearly about Ryuko finding Senketsu so when she calls it sweetheart later on I am cracking up on the floor. Yet for some reason this theme is still so epic that each time it plays you shiver a little.

The insanity of the show is perfectly reflected in this song and maybe the Engrish is intentional. It makes no sense.. just like this show! I mean they fight a ball of yarn, by having the deturgonist run in a huge hamster wheel while she wears a bancho suit! There are so many jokes about croquettes that I feel like them each time I see this. There are Mecha’s you entere in your swimsuit.. nothing makes sense and I adore it! We even see letters of attack names or organisation names crush buildings! Just for being spoken! A show as insane as this needs a show as bonkers as this.. oh andof course there is that one form Ryoko gets!

I feel something something….Initial D

Theme 1: Brave Heart (Digimon)

Those who only have watched the dub version of digimon might not have any idea what I am talking about when referring to Brave Heart. This track was the track that played at the digivolution of the digital monsters like Agumon, Patamon Biyomon and all the others. It comes into play at most transformations and in the vast majority of the Digimon adventures series.. if it plays for longer than the actual transformation you just know the fight is over.  Those bell like sounds the background give this song some magical qualities that made me fall absolutely in love with it. When I rewatched digimon in sub as research for digimon roleplay I hosted my heart pounded in my chest. I did not remember how good this show actually was!

Would a villian digimon hear this song not only would the situation be resolved he would see a weird flying bunny pig transform into an angel, a little plant  grow into a cactus and later even a pixie ..or if we count Digimon Tri..i that same little plant thing could digivolve into a rosey dominatrix even. Nothing sells the fact that you are going to beat the frick out of your opponent than your formerly evil cat suddenly transforms into an angel. To bad that they used Butterfly when that angel than turned into a pink fairy dog dragon surrounded by rainbows or I could have used that one! I do like Holydramon  (or Magnadramon in dub) a lot! Brave Heart to me is that one song that symbolises that moment the hero comes back in so many ways. It comes together so nicely in such a jamming and iconic tune that to me it’s the greatest.

It is weird how this feels nostalgic even if I watched this in dutch originally, that’s just a testament to how right this feels. It feels Digimon, it feels unique and it feels powerful. That’s what makes this such a great theme and I will treasure this one as it holds both sentiment and some personal memories. What is your favorite “heroic turnabout”  song?
Let me know which ones you love and let’s love our favorite heroes!

Grim is not always good: Gretel and Hansel

Hello my dear island guests, today I want to talk to you about something  I did not particularly enjoy. I simply haven’t seen that much good movies late and I feel like a movieto is the cocktail for today since I haven’t done one in a good while. So today we look at the Gretel and Hansel movie. A incredibly mediocre movie that almost caused me to take a nap in the cinema. Yet while I could make more entertaining jokes on why you should not see this movie.. I thought we make this post more lovely and positive by examining why you SHOULD go see it despite of its flaws!  Or at least determine WHO amongst us should.

The January Curse

The first month of the year is the where movies go to die a silent death. It’s the month where Hollywood has a potty break and we get what is in the bowl as holdovers until the good movies come out again. Movies that release in january are rarely any good and unfortunately Gretel and Hansel is no real exception. It stars Sophia Lillis who played Beverly Marsh (the young one)  in It and It 2, as Gretel and Alice Krige aka the Borg Queen as Holda the witch. Samuel Leakey …. is also there and is named Hansel in this movie. Gretel and Holda have an interesting weird synergy..at times so if very awkward mentorships are a thing you enjoy, this already is a movie for you! Hansel’s acting is about as wooden as the trees he keeps trying to chop He brings the same credibility to a role as your child during their mid school play. So if you want to experience that mid school play sensation visit this movie for Hansel.

The movie is not to afraid to alter the classical story we all know and love. While Hansel and Gretel is the framework, Gretel and Hansel is not afraid to take the story in an entirely different route. The concept is even very nice. Gretel is an odd girl that has some visions and some magical potential, so rather than just trying to feed on Hansel the witch Holda is trying to tempt Gretel to take up magic. It changes the dynamic in an interesting way. Rather than a house made of candy,  the witch conjures a feast every day, we see a mystery where it comes from. Rather than being hostile the witch is rather friendly and there may be an actual other evil out there. Unfortunately it doesn’t really pan out as non of these ideas gets enough time to breath. Imagine all these new refreshing ideas to be glasses of red wine. Mixing them in theory could result in a great blend but we end up with something that is not decanted properly and none of the tastes really pokes through the thick body. This movie is an interesting case study though on how you got to treat ingredients with love rather than just add fancy ingredients and hope for a good dish. So if you ever want to participate in a cooking show this movie has a lesson to teach! It is also an interesting subject of that dreaded january curse.

Greasy Magic

While this is never a so bad that it’s good movie for anyone interested in the medium beyond just being entertained this is a quite okay film to sit through. The odd pacing and the odd choices it make for a great example to improve yourself with. The flaws are apparent enough that this movie can work as a lesson on how just adding ideas does not make for an interesting movie. It lacks something critical to a horror movie. It lacks empathy. Gretel and Hansel are very bland characters. Their world is extremely gloomy, like virtually everyone is starving, their mother threatens to axe murder them, there is plague. zombies and despair abound  and it all means nothing. We begin the story with a fairy tale of a girl with a pink hood which got saved from disease but turned evil as she got healed by dark powers that now belonged to her. We see her throughout the movie but we are never sure what hear meaning to this movie is. However seeing her is never a good sign. Yet.. we do not care. There is no emotional build up for Gretel and Hansel…. or for the pink girl. With a world so gloomy, they seem to be off badly always anyway so it’s really hard to care. So in a way this movie is like one of those crash test cars… it isn’t great on the road but it helps us build better things.

The movie makes some odd but amusing choices in their world building as well.  For example the conduit for magic is fat.. or grease. If a witch her hands are oily they can cast magic better. So Holda, that is the witch her name according to IMDb has a naked cat.. because they produce a lot of fat. It’s not like this movie explains it.. this is just some random trivia I heard. The scene where Gretel rubs her oily head to be able to cast magic in a dire situation made me laugh!  Gretel discovers this tiny door behind a wall, that leads to a secret room that is huge. Why is the door that tiny? Why is there a door anyway? We later find out the room is accessible to its user in a very different way. Why does this door fascinate me so much more than all those shadows in the movie? The door is a perfect metaphor to this movie it’s an element that should have been better thought out or not have been there.
It feels like this should have been a two hour movie but we lost 40 minutes on the cutting room floor. This movie is like one of those colour by numbers pictures.. but the background has been left out. What would have been there if we could colour in the full picture! It is the intriguing mystery of squandered potential.

A beautiful tale sans story

Now with unlikeable characters,  a story that doesn’t get pay off and world building that seems bigger than this movie can contain it feels like I hated this movie but like I said it is an interesting case study.  Should you just go see the movie just to see a bad movie? No! Yet I do think this movie is still very compelling to those who wish to learn about movies. Not only is it a great example of how great elements do not make a great movie yet, it also  has some genuinely good elements to it. Things in movies that are often overlooked. The cinematography of this movie is absolutely stunning. The way shots are framed , the tension of scenes , the placement of shots, the setting itself. It’s an exceptionally good looking movie. At the very least for a horror movie. There is a great balance of the minimalism of virtually all scenes but the meals. It almost seems as if the movie becomes more colorful when the luscious meals hit the table. The scary scene almost seem delayed or slowed. When Holda suddenly pulls out a blond braid from her mouth (shown in the trailer)  lingers on and on and on. The timing of that imagery in that story creates for a deep and tense moment.

Since the movie lacks mostly lacks other strengths there is little to distract you from these images. Normally you can get lost in a story , great acting or by an amazing world but this movie highlights another side of cinema what we often overlook. There aren’t that much special effects nor are they THAT special.. show here we can appreciate the great work of the camera team. We underestimate the work of people behind a camera way to often, thinking it is as simple as clicking a button and letting the device use record. Yet there  is so much more behind it. So many people are involved with working with a movie yet we all we think of is the director, maybe the writer and of course the actors. While this movie is not a high flyer by any means it does show us how important the other people are in movies.
While I showed how easy it is in this post to get hung up by a mediocre story, wooden acting or odd world, perhaps we could also look at a bad movie as a reminder that there are still hard working people that deserve praise. This movie serves as a great reminder!

Pinkie Becomes A Temtem Tamer (Part 2): Journey to the first Dojo

Last time we saw Pinkie Paradise pick up her first Temtem and venture out in the big world. She caught a few new friends and went to study at a town with a weird squigly in the name. As she had  and still has no idea how to make a squiggly c , we shall just name this town Brical de Mar… just imagine the squiggly. In the first leg of the journey we just made it there so let’s see what adventures await her in this episode…

Taking on sidequests

I made plenty of progress with my Temtem and  was already getting to know the battle system when suddenly a few question marks showed up on my map. Temtem unlike it’s big inspiration has an active main quest and plenty of side quests.  Yet first we had to meet the professor. This time he was accompanied by Sophia. She was beautiful, her skin coloured like chocolate milk…. well more like a gentle serving of nesquik in a glass. Her hair long and waving starting as a sort of fading anthracite colour…like garden furniture that has been left in the sun for to long flowing over into a deep cyan.. with the intensity of printing press ink that had just exploded in her hair.

Her clothes looked like a lovely breezy jacket that looks really hard to put on.. because this bra-like mini top is part of it’s design so I guess you pull it over your head like a shirt.. but the shape doesn’t  really cooperate. She must spend a lot of time getting ready. She wears one of those aladdin belts.. you know what I mean those cloth band belt things that are very shiny and smooth. She also wears some across her arms so she accessories very well. She tells me I can visit her in Arissola, temtem tamers take on dojo’s to proof their worth and get rewards from it to further their journey! She also tells me I should study at the school first…. *la sigh*

(Why does the principal have a Schoolboard in her office with a drawing like that? .. She is up to something!)

So it’s back to school with me, but what is this.. a guy lost the key to his locker… well gotta help him find his key first! The poor thing! So even though the school bell just rang I do the noble thing and start to help him first. Through a few quick dialogues with people I find out he dropped the key at the Temporium… that’s like a pokecenter…but…there is no nurse just a heal computer where you can do it yourself…. that’s about all the differences.

I bring the key back and get some junk items.  Higher up in the school I found the head mistress, who thinks two boys are skipping school. She asks me if I can go find them… so I head out and find those students. It quickly turns out I need a surfboard to find them which I can find out in the next town…so I decide to skip school. to get a surfboard to find these boys . It’s amazing how real this game feels!

Temtem Up

Having left the town, heading north I quickly got into some more interesting Tem-battles then before. I noticed that even if my temtem had quite a few levels on my opponent I simply was unable to oneshot them. Even killing them in two hits proved a challenge with my starter moves. The two versus two battle system of temtem doesn’t make this any easier. I am completely unable to avoid all damage on my temtem.

My super effective moves are not able to oneshot and because I have a fairly diverse party so it’s not that uncommon that something I have gets hit super effective as well. Three battles down the road my Temtem are not looking healthy. So I head back to the Temporium to heal them up and walk over to the guy who has a store in the place of healing to buy some balm’s to heal my temtem and some antidotes and stuff. After getting to the store.. I decide not to buy any at all and just get some temcards.  Those items are EXPENSIVE! Besides I already beat six trainers ( you fight them in pairs) how long can the road to the next town really be?!

(La Sigh I never get notifications)

Temtem is a lot more difficult than pokémon. While battles themselves aren’t THAT challenging, being a Temtem trainer is. You want to level up your tems so want to make sure everyone gets a turn.. but that means taking hits. You’ll want a team as full as possible because even a few levels ahead killing temtem in one hit rarely happens or you’ll run out of stamina before you can do that to all. Temtem is very much about managing your team. Limiting the damage you get and maximising your experience gains wherever possible.

Running away from random  battles I also found a bit harder than in Pokémon. Normally you will lead with the two temtem you want to level the most. Those can’t run as easily.. and failing means two free hits from your opponent. So I figured I best just soldier it out, fight my heart out run back to the temporium and little by little make progress. Of course I could just ask a friend to travel with me… but I don’t have any friends yet! While it does sound really grindy.. and in a way it also is.. I really like the challenge. It gives you a chance to experiment with several Temtem and since this is an MMO you could have expected some grinding.

Showing my Sass

I catch a Ganki , a air and electric type Tem to help me deal with all the air type temtem I find on this route! Plus the first Dojo is claimed to use air and water temtem so I need an ace! I realise however that Ganki by now is almost 16 levels behind so  I do need to grind a bit. I head back to the squiggly c town and head back to the school. Maybe I missed something. One teacher asks my name and I tell him “My Name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die” . He looks at me like I am an idiot and continues to tell me stuff about Temtem.. like synergy attacks!

Some moves of temtem have a little plus icon at their name, if you put a temtem of the right element next to it, it will gain a boosted effect. For example if a Temtem of the same type is next some moves will raise in attack powers. If you put a toxic type next to the water type.. water moves might inflict poison. Such a nice idea and it makes having doubles of a type or certain team strategies compilations more interesting.
Soon after that I head back and Fight Sara and Lara twins who can;t figure out of them who is Sara and who is Lara… so I claim to be Sara instead.. which triggers the fight. I win so I guess I am Sara now! It’s hilarious to find all these dialogue options.

When facing a Temtem trainer you can steer talks the way you want them, either for a quick battle or to find some hidden dialogue. Some are amazingly geeky fun. Like that one where I mimic the princess diaries.. or later on where a guy keeps talking about a thing hidden under a truck on a deserted island. There is plenty of references to be found towards how much they are like Pokémon.  For example there is a temtem naimed Saipat in this game. It’s a duck.. who fights with sais.. A Sai Duck! Unlike Psyduck .. who much to the fans dismay never got the psychic typing that makes part of his name.. the Sai .. of Sai pat is taken into it’s typing. It’s a dual fighting and water type. That’s pretty cheeky humor by the monkey’s at Crema. To add insult to injury they also gave Saipat an ability that allows it to use toxic type moves as if it was it’s typing.

The main character can make fun of dialogue tropes and can even recognise the game is still in early access, stating that it is weird that so many buildings are closed. I encountered a guy who thought he was better than me because he was from the city and I got the option to respect him or make fun of him! Even after battle I got the option to kick him when he is down! That is great it makes battling so much more fun! However this one comes with a downside! Dialogue is missable! Where in pokémon you can loop a conversation endlessly, once you chosen to commit to a certain line of dialogue here that is it. After that they will only ask you to leave or stay for dinner, which you never get. So careful you might sass yourself away from a juicy piece of gossip or lore! Not that I care.. I never finished school anyway some ignorance is to be expected.

Shopping for clothes

After a fair while I finally made it to the town of Arissola , I am ready to fight that first Dojo now! My temtem are all about level 20 ish now.  Yet the Dojo Leader sophia seems to have vanished after visiting the wind fortress. Which lies past the gifted bridges a long route filled with Temtem trainers. “Ah I see, more training required huh” message received! My body is ready! So I start to prepare for my new leg of the journey. I pretend to be a tour guide, lying about my knowledge of the region.. luckily I loved dialogue so I actually KNOW what to pick! That’s kind of clever. I found these facts trough random dialogue and thinking logically about places I visited before.

People travel across this world like you do , to either see the sights or further their science. You can tell by their clothes or their temtem if people are from different areas which is kind of neat. There is a very vivid form of world building in these towns and the continents and trough side quests the game gently asks you to explore more.  Sometimes you’ll have to catch a very rare spawning temtem, or find a specific chain of npc’s sometimes on description only. It sounds very simple but Pokémon always kind of lacked this.. it’s just random people everywhere without a connection.. here we see pop idols.. and people worshipping her, a ferryman and it’s passengers, a perfume seller and her material suppliers. There is is a bigger connection random people know each other.. the world is more alive…… omg there is a clothing store in Arissola!

Temtem has a lot of customisation options, plenty towns hold clothing stores which all have very unique items based on the region and local styles. You can buy dye sets to recolour your clothes in the ways you want as well which is like a big heart eyes emoji from me! I love gear systems like these and since your temtem trainer only wears vanity gear you can do what you want without jumping through numerous hoops. Heart Eyes Emoji Heart Eyes Emoji Heart Eyes Emoji! However the gear is incredibly expensive and I have not found a way to find easy money yet! If you know good ways to make money in Temtem let me know!

(these thinks combined will form my dream outfit)

Because shopping always makes me a happy Pinkie! While I did not make a lot of progress with Temtem in this leg of the journey I again really like that I can take it slow, there is some stuff to explore, there is a lot of fun stuff to try and there is plenty temtem to catch. Temtem do not level up a a certain level but after gaining certain levels so I have to spend a lot of time with all of them. With my eyes on the first dojo and my goal and the wind fortress I know my journey is only just beginning and I am sure it will only get better.

Making the Internet a Happier Place : The Super Happy Love Award

Each week on the Internet it’s something people are chasing with torches and pitchforks. Whether it is burning someone’s career for a horrible tweet of 10 years ago, or trying to ruin a game company for making the first actually bad game in their career. Nowadays we even want to corporately murder companies for not producing AS good of an anime or AS good of a game as their prequel ones.  In fact if they are not better and improved in EVERY single way and if it does not have EVERY similar feature the BEST of their genre have to offer, it means they are 0/10. If you like something that isn’t perfect you are an idiot as well. Well I say enough! I do not want to live in such a world and I am fighting back! For every skull shaped cloud of hate they will release, I will release a muffin topped with a cotton candy cloud with shimmer sprinkles of love! And I need your help! Enter The Super Happy Love Award

It’s time to heal the internet, for to long has our safe space been a feeding ground teaching us to be as negative as possible. With this blog tag we start making a vaccine! We show that passion can be genuine! We give love to those who deserve it and praise the ones that have done something important for us.  The ones we love , even when fictional, are oftenly only human after all. With this blog tag I want to spread love for all the fandoms and united fans in positivity again! No longer will we shake our heads and say “this isn’t the <insert fandom> that we used to know.. they destroyed our beloved. NO! We stand together and join forces and turn this into “Remember the time that <insert fandom> did this amazing thing! I LOVE IT!. How will we do it? With this blog tag? How does it work? Well here are the rules.

Tell us something about a character that you love. Do you have a Waifu, a Husbando, maybe a mentor or someone who taught you a valuable lesson. Tell us why you love them.
    – Tell us something about a piece of music that you love. Does a anime intro mean a lot to you? Did you have a special memory to a pop song, like your first dance at your wedding? Maybe a piece of video game music? If you love it, you should tell us why!

  5. Tag 6 bloggers you love so they can take on this challenge as well.
  6. Everyone who comments something lovely about your post ALSO gets nominated. (Should they so choose)

Why does the number six appear so often? It’s the number of Venus, goddess of love.  So please try to respect the number of nominees if at all possible. Since I created this tag I shall answer all questions.

Tell us something about a person you love

There are so many people I love, but I guess this spot has got to go to my best friend. Let’s call her Bean. She will get why and she is a small sprout!  Bean and I have only met a little over two years ago but in this time she became incredibly important to me. I had a rough time when I met Bean. Struggling with my identity and my friends where moving away. She is a person I could very deeply connect with. While I have plenty of friends I can talk deeply with I have had little geek friends who could associate with my mindset. If I felt sad it was either.. let’s go to a big party a drink the pain away or let’s go to the sauna to relax. Bean and me go hunting pokemon together, we have a quick lunch and gossip, we watch pokémon movies together or a hilariously bad horror movie. With Bean I never have to pretend to be someone else or more mature, with Bean I can make jokes without having the fear that she would not understand.

Before the age of Bean I went out drinking with normie friends and a female friend got a major burn on a friend. I shouted..ooooh you don’t need a burn heal you need a full restore. I found that so funny myself that I nearly peed myself. My friends however almost hurt themself in confusion. Bean is different though! Bean gets me, she would laugh at this stupid joke.. probably even harder than me as she adores little memes and has this delightfully silly sense of humor.  With Bean I can weeb out and yell Nani and Kawaii! She understands what those means and is more inclined to buy me the thing as a gift! If I yell Kawaii around my normal friends they think I bit my tongue! Bean also treats me to lunch a lot and I am very grateful for those! She is an amazing friend I can really connect with like no other!

Write something about a franchise you love

I doubt this will come as a surprise but I love Pokémon! I love everything about it.  Ever since those magical first steps on 6 december 1999 the games have never let me go.  Even before that the anime warmed my heart. I cried the entire day at the Bye Bye Butterfree episode and when it looked like Ash was giving up Pikachu I cried again. I was so proud when I beat the pokemon league in my first game , and I showed everyone my amazing Parasect and was amazed finding out they had a Golem. I have traveled across the lands searching far and wide and I thank game freak for everything they have done for me. Without them I would not have been the same.. or as strong of a person.

Pokémon made me more sociable, it showed me the power of a fanbase and how despite our differences we can be united through love. I swooned over a sylveon plush with people I do not know and we both ended up encouraging getting one. I met new people,  who accepted me, I played adventures I never thought I would. I was introduced to my love for trading card games trough this and I had my first mini LARP. On top of bucket list is visiting the pokémon café in Tokyo and have a Mew Fluffy Marshmallow Drink , as well as spending a lot of my money there on cute plates and adorable dishes. Maybe I will never have the money but at least it gave me a dream. Something to chase after. The franchise is the reason that I am part of this wonderful online community that is called WordPress! And now I can fight to make the internet a more happy place! With my pokémon buddies by my side!

Tell us something about a character that you love

There are plenty of characters I loved and I already talked about a fair amount of them. Since I do want to offer something new it’s time to talk about another fictional character that I absolutely adore. That character might seem like a very weird one to adore so much but she deserves every bit of my love and more. That character first appeared in the Lego Movie as part of Emmett’s crew and the oddball  Leader of cloud Cuckoo Land her unique and pink design immediately inspired me. She fights for positivity and smiles and does so in her completely unique way. Throughout the entire movie she has the most cartoony depiction, changing colours and even shapes based on her emotions and thusly appears to be very open. Her fight for positivity make her a perfect character as the one to be loved in this first Super Happy Love Award post.

Unikitty also has her own cartoon show simply named Unikitty in which we get more of the lovable cat unicorn to love.  We see a character that has her cheeks change based on what emotion she feels, never really hiding what you feel. We see a character that serves as an inspiration for anyone who isn’t standard. It is okay to be you, no matter what you are, no matter how different you are. We see other characters attempt this but none are as surreal as Unikitty. She loves parties, sparkly things, positivity , cute things and cheering people up. She dislikes her arch nemesis Master Frown, unfriendly individuals, negativity and candy corn! So .. while I have difficulty relating to most human characters I have no issue relating to this rainbow, colour changing unicorn cat thing made out of legos… I love it!

Tell us something about a piece of music you love

Now I could talk about Ducktales the moon theme again but I will not. I will talk about another piece of game music.  I am going to talk about A Hat in Time : New Adventure. This song came to me in a time I was suffering some gaming fatigue. Yet within minutes after playing Hat in Time, I felt that old magic I should feel as a gamer again. New Adventure to me signifies that feeling. So to me it’s a song about the magic of gaming. About finding your inner child and playing. We become Hat Kid.. a platform hero who also likes  to play around and have fun. This song is all about having fun.

The theme is also remixed into other tracks of the game, like You Are All Bad Guys phase 3, in a way it is hat kid’s theme without being named as such. It’s a song about the innocence and loving fun. For that reason I used this as the theme also as the personal theme for my Eldritch OC Luma. In a contemporary fantasy campaign my group has to raise an Eldritch Baby and keep her safe from the evil forces of R’lyeh since she is the only one who can destroy the breaches between Earth and the realm of chaos beyond time and space. I made new friends with this campaign and love writing it and hosting sessions every day. It is so much fun and I love role playing the character of Luma. Each time I get to play her theme a smile appears on my face and the worries of the day wash away.

Show us why you you love  a piece of media so much.

I could cheap out and write something about my favorite pokémon game but honestly I love so much of them I would not know where to start. Like I already told you I would one day love to own an original NES with a copy of Ducktales.. or even have a ducktales cartridge made as an art piece on my wall. Another game I have strong memories about like that is the Nintendo 64 version of smash.  I used to play this one with my little sister in a fairly unconventional way. We would play mostly with Kirby and and Pikachu.. her being Pikachu and me being the pink blob that Sakurai blessed us with. We would play tiny sketches. For example.. Pikachu is traveling to his vacation by Great Fox on the Sector Z stage. Kirby tries to engage in conversation and make a friend while Pikachu wants to be left alone. They end up fighting , Kirby still thinking this is play.

Each time we would play a new sort of sketch and come up with a new tiny adventure. Everytime we would get out of school we would start of with this like a little ritual. After that homework and if we finished it we would meet again in front of the tv. If we finished homework early we would play a few more matches before our shows would start. One of my favorite sketches we did was Mario and Luigi having a Moustache contest. Where they argue who had the more beautiful moustache. Loser had to shave of their moustache. It was all so silly but it was one of the closest memories I have with my sister. It was one of few things that fully could bring us together and often mom would come watch and bring us some crips, a nice little family moment all made possible through a video game.

Write something about yourself that you love

So this  is the hardest part to talk about but here we go. I love the little child in myself. For a thirty three year old I might not be the maturest woman of my age. I still love unicorns, I talk to imaginary creatures and I often pretend to be a princess. and I sometimes play with plushies for a bit. Last night I failed a picture Captcha because I had to select two specific pictures and I felt bad for the other picture that looked cuter so I clicked it as well. It deserved a click. If someone talks about harming a imaginary creature or talks bad about a cutie I still feel for it because maybe in some alternate reality those things can still hear us. Maybe we have not discovered yet that there are other forms of intelligence that we just not comprehend. So I even try to treat my plushies nice.. just in case.

Of course I can face reality and lose that magic to appear more as a coherent person. I could look at a game that I dislike and think it’s just a stupid piece of plastic. Yet  in my world maybe to some extend it has some feelings. Maybe a developer who worked really hard just wished with all their might that someone would love that thing they made and that by saying kind words I could make them a little bit happier as well. I mean I will always be honest, if you ask me for my opinion you will get MY opinion.. and not a lie fabricated to please you, but I also think there is no need to be unnecessarily harsh to things… because you never know! Maybe sometime it will come alive! Maybe to a certain extend  our mind set can influence the world if we are more positive. Maybe I am naive for liking something even if it’s not the best thing ever and that I just enjoy playing with it. Yet it is a thing that also allows me to love live and appreciate little things. By thinking just a bit like a kid, we can add some shine to things they do deserve but from adults rarely get.

Six Bloggers I love

Now it is time for the nominees. Here nominated six bloggers we love or we love to take on this challenge.  Some kind words for those bloggers are in order I think.

A girl and her anime:

She nominated me for my first blog tag, so I figured it would be fitting to nominate her for my first blog tag.

Fred from A Natural:

Someone who made me more positive about myself and helped me find more love for myself. I think he deserves to spread the love around.

Irina from Drunken Anime Blog

Was there ever any doubt? I know she is really busy and doesn’t have a lot of spare time, but I feel that this blog tag is right up her alley!

Foovay’s Cauldron

Foovay has expressed very positive reactions to my aspirations to make this blog tag a thing so I really feel she deserves a nomination.

Megan a Geeky Gal

I tag Megan a lot but that is because I really love her writing style, I have seen her take on many blog tags across the web. Might as well make her set complete with this new one!

K at the movies

Finally I nominated Kat from K at the movies. It is said that K can defeat me in combat but as the ancient old phrase goes. Make love .. not war!  This blog tag gets K a chance to live by that motto.

And remember, if you are not tagged but you love my blog and leave a nice comment you ARE nominated! It’s in the rules!

Top 5: Pokémon Battle Themes

Being short on time and ill prepared, I would not want to leave you island guests without content. So let’s have fun with something nice and easy that is close to my heart. Pokémon stuff! I saw a bad horror movie yesterday as well, but since I want to blog about love now, rather than burning a movie to the ground I rather praise the franchise I so adore. Since I do not have a lot of time to photoshop I protected me from myself and picked a blogging topic that did not need images. MUSICA! So here are my five favorite battle themes from the games and series.

Battle Theme Number 5 : Blue’s Champion Theme (Pokémon Origins Version)

Now I could easily place this one right on top of my list for nostalgia reasons and use the original version but that would be a bit lame. While the original rendition is in my eyes till the best game rendition this anime version is truly the perfect symbolism to how it matured over time.  Those beginning notes almost sound like an alarm going off, warning you that you are about to battle the toughest battle of your life. As a child this was…sorta true. Blue was a tough battle but I never found him that threatening.

Something in the way he is build up. You beat him over and over again so if you fight him at the end, he doesn’t really feel like a champion. If we compare that to for example a Cynthia or Leon who have been build up as super strong trainers, this fight does not feel THAT special to me.  Had we not just encountered Blue outside victory road earlier I might feel differently, but all I could think was.. he could not have gotten THAT much stronger could he? When you battle Red at the end of Gold and Silver (and their remakes) he feels a lot more menacing. Blue’s theme was also used as the champion theme for Trace.. who even feels weaker so I just never felt situations where this dire when hearing this theme. Still it’s one of the very best.

Battle Theme Number 4: Zinnias’ Battle Theme (Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire)

One of my favorite pokémon titles of all time was Pokémon Omega Ruby, while other fans criticize it for being to samesies.. I was not allowed to get the original pokemon ruby and sapphire by my dad. He said Pokémon was for kids and I had outgrown it.. so I could only play that one as a illegal rom, and only if he was not watching. So in a way I never was at ease when playing the game. When I finally got to play it in peace and legal I felt so much more at ease.  The mysterious character Zinnia, that is new to these remakes had fascinated me from our first encounter. She strongly reminded me of a real life girl I was having strong feelings for. I had not been open and out as being into girls for to long, (after realising it took me a few years to dare to flirt or show interest in girls in fear of pushing them away and due to this fear I just ended up not realy feeling in love)

Zinnia is a young woman who lost her child Aster due to unknown reasons.  Being part of a dragon clan she travels the lands to try and prevent the world to end. Yet she goes about it in some dubious ways at times.  She is constantly followed by a helpless whismur that she called Aster, which you trough research can find out is the name of her lost infant. I respected the character and it was one of the first mature characters your character sort of gets a bond with.  Her theme has some darkness to it in it’s baseline while the main melody due to the accordion like themes sounds odd from which we can also read her scars. Zinnia got odd due to the pain of her loss, yet still is a brave fighter trying to do good. And this theme conveys that very well to me. Plus it’s the theme of the only pokémon character I ever crushed on.. so makes me look at it from rose tinted glasses. You could say that that is a bad thing but I would love to have pink glasses.

Battle Theme 3 : Ultra Necrozma Battle (Ultra Sun and Moon)

No matter how big of a Pokémon fan you are, no matter how much of a Negative Nancy or Positive Petra you are we can all agree one thing. Pokemon games are REALLY easy. We invent challenges for ourselves called Nuzlocke where a pokémon fainting equals it’s permadeath to make the dame more challenging. We hack the games to make them more challenging and even then we still manage to beat them. So imagine the surprise among the pokémon community when we first encountered this additional villian in Ultra Sun and Moon. When Necrozma absorbs Nebby (which is already pretty shocking)  we see the birth of one of the most.. and most likely even THE most challenging bossfight(s) in the entire series.

I saw so many Nuzlocke fail under the might of this extraordinary and creepy pokémon. A legendary that basicly mega evolves AND gets the totem boost is nothing to scoff at. It’s moveset has super effective counters for SO many pokémon. If he hits you super effectively, the pokémon is basically dead as if you do not power grind , knowing that it will come it will be of a lot higher level than you should be. Very few pokémon can resist it. It’s battle theme feels menacing and celestial, it feels like you are facing something bigger than that which you have ever faced and this in fact ..at least until you face Eternamax form Eternatus. I love the theme of the latter..but that one feels to much like a big hero’s reversal so there is not as much tension as in this doozy!

Battle theme 2: Gym Leader theme (Sword and Shield)

Now I am not one to say that new is always better and some 16 bit and 8 bit music is truly great Yet in Pokémon’s case I do feel that the classic themes are somewhat overplayed. We all know it and love it and that is great. Yet in recent times we have begun the cycle of nitpicks and are beginning to critique everything on nitpicks and instead of looking at why we love a franchise we look for reasons to drop it. Pokémon Sword and Shield does indeed have pokémon locked behind time gates (not behind paid dlc.. except for the new forms and new pokémon) sure, the game is shorter , but it made endgame more accessible than ever.I do not mind the people who give Game Freak honest feedback, I do mind the people trying to boycott the game for having a shorter campaign or for being so anti DLC they do not see it’s simply a product of the age we live in. I felt really sad that my beloved community had turned into Nat-Dexxers hating on the new game and SwooShers hating on Nat Dexxers. Can’t we just focus on what we like about pokémon and stay united. You do not have to buy a game you do not like nor do you have to dislike a game because others critique it.

I felt alone and I  was wondering if it became wrong to love pokémon still. I took my first steps in the world of Galar with some reluctance. Was it still okay to love pokémon?  This all changed as soon as I stepped into that first gym battle. I loved the cute gym puzzle, I loved how Galar made pokémon feel so much more real. Like an actual sport!  I loved the world building in Galar. That odd theme gave me an “as scene on tv” kind of feel. It was strange but good. Still okay just… until you knock out your opponents second to last pokémon. When we enter the final phase of the battle  the crowds in the stadiums begin to chant .. and it was amazing. For the first time it wasn’t just my character standing in that arena! I was there!
Then I saw youtubers really loving this song as well. Wherever I watched I saw them doing that same crowd as the chant.  Now when I ever doubt if it is wrong to love pokémon I hear all those youtubers and other video streams chant this song and I know that there is nothing wrong with me… and I want to battle some more! That is some powerful stuff!

Battle theme 1: Alolan Champion Theme (Pokémon Sun and Moon)

Pokémon Sun and Moon have some of my favorite music, my favorite city theme, my favorite pokémon professor theme, my favorite elite 4 theme and my favorite champion theme. That last one is so much greater than anything else. Not only does it walk a great balance of nostalgia as being its own track. It represents something that is unheard of and never been done in any pokémon game. When you face professor Kukui as your final challenge at the end of the elite four you would really think it is his theme. However is not. If you repeat this challenge, you can face various trainers and with all of them we see the same theme play out. Even if you fight Hau .. who has a very specific theme! How is this possible?  Then you realise it… as soon as you beat the Alola league the words that show us the truth appear on the screen “Congratulations, you are the first champion in the alola league’ This song is your theme.

Starting with the first notes, the first pokémon game began with, this song isn’t about your rivals determination.. or the high stakes in this match. It’s about your journey as a trainer.  Kicking of very tiny and swelling in intensity it has show how we have grown as trainers. With both intense and whimsical parts it encapsulates every aspect of being a trainer. Throughout the song we see a lot of classical elements of mostly pokémon main themes.
This is not just a song about your journey through Alola but your entire career as a pokémon trainer. In all the other regions there were champions before us and there will be after we have gone, but in Alola we became the first! We have become the very best.. like no one ever was.
